What can we as normal people do to solve these absurd rents?
From the perspective of a Floridian.
Housing in Florida in general is expensive but specifically south Florida has gotten out of control. It’s starting to get to California level of overpriced and greedy.
Ok I get it there’s a ton of people moving here and the state is growing which is generally a good thing. But if the lowest option for rent gets too much above the median income it will drive many people away from here. Nobody will be able to afford to be a service worker unless they live with their parents or jam packed into a bedroom with a bunch of other people.
We can fight politically. Would rent control be a decent option? I know here it’s been very controversial due to the landlord lobby. Increase wages? Organize a rent protest? Make it a big big issue come election time.
One of the biggest barriers to move in is the absurd up front costs now they require THREE months of rent upfront. It wasn’t like that before and it’s not like that anywhere else. Who has 10k to move in to an entry level rental? You’d have to save for a long time assuming you come out positive in cash at the end of each month making the median wage.
I saw a post on Miami where they talked about the fact that living here feels like you’re being mocked all the time for being poor. It’s all me me me. How can I show that I make money and all peasants below me could never. Wish there was more of a sense of community where people are down to meet, network, socialize, etc. But everyone just cares about posting their $50 brunch on Instagram to flex on the brokies.
How are abuelas and abuelos supposed to live here. People without the ability to move up in their careers. Soon a significant portion of those people are gonna have to go on section 8 to afford to stay here. And that’s taxpayer money going towards an issue caused by greed. I love this state I’ve been here my whole life and want to stay here but the future looks grim. We’re going to turn into California where people are renting RV’s parked on the street for $2000 a month unless we take action and demand a solution to this housing crisis.

But considering how well the Caverns went, I think it’s safe to speculate that residencies may become their thing in the US moving forward. submitted by saj08c to KGATLW [link] [comments] I thought it might be fun to begin highlighting some cool potential residency locations and maybe eventually even forward the favorites to the band. First up — the Spirit of Suwannee music park in Northern Florida… We’ve done rocks and caves, let’s add Swamps… About 4 hours driving from Atlanta, 1-1:30 from Jacksonville, and about 3 hours from Tampa or Orlando. So decent airport access. One of the more popular Southeast or East coast festival venues for sure. It has hosted many camping festivals over the last 20 years: Bearcreek, Aura, Wannee, and more recently Hulaween. It has a very large capacity, much more than a Gizz residency or fest would require. Excellent campgrounds that are mostly wooded, with lots of tree coverage which means hammocks everywhere (shade was non-existent at Caverns and most festivals in general). It also has nearby river access within walking distance from the campgrounds where you can swim and chill. The park features a nice swampy lake covered in cypress trees and lots of hanging Spanish moss which give it a unique feel. The park has an intimate amphitheater surrounded by trees and a larger open field for a main stage type set-up. I know it’s Florida, which can be a tough sell at the moment, but up north it’s regionally pretty similar to GA or TN. Overall a great camping situation and another unique location for spending a weekend. What do you all think? |

Alright. With all that is going on I've worked up the courage to be vulnerable to the scrutiny of the public finally. A few years ago on December 8th, 2021 at 5:54 P.M in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, my sis got a video of an odd shaped craft hovering in the sky. If its indeed a blimp, ill delete this post and run off with my tail between my legs. I wish I could zoom in somehow, because then its pretty evident the shape is not like any craft I've seen in my decades of life, but who knows what the military is up to nowadays. You all be the judge and let me know what you think. I apologize in advance if its a nothingburger. The only sighting of the craft is in like the first 20 seconds. I want to turn my house into the castle, but I think I'll hold off on doing that until the Plaza looks how I want it. So, in the meantime, the skin I have on my house is the Monsters Inc building that Mike and Sully live in! 😁😁🥰 Photos 7-14 is my relocation work. 😁 I moved Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, WALL-E, and WALL-E's garden to the Forest of Valor. My main issue right now is sourcing good wood. Does anyone have recommendations for cabinet grade wood in central Florida? I am in Oviedo, FL. Ik Home Depot and Lowe’s are usually a big no no for good wood and that is what I’ve seen. All of their “cabinet grade” wood is already warped or delaminated.

Generally speaking, the freediving scene is extremely inclusive. However, freedivers have to place a lot of trust in their dive buddies, which can make the community seem exclusive, particularly if you’re a new diver. Spearos are a step above this: Not only do they put trust in you to saftey them well, but they also don’t want their hard earned fishing spots to become public knowledge.
If you’re looking for buddies, a good place to start is with a freediving course. This course will teach you to not only dive bettesafer, but it will also make it that much easier for local divers to trust you as a saftey.
Once you’re certified, most coastal areas have freedive groups and clubs. And many instructors have groups of their own so that their students can connect with each other. These groups are a great way to get plugged in with local divers, as well as a way to join group charters/trips.
Do not underestimate these group trips. Not only are they often a great way to train alongside phenomenal local divers, but they are also a great way to find dive buddies, establish yourself as a good dive buddy, and ultimately get out in the water on more private trips. Plus, lots of spearos practice line diving. So you can still meet them, and the more comfortable you are on the line, the easier spearing becomes.

WASHINGTON, June 8 (Reuters) - China has reached a secret deal with Cuba to establish an electronic eavesdropping facility on the island roughly 100 miles (160 km) from Florida, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing U.S. officials familiar with classified intelligence.
Such a spy installation would allow Beijing to gather electronic communications from the southeastern U.S., which houses many U.S. military bases, as well as monitor ship traffic, the newspaper reported.
The U.S. Central Command headquarters is based in Tampa. Fort Liberty, formerly Fort Bragg, the largest U.S. military base, is based in North Carolina.
The countries have reached an agreement in principle, the officials said, with China to pay Cuba "several billion dollars" to allow the eavesdropping station, according to the Journal.
“I cannot speak to this specific report, but we are well aware of – and have spoken many times to – the People’s Republic of China’s efforts to invest in infrastructure around the world that may have military purposes, including in this hemisphere," John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, said in a statement.
"We monitor it closely, take steps to counter it, and remain confident that we are able to meet all our security commitments at home, in the region, and around the world," he said.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Washington said: "We are not aware of the case and as a result we can't give a comment right now."
The Cuban government did not respond to a request for comment. But veteran Cuban diplomat Jose Cabanas, former ambassador to the U.S., wrote in a tweet that Washington was “trying to demonize Cuba again." He did not elaborate.
The agreement between the two U.S. rivals, both ruled by communist governments, has caused alarm in President Joe Biden's administration, the newspaper said, posing a new threat close to America's shores. The Journal said U.S. officials declined to provide more details about the proposed location of the listening station or whether construction had begun. I
The reported deal comes as Washington and Beijing are taking tentative steps to soothe tensions that spiked after a suspected Chinese high-altitude spy balloon crossed the United States before the U.S. military shot it down off the East Coast in February.
It could also raise questions about a trip to China that U.S. officials say Secretary of State Antony Blinken is planning in coming weeks. Washington's top diplomat had earlier scrapped the visit over the spy balloon incident.
Ties have deteriorated over disputes ranging from military activity in the South China Sea and near Taiwan, Beijing's human rights record, and technology competition.

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez, Democratic chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a Cuba hawk, said if the report is true, it would be “a direct assault upon the United States.”
“So I hope the administration will think about how they'll react, if it’s true," he told reporters.
A former U.S. intelligence official said on condition of anonymity that a Chinese listening post would be a “big deal,” marking an expansion of Beijing's spying capabilities and giving it access to signals intelligence as far north as Washington.
If such a facility is built, the Chinese will use Cuba "as a beachhead for collection against the United States," said
Daniel Hoffman, a former senior CIA undercover officer.
However, the U.S. has a long history of spying on China in its own neighborhood. It is widely reported to have used Taiwan as a listening post for the mainland and regularly flies spy planes in the South China Sea, angering Beijing.
The head of Taiwan’s National Security Bureau told the island’s parliament in April that Taiwan was conducting real-time encrypted intelligence sharing with Five Eyes partners, which includes the U.S.
A cash infusion would likely be welcomed in Cuba, where the economy is sputtering and inflation, fuel shortages, plunging farm production and a cash crunch continue to fan discontent.
Relations between Washington and Havana remain strained. The Biden administration last year partially rolled back some Trump-era restrictions on remittances and travel to the island, but Cuban officials called the steps insufficient.
The intelligence on the agreement was gathered in recent weeks and was convincing, the Journal reported. The officials said it would allow China to conduct signals intelligence, including emails, phone calls and satellite transmission.
Cuba, an old Cold War foe of the United States, has long been a hotbed of espionage and spy games.
The Cuban missile crisis in 1962 began after Moscow began placing Soviet nuclear weapons on the island. It backed down and removed the missiles, but it is widely regarded as the moment when the United States and the Soviet Union came closest to a nuclear confrontation.

i've never towed anything on my ford 4.2 V6 Automatic f-150 which has a towing capacity of 5200 lb nor do i have any experience in towing anything.
would 3000lb be a good ratio of weight to towing capacity or is it on the heavier side than recommended in relation to the towing capacity? i am looking at the smaller travel trailers, like a coleman 17 foot trailer, the lighest version ways 3000 lb dry weight.
I will stay in an rv park for like a month, then i might drive 4 or 5 hour to a different campsite and stay there for 2 weeks. So i'll be driving the trailer once every 2 weeks to a month, and drive maybe 1-4 hours between sites. Only in the very beginning and the end of a like 5 month trip will i drive like 10 hours, but this will be broken up in smaller drives. So definately won't be driving every day with the trailer, the trailer will be parked in campground for at least 2 weeks to a month or even longer.

Mr. NCAA see the entire group and is amazed with at least two of them being here - The Duck and Eli.

Mr. NCAA: Finally, we come to you two - Seymour and Smokey. Since you were both #2 seeds in your regional, we're going to have a coin flip. Seymour, since you have the better record, you get the choice - heads or tails?
Seymour: Heads.
Mr. NCAA flips the coin and it lands on heads
Mr. NCAA: Heads it is. Smokey, you're off to Hattiesburg.
Smokey: Oh, poo. I can't win on the road this season... let's hope that doesn't come back to haunt me.
Seymour: Sweet! I get to host something... should of hosted last weekend, if you ask me.
Mr. NCAA: Okay, that takes care of everything. Enjoy yourselves this weekend and I'll see the eight winners in Omaha next weekend. Clarice, hold all my calls... As the last two leave, Mr. NCAA finally lights up the cigar he's been holding on to.

The scene: NCAA Headquarters in Kansas City. Mr. NCAA is in his office and about ready to light up a cigar when the alarm on his phone goes off. It's for the Super Regional selections he must make today
Mr. NCAA: Clarice, can you bring in the sixteen winners to the office?
Clarice, the receptionist, sees that all sixteen characters are here. These are the mascots that represent the sixteen Regional winners from last weekend. You have a few human like mascots, like the Duke Blue Devil, the Wake Forest Demon Deacon and the Virginia Cavalier; and you have some animal mascots as well, like Big Al for Alabama, Sycamore Sam for Indiana State, SuperFrog for TCU and Bevo for Texas. Everyone then comes into the office. It's a nice office with a view of Kansas City from the top floor. Mr. NCAA see the entire group and is amazed with at least two of them being here - The Duck and Eli.
Mr. NCAA: Congrats to all sixteen of you who made this far in the Baseball Tournament. I see some old faces and some nice new ones here. Welcome to the party, Indiana State.
Sycamore Sam: Thanks, Mr. NCAA sir. The honor is mine.
Mr. NCAA: Don't worry about it. Anyway, it's time to unveil who will host the Super Regional Round this weekend. You know the rules: If it's seeded vs. seeded, the higher seed hosts; If it's seeded vs. unseeded, the seeded team hosts; If it's both unseeded teams, then the regional seeds decides who hosts. Got it? Good. Let's begin with the Friday games - First off is Duke and Virginia. Blue Devil, you're heading to Charlottesville.
Blue Devil: Sweet! I gave that clown of a Cavalier two of his four losses at his home field earlier this year.
Cavalier: Fluke wins, Dookie. You aren't getting that lucky this time.
Mr. NCAA: Ah, conference rivals. Brings joy to this old and withered heart of mine. Speaking of conference rivals... Cocky, you're heading to Gainesville.
Cocky: Uh... sure... He spots Albert, sitting in one of the chairs in the office, eating a Chic-Fil-A chicken sandwich with a sign next to it that reads "this is your fate, chicken!" All Cocky can do is a loud gulp as he now visibly shaken
Mr. NCAA: I wonder if that bird brain knows that he defeated Florida this season already... meh. Next up, SuperFrog, you're off to Terre Haute.
Sycamore Sam: Hold on, boss man. Can I request that SuperFrog host the Supers this weekend instead of me? I have the Special Olympics coming in and after hosting both the Missouri Valley Conference tournament and the Regional last weekend, there isn't enough manpower or hotel rooms left for me to host. What do you say, boss? We got a deal?
SuperFrog: I'll be a good host and all... oh, and can I barrow a pen from you, Mr. NCAA sir?
Mr. NCAA: Sure.
SuperFrog gets the pens and opens up his checkbook, which he carries around with him (He's old school in that way).
SuperFrog: writes the check for $250,000 Who do I make this out to, Sam?
Sycamore Sam: Indiana Special Olympics.
SuperFrog: Here you go, champ. A $250,000 check for the Special Olympics. It's the least I can do to help out a fellow school.
Sycamore Sam: in shock Wow... that's nice of you, man. Thanks.
Mr. NCAA: Okay, Sam, you're heading to Fort Worth this weekend. That leaves our final Friday game - Eli, you're going to Eugene. Oregon was the #2 seed in Nashville while you were the #4 seed in Stillwater, which means Oregon hosts.
Eli: I'm just thankful for the chance to compete in this part of the tournament. Let's have some good games, Duck.
The Duck: You too, Eli.
Mr. NCAA: That takes care of the Friday games. Now, for the Saturday games - Big Al, you're going to Winston-Salem.
Big Al: Top seed?
Mr. NCAA: Top seed.
Big Al: Best pitchers?
Mr. NCAA: Best staff in the nation.
Big Al: Bring it on.
Mr. NCAA: Well then... Bevo, you're off to Stanford.
Bevo: Okay, I do like my chances there.
The Tree, who is standing off to the side in the office, holds a sign that reads "Good luck, bovine. You'll need it..."
