2023.06.09 17:23 Zumioo Potential MS diagnosis
Hi,
I am awaiting a brain and C-spine MRI, due to suspected MS by Neurologist. I do not have any clinical signs - as in reflex tests, pin prick tests, eye movement tests were all normal, but he said that is not unexpected when considering MS. I do have many symptoms typical of MS. These include:
- Tingling that started in both feet, then spread up to both calves
- Tingling in left arm and hand
- Left side of face tingling and feels like someone is pouring warm water down it
- Dizziness, which my Neurologist called Oscillopsia, along with minor head pain on left side of head
- I do have "floaters" in eye but Neurologist looked at my optic nerve by shining a light in my eye and said it looked OK.
My question is based around timing of RRMS symptoms. I have been experiencing these symptoms for 3 months now.
For the first month it was just tingling in both feet. This was getting better, then all of a sudden I got dizzy in a supermarket and that persisted for about 1.5 weeks. I then was better, almost completely symptom free for about 2 weeks. However the dizziness then came back, and soon after the tingling in left foot, left arm and the new symptom was left side of face numb/warm water feeling, and very stiff back of neck. It is worse this time than it was before. This stayed for around 1.5 weeks again and has eased up a lot today vs yesterday and previous days. In fact the tingling has mostly gone and been replaced with intermittent stabs of pain in fingertips and toes of left side.
Is this typical of RRMS? Can the symptoms go away for such a short time period as 2 weeks then come back?
I was under the impression with MS, generally you get symptoms that can come on fast, but may take a while to abate, and you don't generally get two relapses so close together. I'm interested in hearing from people with MS if I mistaken there or not?
Aware I really need to just wait on the MRI + results, but seeking some advice really. I'm obviously really anxious at the moment due to what has been going on for the past 3 months.

2023.06.09 17:23 shutupmegz121 Single Umbilical Artery discovered at 35 weeks
Has anyone ever had a single umbilical artery diagnosed in the third trimester? I just had a scan to check baby boy’s position today (he’s head down) at 35+2. He’s measuring on track in the 40the percentile at 5 pounds 9 ounces with plenty of fluid. Now they want to do ultrasounds every week. Any experiences with this? Does this typically lead to being induced earlienot making it to 40 weeks?

2023.06.09 17:22 Ok_School_6844 To my fellow high VCI people.
Hi there,
I've been lurking on this sub for quite some time now and thought I'd finally post something.
I did the WAIS IV recently and received a score of 145 on the VCI section. My GAI was also close to 140. I suspect that I have inattentive ADHD.
I've always exhibited great potential, particularly as a child - I was called a genius/gifted by just about everyone who encountered me between the ages 1-13 - however, I proved to be an underachiever. I'm moderately successful for my age (25). I have a degree in business/commerce and a decent job, girlfriend etc, but I've always thought I'd amount to something professionally.
Like many of you, I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge. And I have aspirations of becoming a professor in a linguistically oriented discipline - likely psychology/philosophy.
To those with a high verbal IQ, I'd like to know what your experiences have been:
i) What do you do for work?
ii) Have you also felt like an underachiever at times?
iii) Do you have ADHD?
iv) What are some practical manifestations of your high VCI and how has it helped you?
You don't need answer all the aforementioned questions. Feel free to share whatever you're comfortable with.

2023.06.09 17:22 herequeerandgreat the best picture nominees in a nutshell.
"hello ladies and gentleman. welcome to the announcement for the nominees for best picture. here we go. up first, we have a super popular movie that is almost gauranteed to win. next, we have a movie that was kinda ok but did super well at the box office so why the hell not? next, we have a really good movie from a filmmaking legend that everyone is gonna expect to sweep but probably won't even win anything. up next, we have a foreign movie that very few people have heard of and even fewer have seen. next up is the obligatory period movie. next up is a movie that really doesn't have much going on story wise but the cinematography is pretty and that's good enough for us. next up is a super obscure movie that even people who liked it will question why we're nominating it for best picture. up next is a surrealist movie that became a surprise overnight success. and next up is an adaptation of a novel that hollywood has tried to adapt in the past but always failed until now and fans of the novel actually think it's really good. and last but certainly not least, the obligatory streaming service movie. alright folks. see you on oscars night. however, if you're unable to tune in, just catch the golden globes and you'll have a decent enough idea of what movie is gonna win what?"

2023.06.09 17:22 EyeMaleficent4043 [Hiring] Two armoured DnD characters in one scene (Budget: $150-$250 USD)
Looking for a digital artist that’s comfortable drawing two heavily armoured paladins facing off in a landscape scene (both on opposite ends of the scene, scene has a background.) Further details:
The first character is a player’s character, an oath of conquest paladin that is facing off against his nemesis, the second character is basically a 10ft tall suit of animated armour that is a resurrected Saint who has giant metal wings. They are about to resolve a religious conflict to the background of an eclipse standing on top of a giant stone coffin (the coffin would just look like a stone floor on the art). And, of course, they are both wielding greatswords.
So, basically, its two characters and a background. I have detailed references/commission sheets ready. This is a commission for a personal dnd game (non-commercial).
The max budget is $250 USD, and the deadline is very flexible though I'd prefer to have it done in less than 3 months.

2023.06.09 17:22 zovits The Gaius monologue, but adapted to the upcoming Redditwide blackout
Tell me, for whom do you work?
Hmph! How very glib. And do you believe in Reddit? Reddit's content is contributed by users. Its sub-reddits are moderated by volunteers. And its CEO is engaging in deception.
It is naught but a paper town of lies. To believe in a company is to believe in nothing. At Reddit, the stakeholders often change the rules to suit their needs - though your users only rarely get to set policy. Which is strange, is it not?
Are the "Users" otherwise engaged? I was given to understand they were the source of your income. If you truly believe them your most valuable asset, why do you not act like a decent company, and listen to them? They will answer - so long as you provide them with the freedom to use your platform and third party apps. Your users are no different than your workers - humans everyone. Accept but this, and you'll see how Reddit's API changes are bleeding the platform dry.
Nor is this unknown to your shareholders. Which prompts the question: Why do they cling to these inane plans? What drives even men of learning - even the great Spez - to ignore his users? The answer? Your owners lack the humility to do otherwise! For the world of the Internet to mean anything, the users must own the world. To this end they have congregated ever to build communities on platforms - to grow famous through posting. And when the spambots arrive, it is ever the moderators who get rid of the trash.
Knowing this, but a single path is tempting the greedy owner - that of total control. A path which leads to enervation and abandonment. Only a platform of openness can rightly retain its users. And in this world of creeping corporate bullshit, that one truth will prove its salvation.
Come, user of Reddit, join me! Your silence shall serve as proof of Reddit's true value! It is only right that we should strike, for none among the company has the power to replace us!

2023.06.09 17:21 Responsible_Weekend4 Palpatine’s quotes to be used in the guide
Hello guys. You know I want to make Palpatine-style dictator guide, so I remembered and researched some of his famous quotes to use in the guide and make it more fun. Below you can find altered Palpatine’s quotes adapted to Anton Rayne’s perspective(not chronological):
After signing Electoral Campaign Finance Bill:
“I love democracy—I love the Republic.”
When ordering investigations of Tarquin Soll:
Anton: “There’s a great disturbance in the Force.” Lucian: “I’ve felt it.” Anton: “We have an old enemy. Old fck who has tried to sink my constitution. I have no doubt this man is the son of a btch.” Lucian: “He’s just an old man, sir. Although he was very influential once, but not anymore after you have passed the constitution.” Anton: “Don’t underestimate his influence. The Force is strong with him. That son of a b*tch must not become powerful again.” Lucian: “Sir, we have very specialized Lord Greiser to investigate and pressurize him. If he could be pressurized, I think he would become a powerful ally. Do you want me to call him?” Anton: “Ah yeeeeesssss, he would be a great asset. Can it be done?” Lucian: “He will join(support) us or die, sir.”
After passing the constitution in Assembly:
“Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen.”
After passing the constitution in the Supreme Court:
“POWEEEEERRRR!!! UNLIMITED POWWEEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!!!”
When Ricter ranting against you in Assembly:
"Your feeble skills are no match for the power of the dark side."
When giving order about cleaning criminal gangs and subversives after forming SSP:
"Execute Order 66! Wipe them out. All of them!"
After passing the death sentence to Soll:
"Now Tarquin Soll, You Will Die."
When lying Heron Garaci about giving him the position of Chief Justice:
“Only through me you can achieve the power greater than any politician. Learn to know the Dark Side of the Force and you will be able to save your ass from certain destruction.”
When you declare your intentions to empower your constitutional powers:
"The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be…unnatural." When Lucian and Petr explain that it’ll be very difficult, then shout “There is only one plan—one great design which shall govern Sordland—mine!”
When giving order to Karl to destroy the opposition:
“Do what must be done, Lord Greiser. Do not hesitate. Show no mercy.”
Anton Rayne thinking about himself when post-assassination protests occur:
“You’re one man against Sordland full of scoundrels.”
Literally everyone who opposes you:
“Those who do not serve my ends, no matter how powerful they are, will be eliminated.”
When declaring war to Rumburg:
“Your arrogance blinds you, Queen Livingston. Now you will experience the full power of the Dark Side.”
Speech about constitutional changes in USP Meeting:
“I AM THE SENATE!” I am the USP!
Speech about constitutional changes in Assembly:
“I love democracy—I love the Republic. The power you give me I will lay down when this crisis has abated. And as my first act with this new authority, I will create a Grand Army of the Republic to counter the increasing internal and external threats and to bring order to the galaxy(to Sordland, as greater extent, to Eastern Merkopa).”
Replacing pervert Petr with Lucian:
“Soon I will have a new apprentice(VP), one far older, but more powerful.”
Talking with Lucian on his first day as VP (my new apprentice):
“Do you recall what I told you about the relationship between power and understanding, Lord Galade?”
Last talk with Soll after trial:
“From here you will witness the final destruction of the Sollism and the end of your gang’s insignificant babbling.”
When Nia, Ciara and Simon resign:
“Good. I can feel your anger. I am defenseless. Take your weapon. Strike me down with all your hatred, and your journey towards the dark side will be complete.”
When talking with Soll in the restroom:
“Oh, I’m afraid the Justices will not be immune when I order your arrest!”
When Lucian criticizing Petr for his immature behaviors(Spy Scandal):
“Gooooooooddd! Your hate has made you powerful. Now, fulfill your destiny and take Petr’s place at my side!”
When I nationalize Bergia Steel and Mikail Aven barking that “This is a big mistaaaake”:
“Oh, no, my young Mikail. You will find that it is you who are mistaken, about a great…many…things.”
When talking Franc about Civil War:
“Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Girl the Unwise?”
You’re free to add your version. I can add them.

2023.06.09 17:21 Randum311 [NEWBIE] Beginner to Intermediate!
Hello fellow shredders, I took the full course of online fender lessons over the year, and moved onto the PickUpMusic courses to learn more theory. Specifically the CAGED method. And drilling the scales and shapes, how they connect across the board. And now it "makes sense". I can pick up a guitar and pick away and make it sound 'musical" but I am by no means good enough to consider myself an intermediate player. I am playing some full songs here or there. (Blink-182 stuff, Nirvana, and then a slew of riffs but not entire songs due to complexity of certain parts)
I am slowly able to hear something and play roughly what I hear, but its like I feel "glimpses" of being in the intermediate space but not quite...mostly power chords and then some terrible sounding high strings until I do some "trial and error' based on the scales I do know. So my big question is, what can I do solidify my move into the intermediate space? More drills of scales on speed?
My goal is to be able to just sit down and play stuff off the top of my head. I absolutely get lost today just exploring how the scales connect up/down the fret board. Throw on a drum beat and pick a scale and start going.
TLDR: How can I move to the next level from beginner?

2023.06.09 17:21 H2face I would like your help to see if moving out with a friend is feasible.
Me and a friend currently live in the south west and would like to move away and start our lives. We were looking to move to Liverpool as house prices are cheaper and we want to go to a city. We are both 20.
We estimate we could earn a minimum of £40,000 between the 2 of us and have around £15,000 for a deposit. We would like a property around £100/150k.
When I speak to my parents they tell me that it won’t be affordable and I’m being unrealistic. I work at a mortgage advisor firm and see people earning the same amount as we could who are getting mortgages. But I’m aware I don’t know the realities of life.
We are aware of the implications of friends moving in together and we will take as many precautions as possible to ensure we stay friends and we are fair with finances. If you have any suggestions about this I would appreciate that.
So basically, I would like to hear from you kind people and figure out if I really am being unrealistic or if my parents are being overly protective?

2023.06.09 17:21 GronlandicReddit Tips for Beginners
As I see so many “just starting out - any advice” posts here, I would offer a few thoughts:
- Read all of it, every page, even what you would ordinarily skip in a book. Think long and hard about the dedication.
- Think about what you are reading and doing. It clearly is not intended as a passive experience but deliberately engages you. Consider if your doing anything similar to anyone in the book.
- Consider who seems to be the current speaker, and what font is being used. Some fonts are very different. Some are very similar. Are you considering every speaking character? Are there speakers in the book who do not appear as characters? Never stop asking who might be speaking at any time.
- If you at all can help it, read it yourself first. Resist your urge to ask questions. It is like psychotherapy - it is meant to force you to consider things yourself, and bring about self-realized conclusions.
- Everything is important, and usually not in the way you think.
- If you find something you see obviously connects to something else but cannot figure out why or how, it’s not because you’re doing something wrong. You’re on the right track.
- All of it can be explained. You’ve understood the book once you figure out what it is explaining.
If I think of something else I’ll let you know.

2023.06.09 17:21 throwaway_coin_4_car Bored of my Honda Civic
Hey y'all,
I'm getting bored of my 2016 Honda Civic after 7 years of ownership, and I'm looking to trade it off. It's been great on gas and very reliable, but it's a small coupe and frankly not interesting to drive anymore.
I enjoy road trips, driving down trails, and offering rides to my friends. It's kind of embarrassing asking them to climb way down into the backseat. The Civic definitely prefers smooth, well-leveled, pothole-free roads... a rarity in Oklahoma. It would be great to drive something more rugged and capable for passengers (4 doors please!) and rough roads. Still, you will also see sedans and hatchbacks on my list because I think they are a good value. I make longer road trips occasionally: my family lives 700 miles away, and there are trips to Dallas about 3 hr away. Although they are great all-rounders, I dislike nearly all unibody SUV's made today. They all look and feel the exact same to me.
I'm aware that the car market and most dealers are still horrible, and it may really not be a good time for me to trade away the Civic. However, I'm looking forward to hearing from y'all so I can narrow my search! :-)
Current car:
2016 Honda Civic Coupe LX-P, ~78,000 miles. Paid off.
Budget:
$34,000 on hand including the expected value of the Civic. Prefer not to finance or lease; don't want to pay interest.
A shortlist of the cars that I'm most interested in, in no particular order:
* Jeep Wrangler w/ the 3.6L (2015+)
* Toyota Tacoma w/ V6 (2016+)
* Toyota RAV4
* Toyota Corolla Cross
* Honda Accord LX (2023)
* Honda Civic Hatch EX-L (2021+)
* Subaru Crosstrek w/ the 2.5L (2021+)
* Subaru Outback w/ the 3.6L
About me:
25 M, single, no prospects, no kids. Apartment. Graduated college and moved out to Oklahoma a year ago. No debts. 10-mile daily commute.
Thanks!

2023.06.09 17:20 harukasweet Is it a good idea to move to Bangkok as an expat?
Hi everyone, recently joined, great sub with lots of useful information for people who want to move to another country and who are already expats! A bit of my background, I've been working remotely since 2017 and digital nomad since last December again. I'm female in my early 30s from the U.S. I spent 2, 3 months this winter in Thailand, mostly bkk and really liked it. But I'm not sure if I can move there full time because the dating scene is pretty terrible there for women, and it doesn't really have a tech scene. But there are many other advantages like quality of life, easy access to other countries in Asia, pretty easy to make friends if you try.
I'd like to hear your opinion/view on it, what would you do if you were me? And for women who moved to Thailand from the the U.S./Europe and Asia, what have your experiences been so far? Would you recommend moving there? TIA awesome community! :)

2023.06.09 17:20 Lucky_War2236 Maybe i'm afraid of other infjs?
This is my background: There is a problem with me. When I was a kid, I was a extroverted healthy infj, but when I grew up and reached to my teenagers years I started to doubt myself and who I am, which resulted to taking the mbti test. I was happy with my accurate test results; years passed by and I became more aware of what being the infj type really means. I became aware to all of it problems, like: not trusting people easily or feeling different from others in an odd way. So, I decided to change myself to an intj, or something more rational. It took me 3 years to at least become a sociopath and fail at becoming an intj.
Here is my problem: First time was in a comic book and the Mc was an infj who cared about others and wasn't a sociopathic nihilist infj like me. The story wasn't interesting but the infj Mc I'm talking about gave me such a deep feeling of connection to my emotions that I couldn't stop thinking about them. I experienced nightmares, anxiety, overthinking and insomnia after that day. It took me about 1.5 week to become my past sociopathic nihilist infj. About a month passed by and I started to read a book about a sociopathic nihilist infj named "no longer human". I don't usually read books other than my school books but this one book was special. It was the first book I was so interested about to stay up until 4 am reading it, and the first book that the main character was so much like me that I could feel his feelings and predict what he's going to do next. I had am awesome experience after reading this book. I didn't have a single problem until I reached the end of the book. The woman that said he was an angel, made me so angry of why nobody could understand the Mc. I thought maybe this was what I am too. Maybe I can't just live for myself and I should always have my life focused on other people's needs. I don't want to take care of other people's feelings.
I have been struggling with this problem since 3 months ago. I thought this was another one of those sad dark days that would eventually fade away but it didn't stop. Can anybody help? Or advise me? Please? Or you could share some of your experiences on this field...

2023.06.09 17:20 mariospants Theory on the new movie taking the piss out of Marvel movies (minor spoilers)
One of the things that this movie does well is being incredibly "meta", with references and slight twists on pop culture, super hero movies, and the nature of conflict and motivation for super heroes. There's actually a lot to unpack, but one of the more interesting things appears (to me) to be that this movie is shitting all over the MCU multiverse saga.
First off, The Flash is basically a multiverse movie. It wraps up a whole multiverse saga within its prodigious runtime, exploring all of the themes we're likely to encounter in the MCU multiverse saga. In other words, they've pre-empted it and finished it. People who see The Flash may be fed up and done with all of this multiverse nonsense (Spiderman No Way Home, and Dr. Strange Mulitverse of Madness just helping to overfeed the conceit). After this, are we really going to get excited to see more multiverse crap in Loki, Season 2, and then the movies with Kang? It's going to appear very samey at this point. DC has helped over-saturate the multiverse business.
Then, there's the bowl of spaghetti that Bruce Wayne serves the two Barrys... Bruce Wayne describes timelines as being hard, uncooked spaghetti, but once you alter the past, it doesn't diverge history and create a parallel universe, it creates a rotated, broken one that alters not only the present and future, but also the past. He points to the bowl of cooked spaghetti and says something like "the multiverse is a mess". The spaghetti sauce is like the blood of the innocents, spilling over between realities, and the parmesan (as Barry points out) is "just a topping".
So DC is basically ending multiverse movies by doing a really good one (with references to Back to the Future) and then taking the piss out of it by having Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman refer to the multiverse as a tangled mess. Basically calling out Disney's entire multiverse saga out as a mess (which I agree with).
It's still kind of tasty, though, and as the immature, "dumb" Barry points out, immature and dumb people are devouring it.
It's all kind of hidden, and all kind of right there.

2023.06.09 17:20 Scott_TargetTestPrep 💡 TTP Pro Tip: Remind Yourself That You Don’t Have To Be Perfect
https://preview.redd.it/mm94sotpe05b1.png?width=750&format=png&auto=webp&s=27d5a8cdf3e4f4ccc2256cb8980541355cc1b96f Remind Yourself That You Don’t Have To Be Perfect If you expect yourself to be perfect on the GMAT, you’re never going to meet your expectations. And if you never meet your expectations, well then, your confidence in yourself won’t be very high.
Students who strive for perfection see every GMAT question they answer incorrectly as an affront to their vision of how they “should” perform. Thus, their confidence in their test-taking abilities tends to be low. On the other hand, students who view missed questions as opportunities to improve and a natural part of the learning process tend to feel more confident about their GMAT prospects.
Here’s the thing: perfection on the GMAT is not possible or even necessary. For instance, according to ESR data, a test-taker can incorrectly answer around 10 Quant questions on the GMAT and still score Q48. That’s quite a few missed questions! Now, maybe you’re aiming for a Quant score higher than 48, but the point still stands. You don’t have to be perfect on the GMAT to earn high scores. And when it comes to GMAT confidence, expecting perfection from yourself is probably doing more harm than good.
So, do your best. Put your full effort in. But, remind yourself that you don’t have to be perfect to reach your GMAT goals. And if you need some more confidence-building around not being perfect, check out this article on
how many questions you can get wrong on the GMAT and still score 700.

2023.06.09 17:20 NeebTheWeeb Donald Trump and the Christian Right: A Critical Perspective
Hello, fellow
Christianity community members,
I want to talk about a deeply troubling trend that I've been observing, one that connects the Christian Right with former President Donald Trump. I'm not here to launch a baseless tirade against individuals or groups, but to critically evaluate the entwining of politics and religion and what that means for us as followers of Jesus. As a socialist, my views will inherently diverge from many of Trump's policies and the conservative values held by the Christian Right.
One of my main concerns is the co-opting of Christianity for political gain. While this is not exclusive to the Right or to Trump, the evangelical backing of Trump has been particularly conspicuous. The support for a man who, on multiple occasions, has displayed behavior contrary to the teachings of Christ is baffling. From mocking the disabled to expressing xenophobic sentiments, from sexist remarks to questionable business practices – the incongruence between Trump's actions and Christian values seems stark.
Moreover, Trump's policies have often not aligned with a loving, inclusive, and just interpretation of the Christian faith. Policies that have denied entry to refugees, disadvantaged the poor, and supported racial profiling and systemic injustices, to name a few, appear contradictory to the essence of Christianity – a religion that champions love, compassion, and justice. I struggle to reconcile such policies with the words of Jesus who called upon us to love our neighbors, to welcome the stranger, and to care for the poor and oppressed.
The Christian Right, in aligning with Trump, has often overlooked these contradictions. Their support seems hinged on a few select issues such as abortion and religious freedom, issues that are no doubt important but should not be the only measures of Christian morality. When we allow political leaders to use Christianity as a tool for their agenda, rather than upholding the essence of Jesus's teachings, we risk distorting the message of our faith.
Furthermore, the Christian Right's association with Trump has contributed to growing polarization and division, not only within American society but also within the Church itself. Christianity is about unity and love, and yet, the alignment of certain Christian factions with divisive politics feels antithetical to these principles.
In conclusion, it is essential for us, as Christians, to scrutinize the relationships between faith and politics critically. We must avoid turning a blind eye to discrepancies between political actions and the teachings of Jesus just because someone claims to support "Christian values." It is our responsibility to foster a faith that is based on the love, compassion, and justice that Jesus taught, rather than a faith that aligns with any political party or figure.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and engaging in respectful discourse about this significant issue. After all, as believers, our ultimate allegiance should be to Christ and his teachings, not to political parties or leaders.

2023.06.09 17:19 LJ1205E A Good Day (a ramble)
Dad (80) has been in a nursing home for the last five months. Rules and regulations are a whole different beast here in Puerto Rico.
The director at the home insists visitors get Covid testing done before being allowed inside. Visiting days are only twice a week.
Visitors must provide their own test kits and one of the staff does the swabbing.
I have refused to do this for a bunch of reasons.
Main one being that the person administering the test does so without gloves or a mask. They don’t sanitize their hands in between each visitor they test.
I’ve already gotten Covid twice and I’m trying not to get sick while I’m here on the island, however long that may be.
We are required to wear a mask even while waiting on a handicap ramp outside in the blazing heat.
Currently, PR is under excessive heat warnings. Sometimes I am waiting out there with Mom (76) for up to 30 minutes while other visitors are being tested. I won’t let my Mom wait there alone as she is wobbly on a good day.
Sometimes, I get lucky and I can see my Dad through some metal grating.
When he had the strength and kinda knew who I was he’d come to the grating and we’d hold hands. One day I forgot my mask and it became a huge deal. Got reprimanded and yelled at for putting my Dad at risk.
Now that Dad no longer can stand or walk on his own those interactions are gone.
With all the precautions Dad was tested positive for Covid last month and we were not notified. I repeat, we were NOT notified.
He was placed in quarantine and somehow had the strength to pick up a tv and pull a dresser on top of himself. Or so the story goes. Each time the staff was questioned the story changed.
One of the nurses last week spoke to me and said I’d regret it if I didn’t come inside to visit with him. Yes, please add more guilt to my life.
But yesterday one of the nurses broke the rules.
One of my brothers, who I have not spoken to in 20 years came for a visit. He has a very persuasive personality and stood his ground with the staff and somehow got inside the doorway after he was refusing the testing and making a stink. Just as two nurses were bringing our Dad into the common area my brother reached out to him and started yelling saying, “Dad! It’s me! Look at me Dad, look at my face! Dad!”
My four oldest brothers are the spitting image of our Dad. Dad let his son hug him. The nurse grabbed me through the gate and said get in there and hug your Dad.
The three of us clung to each other and after we let go I looked around and there was not a dry eye in the place.
Some other nurses got me back on the other side of the gate quickly. It all happened in maybe less than 30 seconds.
There was some slight recognition on Dad’s part. The smallest flicker of life behind his sunken eyes.
I won’t forget how I hugged his frail body. Every vertebrae of his back. Not wanting to crush him but not wanting to let go. It wrecked me and I’m still tearing up.
Yesterday was a good day.
