So I ended my friendship with someone yesterday who I’ve been friends with for 5 years. We’ve had a good run, but she’s married now and I live 800 miles away. She never makes plans to see me but has seen her friend states away. This community and reddit as a whole, has had to endure poor admin and site ownership decisions more than once, and will again be negatively affected by Reddit's recent announcement about changes to their API policy. I'm sure you've seen many other communities participating in the upcoming blackout, and we will as well...

What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users.
On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader.
Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface .
This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love.
The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?
1. Complain. Message the mods of /reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
2. Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /ModCoord - but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
3. Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
4. Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible. This includes not harassing moderators of subreddits who have chosen not to take part: no one likes a missionary, a used-car salesman, or a flame warrior.

I have sonos arc, sub mini, a pair of era 100 speakers in living room connected to LG OLED B2 using hdmi arc. When i turn tv on it brings up the soundbar and sub mini..... I have to enable the era 100's through phone app. I can control the volume of all sonos devices with app. My tv remote only controls volume of arc sound bar. So when im watching YouTube for instance im constantly adjusting volumes either through app or tv remote which only adjusts the arc sound bar with different videos.
At first i didn't mind all of this adjusting because it was all new. but now, its getting old..... I really dont want to deep dive into settings because im not sure what i should be expecting. Should or can my tv remote control all volumes at once? Do i always have to enable the era 100's through the app?

Hey there, fellow code wranglers. I'm a data scientist currently wading through the depths of machine learning and AI. I’m having real issues with fine-tuning of pre-trained models.
I often have to use a lot of pre-trained models, to save on effort and time, but I’m really getting boned by the fine-tuning of these models for specific applications.
Firstly, setting up the infrastructure to handle the fine-tuning process is a task in itself. Then, the process can be pretty resource-intensive. Not just in terms of computational power, but also the time and mental effort I have to pour into optimizing these models.
The part that has me pulling my hair out the most is the sheer complexity of the process. I have to make them work, and I have to make them work well. This means finding the right balance between model performance and resource optimization, which often feels like finding a needle in a haystack.

I've seen so many people in this sub complaining about how the CGI looks in The Flash. It's okay to point out whether it looks unfinished or not, but I do take issue with people saying it looks "lazily rendered".
Regardless of the variety in quality...

CGI IS NOT LAZY! THERE'S AN INSANE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT GOES BEHIND IT AND GETS UNNOTICED.

To the people that are constantly comparing The Flash to Man of steel, take into consideration the context of their productions. Back in 2013, there was only one DC film and that film didn't go through major changes during filming and post-production (thank you Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Chris Nolan). Ten years later and we've had for the most part 2 films per year. The Flash has apparently been through *A TON* of changes during its production, much like Green Lantern. Meaning that VFX artists have to abandon shots and scenes they had been working on for weeks to work on new ones.
Another major factor is that with the rise of streaming platforms, a lot more projects get green-lit. A good example is how Disney used to have their projects scheduled much more separately. But even since the launch of Disney+, there have a lot more projects with all the different franchises they distribute. We have a Star Wars show, Marvel films and series, live-action remakes every single year.
Another thing is that several major VFX studios have been sadly closed and many smaller ones are starting out. And it seems like a good number of VFX artists prefer working at smaller studios because they don't feel overworked with really tight schedules and indecisive clients.
I miss the times when people would just view special effects as a tool to tell a story.

• In what is considered considered to be one of the best action sequences ever made, the train fight from Spider-Man 2 has some of the most jarring digital shots that look much less convincing than some from its predecessor. But people don't really care because of how creative the overall choreography is.
• People watch King Kong (1933) and they know that what they're looking at is a 20+ inch articulated puppet. But they don't care because they're more invested in the way the character acts, to the point that many cry when said puppet falls from the Empire State Building model.
• A more recent example is Aquaman. That movie's CGI wasn't particularly realistic with its physics and didn't look 100% finished at times. And some people had pointed this out in their reviews. But the reason the visuals were still praised is because of how they were used, as well as its vibrant colors and its gigantic scale. Which is why there was this big debate among audiences on whether or not the movie should've been nominated for best SFX.

I'm not saying that movies or artists are immune to criticism. I wish people weren't so dismissive of how hard the craft of animation and CGI is, as if it was so easy to produce.

Here's my situation. I'm in my mid 40's and I've been in the corporate world nearly my entire career. I've done well, nearly paid off my house, banked over 300k in 401k, sitting on about 200k in other assets and am considering a career change. Why? I'm absolutely burnt out. What I’m doing as of now:
- Reddit: eliminate subreddits that underperform. Sure. Pause underperforming assets/copy/CTA. Tweak targeted CPC.
- Facebook: pause underperforming audiences. Pause underperforming copy/CTA.
- Youtube: pause underperforming audiences. Tweak target-KPI. Put thousands of questionable channels on the placement-exclusion list.
I can’t do anything about assets, or the landigpage, the person in charge of them won’t let me, so that’s not an option. Excluding certain hours is seen as useless, and excluding devices (desktop vs. cellphone) is also outside of my power.
There must be more to do. I’d be very grateful if somebody could send me the right direction.

Had an interview for Starbucks yesterday and I just realized the person who interviewed me never mentioned pay or anything like that. Don’t they usually mention pay if they truly are considering hiring you? Or even hire you on the spot after the interview? Does the lack of mention about pay for the role mean I most likely won’t be getting hired? Or does Starbucks sometimes call you in for a second interview? I'm 31 and I need advice on where to get clothes as a 30+ year old. I work in production at a factory, so I'm not getting real dressed up everyday. Ive (Im a convinced Atheist) been just asking theists questions recently. Not because im doubting but im curious in a not shaming or judging way. I'm still pissed at my parents for not letting me do social things/go to social events when I was a teen and in my 20's. As a teen -if was half and half sometimes mom was reasonable and let me go to one friends home-and let me spend the night but other times my other friends never allowed. I was alot at collections job I HATED, I was looking for another jobs in the meantime, told her I wanted to quit. But forced me to stay at least another year. This resulted in me getting fired for going off at a customer one day and I ended up hiding the truth from them. They found out after 2 months-I was punished, I was 25 years old. It wouldn't have happened if I could have quit when I wanted to. Went out with friends from work, didn't call her back or pick up the phone-she went ballistic and accused me of being a prostitute. When I told her I wanted to hang out with a guy from high school-she got all pissed and told me why, what could I possibly have in common with him. Since I moved out at 30 -I've hooked up with 15 guys, went out to bars/clubs stayed out until 3am, has no clue about it. Everytime I dress sexy or even wearing g strings it makes me feel like a whore. Even though I don't live with them anymore-she still calls to check up on me-sometimes its hard b/c I could be hanging out with someone, and if I dont pick up she might drive by my place to see if my car is parked there or even knock on my door. I want to go on a vacation but will never tell them because she will likely yell at me for taking PTO time and not having a hard work ethnic. Also, everything still people tell me I'm too quiet and don't talk alot. Gee, maybe if they let me have social skills I could have been outgoing. Now at 41, she is telling me to "find a male friend" and why haven't I found one yet. I'm like wtf? Oh now she tells me I can be around guys? If I tell her I went out with a guy she won't approve of it.
Sad, but I can't wait till they are no longer living.
