I visited the Corning Museum of Glass, part of the world renowned Corning, Inc. glass works in Corning, New York, USA many times as a child, between 1986 and 1996. The Hall of Science had an enormous screen filling an entire wall, with a high-fidelity audio system, that repeatedly played a 15min long informational film for tourists about the emerging science of fiber optics (engineered and manufactured by Corning, naturally). The title screen used the theme music from Star Trek: The Next Generation by Jerry Goldsmith. I used to wonder if Corning, Inc. paid for the royalties to this song, and still wonder if copyright issues related to this song have something to do with why this film has never been commercially released, à la MTV's The State. The film started with a scientist explaining the basics of light and optics in layman's terms. I distinctly remember him saying, "You need light to see me." It cuts to a shot of this same scientist outdoors using a hand operated signal lamp to send a Morse Code message to another operator far away.
The film continued with some (now retro-futuristic) vignettes showcasing the way that fiber optics were going to change the way we live. There was a boy in the USA video chatting with a girl in China, with a robotic voice auto-translating everything each one of them said. "Do you have a boyfriend?" he asks, and she just giggles coyly. There's a woman voting from home using a touch TV screen, which sounds an alarm when her toddler puts his hand on the screen for identity verification.
The final climactic scene of the film is a fantastical, 80s sci-fi indulgence, reminiscent of Tron. The narrator scientist holds a glowing fiber optic cable in his hand, pointed right at the viewers. There is dramatic bass reverberation on the audio system as the shot zooms in on the cable, and the scientist says solemnly, "Come with me on a journey through a fiber optic cable," or something along those lines. As soon as the cross section of the cable fills the whole screen, the CGI animated "journey" begins. It's exhilarating, and feels much like a space age roller coaster or waterslide ride, with many unexpected twists and turns, graphics of bouncing light balls, neon light grids, and mathematical equations flying past. The audio is full of robotic sounding chirps, beeps, squelches, and rumbles. It was obviously designed to wow tourists, and I never got tired of watching it.
If I remember correctly, the film ends abruptly at the end of this "journey", the lights come up, and tourists are invited to continue through the museum to the next exhibit.
"The Light Fantastic" was directed by Bran Ferren's company Associates & Ferren. Bran Ferren is a special effects artist renowned in the video industry, but relatively unknown outside of it.
I tagged this post as [Partially Lost], because according to the Corning Museum of Glass Library's catalog, at least one copy of "The Light Fantastic" is available in hard copy there, but access to it appears to be limited to this copy. The film is no longer shown in the museum, and I can find no evidence of any availability beyond this library. It was never commercially distributed, and is not on YouTube, from what I can tell. Can anyone prove me wrong on this? What I wouldn't give to see this film again.
The next time I'm in the Southern Tier of New York State, I may just have to set aside a day to visit the Corning Museum of Glass Library in person, and give "The Light Fantastic" a watch for old time's sake. I may just attempt to say "Hail, Prometheus" and surreptitiously make a copy of it for upload it to YouTube, unless someone can convince me that this would be a very legally dangerous move.

For the past several years, rue Island—just south of the Lachine canal toward Pointe Sainte-Charles—had a beautiful set of bike lanes, pedestrian walkways, planters with flowers, and seating. At least until this week, when all the chairs, planters, and walkways were removed, all the markings on the road were shaved off, and there's no more bike lane. It's now just a long, car-centric, street like any other.
There was also a single residential unit at the end of the street that had prominent "Non à la vélorue" signs posted in their window, which are now gone. What happened? Was this road a problem? Did residents lobby to have it removed? It really made me sad to see such a beautiful project destroyed.

J'espère qu'il s'agit du bon /r, dans le cas contraire, toutes mes excuses.
Je vis dans un petit département, où les offres d'emplois dans mon secteur (Communication/webmaster) sont peu nombreuses (Bcp d'entreprise ne veulent que des stagiaire/alternant). Je travaille dans une petite entreprise (25 salariés, patrons (2) compris) dans le secteur de l'automobile.
Je suis en poste depuis le 23/11/2022 , et je pense être largement sous-payé compte tenu de mes études, compétences et missions. Mais j'ai du mal à savoir s'il ne s'agit que d'une impression injustifiée ou d'une réalité. C'est là que j'ai besoin de vos lumières !

Mình sẽ lấy ví dụ về Công ty của mình chẳng hạn, Công ty mình đang làm dịch vụ SEO ở thị trường Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, do đó mình sẽ đăng tải thông tin NAP của công ty GTV SEO lên các nguồn thuộc khu vực Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh hoặc các nguồn dành riêng cho lĩnh vực hoạt động SEO để gia tăng mức độ liên quan, qua đó sẽ giúp cải thiện mức độ uy tín tổng thể về địa điểm.

A veces me pongo a pensar en las condiciones de vida de mis pacientes debido a la ubicación de sus casas. Es decir que la mayoría de mis pacientes viven en las zonas periféricas de las ciudades en donde ni siquiera las personas con más recursos financieros se niegan a pisar debido a los niveles de contaminación. Una franja de tierra que queda al sur de mi ciudad alberga muchas fábricas industriales y ahí viven los más pobres, los hispanos y los negros, ya que los precios de vivienda son inferiores a los del resto de la zona. Sin embargo, los precios no son tan asequibles como antes, por lo cual aún se ven personas sin hogar que ocupan la calle.
Con respecto al tema, he notado que muchos pacientes míos con mayor incidencia de múltiples trastornos de lenguaje tienden a vivir en esta zona que he mencionado. Las fábricas de plástico y de químicos seguramente tienen un efecto negativo sobre la salud de los habitantes porque inhalan todos estos productos nocivos a diario. Además, sus hijos que van a las escuelas de la zona también padecen tasas más elevadas de asma y de otras alergias en comparación con el resto de la ciudad, así que debe de haber alguna conexión entre los problemas de salud que tienen sus hijos y la polución del área.
El fracaso escolar se atribuye a menudo a los negros y a los hispanos, pero la razón por la que se produce este problema siempre cambia según la administración en el poder y la ideología política de los jueces del Tribunal Supremo. El discurso racista aún prevalece en los círculos más cerrados y conservadores del país y los que forman parte de estos grupos siguen deseando la expulsión de los inmigrantes y la manutención de su poder en la sociedad por medio de las instituciones gubernamentales que promulgan leyes discriminatorias. Y a pesar de los avances que hemos logrado a lo largo de las décadas, parece que no todos los integrantes de la sociedad estadunidense tiene la voluntad de ayudar a estos desafortunados a sacar adelante.

2023.06.09 00:58 Daveboy924 Is my plan of getting to SoFi Stadium and then Universal Hollywood the day after the cheapest route?

So, this will be my first time visiting LA. Transportation from LAX to my hotel will be by my hotel's complimentary shuttle, so no help needed there. I'll be staying at a hotel on Century that's about an hour walk to SoFi. Is it a safe walk in the daytime and night time? If not, how easy is boarding the 117 Metro bus back and forth? I can download the TAP app I read about, or it says I can pay in exact change as well. I'm fine with just walking if it's no big deal since I'm a pretty big dude, but you guys would know Century better than I would.

As for Universal, my current plan is to check out from my hotel and take the shuttle to LAX. I have a red-eye flight, so I'm just going to Universal to pass the time. Should also note I'll only have my backpack as a light traveler, so no suitcase, in case that question comes up. From there, I'd buy a round-trip ticket on the Flyaway bus to Union Station which would take me to Universal City and back.
I already checked Uber and it would cost me over $100 total, so definitely not doing a ride share, and I don't want to rent a car either for just two days, so yeah just wondering if my plan seems like the cheapest way there. Also if Google Maps saying it's 2 hours back and forth is correct or not.
Sidenote: I didn't know how close the other airport was to Universal until months after I booked, since it's my first time going to LA and I was only aware of LAX, but that airport doesn't fit within my plans anyway.

Título corto: Océanos y fondos marinos.
CONSIDERANDO que, en virtud del Artículo 16, Sección A - (a), de la Constitución Mundial de la Tierra , todos los océanos y fondos marinos desde 20 km. offshore se definen como Territorio del Mundo;
Varias disposiciones del tratado sobre la Ley de los Mares recientemente ratificado entre naciones son contrarias y violan importantes disposiciones del Artículo 16 de la Constitución Mundial de la Tierra ;

La Comisión de Examen Legislativo o la Comisión Mundial de los Océanos y los Fondos Marinos estudiará la Convención sobre el Derecho del Mar para determinar las disposiciones que violan el principio de los océanos y los fondos marinos como patrimonio común de la humanidad, o qué disposiciones son inconstitucionales o en violación de la legislación mundial, para integrar el cuerpo anterior de Derecho Internacional dentro del Derecho Mundial. Las disposiciones inconstitucionales del Derecho del Mar, o las disposiciones que violan el derecho mundial, no son vinculantes en el Tribunal Mundial.
La Autoridad Mundial de los Océanos y los Fondos Marinos gestionará, supervisará, operará directamente o exigirá licencias mundiales para todo el desarrollo de los minerales, el petróleo, los alimentos y otros recursos de los océanos y los fondos marinos desde 20 km. en alta mar, para asegurar que todo el desarrollo de los océanos y los fondos marinos redunde en beneficio principal de la humanidad en su conjunto, más que en beneficio de cualquier interés especial, privado o nacional.
En algunas disposiciones, la convención sobre el derecho del mar viola el principio de los océanos y los fondos marinos como patrimonio común de la humanidad. Específicamente, algunas disposiciones de la Convención del Derecho del Mar violan los Actos Legislativos Mundiales Números 1, 12 y 13 en los que las armas de destrucción masiva, como submarinos militares, buques de guerra, portaaviones militares, armas nucleares, materiales fisionables, están prohibidas en los océanos y fondos marinos, así como en otros lugares. Las armas de destrucción masiva, incluidos los transportes de armas de destrucción masiva, tienen prohibido el tránsito en o dentro de los océanos (delito grave de clase 1).
La Autoridad Mundial de Océanos y Fondos Marinos (WOSA) desarrollará requisitos de licencia y exigirá que cualquier compañía naviera, petrolera, pesquera y otras compañías obtenga licencias mundiales antes de utilizar los océanos desde 20 km. offshore, incluidas empresas tanto privadas como nacionales. Esta primera sesión del Parlamento Mundial provisional crea por la presente una Comisión Mundial de Océanos y Fondos Marinos (WOSC) que trabajará para preparar los detalles de una Autoridad Mundial de Océanos y Fondos Marinos, de conformidad con los términos de esta Ley y con las disposiciones de la Tierra Constitución Mundial. La WOSC informará a las sesiones posteriores del Parlamento Mundial provisional con recomendaciones específicas, en particular con respecto a la adopción condicional del Derecho del Mar como legislación mundial, con la derogación de las disposiciones inconstitucionales o las disposiciones que violen el Derecho Mundial. I noticed some new Dunkin's appear on Google Maps a few days ago in Los Angeles. I added arrows to the image to show where they are. This sometimes happens when there's new locations under construction, but I have been unable to find out if these locations are real or not. Some of them look too close to others to be real (and this isn't New England). So are they?
No, I don't live in LA, I'm just very curious.

Iar acum navigând nostalgic prin Google foto(sarakie), dau de poza făcută și observ că are o notița. Eu la vremea aceea nu eram foarte copt la minte (aveam 16 ani, cred) nu reușeam să disting foarte bune mesajul sau mai bine zis semnificația balonului până în urmă cu vreo 10 minute când am realizat că pe bilet scrie adresa și numele cuplului, am introdus pe maps și îmi dă că balonul a traversat nu mai mult și nici mai puțin de 1251km. Întrebare mea e alta e posibil că acest balon sa fi circulat aceasta distanță. Daca da, coincidenta face că eu tranzitez zona și mă bate gândul de îmi irosi timp de 45minute(din pauza mea de masa) sa ii sa le urez casa de Piatra daca mai rezistă cuplul. Voi ce experiențe aveți, chiar sunt curios:)) P.s cum drq a venit balonul ăla de langa Nurnberg până în Maramureș

Salut, de o luna de zile tot caut chirie si nu stiu in ce zona sa aleg. Am ajuns la concluzia ca fie iau ceva in Militari, Pallady, sau Berceni intr-un bloc nou cu centrala si mobilat modern, fie renunt la centrala si iau ceva prin Titan, Dristor, sau Drumul Taberei. Sunt unele renovate care arata bine, chiar daca sunt blocuri vechi, lipsa centralei fiind cam singurul dezavantaj.
Buget as zice 400-420 de euro, nici la cat sa ma limitez nu sunt sigur si caut cu 2 camere.
Momentan lucrez remote pentru o firma din alt oras, deci nu am o zona anume de care trebuie sa fiu aproape.
Avantajul celor din residence e ca, de obicei, ai supermarketuri si chiar malluri aproape. De exemplu, am gasit un apartament intr-un residence din Militari la mai putin de 10 minute de Militari Shopping si la vreo 15 minute de statia de metrou Preciziei. As avea chiar tot ce-mi trebuie in zona, inclusiv sala World Class. Partea proasta e ca dureaza cam o ora sa ajung in alta parte a orasului. Uitandu-ma pe Maps, pare izolata zona, la fel si Pallady, dar vad ca dureaza mai putin sa ajung in centru de aici, de exemplu. Stiti cumva de vreo sala de fitness in zona Pallady? Pe Maps cele mai apropiate par sa fie in Titan, chiar nu e niciuna aici?
Cei care aveti apartamente cu bucataria open space, cum e cu mirosul? Evident, cu hota, dar ma gandesc ca tot mai miroase din cand in cand, depinde de ce gatiti.
Cat de des sunt probleme cu apa calda si cu caldura? Am inteles ca in S3 ar fi destul de ok, iar in S6 sunt avarii mai dese.
