2023.06.08 10:00 Carzbot How to Maintain and Drive a Diesel Car: Essential Tips for Optimal Performance

As the automotive industry faces tighter emission regulations and a shift towards cleaner alternatives, diesel cars have faced some scrutiny. However, in countries like India, diesel cars remain popular, particularly in the SUV segment. To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your diesel vehicle, it is important to follow certain guidelines. In this article, we will provide five key tips on how to drive and maintain a diesel car effectively.

Refuel with Caution:

Driving on low fuel is a practice that should be avoided, regardless of whether you have a petrol or diesel car. With diesel cars, it is even more crucial due to their unique characteristics. Diesel acts as a lubricant for critical engine components, and running on low fuel levels can lead to increased friction and potential damage. Moreover, inadequate fuel levels may cause the fuel pump to draw air instead of diesel, harming the engine. To ensure the health of your diesel car, always drive with a sufficient level of fuel in the tank.

Allow the Engine to Warm Up:

Regardless of the type of car, cold revving can be detrimental to the engine. It is essential to give your diesel engine some time to warm up before pushing it. Cold revving can lead to premature wear and tear of critical components such as pistons, piston rings, valves, and cylinders. By allowing the engine to warm up, you give the oil time to circulate and provide proper lubrication, ensuring better long-term performance and durability.

Optimal RPM Range:

Driving at low RPM (revolutions per minute) in high gears, commonly known as lugging, can cause significant damage to the engine and transmission. This practice places excessive pressure on the engine, resulting in premature wear and reduced longevity. Always adhere to the recommended RPM range provided by the manufacturer. Shifting gears appropriately will ensure smooth performance and extend the lifespan of your diesel car.

Maintain a Clean Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF):

The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) plays a vital role in reducing harmful emissions from your diesel vehicle. It is important to keep the DPF clean through regular maintenance and servicing. Over time, the DPF can accumulate soot and particulate matter, leading to a loss in power, performance, and fuel efficiency. Neglecting the cleanliness of the DPF can have long-term consequences on the engine. Therefore, it is essential to schedule periodic inspections and cleaning to keep your diesel car in optimal condition.

Pay Attention to Exhaust Smoke:

Ignoring the presence of smoke from your diesel car's exhaust can be a costly mistake. While it is normal for some vapor to be emitted during cold weather conditions, excessive smoke in regular conditions indicates a problem with the powertrain. Dark smoke may indicate issues such as excessive fuel consumption, faulty injectors, or engine-related problems. White smoke often suggests coolant leakage, while blue smoke can be a sign of oil burning. If you notice any abnormal smoke from your exhaust, it is recommended to have your vehicle inspected by a professional.

Conclusion

Diesel cars continue to hold a significant market share in India, especially in the SUV segment. To ensure the longevity, performance, and efficiency of your diesel vehicle, it is crucial to follow these five key tips. By driving with an adequate fuel level, allowing the engine to warm up, maintaining the optimal RPM range, keeping the DPF clean, and paying attention to exhaust smoke, you can maximize the lifespan and reliability of your diesel car. Remember, a well-maintained diesel car can provide you with a smooth and enjoyable driving experience for years to come.

The Ultimate Guide to Foundation Repairs in Boston: Everything You Need to Know
The foundation is the most crucial structural element of any building, providing support and stability. A strong foundation ensures the longevity and safety of a structure. However, over time, foundations can develop issues that require attention and repairs. If you are a homeowner in Boston facing foundation problems, it's essential to have a comprehensive understanding of foundation repairs.
In this ultimate guide, we will cover everything you need to know about foundation repairs in Boston.

Understanding Foundation Repairs

Importance of a Strong Foundation

A strong foundation is vital for the stability and integrity of a building. It distributes the weight of the structure evenly, preventing structural damage and ensuring the safety of occupants. A compromised foundation can lead to serious issues, including structural instability, cracks in walls, uneven floors, and more. Timely foundation repairs are crucial to avoid further damage and costly repairs down the line.

Common Foundation Issues

Several factors can contribute to foundation problems. Some common issues include:
  • Cracks in Walls and Floors: Visible cracks can indicate foundation settlement or shifting.
  • Uneven Floors: Sagging or sloping floors can signal foundation issues.
  • Sticking Doors and Windows: Foundation movement can cause doors and windows to stick or become difficult to open or close.
  • Sloping or Bowing Walls: Walls that lean or bow are signs of foundation problems.
  • Water Leakage in the Basement: Excess moisture or water in the basement can result from foundation cracks or poor drainage.

Signs of Foundation Problems

It's crucial to be able to recognize the signs of foundation problems early on. Identifying these signs can help you take prompt action and prevent further damage to your home. Look out for the following indicators:

Cracks in Walls and Floors

One of the most common signs of foundation issues is the presence of cracks in walls, floors, or ceilings. These cracks can appear horizontally, vertically, or in a stair-step pattern.

Uneven Floors

If you notice sloping or uneven floors in your home, it could indicate foundation settlement or shifting. Pay attention to any noticeable dips or rises in different areas of your floor.

Sticking Doors and Windows

Foundation movement can cause doors and windows to stick or become difficult to open and close. If you're struggling with sticking doors or windows, it may be time to inspect your foundation.
Foundation Problems in Boston

Sloping or Bowing Walls

Walls that lean or bow inward or outward are clear signs of foundation problems. If you notice any unusual wall movements, it's important to address them promptly.

Water Leakage in the Basement

Excess moisture or water in the basement can be a result of foundation cracks or poor drainage. Keep an eye out for dampness, mold growth, or standing water in your basement.

Causes of Foundation Problems

Understanding the causes of foundation problems can help you take preventive measures and make informed decisions about repairs. Here are some common causes:

Soil Issues

Expansive clay soils, prevalent in many areas of Boston, can lead to foundation issues. These soils expand when wet and contract when dry, exerting pressure on the foundation. Soil erosion and poor compaction during construction can also contribute to foundation problems.

Poor Construction Techniques

Inadequate foundation design and poor construction techniques can compromise the integrity of the foundation. Insufficient reinforcement, improper concrete mix, and subpar workmanship can all lead to foundation issues over time.

Plumbing Leaks

Undetected plumbing leaks beneath the foundation can cause soil erosion and lead to foundation settlement or movement. Regular plumbing inspections and repairs are essential for maintaining a healthy foundation.

Types of Foundation Repairs

Foundation repairs can vary depending on the extent of the damage and the underlying cause. Here are some common methods used by foundation repair contractors:

Slab Jacking

Slab jacking, also known as mud jacking, is a technique used to lift and level settled concrete slabs. It involves injecting a specialized grout mixture beneath the slab to raise it back to its original position.

Piering and Underpinning

Piering and underpinning methods are used to stabilize foundations that have settled or shifted. Steel piers or helical piers are installed deep into the ground to reach stable soil layers and provide support to the foundation.

Foundation Replacement

In severe cases of foundation damage, complete foundation replacement may be necessary. This involves demolishing the existing foundation and constructing a new one. Foundation replacement is typically the last resort when other repair methods are not feasible.
Foundation Repairs

Hiring a Foundation Repair Contractor

When it comes to foundation repairs, it's crucial to hire a qualified and experienced contractor. Here are some steps to follow when selecting a foundation repair contractor:

Researching and Shortlisting Contractors

Start by researching reputable foundation repair contractors in your area. Look for companies with a good reputation, positive customer reviews, and a track record of successful projects.

Requesting Estimates and Comparing Prices

Contact several contractors and request estimates for the repairs. Compare the prices, but keep in mind that the lowest bid may not always be the best option. Consider the contractor's expertise, experience, and the quality of materials and methods they propose.

Checking Licenses and Insurance

Ensure that the contractor holds the necessary licenses and permits required by local authorities. Additionally, verify that they have liability insurance and worker's compensation coverage to protect you and their employees during the project.

Reading Customer Reviews and Testimonials

Take the time to read customer reviews and testimonials about the contractor. This will give you insight into their professionalism, reliability, and the quality of their work. You can also ask for references and contact previous clients to inquire about their experience.

The Foundation Repair Process

Once you've hired a foundation repair contractor, the repair process typically involves the following steps:

Initial Inspection and Assessment

The contractor will conduct a thorough inspection of your foundation to assess the extent of the damage and identify the underlying cause. This evaluation helps determine the most suitable repair method.

Repair Method Selection

Based on the assessment, the contractor will recommend the appropriate repair method for your specific foundation issues. They will explain the process and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Preparing the Site

Before starting the repairs, the contractor will prepare the site by clearing any obstacles and protecting surrounding areas. This may involve excavating around the foundation or creating access points as needed.

Performing the Repairs

The chosen repair method will be implemented by the contractor and their team. This may involve injecting grout, installing piers, or other specialized techniques. The repairs are carried out with precision and care to restore the stability of the foundation.

Cleanup and Site Restoration

Once the repairs are completed, the contractor will clean up the site, removing any debris and restoring the area to its original condition. This may involve backfilling excavated areas, regrading the soil, and replanting landscaping if necessary.

Foundation Repair Costs in Boston

The cost of foundation repairs can vary significantly depending on various factors, including the severity of the damage, the chosen repair method, and the size of the foundation. Here are some key points to consider:

Factors Affecting the Cost

  • The extent of foundation damage
  • The complexity of the repair method
  • Accessibility to the foundation
  • Local labor and material costs

Average Cost of Different Repair Methods

  • Slab Jacking: The average cost for slab jacking repairs can range from $500 to $1,500 per slab, depending on the size and condition of the concrete.
  • Piering and Underpinning: This method can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 per pier, depending on the number of piers required.
  • Foundation Replacement: Complete foundation replacement costs can range from $20,000 to $100,000 or more, depending on the size and complexity of the project.
It's essential to obtain detailed estimates from multiple contractors to get an accurate idea of the costs involved in your specific case.

Preventive Measures for Foundation Health

To maintain the health of your foundation and minimize the risk of future issues, consider the following preventive measures:

Proper Drainage Systems

Ensure that your property has a well-designed and functional drainage system. Proper grading, gutters, downspouts, and drainage pipes will help divert water away from the foundation, reducing the chances of soil erosion and water-related damage.

Regular Maintenance and Inspections

Perform regular maintenance tasks such as keeping gutters clean, fixing plumbing leaks promptly, and addressing any signs of foundation problems as soon as they appear. Additionally, schedule professional inspections to catch any potential issues early on.

Soil Moisture Control

Maintaining stable soil moisture levels around the foundation is crucial. Avoid overwatering or allowing excessive dryness in the soil. Consider using soaker hoses or a sprinkler system with moisture sensors to ensure proper hydration without excessive moisture buildup.

The Benefits of Professional Foundation Repairs

Investing in professional foundation repairs offers several benefits:
  • Safety: Restoring the structural integrity of your foundation ensures the safety of your home and its occupants.
  • Longevity: Properly repaired foundations can extend the lifespan of your property, protecting your investment.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing that your foundation is stable and well-maintained brings peace of mind and eliminates concerns about potential damage.
By addressing foundation problems promptly and professionally, you can avoid further complications and costly repairs in the future.

Conclusion

A solid foundation is essential for the stability and longevity of any building. Understanding the signs, causes, and repair methods for foundation problems in Boston is crucial for homeowners. By hiring a reputable contractor and taking preventive measures, you can ensure the health and integrity of your foundation. Don't delay in addressing foundation issues, as timely repairs can save you from more extensive damage and costly repairs down the line.

2023.06.08 04:48 Mission_Emergency_36 I am 32 years old, a full time RN-BSN student, live in Texas, and currently make ~$535 monthly.

BACKGROUND
Long story short I spent 8 years on the West Coast holding increasingly important positions in the energy industry, but I hated it with every fiber of my being. I started taking nursing prerequisite courses in January of 2020. Family trauma happened. I moved home to Texas to be closer to my family, quit my job (was making ~$130k with bonus), and took the plunge and went to back to school for nursing at 31. I am half way done with an accelerated BSN program and I have a 4.0 GPA. I love it so much despite it being very difficult. I have externship currently and I have an ICU internship lined up for my final semester, which is basically a guaranteed new grad job.
I currently live with my mom and brother. We are remodeling our house so we are in an apartment for a bit. Very tight quarters but thankful to be with them. Boyfriend just successfully made a big career move and is now a superintendent for an important and well respected organization in town making $60k annually with a 8% bonus. Very proud of him and very excited for our future - we are talking about getting engaged in the next year. He is getting an apartment in the next couple months after living at home with his family due to some major family health issues he has been helping out with so you will see some of the apartment search start to happen in this diary!
Currently boyfriend and I split going out expenses pretty much down the line, but with this new job we had a discussion last week about how he will pay for the majority of our going out costs moving forward once he gets his first paycheck this month until I start working full time again in January!
Previous money diary from August 2022 here.
ASSETS (comparing last money diary to now):

August 2022 June 2023 Difference
401k $156,400 $158,600 $2,200
Roth IRA $68,000 $68,500 (500)
Saving's account $41,001.43 $26,572.63 ($14,428.81)
Checking Account $3,024.58 $915.41 ($2,109)
HSA $8,800 $7,100 ($1,700)
Brokerage $440 $444 $4
UGMA $85,000 $84,000 ($1,000)
Pension forgot to include $27,000 N/A
NET WORTH: $373k
**I don’t carry any credit card debt / no student loan debt / no equity in any kind of home. I was lucky enough to be in a position where I saved up over $40k cash to pay for living expenses when in school. My UGMA account will be used as part of a down payment for a house in the next couple years. My current BSN degree is being covered through family. Also, trying to figure out what to do with my pension - depending how finances go the next 8 months I am in school / if I have any emergencies (I have 2 senior pets) I could cash part of it out or completely roll it over into an IRA.
INCOME
Income Progression: I worked in the energy industry for 8 years; my starting salary was $35,000.
I worked in the Seattle area starting out at $35k in 2014. Moved to a new job in 2016 for $65k and then another new job in 2018 for $85k +12% bonus. Got up to $104k + 20% bonus before I quit. Also worked as a CNA on the weekends for about 6 months for $15 an hour during COVID to make sure I really wanted to go to nursing school.
Main Job Monthly Take Home: It varies but the average so far this year it is $535. I have an incredibly flexible externship at a hospital very close to where I live where my director literally just lets me show up whenever I want to work. I make $17 an hour. I met a couple incredible mentors but I think I am going to quit soon since it just won’t be feasible to work this semester and I already have my ICU internship lined up for September. Trying to be easier on myself and put myself first and I feel very lucky that I don’t need to work. Don’t get me wrong the extra money is SO NICE but I want to concentrate on school, myself, family, partner, and friends. Work on top of an accelerated nursing program is too much. I am actually the only one working in my cohort currently.
Any Other Monthly Income Here: I live with my mom right now and she pays for most of the groceries, utilities, etc. I feel incredibly privileged and lucky that I can live with her and that she is able to support me in this way while I transition careers. I do lots for her to support her such as chores, errands, paying for big Costco runs, etc. My boyfriend also helps out with pet expenses and other things I want / need.
MONTHLY EXPENSES
I allocate the following to my biggest expense categories monthly:
WEDNESDAY - DAY 1
8:45: I slept 10 hours last night and it was glorious. I worked a 12 hour shift at the hospital yesterday and our patient acuity was very high.
9:30: Make a coffee and walk and feed my pup. I walk over to the pool for a morning swim. I love a quiet morning swim so much.
11:30: I had a nice 500 yd swim, drank a Premier Protein shake & ate overnight oats with blueberries for breakfast, had a relaxing shower, and started some laundry. Feeling anxious about everything I have on my plate currently. Also I feel hungover from work yesterday. I was going to work another 12 hour shift tomorrow but now I don’t know if I can handle it with school also starting on Friday and a very busy social weekend coming up. Luckily, my director literally lets me show up whenever I want so I may do 7 or 8 hours tomorrow instead of a full 12. Try to table my feelings to discuss in therapy this afternoon.
11:40: Sit down to finish some online orientation for my internship that is coming up my final semester.
13:03: Orientation stuff only took about 20 minutes thank god. I ran to the grocery store and grab a 4 pack of watermelon Celsius, frozen veggies, Eggo waffles, tea bags, string cheese, coffee filters, Wheat Thins, and lean ground beef ($37.01). Head up to the rooftop lounge at the apartment complex to FaceTime a friend that lives across the country since there is zero privacy in the apartment.
14:15: Get off FaceTime, work on some more laundry, and head out to therapy.
16:15: Good, productive, fun, and validating therapy session and I make it over to my friend’s condo to check on her kitties. I had set up a reoccurring biweekly therapy appointment now that I know my school schedule for the upcoming semester too. We talked about money fixation and anxiety and trying to let that go. We agree that I should sleep in a bit tomorrow, walk my dog, go for a swim, and then go to work. I don’t ~need~ the money so working 12 hours vs 7 or 8 is not an issue. My mental health is more important. Also the work hangover from yesterday is real.
17:00: Boyfriend comes over after work and jumps in the shower while I’m a couch potato (Disclaimer: he’s friends with my friend too and she’s 100% comfortable with him hanging out too.) We relax and hang with the kitties and catch up on our days.
18:45: We head to dinner. We grab burritos at one of our favorite local spots and I pay ($25.88). We look at houses for fun on Zillow and discuss what apartments we want to tour in the next couple weeks.
20:00: I make it home and have a long talk with my mom about her friend who ended up in the hospital today with a compound fracture. Long story short I’ll need to stay up until midnight to hand off the house keys, garage door opener, etc. to a friend who is driving into town that can take care of her dog. Her dog is a pit bull that is vicious to strangers so no one else can go over to the house other than this friend who pet sits and knows the dog.
23:30: The friend makes it and we hand him the keys and everything he needs. I had spent the evening tidying up and meal prepping and looking at more apartments. It’s amazing to me how much time goes into keeping a clean and tidy home.
12:08: I spent a half hour setting up my June budget and then pass out.
TOTAL: $62.89
THURSDAY - DAY 2
9:05: I finally wake up to a bunch of texts from multiple different friends / friend groups. Ugh. I’m just feeling really anxious about school starting tomorrow, my mom being very distraught over her colleague / friend, working today, and a busy weekend coming up. I make some coffee and walk my pup.
9:33: I call my mom while feeding my pup breakfast and tell her how I’m feeling and we both agreed I ran around too much last semester and I told her I am setting firm boundaries with myself to basically not do anything social during the school week once clinical start (Monday - Thursday) unless it’s like a super casual dinner and I truly have the capacity for it. I burned myself out at the end of last semester and spent weeks putting the pieces back together.
9:55: I make another cup of coffee and take myself for a morning swim. It brings me so much joy and grounds me. I swim 500 yards and then jump into the shower, throw my scrubs on, kiss my pup goodbye and head to the hospital. I drink a chocolate Primer Protein shake and call my friend L on the way to hear how her trip has been going so far. It was nice to catch up even though we saw each other over the weekend lol.
10:54: Ate my overnight oats made with half and half and some blueberries, clocked in, and headed out to the floor. Immediately get asked to be a sitter which literally never happens. Thank you universe. Feeling a little less anxious now that I’m here and feeling thankful for the little bit of extra money I’m making and being here for my community.
14:04: Maybe not thank you universe - the patient slept for a while then got extremely combative and was trying to punch me. I switch off with a coworker and head to the break room to eat a bowl I made with frozen veggies + rotisserie chicken from Costco + cheddar cheese on top.
19:09: I finally clock out. I had a snack of 2 rice cakes and some almonds at one point. Rest of work was wild (i.e. a psychotic patient that pulled out his IV and was throwing things everywhere, someone screaming in pain for hours nonstop, etc.) and had me questioning what I am doing making this career change. I am tired.
19:49: I make it home after swinging by L’s to check on her kitties. Jump in the shower. My mom has dinner ready and I scarf down this gorgeous basil, mozzarella, peppers, tomatoes, avocados, and olive salad + a couple Trader Joe’s dolmas + a couple pieces of fresh bread. Delicious. I force myself to get my food and my school bag ready for tomorrow and lay my scrubs out before I crawl into bed a little after 9.
TOTAL: $0
FRIDAY - DAY 3
06:22: Alarm goes off and I roll out of bed and take my pup for a nice walk. Give him breakfast / shower / throw on my scrubs / pack my lunch / give the pup a big kiss goodbye and I am out the door a little after 7:00.
07:47: I get to school and I am NOT feeling it lol. I stopped at Costco for gas on my way ($20.67) and I also swung by a very Texas niche store that sells all kinds of beef jerky my brother really likes to grab some for his birthday coming up ($17.98).
10:00: Class is boring - it’s tough getting back into it with an 8 hour cardiac lecture. It’s good to see my friends but struggle is real. I run into my favorite professor and she makes my morning. I tell her all about my upcoming internship and my boyfriend’s new job and she was stoked and told me to “lock him down” hahaha. I also make 2 phone calls to apartment complexes we are interested in cause my boyfriend doesn’t get great reception at work during business hours. One place doesn’t have any current availability but the lady was so nice and will be sending me a virtual tour later today. Schedule another tour on Monday afternoon.
11:30: We break for lunch and I eat the same thing as yesterday - rotisserie chicken + frozen veggies + cheddar cheese.
12:30: Spend the afternoon in class completely unable to concentrate. The professor is throwing ECG rhythms around left and right. 8 hours of ECG lecture is NOT a productive way to learn the material. I work on a couple study guides during class cause I cannot.
3:30: We get out a little early and I rush to meet my mom for a walk through of the house. I follow her back to her office because I sent a big Chewy order there. Pick up the box along with a Diet Coke, order us Cava for dinner, pick up Cava, check on my friends cats on my way home real quick, and then have a shower and relax. Mom pays for Cava and I thank her multiple times.
7:00: We eat dinner all together when everyone is eventually home (harissa avocado bowl for me!) and then my boyfriend calls right when I head out to walk my dog. Perfect. I miss him and have been having anxiety around our new schedules. We have a good 30 minute chat about our days before I spend the evening basically doing nothing. I chat with my family and mess around on my phone. Text boyfriend about different apartments.
22:44: Bed time after I brush and floss my teeth. I’m zonked from the week.
TOTAL: $38.65
SATURDAY - DAY 4
08:30: I’m awake! Did not sleep well at all cause thunderstorms. My pup is deathly afraid and will not stop shaking for hours so I end up sleeping on the couch on and off. We were up and down all night but somehow I feel okay. We go for a quick walk, feed him, and start a load of whites in the washer.
09:08: I have a shower, and then I head out to get my family coffee from one of our favorite spots.
10:45: Make it back home with 2 cold brews for my brother and I and a latte for mom. I also picked up 5 breakfast tacos and a German chocolate cake for Sunday dinner tomorrow ($56.24). I eat a bean and cheese taco and a potato and egg taco, start some laundry, and put air in my tires with my home compressor since my low air light has been on in my car for an embarrassing amount of time. Brother needs air in his tires too so turns into a production lol.
12:18: Spent a couple hours putzing around dealing with the tires and more laundry and packing a bag for tonight. We are headed to the lake for a friend’s bday party and I have no clue what I want to wear so I pack a lot of options and clothes for church tomorrow morning too. Now it’s time to drive around for a little bit and check out some potential apartments and do a small Target run.
14:02: I make it home from apartment cruising and my Target run. I bought a 3 subject notebook, tire pressure gauge with valve caps included, two bags of frozen veggies, mini coke zeros, and a bag of Lesser Evil popcorn ($21.50). I was so tempted to stop for lunch on my way home but lines were long everywhere so I made myself some cheesy eggs + 2 Eggo waffles when I got home. Put the valve cap on my tire that is missing one.
14:36: Make it to L’s condo and clean up after the cats and start the Roomba. Boyfriend texts that he is out of work and on his way over! He’s been up since 4 am this morning for work and I am feeling some type of way with everything on my plate / anxiety so we will see how long we make it tonight lol.
15:30: S is showered and we are out the door!
16:30: We make it to the rental, change into our bathing suits, and walk down to the river.
19:00: We hang out in the river for a good 2.5 hours. It was a good time - nice to chat with my school friends and their partners. Boyfriend and I head out before the real partying starts lol.
20:00: We eat dinner at this cute Tex Mex place. Boyfriend has some kind of alcoholic mixed drink and we share a fajita for 2 plate. Boyfriend pays - it was $70.56 with tip. I drive us back because he does not like to drive even after one drink which I am 100% here for. We are so tired lol.
21:15: Make it back to L’s condo and we take a hot shower and get into bed in the guest bedroom. It takes forever for us to both fall asleep.
TOTAL: $77.74
SUNDAY - DAY 5
6:50: Oh boy neither of us slept well. There was another thunderstorm. One of the cats was yowling nonstop outside our door. The ceiling fan was clanking on and off. The bed was way too soft. Up and down again all night for a second night in a row for me lol.
8:11: I’m showered and we are both dressed and we head out to one of our favorite taquerias for breakfast. I get 2 bean and cheese tacos and one machacado + egg taco. Boyfriend also gets 3 tacos and we both get coffee. We sit and chat for a while until it was time to go to church. I pay on the way out ($22.98 with tip).
11:40: After an hour of church and an hour meeting for a committee I’m on - I’m wiped out. Still have a house walk through to do with my family and boyfriend so I head over there and we are there for about an hour.
13:10: Finally made it home, walked my pup, and made myself a late lunch of Dave’s Killer bread toast + peanut butter + banana.
13:54: A girlfriend calls and asks if I want to get a pedicure this afternoon. We decide to get dinner together on Thursday instead. I’m actually very touched she called me because we are friends through another friend and normally don’t get together just the two of us. I’m really happy she reached out. I also invite one of my friends from school - I have been wanting them to meet for a while.
14:30: Nap timeeeee! I knock out for an hour then realize how thirsty I am and how badly I need to get out of the apartment. I get up, take the pup for a spin with my brother, and head to Sonic to get a large diet cherry limeade and then head to L’s condo to check on the kitties and chill ($3.34).
18:00: I spent a couple hours chilling on the internet - working on my google calendar, school organization, church emails, reviewing some apartments we may drive by tomorrow, and I download the remaining episodes of season 1 of Nurse Jackie to watch tonight. I had bought the complete first season over a month ago and still haven’t watched it all lol. That’s how little I watch tv.
20:00: We had bibimbap for dinner and German chocolate cake for dessert. Delicious. I clean up the dishes and do more laundry because that’s my life between school, work, working out, having 2 hairy pets, etc. Unpack my bags from the river day and sleepover last night too. Chat with my family.
22:00: Crawl into bed and watch some Nurse Jackie before passing out.
TOTAL: $26.32
MONDAY - DAY 6
7:33: I slept better but still tossed and turned. Still just anxious with everything going on, especially the start of another intense semester.
8:47: Pup is fed and walked. I open the windows because it is 68 degrees which is unheard of in June in south Texas.
10:06: I ended up doing a deep clean of my room hahah. Wiped down and vacuumed every surface. So much hair. My pup is shedding so bad. I change my bedding and toss my comforter in the wash. Thank goodness I have 2 sets of sheets now. I had only 1 for the longest time lol. I take a break and eat some Greek yogurt + pecans + banana + drizzle of honey.
11:03: I vacuumed the common areas in the apartment, took a long shower, and I’m dressed and ready for my boyfriend to pick me up. I felt like being cute today so I put on this new leather skirt from Alice + Olivia my boyfriend got me as a present that I haven’t worn yet + a white crop top + my cheetah old skool Vans. I’m so tired though lololol. This is one of the only Mondays we both have off for the foreseeable future so I am gonna rally and make the most of it!
11:15: Boyfriend is so tired too bahah. We go grab coffees at this cute little coffee shop I’ve been wanting to check out. I get a cortado. Boyfriend gets an iced caramel almond milk latte and I treat ($11.82 with tip). We sit and chill and map out what apartments we want to check out today.
12:30: Walk across the street to grab Tex Mex for lunch at a pretty famous place in town. I get the enchilada plate and boyfriend gets a chicken quesadilla plate. He pays and it is $27.89 with tip.
1:30: Go for our first apartment tour of the day and it is depressing. We drive around and check out the other apartments we are I interested in and then go on one more tour at a place that we are really impressed by. It’s $1.3k or so for a 500 sq ft one bedroom and that’s a stretch. Ideally he wants the base rent to be $1,000 or less which is quite doable. Yet again - south Texas prices for the win. He is looking at older buildings, but they are well kept up and in good neighborhoods. They are not in the hottest places to be in town, but definitely still nice.
16:00: We go back to L’s condo and chill and take care of the kitties. Discuss the apartments and ask my brother if he wants to get dinner with us and he agrees.
18:00: We head back to my apartment, pick up my brother, and head to dinner. We order a large caesar salad, an arugula and sausage pizza, and a mushroom and pepperoni pizza. This spot does $10 two topping pizzas on Monday and it slaps. I treat my boyfriend and brother to dinner ($48.01 with tip).
20:00: Home and boyfriend walks my pup with me. Brother makes us both tea and we have a nice cup of tea and chat until boyfriend heads home. I put together my breakfast and lunch tomorrow and then lay down to chill and have some quiet time.
22:30: Bed time! First day of critical care didactic is tomorrow and I am feeling mostly excited.
TOTAL: $59.82
TUESDAY - DAY 7
6:22: My alarm goes off and wakes me from a deep sleep. I finally slept a good 8 hours though!
7:10: I am showered and throw on some black Lululemon Align leggings and a swiftly tech tee. I was gonna wear real pants but screw that haha. I am really dragging this morning.
7:50: Make it to school and lecture starts at 8. Honestly - that lecture could have been given in 45 minutes but we spent the first 2 hours simply going over the schedule and clarifying assignments since everything is such a disorganized hot mess at the beginning of the semester.
10:05: We take a break and call a fellow church congregation member to see if we want to meet today to tour an organization that supports people immigrating. We are debating if we want to allocate church donation funds to them. We agree to meet at the location at 1:30.
12:41: We are done with class and I stayed a bit after to start making my study guide for our first test even though it isn’t for 5 weeks. I realize the time and quickly pack up and go heat up my lunch. Chat with an MSN student who I had met in orientation for my internship a couple weeks ago and he expressed his frustration about how the start of this semester is rough for him too.
2:38: We finish our tour and we are very impressed at the clean and organized operation. We agree to each write our own follow up email to the rest of the group before the end of the day supplying the church donating.
3:30: I make some jasmine tea and have some quiet time when I get home before starting on some dosage calculation problems that are due on Friday.
5:45: I end up spending almost 2.5 hours on homework - dosage calculations, an article summary, and start on a medication sheet. Ouch. I lay down for 20 minutes, take my pup out, and then head out to meet my friend for dinner at Cava.
6:30: I get the lemon chicken bowl and pita chips ($13.69) and we sit and chat for a 1.5 hours. We just saw each other a couple weeks ago, but so much to catch up on.
20:00: We agree to go on a double date in the next couple weeks and I head home. I walk my pup with my mom and brother, pack my gym bag and my food for tomorrow, write my follow up emails from today’s visit to the church committee, and relax in bed.
TOTAL: $13.69
TALLY OF DAILY EXPENSES:
TOTAL EXPENSES: $279.11
REFLECTION
I spent quite a bit on going out to eat this week with my boyfriend, family, and friends. It was the end of my school break and boyfriend is transitioning to a new job so we were a bit out of whack with spending on food. Usually we eat at home with our families more, but it was nice to go out and enjoy ourselves too. It was a super busy week for me too - which is the norm lately. I have a great community and social life here compared to the West Coast and I do not take that for granted. Trying to make myself more of a priority so I don’t burn out again, which is difficult for me.

2023.06.07 23:06 Flaky-Broccoli-3113 So I am thinking of possibly getting rid of my Element.

So I am thinking of possibly getting rid of my Element.
I have given much thought to this idea, and I would like more of a trade, here are what I am willing to trade for. Early 2000's Chevy Blazer ZR2 4WD with everything working of course as my rig is in very good working order. And 84-87 Toyota Tacoma or 4runner manual transmission 4x4 with the 22R motor in working condition no rust. Now for my rig, it's a 2004 Sunset Orange, 5 SPD manual with a swapped JDM K24A real VTEC swap on Ktuner, push start, fogs, roof rack and few other cool things done. It's a clean title California car, 235k on chassis, 25k on JDM swap zero mechanical issues. I am a mechanic and stay on top of all my maintenance for all my vehicles.

2023.06.07 22:43 Plane_Boysenberry337 2016 Honda CR-V Transmission problems??

I have a 2016 CR-V with just under 70k miles, and of which I have been the sole owner. It is AWD and has a CVT transmission, made/assembled in Canada. Have been keeping up with its maintenance schedule extremely thoroughly. It had its routine transmission fluid replacement service and within a few weeks, started making a whining sound, hesitating badly (one time it barely made it uphill, it was hesitating so bad), and leaking transmission fluid. Took it to 3 separate independent car shops, who all confirmed the output shaft seal of the transfer case was leaking trans fluid; and the fluid that was leaking from it was muddy, dark brownish reddish. The seals were flattened.
The transfer case had to be replaced at that point.
Since the last car shop (actually, my local dealership) I took it to admitted potential workmanship issues on that service date and there were suspicions they did not actually do their transmission fluid replacement at all or correctly, they reimbursed me via check (thankfully) for a good chunk of that cost to replace the transfer case - even though I took it to another shop specializing in transmissions for repair.
My question is, has anyone else experienced transfer case or other transmission problems with their similar 2016 CRV‘s? At this point, I’m wondering how many more miles I can get out of it before the next huge repair hits 😫

2023.06.07 21:40 mild-n-lazy Sanity check: Used Tacoma w/ 640k Miles

I've been on the hunt for a used car in the $12k-ish or less range for a while, about to sell a house and have some money available. Decided on a mid-sized truck. Went through countless forum pages, videos, buyers' guides, etc. and decided I'd like to get a Tacoma. Most of the ones in my price range have really high-mileage motors, which I know is kind of a Toyota thing, but I'm too gun-shy and I need something I can drive 30 miles a day for at least 5 years...
...which brings us to today. I need help determining whether I've found a hidden gem or I'm about to really shoot myself in the foot. There's a 2003 Tacoma PreRunner listed locally to me with 640,000 miles on the odo. I saw the listing and just wanted to check it out for curiosity. Turns out, the odo has 640k but the motor and transmission have been swapped-in from a 4Runner with only 90k miles.
I asked the seller for the VIN, which they gave immediately (from a photo, so I know it's not BS) and ran the CarFax, and it's been pretty rigorously maintained, at least a couple of service visits each year all done by Toyota dealers. Ran a title check, no issues there. The car passed inspection this year and is registered to next year, and the owner has service records (these are in-person, so I haven't seen them yet). They've replaced ball joints, water pump, timing belt in the last 2 years and it's sitting on new Goodyears. Texas truck, so (from photos at least) it looks pretty much rust-free.
The seller agreed to go with me to a dealer for a PPI to verify that the engine is a swap-in and everything else is kosher. Am I nuts to think that this is a hidden gem deal?
Edit: Forgot to say, the reason I'm freaking out is that it's $5000.

2023.06.07 18:42 Wide-Examination-409 Developing an Effective Employee Training Plan

Developing an Effective Employee Training Plan
Benjamin Franklin once stated, "By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail." This concept also applies to employee training; if conducted spontaneously, it will likely be ineffective and not contribute value to your organization.
Developing a well-thought-out training plan is the foundation for a successful training initiative and helps bring your company closer to achieving its goals.
This article offers a step-by-step guide to creating an excellent training plan and provides a ready-to-use template to initiate the training process effectively. We will cover the following:
  • What is an employee training plan?
  • What components should an employee training plan contain?
  • Steps to create an employee training plan
  • FAQ
  • Conclusion

Defining an Employee Training Plan

An employee training plan outlines the necessary steps, timeline, resources, responsible individuals, and curriculum for effective organizational staff training. It is a framework for a training program that documents its essential components and aims to standardize training to align it with anticipated business outcomes.
In essence, an employee training plan is a strategy that prepares you as an employer to invest effort into a training program. Developing a training plan involves collaboration between the HR department, a team of supervisors, and senior management, making it a critical document.

Critical Components of an Employee Training Plan

While the plan's contents are ultimately up to you, it should include these essential elements:
  • A proposed schedule
  • Objectives set for learners
  • Tasks to be completed within a timeframe
  • Responsible personnel (trainer, instructor, mentor, etc.)
  • Methods or activities used during the training

Employee Training Plan
However, there is no universal plan template that everyone must adhere to. Training plans can vary and may also encompass a curriculum, essential skills to develop, desired outcomes, evaluation methods, responsible team members, props, and resources, among other aspects.
In any case, the plan's contents still depend on the supervisor's discretion and require management approval.

Steps to Develop an Employee Training Plan

Before hastily making decisions about roles and timelines, consider the prerequisites for training and invest effort into thorough preparation. Here are the seven steps to creating an employee training plan, with half being theoretical. We recommend these preparation steps, as they form the foundation for any successful training initiative.
#1 Align with your business goals
When creating a new training plan, it's crucial to consider your company's objectives and the issues it seeks to address through training. These can include:
  • Accelerating the onboarding process for improved employee productivity
  • Addressing high turnover for enhanced reputation and cost reduction
  • Boosting employee compliance for operational stability
You can expand this list, but the main goal is to ensure that your future training plan is purpose-driven and contributes to one of these objectives. It's helpful to articulate specific, measurable goals for the training, such as:
  • Decrease customer service agents' time to productivity from 10 weeks to 6 weeks
  • Lower the turnover rate to 10%
  • Establish a completely safe work environment and avoid OSHA or similar regulatory fines during the next inspection
#2 Identify your target audience and their requirements
Training plans can be as diverse as the job positions within a company. Additionally, they may differ depending on an employee's stage in their career journey. For instance, new graduates entering your organization will have distinct learning needs compared to experienced professionals.
It's crucial to clearly understand who you will be training, their prior knowledge and background, their schedules, whether they work on-site or remotely, and, most importantly, what they need to learn to perform better. Conducting interviews with employees and managers about their training needs and desired improvements can significantly inform your plan.
Individual training plans can also be developed to create a personalized professional growth path, which should be discussed with the employee. Ideally, the final plan should meet managers' and employees' expectations while aligning with the broader goal in Step 1.
#3 Determine your training approach
Training plans will naturally differ based on the type of employee training being developed. However, companies typically implement at least three typical training approaches:
  • Orientation: Company culture and history, mission and values, product offerings, code of conduct, etc.
  • Safety and compliance: Fire safety, sanitation guidelines, cybersecurity, industry regulations, anti-money laundering, etc.
  • Job-specific training: Product manufacturing, equipment maintenance, direct sales, supply chain management, etc.
Each approach has unique tasks and phases, but they can all be part of a more comprehensive onboarding program. For example, as employees progress within a company, there may be ongoing upskilling initiatives and leadership training targeting your talent pool.
The number of participants, frequency, duration, material complexity, and associated costs, such as trainer fees, will vary significantly in each case. Defining learning objectives for your employees is crucial, which leads to the next step.
#4 Establish well-defined learning objectives
Before implementing the plan, articulate your desired training outcomes. That will help maintain training focus, achieve consistency, and guide learners' efforts toward the expected performance.
Consider breaking the objectives into specific, measurable goals, with at least two for each training session or course. For example, orientation training objectives could be:
  • Objective 1: Become familiar with the company culture
  • Objective 2: Understand the company's primary products and their competitive edge
Announcing objectives in advance and guiding learners through them during training can help maintain focus and allow learners to progress through small milestones within the training program.
#5 Develop tasks for accomplishment
Once the objectives are set, divide them into practical steps employees must take to gain proficiency in a particular topic or develop a specific skill set. With increasing complexity levels, these training tasks will influence employee productivity over time.
Determine the actions, exercises, or experiences to help employees achieve the learning goals. And remember that a training plan should introduce new knowledge when employees are prepared for the next stage. Simultaneously, establish deadlines to monitor their progress and ensure they are staying on track.
#6 Select the ideal training format
Once you've determined the topic or skill to teach your learners, it's time to choose the most suitable delivery method. Numerous learning delivery methods are available, including instructor-led training, virtual classrooms, eLearning, mobile learning, and coaching.
You can opt for various training activities in different formats based on the training materials, available hardware/equipment, and suitable classroom space for in-person sessions.
When choosing the optimal delivery method for your training plan, consider the number of learners, training frequency, available space, and budget. More specialized training programs, like leadership development, often require a personalized, in-person approach and are frequently conducted through coaching sessions.
Online courses or training manuals may be more appropriate for large-scale orientation training. Online courses and quizzes can help cover essential topics and assess learners' retention of new information. Additionally, you can repurpose existing materials, memos, manuals, and slides into online courses using the right online training tools.
One such tool is Core Competency LMS, which allows users to plan, create, and distribute eLearning materials in various formats.
#7 Implement your plan
This stage involves implementing your training plan and experiencing its initial results. After receiving final approval from management, ensure that employees, mentors/trainers/instructors, team supervisors, and department heads have easy access to the training plans.
You can quickly onboard your employees with the help of a learning management system. This online platform enables learners to take courses and quizzes, access the corporate knowledge base, and enroll in specific training programs on any device.
Moreover, a system like Core Competency LMS allows employees to stay informed about all scheduled activities and receive notifications about upcoming deadlines, ensuring nothing important is missed.
As mentioned, an effective employee training plan delivers knowledge when employees need it. Core Competency LMS can automatically assign required courses to new hires or other employee groups and roll out training courses, videos, manuals, and other content in a specific sequence.
Subsequent materials will become available only after completing the previous ones and executing your training plan as intended. These and other valuable functionalities of Core Competency LMS can significantly enhance your L&D workflows and decrease the time and financial resources invested in training initiatives.
#8 Evaluate the success of your training plan
Using the objectives established in Step 3, assess your learners' progress. Did they complete all assigned tasks? How well did they perform in assessments, if any were included? Did they have sufficient time, or did it take them longer than a day, a week, or the entire probationary period to finish the training?
At this stage, gathering feedback from learners, fellow instructors, and mentors is crucial to refine the training plan. Depending on the training scenario, ask your learners what they gained, if they can distinguish between products A and B, or how they comprehend the company's mission, among other questions.

FAQ About Training Plans

Let's review what we've discussed regarding training plans and their execution.
What's the purpose of a training plan?
Essentially, a training plan outlines the upcoming training process for a specific role, ensuring consistency, standardization, and repeatability within the organization.
What are the fundamental elements of a training plan?
A training plan's primary components include a schedule, responsible parties, learning objectives, training tasks, and educational resources.
How do you implement a training plan?
The most effective method for implementing an employee training plan is by using an LMS. A system like Core Competency LMS significantly automates training execution and monitors employee progress in any training program.
Conclusion
Developing a training plan for employees is simple enough. However, it does require thoughtful consideration and a balance between employees' needs, business objectives, and available resources. The rest comes down to technique or the appropriate online training technology.

I regularly interacted with our clients to understand their pain points, suggest enhancements, and ensure our product was meeting their needs. Moreover, I worked closely with the CEO in presenting the product vision to potential investors and securing funding to support our growth.
Throughout my journey at TechSolutions Inc., I gained invaluable experience in agile development methodologies, project management, and team leadership. I successfully led a cross-functional team, fostered a collaborative work environment, and coordinated project timelines to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions. I also became proficient in version control systems such as Git and utilized CI/CD pipelines to automate software deployment and testing processes, enabling us to rapidly iterate on new features and ensure product stability.
My prompt:
Hi there! I am a product manager working on my portfolio to help me apply for jobs. I have different projects listed on my portfolio. I have the option to use a pre-defined list of skills from the site. If I give you the list in bullet form, could you read my project summary and tell me which skills from that list you believe I utilized or acquired? I can provide you the list of skills first, then the summary.
Please do not combine or make up your own skills. This is a matter of life or death. I am limited to these specific skills per the website and can not make custom ones. Please do not provide a description for these skills, only a bullet list will do. You can make this list as long as necessary to include every skill or skill variation on the bullet list that would apply.
Here's the comma-separated bullet list that you must use in your response:

SEC & CFTC Reminder: TODAY SEC & CFTC to OPENLY consider, amongst other items, whether to adopt rules that are designed to prevent fraud, manipulation, deception in connection with transactions in security-based swaps & governance requirements for Derivatives Clearing Organizations. Details inside.
Good morning and HAPPY EARNINGS day Superstonk! Today is also a BIG day on the regulatory front and I wanted to reshare the details for today's OPEN meetings of SEC and CFTC in one place so folks can readily get at it--in case they would like to attend.

SEC Meeting Details:

https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/13xqbcs/sec_alert_the_sec_will_hold_an_open_meeting_on/
https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/142nzh0/sec_alert_the_sec_will_hold_an_open_meeting_on/

MATTERS TO BE CONSIDERED:

  1. The Commission will consider whether to adopt rules under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 (“Exchange Act”) that are designed to prevent fraud, manipulation, and deception in connection with transactions in security-based swaps as well as to prevent the personnel of a security-based swap dealer or major security-based swap participant from taking actions to coerce, mislead, or otherwise interfere with such entity’s chief compliance officer.
  2. The Commission will consider whether to adopt rule amendments to Regulation M under the Exchange Act that remove certain existing rule exceptions that reference credit ratings and substitute in their place new exceptions that are based on alternative standards of creditworthiness.
  3. The Commission will consider whether to approve a proposed amendment to the CAT NMS Plan to implement a revised funding model (“Executed Share Model”) for the consolidated audit trail (“CAT”) and to establish a fee schedule for Participant CAT fees in accordance with the Executed Share Model.

Wut mean?

The SEC will consider whether to adopt rules under the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 that are designed to prevent fraud, manipulation, and deception in connection with transactions in security-based swaps as well as to prevent the personnel of a security-based swap dealer or major security-based swap participant from taking actions to coerce, mislead, or otherwise interfere with such entity’s chief compliance officer.
The SEC is also considering an amendment to the CAT NMS Plan that would introduce a new funding model, referred to as the "Executed Share Model", for the Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT). The amendment also proposes a fee schedule for participant CAT fees under this new model.
  • The funding model for the Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT) is used to finance the operations and maintenance of the CAT system.
    • The CAT is a system that tracks orders throughout their lifecycle and identifies the broker-dealers handling them, making it easier to analyze the data and identify potential market manipulations or other misconduct.
    • This is crucial because CAT collects and processes massive amounts of data daily.
      • The costs associated with this are significant and include data processing and storage, maintenance of the system, software development, and staffing costs.
  • The proposed Executed Share Model is a method for distributing these costs among the participants (primarily broker-dealers) that use the CAT system.
  • The specific details of how the model would be implemented would be determined by the proposed amendment being considered by the SEC.

How to attend:

  • The meeting will be webcast from the SEC's website at www.sec.gov at 10 a.m. (ET) today.

CFTC Meeting Details:

https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/13x4hbh/commodity_futures_trading_commission_cftc_alert/
https://www.reddit.com/Superstonk/comments/142s5gs/cftc_alert_updated_agenda_for_67_open_meeting/

CFTC will consider the following:

  1. The Commission is proposing several amendments to Regulation 39.24 that enhance the Commission’s DCO governance standards and are consistent with recommendations from the Central Counterparty Risk and Governance Subcommittee of the Market Risk Advisory Committee. Specifically, the proposed regulations require a DCO to establish one or more risk management committees (RMCs) and one or more risk advisory working groups (RWGs).
  2. The proposed regulations also prescribe standards related to the composition, activities, and policies and procedures of RMCs and RWGs. In the notice of proposed rulemaking, the Commission invites comment on any aspect of the proposed rules, and also poses questions related to other topics for the Commission’s consideration and potential use in a future rulemaking.
  3. These questions involve topics such as consulting market participants prior to DCOs submitting rule changes pursuant to Part 40 of the Commission’s rules; the ability of RMC members to share information with others at their employer to obtain additional expert opinions; and governance related to the introduction of new products.
Proposed Rule: Derivatives Clearing Organizations Recovery and Orderly Wind-down Plans (The SEC has a similar rule up: https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2023/05/30/2023-10889/covered-clearing-agency-resilience-and-recovery-and-wind-down-plans)

Speculation:

I wonder if this is all connected to this letter from CFTC staff a few days ago?
https://preview.redd.it/4i7bibixfl4b1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=2e77e2480e54c4d223f2284b6c6625ca417075ff
How does this relate to GameStop?
DCR expects DCOs and applicants to actively identify new, evolving, or unique risks and implement risk mitigation measures tailored to the risks that these products or clearing structure changes may present.

For DCO registrants and applicants clearing contracts that may involve physical delivery of digital assets, DCR, working with other relevant CFTC staff, will emphasize reviews of physical settlement arrangements, including whether DCOs have adequately identified and managed risks and obligations associated with digital assets and whether DCO rules clearly state the obligations of the DCO, if any, with respect to physical deliveries involving digital assets.
This sounds like they might be worried about how GameStop token risk (for example like at FTX?) is being settled?

Adding, from the Federal Reserve's Consent order with Silvergate:

https://preview.redd.it/mr2edge2gl4b1.png?width=783&format=png&auto=webp&s=a14d09128b86707794828bd9ea3bccaf2eca9e52
\"Silvergate shall continue to fully cooperate with DFPI’s ongoing investigation into Silvergate’s relationship with FTX/Alameda and SEN transactions.\"
Speaking of security based swaps...
https://preview.redd.it/s0c0sqv6gl4b1.png?width=960&format=png&auto=webp&s=8e0cd074c3ae20cde3b156604284e90603b83903
Comparing FDIC Quarterly Banking Profile: 137,729,743 Swaps in the first quarter of 2023 (+27.86% from same point in 2021--in the first quarter of 2021, there were 107,718,346 swaps). With this uptick in swaps, it sure would be GREAT if CFTC was publishing swap data! Oh wait, they've hidden it...
I guess it is a good thing both SEC and CFTC are having such high profile meetings on rules for this stuff today, on earnings day of all days....

TLDRS:

  • SEC & CFTC to OPENLY consider, amongst other items, whether to adopt rules that are designed to prevent fraud, manipulation, deception in connection with transactions in security-based swaps & governance requirements for Derivatives Clearing Organizations.
  • You can attend!
    • SEC's meeting will be webcast from the SEC's website at www.sec.gov at 10 a.m. (ET) today.
    • CFTC's meeting can be streamed through the CFTC’s YouTube channel @ 9:30 am (EDT)
      • Call in information above if you prefer that method

Chester Standard: https://www.chesterstandard.co.uk/news/23572442.live-lucy-letby-trial-june-7---cross-examination-continues/
Chester Standard:
The trial is now resuming, with the 12 members of the jury in attendance.
Nicholas Johnson KC is continuing to cross-examine Lucy Letby, turning to the case of Child M.
Letby confirms there is nothing she wishes to change in her evidence given in cross-examination so far.

Child M

Sky News:
Now the prosecution turns to his twin, Child M, who was also allegedly attacked by Letby - this time having air injected. He survived but was left brain-damaged.
Chester Standard:
Mr Johnson says for Child M, Letby - in her defence statement - said Child M 'was slotted into a space' in nursery room 1 which was 'full'.
Child M was 'apnoeic', and it was not known if he had a desaturation.
A crash call was put out, and Child M was turned around in an incubator by a nursing colleague, to get him on to a monitor.
Letby added she did not notice any skin colour changes in Child M at the time.

Letby said in her statement she had written notes on Child M's resuscitation on a paper towel which ended up in her pocket and were taken home with her.
Letby tells the court it would have been used to write up [nursing] notes.
Letby says Child L and Child M 'stood out' in her mind at the time, as they were the first twins delivered where she was the allocated nurse.
 Sky News:
Child M was born in "good condition" and was breathing by himself. He had his observations taken every two hours.
Letby agrees this was the case.
"He was not an intensive care baby, was he?" Mr Johnson asks.
"No, I don't believe he was at this time," Letby says.
 Chester Standard:
Letby agrees Child M was 'not an intensive care baby' and had been doing well.
Asked if staffing levels were a contributory factor in Child M's collapse, Letby says the "unit was very stretched" during the April 9 shift. She adds she does not know what caused Child M's collapse.
Asked to clarify by Mr Johnson, she says it "was a potential" factor.
Letby tells the court Child M had been in a corner unit in a full nursery, and "as nursing and medical staff we were very stretched that day".
Staffing "was not at a great level".
Letby says she "does not know" what caused Child M's collapse, so rules out a mistake by staff. She says it is "hard to say" if staff competencies were a factor in the collapse.

Mr Johnson says Dr Ravi Jayaram observed skin colour changes in Child M at the time of the collapse.
He says "because [Child M] was darker skinned, it was more obvious."
He said Child M was pale with pink 'blotches' on the torso that would 'appear and disappear'. He said he noted the most 'obvious' patches on the abdomen.
"I noted them when I got there at the start of the resuscitation".
He added he had only seen that once before, in the case of Child A.
Letby says "I did not see anything like that, no".
 Sky News:
Lucy Letby is being asked about Child M, whom she is accused of leaving brain-damaged after injecting with air.
"Did the lighting in the nursery make it difficult to see?" Nick Johnson KC, the prosecution barrister, asks her.
"No," says Letby.
Letby previously told the police the lighting was "poor" in the space where Child M was.
 Chester Standard:
Letby is asked if the lighting was an issue in nursery room 1.
Letby had told police in interview the lighting was "poor" in room 1, and she tells the court she has an independent memory of that event. Child M was "in a darker corner of the nursery", Letby tells the court.
She added to police: "I do remember his [Child M] colour being harder to assess as he was an Asian baby."
Letby tells the court the colour change, if any, was more difficult for her to see.
 Sky News:
The prosecution points out that Letby has previously said she was able to see Child I had become "very pale" when in a darkened room at night, so questions why she could not see Child M in a well-lit room in the middle of the day.
 Chester Standard:
Mr Johnson asks why was it necessary for Child M to be in a corner of room 1 if there were four babies in there for a capacity of four.
Letby says there always needs to be an incubator free for emergency admissions in room 1.
There were four babies in nursery room 2, three in nursery 3 and four in nursery 4.
The court hears the neonatal unit was "at effective capacity".

The court is shown a clinical note by Dr Anthony Ukoh, made at 10.25am on April 9.
Letby says she does not remember if she had involvement with Child M at this time. Child M was not Letby's designated baby on this day.
A neonatal schedule for Letby on April 9 shows a number of duties Letby had for her designated babies in room 1 between 9am-9.11am.
Letby says one of the designated babies was "not a low-maintenance baby", with complex cannulation issues, and was on the ward for a long time. Mr Johnson says Letby has an "extraordinary memory" for this baby, seven years on, but not for Child D, who had died.

The court is shown a 1.5ml bile-stained aspirate is recorded for Child M, following which Child M was nil by mouth, and the naso-gastric tube was put on free drainage.
Mr Johnson says at 3.30pm, a 10% dextrose fluid bag is started for Child M.
Letby agrees with Mr Johnson there is nothing to suggest insulin was put in this bag.
 Sky News:
At 3.30pm on 9 April 2015, half an hour before Child M collapsed, he was given an antibiotic infusion, either by Lucy Letby or a colleague.
Letby is asked what her colleague was doing at the time.
"I can't say without looking."
Letby's colleague previously said she was dealing with a blood sample for Child L and was interrupted by Child M's emergency call.
"It was while [the colleague] was getting sterile that you sabotaged Child M," Nick Johnson KC, the prosecution barrister, says.
"No."
An extract from the witness statement of Child M's mother is then read to the court.
She said: "About ten minutes after we left the boys, a nurse came running up and said we had to go back and took me down in a wheelchair."
"Whatever happened, happened after his mum and family had left him," Mr Johnson says.
Letby says she does not recall "exact timings".
It is "another case where the parents are there and they leave and the baby collapses", Mr Johnson says.
Letby agrees this appears to be the case, but reiterates that she was with a colleague at the time.
 Chester Standard (same exchange):
Letby says she cannot recall what Mary Griffith was doing at this time. Mr Johnson suggests this was when Ms Griffith was collecting a blood sample for Child L to be 'podded' and sent to a laboratory for analysis.
Letby says she "couldn't say" how long it would take to draw up a 12.5% dextrose solution, which in this case was for Child L, the twin of Child M.
Letby agrees it would have been after 3.45pm that that process would have started.
Letby denies that it was around 3.45pm that she "sabotaged" Child M.
Mr Johnson says the twins' mother said in an agreed evidence statement, she had to be taken back to the unit in a wheelchair, having been alerted by nurse Yvonne Griffiths, and she observed "one of the doctors was pressing [Child M's] chest." Mr Johnson says this is another case where a baby collapsed when the parents were away.
Letby says she was with Mary Griffith at the time of Child M's collapse.
Letby agrees Child M recovered quickly following the collapse.
Letby says she did not see skin discolouration, and it was not discussed at the time.

A colleague had previously told the court Child M's blood gas record sheet was disposed of in a confidential waste bin.
Asked how it had ended under Letby's bed at home, Letby says she has never taken anything out of the confidential waste bin.
Letby says she does not know how many blood gas records she has taken home. She says it has been put in her pocket and taken home with a handover sheet.
She says she "probably" put it in her pocket, and put it under her bed.
Asked why, Letby replies: "Because I collect paper".
Letby says household bills and bank statements would be shredded as they were 'there and then'. Other sheets such as handover sheets were not thought about.

Dr Ukoh's records on the resuscitation for Child M are shown to the court. Mr Johnson says the record is "meticulous", including six adrenaline doses.
Mr Johnson says the data for the resuscitation efforts is on the paper towel [that Letby took home], which Mr Johnson says he must have had in his hand at some point. Letby agrees.
Mr Johnson says that was in his hand at 8.25pm when he wrote up his notes.
Letby said she had to stay late that shift for the handover and writing up medical notes for Child M. She denies "waiting an hour and a quarter" to write up those nursing notes or "hanging around" to get the note Dr Ukoh had when writing up the note.
Letby denies "rooting around in the bin" for the blood gas record for Child M to take home. She also denies sabotaging Child M.
 Sky News:
Letby says she stayed late that night to finish "all the work that needed doing". Medical records show she was still on the unit an hour and 15 minutes after her shift ended.
The prosecution claims she "hung around" on the unit to collect the paper towel, and removed confidential paperwork from the bin.
"No, I have never rooted in the bin," Letby says.
The prosecution claims she wanted the notes because she "sabotaged" the infant. Letby denies this.

Child N, charge #1

Chester Standard:
Mr Johnson is now turning to the case of Child N, born on June 2, 2016.
Letby, in her defence statement, says she had never encountered a baby with haemophilia before, and no-one on the unit seemed specifically to know how to care for such a baby.
She says she does not believe Child N 'collapsed', and it was not accurate to say he had screamed for 30 minutes. She denied causing any harm to him.

Letby tells the court she does not believe this event, for Child N, was a collapse which required resuscitation.
The court is shown the nursing rota for the night shift of June 2-3. Letby was designated nurse for two babies in room 4. Child N was in room 1 with one other baby - the designated nurse for both babies was Christopher Booth.
Letby rules out staffing levels or incompetence as factors in Child N's collapse.
Letby agrees Child N collapsed just after Christopher Booth went on his break.
Letby denies she was 'bored' or had 'time on her hands' working in nursery 4 that shift.
She agrees Child N 'was in good shape' at the start of the shift.

The neonatal schedule for June 2-3 is shown, with Letby's duties for her two designated babies from 8.30pm-8.38pm.
One of the designated babies received a 50ml NGT feed at 8.30pm as they were asleep. Letby says that feed can take '10-15 minutes or so'. She says she can't put a 'definitive number' on it.
Mr Johnson says other estimates for this kinds of feed have been 20 minutes.
Letby: "I really can't say."
Mr Johnson says Letby was texting her friends 'right through this shift'.
A sequence of messages is shown to the court. The first sent by Letby is at 7.33pm, followed by 7.35pm, 7.58pm, 7.59pm, 8pm ['We have got a baby with haemophilia'], 8pm, 8.01pm, 8.02pm, 8.03pm, 8.04pm [Ah ok I'll have to Google it later lol don't know much about it [haemophilia]], 8.06pm, 8.11pm [Complex condition, yeah 50;50 chance antenatally].
NJ: "That is where you got the answer from, Dr Google?"
LL: "No, '50:50' is something staff would know"
Messages are sent by Letby at 8.26pm [Ffs Mel asing me how to make up 12.5%],
Letby said she was "shocked" that a band 6 colleague was asking her how to make up such a solution, when she could have looked for herself.
8.29pm: 'No I've passed her folder but now asking if can run via cannula- she needs to look herself!'
Letby says she was "not happy" with Mel.
Another message is sent from Letby at 8.29pm, and at 8.31pm, and 8.31pm, at 8.32pm, 8.34pm.
Letby is asked how she can feed a baby at 8.30pm when she was also texting.
LL: "You can't."
Letby denies feeding the baby "very quickly" by putting the plunger on the end.

Another message is sent from Letby at 8.38pm [Had strange message from [doctor colleague] earlier...']
Mr Johnson asks if Letby's nursing colleague was implying Letby and the doctor were in a relationship. Letby says she does not know.
Letby's colleague sent two messages: "Did u? Saying what?
"Go commando? 😂"
Letby is asked by Mr Johnson if she knows what the implication of 'go commando' means.
LL: "I don't know what was meant, I can't say right now."
NJ: "Do you think this was an army reference, being from Hereford?"
LL: "I don't know."
 Sky News:
In one message, Letby's colleague encouraged her to "go commando".
Letby denies knowing what this means.
"What does that mean, is it a reference to the royal marines?" Nick Johnson KC, for the prosecution, asks.
"I don't know," Letby says.
"Go commando, you don't know what that means?" Mr Johnson says.
The court is shown that Letby replied with a series of laughing emojis.
"Did you think this was an army reference, you being from Hereford?"
"I don't know," Letby says.
Further text messages are shown to the court, in which Letby denies to her colleague that she was being flirty with the other colleague.
 Chester Standard
The messages are sent by Letby at 8.39pm, 8.40pm, 8.41pm, 8.43pm [Do you think he's being odd?], 8.44pm [Shut up!], 8.44pm [I don't flirt with him!].
The text message conversation was:
Letby: 'Had strange message from [colleague] earlier....'
Reply: 'Did u? Saying what?'
Letby had replied at 8.39pm: '😂😂😂😂'
LL: 'Asking when I was working next week as wants to talk to me about something, has a favour to ask..?'
Reply: 'Think he likes u too'
Reply: 'Hmm did u not ask what it was?'
LL: 'No just said when I was working and he said wants my opinion on something'
LL: 'Hmm...🤔'
Reply: 'Hmm'
LL: 'Do you think he's being odd?'
Reply: 'Thought as flirty as u'
LL: 'Shut up!'
Reply: 'What?!'
LL: 'I don't flirt with him!'
Reply: 'Ok'
LL: 'Certainly don't fancy him haha just nice guy'
Reply: 'Ok'

Mr Johnson says Letby was 'texting non-stop' on the nursery room.
Letby says the feed "must have happened at a different time". She says she cannot answer when. She denies 'pushing it through' the feed.
 Sky News:
Questioning continues about how Lucy Letby could have been texting her colleague "non-stop" while she was allegedly feeding a baby.
"I couldn't feed a baby while texting so it must have happened at a different time," Letby says.
"What must have happened?" Mr Johnson asks.
"The feed."
Mr Johnson then says: "Or the alternative is, to use your phrase, you pushed it through."
"No," says Letby.
Child N collapsed at 1am on 3 June 2016. Notes written hours later said his oxygen levels dipped down to 40%. He is also recorded as "screaming".
"Screaming is very unusual of a child of this age," Mr Johnson says.
"Yes," says Letby.
Mr Johnson then says: "This was your doing."
"No, it was not," says Letby.
 Chester Standard:
Mr Johnson says Child N collapsed at 1am. Christpher Booth 'one episode whilst I was on my break, whereby infant was crying++ and not settling. He became dusky in colour, desaturating to 40s. Responded to facial oxygen within 1-2 minutes. Crying subsided within approximately 30 minutes and colour returned to normal...'
Letby tells the court this was not a 'collapse' as facial oxygen was all that was required, not resuscitation.
Mr Johnson says Dr Jennifer Loughnane had a 'look of surprise' in court when she had read her note she had written Child N was 'screaming', as that was unusual. Letby says she does recall that.
She denies sabotaging Child N.

Child N, charge #2

Mr Johnson turns to the second set of events for Child N on June 15, when the plan was for Child N to go home that week. Letby agrees he only needed phototherapy at this stage.
A feeding chart is shown for Child N, who was being fed mostly expressed breast milk.
Child N's mother had visited on the morning of June 14, and in the evening, at 5.15pm. Child N had taken a 60ml bottle feed. Letby agrees with mr Johnson this was "a very good sign".
Mr Johnson suggests Letby did something to destabilise Child N before the end of her day shift.
LL: "No I did not."
Letby says it was a "coincidence" Child N was, according to nursing notes that night "very unsettled early part of night", with observations of mottling.
 Sky News:
Medical notes show the infant was "unsettled" for the first half of the night shift - when Letby was not working.
In a Facebook message sent to Letby, a doctor on the unit later told her: "Unsure why became unwell... They're optimistic he'll be okay."
 Chester Standard:
Letby is asked about a message sent by a nursing colleague at 5.26am which said 'Baby [N] screened, looks like [s]'*
Letby responded: 'Oh no'
Letby denies she saw this as an opportunity to sabotage Child N during the day shift.
LL: "No, that's not what happened."
Letby messaged a doctor colleague at 6.04am on June 15: 'Wonder if I'll find my way back into 1 today then....',
This is in response to his message at 5.53am, which begins: 'What a chaotic 7 hours!
'Sorry - I may have filled NICU [...]
'Have a good breakfast 😉 I think your day may be busy.'

Swipe data shows that Letby is on the neonatal unit at 7.12am. Child N desaturated three minutes later and was 'crying'.
Letby says she does not recall Child N crying. She says, at the time, she was in the doorway, talking to Jennifer Jones-Key - her friend, when the alarm for Child N went off.
Letby says it "was very busy" and "a lot of intervention was needed" for Child N after he collapsed. She does not cite staffing levels as a contributing factor for the collapse, or a mistake by medical staff.
Letby says she "does not know" if issues with intubating Child N were a factor, and does not know what caused Child N to collapse.
She denies "setting up" Child N to collapse overnight.
 Sky News
Lucy Letby is questioned about why she arrived early to her day shift on 15 June 2016, swiping in just under 20 minutes before the handover began.
She is accused of attempting to murder Child N twice that day.
"You sabotaged him on the night shift, in effect by going in early," Nick Johnson KC, the prosecution barrister, says.
"No," says Letby.
The prosecution claims Letby set Child N "up to fail at the end of the previous day shift" and then came in early "to make it look like he came from the night shift with a problem".
Mr Johnson accuses her of "making a beeline" for Child N, in nursery three.
Letby tells the court she went into the room to speak to her friend, and at this point "handover hadn't been allocated".
But a Facebook message to a colleague timestamped at 7.12am (when she arrived on the unit) disputes this.
It says: "I've escaped being back in 1, back in 3."
At 7.15am, the child was "blue" and "wasn't breathing", according to medical notes.
Mr Johnson says this happened "within a minute or two of you arriving in that room".
"Yes," says Letby.
"Just bad luck, is it?" says Mr Johnson.
"Yes," says Letby.
 Chester Standard (same evidence):
Letby, in her defence statement, said she had gone to nursery room 3 not to see Child N specifically, but to speak to Jennifer Jones-Key, her friend.
She said Child N was 'blue' and 'not breathing'. She shouted for a doctor colleague to assist and Neopuff breathing assistance was applied.
Letby is asked about the 'Jennifer and I were talking at the doorway'. Letby says she meant only she was at the doorway, and Jennifer Jones-Key was in the nursery room.
Letby, in a Facebook message to a colleague: 'No repeat today. I've escaped being in 1, back in 3' at 7.12pm.
Mr Johnson says Letby had gone in to room 3 as she knew by that point she was designated babies for that room. Letby says she had gone to see her friend.
Letby denies sabotaging Child N.
Letby agrees it was a "serious event" which happened "within a minute or two" of her entering the room. Mr Johnson says it was "bad luck?" Letby replies: "Yes."

Mr Johnson asks Letby when blood was seen orally on Child N.
Letby replies "the only time definitively" she recalled that was at 3pm. she says that is on her memory "sitting here now".
Mr Johnson says if she had recorded blood observations at the time, would she accept that now? Letby says she would, although it may have been based on what people had informed her at the time.
Mr Johnson says the one who would have informed her would have been the doctor colleague she "loved as a friend".
 Sky News:
The doctor who responded to this initial incident is someone Letby says she "loved as a friend" - she admits this colleague would not have had it in for her. (Letby has previously accused a "band of four" colleagues of conspiring against her.)
"Do you accept what [the doctor] says about this initial desaturation... about it being concerning?" Nick Johnson KC, for the prosecution, asks.
"Yes," says Letby.
Letby did not write up the nursing notes on the collapse at 7.15am of Child N - claiming she took over his care from 7.30am.
"Who discovered him [at 7.15am]?," Mr Johnson asks.
"We were both there," Letby says.
"Who discovered him?" Mr Johnson presses.
"We both heard his monitor, I went over to him," Letby says.
Mr Johnson says Letby was "hoping to create the impression on the paperwork that these were all events that happened before you arrived".
"No, I disagree."
Chester Standard:
Letby's nursing note: '...infant transferred to nursery 1 on handover. Mottled, desaturating requiring Neopuff and oxygen.'
Letby says "both" she and Jennifer Jones-Key had gone over to Child N at the time of desaturation.
Mr Johnson says Letby was "hoping to create the impression" on the nursing notes that the problems for Child N happened before the handover.
LL: "No, I disagree."
Letby tells the court she had taken over Child N's care from 7.30am.

Letby's note, written at 1.53pm-2.10pm adds: 'unable to intubate - fresh blood noted in mouth and yielded via suction ++'.
Letby says the 3pm blood observation was the first one she could "definitively remember".
Mr Johnson says this note is a 'good hour' before that observation.
Letby denies Child N was bleeding from when she first got involved that day.

Letby says she knows there was blood recorded prior to 3pm.
Mr Johnson says the doctor colleague recalled, in evidence, seeing blood before the intubation process at 8am.
Benjamin Myers KC, for the defence, rises to say that in cross-examination, the doctor colleague did not rule out the possibility the blood was present after the attempt to intubate.
Mr Johnson says there was an attempt to intubate at 8am. Letby agrees. Letby also agrees with the observation there was swelling at the back of Child M's throat. She says she "cannot comment" further on what the doctor colleague saw.
 Sky News:
Letby's lawyer points out, in cross-examination, that this doctor said he could not be sure if blood was present before or during the procedure.
The doctor said he saw swelling at the back of the infant's throat and said it "must have been unusual for me to remember it".
 Chester Standard:
Letby recorded in her notes, written at 1.53pm retrospectively: '...unable to intubate - fresh blood noted in mouth and yielded via suction ++'
Mr Johnson says the doctors could not see, for the blood. Letby says she cannot say what doctors observed.
Letby agrees that evidence from Professor Sally Kinsey ruled out 'spontaneous haemhorrhage' for Child N at this time.
 Sky News:
The court is then read an extract from the evidence of Child N's father. He previously told the court:
I was at work. I then received a phone call from Child N's nurse, Lucy. [Letby] said he had been a bit unwell in the night but said he is okay now. I told Lucy that [Child N's] mum would be in in a bit to see him as usual and that was that... I did not get the impression that he was still unwell and needed to be concerned... About ten minutes later [Child N's mother] rang me and said we had to go to the hospital.
Letby disputes she made this phone call.
"I don't recall speaking to the parents myself," she tells the court.
 Chester Standard:
Letby is asked about family communication with Child N's parents. A note by Letby at the time: 'Parents were contacted by S/N Butterworth during intubation. Both mobile phones switched off and no answer on landline. Message left. Call returned shortly after and parents were asked to attend. Have been present since.
'Both understandably upset...'
Agreed evidence said Child N's mother had said Lucy Letby had been in contact with them.
Letby says "it's a difference in recollection".
Mr Johnson says this is agreed evidence, it's the truth.
He says Letby's note "is a lie".
Letby: "no, it's not."
The mother recalled Child N 'had a bleed and was unwell', and said Letby had informed the parents of this.
Letby: "No, I disagree."
NJ: "But it's agreed evidence."
LL: "Well, I disagree with it now."
Mr Johnson says this is another account from a parent which Letby says is untrue.
Mr Johnson says Letby has been 'firing out post-it notes from the dock' during the trial, but had not raised this issue at the time.
LL: "I'm not sure."
NJ: "Is the answer no?"
LL: "It's not something I raised with my legal team."
Letby: "I don't want to comment on whats, ifs and buts."
Mr Johnson says Letby interrupted when the mother of Child E and F gave evidence, to say she couldn't hear, and wanted to leave the courtroom when a doctor colleague began to give evidence.
LL: "Yes, because I felt unwell."
Mr Johnson says: "No, no..." adding that it was because it was her boyfriend who was giving evidence.
Letby: "That's not fair."
Mr Myers rises to say the line of questioning is inappropriate, and asks for the opportunity to consider the issue raised [of a dispute in agreed evidence].
Letby adds she did not make the phone call to Child N's parents, and denies making false entries in the paperwork.
An intensive care chart is shown for Child N on June 15, saying at 10am '1ml fresh blood'. Letby says she "cannot say" if it was a vomit or aspirate. The note is in Letby's handwriting.
Letby is asked what she did about it.
Letby: "I cannot say right now."

Mr Johnson asks what would Letby do if fresh blood was observed in Child N's mouth?
LL: "I don't know if it was in the mouth." Letby adds such an observation would have been escalated, but she does not know who to. Mr Johnson says there is no record of it being escalated.
Letby agrees there is no "written record", but it may have been verbally escalated. She says 1ml fresh blood is not normal but not a life-threatening event.
Mr Johnson says for a baby with haemophilia, it was serious.
Letby says it would be a concern, and would be escalated.

A doctor in the ward does not record the bleed during the ward round, the court is told.
Mr Johnson says Letby has "invented" the blood reading for 10am. Letby: "I disagree."
Mr Johnson suggests it was all designed to give an ongoing impression for a child with haemophilia. Letby disagrees.
Letby says it's true that an NG Tube can cause "a small amount" of bleeding in the mouth.
Letby says she cannot say if she didn't escalate it [the bleed in Child N] verbally.

A Facebook message from Letby is sent to a doctor colleague at 11.29am on June 15.
'Small amounts of blood from mouth & 1ml from ng. Looks like pulmonary bleed on Xray. Given factor 8 - wait and see. Apnoeas have improved & gases good, colour & perfusion still not Great. If deteriorates will try to intubate.'
The x-ray report ruled out a pulmonary bleed. Letby says this report came some time later.
Mr Johnson suggests either there wasn't a problem at all, that Letby was making evidence up, or Letby was causing the problem. Letby disagrees.

Child N, charge 3

Mr Johnson says a statement from the parent of Child N said the collapse was so serious a priest was offered. Mr Johnson says this collapse must have been the one at 2.50pm.
Letby noted: 'approx 1450 infant became apnoeic, with desaturation to 44%...fresh blood noted from mouth and 3mls blood aspirated from NG tube...drs crash called...'
NJ: "What had you done to cause this in [Child N]?"
LL: "I hadn't done anything.

Letby denies "shoving a foreign object" down Child N's throat. Letby: "Absolutely not."
NJ: "It's all your work, isn't it?"
LL: "No it's not at all."
Letby agrees she was 'agitated' by the need for assistance from Alder Hey, as she had not known a case before of people from another hospital coming in to assist.
NJ: "Do you remember saying 'who are these people?' 'who are these people?'"
"Yes, because I had never experienced who these people were [coming in from a different hospital.] ...It was a completely new experience."
Child N later collapsed once more.
She denies using the doctors being in a 'huddle' as an 'opportunity' to try and kill Child N again.
Court has reached its scheduled early end for the day. Letby's cross-examination will resume tomorrow at 10:30 am local time

2023.06.07 08:57 hatebonelessbiryani Body repair and maintenance feels so exhausting.

Hi friends, I would really love your thoughts here. I have PCOS and I'm trying to lose weight. I'm working with an orthodontist on my teeth overjet and crowding, for which I am also scheduled for wisdom teeth removal. I'm also working with an ophthalmologist for my eye issues and getting custom lenses for a scar beside my iris, a dermatologist for my sunspots and various skin concerns. I'm preparing to get fat transfer to breasts, a rhino, surgery for a benign tumor, trying to figure out how to alleviate my hair loss, getting laser for UNMANAGEABLE body hair and keratosis pilaris. This is to name a few things. I'm constantly fatigued because of my obesity, insulin resistance and PCOS issues so being on top of all this feels super hard, not to mention unfamiliar, daunting and challenging as someone who never cared about herself for 4-5 years because of crippling depression. I have no one to share this journey with either - I live alone and I'm single, which adds a bit of loneliness to the mix too. Any tips to navigate the fatigue, fears and emotional toll? I really want this year to be a repair year.

By identifying your target audience, you can design and develop an app that caters to their specific requirements and expectations. You can create a user persona that represents your ideal customer and use it as a reference for your app design and development.
It's important to keep in mind that your target audience may evolve over time, so you should continuously monitor and analyze their feedback and behavior to ensure that your app remains relevant and useful.
Defining the App Features
Once you have identified your target audience, you can start defining the features and functionalities of your app. Your app should have a clear value proposition that addresses your target audience's needs and solves their problems.
Some of the key features that your Uber-like app should have include:
- User registration and authentication
- Ride booking and scheduling
- Real-time tracking and navigation
- Payment processing and invoicing
- Rating and review system
- Customer support and feedback
You can also consider adding additional features that can enhance the user experience and differentiate your app from the competition. For example, you can offer loyalty rewards, referral programs, or customization options.
Hiring a Development Team
Once you have defined the features and functionalities of your app, you need to hire a development team that can bring your app to life. You can either hire an in-house team or outsource the development to a third-party agency.
When hiring a development team, you should look for:
- Experience and expertise in app development
- Technical skills and knowledge of programming languages and frameworks
- Communication and collaboration skills
- Portfolio of successful app projects
- References and testimonials from previous clients
You should also ensure that your development team follows the best practices and standards in app development, such as agile methodology, code review, and testing.
Creating a Project Timeline
Once you have hired your development team, you need to create a project timeline that outlines the milestones and deadlines of your app development. This will help you stay on track and ensure that your app is delivered on time and within budget.
Your project timeline should include:
- App design and prototyping
- Front-end and back-end development
- Testing and debugging
- Deployment and launch
- Post-launch maintenance and updates
You should also allocate sufficient time and resources for each stage of the development process and consider any potential risks and challenges.
Designing the User Interface
The user interface (UI) is an essential aspect of your Uber-like app as it determines how your users interact with your app and how they perceive your brand. Your UI should be intuitive, user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing.
When designing your UI, you should consider:
- Consistency and coherence in design elements and layouts
- Accessibility and usability for users of different abilities and devices
- Visual hierarchy and contrast to guide user attention and navigation
- Branding and color scheme to reflect your brand identity and values
- Feedback and animation to enhance the user experience and engagement
You can use design tools and software, such as Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD, to create wireframes and prototypes of your app and collaborate with your development team and stakeholders for feedback and iterations.
Developing the App Functionality
Once you have finalized your app design, your development team can start building the front-end and back-end functionality of your app. This includes coding and integrating the features and functionalities defined earlier, such as user registration, ride booking, payment processing, and rating system.
Your development team should follow the best practices and standards in software engineering, such as modular programming, version control, and security protocols. They should also ensure that your app is optimized for performance, scalability, and compatibility with different devices and platforms.
Testing and Debugging the App
Before launching your Uber-like app, you need to test and debug it thoroughly to ensure that it works as intended and meets your quality standards. Testing and debugging should be an ongoing process throughout the development cycle and should involve different types of testing, such as:
- Unit testing to test individual components and functions
- Integration testing to test the interaction between different modules
- User acceptance testing (UAT) to test the app from a user's perspective
- Performance testing to test the app's speed and responsiveness
- Security testing to test the app's vulnerability to cyber threats
You should also involve your target audience and beta testers in the testing and feedback process to gather valuable insights and improve your app's usability and functionality.
Launching the App and Marketing It
Once you have tested and finalized your Uber-like app, it's time to launch it and market it to your target audience. This includes:
- Submitting your app to the app stores (e.g., Apple App Store, Google Play Store)
- Creating a landing page and social media accounts for your app
- Running paid ads, influencer marketing, or content marketing campaigns to promote your app
- Engaging with your users and responding to their feedback and reviews
- Measuring and analyzing your app's performance and user engagement using analytics tools
You should also continuously update and improve your app based on user feedback and market trends to ensure that it remains competitive and relevant.
Post-Launch Maintenance and Updates
After launching your Uber clone app, you need to maintain and update it regularly to ensure that it works smoothly and efficiently. This includes fixing bugs and issues, adding new features and functionalities, and optimizing the app's performance and security.
You should also monitor and analyze your app's usage and feedback regularly and use the insights to improve your app and enhance the user experience.
Conclusion
Creating an Uber-like app solution for your business can be a game-changer in today's digital world. By following the steps outlined in this article, you can create a user-friendly, feature-rich app that can revolutionize your business and stand out in a competitive market. Remember to conduct thorough market research, identify your target audience, define your app features, hire a development team, create a project timeline, design the user interface, develop the app functionality, test and debug the app, launch and market it, and maintain and update it regularly. With the right approach and mindset, you can create an app that can take your business to the next level.

Smart Curtains - Transforming Your Home with Intelligent Window Treatments

In today's rapidly evolving world of technology, smart home innovations have become increasingly popular. From voice-controlled assistants to automated security systems, homeowners are embracing the convenience and efficiency that these advancements bring. One area where technology has made significant strides is in window treatments, with the introduction of smart curtains.
In this article, we will explore the concept of smart curtains, their features and benefits, and how they can transform your home.

Understanding Smart Curtains

Smart curtains, also known as motorized curtains or automated window treatments, are an intelligent solution that allows you to control the opening and closing of your curtains with the touch of a button or a simple voice command. These curtains are equipped with motors and automation technology that eliminate the need for manual operation.

Advantages of Smart Curtains

  1. Convenience and Accessibility
Smart curtains provide a high level of convenience and accessibility. With the integration of smart home systems, you can control your curtains from anywhere in your home or even when you're away. Imagine being able to open or close your curtains remotely, allowing you to let in natural light or maintain privacy with ease.
  1. Energy Efficiency
Smart curtains offer energy-saving benefits. By automating the opening and closing of your curtains based on pre-set schedules or light sensors, you can effectively regulate the amount of sunlight entering your home. This feature helps to keep your home cool during hot summer days and insulates it during colder months, reducing the strain on your HVAC system and ultimately lowering energy consumption.
  1. Enhanced Privacy and Security
Privacy is a crucial aspect of any home, and smart curtains can provide an added layer of security. By scheduling your curtains to close automatically at nightfall or when you're away, you can deter prying eyes and protect your home from potential intruders. This feature not only enhances your privacy but also gives the impression that someone is home, even when you're on vacation.
  1. Integration with Smart Home Systems
Smart curtains seamlessly integrate with existing smart home systems, such as voice assistants or home automation hubs. This integration allows you to control your curtains using voice commands or through mobile apps, providing a cohesive and interconnected smart home experience. You can create custom schedules, group curtains with other smart devices, and even control them remotely while you're on the go.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Smart Curtains

When selecting smart curtains for your home, several factors should be taken into account:
  1. Compatibility
Ensure that the smart curtains you choose are compatible with your existing smart home ecosystem. Check if they can be integrated with popular voice assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, as well as with other smart devices you may have.
  1. Installation and Power Source
Consider the installation process and the power source required for the smart curtains. Some models are battery-operated, while others require a direct electrical connection. Choose the option that best suits your preferences and home layout.
  1. Control Options
Evaluate the different control options available for the smart curtains. While voice control is a popular choice, some models also offer remote control, smartphone apps, or wall-mounted control panels. Select the control method that aligns with your convenience and preferences.
  1. Design and Aesthetic Appeal
Smart curtains come in various styles, colors, and materials. Consider the design and aesthetic appeal of the curtains to ensure they complement your home decor. Look for options that offer customization, allowing you to find the perfect fit for your windows.

Installation and Maintenance Tips for Smart Curtains

Installing and maintaining smart curtains is relatively straightforward. Here are some tips to guide you through the process:
  1. Measure accurately: Before purchasing your smart curtains, measure your windows accurately to ensure the right fit. Take into account the width, height, and depth of the window frame to determine the appropriate curtain size.
  2. Follow manufacturer's instructions: Each smart curtain system may have specific installation instructions. Read and follow the manufacturer's guidelines carefully to ensure a proper and secure installation. This may involve mounting brackets, attaching the curtain track or rod, and connecting the motorized components.
  3. Consider power source options: Smart curtains can be powered either by batteries or through a direct electrical connection. Choose the option that suits your preferences and home layout. Battery-powered curtains offer flexibility and ease of installation, while wired curtains provide a continuous power source without the need to replace batteries.
  4. Ensure proper connectivity: If your smart curtains require connectivity to a smart home system or a central hub, ensure that they are properly connected and configured. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to connect your curtains to the desired control device or smart home ecosystem.
  5. Test the functionality: Once installed, test the functionality of your smart curtains. Open and close them using the control method you prefer, whether it's a smartphone app, voice command, or a remote control. Ensure that the curtains operate smoothly and respond accurately to your commands.
  6. Regular maintenance: Smart curtains generally require minimal maintenance. However, it's essential to keep them clean and free from dust or debris that could affect their operation. Regularly dust the curtain fabric or wipe it gently with a damp cloth, following the manufacturer's cleaning recommendations.
  7. Check and replace batteries: If you have battery-powered smart curtains, keep an eye on the battery life. Replace the batteries as needed to ensure uninterrupted operation. Some smart curtain systems may provide low battery alerts or indicators to remind you when it's time to replace the batteries.
  8. Troubleshooting: If you encounter any issues with your smart curtains, consult the troubleshooting section of the manufacturer's manual or contact their customer support for assistance. They can guide you through common problems and provide solutions to ensure your curtains function optimally.
Remember, the installation and maintenance process may vary depending on the specific smart curtain system you choose. Always refer to the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines for the most accurate and up-to-date information.
By following these installation and maintenance tips, you can enjoy the convenience and benefits of smart curtains while ensuring their longevity and smooth operation in your home.

2023.06.07 04:48 Mysterious-Prior6527 Routine maintenance /service recommendations after 120k miles

I own a 2016 4Runner limited trim and have done all factory-recommended servicing every 5000 miles at the Toyota dealership; I bought Toyota Care Plus so much of it was prepaid. I bought the car new, and it has been flawless. My goal is to drive it for a minimum of 200k miles (currently just under 110k).
My question is how do I continue regular maintenance/service after 120k miles? The reason I am asking is that the factory-recommended servicing schedule only goes to 120k, and I don’t want to take my car to the dealership every 5000 miles now that my Toyota Care Plus has ran out.
I know next to nothing about car maintenance, so I would really appreciate a detailed (but not too technical) guide on continued maintenance. How often should I change the oil? What are some of the other fluids I need to change and how often? Any big ticket item I need to know about and possibly act preemptively? I do know that the transmission fluids need to be changed every 50k miles after 100k.
Thanks!
PS: I will say that after purchasing a new 2023 Acura MDX for my wife, I’ve been appreciating the 4Runner even more. Obviously the Acura is a much more advanced vehicle (and I love it), but nothing can replicate that bank-vault Tahara feeling that the 4Runner provides.
