2023.06.10 05:18 AuburnAshh Please help! Ticket and Live event questions!
Hello!
Let me preface this by saying I really don't know much about wrestling as I am not a fan. However, my fiancé is a huge wrestling fan and I wanted to surprise him with tickets to his first live event. I would ask him all these questions but I want to keep it a surprise for his birthday coming up soon.
The date in question is the Columbus Dynamite Rampage show.
I am really confused about the seating. This event is at a large arena and yet it is only showing seats for 1/4 of the venue. Is this a common thing? Why not sell all the seats in the arena if you are having it in a fairly large arena in the first place?
Also about seating, is it better to be on the floor or in the raised seating? I saw somewhere that you really don't want floor seats unless you are really close to the ring.
Lastly, can we expect big ticket wrestlers to be there like MJF? My fiancé said that usually those on the promotional poster will be there but then backtracked and said they aren't always there which really confused me. I am just so used to rock concerts and knowing who exactly will be at a show each night that this just doesn't make sense to me. Is it more about the experience than who is actually on the lineup?
Thank you all in advance!

2023.06.10 02:03 cricket9818 Player by Player 2022-23 Season and Postseason Review: Mitchell Robinson
Hello fellow Knicks fans. Last year I had a lot of fun writing up reviews for each player, and I decided I’ll make it a yearly thing. Format will be a little different to keep it fresh but same goals; evaluate players based on how they looked, their numbers, advanced stats, team stats, and an eye to next year. I will go player by player until I cover all major players on the Knicks roster. Enjoy!
If you want to check out Hartenstein and previous writeups give a click here. Player Profile: Mitchell Robinson
Age: 24
Contract Remaining: Three years at $15M, $14M, and $12M (beautifully crafted extension btw)
Last Seasons “Room for Improvement for Next Season”: “... bit of an enigma…despite basically only having two skills (interior defense and dunking) but he could be
stupid good if he did even just one more thing well…Mitch’s first priority should be FT%...any form of a baby hook, drop stop, anything post move to have a form of an independent scoring ability…always chatter about him taking 3’s all off season, but four years in he’s yet to attempt one…guarding bigs on the perimeter.”
Long story short, I wanted to see Mitch expand his offensive game. Now, I’ll go into greater detail in a bit, but overall…Oof. Especially at the FT%. Mitch has actually been going backwards in that department and that is not good. Especially when some “Hack a Mitch” moments began happening in the playoffs. I would say based on eye test Mitch was a little better on guarding stretch 5’s on the perimeter, but overall he still gets toasted by them at the 3 point line. However, that’s his only defensive issue, so can easily let that pass.
2022-23 Season 59 GP, 58GS, 27MPG
7.4PTS,9.4REB, .9AST, .9STL, 1.8BLK, .7TOV per game.
67%/NA/48% Shooting splits
Mitchell Robinson had himself a very classic Meetch season; injuries, solid defense, amazing rebounding and ….some offense. Let’s begin. So first off, Mitch is just an absolute fucking monster on the board. He averaged 9.4 reb in just 27mpg and of those 4.5 were offensive rebounds, which is nothing short of incredible. I always am on Mitch because his value on offense is limited by his skillset (will circle back to that in a moment) but his offensive rebounding is so vital to the team concept. I can’t imagine how many extra points were scored because Mitch outworked defenders on the boards. Aside from his rebounding, his shot blocking and interior defense is almost unmatched in the league. Teams struggle to score in the paint when Mitch is in the game and it's invaluable to the teams defensive concepts. Now, Mitch had a great year on defense and the boards, now let's talk offense. My first big knock on him was free throws. Yeah, he’s going backwards there. Amazingly, Mitch has seen a decrease in his FT%
every year he’s been in the league. I find that to be nothing short of maddening. To get consistently worse as the years goes on is rare, and it's not just going down, its
plummeting. His rookie year was 60%, not bad at all, and then 56%, 49%, cratering to a new low this year at 48% (and that’s all on consistent volume so no outliers). Below 50% is just unacceptable. Period. The fact that his rookie year was so high means he should be able to get back to it. Now as far as the rest of his offensive game goes, what’s interesting is that Mitch often tells us he’s capable. However we all know that Thibs offensive schemes
never has action from the center. However, a handful of times throughout the year (talking actually 15-20 times) Mitch was entrusted with a post up chance or would faux a dribble hand off and drive to the rim, and you know what? He looked fucking
good doing it. I’m honestly starting to think that Mitch is much more skilled than we think but Thibs just doesn’t run action through him. As I said yesterday with Hartenstein, it's very possible his value is being suppressed. Injury bug also bit Mitch again, as he played in under 60 games for the second time in the last three years. Makes it all the more important to have good backups behind him, which Hartenstein and Sims are.
Advanced Stats: VORP: 1.7 WS/48: .197 PER: 18.9 TS%: 65%
The advanced stats back up Mitch’s value. Very efficient and valuable, with solid Win Share rates and a very nice PER. That said, his PER was actually the lowest it's ever been, but that just goes to show that even with how great Mitch was this year he can be even better. He accumulated his second highest defensive win share total of his career and also graded out as an overall positive on BPM for offense and defense, always good to see a player is positive on both sides of the ball.
Mitch ranked around 75th in terms of pure defensive rating, backing up that he is a valuable contributor on that side of the floor, something that the eye test definitely backs up. Interestingly, Mitch doesn’t appear in many of the Knicks top rated defensive lineups, but from what the data shows, it has more to do with the teammates he shares the floor with. Randle, RJ and Brunson usually play with Mitch and we all know they aren’t defensive dynamos. Mitch and Hartenstein trade off on being in the top 10 of net rating lineups, showing that the bench and starting units each have their moments.
2023 Playoffs: 6.5PTS, 9.3REB, .8AST, .6STL, 1.5BLK, .9TOV per game
60%/N/A/39% from the field
.2 VORP WS/48 .165 PER: 16.6
Mitchell Robinson made his playoff debut this year as he was injured the last time the Knicks made it. Unlike several other players Mitch actually played very similar to his numbers and effectiveness during the regular season. He was an overall positive player, buoyed by his incredible offensive rebounding (he actually averaged more offensive rebounds than defensive, which is incredible) and his continued staunch interior defense. However, his FT%, 39%, is absolutely embarrassing. And I am not going to mince here, it is EMBARRASSING to shoot that low. The only other Knick to shoot that terrible in the playoffs from the stripe is Chris Dudley. Ugh, what an ugly shot to watch.
2023 Off season Free throwing. Lots of and lots of free throw shooting. Get that up to 50% and then we can talk. Aside from that, Mitch appears to have some offensive skills, but until he’s allowed to use them in games we won’t truly know what he’s working on and what he’s not. Again, better perimeter defense would be ideal but that’s nitpicking at this point. Going into his 6th(!!) year in the league, Mitch has more or less set the tone for the type of player he is, which is a board crashing interior defender who can cash in dunks
Overall Grade for 2022-23 season: B+
Mitch had himself a very productive year. His scoring actually took a dip, but that happens when your scoring is mostly reliant on others and you can’t hit free throws. He’s among the top interior defenders and arguably the best rebounder in the league. Can’t ask for too much more. Staying on the court more would be a nice boon as well, but we will take what we can get.
More to come soon. Let’s go Knicks!

2023.06.09 22:54 ImportantBridge4743 Suspect in 2016 Murder ran into Parkway Gardens.
2023.06.09 21:14 JugZilla1981 AITA won tickets, lost best friend.
So in 2019 I won a set of tickets to see Jingle Ball in NYC. Before I tried to win these tickets I asked my ( at the time) closest friend if he wanted to go since my husband would not want to go unless dragged. I had checked the PA jingle ball line up and thought that NYC would be similar, ie Sam Smith and Lizzo. He said yes but he had to work so we might be late getting to the concert IF I won them. So to try and get to the point- I won the tickets!
We then found out it was not SS and lizzo but Tayor and the Jonas Bros headlining. That's cool if you like them, I do not. So I called friend who had agreed and said listen the lineup isn't what we thought if I can sell these tickets would you rather go have a night in the city and he said yes. The back up plan was we would just go to the show if the tickets didn't sell.
Come to find out I won 7th row floor seats. They sold immediately and for 1500 a piece. And I under priced them compared to what was for sale. I called friend and told him the great news. He then started telling me we should book a hotel too. While I was excited about the idea I had just bout a house 6 months ago and Christmas was in 2 weeks so I was cool with spending 5-600 on the night, a hotel in NYC 2 week before Christmas was going to cost half that and friend wanted to go do a tasting menu at a Japanese restaurant that cost 150 per person before drinks, tax and tip. I finally said no I wasn't willing to spend the whole amt on one night and that when things got very complicated.
He asked if he wanted me to invite his very wealthy friend to dinner who would pay for him and I can pay for drinks and the hotel which would still be more than the 600 I had planned on spending. I got 2500 after fees. I said that wasn't necessary and asked if we could push till after the holidays since then everything in the city would be less expensive.
Friend had a fit. Mind you this is a platonic friend who isn't even into women. I was "greedy" and "half the money belonged to him". I tried to calmly make him understand that people who have alot of responsibility do not just drop 2500 on a night and 600 on one night was a lot and I didn't spend that kind of money on my partner on one night.
End game I kept the money, took another friend to the city for the day and then put the rest in savings thinking that we'd make up and then have out night out eventually. It's been 4 years we haven't spoken since. Am I the asshole?

2023.06.09 17:36 2FatC TGIF Tour of Headlines
The oil market is buzzing about the surprise cut by the KSA, who effectively said, "Take that!" to those commodity traders short on oil due to global macro economic slowing. Meh.
OPEC members cheat. Certain members can't produce up to their quota level. Certain members can't afford to dial production back. The Saudi's continue to enjoy being the swing producer in their cartel with the means to add or subtract barrels almost like operating a light switch. But. This isn't positive news for the start of summer driving season.
Let's look at other headlines.
From Morning Brew, tension between bosses and workers about WFH. Excerpt:
Plus, there’s a whole lot of drama at the insurer Farmers Group, the WSJ reported. Last year, its CEO told employees that WFH was permanent. But a new guy, Raul Vargas, took over the position and last month said actually, nevermind. Vargas told staff that in order to foster “collaboration, creativity, and innovation” workers needed to be back in the office at least three days a week. of the Seattle headquarters to protest a number of grievances they had with the company, including its demand for in-person work three days a week. Amazon’s response? Tesla’s lightning-fast Supercharger network starting next year. Plus, beginning in 2025, all of GM’s freshly made EVs will come with Tesla’s charging hardware. GM’s announcement follows a similar move Ford made last month, and the deal among the three largest US-based automakers essentially guarantees that Tesla’s chargers will be the industry norm moving forward. Possible Bad News for Alcohol Sin Stocks? This stat: Stat: Whether they’re opting for shroom chocolates or just being hangover-conscious, Gen Z is buying noticeably less alcohol}}&mid={{md5(profile.email)}}&mblid=8681e1518818)
at concerts, Billboard reported. One club owner in Tucson, AZ, told the outlet that at every event aimed at Gen Z, alcohol sales fell by as much as 25% compared to concerts for older folks. While that may be a hopeful sign for society, it’s a sobering development for smaller venues that need to make up lost revenue. *******************
I like sin stocks. And the last time I bought alcohol at an event, it was hella expensive, but I wouldn't rush to sell any sin stocks on this tidbit. If I owned a real estate stock, I might consider other ways people are consuming entertainment and look for larger data sets. Would AI and VR be disruptive here?
From Yahoo's Morning Brief: What We're Watching: Goodbye, Bear Market: With the bear market finally behind, investors are continuing to ask the questions the Brief has been raising this week — will we see the strength in tech continue to the rest of the market? What We're Reading: And excerpts from an Open Letter to Ryan Cohen (link below): ...But you are failing GameStop. And perhaps your biggest failure is the lack of communication to the average investor community. A series of 8-minute-long earnings calls the past two years led by Furlong, with no Q&A? Are you kidding? Not a single investor-focused event detailing your grand plan? I get being cryptic for competitive reasons, but you are a public company executive. Investors deserve to know about the vision for a company controlled by you personally and your handpicked board. The average investor has placed a ton of faith in you, Ryan. They have spent hours upon hours reviewing GameStop's financials, supporting you on social media, and the comment sections on Yahoo Finance, among other places. It's time you show them the respect they deserve. The Ryan Cohen we talked with at Yahoo Finance in 2019 seemed to be someone that would at least entertain the thought of caring about the average guy. Be that Ryan Cohen again. Investors deserve it… and have earned it by supporting you blindly for two plus years. Note: A spokesperson for Ryan Cohen didn't return Yahoo Finance's request to make Ryan Cohen available for an interview for this piece. ******************
Ouch. Brian didn't pull his punches and he's absolutely right about the earnings calls. Eight minutes? That's ridiculous. There's no trust on Wall Street. Analysts have bosses and bosses hate surprises because investors hate (mostly) surprises.
And over at $EXPI, the stock gapped up. The squeeze continues to play out...
Have a great day and a great weekend! Thanks for stopping by.

2023.06.09 16:38 crappy_gilmore Watch Tesla's New Live Video For "Miles Away" From New Album
| https://xsrock.com/watch-teslas-new-live-video-for-miles-away-from-new-album/ TESLA is a notorious band for one thing; being a high-energy, 100% live, kick-ass rock and roll band in concert! FULL THROTTLE LIVE captures this essence from a stop at the Sturgis Bike Rally in the year 2022 at the infamous saloon that hosts many motorcycle rock and roll parties, and this inspired the band to put on even more of a heavy show. Independently recorded, mixed, and produced by bassist Brian Wheat and guitarist Frank Hannon, this new live album truly captures TESLA in pure honest form and even dives deeper into their roots by recording a live version of the 1974 Aerosmith classic “SOS Too Bad” as a bonus track. The heavier song choices range from “Miles Away!” to more recent hard releases like “Time to Rock!” and “Cold Blue Steel”. But don’t worry there are old TESLA classics captured too like “Changes” and “Lazy Days, Crazy Nights” all recorded as TESLA is best..100% FULL THROTTLE LIVE!“MILES AWAY” is the lead-off single release from TESLA’s new live album FULL THROTTLE LIVE! The guys chose to put this song out first because it represents TESLA and the new live album’s harder heavier sound. “MILES AWAY” is a fan favorite in concert with its heavy 6/8 rolling groove and blistering guitar solo. This is also an ironic song choice because the song lyrics are written about being a “rock star” on the road away from reality and missing home. Check out TESLA’s new live album FULL THROTTLE LIVE! You won’t be let down and MILES AWAY will take you there. https://preview.redd.it/kcuo46xl705b1.jpg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efef3516b4d3366528d5a0fe210cb4d3fac53775 submitted by crappy_gilmore to xsrock [link] [comments] |
2023.06.09 16:25 Gear4Vegito Taking a look at the Blue Jays AA Pitching Staff and other notes about Blue Jays SP prospects.
There has been a lot of talk recently about the lack of SP depth at AAA so I thought it would be a good time to dig deeper then that and highlight some names in AA (and lower) that might not be as far away as some would think. The AA rotation deserves a bit of a spotlight with the performances of some of the pitchers there.
There has been a lot of criticism of the organization drafting and developing of pitching prospects (much being very fair) but we really might now be seeing some of the results coming through.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have excluded a few guys who are years away from making a real impact who are below AA but I will make some notes on them.
Brandon Barriera (#2 Prospect) in A-Ball is looking very good and is being brought along slowly after his injury so has pitched just 13.1 IP.
Dahian Santos (#12 Prospect) in A-Ball might be the biggest sleeper pitcher in the organization. His fastball-slider combination is electric but is extremely raw overall as a pitcher. He is learning a changeup and is gaining muscle fast in order to take the next step in the organization.
CJ Van Eyk (N/R Prospect) still has the raw tools to be a good pitcher but has pitched just 7.0 IP over the last two seasons and is on the IL again.
Adam Macko, Yosver Zulueta, Hayden Juenger & Hagen Danner are honesty still very talented pitchers but all seem destined to be relief pitchers at this point in their development. This post focuses more on pitchers who have good odds of remaining as SP. Don't sleep on these guys though, they all have electric bullpen arms and might see some of them in our bullpen come next season.
In terms of the 2022 draft it is of course much too early but there are some really interesting names and notes:
Ryan Jennings (Round 4) who can throw 99 mph as a reliever and that seemed like his career path BUT has had surprisingly good results as an SP at the moment in A-Ball. Insane fastball-slider combo but needs a third pitch.
Mason Fluharty (Round 5) has been tearing through the minors and is already in AA as a reliever. Unique but effective cutter-slider combo. Rocking a sweet 1.25 ERA & 0.83 WHIP this season.
T.J. Brock (Round 6) dominated A+ in 20 IP to a tune of
1.77 ERA and is already in AA. Electric fastball-slider combo. Devereaux Harrison (9th Round) is an SP turned RP turned SP again in A+ with a 2.63 ERA. He struggled with his control as an RP but it has vastly improved as a starter.
Ian Churchill (Round 10), Pat Gallagher (Round 11), Nolan Perry (Round 12), Bo Bonds (Round 13) & Ryan Chasse (Round 17) are the others pitchers from the draft class but they are just getting things started but all look fine-to-good in small sample sizes in Rookie or Low A. The early returns on this draft class are really positive and probably deserve a spotlight post on its own.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
New Hampshire Fisher Cats Rotation: Ricky Tiedemann (Age 20): - 91st Overall in 2021 Draft // 1st Ranked Prospect
- 4.97 ERA / 1.62 FIP / 2.18 xFIP
- 16.34 K/9 - 4.97 BB/9 - 0.00 H9
- 1.26 WHIP & 0.205 OBA
We have all read dozens upon dozens of articles on this guy. There really isn't too much to say on Ricky. He has missed most of the season due to injury. He really is as good as advertised though with top of the rotation potential. His injury likely pushes he debut back until mid-way next year at best. He still needs to refine his control and get a little deeper into game. Be excited though, I do think his injury has killed a lot of the excitement people had in following the AA team which does still have an excellent staff...
Adam Kloffenstein (Age 22): - 88th Overall in 2019 Draft // N/R Prospect // Peaked @ #8 in 2018
- Nickname = King Kloff
- 3.12 ERA / 3.61 FIP / 3.37 xFIP
- 11.08 SO/9 - 3.81 BB/9 - 0.87 H9
- 1.29 WHIP & .231 OBA
Probably the biggest story from the Blue Jays minor leagues this year. A prospect who was once deemed a steal at his draft position who quickly become one of the better valued prospects in our system to falling off the map in 3 years and likely on his last chance to be a starter has become one of the most stable pitchers in the entire organization. A former power pitcher came into the year losing some mph on his velocity in order to get some proper control and it has paid off for him.
He leads the entire Eastern League in strikeouts & is second in innings pitched behind only a pitcher turning 27 this year. This season he has gone 5.0 IP+ in 8 straight starts now of which half have been a QS. He has allowed 0 ER or 1 ER in 7-of-10 starts. The Blue Jays in recent years have struggled developing pitchers who can pitch deep into games; coming into this season 6 of the 10 pitchers on the Blue Jays Top 30 list are very likely or already on their way to becoming RP; Zulueta, Macko, Juenger, Danner, Hernandez & Carter.
His strikeouts are up, his walks are down, his HR allowed are down, his BABIP is reasonable and his FIP is in range of ERA. He ranks near the top of the league in most statistics and only turns 23 later this year. He has been very consistent on top of everything. This is looking like a real breakthrough rather than a fluke.
The concern with him moving forward include avoiding losing much more velocity or he needs even more improved location to compensate as well trying to develop a third above average pitch as he currently heavily sticks with his effective two pitch combo. The Blue Jays will likely keep him in AA so he can continue to build confidence after 3 years of struggles but a run in AAA and becoming Major League starter depth next season is very much in play if he keeps it up.
He will very likely be added to the 40-Man this off-season with the team lacking SP depth there.
Paxton Schultz (Age 25): - 433rd Overall in 2019 Draft // N/R Prospect // Never Ranked
- 3.30 ERA / 3.07 FIP / 3.75 xFIP
- 10.49 K/9 - 3.69 BB/9 - 0.58 H9
- 1.32 WHIP & .236 OBA
As I was writing this Schultz actually had his AAA debut; pitching
5.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 BB & 6 SO in an excellent debut.
Schultz was not actually a Blue Jays draft pick...he was acquired from MIL as a PTBNL for Blue Jays legend Derek Fisher. May have won the trade all these years later. He has always been considered a "low-ceiling" prospect and always put together solid but unspectacular seasons which meant he never really caught the eye of scouts. This year he kind of has put everything together and went from career minor league player to someone who could be that 6th to 8th starter depth we have been really needing in the minors. He doesn't have overpowering stuff by any means but he is really smart and does not allow very much hard contact.
His numbers have been great across the board. Career bests in pretty much everything and has improved in his consistency from years past. He has allowed less than 2 ER in 8-of-10 AA starts. He has actually been a tad unlucky this season as well rocking a BABIP higher than his used to. He also tends to avoid very much disaster starters; in his career of 55 starts he has allowed 5 runs just 3 times (never more) and over the last 2 years has pitched under 4 innings just 3 times. Pretty much an ideal from a #5/#6 starter.
All this has earned him a promotion to AAA now where if he keeps up the same level of consistency he very likely works his way into becoming the teams 6th starter and likely finds himself on the 40-Man roster. If an injury occurs to the rotation Schultz might be the guy to fill in.
Sem Robberse (Age 21): - International Free Agent in 2019 // 6th Ranked Prospect // Peaked at 6th in 2022
- Nickname: The Pitching Dutchman
- 4.73 ERA / 4.96 FIP / 4.00 xFIP
- 9.45 K/9 - 3.38 BB/9 - 1.69 H9
- 1.18 WHIP & .217 OBA
Don't let the ERA fool you, he has had a much better season than that would suggest. At quick glance his WHIP and OBA are some of the best in the league. Most of the damage coming from an increase in HR allowed this season which is something he is trying to work on. Otherwise his numbers are on par with or better than they have before.
He is considered by many to be the smartest pitcher in the organization. He spent most of COVID studying pitching sequencing and strategies needed for a pitcher. Dude has zero ego to his game and embraces being taught which makes him loved in the organization. Robberse is one of the prospects that we will see play for the Blue Jays one day, whether it will be as a mid-rotation pitcher or as the odd spot stater remains to be see. Probably the "safest" starting prospect in the organization.
He has 5 pitches with his slider and curve be his good ones and throws some decent heat at 92 mph+ but one of his goals is too increase that. He was at 185 lbs last season and is aiming to get over 200 in hopes of increasing his velocity as well as help with his durability although he is already a rather good innings eater being behind Koff.
His major concern is when he does lose control he starts getting hit very hard...which doesn't happen all too often but something he is trying to cut back on. There is a legit claim for him to be the organizations #2 pitching prospect.
Chad Dallas (Age 22): - 121st Overall in 2021 // N/R Prospect // Peaked at 28th in 2022
- Nickname: Cheese
- A+: 2.03 ERA / 3.09 FIP / 3.71 xFIP w/ 0.94 WHIP & .146 OBA (12.49 SO/9 - 4.05 BB/9 - 0.3 H9)
- AA: 2.42 ERA / 3.76 FIP / 4.52 xFIP w/ 0.85 WHIP & .128 OBA (8.06 SO/9 - 3.63 BB/9 - 0.40 H9)
This is the dude to be excited about and his seemly quick and easy transition into AA which is considered to be the hardest jump for a pitcher in the minors is only more reasons to be excited. In his 5 A+ starts he allowed just 6 ER in 26.2 IP...4 of those 6 came in a single bad start 4.2 IP...he dominated with easy in his other 4 starts which earned him the quick promotion. He loves to just pound the zone and go after hitters.
It is easy to see where his success comes from. Having 4 pitches all very decent including a nasty, nasty slider...a very good curveball, a fastball that touches 95 mph and a changeup he is working on heavily. His control is what really hurt him last year but he has for the most part vastly improved in the matter.
His AA debuts was one of the best I have seen: 7.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 2 BB & 9 SO. Since then he had three more starts; one where he lost his command in struggled and another 2 dominating outings where he has allowed 1 total ER in 11.0 IP. There was a lot of "bullpen" risk when he was drafted but he put a lot of that to rest with having no trouble hitting 5-7 IP constantly this season. In his 9 starts he has gone 5.0 IP in 7 of them with the other two falling short (4.1 / 4.2 ) due to struggles not stamina.
He does struggle against LHP hitters and it is something to monitor. His two big outlier blunder starts this season were with lineups that were lefty heavy. Which is the main reason for him wanting to improve his changeup. His cutter and curveball are killer against RHH but don't have the same effect on LHH.
If he does not rocket up prospect boards this season then I have no idea what scouts are looking for anymore.
Trenton Wallace (Age 24): He hasn't pitched in AA yet but was the one who got the call-up to replace Shultz. He is on the older side but was just drafted in 2021. Has caught the attention of scouts with his performance in A+ but AA will be the big test for him. Cruised through A+ with a
1.79 ERA / 3.20 FIP / 4.18 xFIP with an elite WHIP of 0.82 and 0.155 OBA. There is a good chance we are talking about him a long with the rest of the successful AA pitchers in month time.. A mid- 90's fastball and mesmerizing slider is what gets the job done for him. 5 of his 8 starts he allowed exactly 0 ER including an outing where he thew 5 perfect innings. He is looking like a massive steal being drafted in the 11th round of the 2021 draft.
The other name in AA are
Jimmy Robbins (Age 25); he was very solid last season in between A+/AA but was a tad over-age and now in his full season in AA has lost the strike-zone and is averaging
6.65 BB/9 which has lead to a ERA of 5.40. Even with his success last season; never really caught the eyes of scouts and wasn't protected in the Rule 5 draft even though some fans argued he should. Seems to have been the right call. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tiedemann - Kloffenstein - Robberse - Dallas (+Wallace) might be the best rotation we have had in a single level of the minors in a very long time. All are no older than 22 as well so even with some bumps in the road they have time on their hands. All 4 are going to be very exciting to monitor.
Paxton Schultz is also worth watching as he might have leap frogged his way right into the 6th SP role with other options in AAA falling apart or being converted to relievers.
Our upper minors pitching depth has been a big concern to fans but they depth coming from AA and below might soon change that.
Who wouldn't want a future rotation of King Kloff, The Pitching Dutchman, Cheese & Ricky Titty?!?

I will leave these articles for everyone to make their own conclusions on this one.

2023.06.09 14:33 CaspianX2 Cult of the Lamb for Nintendo Switch - Review
Genre: Action-RPG / Roguelike / Management Simulation
Players: 1
.
Review:
Cult of the Lamb, released in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, is an Action-RPG with strong Roguelike and Management Simulation elements. In this game, players take the role of a small anthropomorphic lamb about to be sacrificed in a ritual intended to and the looming threat of an ancient deity known as The Waiting One. However, the ritual ends up having the opposite effect, sending the lamb to The Waiting One, who resurrects the lamb with the instruction of starting a cult to worship him, and giving the lamb the ability to slaughter those who killed them.
Right from the start, Cult of the Lamb is a game that combines extreme opposites. The lamb and their growing lineup of followers are absolutely adorable, depicted with wide eyes and voiced in a cutesy babble-speak. Yet, your character will violently slaughter your enemies and desecrate their corpses, communes with his ancient god by having his eyes glow red and start bleeding, routinely “indoctrinates” new followers into their cult, can make those followers eat grass or excrement, or even make their own followers into blood sacrifices to achieve their goals. Yeah, this is the same sort of “adorable” we saw in games like
The Binding of Isaac, which is to say that this cuteness is only to make the game’s extremely dark content and tones seem even darker by contrast.
The presentation here is good, but isn’t without its flaws. The game is technically 3D, but all of its individual elements are in 2D, with the game using hand-drawn artwork for its characters and much of its scenery, with a somewhat crude art style and animation that works with its cutesy elements. However, despite how simple this game is on a technical level, I still noticed occasional issues with framerates and outright frame drops, at times so severe that it interfered with the gameplay. What’s more, the nature of the game’s 2D characters in a 3D environment made it difficult to distinguish whether or not a melee attack would connect, making this element of the gameplay less than satisfying. This is all backed by by an interesting if somewhat unsettling mix of odd vocal and simple instrumental melodies, which is distinct and works well with the game’s offbeat overall tone.
The gameplay here is split between Roguelike Action-RPG sections and Management Simulation sections, and these all have their strengths and weaknesses. The combat in this game has some good variety, and feels fairly fluid, but it suffers from the hit detection and framerate issues I mentioned above, and while it’s not outright
bad, it doesn’t reach the same heights as the other half of the game.
When it comes to the Management Simulation elements, Cult of the Lamb’s approach to the genre feels really refreshing, as you’re trying to build up your facilities and gain resources while also managing the members of your cult themselves. You’ll be ensuring that they have adequate food, cleaning up after them when they poop or die to ensure the remaining members don’t suffer from disease, assigning them to jobs to help around your facility, and also managing their level of faith, which can be sapped to further your progression through the various skill trees, enabling you access to more facilities you can build, empowering your character as they trek into the game’s Action-y Roguelike elements.
Unfortunately, you have limited resources in your cult’s home camp and must eventually head back out into the Roguelike portions of the game, and this is frustrating not only because this is the less-interesting part of the game you feel like you’re reluctantly trudging through, but also because time keeps passing while you’re out adventuring, meaning that your peoples’ food supplies will continue to dwindle until your cult members starve, and waste will build up with no one cleaning it.
If this game allowed multiplayer, I could see this making for a good division of duties as one players stays to maintain the cult while the other heads off to fight enemies and gather resources. However, no such multiplayer exists in this game, and as a result every time you feel like you have to tear yourself away from your facility, you may well be wishing someone else could be doing that while you continue doing what you were doing.
As a result of this, Cult of the Lamb feels like a somewhat unbalanced game. There are some very good elements here, wrapped in a distinct and memorable package, but the sub-par combat portions of the game and the performance issues on Nintendo Switch mean you’re probably better off going to another game that does just one of these elements well, such as
Hades, or a game that mixes Action-RPG Roguelike and Management Simulation elements better but without the same sort of distinctive presentation, such as
Moonlighter. There’s still a lot of good to be found here, but I feel like the flaws in this game rob it of the opportunity to be on the same level as games like those.
tl;dr – Cult of the Lamb is an Action-RPG with strong Roguelike and Management Simulation elements, in which players take the role of a lamb charged with managing a cult to worship an ancient deity, while heading out to gather resources and slaughter enemies. The presentation and Management Sim parts of this game are original and quite enjoyable, but the Action-RPG sections of the game are less successful thanks to issues with unclear hit detection and this game’s performance on Nintendo Switch. While there’s still plenty to enjoy here, I feel like there are other games that manage to do the individual elements of this game better, even if there’s nothing else that offers quite the same overall package. Grade: B-

2023.06.09 12:51 House_of_Suns /r/QOTSA Official Band of the Week 23: KING BUFFALO
So when you think of cities with
high culture and vibrant music scenes on the east coast, what springs to mind? Obviously New York. Thanks to Drake, we all know about the growing music scene in Toronto. You
prahbahbly musta tawt a Bawstan tew. Maybe Montreal or Philadelphia or even Baltimore crossed your mind.
Hah.
Baltimore. Time to check your cultural bias, pal. You passed over a quiet little city on the south shore of Lake Ontario, nestled in the Genesee River valley. It has a history as a hotbed of Abolitionism and Women’s Rights. It is the home of Eastman Kodak, Xerox, Bausch & Lomb, Western Union, Ragu and other innovative companies. It has a lively music scene, great nightclubs, world-renowned universities, thriving museums, arts & culture festivals, and live theatre. It is a true cultural gem that many folks overlook.
Yep. You bet
your ass I am talking about Rochester, New York.
Since we know that Stoner Rock can come from anywhere, it should be no surprise that Rochester has produced one of the leading bands in this genre. This week we are going to check out a band you are going to want to listen to. If you know them, you love them. If you haven’t heard of them, you are going to thank me.
This week’s band is
KING BUFFALO. About Them Hold on a sec. King Buffalo? Not King Rochester?
To be fair,
King Rochester sounds like the villain in a Disney movie. Kinda hard to imagine that on a T-Shirt. King New York sounds like a particularly
obnoxious Yankees fan (and yeah, finding a Yankees fan that isn’t obnoxious is a tough go). King Albany sounds like a car made by
Kia. But
King Buffalo? That just works.
Our heroes didn’t start out together. King Buffalo were made up of members of two other Rochester area bands.
Randall Coon and Scott Donaldson were playing together in Velvet Elvis. That five piece band played heavy rock with space-based themes in the early 2010’s. Sean McVay and Dan Reynolds were in another band called Abandoned Buildings Club (side note: kinda neat that their initials were ABC), who had a pure psychedelic rock vibe. When both VE and ABC appeared to be having limited success, the four musicians decided to merge their talents into one band. Coon had handled vocals and guitar in
Velvet Elvis and
Donaldson had been rock solid on drums. McVay had done vocals and guitar in
Abandoned Buildings Club and Reynolds had anchored the sound with his bass. All the pieces were there for a classic Beatles-esque lineup.
So out of the wreckage of ABC and VE, KB arose. The four members gelled so well that they were able to record their first demo - aptly titled
Demo - in just two days. Their sound was immediately compared to tourmates and close friends All Them Witches. But where ATW were bluesy and sludgy, King Buffalo had produced songs
full of space. Oh, there were heavy riffs for sure - but there were passages of music that were contrastingly lighter and further apart. The best example of these contrasts can be found in the more than 11 minutes of
Providence Eye. The first six and a half minutes come at you at a lulling pace, enveloping you in the moment. You get swept up in the rolling riffs. But then the drop happens and you suddenly realize the song has been building to this peak. The tempo picks up and you ride a
relentless rollercoaster until you hit the Black Sabbath-inspired outro, which takes you home. It is an emotional experience. The two other tracks -
In Dim Light and
Pocket Full of Knife are smaller essays on the same theme.
It was clear right from
Demo that King Buffalo had some serious talent. But if you have listened to the band you will notice that one thing is starkly different on
Demo than from any of their other releases: the vocals. Randall Coon was the lead vocalist on these recordings. If you play them up against anything since by the band they stand out. Our very own QotSA may have successfully had multiple vocalists on multiple tunes, but King Buffalo was destined to have Sean McVay take over the mic. Shortly after 2013’s
Demo, Coon left the band to do a solo project called
Skunk Hawk. King Buffalo stood at a crossroads: did they look to replace Coon, or should they carry on as a Power Trio? The choice for them was obvious. McVay, Reynolds and Donaldson knew that they had fantastic potential together. They decided they didn't need anyone else.
Side note: Regular readers of these write ups know that All Them Witches just went through this exact crisis in 2019. What I didn’t share then is that ATW are close friends with KB. I would not be surprised to learn that ATW had some serious conversations about their lineup with the boys from KB before they, too, decided last year to pare down to just three members.
To re-christen their new lineup, in 2015 King Buffalo
went in on a split EP with Swedish band LĂ© Betre (I mean, hooking up with a
Swedish partner is a dream of mine, so I see the appeal.) They re-recorded their standout tune
Providence Eye with McVay on vocals, as well as two new tracks -
Like a Cadillac and
New Time. New Time opens their side of the EP with an infectious, descending riff that hooks you immediately. It is clear from the lyrics -
No wasting around, it’s a new time - that they had moved on from Coon.
Like a Cadillac follows up and is a three and a half minute jam that leaves you wanting more. The re-recorded version of
Providence Eye closes out their side of the split EP and leaves no doubt that they are in charge. It is a tighter,
heavier version, and the amazing outro is so low down that it will make you want to rob your own house.
With their lineup now set, it was time to put together enough music to tour on. In 2016, King Buffalo released
Orion. Here you can witness the melding of their influences into something majestic and fantastic, and it is here that they really develop their signature style.
To explain this style, you need to understand basic song structure.
Most pop songs tend to go
verse - chorus - verse - chorus - bridge - chorus - chorus. Sure, you could add in a solo for the bridge, or a detailed intro or outro, or another verse - but this is a tried and true formula. Some variation of this dominates the pop charts to this day.
Not with King Buffalo songs. These guys are the masters of the drop, and you hear it in most of their tunes. QotSA fans are no strangers to that long build and release; it is an integral part of tunes like
The Evil Has Landed, God is in the Radio, Song For The Dead, and
I Appear Missing. One of the sickest drops ever recorded happens in the middle of the Them Crooked Vultures tune
No One Loves Me & Neither Do I. It is where the music turns around, and a new riff takes over, often along with a pace change. It is then that you realize that the song has built to this climactic moment, and you are engulfed by the music.
King Buffalo does this better than anyone else, and you hear it clearly articulated, again and again, on the album
Orion. Take the song
Kerosene for example.
A rolling bass riff from Reynolds establishes the song right out of the gate. Donaldson produces punchy drum beats with cymbal crashes at the end of each phrase. McVay’s slide guitar rounds out the intro. McVay’s vocals - very Ozzy like, if
Ozzy had any semblance of self-control - frame the first verse, which ends in a fuzzy, heavy riff with crashing cymbals. This same pattern is repeated a second time and the drop is teased at just past three minutes in, but does not happen quite yet. The listener’s anticipation builds as the airy, soaring solo from McVay calls out in contrast to the rolling bass. After the guitar solo bridge, the band goes right back into the chorus. But then it happens:
THE DROP. Just past 5 minutes in, the song takes a complete and abrupt turn for a totally different riff that is at the same time heavier and brand new, and yet has been there all the while.
What King Buffalo does brilliantly is subvert your musical expectations.
The standard structure is V-C-V-C-B-C-C.
Kerosene is V-C-V-C-B-C-DROP-OUTRO. Just when you subliminally expect something the same, you get something different.
The entire album is like that.
Orion hardly sounds like a debut. It is a mature and deliberate soundscape built by talented musicians who are making significant choices about their art. Songs like
Drinking From The River Rising open with an expansive and elastic topography, but drill down to the
molten lava of heavy riffs and distorted fuzz.
Sleeps On A Vine begins with one of the most zen riffs you’ve ever heard and ends in a tumultuous and heavy sonic assault that is pure
controlled chaos. Every song on the album is a study in contrasts that leaves you with auditory whiplash and a burning desire for more.
They are that good.
King Buffalo were able to tour on their new material, and did so extensively. They played clubs and larger venues, often with friends and fellow Stoner Rockers All Them Witches and other bands like The Sword and Elder. In 2017, the released the EP
Repeater as a follow up. It is just three songs (The vinyl ad reads,
All songs on one side! No need to flip!) but it is a heck of a musical journey. The title track off the EP is 13+ minutes long and is one huge build. When the fuzz finally drops after almost 8 minutes, it is a true cathartic moment. It sneaks up on you, and is so welcome when it hits - especially after McVay’s repetition that “Every Day is the Same* - that you intrinsically understand how great it is when things finally change for the better.
Too Little Too Late is an instrumental tune that is both enveloping and expansive. It is a terrific bridge to the final track,
Centurion, which is an
unbelievable groove. Centurion has three minutes of set up leading to an unreal fuzzy drop that is so dirty it will get you evicted from your apartment.
The influence of their touring with All Them Witches can also be seen on their next full length release, 2018’s
Longing To Be The Mountain. Ben McLeod from ATW produced the album. ATW, The Sword and Elder are all thanked in the liner notes. The album picks up right where
Repeater leaves off, with KB experimenting with long form songs like
Morning Song and the title track, and shorter jams like
Sun Shivers, Cosmonaut, and
Quickening. Reynolds and McVay pepper the songs with synthesizer sounds that add colour and texture to the overall compositions. Donaldson drums with impeccable precision to provide each song with a safe mooring to return to, driving the guitars forward at the same time as he holds the rhythm in check. This is most clearly evident in
Eye Of The Storm. The result is a rich tapestry of expansive and flowing music full of
heavy jams and
storytelling that will leave the listener wanting more. Their signature build-to-sonic-explosion style does not let fans down.
The success of
Longing To Be The Mountain allowed for extensive touring across North America and Europe. It also led to appearances at bigger gigs, like at Rockpalast and the Stoned & Dusted desert rock event in 2019. Anyone that has seen any of their live work knows that King Buffalo are
simply hypnotizing on stage. Reynolds’ bass work is reminiscent of Geddy Lee with his complex and flowing style. Donaldson brings controlled power to the drum kit, and is ready to cut loose when the drop comes. And McVay has become a true front man, comfortable with the lead voice on guitar and the microphone.
Their next release,
Dead Star, dropped in 2020 and generated all kinds of buzz in the Stoner Rock scene. Of course, the tour planned to support it got axed when the entire world went into
lockdown. But the (short album? EP?) is simply fantastic.
Red Star Pt. 1 & 2 continues their long form examination and has everything you’d expect from them.
Echo of A Waning Star is a lament of just over 3 minutes that is near-perfect.
Ecliptic sounds like the soundtrack to a John Carpenter movie and is a complete jam with serious cool 1980’s vibes.
Dead Star, the title track, is almost Radiohead-esque in its evocative and regretful take on death and decay.
But the standout track has to be
Eta Carinae, which has one of the greatest musical drops and turn-arounds you will ever hear. The entire song
pivots just past four minutes in and becomes a 70’s anthem worthy of Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath. If you listen to no other tune here today, you have to check it out. It will absolutely get stuck in your head.
The band dropped their first live record,
Live At Freak Valley, in 2020. This is a really nice retrospective/greatest hits album kinda deal. What stands out is just how fucking
tight the band is live. With some bands, live versions veer
wildly from the recorded ones - and not at all in a good way. This record is the opposite. You can clearly hear on
Orion and
Kerosene that KB are just that good live.
In the wake of the global pandemic, King Buffalo decided to musically capture the moment in time. They decided to release a trifecta of albums. 2021 saw them drop
The Burden of Restlessness and then
Acheron. The third record in this trio is 2022’s
Regenerator. It is really important to consider all three records in this Triptych at the same time, for they are a sonic cycle.
TBOR is a
descent into despondency. Acheron is about hitting
rock bottom, and being in Hell.
Regenerator is about finding a way to claw yourself
back into the light. Each album stands on its own, but together they form a sweeping epic journey that we can all relate to.
TBOR is an album where the protagonist gradually
loses the will to exist. There is a cry of deep frustration in
Burning, a not-so-subtle reference to a plague in
Locusts, a study in being confined indoors in
Silverfish, and an outright statement that our hero is sinking in
Loam. In fact, the lyrics tell us: “Still I press my face into the ground/I’m waiting for the hammer to fall.”
It is not a happy album. Just when you think things have to get better, we get the 4-track jam of
Acheron. In this record, our hero has fallen to his lowest point. He has
descended to Hell. The title track - the first one on the album - makes this clear, when it says: “Waking up under the ground/Silver asleep on my tongue.”
Just in case you didn’t get the classic reference, Acheron is the river one must cross in Greek mythology to get to the underworld. Souls going to Hell had coins placed in their mouth to pay
Charon, the ferryman, to take them across the river to Hades. So our hero did sink into the Loam in the last album, and finds himself in Hell. This theme is reinforced in
Zephyr, who was the Greek God of the West Wind, and
Shadows, which references what the Greeks used to call dead spirits - Shades. And just in case you had any doubt, the final track on the album is
Cerberus, named after the
three-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades. What is even cooler about
Acheron is how it was recorded. Instead of a studio, they recorded the album underground in a cave.
Now that is
commitment. The final album in this cycle is 2022’s
Regenerator. While the first two records were about descent, despondency, and
hitting rock bottom, this record is about regaining hope and optimism, and finding
a way to come back. We hear this clearly in the lyrics of the record’s final track,
Firmament, which says: “Out of the loam I rise, embraced by the etheThe river below relieves my hands of silver” - clearly calling back to the tracks
Loam and
Acheron. And in case you didn’t know, in Greek mythology the Firmament means
the Sky or the Heavens. Our hero has left Hell behind, and
ascended into Heaven. References to positive mythology are all over this album, from the album art to the tracks
Mercury and
Avalon. It is a
total jam. But the best song on the album might just be
Mammoth. If you don’t like the guitar on this song, you and I can’t be friends.
I got a chance to see KB perform last year when they toured with Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. They are
fucking tight. They were the opening act, but were the absolute highlight of the show. I want everyone to hear this band because they really are something special.
Go check them out.
Links to QOTSA We know that QotSA front man Josh Homme and Kyuss invented Stoner Rock in the 1990’s. They were the genre-defining band. King Buffalo (and other bands like All Them Witches) have picked up this proverbial torch and are now bringing the sound to the next generation of fans. King Buffalo drummer Scott Donaldson is known to be a huge QotSA fan. Perhaps he saw them live when they played in
Rochester in 2014 in support of
...Like Clockwork. It is also sometimes easy to forget that Josh was not the only architect of the low desert sound. Original Kyuss Drummer and co-founder Brant Bjork wrote many Kyuss tunes and continues to be a leader in the music scene today. King Buffalo have played with Bjork at festivals three times: Freak Valley Festival, Black Deer Festival and the aforementioned Stoned & Dusted. There is also a planned collaborative project between Bjork and King Buffalo that may be coming our way soon.
The future is
bright, my friends.

2023.06.09 08:27 Wodashit API Changes and /r/physics and /u/askphysics action, please read.
Dear
/physics and
/askphysics communities,
You might be aware of the recent changes in the Reddit API policies, namely, last 18 April, Reddit
announced it would begin charging for access to its API leading to third party applications to become unaffordable due to the price of the API access, this includes several third party apps, including
Toolbox and
RES. This sparked a discussion and a movement from several large subreddits to go dark, going private, on the 12th of June for at least 48 hours.
Reddit admins have promised minimal disruption with their recent changes. However, this is yet another promise to moderators and the community at large.
- In 2015, in response to widespread protests on many subs,, the admins promised they would build tools and improve communication with mods.
- In 2019, the admins promised that chat would always be an opt-in feature. However, a year later, an unmoderated chat feature was made a default feature on most subreddits.
- In 2020, in response to moderators protesting racism on Reddit, admin promised to support mods in combating hate.
- In 2021, again, in response to protests, Reddit's admins promised a feature to report malicious interference by subreddits promoting Covid denial.
- In 2022, Reddit finally took action against and banned or quarantined subreddits supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine after community outcry.
Reddit's admin has certainly made progress. In 2020, they
updated the content policy to ban hate and in 2021 they
banned and quarantined communities promoting covid denial. But while the company has updated their policies, they have not sufficiently invested in moderation support and support for site navigation at large.
(thanks to
/europe for the above text that summarizes a lot of the discussions)
As a mod team we always acted in a concerted, observing majority vote, trying to keep the users as the main focus when taking decisions, this time it is no different and given the implication of our decision we would like to let the community decide what path to take. We offer you the choice between three options
- 1: Do not go dark but pin a post about the issue during the duration of the Blackout/Until changes are made
- 2: Go dark for the duration of the blackout 12th for 48 hours (exact start time in UTC will be given)
- 3: Go dark 12th for at least 48 hours (exac start time in UTC will be given) and stay dark until changes have been obtained
A few words about the options, 1 is a tame option, while 2 carries some weight the subreddit will be back after 48 hours, option 3 however carries much more weight, in the event of reddit not caving to the demands,
/physics would go dark indefinitely until demands are met.
Please, consider your choice before voting, your vote matters.

This is still an unfolding situation still but we think it is still important to ask for your decision and to go through given the fact that the last developments are not great for the users and developers.
We would like to also take the opportunity to thank all of you that spend considerable time scouring for news and make high quality posts/comments/content that fits both the subreddits and thank you for participating.
Please, once again, consider your choice before voting, and vote, your vote matters.
