2023.05.31 04:28 CyannideLolypop Alterous Orientations and Microlabels?

Sorry if the flair is wrong, but there's no option for "orientation post". For those who don't know, alterous is like the nonbinary of attraction (the binary in this case being romantic vs. platonic). It's a broad term that covers a lot of different experiences rather than one specific well-defined type of attraction, so it can be anything from somewhere between platonic and romantic, to a mix of platonic, romantic, and something else undefined, to being fluid between romantic and platonic, to being just ambiguous, to being some other currently undefined type of attraction. Usually I see it describe as just wanting to be emotionally close to someone in a way that isn't explicitly or exclusively platonic or romantic.
That being said, alterous attraction can be just as complex, If not more, as other types of attraction, like romantic and sexual. There are alterous orientations, like bi-alterous, homo-alterous, hetero-alterous, etc., there's an analterous spectrum just like there's aro and ace specs, and all the works. The problem is, though, is that it's really difficult to find any information on said orientations, even though there is clearly evidence that they exist. I've managed to find a small handful, but not very many.
The kinda thing I got going on is like a mix of platonic attraction and some other kind of undefined mystery emotional attraction that isn't romantic or platonic, despite being mixed with platonic. Honestly, I feel it is mostly oriented towards men and nonbinary people, but still also sometimes women, though it's far more rare to be towards women. Oddly, I feel my aesthetic and sensual attraction leans more towards women (and nonbinary people).
This all started because I was looking for for labels for a couple of my OCs. I found bi-alterous for the one and dark grey-alterous for the other, but I was also looking for the alterous equivalent of achillean for the other. Since experiencing alterous attraction is so uncommon for him and because he is still young, all he knows is that it can be directed at other boys. Also, on a side note, would wanting both an alterous partner and a romantic and sexual partner be considered polyamorous? He would also have, I guess, a sensual relationship with both, like cuddling, kissing, and handholding and stuff. But he wouldn't more than one of either type of of partner, so IDK.
I figured if anyone would know about and be able to find information on obscure identities, it would be you guys, but let me know if there's anywhere else I can ask that might know.

2023.05.31 04:26 wildfire393 My May Metroidvania Roundup

This year, I've decided to do a monthly post reviewing the MV games I've completed that month. Some of these may be replays of older games, but largely I'm going to focus on stuff with a fairly recent release.
Any review will obviously be subjective, so for some personal context, I tend to prefer games that are close to the Metroid side of things than the Castlevania side of things. I'm also a fan of MVs that shake up the formula, either by adding in a new element (i.e. Yoku's Island Express mixing in pinball) or by focusing on a specific element of the MV formula and taking it to 11 (i.e. Aeterna Noctis being super deep on the challenging platforming, the La-Mulana games taking the puzzle-solving/adventure elements to the stratosphere, etc). But I'm also fond of games that just get the fundamentals right and provide a smooth and enjoyable experience. I'll also try to add objective measures/quantifications on games where I can.
May itself was a slower month as far as releases go, which is good because I spent most of the month catching up on April's releases.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox - This was a really interesting one. It's effectively a point-and-click-style Adventure game/Metroidvania hybrid. It features stylized CGI art that reminded me of classic adventure games like Grim Fandango, and a cool eldritch horror setting and decent mystery story. The adventure/puzzle elements were pretty cool as well, nothing quite as arcane as the La-Mulana games throw at you, but some interesting puzzles to solve.
Unfortunately, the Metroidvania aspects of the game were largely lacking. Platforming was pretty awkward - your double and triple jump abilities are dependent on "grappling" something above you with your eldritch companion, but it's not clear the rules by which this is targeted, so there's stretches where inexplicably you just can't use the ability since nothing overhead quite qualifies. Combat, likewise, had some major hiccups. It's very easy to get hit and comboed to death, enemies can often attack you from offscreen like right when you open a door, and many enemies feel spongey. There's only two real boss fights - the first and the last, all of the other "boss" sequences are escape or stealth sequences. There was, however, an interesting twist on the "corpse run" type mechanic. Enemies, when defeated for the first time, drop "ink", which is a currency you can use in the game to unlock and enhance abilities. If you die, you drop all of the ink you've accumulated since your last save point, but it doesn't return to the enemies that dropped it initially - they respawn, but without the ink they're in a weakened state that's easier to beat - so you can get back to where you died and recover it. But if you die on the way there, the ink returns to the enemies and you have to find and kill them all again. It felt like there's some stakes to dying, but never anything as feelbad as when you lose out on several hundred geo in Hollow Knight, for instance.
But the ink system ties in to another Metroidvania failing - most of the traversal abilities are unlocked via ink rather than via completing a specific goal in the game, so a lot of the ability-exploration loop is just sort of sold short. There's also several places where there are story gates rather than ability gates, which makes *some* amount of sense for a story-heavy game to make sure you encounter the story in the appropriate order, but weirdly, these aren't universal enough to actually enforce that. I missed a fairly major story point until much later in the game than I was supposed to have encountered it, which, eventually, stopped me from progressing further, but not until after doing a bunch of stuff that had assumed I'd encountered the point I missed, leading to some confusion. There also seemed to be some inconsistency around completion percentages, some areas weren't showing the amount of ink left to be found there, for instance.
Overall, it took me 15.6 hours to complete, making it slightly longer than an "average" game. But my overall verdict is that it's a game that had a great theory but was lacking in execution.

Afterimage - Here's one that's been generating a lot of buzz on this sub. It's definitely pretty deep into the Castlevania side of things - you have level-ups, stats, different equipable weapons and armor, enemies can drop items randomly, there's food crafting for permanent stat bonuses, and there are consumable potions that can be used during combat. Overall, it felt a lot like Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, only without the Soul Shards system and with a talent tree that increases base stats slightly and unlocks weapon skill.
The game is also huge. Larger than Bloodstained (which may have taken me a little longer to complete because it's much grindier), likely comparable to games like Hollow Knight and Aeterna Noctis in size. And it took me a behemoth 36.7 hours to complete. And the art on it is quite good. There's a small segment early in the game where you're running down a hill and the sun is in the background and your character shows up in silhouette and it just struck me as the kind of artistic moment that's not super common in the genre. Unfortunately, the other aesthetic and lore choices for the game aren't as great as the art. The music is bland, the voice acting and dialogue is cringey, and the story is straight-up incoherent. It throws a bunch of weird terminology at you right out the gate and never explains it, basically expecting that you have existing familiarity with it, but best that I can tell it doesn't map to any kind of existing folklore or media. And it's not even one of these like, slow burn deep lore reveal moments either, there's never any meaningful payoff for this incoherence. And as nice as the art is, the areas are largely generic and those that are more interesting lack coherent theming and end up mashing up several unrelated themes into a single zone. There's also a fair bit of visual clutter which can lead to taking damage from small flying enemies that blend into the foreground or background.
Combat is plagued by the Castlevania problem: in a game with leveling and stats, the difference between an enemy at or below your level and one above your level is extremely stark. 90% of the bosses were total pushovers, able to be bulldozed down while face-tanking them because your stats are just better than theirs, maybe with a potion or two if you're close. And then there's a couple of high-level bosses that feel overtuned in the other direction and are frustrating, with poorly/misleadingly-telegraphed attacks that lead to a lot of damage feeling unfair. Likewise, if you find yourself in an area where the regular monsters are considerably above your level, you're going to have a miserable time of it, as they soak attacks like a sponge and kill you in 2 hits. And if you slog through them, you frequently run into an ability gate before getting anywhere meaningful in the zone. Which begs the question, why isn't that ability gate at the START of the zone, stopping you from going in somewhere where the enemies are way above your level and you can't progress, rather than relying on a soft level-barrier? This is particularly annoying at one point in the mid-game, where there's two nearby entrances to an single area from the same previous area, but one leads you to the above outleveled situation and the other is at-level and is needed to progress. If you take the first path, you'll quickly conclude you shouldn't be in this area at all, which then leaves you blocked if you never check the other path.
Tying in to the story issues, there's also some truly bizarre choices made around the endgame. Like, there are a number of "endings" available, but most of them don't really resolve anything or feel like an ending or even elaborate on what the consequences of your actions really are, which doesn't matter because you reload as if nothing has happened immediately after. And after completing a couple of the endings, you unlock a "New Game+" mode, except it's nothing at all like any NG+ I've ever seen, it's a series of ten linear levels played with a different character to "fill in the gaps" (leaving me barely any more coherent than when I started) and unlocking a final zone and ending in the main game when completed.
Overall, it's not an awful game, and fans of Igavanias and Bloodstained will likely find a lot to enjoy about it. The weapon system is cool and the weapons feel distinct (though, final gripe, a lot of the Magic Subweapons don't have any explanation for what they're supposed to do. Seemingly they're supposed to increase some stats or something but there's nowhere that indicates which stats, for how much, and for how long). Platforming is snappy and responsive. There's a lot of world to explore. But ultimately, it's not the kind of thing that's rocketing to the top of my personal tier lists.

Convergence: A League of Legends Story - After catching up on both of those games, I had time for a shorter one, and Convergence had just hit, so I decided to check it out after hearing it's a Metroidvania. And it is! Maybe not the world's best, but it was a good palette cleanser.
The game feels a fair bit like Guacamelee, actually. It has areas you explore in a mostly-linear fashion, and most of the collectibles in these areas can be picked up your first time through, with thorough exploration and some platforming challenges. Combat often feels like a beat-em-up. You can unlock combat abilities in town to expand your range of moves. There's a fairly deep range of mobility upgrades you unlock, and the movement is incredibly responsive and largely feels great.
The big draw is the time manipulation abilities, which the game does with a unique flair. At any time, you can hold the left trigger to rewind time by up to five seconds, which rolls back any damage you take during that window too. Which is good, because your health starts at 3 (2 on hard mode) and there are no health upgrades available. However, there are a number of upgrades available to the number of rewinds you can hold, which effectively works as a buffer for your healthbar, as you can rewind judiciously to avoid damage as long as you have enough charges left. This mechanic also lets them make bosses that feel challenging but can frequently be beaten without dying - you just might have to rewind out of their attacks a dozen or more times in one fight, learning their attack patterns on the go and applying your knowledge immediately after rolling back a hit.
On the downside of things is the linearity. You can backtrack to miss things you missed the first time through an area, but once you unlock the gadget to highlight chests on your map, it's pretty easy to get everything on the first try, meaning you might only have to go back in to the first couple of areas. There's more backtracking in the central hub area as you revisit it between chapters with new abilities, but it's not as much as a "true" Metroidvania where you frequently have to revisit a zone with a new context. There's also a small mismatch between the rate of currency gain to the price of gadgets and combat abilities; I finished the game with half the combat ability tree still locked and one gadget incomplete, and there's really no incentive whatsoever to go grind ~1500 cogs 3-5 at a time to unlock everything at that point.
At ten hours, it's fairly average length for a Metroidvania, which may make the $30 pricetag seem a little steep for some. It's basically 2-3x what I normally expect to pay for a midsize Metroidvania that's not on sale. The linearity also means there's not a lot in terms of replayability. But for fans of League of Legends or any of its offshoots, there's some cool moments where you get to throw down with popular champions, and the story is pretty solid to boot.

So that's a wrap on May. Unless anything really catches my eye, I'm probably going to spend most of June replaying Aeterna Noctis on its harder difficulty and tackling the DLC, so my June wrapup may be a bit shorter.

2023.05.31 03:57 -King_Cobra- [Hiring] Digital Art, Fantasy Style of a Couple $150 Flexible Budget

Simple as the title states I'm looking to have a piece done of a character couple lounging together in a scene as a gift. Currently I'm not thinking I need a background more than anything simple like a contrast shape. Probably half or three-quarters body of the both of them.
I'm looking for something in a style closer to semi-realism, with painterly aspects if possible but I am open to more stylized looks. Specifically no anime though! As a bonus I have copious amounts of reference commission art for one of the pair which are all loved so your work in designing for her will be largely done for you!
Currently no specific pose ideas in mind but this is a reference which was shared with me that is a strong contender: https://i.imgur.com/aEMhXw8.jpg
Whatever you're offering the piece must be fit for printing at a decent scale as I intend to frame this for the gift. If your portfolio has couples scenes in it and matches my aesthetic preference you will be much more highly likely to receive the job!

I woke up to my wonderful wife by my side. She was still asleep. I gave her back rubs, earning a delightful coo from her.
“Psst, my love. Pancakes?”
Elena was still tired from last night. She spoke in a tired voice. “Mhmm, in bed please. I don’t think I can walk for now.”
I gave myself a pat on the back. “Your husbands still got it right?” I said smugly, earning a smile and blush from Elena.
I gave my wife a couple good kisses before heading downstairs. On my way to the kitchen, I noticed everyone else was up and already had breakfast.
Did I sleep in that much? We got home at 9:00pm… me and Elena started at 10:30pm… finished around 1:30… nope it’s only 9:30.
Everyone at the table looked like they didn’t get any sleep. Except for Chalta, who had a picture book next to her about aquatic animals, but why was she wearing headphones around her neck.
“Hey gang, how did everyone sleep?”
“Great daddy! Big brother gave me his special headphones, their so comfy and helped make everything quiet!”
“That’s great. Why did he give them to you though?”
Every adult looked at me like I said the worst dad joke in my life. Carlos put the headphones over Chalta’s ears while she continued eating.
My son looked right at me. “We heard it dad, all of it.”
Wait he doesn’t mean… oh sh-
Salisek interrupted my train of thought. “Where you even trying to be quiet?! We started hearing moans and had to cover Chalta’s ears! Also, three hours?! How?!”
“W-why didn’t you just go back to sleep?”
“Go back to sleep? With the last thought that my boyfriends’ parents were doing it in the other room?” Salisek looked at her parents. “You’re no better either! My ears work fine, and I know you two were having your own moment!”
That’s why the Venlil couple looked tired?
Carlos pointed at the princess. “Seriously! Did none of you think about Chalta! She’s like six! I wanna protect her innocence as much as possible, but it’s pretty hard when we have a grown women screaming in the next room ‘Oh yes, mi amor! Show me the nature of predators’! Like, what the hell is that even supposed to mean!”
My face was red with embarrassment. I could have sworn she whispered it! Tarvik and Talice also looked embarrassed.
Salisek continued from where Carlos left off. “That’s nothing compared to my dad who bleats like crazy! Yes, I know you do that, you were terrible at hiding it when I was growing up! I know you weren’t just giving mom a message! Then MOM was moaning ‘my dearest, show me the savagery humans have taught you’! That alone is not only wrong, just wrong, it’s also like… what does that even mean?!”
Talice spit out her orange juice! “Y-you heard that!”
“Seriously dad, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL SEPH!” my son said calmly. Wait, isn’t that a Venlil swear? “I gotta wait till marriage, but you couldn’t wait util we were all out of the house! GAWD DAYUM!”
We all looked over at Chalta who was still calmly eating her food. Smiling at the delicious bacon and eggs while looking at the pictures of fish. Those noise cancelling headphones where a really good investment.
“I’m… gonna make pancakes. Sorry.”
Everyone returned to their respective breakfast. As I walked past Tarvik I gave him a high five. Which earned a distasteful look from my son. I finished the pancakes and reached for the orange juice… I decided to go for the Gatorade instead.
My son noticed, “Why are you getting an energy drink?”
“Well since everyone knows I thought I might as well get ready for round too while you and Salisek take Chalta to the park or something. She hasn’t seen her Arxur playmate in a while.”
“Don’t you da- Arxur playmate?”
“Call Samuel, your old friend. I met him, he’s living with Arxur and her sister. The sister is close to Chalta’s age, and they became friends. Call them and set up a play date.”
“Now?”
“Yup. Now if you excuse me, I’m going back upstairs to make intense love with your mother.”
Tarvik and Talice looked at each other prompting a horrified look from the young couple.
“What? We might as well get it out of our systems?” Tarvik said, pulling his wife up and carrying her to the guest room.

I cannot believe that I had to grab my girl and sister because the “adults” got an itch from the Devils Tango! I decided to shake it off and enjoy the opportunity to spend more time with my sister. I decided to call Samuel another day. I’ll take Chalta to her old friend, but I wanted ‘us’ time.
I drove my car, my baby, of my own design and make. Mom said she’d keep it in good shape and boy did she! Electric and smooth, self-driving but I love having control. It also looked futuristic, as in glowing LED’s and a spoiler that moves on its own to adjust for aerodynamics.
The girls were sitting comfortably in the back. Salisek was reading to Chalta about blue whales.
“Wow! They’re so big!” said our wonderful princess.
“Yes, they are, apparently they weigh at most 330,000 pounds. Do you know how heavy that is?” said my adorable Venbig.
“No, is it a lot?”
“Your brother weighs about 200 pounds. It would take…” Salisek used the Calculator on her holopad. “1,650 of him to be the same as one of them!”
“That’s a lot of big brothers. What do they eat?”
“They eat very tiny fish called ‘krill’. They swim in very big groups. When a whale finds them, they open their mouths really big and filter the water out.”
It impressed me that Salisek was at the point where reading about predators didn’t bother her. I was proud at how far her family had come. They were once a timid bunch, now they’re riding death rides and cuddling with predators. It’s a good day to be a Floridian!
After some more driving we finally got to the area I wanted to spend the day. The Florida Mall had gone under some renovations in the past decades. The center of the mall had a small play area, perfect for kids. It also had some interesting places I wanted to check out with my, hopefully, future wife and little sister.
Chalta walked with us through the front doors, and she was in awe. She looked around at all the sights and smells the mall had to offer before tugging at my shirt. “Big brother, this place is so big! What is it?”
“It’s a mall Chalta. It’s a big store with a bunch of smaller stores in it. With some other places to play and eat. We have so much to explore!”
Salisek wrapped her tail around my waist. “So, where do we go first?”
“What are you in the mood for? Clothes, games, food, toys, cosmetics, technology, the list goes on.”
Chalta let out an audible gasp. “I KNOW! Let’s go look at dresses!”
“Like all dresses… or princess dresses. The Disney store has-”
“CINDERELLA!”
Chalta’s scream turned about a dozen heads in the mall. Salisek walked over to give Chalta uppies. “Well Carlos, I guess we’re going to the Disney store.”
“YAAAAAAY!”
I looked on my phone for the Florida Mall app so I could perfectly Navigate the store. The Disney store was more in the center since it was popular with tourists and would bring people further into the store. This wasn’t a big deal as it allowed the girls to take in more of the sights. Despite being only stores, the designs and aesthetics were there to wow and impress.
“We have nothing like this on Venlil prime. Most of the stores we have are outside, but because these are all indoors it gives them more options for comfort and decorations since they don’t have to worry about weather and can put a plug anywhere.”
“I love the pretty lights! The ladies in the windows are pretty. I wish I was as pretty like them.”
I stopped in my tracks and scooped up my sister from Salisek’s arms. I held her close and looked her dead in the eyes.
“What did you just say? You are the prettiest of the pretty! You know that right?” Chalta looked unconfident in her appearance. Time to be a big brother. “I want you to repeat after me, I am the prettiest of the pretty. Say it!”
“I am the prettiest of the pretty?”
“Louder!”
“I am the prettiest of the pretty.”
“Louder, give it all you got!”
“I AM THE PRETTIEST OF THE PRETTY!”
Some random group of young women where walking past us and heard our conversation and decided to join in. “Yes, you are gator girl!” “The prettiest of the pretty!” “You are so cute!” “I wish I had your claws!” “*squeal*AWW, BABY!”
At moments like these I realized, I am such an awesome brother. Salisek seemed to think so. The way she moved her tail and ears indicated attraction. Can’t say I blame her; responsibility is one of the hottest traits a man can possess.
Chalta giggled in my arms and gave me a forehead kiss. “I love you, big brother.”
“I would die for you.”
After some more walking we finally arrived at the Disney store. I let Chalta down and she raced to the Princess section. There were a variety of styles of new and old characters. Snow White, Belle, Merida, Ariel, Mulan, Tiana… but we all knew what she wanted.
“Cinderella! Big brother look it’s Cinderella!”
“I can see.” I looked around for one of the employees. An older Hispanic women caught my attention, and I flagged her down. She seemed to know the drill and wasn’t even surprised that Chalta was an Arxur. I didn’t know why until she spoke.
“Hello niña, what can I help you with?”
“I wanna Cinderella dress!”
The women whose name was Camila, indicated by her name tag, looked Chalta up and down. I had a feeling she was getting her measurements. Grandma would do the same thing when fixing our clothes. Some women just had a knack for knowing your size after getting a good look at you.
“Give me a moment.” She went to the back and pulled out an extra small in… Arxur?! “I always keep spares just in case. This should fit your body type nicely. Would you like to try it out?”
Chalta looked at the dress, mouth agape and eyes wide. “Yes. A thousand times yes.”
She ran into the changing room and Salisek followed to help her with any zippers and fittings. I took the time to ask Camila some much needed questions.
“Camila… how often do Arxur shop for princess dresses?”
“A lot of Arxur. Most of the refugees from Wriss love getting pretty. They just don’t show it in public.”
While I was trying to process the information, I noticed a tall figure approaching us. It was an Arxur, a very big female Arxur. The gator women paid no attention to us as she confronted Camila.
“Hello Camila, I’m here to pick up my order. Under the name, Vraka.”
“Of course, you said it’s for work, right?”
“Yup, boss said I could get it here. They really want to make young Arxur feel more comfortable at Disney.” Vraka turned her gaze towards me and took on a defensive tone. “What? Got a problem with an Arxur making little Arxur girls dreams come true?”
“N-no ma’am. In fact, I think it’s rather beautiful.”
Vraka smirked and pulled a picture from her wallet that was in the greenish blue dress I just realized she was wearing. Arxur usually don’t wear clothes, but since coming to Earth they’ve started adhering to a lot of our customs. Whether it was for integration purposes, or they just liked it was anyone’s guess.
“Sorry sir, but I already have a human in my life.” The human in question must be the man in the picture next to her and the smaller Arxur. Wait a minute, is that Samuel?
“Does this human know a man by the name of Dennis… and an Arxur named Chalta.”
Vraka’s eyes shot wide open and pulled the photo back. “How do you know that?”
“Big brother! How do I look in my dress!”
I turned around to see… oh my god. The most beautiful princess in all the land had somehow waltzed into the real world with grace unlike any other.
Salisek followed behind and both the girls were frozen at the sight of the huge Arxur.
“C-Carlos… who is this?”
I quickly answered to calm her down. “Chalta, you had an Arxur friend on the ship, right? What was her name?”
“A-Akara.” Chalta stuttered.
Vraka’s eyes lit up and a smile cracked beneath those huge teeth. “Akara! I got someone you might like to see!” A small Arxur appeared from the direction of the toy section. Not as small as Chalta, but definitely a child.
“Chalta!?”
“Akara!”
The two girls ran toward each other and embraced in a beautiful display of affection. It’s good we came today, otherwise we might have missed them.
I gently grabbed Salisek’s hand, she seemed to be feeling better. Seeing that the small Arxur was clearly friendly and familiar with Chalta, it only seemed natural that it would help calm her senses. Still, I could tell she was overwhelmed with fear, mainly from Vraka. A smaller Arxur was one thing, but Vraka was anything but small.
“Vraka this is my girlfriend Salisek. I’m Carlos, Dennis’s son. I used to know Samuel from our old jobs. The little princess you see is Chalta, I’m sure Akara has told you something.”
“Yes, she has, thank you. I don’t think you have any comprehension of just how happy Akara is. Finding friends and adjusting to Earth’s customs was hard enough for a young Arxur. Everything we’ve seen seems like a paradox from what were used to. Even you, Salisek. It’s nice to know some Venlil aren’t measly cowards.”
Salisek swallowed. “I-it’s n-nice to know n-not all Arxur are vicious k-killers, b-but Ch-Chalta already p-proved that t-to m-me.”
Vraka gave a hardy chuckle. Arxur voices are surprisingly deep, it’s hard to imagine that might be Chalta one day. “You do have some moxxy, I’ll give you that. Not even some humans would call us killers to our faces without trying to get on our bad side. Yet here you are fighting fear, and not letting it control you from some decent banter. I’m impressed.”
The girls continued playing and I noticed that Akara had a purple dress. I assumed that dresses where popular with Arxur women since they didn’t have to worry about their tails being constrained and it would help humans better identify their sex.
“Vraka, is Samuel here today?”
“No, but I’ll tell him about you. He’s at work right now. Funny thing, when he came back, he talked about some fond memories of you and your family. I assume you too go way back?”
“Yeah, but I changed jobs and after keeping in tough for a while he just… stopped. I was always worried and tried to contact him, but nothing happened. I just assumed he moved on and that was that.”
“Really, just like that?” Vraka’s voice indicated sympathy. That seemed to take Salisek off guard slightly. I guess she assumed that most Arxur couldn’t feel much empathy. Chalta seemed to be an exception due to her age.
“Yeah, could you talk to him about it for me? I don’t know if he’ll open up to you and it might be wrong, but I just want to know if he’s okay.”
“I’ll get your contact information, and I think Samuel already has your fathers, but as of now you don’t need to worry. Samuel is doing fine.”
“Thanks. Say, how did you and Samuel meet?”
“We met while I was stationed on Earth with Chief Hunter Isif to help with survivors.”
“Really, why did you decide to stay?”
Vraka’s face seemed to turn red almost instantly. Did I say something wrong? Wait, what did dad say about them.
“…Um. W-well you see. I-It’s actually a reaaaaaaly funny story.” Dear God, they totally did it. “Um, HEY LOOK AT THE KIDS!”
Not wanting to make the situation more awkward I diverted my attention to Chalta and Akara. The little Arxurs continued playing and I could only laugh at seeing something so precious. Salisek’s tail motion showed she agreed. Even Vraka’s cheeks blushed a little seeing her sister so happy.
Akara grabbed a red lightsaber from her dress pocket while Chalta grabbed a nearby magic wand bubble dispenser. While they were “battling” I looked at the price of the dress. A decent price but I was worried Chalta would wear it so often she would break it.
Like us and our Spider-Man costume.
Vraka seemed to sense my concern. “Don’t worry about it, I get discounts. We got a buy one, get one free sale right now.”
Freakin’ score!
I went and purchased two dresses of the same size. I also managed to find an extra secret surprise for Chalta when we get to Disney World this weekend.
Salisek was still anxious around Vraka but attempted to make small talk anyways. “S-so Vraka, h-how’s Earth? Do you l-like it more than W-Wriss?”
“Oh, much better. I’m always fed, and humans are also surprisingly warm to be around. If the socialization gets to be too much I can just politely leave and they’re okay with it. Their lives and cultures are all so interesting; I’ve been spending a lot of time studying them.”
“Oh, t-that’s very nice to know… um, I k-know I shouldn’t ask but h-have you ever… p-participated in a r-raid?”
Woah! Okay, even Vraka was shocked about that question!
“W-why would you ask if I participated in a raid?!”
“I DON’T KNOW!”
Vraka and I were stunned. Somehow the girls ignored the yelling, but Camila was watching from a distance. She was definitely listening to our conversation like a soap opera.
Vraka took a moment to think and took a deep breath.
“I was part of Chief Hunter Isif’s fleet. I haven’t been on many raids, but I’ve still participated in some. Many of them on Venlil Prime.”
Salisek started to tremble. I gave her soothing scratches behind her ear to calm her down. I gestured that she could stop if it was too much, but she insisted. I couldn’t imagine why she’d do that, but she made her choice, so Vraka continued.
“When Earth was attacked, I was one of the many Arxur sent to help in the aftermath. That’s where I met Samuel. I eventually left the fleet, not because we were still eating… you know, but because I didn’t want to leave Earth. After me and Samuel had gotten… acquainted, I had gotten a taste of the love humans offered. I realized for the first time in my life that I was missing something, genuine love. Not obligatory or fake love many of us would emulate for benefits, but real love.”
Vraka’s voice started to tremble ever so slightly. She didn’t look like she was about to cry, but she sounded like she was fighting a tear. “Little by little everything that I believed about strength and usefulness, about sentience and betterment, was broken down into nothingness. Salisek, know I have been to Venlil prime. I have killed and eaten many Venlil. At the time, I enjoyed it. Now I hate myself for that. I realized what I’ve done. Since I’ve worked at those ‘theme parks’ the humans have, I’ve had to work with other prey species. I call them friends now.”
Salisek’s tail wrapped around my waist. I could feel her calming slightly as Vraka started showing more signs of emotion. “Nothing I do can erase my past, but I am trying to do better. Still, I understand if you hate me. I won’t judge, but please don’t blame Akara. She’s never been outside of home. Any sapient thing she’s eaten, it’s because that’s all we-”
“I know.” Salisek had finally worked up the courage to talk to the Arxur without stuttering. “I don’t know everything about the Arxur, but I’ve been talking with Carlos and Dennis. I know you didn’t have much of a choice.”
Tears formed in Vraka’s eyes, and she spoke humbly. “I… I’m sorry. For everything we’ve done, I’m sorry.”
Salisek let go of my waist, and with minor hesitation, embraced Vraka. Vraka looked like she wanted to return the favor, but she looked as though she was debating her worthiness of it.
“I can’t forgive every Arxur, and I don’t know if the thought of what you’ve done will ever leave my mind, but I know Arxur can show love. They can show regret, sadness, fear, and empathy. I don’t even know if I should, but I want Chalta to grow up in a world where she doesn’t need to hate who she is. If I want that, then maybe I need to break some barriers and accept some people can change.”
A small, singular tear found its way down Vraka’s cheek and onto Salisek’s fur. “W-what?”
“I… forgive you.”
Vraka finally accepted the hug and pulled Salisek in for a strong embrace. “Th-thank you. You have no idea how long I’ve been battling my own demons ever since I came to Florida. Thank you.”
Watching them embrace warmed my heart. I would have joined but I felt a little princess tug at my shirt.
“Big brother, why are the sisters hugging?”
“Because they love each other my little princess.”
“…okay.”

Memory Transcription Subject: Vraka, Arxur Defector, Disney Cast Member
Date [Standardized Human Time]: November 25, 2136
While Carlos was playing with Vraka and Chalta I sat on a bench with Salisek. We agreed that the human had enough energy to spare for two active kids. I’ll admit that while I felt guilty hugging a, rather large, Venlil, her touch was much appreciated. We chatted a bit about our lives.
“Vraka, where do you work? I know you said at Disney, but doing what?”
I let out a heavy sign. “Tell no one.”
“Lips are sealed.”
“I work as… a princess. Disney likes representation so giving Arxur girls their own princess before their own proper movie made sense.” And it worked too, the kids love it. Human, Arxur, hell even a Yotul.
“Sorry what?”
“A princess! The outfit was for Snow White, or a guess Snow Grey now.”
Salisek looked like she was trying hard not to laugh. *pftt*“I’m sorry, ha. But that’s adorable!”
“Adorable huh! Well guess what, I bought a second dress because my human like a little role play!”
“…I beg your pardon.” Salisek’s face when to disgust and had an light orange color to it.
Heh, I’ll show her adorable!
“Oh yeah, sometimes I’ll send Akara out with his grandparents and we get busy after his big lonely Arxur princess craves some release. Think about that when you picture me in a dress! Wait… actually don’t I got way to ahead of myself. Oh, Prophet please forget!”
That was so stupid of me. God this is so embarrassing!
I covered my face with my clawed hands. After a moment I looked up at Salisek, who’s look went from disgust to… curiosity?
“Vraka, Carlos and I have an agreement. We’re doing the whole, ‘wait till marriage thing’, while I don’t mind, I am concerned that we won’t be… compatible. Is there any advice you can give me?”
Is she serious? This is what she wants to ask.
“Well… I don’t know much about Venlil anatomy, but it can’t be much different than Humans and Arxur. If you want my advice, let him lead. If he’s lost, help him find his way. Take your time and enjoy each other’s presence. But most of all, when in doubt remember this, humans are endurance predators. Do with that what you will.”
Her face was completely orange now, and she used her paws to bury her tail in her face.
“Oh Seph, I shouldn’t have asked.”
“Heh, you innocent Venlil!”

Single/Taken/Complicated: Single
Seeking Relationship/Friends/Squish/Other: Relationship, down for friends too!
Romantic Orientation: Romantically attracted to masculine folks, would also consider a QPR with any gender. I haven’t tried dating since I finally figured out I’m ace a couple years ago so bear with me please! I’m sex-positive but super indifferent. Could go the rest of my life without it but not opposed with the right person. Happy to cuddle though!
Gender: AFAB feminine NB
Pronouns: She/they
Age: 30
Height/Build: 5’4 average weight, could probably do with more squats
Physical Description: I’m white with a splash of Filipino. Dark brown hair and eyes, light skinned because I’m a creature of the night. Prone to bouts of bright red hair. Lots of piercings and easily visible tattoos. My clothing aesthetic is matching sweatsuits or “found lying on a beach somewhere.”
Personality Description: it’s the childhood trauma that makes me occasionally funny. I can easily pass for an extrovert but I need solitude to recover. My favorite root vegetable is the parsnip. I play on casual mode because I feel impotent rage when video games are better than me and I’m only here for the story anyway. I’m aegosexual so I read super smutty books but I cringe at sex scenes if I’m watching tv/movies with other people. Will serenade you from the shower with an eclectic repertoire; one day it could be Enya and the next it could be The Doors. I was kind of a big deal in high school choir so it probably won’t be miserable to listen to for the rest of your life. I will crochet your family gifts but I’m limited to rectangles. I like to watch K-dramas without dubs because I think romance sounds lovely in Korean. Walking around the local conservancy is my favorite way to top up on nature and vitamin D, and my cat Winnie is responsible for that last serotonin molecule rattling around my head. I don’t plan on having children but I can totally channel grandma energy and hold other people’s babies!
I’m in graduate school so I’ll be stuck where I am for a while and will probably need to work in this area for at least a year after but I’m not committed to Wisconsin forever. Building a witch house in the woods is non-negotiable however. Would like to live within reasonable driving distance to a metropolitan area but I like the small town feel.
I’m not super keen on dating, but I want to be someone’s person and I want someone to be mine.
Edit: Pictures of me I forgot to add
Edit again: idk why Imgur wants you to think the pics are NSFW, they’re innocent I swear

Introduction

It is not surprising that most audiophiles have positive opinions of the Blon Company when it comes to their influence on the audiophile community, their influence on high-quality sound at reasonable prices, and especially their infamous Blon BL03 which attracted the attention of many seasoned audiophiles. Blon has released other IEMs, such as the BL05 and BL05s, which have a different signature than their typical V-shape tuning, in contrast to the tuning of the BL03 model. And now, for the first time, they have partnered with Hawaiian Bad Boy, a well-known audiophile reviewer and YouTuber who has recently released another project called the Blon X HBB Z300. Hawaiian Bad Boy is known throughout the audiophile community for his successful collaborative projects. And today I'll be doing a review of the Z300, but first I'd like to clear up a few things.

Disclaimer

*I am thankful to HBB himself and the kind staff at Linsoul for setting up this unit for review. The same is true for this evaluation as it has been for all of my evaluations: all of the ideas I've discussed below are wholly my own, original thoughts that haven't been influenced by anyone. If interested, go to this link.
*I am not associated with the connection, and I receive no financial assistance from anyone.
*For the remainder of the review, I will refer to these IEMs as "Z300."
*I am using different Ear-tips for convenience and better versatility.
*Finally, I will only evaluate the Z300 based on their performance, even though I will explain how it feels and seems physically and aesthetically.

Specification

The Z300 is an IEM with a single dynamic driver that employs a 10mm silicone diaphragm and powerful magnets. The faceplate has a design inspired by dragons, and the shells are made of zinc alloy with a surface that is tough 18K gold plated. Despite feeling heavy in the hands, the shells are simple to put in and secure in the ears. There is never any discomfort, not even after extended use. The shells' sturdy construction feels promising. A 4 strand braided high purity cable wire with distinctive 2 pin connectors and a 3.5mm straight termination plug is included in the package. The 2 pin connectors on the cables included with BL03 and BL05 feel identical to this cable's connectors. The cable has a great quality feel and is pleasant to hold. The Z300 Package also includes a blon jute-like storage pouch and two different types of eartips in various sizes. Regarding the technical details, the sensitivity is 115dB, and the impedance is 28 Ohms. The range of the frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz.

Sound

This is the first time I've heard a tuning like this from Blon; I've heard their BL03, BL05, BL mini, etc., and they are typically sound exciting or bright. The Z300 sounds balanced and has a smooth presentation, in contrast to the Bl03, which has a lot of mid bass and sub bass and seems to have a lot of energy in the upper mid range and lower treble. Basically, even though I was aware that HBB tuned it, Blon's unconventional tuning surprised me. The Tripowin Z300's sound is similar to the Tripowin Piccolo's in terms of perceived performance, with the exception that the Z300 has a less energetic upper midrange and lower treble than the Piccolo. The Z300, in my opinion, is more resolved and tonally superior even after being less energetic because of the balance between the two regions. The treble comes across as nicely expansive and full of good details, the mid range sounds forward and lively, and the bass responds with enough warmth to make up for the natural timbre that permeates the entire mix. Let's learn more about Z300's audio output.

https://preview.redd.it/pkgovz2s113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=16b139fdaa32639ffafc0d9bfe98eab050336e1b

Treble
When comparing the Z300's response to other IEMs in this price range, it is impossible to do so fairly. However, I can say that it is smoother than the Kiwi Ears Cadenza, denser than the Tin Hifi C2, more expansive and spacious than the QKZxHBB Khan, and more detailed than the Tripowin Piccolo. The treble is silky and smooth, and the notes' details are more than sufficient. The notes don't distort or become single notes or cause any noticeable or avoidable sibilance because the upper treble has nice extension. The vocals definitely stand out and sound complete, while still maintaining a natural sound throughout. Of course, the instruments sound playful, with good notes that are less sharp and produce lovely details. While Cadenza will likely respond similarly, this one sounds softer and more comforting. The C2 displays more details, but at the expense of note weight and lean note quality. The response fills and sounds more personal because the QKZxKhan is way too energetic. In comparison to the Piccolo's off balance in the lower and upper treble, the Z300 sounds even. To keep the energy balance between the upper and lower treble smooth and consistent, the Z300's lower treble sounds sufficiently energetic. The vocals stand out in the mix while the instruments are audible and distinct. Of course, no one in the area sounds in any way offensive. In conclusion, the treble region is presented in a seamless, comforting, and satisfying manner overall.

Mid Range
When compared to other IEMs, the midrange sounds forward and musical in the mix, and the transient flow of energy feels constant and intact. Upper midrange and lower treble energy are essentially equal in intensity. In comparison to other IEMs in this price range, I find the response to be more melodious and aesthetically pleasing. Obviously, the Cadenza outperforms every other IEM in terms of tonality, especially in the mid range, but the Z300's response is more precise and nuanced. The C2 and the Khan are either perceived as being more airy and lean or as being overly spirited or forward. Similar to the others, but with a more personal tone, is the Piccolo. The vocals in this rendition sound forward and possess enough energy to come across clean and pleasing. The upper mid range of the Z300 sounds realistic and clear. Instruments, on the other hand, sound more expressive and resist the tendency to sound metallic. The vocals and the instruments sound their best in this region, which maintains the organic timbre. I'd say the mid bass leaks in the lower mid range and by how much determines how dull or clean it can sound. The lower mid range builds the foundation of the natural characteristics of every note in the upper frequencies. Similar to how all other IEMs sound in this area, the bass' influence causes the response to behave differently. The C2 and the khan sound clear, compared to the dense and thick Cadenza and piccolo. The Z300 strikes a better balance between sounding dense and clean; the instruments and vocals sound thick and dense as they should while maintaining clear, easily recognisable notes. The bass notes also appear to be thick and organic, which is how they might actually sound. The mid range is presented overall in a lively, musical, and pleasant manner.

Bass
To be completely honest, I'd say that the bass hits HBB's target preference perfectly. There is just enough bass to bring out the warmth and organic timbre while still being effective. Because the bass response of the Piccolo is one or two dB less than that of the Z300, the bass is more expansive and explosive than the Piccolo. However, because the Piccolo puts out a lot more impacts and hits, the bass may not feel as full on the Piccolo. However, the Khan's response is more explosive and quick, which some people may find overwhelming. If I were to discuss the control, the C2 would be the best-suited to handle it. Candenza excels in its ability to sound dense and organic while still being enjoyable to listen to. Although the presence of the mid range is really good, the bass on the Z300 is more prominent in the sub bass region. Similar to how the mid bass's slams are impactful and sound straightforward, the sub bass's response is well extended and induces a supple sensation of rumble in the ear canal with hard hitting punches. Sometimes, but usually when listening to bass-heavy tracks, the bass can become boomy. When compared to instruments like Piccolo or Cadenza, the bass is more textured and the note details are good. Even the bass guitar sounds natural with that thick and slamming response, thanks to the impressively realistic vibe that kick drum or toms produce. Overall, the bass response is powerful, punchy, and well-done.

Technical Performance

Regarding technical performance, the Z300 does face off against other IEMs in this price range, so I consider its capabilities to be higher than those of an average IEM. The imaging is sharp and the stage is wide enough to sound spacious. The notes are really well separated from one another as well. The resolution is good, particularly how expressively the macro details appear, and the speed of resolvability is comparable to other IEMs in this price range.

https://preview.redd.it/sqrqwils113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a210fc91eedab695e89d778e847b0f9a76bdd9e0

Soundstage, Sound Imaging & Separation
The stage set is effectively organised and constructed, and it is both wide and far. The notes' distant and distinct characteristics make them easy to distinguish, so the separation is really nice. Even though the imaging could be sharper, I still think it is better than the Piccolo and the Khan and can bring clarity to the mix.

Speed & Resolution
The resolution is also good, making it simple to approach macro details while finding enough interest in the micro details. Even though the attack and decay of notes could have been resolved more quickly, they are on par with other IEMs.

Sound Impressions

Sources
Tempotec V6 - The response of the Z300 sounds more clear and detailed when coupled with the V6. The mid range sounds forward and balanced, while the treble is more exuberant and full of good details. Because the bass is well-controlled and doesn't overpower the other tones, it sounds lively and crisp. I really like the pairing with the V6 because, aside from the imaging being sharper and the stage being larger, the technical performance feels the same.

https://preview.redd.it/4xj61kct113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48eb0d0589cb24796249835fe7c22b8150be2327

iFi Hipdac - Because of the aggressive forwardness of the vocals and the instruments' attempts to respond more sharply, the treble becomes reserved and slightly dull when paired with the Hipdac, while the midrange completely takes over as the mix's main star. In the mix, the bass is given more prominence, and the mid-bass response may even increase. Except for the stage becoming a little bit smaller, I didn't notice any changes to the technical performance. Although this pairing provided a fun and exciting response, I still prefer V6 pairing to the Hipdac.

https://preview.redd.it/fcncpdlt113b1.jpg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20545437d1f8677b2ef3fa1a36bad6b1f3f3d3b5

Megatron - I noticed that the response from the pairing with Megatron was becoming more transparent and lucid as I listened to it. While the bass response became more sub bass obsessed, the details and energy in the treble and mid range became more sophisticated. The stage got a little bit narrower while the imaging and resolution got better. The way the notes were divided up still felt the same. The technical performance felt the same aside from that. The treble region has sibilance, but it is rarely audible. I like the details, but I'd still rather pair the Z300 with the V6 because the transparent response lowers the tonality and makes the IEM sound generic.

Conclusion

To be completely honest, I'm not as enthusiastic about many of the audiophile collaborations as I am about the Z300 to recommend them. Their price point is reasonable, their build quality is promising, their sound is excellent for the money, and their tuning is excellent, with a great balance between the bass and higher frequencies. I would still say that these perform better than they are priced, even with my slight bias in favour of the tuning because it perfectly matches my preferences. So, yes, I wholeheartedly advise anyone who appreciates a balanced sound signature and a sound that sounds more natural than detailed and bright to invest in the Blon X HBB Z300.

2023.05.30 20:38 mynameoqueso Heavily decorated nurseries

I just don’t get it!
Why so many shelves and random decor? The amount of dusting you’ll have to do seems like unnecessary added stress.
Also, why do people aesthetically arrange their drawers? You’re going to pull things out left and right and just toss them back in, so you’ll have to reorganize every couple days.
My babies get a couple paintings on the wall and a nightlight lol.

2023.05.30 19:28 Albinkiiii How did Depeche Mode last into the 90s?

I’ve noticed a lot of stereotypically 80s bands pretty much have their career killed by grunge and changing trends of the early 90s. Depeche Mode has Violator in 1990 which makes sense, because usually the first couple years of a decade are an extension of the previous, but throughout the 90s they kept their relevancy, and kept the quality up. I was listening to “Its No Good” and I saw it was from 1997. I was so shocked, and amazed. How do you think they survived the changing times when other bands of their time faded away?

2023.05.30 17:11 Life_Departure481 MEWING RUINED MY LIFE (MIGHT CAUSED ME PTSD/C-PTSD)

THIS POST IS GONNA BE LONG
I'm a young woman (18F) struggling with debilitating symptoms of trauma, I'm not diagnosed as local doctors are not fully aware of the symptoms of trauma, my family is unaware of the things going on in my body for 24 hours, it's a real struggle suffering on this alone. This all started at the end of 2020, It was very sudden, I don't know what was happening to me, it was as if I opened a Pandora’s box. But the only thing that I know is that I had been doing Mewing, I suffer from chronic Halitosis since when I was a freshman in high school, it has changed me as a person, negatively and positively, my strength as a person was tested by this, it made me resilient, understanding, and spiritual, however, I can't deny how it affected my self-esteem, well-being, and overall mental health, you can check this subreddit badbreath to know how serious this problem is, so I tried to do Mewing to improve salivation and decrease the odor that might come out of my mouth and nasal passages because even if I don't talk to people, I would still get reactions, mostly even three meters away, and that Mewing is dubbed as the correct way of breathing, I thought it might help me with clearing any excess mucus on my nasal passages, I did it for a week, but it was exhausting! I couldn't fall asleep as I was preoccupied with the idea of whether my tongue "is in the right posture" or "in the right place", I also could not eat well as I was obsessed if "I'm doing it right", or "is my body's posture right?", I was completely upset at the end and decided to stop it, then interestingly, I was able to “put my tongue up in my palate” on ‘autopilot mode’ as I was able to relax, I just did not care whether I am able to do it "right" or "not", as if "my body was doing it for me" at that time, I was feeling very ecstatic and confident, chest wide, head up, and my body feels balanced and at flow, it lasted for a month, I feel that it is helping me on my Halitosis as I was able to relax thus more salivation, not until something totally unexpected happened, I know I will not be able to write this story without sounding absurd and silly but it is indeed has taken my life into a seemingly butterfly effect, as said, this happened back in the end of 2020, two years have been passed, it's hard for me to remember what really happened vividly, or the fact that this experience was so surreal in me that I cannot know what really happened, or that its vagueness is what causes the trauma...
Below is my text to a doctor who specializes in somatic practice, neuroscience, and natural health medicine, he hasn't replied yet and I understand that, however, it was hard for me to articulate what really happened at those moments, I have found this text which was a year ago. It is the closest possible vivid description of what happened, I realize that I needed to talk to my therapist at that time so I tried to remember photographically the event that lead me to this.
https://imgur.com/a/vhsvoft
After reading this text, half of me would say WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK is this? and half of me would vaguely remember and feel what happened just by reading those text, as if ‘it is is happening now’, as if this great energy is ‘stuck’ in my body for so long and just waiting to be ‘release’, I have seen and read some works of Dr. Peter Levine, such as Healing Trauma, and it talks about releasing this energy through sensation, and that Trauma cannot always stems up from major catasrophes, as I dig deeper into the topic, I realize prior to experiecing some symtoms of trauma, my nervous system has already been alarmed by my Halitosis, whenever I am around with people, I tried ‘not to breathe’, so that they would not smell me, feeling very anxious and that it was not only a psychological but a somatic struggle as well, leaving my nervous system vulnerable, I became isolated, from a joyful and ‘extroverted’ kid to an anxious, shy girl, it was a very Kafkaesque situation for me, I was deprived of my social well-being, which we know is the prime gauge if a person is susceptible to trauma, it made me a sensitive individual, I tried achieving academical achievements to feel that void, I was religiously trying to find the purpose of my life, I was trying to be a strong person, however ‘ the straw that broke the camel’s back’ truly happened to me, a lot of factors needs to be considered: as said on my text, my cousins were coming here in our place due to the pandemic, they were precious kids but I was so nervous when they came, I am afraid of their parents judgment, their judgement. I felt very physically and emotionally restricted in the only place where I found relaxation, our house was a safe place for me at that time, and it was until they came. I was also self-conscious about my appearance at that time, mainly due to Mewing as well, trying to gain confidence through aesthetics, I wanted a ‘holistic change’ after the pandemic, I wanted a life that is full of aplomb and is not filled with coping mechanisms and isolation, since the pandemic helped me as mostly everything was taking place online, I was anxious what will be my life if the pandemic ends, I knew I would suffer again so I tried to practice Mewing, and for the fact that most of the articles and people who post and talk about it are not mainly about health but about complexion, I was vulnerable to not ‘buy into it’, I was also a perfectionist, ‘high achiever’ as if my artistic trait and perfectionism coupled with a nervous system susceptible to trauma did not do well for me at that time, and that I was physically inactive due to the pandemic and was always on my phone, I was overstimulated.
Now, am still recovering from all this, my brain is so confused, all I can say is that don't try to do anything that could disrupt the natural process of the human body and its physiology, especially if it targets the nervous system, the brain and the human psychology, and since Mewing targets all these, don't 'DIY' it as it may cause negative effects (body dysmorphia, cognitive problems, TMJ as some post from this sub, or maybe possible symptoms of PTSD/C-PTSD as what might happened to me)

2023.05.30 16:50 Nana_923 Best Tips For Construction Site Inspection Equipment Planet Equipment

Best Tips For Construction Site Inspection Equipment Planet Equipment
What are the best tips for construction site inspection? Here are five inspection suggestions to bear in mind when purchasing old machinery. Equipment purchasers typically experience difficulty finding appropriately used machinery that is in good working condition. The procedure becomes more difficult if the buyer is unskilled or doesn’t know what to look for while inspecting old heavy machinery.

https://preview.redd.it/eksxdmg4fz2b1.jpg?width=311&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=378906e9af252a1d48c7be6ff46b1831da5c4a91
The prior maintenance and usage history of used construction equipment determines its condition. Therefore, no client would take the chance of importing second-hand foreign machinery into Nigeria only to incur high maintenance or replacement expenses as a result of the machine’s unidentified defects.
If you want to purchase any secondhand heavy machinery, take into account the five inspection recommendations in this article. Then, when evaluating a used equipment, make use of these insights to identify any warning signs and buy with confidence.
  1. Visually obvious structure Check It is common to begin visually inspecting an object from the ground up. Start by looking at the machine’s wheels or bottom undercarriage. Next, look over the machine’s frame, add-ons, and other exterior parts.
Keep the following in mind when you check things out: Does the machine’s structure seem to have significant fractures or damage? Are there any fish plates or welding traces visible on the machine’s body? Do the hydraulic cylinders, the engine panel, or the machine’s foundation have any oil leaks? What condition are the wheels and undercarriage in? What state is the machine accessory in? Look at the illustration in the graph below. The arrows point to certain locations near the Caterpillar excavator equipment during the visible structural inspection so that problems may be identified early. Verify the areas listed below during a structural inspection of the machine before purchasing it and shipping it to Nigeria.
  1. Inside Cabin Inspection Aesthetics and attractiveness shouldn’t even cross your thoughts while you assess the inside of the cabin. Instead, the heavy machinery is guided and maneuvered by its control, steering, and backup systems. So what should a Nigerian buyer consider while inspecting the interior of a heavy machinery cabin?
All switches, gauges, and indicators on the equipment dashboard should be on your checklist.
The foot pedals, joystick, and steering wheel are all in excellent working condition. The windows, lights, mirrors, seat belt, and other components all operate well. Cab accessibility or EROPS (extended rollover protective structure). Check out the heating and cooling system.
  1. Check the Clock’s Hours
The age of the machine is important when examining the documented running hours for secondhand construction equipment. For instance, if a wheel loader machine with a four-year lifespan shows a meter reading of 25000 hours, the high hours should offer insight into the component life cycle. It’s possible that you’ll need to repair some worn parts after buying the equipment.
Finally, check to see whether the vendor has tampered with, fixed, or inaccurately read the hour meter. Particularly if the consumer lacks technical understanding, it could be challenging to identify any strange changes in the hour meter. You’ll want a machine expert’s assistance. When asked, workshop engineers from BAS Machinery send hourly meter reports on secondhand equipment to equipment buyers.
  1. Noise Evaluation In this particular section of the machinery inspection, you should keep an eye out for any potential symptoms that you could have missed during the exterior check of the apparatus.
Watch out for any of the following when the machine is switched on and operating:
An issue with the mechanism may be indicated by the engine’s coughing noises. Squeaking noises during basic operations might be an indication of loose connections, worn-out components, or missing fasteners. Unusual noises might be a sign that the connections on the heavy machinery require lubrication. A Caterpillar D6T XL Bulldozer is examined in a video by BAS Machinery. When driving, listen for the normal engine noise devoid of any strange noises.
  1. Inspection of the Engine and Hydraulics The hydraulic system and engine are the two most crucial parts of every piece of equipment. On any hydraulic cylinders, look for visual signs of fluid leaks, breaks, scratches, or dents. Make sure that all of the hoses are properly coupled and sealed. Additionally, keep an eye out in the engine and engine panel for apparent signs of leaks, loose belts, and filthy filters.

2023.05.30 16:08 WolfLeviathan9000 Why am I so insecure about my tastes / what I enjoy? (20M)

(Firstly, I just want to apologize for this post being a bit long, I'm just trying to express each and every one of my thoughts on this issue of mine in as thorough of a manner as possible. Also, I should state that although this is an issue that really does deeply impact my mental health, the primary reason I feel like this sub is the best place to post this is due to the fact that every other place I thought of to post it (advice, vent, etc.) seem to have either clear rules that my post breaks, or rules that are worded just vaguely enough for me to not be sure.)
When I hear even the smallest, slightest criticism towards something I enjoy, I immediately feel like it’s the absolute worst thing ever and that I’m an idiot and there’s something wrong with me for enjoying it. For instance, one of my favorite games of all time is Half-Life 2. That game got AMAZING critical reception and countless awards. Some people, however, claim that it doesn’t hold up today and is overrated. When I say some people, I mean what is probably about 1 in every 50 people who have played it. But to ME, it feels like 49,999 in every 50,000.
Seriously, even the smallest criticisms towards the things I enjoy are enough to make me feel so bad about my enjoyment of them that I suddenly don’t want to play/watch/listen to/whatever that particular thing for like 2 weeks straight. Even if it’s a poor criticism that doesn’t make sense, it STILL makes me feel insecure. Hell, a couple years ago, I was in a discord call, playing a game with a friend of mine, and a few of his discord friends who I didn’t even know the NAMES of, and have never even heard of since. They were basically complete strangers to me. Yet, one of them stated that an ITEM from a game I like had a stupid name, and that TINY LITTLE COMMENT was enough to make me feel slightly upset. Let me restate that for you: Someone who was basically a complete stranger to me said that an ITEM from a game that I like had a stupid name, and that was enough to make me feel upset. I’m dead serious, my problem is that bad.
Sometimes it doesn't even have to be an actual criticism to get under my skin. Someone could just say something as simple as "I dislike [insert thing I like here]" And it's enough to make me think "Oh god, do they dislike it because they're smarter than me and are able to analyze it better than me, and realize why that particular thing is actually garbage???"
It also really doesn’t help that it feels as though a very large majority of the time, when I was growing up, whenever I developed an interest in a new “thing”, it was always through experiencing whatever is usually almost universally agreed upon by the fanbase to be the worst entry or version of whatever that thing is. For example, growing up, I got into the Transformers franchise through the live action Michael Bay movies, which seem to be constantly trashed by movie critics and fans alike, and I also got into Indiana Jones through Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which the entire fanbase seems to agree is the absolute worst movie in the series. I’m a big fan of horror, because when I was very young, I used to watch lots of let’s plays of shitty early 2010s indie horror games and listen to tons of creepypasta narrations on YouTube. To this day, I still go back and watch Markiplier’s old horror game let’s plays from time to time, and unironically enjoy creepypastas and other internet horror stories. However, as I previously stated, a lot of those games were really terrible looking back, and creepypastas and other internet urban legends are so heavily criticized and trashed that even the very word “creepypasta” seems to have negative connotations tied to it. And that makes me feel bad for enjoying them.
I really haven’t seen that many movies in my life, but I find that I end up enjoying probably about 9 out of every 10 movies I see. In fact, one of my favorite “once in a while” special activities that I enjoy doing with friends and/or family is going to the movie theater. I like the atmosphere of the lobby, the food, the smells, the lights, the overall “aesthetic”, and even things as simple as getting real comfortable in my seat and watching the previews. But despite all this, I really can’t say I like movies as a whole that much, and I rarely find myself interested in watching new movies, at the theater (Hell, I’d even argue that I’m more excited for the theater itself than the actual movie) OR at home. Why? Like I’ve said before, I find myself coming out of almost every single movie, out of the few that I have seen in my life, thinking “That was pretty good! I enjoyed that a lot!” But then when I get home, I scroll the internet and start seeing reviews for the very same movie I watched, and it feels like 99.999% of the time, EVERYONE is shitting on it. It makes me feel like there’s something wrong with me for enjoying it, and it makes me feel bad. It makes me want to just stop watching movies altogether. So this whole problem is actually causing me to deprive myself of new, fun experiences and discovering new areas of my own happiness. Not just in movies,They just work best for an example in this context, but in everything. This problem also partially makes me want to actually avoid thinking critically about why I enjoy certain things, because I’m afraid of slowly realizing that the things I enjoy, upon closer inspection, are terrible and I’m a moron for enjoying them.
Sometimes I try to think to myself “Okay, maybe the things I enjoy really are “objectively bad”. But even if they are, so what? Is there really a problem with having “bad taste?” And that’s when I start coming across these internet armchair psychologists who try to tell me that the things you enjoy somehow tie into and reflect on things like your inner psychology, your values, your background and upbringing, etc. and therefore if you have bad taste, there’s something wrong with you, you’re a bad person, and you’re everything that’s wrong with society. (I’m paraphrasing, but you get my point) There was a franchise of games I used to love, and my favorite game in that franchise happened to be the one that half of the fanbase seemed to absolutely hate. I read a comment on that particular game’s subreddit, explaining why they enjoyed the “worst” game in that franchise. Some guy replied to him, basically telling him that the original commenter was satisfied with less, and therefore he was the reason that these big game companies are able to keep getting away producing terrible low-quality broken games (or something like that. Again, paraphrasing.) And I fear that he’s right. Our enjoyment of that game is inherently a bad thing and we should feel bad about it.
I know trolling assholes on the internet are the last people you want to listen to when it comes to these sorts of things, but for some reason, I still can’t help but worry that deep down they’re actually right, and everything I enjoy really is terrible, I have terrible taste, there’s something wrong with me, I’m a bad person, and I should feel bad about it. I’ve had these insecurities all my life, but it wasn’t until the last few years that I’ve actually realized it due to the fact that it was worsening, and it wasn’t until the last few months that I got the idea to attempt to reach out to anyone in order to figure out why I have this problem and how I can stop it.
Sometimes, I read and hear criticisms towards things I like that are worded in a very harsh, hostile, angry manner, and THOSE ones instead make me react with irrational anger. Sometimes those types of criticisms make me feel so upset that I start imagining myself lashing out in anger towards those critics by taking a blunt object and hitting them with it. I don’t think it takes a genius to figure out why that’s a problem. Although I think this particular aspect of my problem ties into another separate issue I have, which I might talk about another time.

2023.05.30 10:01 Bazinga8000 My personal opinions of the game (fairly long)

I just finished harvestella a few days ago (as in the main story), and i just wanted to tell you my general thoughts of the game.
In general, im not gonna lie, i was a bit disappointed.
Dont get me wrong, i definitely had a good time playing it. For example, in comparison to other reviews/critiques i have seen of the game, i really did enjoy the combat. Its simple in a way that its quite charming, and being able to choose between many jobs just made it quite fun. Doing the "dungeon invasions" were honestly my personal part of the game. The sound track is also absolutely amazing, i had no idea that Go Shiina was on it before playing it, so it was a nice surprise for sure. And the visuals are also quite nice, it has a quite good overall aesthetic and the character art when dialogues happen are just *chef´s kiss*.
Now, for what i got disappointed on. I dont exactly like the writing in this game. I know a lot of people enjoy it, but it really didnt work for me personally. It was just too ambitious. Because honestly, the themes it tackles in the last couple of chapters are honestly super interesting and quite unique. Its just that in mid of the very interesting themes, it doesnt really "stich" the story points very well, and felt like a bit of a bumpy road for me. For example, a lot of the characters you meet, and even play with as party members, know a lot more of the world than you do, but they will only tell you super important information, when the story wants them to tell you, which tends to be 20 to 30 hours later than when they could have probably have told you already (main examples of this are dianthus and aria). Similar to this issue i have, there is smaller cases of this where characters say they have this really important thing they need to tell you about BUT they should talk about it in next main room of a "dungeon" so it doesnt "break your mind". This one aint as much of the problem as my first issue because it relates to how the gameplay fundamentaly works, but its honestly quite funny how multiple times i went "oh man, is this where they say that I cant hear this now because it will be too much for me, so we should go to the next room?", and they actually say it lol.
I would also really appreciate some more character interactions overall, especially from the party members. I dont love or hate any of the characters in the game, they are fine for the most part, if a bit generic, but i think what would really make me enjoy them much more would just to see them interact more and have more overall chemistry as they hardly talk to each other. The only time they really felt like a true team was when they were fixing the machines (in chapter 5 or 6?) and that was actually one of my favourite moments from the game.
There also some fairly convenient plot points, the biggest one for me being the fact that (last chapter) Stella Nursery not being on dianthus and the others database despite them having analysed the planet for centuries.
In terms of side quests i would say they were also pretty inconsistent, mostly because most of them you really just dont have much time to really care about the characters you are trying to help with and most of them is just go here, go there, fight a couple a monster once, and go there and here again. In terms of actual plot, i for example actually quite enjoyed "you shall not pass", because it was honestly quite simple and just very funny because of how dumb it was lol (on purpose obviously), while one i definitelly didnt like at all was "a lie turned truth", as that one the>! girl just literally tries to kill you for literally no apparent reason besides "eheh im evil", and then she gets 0 punishment at all, because she actually really likes the old man she is with!<. Just very generic and just made very forced tension.
I will say that one funny thing that i accidently was doing and only realized mid way through the game was that i technically finished the game with a "no crops bought challenge" lol. Only because i was trying to do all of the side quests and they give you so much in terms of rewards i always had the money and ingredients for food i needed for the entire main storyline lmao.
Again, i do like this game, there was just a lot i thought it could have been better utilized or just had more time in the oven in terms of plot. I would definitely play the sequel if it comes out, i could definitely see it fixing a lot of my issues and making for a great game.

2023.05.30 09:32 Raven-Animations New here and want some suggestions and answers

So first off allow me to introduce myself, I am Raven and I am brand new to paintball. I have watched several videos on youtube and looked at a few guns and decided to join in myself. Now I have read your FAQ and New to paintball links so none of my questions really revolve around what's covered in those. The first thing I would like to cover is guns, I have been looking at a few and I found the DYE DAM, I'm clearly not familiar with said gun but I did read up on it and watch a couple of reviews and overview videos on it. I was wondering if the DAM would be a good marker to get for the long run, if not I would like a few suggestion markers. Primarily I am looking for something with mid to long range semi auto is a must and I would also really appreciate having full and / or burst as well. I do want something mag fed partly for the aesthetic but also just for how it would feel, I am open to hoppers as well just prefer mag fed. I would also rather it be a non pistol design. I would also like to ask about gear, such as what are good brands for masks or helmets, what are some more commonly enjoyed paint brands, and where I can get a proper cleaning kit for the marker. I am less worried about cleaning myself as I plan to just have some paint gear that I wont care about gettin covered. I will be playing primarily woodsball out in well- the woods. We likely wont have any structures so itll be all natural, thank you all for your time and anything helps.

2023.05.30 09:09 Nameless49 Prepare your storage... Fontaine is coming.

With Fontaine just around the corner, players, especially mobile players, should start planning for the Fontaine update. It's been pretty much confirmed that we'll be able to explore underwater with the upcoming diving mechanics.
From the teaser, we saw underwater biomes teeming with life and detail. Couple that with Fontaine's French inspiration and supposed steampunk aesthetics, in addition to most likely an underground canal system like in Paris, and rumors about heavy pollution, we can expect this to be the biggest version update by far. Also please let there be QoL improvements we've been asking for years.
I've seen many post here before stating they were forced quit Genshin, at least on mobile, because of it's growing file size. Keep in mind we still have like 2 or 3 regions coming after Fontaine and one can only imagine it's going to be much bigger than previous release.

2023.05.30 09:01 Chench3 [REQUEST][STEAM] Volcanoids - Steam Gift card. I want to be a Drill Bro.

Hello from Mexico! This is my first time posting here, and I want to talk to you about Volcanoids.
I have recently while watching some Youtube reviews discovered this fun-looking game, and after watching some gameplay videos I'm confident this would be something I would really love to play. I am a sucker for open world survival crafting games, and I've sunk enough hours into games like Subnautica and Valheim to know how these games suck you in and eventually make you forget the outside world. I love the feeling of having to scrounge at first, and that sense of accomplishment when you manage to build THAT weapon, or THAT mobile base, like in Subnautica when I finally managed to build the Cyclops in Survival mode after a grueling 20-something hours of fighting off Stalkers to get their teeth, or finally managing to put the finishing touches on the smithing room in Skyrim.
I also love the steampunk aesthetic of the game, and I've been a sucker for it since playing Rise of Legends a long time ago, with the Vinci quickly becoming my favorite faction. I've seen few games that manage to capture that feeling of ramshackle refinement and Volcanoids' graphics just seem to do it for me. I especially like the part where you fight the clunky-looking robots which remind me of the Big Daddies from Bioshock.
I would really like to play this game, but I was laid off a couple of months ago and I am running through my savings faster than I'd like just on the basics. The hunt for a new job just seems endless and it hurts that I can't just buy it. I am asking for a gift card because the game is almost twice its price in other currencies, but I don't know if there is an option to have the value of the game sent in a gift card. Volcanoids is more or less $11 USD in my currency, but I have seen it almost at $20 in the US store.
If you read my brief text, thank you, and I wish you a nice day.

2023.05.30 04:41 -Specific_Cookie- Village Ice Cream

Village Ice Cream
Address: 4019 University Ave NW, Calgary, AB T3B 6K3
Price: Single Scoop $6 + $1 (cone)
We received excellent service at this small shop located smack in the middle of the new University district.

Village Ice Cream is a local Calgary chain that specializes in small batch in house made ice creams (and waffle cones) that appear to mostly be conventional flavors but in the fine print you'll find little quirks that will appease hipsters and connoisseurs alike, their strawberry for instance has balsamic vinegar!
Quality over quantity with this modern boutique ice cream parlor with a fairly limited menu of ten regular flavors, and few more to cater to individuals with dietary restriction and of course a couple seasonal options that rotate.
https://preview.redd.it/yr8febzybx2b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=39aca53b7aab2489f056ac7d0454c63a6d005aac
There is a sense of trend with this shops aesthetic with big block letters, minimalist logo design and the vertically hung stained wood paneling on the walls paired with a gigantic monstera growing behind their payment area.
https://preview.redd.it/p04e7qyybx2b1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05a0446a1625a66d60cddc4b4b76d8177bd5a0e7
The ice cream quality was fantastic as it really showed the care that can only be achieved with small batch ice cream, rich, creamy and full of flavor! I had earl grey on this visit and it literally decorated my taste buds!
The cones were home made and while the flavor was wonderful this is the place where Village Ice cream could grow, the cones dripped out the bottom (enough that I've made a note) and also the bottom half of the cone starts to get way too thick and crunchy.
All in all I would recommend this trendy shop to anyone looking for good cone and good service

2023.05.30 04:14 prettypurplepolishes Anyone here transition from pre-Pharm to pre-dental? How possible is it to add to and revamp my application before I graduate in 2025? I’m overwhelmed and need advice.

I’m a Bioprocessing Science major and will be graduating in 2025 instead of 2024 due to transferring schools this past year. I previously was very set on attending pharmacy school with the goal of pursuing a career in industry and working for a pharmaceutical company on the drug regulation side of things. I have about a year and a half of experience as a pharmacy tech / front store associate from during Covid and I also have my nail tech license and have been doing nails on the side while in school for multiple years now. The projected job market for pharmacists as well as the notoriously horrible work life balance in clinical pharmacy is terrifying to me, and I feel that I have decent grades (3.6 overall so far, not sure about science gpa). I feel like I could relate the hand dexterity and role that nail techs play in enhancing clients’ aesthetic features to increase their confidence levels to aspects of dentistry. My issue is that my entire resume, undergrad research on antibiotic resistance and even my internship experience has been tailored to biotech and pharma. I would like to shadow a few dentists to see if I feel I could handle the social aspect of dentistry (I found working retail pharmacy to be very draining and worry I’ll be too shy to work in dentistry). However I’ve visited a couple dentists in my area with my resume and asked about shadowing and have been told “no”. I’m worried that dental schools will see me taking an extra year in undergrad plus pivoting from pre-Pharm to pre-dental as a red flag.

After 3 years of hunting, I finally acquired a tissart loom.
Ever since my deep dive on tapestry and reading Rebecca Mezoff’s blog post about tapestry looms I have LUSTED for this bad boy. I wanted a large format high warp with all the bells and whistles and I did not want to spend $6000+ on a gobelin loom because aesthetically speaking, it’s not cute.
Been hunting for a tissart since 2020, periodical checking Facebook market place hoping for one locally. February 2023 I found a lady in my state selling her 60” probably circa 1970s for around $300. I couldn’t believe it. A little worse for wear since she used to take it to ren? fairs for demos, so it’s been taken apart many times and seen a lot of miles. Has a nice rust patina on it I’ve been slowly working off but it has all it parts and works. Perfect.
Took it apart in the trailer my mother picked it up in, dragged it piece by piece by myself into my second floor apartment and reassembled it by myself which was not easy as it’s really heavy and tall. I told my non weaving related grad school class about my acquisition the next day and no one was impressed. Their loss.
And then it sat for a couple of months dominating the living room of my 400sqft apartment staring at me going “good job, you put me together but I’m naked! When are you going to dress me?” After much bumbling about, I figured out “oh I can direct warp. I don’t need to struggle to put yards and yards of warp on. 6 feet of warp is already a large project for tapestry.”, dressing became so stinking easy.
And I have to say I’m thrilled, it’s so nice. Beefy frame holds tension so well I’m scared I might snap a warp thread. Having a beater that maintain sett is lovely as even sett is a huge struggle for me. Having shafts is quick and breezy. Standing and staring mostly ahead at the loom is lovely for my neck/back. For the past two years I was feeling frustrated at my ashford tapestry loom and Harrisville portable 4 shaft. I worried that maybe I didn’t have the patience to continue making tapestry. This feels hopeful. I cant wait to see what I make going forward. It seems worth the agony I felt for it for years.
