Warhammer 40k is a franchise created by Games Workshop, detailing the far future and the grim darkness it holds. The main attraction of 40k is the miniatures, but there are also many video games, board games, books, ect. that are all connected in the 40k universe. 2023.05.20 07:02 Foxenstine Contemptor Dreadnought Loadouts?

So i just got my dread in today and when looking on Wahapedia it looks like the 40k one is really restricted, I really love all the different options, so I’m wondering what the rules for it are in 30k? And if yall know exactly what the legal 40k load out is? (Also wahapedia lists a Multi Meta but i don’t See that on the instructions so that would also help)

2023.05.17 23:18 Sasa_The_FloofDragon Do the Forgeworld head and shoulder upgrades for 30k Iron warriors work well with the 40k chaos space marine legionaries

Greetings Perty bois,

I am new to 40k and havent really jumped into an army with the exception of the Admech combat patrol (sorta hoping for dark admech at some point).
I recently decided to jump into the chaos side as I am partial to the Iron warriors (because they are what the kids call 'based', I like the daemon engine models and I can respect a legion that considers that the only good daemon to be one that is shoved in an engine).
I really like the way the MKII and MKVI iron warriors heads and shoulders for 30k look on forgeworld.
My questions at this time are the following:
1) Would any of you happen to know if these heads/shoulders are physically compatible with the bodies of the chaos legionaries/Havocs (and the monopose legionary set included in the start collecting box)?
I'd hate to spend allot of money on those upgrades if they end up not fitting.
2) Would you also happen to know if (after painting) you'd see a stark difference between the plastic body and the resin head/shoulder pad?

3) silly other question but would a kitbash of cultist mob heads on blooded traitor guard bodies look odd? I got a box of cultist but am dissapointed that it only comes with melee weapon and pistol (I assumed it'd be some with boltguns etc as mentioned on wahapedia but that's only the cultist warband apparently). I love the cultist face masks and i thought some might look good on traitor guard bodies (and the traitor guard box has more actual guns).

4) bonus questoin: will Iron warriors ever get (again?) siege weaponry options (basilisks, big cannons etc..)?
Thank you for the help :D

2023.05.15 10:28 ciasteczka___ Rules help

Hi Everyone. I just started AOs having come from 40k. Sbgl are my first army and I'm a bit confused on the list building.
So I've seen people online talk about avengori having zombie dragons as battle line, kastelli having blood nights, legion of night having vargeists, and legion of blood having black knights. I can't remember what radukars faction gets.
My question is, I've looked on the allegiance abilities and I can see legion of blood battle traits, command train and artefacts but nothing about what changes their battle line?
I cant find it in the book as far as I can see, it doesn't pop up on wahapedia, it's on battlescribe and YouTubers have spoken about it along with a few other aps players but I just can't find it.
Any ideas on what I'm missing?
Thanks

2023.05.02 16:14 MrFishyFriend Question about and keywords

My brother and I are just getting into Killteam after playing 40k proper for a few months. I noticed while reading through Wahapedia that every Kommando has an optional keyword. Same with Veteran Guardsmen having a keyword.
However I can't seem to find anything in the core rules on Wahapedia that mentions them. Is this a Wahapedia error or is it just meant to be fluff for your Fireteams?

2023.04.29 14:47 jmpmjs Help Mephiston manifesting quickening AND null zone question

Hi. Looking at wahapedia 40K 9th edition, seems that Mephiston can use Arcane Knowledge Stratagem, which says: "Use this Stratagem in your Psychic phase. Select one STRIKE FORCE RHALION PSYKER unit from your army. You can attempt to manifest one additional psychic power with that unit this phase. That psychic power does not need to be one that unit knows, but it must be from a psychic discipline they have access to. If they manifest a psychic power they do not know, this Stratagem costs 2CP; otherwise, it costs 1CP."
So, If my whole army is Blood Angels chapter I can add STRIKE FORCE RHALION keyword: "When mustering a Boarding Patrol, if your Faction is ADEPTUS ASTARTES and all of your units are from the Blood Angels Chapter, then you can choose to give them the STRIKE FORCE RHALION Faction keyword and use the rules presented here instead of those found in other publications"
If Mephiston is now STRIKE FORCE RHALION PSYKER, he should be able to manifest Sanguinary Discipline powers AND one from Sanguinary or Librarius Discipline (2CP) right?
Mainly because I would love to use Quickening & Null Zone against Invulnerable Save units (example: Grimnyr from Votann)
Thank you very much!

What are your thought on the title. Not only Rowboat Girlyman win combat, he also give; -3CP, IN THIS ECONOMY??! 3 is big -12" +1 advance and charge aura, amazing on termites, or anyone wanna push on board -good at killing medium to big things, more durable, might come back as well, slightly cheaper
But we lose superdoctrine in return, but we probably gonna lose that in 10th anyway. I dunno, I'm just disappointed man, I expected more from Lion, not just a beatstick

2023.04.12 17:31 SpareGuard Sergeant Chronus in my Sicaran BT

Sergeant Chronus in my Sicaran BT
Hi! TLDR: is it faishould i be able to put Sergeant Chronus in my Sicaran BT?
I recently played my first game of 40k and was a bit dissapointed in my sicarans damage output (may have been user error;)). After looking around the character section i found sergeant Chronus, which gives any vehicle he drives a 2+BS regardless of the bracket the vehice is in. I find that this works perfectly with What i had in mind, however, righ as i was about to start kitbashing my own model, i noticed that he can only command the vehicles listed below. This was of course a bummer, and i am now wondering if it is meant to be this way, or if he is just too old of a model to have a proper rules update. To me it makes sensefrom a lore perspective that he can’t drive primaris vehicles as he is still stuck in his first born form, but it makes less sense for me that he can’t command Horus heresy era vehicles (unless of course he was not around for that).
This leads me on to my question(s): Do you think that the rules are supposed to be this way or do you think it would be okay/fair to include him in match with friends? Furthermore, do you think it would be possible to get him approved by the judges in a GT, so that he could be used there?
Also: i see that he does not have a supported character in GWs web store, so that may also explosion it..
Pictures are from Lexicanum, Wahapedia and my first game:)

I’m browsing vehicles to transport my flame and melta boys around the battlefield and I’m curious which is the best unit to pick? Almost all of my Salamanders are primaris. I was looking at them in the 40K app and on wahapedia. But the rules are different between the two, some of the vehicles on the 40K app say they can’t transport primaris models whereas wahapedia doesn’t list that restriction. Please help!!

2023.04.06 07:52 CaseyCascade What 40k Unit is best represented by a Killteam Phobos Strike Team?

Pretty much just the title! Killteam boxes are my favorite models to start painting for 40k. I was expecting there to be a 1:1 representation for the Phobos Strike Team like how the Ork Kommandos work, but I’m unsure which datasheet on Wahapedia is the correct one to use for these models.
I’m sure it’ll change with 10th edition anyway? But I’m curious what rules I should look at for 40k in order to build these models. Thanks for any help!

2023.03.30 18:12 IceAgentX Multiple Primarchs

Google and wahapedia are being completely unhelpful so I'm just gonna ask here, can you have two Daemon Primarchs in the same army? Because when I put it into battlescribe it just tells me that I have to select both of them as warlord and then tells me I can only have 1 warlord. I thought that if two units need to be warlord you just choose one? Is this just a battlescribe thing or a general 40k thing?

2023.03.28 23:34 Hunter_Cadre Are Knight Houses and Crusader Houses completely separate things? Is there any overlap?

Running a Wrath and Glory campaign, looking to make a backstory for a player's Crusader character.
This player REALLY wanted to be a Grey Knight which there's no way in hell I would allow, but I had never heard of Crusaders in all my 40K reading until coming across the Archetype on P.110 of the Wrath and Glory core rulebook. This seemed like the best option for a player who wanted Melee-only and tanky armour with a Knightly aesthetic. BUT he doesn't want to be relegated to being a selfless glorified Inquisitor's bodyguard and would rather pursue vengeance against a fallen traitor Knight house (homebrewed as "The Sanguine Spears")
I initially got my wires crossed and assumed Knight Houses and Crusader Houses are the same thing, but apparently, they are not.
Ive read the Wikis for both Knight and Crusader houses on 40K fandom, 1D4Chan, Lexicanum, and Wahapedia. I have NOT read any codexes or supplements, and I AM a Tau main so forgive my ignorance. But, there doesnt seem to be a ton of backstory for Crusaders other than that they're Inquisitor Bodyguards that come from dedicated families.
So, I'd love to hear the community's thoughts on these topics:
  1. Do Knight houses not have any of their own foot soldiers at all? I can't find any references to "Knights" that are not the pilots of Knight-suits, or the Knight-Suits themselves OR maybe they are just nobles who are neither, but then it doesnt describe ANYTHING about them, nor can I find any illustrations (which is as annoying as it is confusing). Wouldn't it make sense for them to have some elite noble soldiers, and wouldnt it make sense for those elites to wield exactly what Crusaders do?
  2. Since the culture of Knight Houses can vary immensely, would it not be believable for there to be a house that produces both Crusaders and Knight Pilots? Even though one ends up in the church and the other ends up in the military?
  3. If Crusaders belonging to Knight houses is really incompatible, wouldn't a Crusader still carry some Noble status? Or is this cast off with all his worldly possessions in pursuit of devotion?
  4. Failing that - Any Wrath and Glory DMs have ideas for how to make this character work?
tl;dr "Knight" simultaneously means 3 completely different things (pilot, mech, noble) but it DOESN'T mean Crusader and I kind of have a problem with that

2023.03.24 14:39 FunkAztec Helpfull stuff for battlescribe and wahapedia

So some helpful resources i have found while using battlescribe and wahapedia
First, battlescribe units for your army can be converted into information sheets/cards. They read similar to how the unit stats are in the codex. The link is:
https://anti-heresy-sheets.web.app/
For wahapedia there are several things hidden but not really hidden. When you click on your game system, like 40k 9th ed, there are sub menues on the top right that lead you to codexes and other books/rules. Well if you click on the lowercase i button it leads you to extra resources. Specifically the one called data export. These will get you data cards, a game tracker, and a strategem organizer for your battlescribe army.
If playing campaigns, or you just wanna play 3/4 person free for all or a 2v1/2v2 there are books for these as well. Look at the campaigns section of the scroll button menu and in the middle there are books under campaigns. One to point out specifically is catastrophe is the one for 3 or 4 person games rules.
And for the latest 500 pt game version, boarding actions, there is no need to go and buy multiple books and maybe magazines in the future, to get all the rules. Wahapedia has them.
Just a grain of salt, all these resources and tools are community ran, nothing is officially endorsed by james workshop so when new goodies come out it may take time for the databases to update, and of course we are only human after all, so tgere might be errors in the information or site/app. Just shoot a msg either to the battlescribe database it is for or on discords.
All in all have fun and its never shameful to ask, ask, ask. We just might tease you, but we should help in the end.

2023.03.22 03:11 AquillonTerminator Having a hard time committing to armies

Hey everyone I’m a sort of new player to 40k, I’ve been interested in 40k as a whole for about a year now and I’ve experienced the plastic crack addiction already with 3 armies and I was finally able to find the army that was for me and it’s been World Eaters. I love the way they play and lore and are just overall fun to play on the tabletop, but I find myself wanting a 2nd army and I keep going through Wahapedia looking at everyone and I’ve dialed it down to Adeptus Custodes, Grey Knights, and the Leagues Of Votaan. I feel like I’m just caught in a endless loop of oh more more and I don’t know how to just be chill with the army I have now, has anyone else experienced something similar to this or am I just crazy?

2023.03.16 02:26 mast3rchiief Rules question about Obscuring and Heavy Terrain

I was playing a KT tournament last week and came a cross an interaction that was difficult for me to wrap my head around. I have to preface by saying that everyone involved was a bit inexperienced and I noticed some "house rules" which I did not expect in a tournament setting. The issue is as follows:
I'm playing Wyrmblade and my whole team has a conceal order. The terrain some of my operatives were hiding behind is something similar to the picture I attached to the post, an L shaped ruin.
https://imgur.com/a/lRMwCv5
We both agreed to assign it the Heavy keyword to make it obscuring (as the tables didn't have enough terrain to really hide behind) . I used the Wyrmblade Strategic Ploy "One with the Shadows" to be extra safe, although I think I didn't need to (word by word taken from Wahapedia) Until the end of the Turning Point, when determining Line of Sight from an enemy operative to a friendly WYRMBLADE operative, if that friendly WYRMBLADE operative has a Conceal order, Light terrain is Obscuring.
Now the issue comes when my opponent playing Legionaries gets his plasma gunner, puts it on top of the vantage point of an Octarius terrain piece on their side of the dropzone and tries to shoot my leader arguing that he could draw a diagonal line from his Operative's face/weapon to my base at the other end of the board and thus meaning I lost obscuring. I also attached a drawing of what happened to make it clearer.
Due to the unusual circumstances with terrain available I argued against it saying it was supposed to hide me entirely, and to pretend the ruin was taller ( at least as tall as his) as it was my only defence turn 1.
Coming from 40K I always understood obscuring to be something like an invisible wall of infinite height that made visibility impossible. I know Killteam treats visibility and LoS to be different concepts but I didn't expect it to apply to corner cases like this. If obscuring works like 40K, my guess is that he wouldn't be able to hit my Kelermorph standing at the back of the board either even though he would get a clearer shot at his base.
TLDR: how does Line of Sight apply when taking into account the shape and size of Heavy terrain, is Obscuring infinitely high or just as long as it hides your base from the Enemy's visibility

2023.03.15 06:50 referee-moussambani A few general questions, really

Hi there. I only played a little 40K in... 5th edition, I would think. I went with Necrons, of course. I don't really own any minis or anything. I don't have many players near me, and having to travel by train to get to play wasn't something that appealed much to me.
Situation is still the same, but recently I remembered 40K and I noticed we're now in 9th edition and went to look about Necrons again. I found a very different game, of course.
So... general questions.
1, Is there some good way to play online, say Tabletop Simulator or something like that? I asked a bit, but consensus seems to be you can play, but it's going to be messy...
2, Found a game with Stratagems and Detachments and Power Levels... What is the general idea here? Getting just one detachment or various? I liked the Mono, but it seems it's not going into a main detachment now, looking at some rules
3, Stratagems, do I have to pick before hand the ones I want to play, or bring them all and then pick whatever in game? I never used those things...
4, Site I'm using to look at rules and profiles for the Necron units is wahapedia. Is that a good one?
5, I've noticed point costs for Necrons have been tweaked down on several units. Is that correct? Were we overpriced on release, or what is going on here?
Thank you for your answers. I think that's everything I wanted to ask. If you think I missed something I should know feel free to point it out too.
Final question more related to Necrons is what can we do on the table? I've seen people saying shooters, people saying melee, people saying both... No psykers, those are dirty tricks for the fleshies. ;) I liked the being really resilient, can we still do that? I got very few plays, so my tactics won't be the best, I assume.
NOTE: I think this is the right flair. I apologize if I got it wrong, but from the options I saw, Rules Question is the one that fits the best, I think. :)

2023.03.14 08:41 Mechwarrior007 Starting to learn 40k rules, feeling overwhelmed, frustrated. Using the starter set. Advice or encouragement welcome.

Hello everyone,
So I got the starter set, spent weeks paining it.. got the codices, official app, other misc things.. was getting all into it and excited. And I still am.. but:
Its feeling like it has a ridiculously steep learning curve to entry. When I first watched several how to play videos for 40k 9th edition.. I was like, oh this is neat, I can handle this. Even simpler than battletech. When I read the core rules I felt confident this isnt too bad... anyway here are my struggles I am having:
  1. The core rules dont seem to really cover alot of cases. I have to google or look up youtube videos to truly understand things. For example, I had to keep looking up things about heroic intervention (Can the HI guy get into engagement range? Can the charged units then also choose to attack the HI character? How do I use the character to HI if I cant get around my 5 unit squad? Can I put my character in between the 2 inches of the cohesion of the squad... anyway you see the list goes on and on... its frustrating to have to keep looking everything up.
  2. I simply cant remember things, I have to go between codex, wahapedia, the app, the quick start sheets of the starter set, and google/youtube. Its a slow process I am feeling pretty stupid to be honest, like its making me question if my memory is messed up. I'm not even using faction specific strategems yet, or doctrins or protocols. Or secondaries... and its seeming very hard to keep track of everything. Like oh darn I could have used overwatch, or, oh darn I forgot I was in 6 inches of this aura or, oh I forgot about the stat boost from this or that ... on and on. Like if I showed up to a game to play at a gaming store, lets say I use the app... Id have to keep switching back and forth between datasheets, detatchment abilities, strategems, etc.. it seems a bit unwieldy to me (and I think I'd still forget things).
So I guess what I want to ask, is this normal at first? Does it get better? Or is the game slightly too complicated? I suppose I am having an initial hit of panic or disappointment somehow. Also, the necron skorpech (sp?) destroyers in the starter set just seem to obliterate everything and they are hard to take down.. its ok if its not balanced I suppose but it makes me question if I am getting rules wrong.
Anyway thanks for reading my rant, suggestions are welcome. I am going to keep trying at it for a bit, I am just undecided if I will buy more models or expand on it yet. Also I am kind of wondering if during most games there are many rules commonly forgotten (or gotten wrong) unless very veteran experienced pros are playing.
I hope I didnt sound too negative, just feeling burnt out trying to learn at the moment. The other issues is that I was hoping I could have a friend over and teach them how to play casually.. but that feels just about impossible at this point unless I really simplify the game.
Few days later: Just wanted to thank everyone for their responses, tips, and encouragement. I have played a few more games with myself solo, and the pieces are finally starting to come together and I am getting a little faster at it. I think when I get the datacards, that will help me with the necron protocols and the marines combat doctrines. It's starting to feel more doable for sure. I will probably just not worry about secondaries until later one after I have a more firm grasp. Its looking like this will be a fun hobby as time permits! =)

2023.03.11 09:30 Accomplished_Ad_2372 Discrepencies between Codex and Battlescribe/Wahapedia

TLDR at bottom of post :p
Brand new player here. I've baught the Adepta Sororitas codex, and I am trying to build my very first army, mostly just to get familiar with the rules and process. I haven't played a game yet, but want to build a legal battle-forged army to try out on TTS before commiting to buying any models.
I have seen MANY posts/comments/videos recommend battlescribe so I started using that. However I quickly noticed some discrepencies between my codex and the options available on battlescribe (and sites such as Wahapedia). I am fully aware that GW makes balance updates semi regularly and I have tried to seek these out, but after a LOT of looking I am yet to find a single piece of official content outlining the changes between the codex and battlecribe/wahapedia.
For example, in the codex cannoness can take a rod of office if they are equiped with a boltgun and power sword, but on battlescribe it is only available if she takes a plasma pistol and powersword (and boltgun is now a legends option). And in the codex, Celestine is a single model, with the Geminae Superia not taking up a slot if you have her. Whereas battlescribe and Wahapedia have them as a combined model with some completely different and some new abilities. Also on batle scribe Cesestine is forced to take "Warlord trait 5: Indomitable Belief" but in the codex it specifically states that Celestine MUST take "Warlord trait 4: Beacon of Faith". I have looked in the 2023 Q1 balance dataslate, munitorum field manual 2023 Mk I, the power rating update, and the various FAQ versions for the core rules, adepta sororitas codex, the order of the bloody rose, and various other FAQs just to be thorough. I have used this post as reference also for rule changes https://www.reddit.com/Warhammer40k/wiki/currentrules/#wiki_adepta_sororitas
So far the only thing I have seen justifying these changes have been in reddit comments on other similar posts, and most of those are 2-3 years old. The general consensus is that Battlescribe and Wahapedia are the best sources of up to date info, I just have no idea where they are getting the rule updates from. I have also seen several comments saying that there are several bugs/incorrect rules on battlescribe for sisters, sisters characters especially. These comments were also many months or years old too.
TLDR; Where can I find ALL of the rule/datasheet updates (in general but also for sisters of battle), so I can make legal lists? As I have noticed many discrepencies between the codex and Battlescribe/Wahapedia that are not listed in the FAQ and Downloads section of WarCom.
Sorry for such a long post, but as someone new getting into 40k, I want to make sure I am getting all the rules completely right. My inner rules lawyer demands it! It has been a long and barely illuminating search, so I turn to you, all-mighty and all-knowing internet denizens.

2023.03.07 22:40 Gnaaark Shoulder the Mantle into Assasination

Greetings my fellow 10.000!
When having just another game of 40k with my Golden Bananabois, one big question came up: Enemy picked Assasination in secondaries and killed my WL.
SHOULDER THE MANTLE - 1CP Use this Stratagem when your WARLORD is destroyed. Select another ADEPTUS CUSTODES CHARACTER model from your army. Until the end of the battle, if that model does not have a Warlord Trait, it gains one Warlord Trait of that destroyed WARLORD. Then, until the end of the battle, that ADEPTUS CUSTODES CHARACTER model now counts as your WARLORD for all rules purposes. If any mission objective, secondary objective or Agenda rules are triggered when your WARLORD is destroyed, those rules are not triggered until after the new WARLORD is destroyed.
I used Shoulder the Mantle there to get the WL Trait on my Vexilla while thinking to myself: Does the enemy score 3 Points as if he killed a general Character or is he just outright not getting ANY points for Assasination, since you dont trigger any secondaries involving that particular WL OR does the enemy score 7 Points as soon as he kills the "new" WL?
Thanks in advance!
