This is part three of a post I made looking at every club that was relegated from the Primeira Liga once and never returned, part of a larger series on clubs who only had one stint in their country's top flight. Parts
one and
two are here if you missed them.

- Founded: 1912
- Time in the Primeira Liga: 1983-1984 (One season)
- Current Status: AF Aveiro Campeonato Safina (5th Tier)
Already in this post we've seen two clubs who were born from companies, and our next entry wouldn't be much different. 1920 saw the founding of Fábrica de Outeiro, a ceramics company based in the city of Águeda in the Aveiro District. Four years later, the company founded Club Artístico, Desportivo e Cultural, with the Footballing sector going by the name
Recreio Artístico. Unlike previous entries, however, Fábrica de Outeiro would have little involvement with the club, so a group of boys would take responsibility for getting the club off and running. They went to Aveiro Football Association to formally register the club, but they discovered that they couldn't use the name
Recreio Artístico because it had already been taken. So instead the club would be officially designated "Recreio Desportivo de Águeda". After a brief run as a purely amateur outfit, the club began playing in the district leagues, though it wouldn't be until 1952 that the club would first reach the national leagues, playing for the first time in the III Divisão. While they made a number of appearances in the third tier, Águeda spent most of the next two decades playing in the Aveiro district championship. It wasn't until 1975 that the club would have a prolonged period in the national divisions, and in relatively quick fashion they won promotion to the Segunda in 1977. At first the second tier proved to be a struggle, and after two season Águeda were sent back to the Terceira. Yet they made it back to the Segunda at the first time of asking, and in the 80/81 season, they were already making an impression by finishing 4th in the Zona Centro. They went one better in 81/82, moving up to 3rd, before finally topping the Zona Centro and thereby promoting to the Primeria Divisão in the 1982-83 season.
Águeda did not have a great schedule at the start of the 83/84 Primeira. After drawing away to Estoril 0-0, the
Galos do Botaréu had to face Porto, Braga, and Benfica in quick succession. They ended up losing each of those games 2-0, and just like that the club had already found themselves in the relegation zone. Águeda wouldn't earn their first win until October, defeating Varzim 1-0 on matchday seven. From that point on, Águeda became the very definition of inconsistency; until February the club would alternate between winning and losing for nine straight matchdays. While this wasn't great for developing any sort of rhythm, it was good enough to at least bring them up to 12th in the standings. Unfortunately, the second half of the season wouldn't be nearly as forgiving. Another draw with Estoril (this time 1-1) kicked off the back end of the campaign, and once again the club had to contend with Porto, Braga, and Benfica back-to-back. This time the scores wouldn't be nearly as close: 6-0 loss to Porto, 5-1 loss to Braga, and 4-1 loss to Benfica. Again the Roosters would fall into the relegation zone, courtesy of having an inferior goal difference compared to 13th placed Salgueiros. But surely if Águeda were even to replicate the inconsistent form from the first half they should stay up, right? Well at first it seemed like they would do even better than that. The club won away to Farense in game 20 and then defeated Penafiel at home, both by the same 1-0 scoreline. This was so far the first time that Águeda won back-to-back games in the campaign. These, however, would be the last wins the club would earn in the top flight. Following successive victories, the club suffered successive losses to Varzima and Boavista, and after failing to beat relegation rivals Salgueiros and Espinho, the Aveiro club were trounced 6-1 away to Vitória Guimarães. Further losses to Sporting and Portimonense made for a bleak outlook, but after a draw against Vitória Setúbal, Águeda still had a chance at survival provided they defeat Rio Ave on the final matchday. The
Vilacondenses had other plans, though, and thoroughly routed Águeda 5-1, sending them down to the Segunda.
The 1984-85 Segunda season was nothing to write home about as the club finished 5th in Zona Centro, but the 85/86 campaign would prove to be agonizing for the club. That season they had finished top of the Zona Centro after a hard fought promotion fight against O Elvas and Feirense. But what should have been a ticket back to the big stage would soon be ripped out of their hands thanks to what is known as the "Gerúsio Case". In a game against Académico de Viseu near the end of the regular season (which they won 3-0), Águeda fielded Brazilian striker Gerúsio, despite the fact that he was supposed to be suspended for the game. As a result, the FPF awarded a 3-0 win to Académico, causing Águeda to fall below O Elvas in the standings, and thus the club had to go to the
Liguilha to fight for a spot in the Primeira. They couldn't manage to do so, finishing bottom of the group with just one point to their name. Águeda would continue in the second tier until 1991 when they were relegated to the Segunda Divisão B, and four years later they fell further to the Terceira Divisão. The club returned to Segunda B in 1999 and for a short time moved between the third and fourth divisions, but in 2005 the club were sent down to the district championships after arriving six minutes late to a relegation-decider against RSC Lamas. Águeda actually won the match 1-0, which would have kept them in the Terceira, but due to the infraction the FPF considered the game forfeit, and so the club ended up finishing in the relegation zone. For the next 11 years, the Aguedense competed in the district championships (apart from brief apperances in the Tercaira in the 06/07 and 08/09 seasons) before winning promotion to the Campeonato de Portugal in 2016. After five seasons in the third tier, Águeda were relegated back to the Aveiro district championship in 2021 and are currently set to compete there for a third consecutive season.
A.D. Fafe
https://preview.redd.it/miwlg493je1b1.png?width=256&format=png&auto=webp&s=104bd4c48562e1d64639df6188bb455a18ea45ba - Full Name: Associação Desportiva de Fafe
- Founded: 1958
- Time in the Primeira Liga: 1988-1989 (One season)
- Current Status: Liga 3 (3rd Tier)
The city of Fafe in the mid- to late 1920s would see the birth of two football clubs: Futebol Clube de Fafe (formed in 1926) and Sporting Clube de Fafe (formed in 1929). Of the two, it was Sporting that proved to be more successful, making multiple appearances in the lower national divisions in the 40s and 50s, winning five Braga district titles in that period compared to FC Fafe's one. After the 1957-58 season following SC Fafe winning the Braga championship, the two clubs agreed to merge, becoming Associação Desportiva de Fafe on June 28th, 1958. Thanks to SC Fafe's title win in the 57/58 season, AD Fafe started out in the III Divisão, and while it took some time for the club to establish itself, bouncing between the Terceira and the district championships for a time, they managed to find their footing, and in 1972 they won promotion to the Segunda Divisão. After just three seasons in the second tier, Fafe nearly won promotion to the Primeira after finishing second in Zona Norte, but in the promotion/relegation playoffs they finished bottom behind Beira Mar, Atlético CP, and Leixões. The club made it to the promotion playoffs again in the 1979-80 season, but once again missed out after finishing behind Académico. In total, Fafe spent sixteen seasons in the second tier following their promotion, only interrupted by a one season stint in the Terceira in 83/84. While for the most part the club finished near the upper part of the league table, it seemed that promotion to the top flight was always just out of reach. The club even qualified for the
Liguilha This was especially frustrating given their success in the Taça de Portugal. Fafe managed to reach the semi-finals of the cup in both the 1976-77 and 1978-79 editions, though both times they didn't face a Primeira side until that point, losing to Porto and Sporting at that stage respectively.
In 1987, the club would be handed a boost to their promotion hopes. The FPF decided to expand the Primeira Divisão from 16 teams to 20 teams, which would ultimately last for two seasons, with six teams being relegated from the league in the 87/88 season. This presented Segunda Divisão teams a rare opportunity, as now the top two teams in each group would earn automatic promotion. Fafe came into the 87/88 Segunda season highly motivated, but despite their best efforts, the club came up just short, finishing third in Zona Norte on 52 points, one point off of second place Leixões and eventual II Divisão winners Famalicão. As it stood, Fafe were going to have to play another season in the Segunda, but things would take a very dramatic and scandalous turn, however. Shortly before the 1988-99 season was set to kick off, Fafe accused Famalicão of match-fixing. Near the end of the 87/88 Segunda campaign, a game between Famalicão and Macedo de Cavaleiros was abandoned at halftime after Macedo supporters invaded the pitch. As a consequense, the match (which was 0-0 at the time of abandonment) was awarded as a 1-0 forfeit to Famalicão. Fafe claimed that Famalicão staged the incident, and soon after António Vega, the president of Macedo de Cavaleiros, came out publicly to state that he had indeed been bribed by Famalicão to throw the game in their favor. A case would be opened into the matter, and eventually the FPF found Famalicão guilty of the offense. As punishment, their Segunda title was revoked and both they and Macedo de Cavaleiros were automatically relegated to the Terceira Divisão. With Famalicão gone, the second promotion spot was awarded to Fafe, who would take Famalicão's spot in the 1988-89 Primeira campaign.
Staying in the Primeira would be a difficult task given that the league was set to shrink down to 18 starting in 1989, with the bottom five of the 88/89 season set to be relegated. Because of the litigation that resulted from the scandal, Fafe missed the first three games of the season, not playing their first game until September 11th (matchday four). The
Justiceiros (a nickname that will become
very ironic for reasons that will be explained in the comments) did not start the season well, losing away to Vitória Setúbal 4-0. The club did pick up its first win immediately after (1-0 vs Farense), though they followed that up with three consecutive draws (albeit one of them being against Belenenses) and then three consecutive losses. Surprisingly, they did manage a 0-0 draw against Porto (who had just won the European Cup two seasons ago) in late October, but that game was the start of a five match scoreless streak which included three consecutive losses to Penafiel, Marítimo, and Nacional. Unsurprisingly, this left the Braga side in a relegation fight, but the following months would see an uptick in form. Though they only won two games in December, Fafe went unbeaten in January with three wins and a draw. The good results wouldn't hold, however, and after going unbeaten in four the club went winless in nine immediately after. The next victory wouldn't come until April via a 2-1 win over fellow relegation candidates Espinho. More positive results would come Fafe's way, but the fight for survival was very tight. A 2-2 side with Braga in game 36 left Fafe with 30 points - just one point off from safety - but they would need to win out in the remaining two fixtures to have a good shot of staying up. In the penultimate game against Portimonense, though, they lost 2-1, and despite defeating Chaves 2-0 on the final day, Fafe would become the last team relegated from the Primeira, finishing 16th.
Fafe's single point curse would continue in the 89/90 Segunda. In a restructuring of the Portuguese pyramid, the second tier would be consolidated into the Segunda Divisão de Honra. To have a chance of qualifying, clubs had to finish at least 8th in their group. Fafe finished 9th in Zona Norte, one point off of 8th placed Leixões, meaning that they would be playing in the new third tier Segunda B for the 1990-91 season. The club narrowly missed out on promotion to the Segunda Honra in the 91/92 season after finishing behind Rio Ave in their group, and for the next two and a half decades the club spent most of its time stuck in the third tier, even dipping back into the fourth tier Terceira on a few occasions, the last being between 2008 and 2010. It would take 26 years for Fafe to return to the second tier, winning promotion to LigaPro (now Liga Portugal 2) in 2016 after defeating Casa Pia 1-0 in a playoff. The
Justiceiros did not have a good showing in the 2016-17 Liga Pro season, and they were relegated to the Campeonato de Portugal after finishing 20th out of 22 teams. After four more seasons in the Campeonato, another league restructuring would see the creation of a new third tier - Liga 3, and as such clubs in the Campeonato could end up either in the second tier Liga Portugal 2 or down to the 5th tier district championships. Fafe had a good campaign, but they missed out on a possible promotion to the second tier after finishing second in their series behind Pevidém on goal difference. Thus the club had to contend with the Liga 3 qualification series, where they barely managed to gain access to the new third tier after defeating Vitória Guimarães' B team in the final game of the playoffs. Fafe has since played in Liga 3 and are set to compete in the 2023/24 edition after barely surviving the relegation playoffs.

- Founded: 1932
- Time in the Primeira Liga: 1995-1996 (One season)
- Current Status: Extinct
Based in the Porto District, FC Felgueiras wouldn't become a regular participant in Portugal's national divisions until the early 1980s, having spent their first 50 years of existence exclusively in the district championships. They won promotion to the Terceira Divisão in 1982 after winning the AF Porto first division title, and in just two seasons they secured another promotion. The club competed in the Segunda Divisão for six seasons before the restructuring of the second division saw them drop down into the Segunda Divisão B in 1990 after finishing 11th in Zona Norte. Felgueiras would return to the second tier in 1992, finishing 10th in the 1992-93 season. In the middle of the 93/94 campaign, Felgueiras hired Jorge Jesus (who is making his second appearance in this list) as head coach, and it would under him that the club would make its way to the Primeira Divisão. The club improved to 6th at the end of 93/94, and in 94/95 the club would become part of a very tight promotion race with the likes of Leça and Campomaiorense leading the charge and the likes of Famalicão, Paços de Ferreira, and Estoril in the mix. For a while it seemed like Felguerias would have to settle for another season in the Segunda Honra, but thanks in large part to a catastrophic collapse from Famalicão and a hiccup by Paços de Ferreira combined with their own good form, the club managed to sneak their way into third and officially confirmed their participation in the top flight after defeating Estoril 1-0 on the final matchday.
Felgueiras started the 1995-96 Primeira season (the first season to have 3 points for a win) fairly well, opening with a draw against Chaves and defeating Marítimo 2-0, though they then lost to fellow promotees Leça afterwards. The months of September and October would be a mixed bag, featuring a win over Boavista and an impressive 1-1 draw against Porto, but also featuring losses to Vitória Guimarães and Estrela, leaving the club hanging around in midtable. Mid-November saw the club have an excellent albeit brief run of games, earning three wins in a row against Campomaiorense, Belenenses, and Farense, bringing them as high as 7th. In December, though, Felgueiras had to face both Sporting and Benfica in succession. The club were routed by the
Leões 4-0, but in the game against
As Águias, Felgueiras actually took the lead through Trinidadian striker Leonson Lewis. The Lisbon giants ultimatley won the game 2-1, and following the defeat Felgueiras went winless in their next five games, failing to score in the entire month of January. A win over Salgueiros seemed to stem the tide, giving the club a 10 point cushion above the relegation zone, but the turning point of the season would occur in the return fixture against Porto. This time the
Dragões showed no mercy, dispatching the the club 6-2. Felguerias wouldn't recover from the humiliation as they proceeded to lose their next four games by an aggregate score of 10-0. The end of April also saw the rematches against the Lisbon clubs, and while on paper consecutive 1-0 losses wouldn't seem that bad, those losses brought Felgueiras into the relegation zone for the first time. Felgueiras entered the final matchday in 17th on 30 points, needing to defeat União de Leiria and hoping neither Tirense nor Chaves win their matches. Felgueiras did defeat União 3-0, but Chaves also won their final game over Gil Vicente, and thus Felgueiras finished behind them by a single point and were relegated back to the Segunda Honra.
Relegation back to the second tier would see the departure of key figures from the club, including Jorge Jesus, future Portugal international Sérgio Conceição (who left for Porto), and Leonson Lewis, the joint-third highest scorer in the 95/96 Primeira (who left for Boavista). The hope for a quick return to the top flight was dashed by the midway point of the 96/97 Segunda campaign. With the club sitting in 9th, the club decided to rehire Jesus in February to try to recreate the magic of the 94/95 campaign. Despite his best efforts, the Portuguese could only bring the club up to 4th - four points from the promotion places - and in January 1998 Jesus was let go. Felgueiras continued life in the second tier as an upper midtable side up until the turn of the millennium. It was around this time that the club would become caught up in a corruption scandal. In an investigation into the then mayor of Felgueiras Fátima Felgueiras (yes that is her name) was opened in January 2000 after a complaint was sent to Portugal's Public Prosecution Service the previous month regarding illicit relations between the city council and the club. It was alleged that Fátima had been illegally using municipal funds to finance Felgueiras since 1995 (which lasted until 2002) as the club began having financial difficulties. This case was a part of what would become a much larger affair which saw Fátima get charged with 30 counts of embezzlement and abuse of power among other things (side note: she was eventually acquitted of all charges).
The scandal would ultimately contribute to Felgueiras' demise. Upon the discovery of the scandal, the club's on field performances almost immediately tanked; after finishing 7th in the 1999-00 season, Felgueiras dropped to 15th in 2000-01. The next few seasons saw the club struggle to avoid relegations, all while experiencing financial turmoil as debts to both former players in the form of overdue wages and to the
Segurança Social continued to mount. Results did manage to improve, finishing 11th in the 03/04 and 04/05 Segunda Liga campaigns, but the poor financial status of the club saw them administratively relegated by the FPF at the end of the 04/05 season. Even worse, the club failed to acquire a license to play in the now third tier Segunda Divisão, and thus were also blocked from participating in the 05/06 campaign. Unable to find a solution to their problems, the members of Felgueiras decided to dissolve the club in the summer of 2005. In the wake of Felgueiras' extinction, two new clubs were formed in the city the following year: Club Académico de Felgueiras and FCF Felgueiras. In 2013, the two clubs decided to merge together to form Futebol Clube de Felgueiras 1932, who today play in Liga 3.

- Founded: 1912
- Time in the Primeira Liga: 1995-1998 (Three seasons)
- Other seasons: 1941-42 (One season)
- Current Status: Campeonato de Portugal (4th Tier)
Born in the town of Leça de Palmeira in March 1912, Leça Futebol Clube had a somewhat turbulent beginning. In the first few years of its existence, the club participated in various private exhibitions, but didn't become a member of the Porto Football Association (also formed in 1912). In 1916 the future of the club became extremely uncertain; many of the club's most important players either moved to other clubs or were drafted into the Portuguese military following the country's entry into World War I. Leça ceased operations that year, and for a time it was unclear if the club would return in any capacity. Eventually they did, returning in 1922 (the year being dubbed as the "Ano da Reorganizãço" or "Year of Reorganizing") and officially joining the AFP that same year. Soon enough, the club would become a fixture in the Porto top flight, and even earning it entry to five consecutive Campeonato de Portugal's between 1927 to 1932, though they only made it as far as the quarter-finals. Following the establishment of the national leagues in 1934, Leça mostly found themselves as a mainstay in the second division, though they did once qualify for the Primeira Divisão in 1941. Given the amateur status of most of their players then, the club did not perform well and finished bottom of the 41/42 standings. Following that excursion, the club mostly played in the lower national leagues with a few instances of falling back into the district leagues. Fast-forward to 1991, Leça were relegated to the then 4th tier Terceira, but back-to-back promotions would bring the club up to the Segunda Honra. The 93/94 season saw
Os Leceiros finish eighth, but in 94/95 the club would have an excellent albeit heavily contested season. In what ended up as a five horse race for promotion, Leça would stand above all others. Despite losing to Amora in game 33 of the campaign, results elsewhere confirmed the club's spot in the Primeira, and thanks to a 4-0 win over Académica de Coimbra in the final game of the season, they would enter the top flight as second division champions.
The 1995-96 Primeira season would be a struggle for Leça. After a loss and a draw against Gil Vicente and Chaves respectively, the club earned their first win after defeating Felgueiras away 2-1. Consecutive defeats to Porto, Boavista, and Braga saw the club dip into the relegation zone for the first time, and while they briefly escaped the drop with a draw and a win over Campomaiorense and Farense respectively, another string of three defeats (this time to Benfica, União de Leiria, and Marítimo) pulled them right back in. A 3-1 win over Tirense would again bring them up to safety, but from this point on Leça rarely looked back. Even despite not having the best results (such as losing 5-0 to Belenenses twice), Leça had the benefit of the clubs below them simply performing worse than them. The club even managed to earn a couple of favorable results against members of the Big Three, drawing Benfica 0-0 on matchday 26 and drawing Sporting 1-1 in the final game of the season - a draw which officially guaranteed Leça's participation in the 96/97 season as they finished in 14th with 34 points (9-7-18 record), though they were only one point away from relegation. In a few ways the 1996-97 season was an improvement. For one, they opened the season with a 3-0 win over Leiria which actually took them to the top of the table. Of course, this is matchday one we're talking about and sure enough the club did drop off. Yet the club earned enough good results (including getting revenge over Belenenses 4-0) to even be in contention for a UEFA Cup spot. The good form wouldn't last, however, and soon enough they would once again be embroiled in a relegation scrap. But on the bright side, the club at no point in the season ever fell into the bottom three, once again finishing 14th.
Leça's best top flight campaign would come in the 97/98 season, though they did not start it well at all. The club failed to win any of their first six games, and sure enough it looked as if
Os Leceiros were strapping themselves in for another relegation scrap. But in a turn of events, Leça would turn their season around, beginning with a 1-0 victory over Académica de Coimbra in late November. After a 2-2 draw to Rio Ave, Leça upset Sporting 1-0 at home, and by matchday 18 the club had climbed as high as sixth in the table. Once again, however, a chance at a UEFA Cup spot would be squandered, and while the club spent most of the rest of the season midtable, they suffered a bad string of results at the end, going winless in their last seven games capped off by a 7-1 demolition at the hands of Benfica at the Estádio da Luz. Poor end to the campaign notwithstanding, Leça landed themselves in 12th and it was clear that visible progress was being made. Now, astute readers will notice that at the top it says that Leça left the Primeira in 1998, despite them having their best finish. So what happened? Well, scandal is what happened. In the middle of the season, it came to light that back in June 1993 (when Leça were in the third tier), Leça's president Manuel Rodrigues had bribed referee José Guímaro to the tune of 500,000 Portuguese escudo (~€6,231 or $6,816 in today's money) before a game against Académico de Viseu in the Segunda B championship playoffs. Leça won the game 3-0 and went on to win the league title. The case went to court in October 1996, and Rodrigues and Guimaro were both found guilty and sentenced to 15 and 12 months in prison respectively, though both sentences would be suspended by the Supreme Court of Justice after an appeal. Originally, the FPF dismissed the case as nothing more than an attempt at corruption and only gave Leça a 3-point penalty to start the 97/98 season (they still would have survived, though on goal difference). However, on July 23rd 1998 the FPF changed their decision and instead ordered that Leça be relegated to the Segunda Honra due to the Quinhentinhos case.
The disqualification from the Primeira Divisão would be the beginning of a tumultuous period for Leça. Several key players would depart the club following their relegation, most notably striker Constantino Jardim - a consistent top scorer in the top flight - who departed for Spanish side Levante. Despite this, the club were still seen as heavy favorites for an immediate comeback. They did not achieve this, finishing 5th in the second division, five points off of the promotion spots. Subsequent campaigns would only see deteriorating results, and the club's financial situation would also begin to decline rapidly as the corruption problem at the head would persist long after the departure of Rodrigues. Several of Leça's subsequent presidents embezzled money out of the club for their own personal benefit, which resulted in mounting debts to the players, coaching staff, and Segurança Social. Many players over time would depart the club due to lack of pay, and bringing in players became extremely difficult given how unattractive Leça, now on the brink of extinction, have become. The club barely managed to register for the Segunda Honra in time for the 2002-03 season, and the club would suffer back-to-back relegations, landing in the Terceira Divisão in 2004. It took three seasons for
Os Leceiros to return to the Segunda B, only to get relegated after just a season. Leça remained in the Terceira until 2013 when they were relegated to Porto's elite district division following the dissolution of the old fourth division, not returning to the national divisions until 2018 when they won promotion to the Campeonato de Portugal. In the 2020-21 season, Leça came extremely close to winning promotion to Liga Portugal 2, which would've ended a 18 year absence from the division. However, in the final game of the regular season, the club lost 2-1 to Amarante while Trofense defeated USC Paredes, causing Leça to lose top spot in their series and thus have to go to the Liga 3 qualification series. Leça finished second in their playoff behind São João de Ver but ahead of Sanjoanense and Gondomar, meaning that they would qualify for the new third division. But after failing to provide valid licensing to compete in the inaugural Liga 3 season, their promotion was denied by the FPF, and the spot was given to Sanjoanense instead, meaning that Leça will remain in the now 4th tier Campeonato. A bright spot in the club's recent history was their run in the 2021-22 Taça de Portugal. There, Leça (a 4th tier side, mind you) made it all the way to the quarter-finals, even defeating Primeira Liga sides Arouca and Gil Vicente before finally falling to Sporting. Leça to date has managed five consecutive seasons in the Campeonato, but in 2023-24 they will play in the district championships after they failed to avoid relegation from the fourth tier this season.

2023.05.18 13:06 GotMoFans State Rep. Mark White (R-East Memphis/Germantown) gives an editorial in the Daily Memphian: “The disease of undisciplined youth” - Meanwhile the state does nothing to help Memphis with poverty, health care, etc.
Guest opinion State Representative Mark White As a resident of the city of Memphis since 1966, I have grown to love the many qualities of this great city we call home.
We have faced many challenges in our history, one being the yellow fever epidemic of 1878. This was a disease that could not be seen, but it ravaged and caused tremendous devastation in our community.
Today, we have another disease, one that we can see. It is the disease of undisciplined youth, many of whom should be in school and off the streets at night but are out wreaking havoc in our community with no regard for our laws.
But this letter is not to make excuses for the current lawless disease infecting our community — it is a call to action.
It is time to draw the line in the sand and demand this way of life to stop. We, as law-abiding citizens, will not be held hostage in our homes and businesses by these few unlawful criminals and their blatant disregard for our laws and who continue their rampage of crime in our community.
With drag racing, carjackings, car thefts, armed robberies — some resulting in death of victims — murders, etc., being reported every day in our city, we are well past the time of “we need to rehabilitate our youth,” as that is not a deterrent or reason for these criminals to stop their crimes.
It is time to put discipline, correction and punishment into place so these criminals will know there will be consequences if they continue to inflict their heinous actions upon our community.
My colleagues and I who represent Shelby County in Nashville have been working on tougher laws to address juvenile crime. But our laws are not being enforced by our judicial system in Shelby County.
Like most issues, these crimes are being committed by a small group of repetitive criminals. Our law enforcement officers are to be highly commended for doing their job, but after arrests are made, these criminals are put right back on the street to continue their criminal activities.
This must stop.
Today, I call upon those charged with the responsibility of keeping our community safe to change course, as this current system is not working.
I call upon our Shelby County District Attorney General's office, our Juvenile Court system, our Criminal Courts, our city and elected officials and Judicial Commissioners to hold these criminals accountable and put the law-abiding citizens first.
Work on instructing our youth on obeying our laws and the consequences of entering criminal life before they are involved in a life of crime and work on rehabilitating the criminals during and after they are serving their punishment for crimes they have committed.
We, the Tennessee General Assembly, have been called back into session on Aug. 21 to address community safety. I will be drafting legislation to bypass local authority if we do not see change by those sworn to protect us from this current lawlessness.
Until the criminals know there will be consequences for their actions, we will not see change.
Finally, to all the many law-abiding citizens and business owners in Memphis and Shelby County, thank you for your efforts to help make and keep Memphis the city we all love.
Stand firm, pray for our community and its leaders to help us resolve this unacceptable way of life and return to a law-abiding, peaceful, united community.
We cannot stand by and allow a few unlawful citizens to destroy what we so cherish: the right to live without fear in our beloved city.
Couple notes: Mark White voted to expel Justin Pearson, who represents South Memphis/Whitehaven and is directly experienced in the problems White is angry about.
Mark White does not support expanding Medicaid which would allow more poor Memphians to get proper health care.
Mark White does not support creating a state minimum wage which defaults to the Federal $7.25/hr.
The state took over several public schools and had no improvement compared to MCS/MSCS run schools. The schools were quietly given back to the local system after a decade of no significant results from state management. The state is infamously intertwined with the private prison industry and there have been incidents of juveniles being funneled to facilities needlessly to help those numbers.

| Renter without AC for two weeks ends up at the hospital MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman on oxygen and with several health conditions says she ended up at the hospital over the weekend because her landlord failed to repair her air conditioning unit. “I have congestive heart failure. I’m a diabetic. I have asthma. I have COPD, arthritis, epilepsy, and I’m bipolar,” said Georgette Patterson. “I also have stage three kidney disease.” I am constantly seeing articles similar to the one above and it seems they're becoming even more frequent. I've got a soft spot for seniors and this enrages me. Last year, FOX13-Memphis published an article insinuating that Tennessee renters do not have a right to air conditioning. That's is absolutely not true. While there is only legislation that dictates that a "dwelling have a winter temperature of at least 68 degrees, ... § 1200-1-2-.04". There is also this; https://preview.redd.it/807v4xwiik0b1.png?width=657&format=png&auto=webp&s=2df17686620e2f515067decf47037611b17efb12 Residential Landlord and Tenant Act - 66-28-103 - Essential Services Failure To Supply ... (a (1)) If the landlord deliberately or negligently fails to supply essential services, the tenant shall give written notice to the landlord... The legislation goes on to define "essential services"; (3 "Essential services" means utility services, including gas, heat, electricity, and any other obligation imposed upon the landlord which materially affect the health and safety of the tenant.) So, even though there is not legislation dictating what the acceptable temperatures are in the summer, as you can see, there is legislation that dictates a unit must be healthy, safe, and habitable. When the temperature starts getting up into the 80's, any reasonable judge would conclude this is not healthy, safe, or habitable in this modern day and age. Something I like to cite and have even done so in court, is the standards for nursing homes, assisted living, and other long-term care facilities for seniors, is; (g Maintain temperatures in resident sleeping units and common areas at not less than 65°F and no more than 85°F.) https://preview.redd.it/t20o11ocik0b1.png?width=884&format=png&auto=webp&s=80f115dc00d6876c78fe4fa8ebc3091fe2104729 I know your typical apartment or house is not a senior living center and that this law does not apply here, but it kind of puts the acceptable limits into perspective, most notably if the tenant is a senior citizen. This is what I do for a living. I maintain senior living facilities in Memphis and I also perform emergency maintenance work for several apartment complexes. Over the years I have learned that calling slumlords over and over again to report air conditioning troubles typically results in nothing being done. The best and technically the only real course of action for a tenant, is to send the slumlord a letter. I know it can take several days for a letter to arrive but the legislation specifically states the tenant must give written notice. Send the letter via priority mail, that way you have proof the letter was sent and received. In the letter make sure you clearly state the temperature inside, how long it's been like that, how many times you have previously contacted them, and cite these pieces of legislation. If your lease mentions anything about temperatures or air conditioning, make sure to cite that also. You do want to call a couple times to inform them of the issue and give them a chance to fix it but any longer than one day is completely unacceptable. Make sure to document the exact dates the air conditioner was not functioning, the temperature everyday, and each correspondence you've had with the slumlord. A proper letter lets them know you mean business and that you know how to navigate the legal system. Most of the time, the letter gets the ball rolling. If you need help with the letter, HMU in chat. Y'all keep an eye on those children and seniors, the heats coming. submitted by memphisgrit to memphis [link] [comments] |

Aloof teenage Japanese tourists, a frazzled Italian widow, and a disgruntled British immigrant all converge in the city of dreams—which, in Mystery Train, from Jim Jarmusch, is Memphis. Made with its director’s customary precision and wit, this triptych of stories pays playful tribute to the home of Stax Records, Sun Studio, Graceland, Carl Perkins, and, of course, the King, who presides over the film like a spirit. Mystery Train is one of Jarmusch’s very best movies, a boozy and beautiful pilgrimage to an iconic American ghost town and a paean to the music it gave the world

2023.05.16 13:14 calicocatface Trident A-Range: Tracking the recording history and movement of all 13 consoles
I'm assembling a history of all 13 Trident A-Range consoles, their studios and albums recorded on them. I believe there's a lot of misinformation that's been put out there -- by Trident, Malcolm Toft, MTA, PMI Audio, and even UA and Softube. I feel bad for Sound Techniques, who had their "A Range" console name stolen and usurped by Trident, and now the trademark for it is owned by PMI Audio.
Index
I - Sound Techniques, Trident Studios II - Cherokee, Quad Sound, Smart Studios III - Le Studio, Bennett House, New Monkey IV - Sweet Silence, Avast!, Bomb Factory and more V - The Barn, American Recording/Emblem Studio
Unlucky 13 There were 13 original Trident Studios A-Ranges. Allegedly
only 5 or
6 survive.
According to
this comment there were 2 production runs. The first 6 and second 7. This is in line with the 2 different schematics for the Trident A-Range. A 1038 channel strip from 1973 (
gutshot,
schematic, and a 2038 channel strip from 1975 (
gutshot,
schematic).
- #1 40 input/. Trident Studios, London, UK '71 > Matrix Studios -'76/77-? > Cherokee '83-? > Long View Farm Studios, North Brookfield, MA '00-'09 > Studio 3, EastWest, Hollywood, CA '09-present (Source, Source)
Gwyn Mathias says the original desk went to Matrix Studios, London. Ken Scott said it ended up in pieces in Vermont. See bottom of post for more info.
- #2, 1st production Trident A-Range - Crown Records, Tokyo - current fate unknown Source
The first "Production" A Range was built for Crown Records in Tokio, and I believe the EQs were tweaked for that, and then the design stayed. I think the Crown desk may also have had the old-fashioned telephone-style (STC ?) illuminated mute switches (Source)
The mute switch is an STC/Plessey standard telephone-type switch. These were used in the first couple of B Ranges, too, and just might have been used in the first production A Range for Crown Records, Tokyo (Source)
- #3, 2nd production Trident A-Range - 28 input/8 bus. Le Studio, Quebec '74 > Bennet House, TN > Elliott Smith's New Monkey, Van Nuys, CA ~00/02-present (Source)
- 20 input. 24 out. Sweet Silence Studios, Denmark Spring '76-'23 (Source) > Kungsten Studios, Gothenberg, Sweden '23-present (Source: email from Flemming Rasmussen)
- 30 x 24 Trident A-Range mixer. 2038 channel strip. Chipping Norton ~75/77-80 > Henry Hirsch @ Waterfront Studios (It's been referred to as the Lenny Kravitz's A-Range, but he never actually owned it) ~'93-98 (Source) > Takeshi Kobayashi in Tokyo, Japan ~'02 > AES Pro Audio ~08 > Paul Stacey ~09 > 5db Studio, West London '21-present (Source)
- Richie Goldberg (Johannesburg - can't remember the name of the company/studio) - it's possible that this is the very one Cherokee bought through a broker, currently unconfirmed
- 48 monitor. Trident Remix room console/Trident Studio A > Image Recorders, Santa Monica Blvd ~'00/01 (Source) > Formula One Studios, Phoenix, AZ (Source) ~'00/01-04 > sold to a friend ~'04 (Source)
- 32 input (Source) 1975 Studio Rosenberg in Denmark (Source) > Bomb Factory, LA, CA (Source) > Control Room A, Studio Bell, National Music Center in Calgary, Canada (Source)
- Cherokee ( the first Cherokee console). (Source)
- 48 input/24 bus. Cherokee's 1st A-Range - Studio 3, still at Cherokee Studios, LA. (Source, Source)
In the Produce Like a Pro Cherokee Studio tour
Bruce Robb says he believes their modified 48 channel console is the first Trident they bought, whoever
this comment says the South African broker sold Trident A-Range was the one that was modified and expanded.
- Cherokee's South African broker bought w/ additional inputs added, Cherokee's 3rd Trident Studio 1, still at Cherokee Studios, LA
- 36 input Cherokee's 2nd Trident > unused for 10 years > Olympic (Source) > Studio A, Avast!, Seattle, WA (Source)
- [#13] 40 input/24 bus. "Old Blue" Cherokee's 4th Trident @ Studio 2 '75-83 > Quad Sound Studio, Nashville, TN '83-99 > Smart Studios, WI from '99-10 (Source) > private buyer in LA as of ~'12/13 (Source)
- 40 input. Randy Bachman's 'The Barn' Studio, Bellingham, WA > '85-'12 American Recording, Calabasas CA '85 > Emblem '06-'12 > renamed American Recording '12 (Source)
What is in a name? A brief history Sound Techniques started as a recording studio in Chelsea, London in 1965. The Sound Techniques' A-Range was built by Geoff Frost and John Wood from 1964-1971, only 14 were ever made. (
Source)
The original Sound Techniques A-Range at Trident Studios was used to record "Hey Jude, 3 tracks off of the White Album, all the early Elton John stuff, all the early Bowie stuff, all the early Queen stuff, Rolling Stones Carly Simon, America"
from Ken Scott himself.
Trident Studios Trident Studios started in 1967 in St Anne's Court, Soho, London.
Their Sound Techniques' A-Range - the
5th A-Range console made by Sound Techniques. It was built in late 1967. Installed at Trident in early 1968.
According to Ken Scott it lived in the recording room for around 18 months before being moved to the mix room, being replaced by another Sound Techniques A-Range.
Everything at Trident Studio from 1968 to 1971 was also recorded
AND mixed on this desk. Afterwards and until late 1976, everything was mixed on this particular Sound Techniques desk. (

In 1971 "the [Trident] engineering team at the venerable studio facility decided to create their very own console" (
Source,
Source)
All original Trident produced Trident A-Range consoles featured an aubergine colour (
Source%20color)) and a Belclere (not Bellclaire) Zutt012a input transformer. (

The original Trident A-Range desk "had 24-way McMurdo Red Range connectors on the channels." (
Source)
"the Trident studio board - really the prototype and with 24 -way McMurdo Red Range connectors on the channels instead of the later 32-way ones on the production boards )
I prototype-wired the first "proper" A-Range channel, physically designed and made the Loom board for the manufacture of the input channel looms, moved on to wiring the console frames, and ended up responsible for the manufacturing wiring shop at the North Road factory..." (
Source)
"From memory it had Seidel (sp?) faders... Subsequent A Range boards all had P & Gs."
(Source) "I asked Malcolm about when the A and B Range consoles came out and he said... "the first A Range was in fact manufactured at the end of 1971." (
Source)
"Malcolm has helped me as well with some good input on this, but more details change the date a bit. There were once claims saying 1970, but I have been digging very deep into A-Range history. While they may have completed some circuits/modules for the desk in 1971, the finished console seems to have been completed later in 1972, and was installed mid/late 1972 at St Anne's Court, to replace the Sound Techniques console. There is a December 1971 photo of the chassis being wired, so some circuits were complete, but not the whole console. In summer of 1972, they had done press about the "just completed" desk with new photos before the install. It seems quite unlikely to wait 8-10 months to install something like that. Bowie's
Aladdin Sane was one of the first records done on the new console, October 1972." (
Source)
"Trident installed the first A-Range in the main studio in 1972 and moved the Sound Techniques A-Range console that was in that room into the mix room." (
Source)
Albums and timeline 1968 - The Beatles - Hey Jude - recorded at Trident Studios on the Sound Techniques' A-Range.
1971 - America - Self titled album
1971 - Harry Nilsson - Nilsson Schmilsson
1972 - Harry Nilsson - Son of Schmilsson
"There is an announcement of the new console in May of 72 at APRS Convention in London"
1972 - David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
- In a MIX Magazine article from 2009 (I believe the March issue) Ken Scott said Ziggy was recorded on Trident's A-Range and mixed on the ST A-Range. (Source)
1972 Savoy Brown - Lion's Share (
Source)
1972 - Elton John - Honky Chateau
- We did a few more overdubs at Trident after we finished in France. For the overdubs, we would have used a Sound Techniques board (Source)
Actually tracked on the Trident A-Range: 1972, October - David Bowie - Aladdin Sane (
Source,
Source)
"By October 73 the Trident console is already installed at Trident"
1973 - Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
- Overdubs. Tambourine on "All The Girls Love Alice", orchestral parts on 6 songs and the first 1m40s of Funeral for a Friend recorded at Trident possibly on the Trident A-Range, but certainly mixed on Sound Techniques' A-Range (Source, Source)
1973 - Chris Darrow - Self titled
1973 - Home - Alchemist
1974 - Jimmy Webb - Land's End
1974 - Mick Ronson - Slaughter on 10th Avenue
1974 - Peter Hammill - The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage (
Source)
1974 - Supertramp - Crime of the Century
1974 Trident visited AES in New York
- "Malcolm further added to the allure surrounding the A-Range desk in 1974 by attending the AES convention in New York City." (Source)
- "The first of the "Production" A Range modules to be exhibited at a show with 32-way connectors on the channels was actually a mock-up, wired any and every which way - as the AES was literally in a day or two and Barry Porter had no time to make any sort of draft wiring documentation out for it . Hence although switches had the correct number of wires on them etc., and all the circuit board pins had wires soldered to them, the wires went nowhere in particular...
- I know this because I did an allnighter and wired that channel myself, with Jeff King the #2 in R & D staying and feeding me coffee.... This wasn't an easy job at all, because wire colours had to be chosen to make it look credible, and it had to be able to pass muster against inspection by pros. I had to hand-lace the loom in situ with waxed lacing twine - the later looms were all made on the loom-boards with nails, which I made after the wiring had been finalized.
- The dummy channel was then taken more or less the next day for its first outing at the AES in LA." (Source)
- "I sat up all night first with Barry Porter , and then with Jeff King ( #2 in R & D) faking-up the wiring of the very first A Range channel taken to the AES in LA. It was a total dummy - switches had to have the appropriate numbers of wires in the appropriate places, but were going via the Loom to random destinations. This was a really hard task to make visually credible actually - necessitated by the fact there was no time to get a functional channel sorted before the AES date as the parts were delivered at the last moment." (Source)
Production started - Crown Records, Tokyo "this was the first "production" A Range board built at the North Rd factory after the original first A Range had been built at Trident Studios and installed there" (Source)
- 1974 (Source) Le Studio. Morin Heights Quebec, Canada. The "second of the production consoles" (Source)
- 1976 Spring (Source) Sweet Silence Studios, Denmark
- Either 1975 (Source) or 1977 (Source) Chipping Norton. 30 x 24 Trident A-Range mixer
- Richie Goldberg (Johannesburg - can't remember the name of the company/studio)
- Trident Remix room console ( this has to have been the one referred to in an earlier post as being in " Trident Studio A" - after the Sheffield brothers had sold the studio I went there and did some overdubs and mixes on it for The Ruts, which would have been probably 1981-82, and the board was still upstairs in the remix room at St Annes Court then).
- Cherokee (the first Cherokee console). (Source)
1976/77 Trident Studios remodeled, original tracking Trident A-Range desk sold to Matrix Studios (
Source) and replaced it "with a TSM, and also the Sound Techniques in the mix room with a bigger TSM"
- On a funny note, as we were ripping out the mix room (this was the first time it had ever been re-equipped) we discovered that the ST desk was plugged into a 13amp wall socket with the fuse replaced by a sawn off 6 inch nail. Talk about potential fire hazard, but it obviously got the job done, right? (Source)
1981 closed as of November (
Source)
1983 Trident opened under new ownership (
Source)
1985 - The Cure - Close to Me
1986 - Blow Monkeys - Digging Your Scene
- "Those were the two records that shaped my career, so the A-Range is always special to me" - Adam Moseley (Source)
Fate of Trident's original two Sound Techniques A-Range consoles "One of them (I didn't know there were two) was in pieces in cardboard boxes in a corner of the production area of the Trident North Road factory for years." - Gwyn Mathias, former module wireman @ Trident Studios (
Source)
Fate of the original Trident A-Range "I am positive that dealer Don Larking had the prototype from St Anne's Court at one point and sold it. I think that original A range was the one in Matrix in Little Russell St near the British museum. I recorded on it several times at Matrix, and can remember having to swap out a monitor module as the bass end was non-existent on it, but I can't remember how many pins the connector had. I will ask Don Larking and see if he remembers anything about it!" (
Source)
"The original, and I do mean ORIGINAL, the one from Trident, is in pieces in Vermont." -
