2023.06.09 22:52 Jotheprez Brother (20M) Losing Child Support bc of Father's Lack of Payment
Hi, all! My family is dealing with some stuff that I'm hoping to get help on. For context, my brother (20M - I'll call him B) and I (22NB) are from Missouri, which is where the child support is enforced. Because of Missouri's laws, children are entitled to child support from the non-custodial parent (for us, this is my father (50M)) until they are 21 years old, get married, or are not enrolled in school for 6 months -- whichever comes first.
My father is required to pay $600/mo child support for just my brother, but he hasn't paid since mid-November of 2022. He is now behind >$4k. Additionally, a court order requires that he pays 2/3 of all education costs (among other things he's not paying, but this is the focus of this situation). B was in classes at a local community college in the fall of 2022, but was unable to enroll for the spring because of outstanding fines/tuition that my father hadn't paid. We expected the issue to be resolved by now, planning for him to just enroll for the summer term to avoid the whole 6mo mess.
Except, that hasn't happened. No child support, no tuition, no nothing. Instead, I had to loan my brother ~$900 that I really didn't have so that he could pay off the school. Unfortunately, there were some miscommunications on the CC's end and the tuition hold wasn't released in the time that his CC said it would be, so he can't enroll in classes anymore. Which now means that he'll have been out of school for 6 months.
B's birthday isn't until October, so this is nearly 5 months worth of child support my family would be losing -- and can't afford to lose. The only reason he hasn't been in classes is because of my father. There is no job in the way, no relationship issues, no nothing. It is only because of my father.
It seems ridiculous to me that, in not paying child support or his legally obligated educational expenses, he's able to get out of paying child support, but I am more unfamiliar with child support stuff than I wish I was. I just want my family to be okay, but I don't know what to do. We're low-income, so going to a lawyer is only an option if we know it's worth it / we would win.
Is what he's doing legal? Is there any recourse that we can take that would protect his child support until his 21st birthday? What can we do here?

2023.06.09 22:51 amon_yao I think I'm depressed because of where I am in life.
A little funny when I wrote that out and read it. But it's the truth. I work full time at this stupid job with my brother and my close friends. We always seem to get the short end of the stick , too much to go into but that's what it always comes down too. I'm 24 years old , in college majoring in psychology. I love psychology but as a major , I just don't know anymore. I hate my job. Everyday I get into a sour mood and am cold to everyone. I hate where I am in life. What should I do? I always look on indeed and other jobs but nothing seems better then what I'm doing now. I hate it. I sometimes think this can't be life. I go home and I cry. The only time I feel this way is when I'm at work.

2023.06.09 22:51 stellarnymphet Post Update: I got the scholarships anyways
Hey guys, I wanted to come here after making
this post a few months ago when I was in the thick of schoolwork stress, financial stress, and applying for scholarship stress on top of that. I was feeling super discouraged as a non-traditional student about applying for much-needed scholarships because I am so busy with school and work that I don't really have time for extra stuff on the side that I felt like I needed to be impressive enough.
I wanted to thank everyone that left me supportive comments. You guys really helped me and made me feel like it wasn't a lost cause.
I still have a couple I am waiting to hear back on but the amount of scholarships I received so far really shook me.
Iv gotten five so far, totaling $9,000 over the next two semesters. Where I go to school that will make a big dent in my expenses.
So if you're feeling the same way please don't give up hope! Just apply for the damn thing!

2023.06.09 22:51 lilmonstergrl Question for American Con photographers (staff or freelance.)
TLTR- is it normal for cons to take advantage of their staff photographers by having them work for free.
Hi I'm a midwest con (NO ryan Kopf cons.) photographer. I had my first con that I photographed this year and it was amazing I work on the staff of anime detour and got to meet and work with amazing team that works on helping each other grow as photographers. Now I did this for free as kind of a trade off as the con was giving tickets to a club at my college for free. Working with the other photographers 3 were payed and the rest were staff meaning they got their ticket covered and possible a room if they worked so many hours. which isn't to bad and I don't mind but after talking to a few staff members was told I should be ask for payment going forward ( I have more event experience and do video as well.)
Now this is were my question comes in for the Staff or freelance photographers,
Do a lot of you get payment for photographing these events and if so how do you go about getting those kind of contracts? Are more cons on the coast areas more willing to pay is this just a mid west con issues? Do photographers charge people at cons as freelancers as a way to make income at the cons?
Ive ran into a few cons in the midwest were they want to "hire" a photographer but then want me to pay for the badge at full cost and then work the whole weekend and then turn over all my work unedited.
Were other ones offer a room and a badge cover if you work 40 hrs which is nice but when you add in the time I have to edit and cull and everything else I may need to do that gets a bit costly and the fact that they want me to work the whole time takes a bit of fun out of it.

2023.06.09 22:51 fungenerat0r I feel like I’m leeching off my partner (M28), who’s a rich and popular actor. (M30)
My partner and I have been together for a while and we’re really great together, I have no doubt that he loves me. But in the recent years, his career skyrocketed. He’s an actor, people recognize him, he keeps going to various events and he earns more than we both need. Which is something I never have or never will earn.
My family were immigrants, I spent my childhood being abused and doing drugs, I didn’t even finish school. I only had an opportunity to go to college a couple of years ago. And only because my partner paid for it. My current job is fine and I enjoy it but it’s not a stable income. And while I could make a comfortable living out of this, we wouldn’t have the life or the house we have now if it weren’t for my partner and his income.
So sometimes it just makes me feel pathetic and like a leech or something. And like I don’t deserve him and he can do so much better than me. Especially that he meets so many attractive and successful people all the time. I don’t even compare to them. So I guess I just need help with figuring out how to make myself feel better or how to make it up to my partner.

2023.06.09 22:49 throwaway--guy I'm just bored with life
I[M20] am just so bored with life. I have fun, friends, and family but am just so bored. It's probably because I've surrounded myself with the phantasmal by being obsessed with anime and stories in general all my life. It's gotten to the point where I actually really want to die, not for some morbid or sad reason, life is just so boring and the closest thing to the phantasmal unknown we have is beyond death. The curiosity of what's after life is just so fascinating that it just sounds so much more exciting than life. I can't talk about this with anyone because they'd think I'm crazy and they'd get worried. I honestly don't know what to do. I've been hooked on weed these past few months because it just makes the lackadaisical days go by. I just feel tired and done with life, after graduating highschool and being in college now it feels like I'm done, like the movie is over and yet I'm still here sitting in the theater.

2023.06.09 22:48 Joadzilla Trump aide Walt Nauta indicted in classified documents case
https://edition.cnn.com/2023/06/09/politics/walt-nauta-trump-indicted/index.html
An aide to former President Donald Trump has been indicted in special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the mishandling of classified documents from the Trump White House.
Walt Nauta’s indictment is the second in the special counsel’s investigation. Trump has been indicted on 37 counts, which include charges relating to the willful retention of national defense information, according to the indictment, which was unsealed on Friday.
Nauta faces six counts, including several obstruction- and concealment-related charges stemming from the alleged conduct.
Prosecutors allege that Nauta lied to investigators when he was interviewed by the FBI in May 2022, according to the indictment. He allegedly falsely said he was not aware of boxes being brought to Trump’s residence for his review before Trump provided 15 boxes to the National Archives in 2022.
But Nauta himself had helped move boxes from the storage room to Trump’s residence, according to the indictment.
“When asked whether he knew where Trump’s boxes had been stored, before they were in Trump’s residence and whether they had been in a secure or locked location, Nauta falsely responded, ‘I wish, I wish I could tell you. I don’t know. I don’t – I honestly just don’t know,’” the indictment states.
The indictment states that between November 2021 and January 2022, Nauta and another Trump employee brought boxes from the Mar-a-Lago storage room to Trump’s residence at the former president’s direction.
“Nauta did in fact know that the boxes in Pine Hall had come from the Storage Room, as Nauta himself, with the assistance of Trump Employee 2, had moved the boxes from the Storage Room to Pine Hall; and Nauta had observed the boxes in and moved them to various locations at The Mar-a-Lago Club,” the indictment states.
An attorney for Nauta declined to comment earlier Friday. Nauta was with Trump at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club this week.
Trump responded to Nauta’s indictment on his social media Friday, writing, “They are trying to destroy his life, like the lives of so many others, hoping that he will say bad things about ‘Trump.’ He is strong, brave, and a Great Patriot. The FBI and DOJ are CORRUPT!”
Nauta’s involvement in the movement of boxes of classified material at Trump’s Florida resort had been a subject of scrutiny of investigators. Nauta, with the help of a maintenance worker at Mar-a-Lago, moved the boxes before the FBI executed a search warrant on the Palm Beach property last August.
According to court filings last year, the FBI found more than 100 documents marked as classified during the search, which took place weeks after a Trump lawyer signed a statement attesting that the Trump team had complied with a May subpoena seeking production of all documents with classified markings.
Investigators obtained surveillance footage showing Nauta and the worker moving boxes of the classified documents around the resort, CNN previously reported. Nauta had spoken to investigators repeatedly in the probe, at first telling them he hadn’t handled boxes or sensitive documents at Mar-a-Lago.
Once the surveillance footage was turned over, however, Nauta changed his story, CNN previously reported, and, after changing attorneys, the aide stopped talking to investigators all together last fall.
The Wall Street Journal first reported Nauta’s indictment.

2023.06.09 22:48 KyleKKent Out of Cruel Space, Part 708
First Capes and Conundrums
Pavel stretches in the stillness. The tapping of the keyboard and swearing under the breath makes Pavel consider his new partner a bit. Silicon Blake has an interesting background. Pavel made a point of looking into it. The man was... genetically human, currently. But he had been born of a brain scan of a Tret man. Sionis Blake. The man’s father. Legally.
Silicon had made the jump from a fully synthetic body to a human clone body with dataports about two weeks ago. Freshly after his training as an Undaunted. Legally he was considered to still be both a Tret and a synthetic. But for all practical purposes, he was a human cyborg.
One who wasn’t used to the sheer requirements of his body. Pavel suspected a good chunk of his bad attitude was the fact the man was only eating once a day and only small portions.
The morning shift started shortly after breakfast and went right to lunch. So when Pavel went for lunch, he went alone at first before doubling back.
“Hey, we’re supposed to be together. Like it or not you’re coming with me to the mess hall.” Pavel says and the man groans in frustration and closes his computer.
“Fine, but I’m taking my damn work with me.” Silicon states as he stands.
“Fair enough.” Pavel states and the walk goes in silence. There’s a small, out of the way table near the edge of things and Silicon starts working again, only to be interrupted when Pavel comes back with two trays. “You’re not eating enough.”
“What? The hell is going on?” Silicon demands as Pavel forces him to take the laptop off the table and puts a tray full of food down in front of him.
“I looked up your medical profile...”
“Why?”
“Because humans can eat what other beings consider biohazards, and if we were going to have forced contact I didn’t want to accidentally kill you with onion breath. Which is something that can make a Feli very sick and cause a standard Tret to vomit.” Pavel explains.
“Okay...”
“However, I noted that you volunteered for the Endurance Program. An initiative to give other races more staying power akin to humans.”
“Yes, and it’s worked very well. I’ve nearly doubled my productivity.” Silicon says and Pavel nods.
“It did, however, you’re not feeding yourself enough. Your breakfast is big enough, for a breakfast. You need Lunch and Dinner too.”
“What?” Silicon demands.
“To put it in mechanical terms, you’re operating on emergency power. This cripples many major systems. You need to fuel up more consistently.” Pavel states before pointing to the loaded plate. “What I grabbed you is called a ham and cheese sandwich. To it’s side is kettle chips with sea salt, opposite is a garden salad and the cup of brown substance is a dessert called chocolate pudding. It’s a small lunch, but a decent one. Consider this the minimal intake.”
He then pulls out a pair of large water bottles and places them on the table. “You also need to hydrate more. Water is converted into the lubricant of your physicality and without it the whole system will fail.”
As Pavel had been speaking Silicon had pulled out a bioscanner and gone over everything before pausing on the salad. “Why is there an acid here?”
“You’ve got stronger stuff in your stomach. Turn that scanner on yourself.” Pavel says dismissively as he grabs his larger and much more loaded sandwich off his own plate. Three types of meat, hot mustard, lettuce of some kind and tomato with swiss cheese. Good stuff.
“Look, if this is some kind of ill conceived peace offering...”
“Peace nothing, you’re hangry half the time. Humans get aggressive in times of desperation. Basic instinct. You have that instinct now so even if you aren’t consciously looking for a fight, you’re ready to haul off on someone because you need food.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really. Now eat for god’s sake.”
“I’ve had breakfast. Two of those pancakes, a fruit cup and a glass of water. That’s plenty.”
“Nowhere near enough for breakfast. Let alone breakfast for someone in a high stress job. Besides, breakfast in only one of three meals.” Pavel counters and Silicon glares at him. “Seriously eat, it will help.”
Silicon gives him an odd look before grabbing his sandwich and taking a bite out of it. Pavel concentrates on eating his own much larger meal and he finishes within ten minutes. The spice in the mustard forced him to slow a little and he sits back to watch as Silicon goes at the pudding cup. For what the man claimed of not needing the food he outright inhaled it.
“So?” Pavel asks as Silicon finishes up taking a swig of his water. “Feel better?”
“... yes.” Silicon admits with his eyes screwed shut in frustration. “... I just thought it was Apex aggression not...”
“Hunger and desperation? You need thousands of calories a day. Also, don’t forget to use the bathroom when you need it. Our digestive tracts are powerful but not perfect. You will need to let it out.”
“really? You’re telling me to excrete? How simple do you think I am?” Silicon asks tartly.
“I think that you’re used to living in a body that required only energy and only have memories of a body that needed very little in the form of physical nourishment. So I’m not making any assumptions and telling you everything.” Pavel says as he finishes off his own water. “Now, I’ve got something to do. Our lunch break ends in a half hour and I’ll see you back at the test chamber for the remainder of that shift. Then we’re moving onto mine. I hope you’re ready to play spotter.”
“Oh goody. Using chemically propelled murder tools to NOT actually kill.”
“You have a problem with your orders?” Pavel asks him and he sighs.
“No. I’ll see you in a half hour.” Silicon says and Pavel nods before taking his own tray, then grabbing Silicon’s depleted one and taking them both out. “... Damnit, I hadn’t thought that humans would require so much damn food. I’m pulling in Axiom to feed, so why aren’t I being sustained?”
•וווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווווו
And it was back to the programming. Silicon was working faster and actually humming to himself a bit so that seemed alright. But not ideal. Pavel was really starting to get bored though. After yesterday’s test of things the drones had not been reactivated as Silicon seemed to be of the belief that things were a purely programming issue. If they were great, the problem is that there was no way of telling if things were just a programming issue or something mechanical.
Pavel pulls out his communicator and brings up the specs of the drones. They were basic, off the shelf prosthetic bodies designed to be piloted by a person, but a program in it’s place instead. They had been reinforced and upgraded a few times, but none of it seemed too egregious.
Similar codes and programming had been used in travelling shows and other such bits of entertainment to serve in the role that a minimum wage worker would slowly have their soul worn away doing. The repetitive, thankless tasks that need to be done over and over and over again.
Providing a low level opponent to be beaten in a fistfight or outsmarted by someone sneaking around shouldn’t be too hard. A videogame AI could get the behaviours down and then it was controlling the body.
Which was where Silicon and several other people were stuck. There was something wrong with their sense of balance and often they struggled to stay standing at all. All of them. Despite the code.
“If it was a gun I’d be checking it for cracks.” Pavel mutters to himself.
“What was that?” Silicon asks looking up from his laptop.
“All the drones are failing in the same way. You think it’s coding but... if it was a gun I’d be checking for structural damage.”
“These aren’t guns.”
“But both are machines. I think the hardware should be tested a bit. The coding has a lot of eyes on it. But the hardware?’
“The hardware was bought from a reputable source and passed their safety inspections.”
“Safety means that my necklace breaks if someone tries to strangle me with it.” Pavel says and Silicon pauses and looks up at him. Opens his mouth to say something then reconsiders and giving the nearest drone a look.
“Grab a toolkit. We’re taking it apart.” He says as he closes the laptop.
It takes five minutes to carefully take apart the chest of the drone and start examining the internal components.
“Here. These little gyroscopes are all over the place in the drone to give it a kinesthetic location sense. If you’re mentally linked to it then you can feel the direction of down from both gravity and the internal scope.” Silicon explains and Pavel gives one a tap. It does not move. “You have got to be kidding me.”
“Is this jammed?” Pavel asks as he pokes it again before reaching in with his fingers and feels... “There are metal filings in here. A dirty production line?”
When he removes his finger from thy gyroscope it moves easily in response. He brushes out a few shavings and Silicon is muttering something foul under his breath as he tests the other gyroscopes. One in every five of them are jammed in someway and after they clear out the chest they put the plating back on and move to the other limbs.
The pattern holds. One stuck internal gyroscope in every batch of five. It takes a full hour to clean out them all and give the internals of the drone some extra cleaning. It’s sealed back up again and Pavel is tightening the last screw as Silicon is tapping away at his laptop again.
“Okay! Take a step back. Let’s see if that helped.”
“If nothing else it’ll fail faster with it knowing which way to fall.” Pavel notes as he steps away and the drone activates. It sits upright the same as it could before and then turns over and stands upright. There was markedly less wobble this time and Silicon sends a command. It snaps it’s arms out and begins to turn.”
“Hey! That did it... shit. We need to clean out all the drones.” Silicon curses.
“We report this in and get fifty other guys to help, this is not a two man mission.” Pavel says wryly. “Not to mention the quartermaster is going to be looking to kill someone for having shit product forced on us. They do not take this shit lying down.”
“The sale’s rep will either be looking for a new job or finding a new fetish by the time those monsters are done with her.” Silicon notes. “Hey, think you’re ready to test it for fighting ability?”
“Sure thing.” Pavel says closing up the toolbox and then sliding it away with a foot. “Send it.”
“Alright, let’s test it’s tracking and offence. I need to dodge the attacks and move around the drone. Get it to follow you.” Silicon says sending the command and the Drone suddenly snaps it’s head towards Pavel and then turns as one. “That was a little stiff, I’m going to have to iron things out a little...”
The drone opens with an attempted haymaker and Pavel hops to the side and keeps going until he’s standing behind the drone. It follows him the whole time and then tries a cross. He fades back and takes a few steps away and it keeps pace as best it can.
As the drone goes for a grab he uses Axiom to leap clean over it and land on the other side then weaves to the side to avoid the snap kick as the logic tree self updates and the drone gets a fraction better at fighting.
“There we go! Living code! Finally!” Silicon cheers! “Start deflecting it’s attacks. Block and parry, I need to see how it responds to that.”
“Sure thing.” Pavel says and he swats away the next attempted haymaker.
“Interesting, okay, it’s correlating with that code chunk...” Silicon says as Pavel blocks two jabs boxer style and prevents it from grabbing onto him. “Hey that’s weird! Can you hit it back? Don’t break it or nothing, but see how it responds...”
“This good?” Pavel asks as he palm thrusts it in the middle of the chest and Silicon lets out a confused sound. The drone stumbles back in response to the light blow and regains it balance.
“Well how the hell did that happen? Do it again!” Silicon says as he squints at his screen.
Pavel rushes the drone and then gives it another, slightly firmer, smack in the middle of the chest. Silicon swears under his breath.
“This is weird! Alright, I’m deactivating the drone. Can you drop it off in it’s charging port?”
“Easy enough.” Pavel says as he catches the suddenly powered off robot and hefts it over his shoulder. It slots into it’s place easily and he walks over to where Silicon is squinting at the screen. “So what’s it look like?”
“There was a weird bit of...” Silicon says before looking up at Pavel. “Right, okay, basically every step of the program is like a huge tree right? You start at the tip and by evaluating a situation you go down one of the branches. Basically it’s like a plan flowchart, is this happening? If yes, go this way, if no then go down to the next question. A computer’s processing speed lets it go through this fast so it can keep up with reality.”
“But only if you’ve got enough questions for all the things that happen.”
“Right, well that’s where the Virtual Intelligence comes in. Where it compares situations and while likely not understanding them, it does know how to mimic them. This is where you get things like chat-bots or a video game enemy that seems to learn. It’s almost learning, but it’s not. Not really. That’s what we’re trying to get to, and we have the start of it.”
“Did something go weird?”
“I’m not sure yet? I think... maybe yes? Maybe no?” Silicon says as he turns the laptop to let Pavel see the lines up on lines of code. “This is literally the drone’s brain here. The thing is about an evolving program is that it can cause itself to bloat. That was the issue I was having yesterday and still today. Although it’s not as big as it was yesterday now that we know there’s hardware problems too. We put a lot of code into making these things balance and now that we’ve solved the problem... how much of that can be taken out and how much has to be left in is going to be the work of weeks.”
“Ah got it.”
“You do?”
“I’m a sniper. I have to focus on not only aiming for the target, but I have to accommodate for the wind drag at different temperatures and humidity levels, particles in the air like ash or dust, the gravity of the world I’m on, the movement of the target and the things around them. To say nothing of the make of the weapon firing the bullet and the make of the bullet itself. It’s very much a science.” Pavel says pulling out his little book and handing it to Silicon.
The formally synthetic man looks through the small black book and sees rows upon rows of calculations without any answers written he lets out a little hum before closing it and handing it back.
“I think I understand. Still. There’s more to do... and not much more time to do it. This shift is about to end.”
“It is. Which means it’s time for you to see all that dread math in motion.”
“Oh no! Not the dread math!” Silicon’s sarcasm could peel paint.

2023.06.09 22:47 TiredofCFVbullshit You’re not average. And you don’t have ‘red flags’.
I apologize if any of this comes off as rude. But I’m a bit ticked by the new trend here of people calling themselves ‘an Average student’, then proceeding to showcase their 3.8-4.0 GPA, internships at multiple companies, first place awards in national competitions, and other accolades. The average high school GPA is a 3.0, the average GPA for a college student is a 3.1. You are not average, you are perfectly above average and no, it doesn’t matter if you go to a prep school with other cracked kids, you are still not average. Stop letting these subreddits distort your view of reality.
Secondly, just put the red flags down. Are there things that can hurt you in admissions? Yes. But being from the Bay Area is not something admissions officers view as a ‘red flag’, a red flag would be you committing a crime in high school, or having an insanely low GPA (assuming you’re applying to a t20), or having a really shady EC. I’m not going yo have ‘the argument’, and as I’ve pointed out, yes, some things can hurt you unfairly, but while that is true it’s not a death sentence.
Obviously people might make those posts for other reasons, but I’m also just tired of seeing them, it’s like clickbait.

2023.06.09 22:47 speedraxer Best EMT training course for my situation? (Florida)
Starting this fall, I will be a full-time college freshman on the pre-med track and I would like to work as an EMT. There are a few community colleges near me that have EMT courses but I’m not sure if it would be manageable to take those classes at the same time as my university courses. The other option I have seen is online courses like RC Health Services, which would seem a lot more practical seeing that I could start basically now and grind out as much as possible before summer ends and then work on a flexible schedule when school starts. The downsides to this are having to drive 3.5 hours to and from Jacksonville for the 3 in-person skill days, paying the $1500 cost (if I did it through community college I think I would get free tuition through the bright futures program in Florida), and also I’m not sure if RC Health Services is an approved course for Florida EMS (the FDOH will not answer any of my calls/emails so if anyone has experience with RC Health Services in FL, your insight would be greatly appreciated). Anyways, any guidance/advice would be greatly appreciated!

2023.06.09 22:47 TheTalkedSpy "Of Moods and Motivation" by Jason Moore (May 10, 2023)
Source: The La Vista Church of Christ website.
There are days I don't feel like working. There are days when I'm around people that I don't want to be. I'd rather not smile. I'd rather be alone and not be bothered.
Moods are peculiar things. Like the weather, they're hard to predict. They are affected by so many variables -- health, work, appetite, family, friendships, traffic, temperature, or evening news. Depending upon the mixture of these different conditions and which one is allowed to dominate our thinking, we are found to be in a mood that is good or bad, gloomy or bubbly, somber or cheerful, happy or sad, angry or lethargic, or somewhere in between.
Unlike the weather, moods can be controlled. We are not at the mercy of the present climate in which we find ourselves in a new mood or succumb to our present one. Ultimately it's our choice.
Your feelings spring from your decisions. The Lord has so constructed the heart of man that the will is given the governance. The emotions certainly prod the will. They fuel your decisions but the will is in the driver's seat. The course of your feelings can be changed by turning your attention to other matters, steering clear of known hazards, or doggedly driving ahead through the inclemency even when you don't feel like it.
The fact that your feelings are guided by the will can be demonstrated.
First, experience. Who has not engaged in some endeavor when he didn't feel like it and found that his mood was changed? Perhaps it was a job, or ball game, or vacation, or an unpleasant dinner guest. Such a change of emotion certainly doesn't happen in cases where you boast of your bad mood throughout the enterprise. But when you dive into the project with forced enthusiasm, soon manufactured zeal turns into genuine ardor.
Some will argue that the experience of "falling in love" violates the premise that feelings follow choices. Does it? The fact is that from childhood we store up a mental list of personality traits by which we define "attractive." Some of those choices are conscious. Having a parent who's a drinker causes one person to adopt an intolerance toward a prospective mate with the same inclination. Other traits -- maybe eye color -- are less deliberate, even optional. One day we meet the personification of this mental list that we've been compiling, and we "fall in love." It may even be dubbed "love at first sight." That one whom we have only imagined is now a reality.
Secondly, the Bible affirms that feelings are the product of choices. When Jesus spoke of the superiority of heavenly stores to earthly treasures, He said, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:21). A man's heart or affection lies with his treasure. He feels strongly about those concerns in which he has invested his time. energy, or resources. A woman's feelings about the condition of the home are justified on the basis of the energy she has expended in making it clean and comfortable for the family. A man's pride in ensuring the family's security through his employment is based on his personal investment in labor. It is no accident that the woman carries a baby for nine months. It would seem that the Lord planned such an investment on the part of womankind so that natural affection or "bonding" results. Feelings follow choices. Where the treasure is, there the heart is.
Now make this information practical. Folks excuse behavior on the basis of their moods. They do or don't because they're "in the mood" or "not in the mood." That kind of justification is even used to defend immorality or to dismiss duty.
Consider a few applications. Hungering for righteousness is an acquired appetite. You will feel about Bible study how you choose to feel. lf you invest no time and energy in the exploration of the word of God, you will not be excited by the enterprise. You set the mood for your worship. Paul said, "Let a man examine himself" (I Corinthians 11: 28). If you make no preparation for the assembling of the saints, such will be a bore to you. Your feelings for your spouse will follow your choices. When you stop doing the little things that accompanied your courtship, is it a wonder that feelings wane? If we make no investment in a relationship, the relationship stops growing and becomes vulnerable to failure or intrusions from an outside party.
"Set your affections on things above, and not on things of this earth" (Colossians 3:2). That commandment implies the possibility of mood control, of regulating our spiritual climate. We must be managers of our affections and not let our affections manage us.

2023.06.09 22:47 kevin_price1 AITA for not wanting bridesmaids?
(Repost from AITA Subreddit but reposting as it has become relevant again. New Information added )
I (20F) am no where close to getting married, not in a relationship of any sort and don't plan to until I at least get my Bachelors. My friend, (M23) David however, is starting discussions with his longtime gf (22F) Lisa about settling down and such. They've already agreed to getting married, splitting finances, and I'm completely happy for them. We're all just waiting for a proposal in the coming year or two.
About two days ago, Lisa started flooding our group chat with different wedding ideas. This wasn't a problem, we all loved it and started discussing what we all liked and such. There was one Tik Tok of a bride showing off her bridesmaids' dresses, all within the same color range but not the same style. Lisa commented that she really likes the idea, to which we all agree. This leads to a discussion of what bridesmaids dresses we all like, and they all ask for my opinion.
"Oh! Haven't really thought about it since I don't plan on having any bridesmaids."
Absolute. Radio. Silence. Keep in mind this is a groupchat of hyperactive 20-something college girls. Silence isn't good. Maybe 5 minutes later, Lisa asks "you don't want any of us there on your day?"
I, of course, am confused by this. I respond by saying "of course you're all going to be invited to my wedding, I just don't plan of having a big wedding party."
For context, I am Mexican-American, and the weddings I grew up seeing did not have bridal parties. At most, we had padrinos which are sponsors for different parts of the wedding. I am the only child of immigrants or person of color in this friendgroup and I get that American wedding traditions are different.
Lisa says something along the lines of "I guess I consider you a closer friend than you consider me" which really isn't true. Before I can tell her, everyone else in the group chat tells me they're just as hurt. I've known these girls since middle school so I know that this isn't a flippant petty thing, they genuinely mean it.
So, AITA for telling my friends I don't want a bridal party, making them think I don't value them as friends?
Updated Information: another friend of mine, Ashley (F23) has gotten recently engaged and has asked me to become a bridesmaid which I accepted happily. The conversation of my own bridal party has come up again and even though I was able to let my friends know that I absolutely value them and want them there on my wedding day, I could tell they weren't happy still with my decision of not having bridesmaids.
What they told me was that it was their way of showing me how much they appreciate me being in their lives and that they're uncomfortable that I'm not willing to give them the same gesture. But I won't; not only because it doesnt hold the same cultural significance to me but also because I simply don't want a bridal party. They eventually relented, but I'm still being called inconsiderate. AITA?

2023.06.09 22:46 blondefemmexo Is it normal to “mourn” your teenage years that you spent in the closet?
So, I’m a femme lesbian and 21 y/o. I came out to my friends and family when I was 19, back in 2021. And before that, I basically knew for sure that I was lesbian when I was around 14/15, but stayed in the closet throughout high school and most of my time in college.
And recently, I’ve started to become really depressed whenever I think of all the things I wanted to do back when I was a teenager, but never did specifically because I wasn’t out yet…
Like, I would’ve absolutely loved to become a cheerleader in high school, as a kid, it was my biggest dream to be a cheerleader. But I was afraid that the girls in our cheer-team would find out I was a lesbian and would out me, or feel uncomfortable around me in the changing rooms - which I obviously think is ridiculous now, but back then, that fear was very real.
It’s stuff like that that makes me all sad to think about now… It really feels like I’m “mourning” the things I never experienced during my teen years, because I was still in the closet.
Has anybody else experienced this feeling or am I going crazy?

2023.06.09 22:46 piazzanova Should I drop a nonimpacted class or take the final and potentially fail?
I am taking a class that is dedicated to one of my electives for my major so its non impacted. I haven't been doing so hot in the class, (i.e failed midterm and 2 quizzes) so I have an F/low D right now. Everyone else seems to be doing really well in that class, so I don't think my professor is going to curve the final/class. I have one more year left and I could retake the class if I fail it but I could choose to do another elective. I am also in college of engineering. Please give me some advice. Thank you.

2023.06.09 22:45 ItzCook1e Few General Questions
Heyo, I am
u/ItzCook1e. A little bit about me: I am looking into joining the military and am 17. I have talked to all the main branches and the Army and the Marines are the only ones who have even tried to get me in. The Army has since stopped trying as I am “waiting for waivers that will take 6+ months”.
I am looking to become a airline pilot on the civ side after serving active duty. I am aware there is little to no chance of me being able to become a pilot in the military due to said waivers and other circumstances.
I know a lot more about the army than the marines, so bare with me here.
I am looking into the 61 MOS (fixed wing aviation mechanic to get some mechanical experience in aviation to help get into the pilot seat), what does the day to day look like?
Once I finish BCT, I assume I have AIT (or the marines version of it), am I guaranteed a 61 MOS spot if I sign for that MOS? How long is the 61 AIT? Is there a way to get tasked with a certain plane of my choosing?
What are the different ways I can enter BCT as a higher rank? E-3 is max for the marines as far as I know, and I will already be entering as a E-2 due to college credits.
Thanks in advance to all answers, I’ve been looking for a bit but couldn’t seem to find the answers I was looking for online.

2023.06.09 22:44 MrPuroresu42 Some thoughts on All TOGETHER AGAIN
• Loved the friendly and funny interaction at the beginning with Tanahashi, Suwama, & Go Shiozaki (they were the champs of their respective promotions at the first ALL TOGETHER); just three greats sharing the ring and getting the crowd hype.
• Hokuto Omori looks promising by his showing in the tag match he had with Kojima against Nakajima & Shiozaki; he’s full of piss and vinegar and I hope AJPW uses him well; as for Kojima, it’s heartwarming to see the bread lover still be able to go at a consistent level and be still loved dearly by the fans.
• the six man between Strong Style and Marufuji, Sugiura & Miyawaki was enjoyable, especially Narita’s interactions with Marufuji (looks like their setting up a potential singles match down the line) and Sugiura (their interactions kinda made me sad, because they’re the closest thing we can get to Sugiura vs Shibata; imagine how intense that match would have been?); Miyawaki also looked good from what I saw from him.
• Yuma Anzai is a damn stud of an athlete and I can see why people have been hyping him up; his suplexes, dropkicks, and strikes looked crisp and clean through the six man with him, Nagata & Suwama against LIJ; I also forget just how damn big and strong Suwama is, especially the way he was just overpowering Shingo and his massive Lade Ride on Bushi.
• the main event was everything I could have hoped for and even more; all six men showed out and had the crowd in the palm of their hands; the biggest thing to me was FINALLY getting an interaction between Okada and Kento Miyahara (man, Kento has charisma in spades), as Okada tried (and pretty much failed) to disrespect the somewhat bigger and similarly talented Miyahara; of course, the hate between Okada and Kiyomia reared its ugly head and heat between the two is off the charts and awesome; it’s been said before, but Kiyomia and Kenoh’s in-ring chemistry is insane (could watch those two truly fight forever); Yuma Aoyagi may have been the standout tho (not by much), with him playing middleman between the pissy Okada and hot-headed Kenoh (leading to some truly funny exchanges between the three), leading them to victory and a somewhat sense of respect at the end (Okada to Kiyomia, Umino, and Narita: hate all you bitches; Okda to Aoyagi: you ain’t bad kid, wanna join CHAOS?)

2023.06.09 22:44 Ashura_kun [windows 2000 or XP][2000-2010] Puzzle rooms solved by assembleable robot
Hi everyone! This is what I'm trying to find.
Platform(s): windows, 2000 or XP
Genre: puzzle game, various "rooms" or panel with environmental puzzle. Top-down view.
Estimated year of release: 2000-2010, really unsure about it
Graphics/art style: the explorable world was divided in still rooms, with solid almost jpeg backgrounds and some interactive components. It was a world populated by robot and the adventure, puzzle by puzzle, brought you from the outskirt of the "city" to the core. It had animated cutscene at some key point of the exploration or after solving a particular puzzle. I remember the first couple of level being on a beach and then you got closer and closer to the city with the final panel or rooms being in some type of core.
Notable characters: not really much left in my memory, just that it had a villain, maybe the "mayor" of the city?
Notable gameplay mechanics: you control a small robot, that is made of at least 4 pieces: head, torso, arms and legs. You could find those pieces on the ground or from puzzles. Each pieces of the robot had a specific mechanic, like the head will determine if you could control the robot directly or if it was autonomous or stranger behaviour (like a bomb head that exploded as soon as you touched anything), the arms gave you carrying ability, attack, repulsive (I clearly remember spring arms that kept enemy robot away from you), the leg determined how you moved, jumping with spring, heavy or light wheel.
Other detail:I'll leave a description of the rooms that I remember As I said the first rooms were on a beach. Then I remember the entrance of a mine which needed to be closed with said bomb head, but some tiny spiders got in your way making you explode before reaching the entrance. The puzzle was solved I believe by rolling some boulders that squished the spiders. Then a memorable room was one were you had to mix the right quantity of berry in pot by some logic. You achieved that by jumping to the right platform that had the right amount of berry. (I kinda remember a big tribal guy in the middle giving you the instructions, it remind me of robot like papu papu from crash bandicoot, but it could just be a very distorted memory that will give me a good laugh if I see it again). These were all rooms a the start of the game, before the city. The later part of the game is very blurry, like for sure there were some electric puzzle involving circuitry and alike ( maybe even a light bulb head for your robot) but the most of it is too faint to describe.
I have the faintest memory of the title, like it could be similar to "Archimedes" of "Copernicus" something along this line. Don't count on this mostly because I'm pretty sure I played the game in Italian not knowing English at that time, so the title might be translated or completely changed in the localisation.
Thank you very much for even reading all this
