2023.05.31 04:56 Tattooed_Gemini910 39 [M4F] NC / EAST COAST connection 🤘

39 years old 5’10", height and weight proportionate current dad bod in process of getting back on shape, heavily tattooed, long blonde hair which I call my lions mane when it’s not pulled back neat and presentable, blue grey eyes, free thinking realist seeking an organic connection. Typical attire is jeans and black shirt or button up with a pair of boots. I also rock an alternative /rocker vibe with backwards hat and t-shirts with jeans or shorts. Pictures in profile.
Genuine person who is career oriented (IT – 19 years and counting) with a house & car, old dog (Cane Corso) who is just looking to make connections. When I’m not working, I am busy working on my 1942 home; current project I just finished up replacing all boards on my 2nd story deck as well as the hand rails. Now I am working on replacing all the stairs (waiting on supplies from Lowes). Next project will be doing a dry pour patio. If I’m not working on my home, I enjoy staying in to cook / grill & have a fire in the back yard. Also I enjoy watching some Netflix, Sports – I’m a Cleveland fan (born and raised) UFC, I do get down on some PS5; games currently playing Modern Warfare/ Warzone regularly but also play all genres of games….. Why do you like being in the house …..All my stuff is here!
When not shackled down to the castle I enjoy hitting the beach all day with my canopy or umbrella and putting some music on with a cooler to make it an entire day adventure. I have recently gotten back into kayaking, so I have been doing that daily before work (I work second shift) when the weather permits. I prefer a dive bar over a club or something fancy. I enjoy grabbing a drink and a meal with a good conversation, I should start a food blog because I consider myself a foodie. Occasionally I enjoy an act of spontaneity and will pack a bag and go on an adventure or go do something active in nature.
I am straight that’s my preference so please don't try to catfish me or convince me, but I also don’t judge other lifestyles or preferences. I enjoy a good conversation but steer away from religion, politics, salary and controversial viewpoints until I know you as I deem them friendship killers. I am non-religious; however, I have a strong moral compass and ethics that allow me to respect everyone equally. As a veteran I am a president supporter; NO matter who is in the office, what that means is I respect the position, but I will not always agree with policies and views that they hold on certain topics. I mention these because it is valuable information for those who may be interested, no I won’t elaborate on them more until later when that vibe is there.
I’m 39 so the only games I play is board games or PS5. I believe people can disagree and still have discussions without one’s ego getting bruised. I believe that happiness is internal and is our own personal responsibility, the ones we allow into our lives are simply there to amplify our happiness; NOT responsible for making US happy. My love languages are physical touch & quality time, but I believe they are all important in balance.
IF you are down to talk or play some PS5 shoot me a message.
  1. How will your tattoos look when your old; Cool as fuck so stop asking,
  2. Did your tattoos hurt; No, they felt like puppy kisses (of course they hurt, it’s a needle penetrating your skin 100’s a time a minute.)
  3. How many do you have: I don’t know, lost count
My song that summarizes me is Save me -Jelly Roll
Also, if you’re not willing to send pictures within a couple messages were not going to work out long term, even if it's just food or stuff around your house we live in the age of technology; use it 🤘

2023.05.31 04:54 ChosesEtranges01 Renter facing cockroaches, found ammunition, feral cats, and an unclean guest home

Hi friends! This is my first time using AirBnb and my expectations were far from met. To give some background, I am interning at a major company this summer post-graduating from college. I found this AirBnb for a fair price and was very affordable, so I booked it 3-4 weeks in advance. I have already paid half of the amount on the AirBnb. Upon arriving, the lock where I put in a code was not there and was only showing a keyhole. It was about 5-6 minutes after the check-in time and I did not hear from my host, so I asked how I should get into the unit. The host responded right away, apologized, and told me to grab the key from the electrical box. When I came into the guest house, I noticed right away a strong, chemical cleaning scent, like a bunch of febreze. The cupboards in the kitchen was filled with food, some even open. I picked up a box of instant mashed potatoes to throw away, and the bottom opened, making it spill all over the floor. I noticed a dead cockroach near the door, but I assumed it might have gotten in when I brought my belongings in.
After moving my things in, I noticed my feet were black from dirt. Thats when I realized the floors were dirty and I had to mop them. I asked where the mop was to the host since the floors were dirty, and he told me they were in the closet and thanked me for letting him know. I have mopped them twice (and bought a new mop rag) and my feet are still coming up black the next day. In the bathroom, there were 2-3 long strands of brown hair on the wall and 3-4 tiny bugs in the shower. I also noticed all of the water comes up slightly cloudy. This makes me extremely worried about the cleanliness of the unit as a whole. I didn't get the best sleep since the bed was rock hard and made my back hurt throughout the night. This morning, I heard cats crying outside. I ignored it for a while, but upon looking outside, I have noticed 4-5 feral cats and 1 kitten, all of which hang out by my door and under my car. At one point while I was leaving, I saw two of the cats "doing the deed" by my car. I also checked the door this morning and have found it to be a really weak door that could easily be kicked down.
Today, I came across 6-7 shotgun bullets in a glass jar. I also found a living cockroach in the kitchen. I told the owner about the cockroach and he offered to come out the next day to spray and set traps. I told him that was ok and asked him about the ammunition. He said he had no idea about the ammunition and told me the cleaning lady found a 9mm under the mattress 3 months ago. I found a receipt in the jar from 1-8-22, which means it has been there for a long time. This makes me concerned for my safety.
This is my first time with AirBnb and it makes me wish I just got a hotel for my internship. I booked my reservation through July 30th, but I already want to leave. I have been extremely polite with the host up to this point, and made it clear to them I want to treat their guest home like my home and keep it clean, but I am very uncomfortable with the situation at hand. Any advice, comments, or feedback would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thank you for listening to my rant. :)

2023.05.31 04:48 lionthunder89 An Unlimited Love Retrospective, part 9: These Are The Ways

Part 1 (Black Summer) with song tiers explained at the bottom
Part 2 (Here Ever After)
Part 3 (Aquatic Mouth Dance)
Part 4 (Not The One)
Part 5 (Poster Child)
Part 6 (The Great Apes)
Part 7 (It's Only Natural)
Part 8 (She's A Lover)
In the very middle of the album, and the winning song streak, is These Are The Ways, and it’s a great pivoting song. Like The Great Apes, this song swings from chill to heavy, but unlike that song the two moods seem to clash a bit more, and it feels by design. The slower parts have a nice gentle groove to them, and are fun to sway back and forth to. I would have preferred it if they had been a bit longer, or perhaps had another refrain. Then the chorus brings a very basic, old school-sounding rock riff that sounds like it could have been created by anyone from The Who to Green Day. It’s just hard, and it just rocks, and it just works. Chad makes sure to make the final bars as thunderous as possible to bring the heart of the album to an exhilarating close. This is definitely meant to be the loudest part of the album, the pinnacle of the sound in the middle of the night.
A note on the chorus lyrics: people seem particularly hung up on the chorus of this song. On one hand, I can get that they're a bit overly simplistic, but I see that a choice by Anthony to keep the focus on the music; that riff and the swells are what really makes the song. On the other hand, people really hate the use of the word ā€˜smells’. Anthony’s been singing about ā€˜smells’ since forever, and on some of the best-regarded songs on RHCP’s catalog, so I dunno why this one instance gets so much attention. I love it because it’s silly and stupid; it's what RHCP are supposed to be, and have been since the beginning.
Favorite Verse Lyric: ā€œLost in a dream/Please step down from your bully-machineā€
Mental Music Video: Pretty much the same as the real one, only it starts off with the four of them strolling down an LA street together, and the cops appear behind them without any context to give chase to all of them through the neighborhoods.
Rating: A-Tier

2023.05.31 04:44 HayashiAkira_ch For my father

Hey dad.
You died almost two years ago and this is the first time I’m actually saying (typing?) words that are directed at and meant for you since then. The last time we talked, I was your new employee in the family business, and I was asking if we worked on a specific brand of appliances I hadn’t heard of. Two hours later, Maddie called to tell me you had collapsed in the shower on vacation. An hour after that, my grandparents told me that you were gone.
I have not cried for you. I don’t think you would have wanted me to- you hated seeing me cry, not because it showed I was hurt, but because boys shouldn’t cry. I remember as a kid of just 11, sparring at judo one night, I got punched and my nose bled. I didn’t cry, and you told me you were proud of me and took me to my favorite fast food restaurant after. Strangely though, I haven’t held back tears either. There simply aren’t any for me to cry.
The truth is that while I felt sad, yes, I didn’t feel the level of grief others did. You and I were friendly, but we weren’t close. These days when I think of our relationship, I don’t deny that you loved me- you were my father, and I am your son. The bond of family was there, and something resembling the love that comes from that existed. However, the more I think about it, the more I feel that while you loved me, you didn’t particularly like me.
I didn’t succeed the way other kids did. I had no interest in sports, no real interest in the ā€œnormalā€ things that kids my age did. An adult diagnosis of being on the autism spectrum made me realize that you probably knew that I wouldn’t think and behave like other children. Making sense of my memories I realize how hard you tried to ā€œfixā€ me. Forcibly putting me into athletics (though only those that passed your approval), denying me a spot in specialized programs at school for kids with learning disabilities or difficulties socializing, replacing that instead with talks about what I was supposed to be as the sole male child in the family. I think you saw a happier me on the horizon if I could just ā€œget itā€ the way you and many others did.
I never did ā€œget itā€ though. By middle school you gave up, and your attention turned to my overachieving little sister. That hurt our bond as siblings quite a bit and we fought, loudly and often. I am glad to say now that my relationship with my sisters is closer than any other in my life and I consider someone who was an enemy to me to now be my greatest friend.
There was a single bond we shared growing up- music. You told me that even after 40 years of being in the appliance business, you still considered yourself a musician before any other profession. My fondest childhood memories with you are the trips we’d take to concerts. I’d always make a mixtape, usually taken with a lukewarm reception, and you’d regale me with stories of the days of Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. We’d go to the show and on the way home, we’d give our thoughts as you would teach me about the science behind sound mixing and making live performances possible.
I taught myself every instrument I could get my hands on. I learned every old prog rock song I could. I diversified my music taste beyond what you’d ever thought someone could. I did genuinely love all of it- but part of me thinks I did it because music was the one lonely connection you and I had.
Your anger would make even that difficult. Though you only laid your hands on me once, a 30 minute stretch of a night that it took a year of therapy to process, the feeling of walking on eggshells never left. And despite this, I tried ever so hard to earn your approval, and failed every step of the way.
My stint in factory work ended in me getting laid off.
My attempt at a military career ended with a ten day vacation in the psych ward (an admittedly lovely place, to my surprise).
I was never good with money (but then again, neither were you).
I was never particularly strong, popular, and never did reach that point of normal.
But I tried and tried to get you to look my way, even going so far as to enter the family business. Then three months later, you were gone, and the truth about your life came out.
The affairs, drugs, hidden caches of money meant to go to your mistress. You purchasing an entire home for a woman your daughter’s age that you started sleeping with when she was barely past 18. All the times you flew into a wild rage at even the slightest hint my mom had an unfaithful thought, and yet you were out lavishing other women with gifts. Our family went bankrupt and nearly lost everything, and the entire time you had $50,000 in cash hidden in a box in our garage with a deposit slip with that woman’s name on it.
You grew up with a man just as unfaithful, who would sleep with a younger woman and come home to beat his wife and kids all in one day. You hated him, and yet you embodied so much of what made him wretched.
Was the family you had never enough? You had a wife that looked 15 years younger than her age. You had kids who would stress themselves out to the point of breaking down to make sure you were happy at home. You had one of the most successful businesses in your industry. Did none of it make you happy?
The truth now is that I know I couldn’t earn your approval. I never would have. No career, no musical skill, no amount of money could ever had made you happy to have me as a son.
I look at myself now and see, deep under the surface, qualities of you. We look just alike, our bodies identical. I feel that rage you felt too- the frustration with everything happening, knowing your life didn’t go the way you wanted it to. I make remarks that come across more sharply than I intend sometimes. I raise my voice, I curse at traffic, I tap my fingers on the surface of tables and the steering wheel like I’m playing the drums. All habits I learned from you. And I still walk on eggshells today so that those qualities stay buried deep down in me and never come out. I still tiptoe around conversations because I’m afraid you’ll come alive again through the words I say and the acts I commit.
I am tired of trying to earn the approval of a cheater who I buried two years ago. I am tired of having conversations in my head where our talks aren’t tense and awkward, like we barely know each other.
I do not need your approval anymore. I never did. I just want to be happy, and the more of you I embody, the harder that seems to be.
I don’t hate you, and I never will. But I am not going to beat myself to death for a man who wouldn’t notice until the moment I fell over dead from it.
I hope wherever you are, it can make you better, and that one day you will return to this world to live the life you desperately wanted to live.
Goodbye. -Your son

Chess players' positions in intransitive (ā€œrock-paper-scissorsā€) relations
Perhaps it is funny. One can build a circle of positions of White and Black in intransitive (ā€œrock-paper-scissorsā€) relations:
- position A of White is preferable (it should be chosen if choice is possible) to position B of Black;
- position B of Black is preferable to position C of White;
- position C of White is preferable to position D of Black, and
- position D of Black is preferable to position A of White.

Also it is possible in checkers and game of Go.

2023.05.31 04:34 Sullengar The Magi's Society - By Sullengar - Chapter 19: The Rust

Mevi was mostly conscious when Kalesi had saved her. The writhing pain was like hot irons under her skin that tried to infect and travel within her blood vessels. Yet as Mevi closed her eyes, in the safety of her mentor’s arms, she felt the light around her disappear and with it a dull cold air enter. The cold was almost soothing against her burning skin. She tried to open her eyes, only to be met with a dark expanse and rushing air as the two traveled at a marvelous speed downwards. After an agonizing amount of time, the fast movements stopped, and the cold chill permeated around her.
The worst of the pain dissipated quickly, morphing from an agonizing fire into a sharp throbbing. Mevi could feel her skin shifting under her clothes, and she ripped at the fabric. Invisible hands seemed to sense her discomfort and helped remove the robes. Those invisible hands, presumed to be Kalesi, attempted to pull free the gloves to no avail. Mevi settled against a cold metal, noticing only now that she was laying down. It was flat and chilled beneath her. Grime and dust seemed to cover it, but the stimulation of the filth was a preferable distraction.
Soon the pain disappeared fully, or at least comparably so. A dull ache throbbed under Mevi’s skin if she moved too suddenly. As her senses became fully her own again, she realized the darkness around her was thick and real. She didn’t like the dark, and wished it away so she could find Kalesi. She wanted the one stable figure in her life so far, the one person that seemed to try to protect her in this short span of time. She wished for light, but remembered the resulting pain from her previous explosion. Her mind almost naturally attuned a dim glow that slowly started to fill the darkness with a warm orange hue.
Mevi and Kalesi were revealed as the slow light crept around corners and up walls. Mevi felt a quiet complaint from her body, but it dissipated as she lowered the strength of the light slightly. Kalesi looked concerned, but only spared a few glances at her pupil. As the light fully illuminated the two, Kalesi moved to the only entrance to their lopsided hideout. She began pulling at weak metal and loose frame, closing a decrepit door to block the outside. Mevi noticed a shrill wind blowing outside that echoed against the metal husk they had made camp in.
Kalesi confirmed the security of the door, and moved to Mevi’s side. Mevi took the chance to glance at her arms. There were dark veins sprawling from her wrists and chest, where her Maige conduits rested against her skin. Before their eyes the dark veins were retreating to their beginning, and most of the bubbling welts had completely disappeared. Mevi was recovering surprisingly quickly, but she didn’t know why that was surprising. Kalesi bent down to inspect her young ward’s skin, ā€œWhat happened? Do you know?ā€
Mevi was unsure, ā€œI activated the Maige… I summoned a light in my panic and excitement. It was too strong. I should have tempered it like I am doing now, but I was almost… consumed, by the moment. It was strange.ā€
ā€œYou are at least healing. We escaped the bandits, and both of us are safe. So that is all that matters right now.ā€
Mevi was curious about her new surroundings, ā€œWhere are we Kalesi? It is almost impossibly dark here.ā€
Kalesi sighed, ā€œWe are in ā€˜The Depths’, or at least that is what I have heard it called. It is an accurate description, if anything.ā€ Mevi’s confused look was an adequate response, Kalesi unconsciously sighed thinking about the situation they were in. ā€œThere is a strange, and incredibly dense, layer of… well everything. The Rust, it is an ancient infection of the body, metal, stone, and anything else it touches. It can be dealt with using thorough, and civilized, cleaning methods. But here, they haven’t the tools or means. The Rust eats away at material, then begins to spore like a fungus. Those spores make up the dust, rust, and debris that billow like wind. I have heard it begins to become as thick as water far enough down.ā€
Mevi was fascinated, and waited for Kalesi to continue explaining. Yet Kalesi stopped and entered a pained contemplation. Turning around, to keep her face towards the door, Kalesi grimly said ā€œThis Rust can turn any and all into simple air. It infects a host like a parasite and makes them deranged. Before they are completely eaten away. Then they become one with the infection that claimed them.ā€ Kalesi sat down on a slanted pillar that once stood by the door. The two sat in silence, save for the shrieking wind battering the metal hull of the fallen tower.
After a while of waiting, and silent thoughts, Mevi’s affliction subsided into almost nothing. The black veins receded into nothing, and few hints were shown that they were ever there. Mevi’s skin was as perfect as it is after a fresh wash, save for the growing layer of grime and dust. Kalesi helped Mevi back into her robes, as the chill was beginning to set in. Mevi was wondering what their next step was, and if Kalesi’s expressions were translated correctly she was planning that very thing. Kalesi eventually turned to Mevi, ā€œI think I will let you make our next decision. Despite my initial concern, the ambush left us mostly unscathed. Your ability to recover was faster than I could ever have assumed, or maybe it looked worse than it was.ā€
Mevi chuckled grimly, ā€œIt was quite painful in the moment, but I am fine now I think.ā€
ā€œThen… Our choices are to continue this Barge-cursed mission, or begin our escape. Both are dangerous, for various reasonsā€¦ā€
A thought plaguing Mevi finally won its way out, ā€œWould we be helping people with our mission?ā€
Kalesi smiled at her pupil’s undaunted innocence, ā€œYes, I think. From what I was provided, we need to head towards known population centers. We would gather who we can find, and attempt to evacuate them outside of the Rust’s influence. We shouldn’t have run into any bandits or scavengers, but that is something to report later.ā€
Mevi thought for a moment, but her mind was mostly recalling the strange exteriors of those ā€˜bandits’, ā€œI think I would like to continue. This is my first mission, and if we are sent to help people I don’t want to abandon them.ā€
Kalesi’s smile widened a bit, she tousled her pupil’s hair playfully, ā€œGood choice. If we weren’t sent to help people we would already be returning to the nearest uninfected edge.ā€
The two were in agreement, as much good as that did in the situation. After resting for a few more minutes, Kalesi scooped up her pupil once again, and they escaped their metallic cover into a sharp breeze. Kalesi looked down to her pupil, and then at the light emanating from her gemstones. Picking up on her mentor’s thought, Mevi silenced her light, and in the shroud of darkness Kalesi traversed the abyss.
From Mevi’s perspective, within Kalesi’s arms, she could see very little. As they suddenly soared then quickly landed, Mevi could see only the briefest impression of ground beneath them. Then they would soar back into the air again, apparently jumping from ledge to ledge. Kalesi’s vision seemed to pierce the darkness in a way Mevi’s couldn’t. Yet as they rose, small pins of light shone above their head like stars. The small stars grew steadily in size after every new leap into the abyssal space. As the light grew, their sources began to move and shift. The most potent light from above stabbed through the shroud laid out by the ambient material created by this strange ā€˜Rust’. As they grew higher and higher in altitude the shifting storm of debris overhead eventually softened to allow some small amount of light.
Almost suddenly, from the perspective of Kalesi’s powerful leaps, the light flooded back into full view. One ledge there was darkness, with thousands of small pricks of light peeking through the blanket of fugitive dust. Then suddenly, after they landed on the newest ledge, their full view was coated with grimy light again. The swirling clouds allowed the shining ambient light to enter the world once again. Kalesi stopped for a moment, and motioned for Mevi to look down. Below them, only one or two meters, was the thick darkness that created an impassable shield to block light. The winds below were slow and sluggish compared to the virulent storm above. Yet even the above storm held no sway or influence over Kalesi’s strong movements.
The two had evaded the darkness that seemed so permanent just moments before. With their newfound vision the pair began soaring from one ledge to another again. Mevi could now properly see the outline and description of their targets. The massive pipework twisted and spiraled in impossible directions. In every facet of her vision, Mevi saw nothing but rusted metal or twisting pipework. The amalgamation of construction around them made it difficult to discern how far any given target could be, and the swirling gusts of material shadowed any further investigation. Yet while Mevi marveled at the strangeness, and density, of their surroundings Kalesi seemed to know exactly where and how to travel. Despite the intercorse of metal and stone that persisted its confusion, the travel across and up continued after the brief rest for awe.
After several leaps upward, traveling at least one hundred meters after exiting the darkness, the density of construction lapsed. Loosened, and suddenly extremely large, the platforms Kalesi traveled were easier to discern between near and far. The time they spent climbing upwards was twice, if not more, as long as their adventure downward. When Kalesi eventually found a large pipe-road she was satisfied with, and put Mevi on her own feet again, the winds settled to a slow breeze.
Around them was, once again, the vast expanse of metal and stone that descended to unknown depths. The platform chosen to be their path was much wider than the one they were dropped off at. Many meters across, it was more similar to the large winding roads within the city than any type of plumbing. The material transported within such a large construct could only be imagined.
After Mevi had recovered her barings, and was finished exploring the vastness around them, Kalesi readied herself to move. Mevi hadn’t initially noticed, but Kalesi had stopped as if to rest briefly once Mevi was released to the ground. Mevi was concerned, but was waved off quietly. ā€œDon’t worry. I am fine.ā€ replied Kalesi, as if anticipating her questioning pupil.
Mevi was still concerned, she hadn’t ever seen Kalesi winded or truely tired, ā€œWe can take a longer rest if you would like. You are the only one who knows where we are going after all.ā€
Kalesi sucked in air, only to release it in a deep breath followed by coughing, ā€œI can rest while we walk. My wargear is similar to your Maige, I think. Even its more robotic enhancements can tire someone’s muscles. Turns out, ā€˜normal’ people aren’t meant to soar several hundred meters as fast as we did.ā€
Mevi couldn’t hold back a small laugh, and Kalesi chuckled herself. The clarity of oddness of the situation seemed to return in lapses to the both of them. She seemed to have fully recovered herself, and the two began walking their path once again. As they walked, Kalesi was noticeably on edge, but smiled when she caught Mevi’s glances. As if to reassure or calm her pupil, while she redoubled her own perception of potential dangers.
The duo walked for a while, and nothing seemed to change. Yet as they continued along the chosen path, the air seemed to become thicker. Subtly, and almost unnoticeable to Mevi, the air made itself denser and slower. Less wind was blowing, as if the materials in the air were actively resisting the billowing currents. What light that shined through was dimmed, where before its ambience was like a clouded day it was now like an evening shroud.
The terrain around them was still perceivable, and Kalesi hung on every motion or noise, but the dark tint continued to thicken. It eventually became stuffy, almost hard to breathe, even with their masked mouths and noses. They continued and as they did Mevi couldn’t help thinking to herself that she missed the open air in the city, despite its claustrophobic towers. Then Mevi realized something, and looked down to her gloved hands. The clear gemstone was dull and dead, deactivated by her own command. She had been trying to maintain a consistent command of suppression on it, just in case her mind wandered and it activated again. Yet now she saw a potential use.
Quietly grabbing at Kalesi’s sleeve, who turned to see what was wrong, Mevi realized she wasn’t sure if they should be talking or not. Pointing at her glove’s gemstone, and gesturing around her, only caused Kalesi to look confused. Mevi’s attempts at charades continued until Kalesi whispered softly, ā€œMevi, just speak softly. We should be safe for now.ā€
Mevi summoned her breath, and realized her charades were almost required with the lack of good oxygen, and she managed to squeak a reply, ā€œShould I try to make an air bubble?ā€ Her voice was scratchy and like a prolonged gasp, she didn’t realize how in need of good air she actually was.
Kalesi thought for a moment, ā€œYou can try, do not strain yourself. If you revert to your previous condition again I will carry you out regardless of your opinion. Our safety comes before this mission.ā€
Mevi nodded eagerly, deciding further speech might be too difficult. She focused on the idea of her gemstone, and it pulsed slightly as if to respond. Unsure how to proceed, she tried to summon the idea of pushing air away, or creating wind of some kind. After several moments of nothing happening, Mevi attempted to summon wind around her again but with less conflicted feelings. This time short gusts emanated from her palms, blowing the ground below her. Both Kalesi and Mevi were surprised by the reaction, and Mevi was invigorated to attempt an additional experiment.
Focusing on a single, solid, mental image Mevi held her arms out, palms pointed forward. She imagined a gusting wind to blow away the particles that clustered around them. As she did, the child of wind billowed from her hands, a stream of low current air pushed outward and into the heavy fog. Mevi jumped up in excitement and looked to Kalesi, who was surprised and seemed confused but impressed at the short outcome. Kalesi gave a nod as if to encourage a repeated attempt, and Mevi focused once more. Imagining a current, a bubble of wind, to blow around them and dispel the thick fog. Mevi’s instincts moved her body, she held her hands at her center as if holding some delicate orb. As she focused, air began to swirl in a small concentration around her hands. The effect began to expand as she tempered her desire to explode the effect, she maintained her precise control over her excitement and eagerness.
The bubble of wind expanded beyond her hands, to her elbows, up to her shoulders, and eventually past her knees. Then her entire body was engulfed in a whirling wind that pushed away the heavy fog around them allowing clear crisp air, Mevi began to expand the bubble further when Kalesi placed a hand on her shoulder. Mevi looked up, Kalesi had ducked into the bubble of clean air, ā€œI think this is enough. This is amazing, Mevi!ā€
Mevi blushed, she was impressed with herself as well, ā€œI think I can make it bigger, so we can both fit!ā€
Kalesi gripped her shoulder with a warm smile, ā€œI think this is wonderful, and incredibly impressive I might add. If I need a breather I will duck into your little bubble, my lungs are more durable than yours so don’t strain yourself.ā€
Mevi was still maintaining her hands at her center, and half of her focus was on maintaining the wind bubble’s form, ā€œI think I can do this for a while. I got a headache before I hurt myself with the light.ā€
Kalesi looked serious when she said, ā€œIf you feel that sense coming over you, dispel this air bubble. Or whatever you are doing, unless vitally important.ā€
Mevi nodded with an excited grin. The strange novelty of this tool was amazing to her, to be able to summon wind without any fan or propeller. No real device beyond her own hands and a strange gem. It defied what she thought possible. Regardless of her prior beliefs, she continued to maintain the bubble of pure air. Maintaining its form eventually became easier, and she could soon walk normally while maintaining its shape. As the two walked, Kalesi occasionally ducked her head in to breathe. The further they traveled into the heavy fog, the less often Kalesi stopped for breath, instead preferring to keep a constant vigil around them.
While the fog was dark, Mevi could still somehow see through the thick material. If this was in part due to her Maige, or the natural feature of the fog, she couldn't tell. As they progressed, it almost seemed like Mevi could see and hear better than Kalesi. Mevi could notice a falling rock, or hear a crumbling strut, before Kalesi’s head darted in its direction. While on a smaller level than before, Mevi’s natural senses seemed heightened again. It was because of this that Mevi could soon see writhing bodies below on a distant pipe-road. Dense with old structure and fallen architecture, it looked like a strange hanging city kept up by old struts and strong wire. Few structures were built directly into the pipes, instead being attached by wire that wrapped around the thick pipe or attached via ancient hanging struts that looked older than the reliant buildings. Mevi could see stumbling bodies on the rusted pathways, shambling forms of various sizes. All slowly moving forward along the suspended walkways and eventually onto the main pipe-road above the hanging ā€˜city’. The stumbling figures then continued along the pipe, into the darkness of beyond. But as Mevi stared in the direction they traveled, she realized it wasn’t darkness.
The forms of creatures, of people, below were traveling along the metal roads to a great wall of dark. As Mevi quickly realized, it was exactly that; a great wall or cliff stretching impossibly high up. The upper lengths were lost on her, its cliff’s edge was out of sight and well beyond the dark fog’s length. The shambling forms seemed to crawl against, and up, the great cliff. Unnaturally motivated to climb such an intimidating structure.
Mevi pointed down to the movement below them. Kalesi looked hard, and after several moments seemed to spot what Mevi saw. Her eyes strained against the dark fog. Mevi, despite being told otherwise, subtly expanded her air bubble’s reach. The upper edge was now high enough to reach Kalesi’s head at her full height. Now encompassed in the less-corrupted air, Kalesi seemed to spot the bodies gathering below them. Her face fell grim as she seemed to notice something beyond Mevi’s initial survey. Kalesi’s eyes darted back and forth, then beyond to the imposing cliff. Kalesi turned to Mevi, with some amount of sorrow in her eyes, ā€œMevi I think we should leave. I doubt there are many left to save.ā€
Mevi was confused, she could see many people down there, and several different clusters of buildings, ā€œAren’t we supposed to go down there?ā€
Kalesi seemed to debate with herself, as she sometimes does when determining what to say, ā€œThose people, they are already lost Mevi. Those people are what we call ā€˜Rusted’, they are infected. Their minds are scrambled, and can only move towards the newest movement or sound. They are herding themselves up the cliff, following each other because the one in front moves and so the one behind follows.ā€
Mevi looked down with a sadness gleaned from Kalesi. As she peered out towards the several clusters of homes, buildings, and small villages, almost every single one was filled with dark figures. Each stumbling forward with a slow, but unstoppable, progress. What even was this ā€˜Rust’, it infected people like a fungus? How could so many, who are native to the Pipes, fall victim in such a vast quantity? Mevi searched below, peering into the abyss. As she followed the trails of marching figures, she found an oddity. Far off, further past the largest cluster of population, the figures were marching the wrong way. In much smaller quantities, one or two noticing from the main horde every minute or two, a short line of figures progressed away from the cliff. Mevi was curious, and began to walk carefully up the pipe road. Kalesi followed, sighing out the depression felt in her chest.
The two traveled further along the pipe road, Mevi leading them this time. Kalesi content to allow her pupil to explore this grim reality at her own pace. Yet as Mevi continued along the winding path before her, following the trickle of shambling forms, she noticed something hopeful.
Far detached from the main cluster of population, there was a partially detached pipe coming out of the cliff that was thinner than the rest of the strange colonies. Few bridges led in its direction, and those that did had to wrap and curve around various connected pipes and cliff structure. Yet there was a small collection of buildings, built into the side of the cliff itself rather than hanging against their thin pipe. The cluster of buildings were attached near the base of the pipe that exited the cliff, bent and twisted, yet serving as a main road out and into the Pipes regardless. In the small settlement there was some kind of mounted effort for survival. Mevi could see fast moving figures, many people that were rushing in more directions than forward. At the edge of their settlement there was an attached metal strut that stretched farther than normal. Its wide frame produced a natural road, and on said road were the detached groups of Rusted. Only a few here and there, spaced out by several meters. Accumulating at the metal road’s end, and the entrance of the small settlement. There was a large wall built up, and many shambling bodies tried to rip and climb at the metal protecting the small village.
Mevi pointed out the rebellious natives as they fought desperately against the march of Rusted. Kalesi was in disbelief, she hadn’t noticed the individual Rusted nearly as clearly as her pupil apparently had. Kalesi’s hope was rekindled, and she smiled at her pupil’s discovery. Before Kalesi could congratulate Mevi, Mevi’s head began to throb. Mevi instinctively grabbed at her head and closed her eyes, the sudden wave of nausea and ache washing over her. Kalesi caught Mevi as she wobbled, ā€œMevi, if your senses are telling you to stop, do it. Do not strain yourself, I can guide us to our goal now. You’ve done well.ā€
Mevi was glad, she helped in some small way. She allowed her Maige to deactivate, and the clean air was absorbed back into the dark fog. Suddenly very little could be seen other than vague shapes and the dark towering cliff before them. But Mevi had done her part, and will focus on her own recovery so as to help her mentor again. But now they had a clear goal. Their reconnaissance finished, experiments with the Maige underway, and now to move onto evacuation. To finally help people, and to do so with her strange powers however they might manifest. Mevi dedicates herself to master these abilities, and vows no harm would come to Kalesi if her will prevails.

2023.05.31 04:32 lKamon "Value" players for fresh HUT team?

Just picked up an Xbox Series and started my HUT team, I'm about to unlock the auction house and was just wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for cheap players that I can pick up who are solid for their price.
An example of this would be Jakub Voracek a few years back, he was insanely cheap but rock solid even late in the year.
I don't have a ton coins and I'm not investing real money since it's so late in the year, just trying to build a competitive budget team.

2023.05.31 04:23 Empty_Bicycle_7368 Improving my plot

Hello market gardeners! I'm actually not a market gardener, but I take my home garden more seriously than most so I thought I'd cross post my question. I've got a few so bear with me, and I appreciate any advice you may have to offer--you never know if someone has had the same problems and did the trial and error before you! I've got a picture for reference. Not to scale because my graph paper doesn't have enough squares.
Question 1: Rocky Ground I've got 13- 4'x20' beds on the north side of my garden that I plant more intensively with crops that require more tending, with wood chip aisles. "The field" is on the south side, roughly 25'x80'. I use it for corn, large pumpkins, and potentially other lower maintenance row/field crops. I'd love to have my potatoes and beans over there BUT. It's super rocky. Like somewhere down the line it must have been a dirt road or something because it is just littered with that white 1" driveway rock. I didn't know this until I expanded to that area and the first turning of the soil exposed the mess. Corn has been fine there as long as I'm careful not to put a rock directly over a seed I'm planting but like I said, I want my potatoes and beans there too!
I'm getting a load of mushroom compost in the fall to spread over my beds for the winter and I was wondering if just adding a layer of topsoil mixed with compost and never turning the soil again would help make the field more workable over time? (And do this repeatedly over the years). It would be a large expense and a lot of work to spread it so I just wanted some thoughts on that--or I'm just out of luck unless I want to hand pick rocks until the end of time?
Question 2: Weed Eradication Bindweed had previously taken over the entire garden area before we owned the place and I foolishly believed turning the soil, mulching it, and working it would kill it but it has multiplied and the bindweed has become my nemesis. It's also glyphosate resistant and just keeps popping up everywhere no matter what I do. I was told the only way to kill it is by smothering so I was thinking of putting 6mil black plastic over the whole area from the time my crops are done in the fall until I plant again in the spring. I like to be safe and plant on the later side so it would have enough time to sprout and die I think. Do you think that'll do it? It would it be a huge waste of time since more will just keep coming after the plastic is removed?
As I mentioned above, I plan on adding a couple inches of mushroom compost to my beds in the fall as well (and whatever I decide to do about the field)--will covering the fresh compost with plastic somehow contradict each other? Should I do the plastic over the winter and save composting for the spring? I won't be tilling, I have a broadfork to loosen the soil and slightly mix in the compost.

My husband and I can’t agree on what color our cat is. I think he’s mostly brown (some black too) and my husband says he’s grey. What do you think? (We also couldn’t agree on which picture of him to post so we each took one and posted both!)

2023.05.31 03:53 TotallyHammered Would LOVE some recommentions for songs to cover (folk mostly)

Hi,
I love folk songs (Trad and American), rock, blues and soul and am now getting sort of into country. I’m really craving songs that make me feel a certain way.
I like kind of depressing songs that say something/ tell a story. Not songs that just express feelings. Also I’m loving very level/ tunes - not many jumps in tone just steady and bored/ sad sounding. No ballads please šŸ™
I don’t know anything about theory so I can’t explain myself very well but I’ll give some examples of songs that I love right now and can sing well.
The Valley of Knockanure
The West Coast Of Clare
ƉmigrĆ©
Shallow Brown
You’ll Get Yours Aplenty
Working Man
Take Me Down Easy
Angel From Montgomery
The Balled of Accounting
Highwayman
A Horse With No Name

2023.05.31 03:47 Midnight_freebird Going rate for rv rental?

I’m not a burner, never been. But I am familiar with Black rock and the dust.
I have an rv that I rent on rvshare and I’ve always had a ā€œno burning man policyā€ due to the dust and damage it will undoubtedly do. I’ve heard from others that your A/C, generator and other appliances will never work right again.
But I get SO MANY requests to take it to BM. It got me curious, what’s the going rate? For context, it’s small - 24’ but fairly new 2020 in good shape.
Anything else I should know before renting it?

2023.05.31 03:34 Physical-Energy-6982 Wedding guest attire, but not a dress?

I have three weddings coming up over the next few months and I’m already coming to terms with wearing a dress to the 2nd two since they’re both black tie dress code.
But I have one in three weeks that’s less formal, venue is botanical gardens and I’m struggling to find an outfit that’ll work with my body (extreme pear shape, larger belly that makes it hard not to look like I’m rocking maternity wear, and I’m 5 feet tall), especially because I’m extremely uncomfortable in dresses and heels.
I don’t want to just wear a suit, and I have acne scars from my teens all over my back so I’d prefer not to wear anything backless or strapless.
I’m not a fan of the jumpsuits I’m finding, I’m just not really a feminine person in terms of dress (I feel like I’m in a costume anytime I wear anything overly feminine) but at the same time I don’t want to full masc either. Any ideas I’m finding look business casual.
I don’t know if I’m asking too much of one outfit, but I figure if anyone has any guidance, this is the place to ask!
I’m also on a budget and ideally would like to spend <$100 since I have no other occasions for formal attire and I’m running out of unmarried friends so not that many weddings in the future lol.

2023.05.31 03:34 coneyisland92 Taylor Swift fans?

Taylor Swift fans?
after listening to ā€˜folklore,’ for the 100th time, i just had to create the love triangle. starting with betty
i based her on the lyrics ā€œblack lipstick, sensual politics,ā€ i know the last lyric is about the triangle, but to me, betty seems that she would be quite political and full of ideas. she may come across as tough and hard, but really, inside, she’s a sensitive romantic.
she will be available on my Gallery as soon as it is working, feel free to use her in your gameplay.
I hope you all like 🄰

2023.05.31 03:20 normac97 Dealing with that guy who ruins everything

We have a guy who comes to our playgroup once every few weeks, and he is incredibly spikey. If you only have access to one black land, he’ll chaos warp it. He’s running blood moon and proxied mana rocks when nobody else plays that kind of stuff. His decks are the kind that don’t let you play your decks and all of us hate it but we work with the guy so we have to invite him sometimes. My idea is a ā€œgroup hugā€ deck where I can hug everyone except that guy. I don’t care if I win. I want to keep him and check and boost the other people in the pod to victory. Any ideas? Does anyone have a deck list for this kind of thing? I don’t even know what commander to use so any advice is happily accepted.

2023.05.31 03:03 AntiDyatlov The Pull and the Slack

This post is about something from Hinduism you may not have heard of, which is why I think it is relevant to this sub.

I have been developing a somewhat noxious habit recently. You see, years ago, after my last acid trip led me to a psychosis that landed me in the psych ward, along with federal charges pressed against me (psychosis and airplanes really don’t mix!), I haven’t really had opportunity to experience the psychedelic state again, as it would be obviously too dangerous. But I had noticed that my brain is so… different now, that a mild dose of alcohol, enough to give me a buzz, also landed me in a properly psychedelic state.
So once a week I’ve been going to the corner pub, to get that buzz. Sometimes I mix it up by getting a bottle of wine instead.
One evening, I had drank a tall glass of wine, but it really hadn’t given me that buzz. It’s worrisome how much I wanted the buzz. It feels like I understand how someone can become an alcoholic now. Nevertheless, I went ahead and poured myself another tall glass of wine, meaning I would drink about 4/5 of the bottle on that single night.
I looked at that glass on the counter. Then I suddenly got the urge to tip its entire contents into the sink.
I paused. Where did that come from? I ruminated. I told myself how much I would enjoy drinking this, being all cozy and buzzed in my bed. Suddenly, the part of me saying that started sounding like GrĆma Wormtongue whispering in my ear. And I realized that the urge to dump the wine more specifically felt like a pull, a pull upwards inside of me, a pull towards something that shines. And the urge to drink it also felt like a pull, a pull downwards, into darkness.
I let myself be pulled upwards. I grabbed the glass and emptied it entirely. And I was rewarded! Doing this instantly gave me a buzz that lasted a good long while, one not tainted by the dullness of alcohol.
And I realized this was not the first time I had felt the upwards pull. It’s what made me start going to the gym. What made me read Plato, and the Bhagavad Gita, and RenĆ© GuĆ©non.
Nor the first time I had felt the downwards pull. It’s what made me overeat. To meander on the internet. To isolate myself instead of striving to connect with other people.
Calling these things ā€˜upwards pull’ and ā€˜downwards pull’ is gonna get old fast. Since the first one I noticed is the upwards pull, let’s just call it ā€˜the pull’. The other one is also a pull, but it could also be fairly called ā€˜the slack’, as it opposes the pull, and slack really is its final destination.
But it’s not so simple as the pull being all good. Or the slack being all bad.
Some time after that I was lying in bed, reminiscing about a video game. I do so love video games. Then the pull yanked me again, the urge this time being to go into my living room in that instant and destroy my PS4. I suppose I didn’t feel the slack that time, unless it is that I didn’t notice it because I instinctively went with it. Maybe Wormtongue seduced me.
Another time, I had really got it into my head that I must go and watch John Wick 4. Even went out on a very rainy night to do so. At one point in the movie, a woman gets killed. That didn’t sit right with me, and I started looking at the movie in a much more dim light. What am I even doing? Is watching this shit really different from going to the Colosseum? And I felt the pull, this time telling me that I should stand up and leave, right now. This time, I also felt the slack: just sink into your seat, it was hard enough getting here, you want to get your money’s worth right? I went with the slack, which led to a very interesting experience with the movie. It was like I saw mankind rising against Ṛta in some kind of planet-wide rock concert mixed with a Brazilian carnival. Presumably, I would have seen something different had I left, something completely the opposite.
The pull is good in a way: it really was the right call to ditch that wine. But it’s also an all-consuming conflagration. It wants you to sacrifice all that isn’t it. It was the pull that made Abraham attempt to sacrifice Isaac, and it was the slack that made him change his mind. It was the pull that made the Aztecs sacrifice around 250,000 people per year.
The pull is yang and the slack is yin. When Jesus said:
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
maybe he was saying to kill yin? Well, yin, the dark side, doesn’t actually stand for evil. And there is this book called Christ, the Eternal Tao, which I haven’t read, but its mere existence is quite the statement.
And yet, what were the yin aspects of Jesus? He seems pure yang, the light side, which means he was imbalanced, which is ironically as close to a definition of evil as Taoism gets.
But, potentially, Jesus knew this. He did ask, 'Why do you call me good?’, which leads one to wonder what could be wrong about him that he had to reject the label ā€˜good’. Maybe he dimly sensed it was wrong to say things like ā€˜I am the way, the truth, and the life’, which is very un-taoist, what with its ideal of leading by not-leading (I have no idea what Christ, the Eternal Tao is on about).
That one really was a hell of a saying of Jesus. Can you imagine a guy looking you in the eye and saying that one to you? It’s honestly a legitimate miracle that he did that and at least some bought it. I wonder if I would’ve bought it. Would you have done so?
The pull and the slack map more cleanly into the Hindu guṇas, which are the 3 essential qualities of everything in existence. These are:
  1. Sattva, the ascending tendency, representing balance and harmony and all things good. It’s associated with the color white.
  2. Rajas, the horizontal tendency, representing passion, which is neither good nor bad. Associated with red.
  3. Tamas, the descending tendency, representing imbalance and chaos and all things bad. It’s color is black.
The pull is sattva and the slack is tamas, and it’s pretty neat that I independently confirmed the existence of these things, because it was only later that I learned sattva is an ascending tendency and tamas a descending one.
I haven’t really described rajas, because most things are rajas, at least in my life. Honestly, I would even file masturbation under that one, as I don’t really feel a descent there, and as it turns out, masturbation is not a big deal in Hinduism, it being seen as a very minor infraction even for people who have taken a vow of chastity.
An interesting thing about the guṇas, is that all three need to be present for there to be a manifestation, that is, a universe, at all: there couldn’t be such a thing as a purely sattvic, or tamasic, world. It would be like positing a one-note melody.
So yin-yang is an incomplete symbol. But it does highlight that interesting feature of yang having a dot of yin, and yin of yang: there is no such thing as all-yang or all-yin. If your right hand offends thee, what you really need is a dose of Taoism! (and maybe some Haldol).
We come back to the fact that, ultimately, pouring that wine down the sink was the right call. Would thrashing my PS4 had been the right call also? The third (and I know, final) time I was in the psych ward, I met a very devout, smiling Christian there. He even got other patients to kneel and pray with him. From interacting with him, it wasn’t clear why he ended up warded, but someone later told me that he had started thrashing all the electronics in his house, and when I asked him about it, he said there were demons in there. I shared that intuition for an instant then, and it’s pretty interesting that there’s this environmentalist Christian named Paul Kingsnorth whose work is all about how techno-capitalist civilization is this machine, the Machine, that we have enthroned as God and is in the process of devouring God’s creation, and the only way out is to renounce technology as best as you can and RETVRN TO TRADITION, though he doesn’t go quite that far with that last part (at least right now) being a former leftist and having a well-educated wife that I imagine would never go along with it.
Paul Kingsnorth is doing a more high-brow version of the behavior that got that Christian warded, and looking at it from another angle, the vibe worshipers over on That Part Of Twitter (better known as tpot) have said that AI art gives them bad vibes, and basically, are you down with this video?
Grimes - We Appreciate Power
Or do you want Kalki avatar to come, burn everything down, and restore Satya Yuga? Surely one must pick, it’s all so boring if we get stuck in an Eternal 90s.
Sattva and tamas, the pull and the slack. It pays to be aware of these things, because ultimately, even though the unbridled pull just leads to insanity, the fruit of the slack, tamas, can be seen in the homeless drug addicts which I see everyday. I don’t believe in a yin-yang balance between these things: it is better to have an overall sattvic tendency, to the degree one can manage it. I don’t believe it’s a matter of submitting to some rules. Someone once told me that true brahmins don’t indulge not because they are suppressing their desires, but because they are truly revolted by the things we would call indulging. I can’t say I yearn for such a state, but should I land in it, I don’t think I would resist it.
