2023.05.31 05:41 Imstillalive133 On a scale of 1 to 10. How outlandish should a Pro Wrestling company be when it comes to storylines and feuds?
I'm going to split this question up into 3 categories. But at the end of the day. All 3 categories have something to do with how much "realism" you want in Wrestling.
The 3 categories are.
To start off with drama. At the end of the day Wrestling is entertainment. So it makes sense there would be Jerry Springer level drama between Wrestlers. Where a Wrestler can feud with a other Wrestler, because his wife cheated on him with his rival.
For comedy, we always see silly segments with Wrestlers. Wrestlers getting married in the ring, Wrestlers having rap battles in the ring, Wrestlers having food fights in the ring, and the list goes on the amount shit that can happen in the ring.
And finally for supernatural. A lot of people are not fans of supernatural characters. Some people think it doesn't make sense for these characters to exist in Wrestling at all. People think these gimmicks died when The Undertaker left.
When it comes to different Wrestling companies. You have Lucha Underground where the supernatural is running wild brother. There are witches, zombies, demons, vampires, etc.
Then you have Wrestling companies like NJPW that are more sport based. NJPW actually look like a legit combat sport from what I have see so far as a casual fan.
Pro Wrestling companies the WWE or AEW are kinda like a mixture of both NJPW and LU to an extent. Albeit AEW is more on the spot side of that spectrum.
So to get back to my original question. With all this being said about the 3 categories I listed in this post. What is your limitation on the amount of outlandish things a Pro Wrestling company can get away with?

At San Diego Comic-Con in July, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had other people raising eyebrows when he said that his long-awaited superhero debut in Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out would be the beginning of “a new era” for the DC Extended Universe naturally followed: What did he mean? And what would that kind of reset mean for the remainder of DCEU's roster, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the rest of the Justice League, Suicide Squad, Shazam and so on.As
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out neared theaters, though, Johnson clarified that statement in a recent sit-down with Yahoo Entertainment (watch above).
“I feel like this is our opportunity now to expand the DC Universe and what we have in Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which I think is really cool just as a fan, is we introduce five new superheroes to the world,” Johnson tells us. Aldis Hodge's Hawkman, Noah Centineo's Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell's Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan's Doctor Fate, who together comprise the Justice Society.) “One anti-hero.” (That would be DJ's Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out .)
“And what an opportunity. The Justice Society pre-dated the Justice League. So opportunity, expand out the universe, in my mind… all these characters interact. That's why you see in Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , we acknowledge everyone: Batman , Superman , Wonder Woman, Flash, we acknowledge everybody. There's also some Easter eggs in there, too.So that's what I meant by the resetting. Maybe resetting' wasn't a good term.only
one can claim to be the most powerful superhero .And Johnson, when gently pressed, says it's his indestructible, 5,000-year-old Kahndaqi warrior also known as Teth-Adam, that is the most powerful superhero in any universe, DC, Marvel or otherwise
"By the way, it's not hyperbole because we made the movie."And we made him this powerful.
There's nothing so wrong with “Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” that it should be avoided, but nothing—besides the appealing presence of Dwayne Johnson—that makes it worth rushing out to see. spectacles that have more or less taken over studio filmmaking, but it accumulates the genre's—and the business's—bad habits into a single two- hour-plus package, and only hints at the format's occasional pleasures. “Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” feels like a place-filler for a movie that's remaining to be made, but, in its bare and shrugged-off sufficiency, it does one positive thing that, if nothing else, at least accounts for its success: for all the churning action and elaborately jerry-rigged plot, there's little to distract from the movie's pedestal-like display of Johnson, its real-life superhero.
It's no less numbing to find material meant for children retconned for adults—and, in the process, for most of the naïve delight to be leached out, and for any serious concerns to be shoehorned in and then waved away with dazzle and noise. Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” offers a moral realm that draws no lines, a personal one of simplistic stakes, a political one that suggests any interpretation, an audiovisual one that rehashes long-familiar tropes and repackages overused devices for a commercial experiment that might as well wear its import as its title. When I was in Paris in 1983, Jerry Lewis—yes, they really did love him there—had a new movie in theaters. You're Crazy, Jerry."Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out " could be retitled 'You're a Superhero, Dwayne'—it's the marketing team's PowerPoint presentation extended to feature length.
In addition to being Johnson's DC Universe debut, “Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out ” is also notable for marking the return of Henry Cavill's Superman. The cameo is likely to set up future showdowns between the two characters, but Hodge was completely unaware of it until he saw the film.

Unfortunately, Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out is not currently available to stream on Disney Plus and it's not expected that the film will release on Disney Plus until late December at the absolute earliest.
While Disney eventually releases its various studios' films on Disney Plus for subscribers to watch via its streaming platform, most major releases don't arrive on Disney Plus until at least 45-60 days after the film's theatrical release.
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out has finally ended the box office blues. It will be a close call, but based on the estimates, the year's biggest opener remains Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness with its $187 million start. Nonetheless, WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever's $180 million opening is a huge one, being the biggest ever for the month of November (beating the $158 million of The The Roundup: No Way Out Games: Catching Fire), the second biggest of the year, and the 13th biggest of all time (though it could go up or down a few slots once the actuals come out). It led an overall weekend box office of $208 million, which is the fourth biggest of the year and the biggest by a long shot of the past four months, with no other weekend since July 8 -10 even going above $133 million.
This isn't the $202 million opening that we saw from Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out in February 2018, nor should we expect the amazing legs that were able to get that film to an astonishing $700 million. With that said, expect it to perform strong throughout the holiday season, likely repeating the five-weekend number-one streak that the first film had, and it shouldn't have any trouble becoming the second highest grossing film of the year so far, beating the $411 million cume of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The audience response is strong, with the A CinemaScore falling below the first film's A+ but bouncing back from the B+'s earned by Doctor Strange 2 and Magic Mike's Last Dance, which ranked among the worst for the MCU. improvement over the recent franchise installations, with the aforementioned films coming in at 74% and 64% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes, both at the lower end for Marvel films, while WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever's 84% is closer to franchise norms, though not meeting the high bar set by the first Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out 's 96%.
The sequel opened to $150 million internationally, which Disney reports is 4% ahead of the first film when comparing like for likes at current exchange rates. Overall, the global cume comes to $330 million. Can it become the year's third film to make it past $1 billion worldwide despite China and Russia, which made up around $124 million of the first film's $682 million international box office, being out of play? It may be tough, but it's not impossible. Legging out past $500 million is plausible on the domestic front (that would be a multiplier of at least 2.7), and another $500 million abroad would be a drop of around $58 million from the original after excluding the two MIA markets. It'd be another story if audiences didn't love the film, but the positive reception suggests that WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever will outperform the legs on this year's earlier MCU titles (Multiverse of Madness and Love and Thunder had multipliers of 2.2 and 2.3 respectively).
As for the rest of the box office, there's little to get excited about, with nothing else grossing above $10 million as Hollywood shied away from releasing anything significant not just this weekend but also over the previous two weekends. When Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out opened in 2018, there was no counterprogramming that opened the same weekend, but Peter Rabbit and Fifty Shades Freed were in their second weekends and took second and third with $17.5 million and $17.3 million respectively. That weekend had an overall cume of $287 million compared to $208 million this weekend Take away the $22 million gap between the two Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out films and there's still a $57 million gap between the two weekends. The difference may not feel that large when a mega blockbuster is propping up the grosses, but the contrast is harsher when the mid-level films are the entire box office as we saw in recent months.
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which is the biggest grosser of the rough post-summer, pre-WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever season, came in second with just $8.6 million. Despite the blockbuster competition that arrived in its fourth weekend, the numbers didn't totally collapse, dropping 53 % for a cume of $151 million. Worldwide it is at $352 million, which isn't a great cume as the grosses start to wind down considering its $200 million budget. Still, it's the biggest of any film since Magic Mike's Last Dance, though WThe Roundup: No Way Outnda Forever will overtake it any day now.
Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out came in third place in its fourth weekend, down 29% with $6.1 million, emerging as one of the season's most durable grossers and one of the year's few bright spots when it comes to films for adults. The domestic cume is $56.5 million Fourth place went to Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile, which had a negligible drop of 5% for a $3.2 million sixth weekend and $40.8 million cume., in fact )
Which isn't surprising considering it's the only family film on the market, and it's close to grossing four times its $11.4 million opening. Still, the $72.6 million worldwide cume is soft given the $50 million budget , though a number of international markets have yet to open.
Finishing up the top five is Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which had its biggest weekend drop yet, falling 42% for a $2.3 million seventh weekend. Of course, that's no reason to frown for the horror film, which has a domestic cume of $103 million and global cume of $ 210 million from a budget of just $20 million.
The one new specialty title of note comes from a filmmaker we don't typically associate with the specialty box office: Steven Spielberg. The Beard's semi-autobiographical family drama Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out opened in four theaters in New York and Los Angeles to $160k, a $40k average. The film expands to 600 theaters the day before Thanksgiving, and it has the potential to break out in a way that none of the other of the season's awards contenders have. We're also seeing very solid numbers from Watch ‘The Roundup: No Way Out , which grossed $1.7 million this weekend for a seventh place finish, bringing its cume to $5.8 million.

2023.05.31 05:26 WizardOfRohan Magical show
I am rewatchig the whole series (watched the show every week until season 7 back when it was on TV) and I just wanted to share how magical I feel the first few seasons are. Yea most of it is probably nostalgia, but right now I am on season 1 episode 3 and WOW! I forgot how amazing these episodes were. The music and the whole vibe was so different from the later seasons. The moment when Rick meets up with the group outside of Atlanta and realizes he stumbled upon his best friend, wife, and son by chance is such a great moment. Some of these early seasons had some of the most iconic and memorable moments. Watching it again brings me back to the days when my mom and I would watch this show every week.
Sorry for the ramble, I just wanted to get this off my chest. Do you guys feel the same way? And if so, what are your standout moments from the early seasons?

2023.05.31 05:21 therealstewyhosseini My Thoughts on the Finale
I just finished the finale and holy hell did it shake me, I'm still processing and will be in recovery pretty soon.
This is going to be messy 'cause I'm tired, but I just wanted to share some things that came to mind with the reflecting I could do after.
Starting with the very end- that snapshot of Kendall sitting on the nondescript bench in front of the sea is reminiscent of Logan's own sitting in the opening theme. While Logan sat at the head of a table full of people in both instances (one I assume with family, the other with his board), Kendall is sitting alone on in front of the sea, by himself and I think just taking these three variants of the same snap, we can pretty much summarize the entire show- young Logan at the head of his estate, his family, bright lighting, turns into old Logan at the head of his board and finally Kendall alone, having sowed nothing greater, if anything at all, than his father's legacy in spite of all his strife. I think this sequence is tragic, and perfectly portrays the disorder- dissolution- the opposite of succession that lay underneath the story of the Roys.
I think Tom's "win" is also poetic. He'd been derided by his own wife, her siblings as being a farm-boy come-up, and so taking over as CEO seems like universal justice. However I find it even more interesting that he really might be the spiritual successor to Logan, as Logan was also self-made (in a way), and probably endured a steeper climb to the top, through the abuse of family (the abusive relationship he and Shiv equally had), than any of the the siblings could ever have in another mirror of Logan's modest beginning. He's also a dysfunctional guy whose hard-work seems to have been driven by greed like everyone else, but more by security.
In contrast to Kendall who carried a sense of destiny with him from the first season, for Tom it was merely a serious ambition to become CEO and it floated in the face of all the antics that Kendall, who is also an anxious go-getter pulled for the same.
Tom's victory is bittersweet though because he's still the someone's bitch he's always been, just to a Swedish shark who intends to make the most out of bossing him around. Still, he's finally gotten what he's always wanted, with who he wanted, and I realize he expected much worse out of the acquisition than he got. On the other hand (literally and figuratively), Shiv chose to oust herself from Kendall's grasp, her vote decided fate and even if we were hurried to understand that she can see past her ambition, to try real love, I really appreciated her quiet resignation and the fact that after all the conflict, Shiv and Tom's old plan is hinted to be actualized (headcanon, they get back together- even if the weight of the reconnection is the baby). Their awkward hand-touching signifies this, with Tom taking his portion of control in initiating it and Shiv reserving the rest in only placing her hand on his. It's very clear they have stuff to sort out but I'm optimistic whatever is between them after this will be better even if imperfect.
Everyone in this show was a selfish, horrible person, so selfish and horrible that I feel bad about Ken's ultimate failure (who is arguably the most selfish). He was so close to blocking the deal, but Shiv proved that blood is not always thicker than water, especially if it is diluted. The almost bipolar switch from them crowning him king, to the meltdown at the crux of everything. Shiv spitting in the blender foreshadowed her denying him his self-proclaimed right, and Roman's crowning him, he did vote for him, but it was all poo-poo in the end and Rome had no more shit to give: "We're bullshit".
On Roman, because this is the second time I'm mentioning his name here. I think Roman getting hurt in the crowd, run over, and ignored in the previous episode gave him perspective on how alone he's been. Kendall always wanted to be alone, and at the top, and I guess so did Shiv to an extent, and Roman too, but Rome was the most indecisive about the prospect of succeeding their dad. I suspect him wanting to be CEO is the most purely derived from his memory of Logan, their relationship. He was clearly the most affected by his passing and his breakdown in the office room looked more to me like mourning him than mourning his own loss of opportunity.
To me, it follows that Roman in the bar, Shiv in the car and then Kendall on the bench, are shown in order. Roman lost the least out of these three, Shiv lost more than Roman but less than Ken, and Kendall lost everything, Connor lost nothing. Ken's wishy-washy neglect of family in pursuit of his vision- both the family he created and the family he was born into- all amounted to nothing. Shiv and Connor are about to create a new family. Roman has no family. The finale is just concluding the long tumble to freedom of the Roy kids that Logan's passing marked. Released from the shadow of their father into the shadow of everything else, they can only confront themselves and live on, if not live better.
Shoutout to Greg, who remains Gregging, Gerri who only deserves the massive payout she's getting, the nameless snakes in the late partriach's cupboard about to be returned to the field, Matsson for being the personification of personal disastecollective profit and a prick, and Stewy for being an okay friend and absolute winner any way.
I've nothing to follow now and feel so empty.

Me and my wife have been fans for a few years now, and members for 2. We've watched almost all episodes since, but a few weeks ago, we we're like should we keep watching? We missed like one episode, and then there was a banger episode (don't remember which one) brought after a couple missed.
Anyways, the after dark with Martin and idz was peak, like such a good episode that mixed real ass info with entertainment, something fresh and fit couldn't dream of. It's just a great era that the show is in right now.
Also grats to Love for moving to really get to be a part of the crew. Good times ahead.

2023.05.31 05:08 AutoModerator When Can I Watch “Master Gardener” OnLine Free Streaming For Reddit
Our gardens are under assault. Whether it’s aphids, slugs, or brown patches, it can feel like our precious plants are constantly under threat. Luckily, we have the internet to help us out. “Master Gardener” is a new streaming series that promises to help us take back our gardens. Each episode of “Master Gardener” features expert advice on a different gardening topic. In the first episode, viewers will learn how to identify common garden pests. In subsequent episodes, viewers will learn how to combat these pests using both chemical and organic methods. “Master Gardener” is available for streaming on the series’ website. New episodes are released every Wednesday.
The Plot Summary of “Master Gardener”
When Steve McQueen’s “Master Gardener” first aired on PBS in 2006, the entire series was available to watch for free online streaming. The series followed McQueen as he attempted to become a certified master gardener. Throughout the show, McQueen gave advice on how to start and maintain a garden, as well as tips on choosing the right plants for your climate. While the show was popular with gardeners, it was also praised for its humor and McQueen’s narration. In one episode, McQueen tries to grow watermelons in his backyard and fails miserably. However, he does not give up and tries again the following year. This time, he is successful and his watermelons are featured on the show. Critics praised “Master Gardener” for its educational value, as well as its entertainment value. The show was a hit with viewers of all ages and became one of PBS’s most popular programs. If you missed the show when it aired, you can still watch it for free online streaming.
More Details on Curmudgeon Films’ “Master Gardener”
Curmudgeon Films’ Master Gardener is a delightful film about an elderly woman named Gladys (played by Beryl Reid) who unexpectedly learns she has a talent for gardening. Though she is initially resistant to the idea, she eventually comes to enjoy spending her days in the garden and even begins to share her knowledge with others. The film follows Gladys as she enters into a friendly rivalry with her neighbour, Mrs. Saunders (played by Sheila Hancock), and scrambling to keep up with the demand for her plants from the local community. Master Gardener is a heartwarming story that will leave you feeling inspired. Beryl Reid is superb in the role of Gladys, and the film is worth watching for her performance alone. However, the supporting cast is also excellent, and the film features some stunning scenery. Curmudgeon Films has done an amazing job with this film, and it is definitely worth watching. If you are looking for a feel-good film to watch, then look no further than Curmudgeon Films’ Master Gardener. You can stream it for free online, so there is no excuse not to give it a try.
Although “Master Gardener” may seem like a standalone film, there are actually quite a few connections to the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. For one, the film’s protagonist, Scott Lang, is the same character played by Paul Rudd in the “Ant-Man” films. In those movies, Scott is a former criminal who turns to a life of crime-fighting after being given a suit that allows him to shrink in size. In “Master Gardener”, Scott is dealing with the aftermath of the events of “Avengers: Endgame”. In that film, the villain Thanos snapped his fingers and half of the population of the universe was erased from existence. This included Scott’s daughter, Cassie. Scott is still grieving her loss when we see him in “Master Gardener”. Another connection to the larger MCU is the character of Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas. Hank is a scientist who invented the technology that allows people to shrink in size. He is also Scott’s mentor and the father of Scott’s love interest, Hope van Dyne (played by Evangeline Lilly). In the “Ant-Man” films, Hank and Hope are both fighting against Darren Cross, a villain who also has access to Hank’s shrinking technology. In “Master Gardener”, Hank is dealing with the loss of his wife, Janet van Dyne (played by Michelle Pfeiffer). Janet is the original Wasp, a superhero who shrinks in size and can fly with wings made of energy. She was also a founding member of the Avengers, and was thought to have been killed in action many years ago. Hank is still grieving her loss when we see him in “Master Gardener”. These are just a few of the connections that “Master Gardener” has to the larger MCU. Although the film is primarily focused on Scott’s personal journey, the events of the wider world are always looming in the background.
Is”Master Gardener” the end of the line for the team?
The question of whether or not Master Gardener is the end of the line for the team has been a hot topic of debate among fans of the show. Some believe that the showrunners would never kill off the entire team, while others feel that the show has been heading in that direction for some time. There is no clear answer, but there are some key factors to consider. One factor to consider is the show’s ratings. Master Gardener has been on a steady decline in the ratings department for some time now. This could be a sign that the show is heading for cancellation, as networks are typically more interested in shows that are doing well in the ratings. Another factor to consider is the show’s budget. Master Gardener is a pretty expensive show to produce, and it’s possible that the network is no longer willing to invest in it. This could also lead to the show being cancelled. Ultimately, whether or not Master Gardener is the end of the line for the team is up in the air. It’s possible that the show could be renewed for another season, but it’s also possible that it could be cancelled. Only time will tell.

2023.05.31 04:43 Lord_Guyis Season 2 Episode 21 Anime and Manga Differences
Okie dokie, here we are with the differences and comparisons between the anime and manga for season 2 episode 21. Standard disclaimers: 1. this is pretty much spoiler-free, I will only talk about the portion of content from the manga that was covered in the episode. 2. a difference one way or the other is not inherently a good or bad thing. I'll probably dislike the anime's changes, but those are my judgements, you have yours. 3. I am comparing the official english versions of the material that I have easily available to me, as such I'm comparing 2 different translations, I'm aware the two JP versions almost certainly have identical wording in most parts (and that Netflix is just using the manga lines, for the most part). With that said, let us begin.
This episode is a little odd and in order to accommodate a change made last episode, covers all but the last 4 pages of chapter 94, and all but the first 5 and last 2 pages of 95. Totaling out to 49 pages.
- Cut lines from Wulf: "In all, 122 dead on the farm's side, eight dead on ours, Your Majesty. Heavier losses than we anticipated."
- Cut lines from Canute in response: "...It was unavoidable. We needed to display our overwhelming might in battle."
- Tiny cut of Wulf saying "Indeed." to that^ line from Canute.
- Tiny bit cut from Canute's lines to Floki: "We will wait for Ketil's surrender here."
- More cut from Canute to Floki, explaining that they can't pillage: "I was hoping to gain it unharmed. Do not damage it any further."
- Cut lines from Sweyn: "Do you think this makes you a wise and virtuous king, Canute? Lies will not work on me, boy. You want to believe that your actions are just and noble. Well, let me say this."
- Some more cut from Sweyn: "Noble goals cannot be achieved through noble means alone."
- Anime: "Canute, you killed your father and your brother. Keep killing until your corpse-lined road reaches paradise." Manga: "Kill your father, your brother, your people. Kill, kill, and kill until the path of bones leads to your paradise."
- The scene of Einar at Arnheid's grave alone is anime-original.
- One more cut location marker: "Ketil's Farm - Guest Lodging"
- Anime added a couple extra shots of Olmar walking into the fort before stopping.
- Cut line from Snake explaining the situation to Ketil's family: "That said...the farm has fewer than twenty fighters remaining." Thorgil later says that twenty men are enough for a fight, so it's odd to cut this line.
- Anime: "Snake, this happened because you're a spineless coward." Manga: "This is the result of your utter incompetence, Snake!!"
- Cut line from Ketil's wife yelling at Snake: "We had over three times the men, yet we lost!!"
- Cut line from Thorgil: "This is what will carve the name Thorgil into the annals of history!!"
- Cut bit from Sverkel's lines explaining who gets to decide: "I am retired, and you left the family."
- Anime: "Doesn't that embarrass you as a Norse man?" Manga: "Olmar, you ungrateful child!! You're a Norseman-have you no shame?!"
- Anime: "Sorry, I misspoke." Manga: "All right, fine, poor choice of words. It ain't your fault."
- Bit cut from Thorgil's lines: "You were nothing but a means to make his play."
- Anime: "People will always find a reason to fight." Manga: "Don't you know how war works?! They'll find a way to twist things to their ends no matter what!"
- Anime: "Show us the courage of a Norse warrior one more time." Manga: "You stuck up for it once, and now you have to keep going! Show me your viking bravery again, Olmar!"
- In the manga, Thorgil never fully puts his hand on Olmar's shoulder. Olmar swats it away before he can.
- Anime added some more to Sverkel's lines and changed some stuff. Anime: "It's true that many have been supported by your strength. But I know you've seen it, too. How those possessed by wealth and power end up. But you haven't lost all of this for nothing. In exchange for your farm, your son has become a man." Manga: "Too much wealth leads to disaster...I told you time and time again, Ketil... Heh... But it will not all go to waste. In exchange for the farm, your son has become a man."
- Here the anime cuts the next 9 pages. This is due to how they've reordered some events and in relation to how last episode ended. What's cut here is a scene of Thorfinn about to leave with Leif before thinking: "Master survived. Canute didn't capture him. Which means this war hasn't ended yet. Maybe now...I can make it in time? The way things are now...can I really leave this place like this?" and turning around, saying he's forgotten something. Einar then runs after Thorfinn and tries to convince him that he has no reason to try and help the farm, that this is a war and that his strength alone won't make a difference. Thorfinn counters that they do owe Pater and Sverkel a debt, and further explains his reasoning for going to Canute: "Until just moments ago, I didn't want anything to do with this battle, either. But...now that I've sworn to build a land of peace, that's changed. I can't simply decide that as long as Vinland is peaceful, everywhere else can burn. Don't you agree, Einar?" Einar then says that it's not like they can fight Canute's men, they don't have a single sword, to which Thorfinn says: "Don't be stupid. A sword would only make this more dangerous. Did you think I was going to fight them? I am going to broker peace." Thorfinn then says that he knows Canute, which surprises Einar. And now the anime picks back up at Canute's camp. So yeah, with the scene at the end of ch 93 displaced to a later episode, Thorfinn's reasoning for going to Canute has seemingly changed to being something that we're supposed to assume is similar to Canute's reasoning for wanting to build his paradise as stated back in the Prologue, instead of what Thorfinn himself says here. Some of these cut lines are placed at the end of the episode after Thorfinn accepts the bet.
- Related to that, The scene of Einar talking to Leif and running on his own are anime-original.
- Again due to changes stated above, Einar is not with Thorfinn when he arrives at Canute's camp in the anime, only showing up later. In the manga, Einar is there from the start and so as a result, in the anime he no longer appears in many shots that he was in in the manga.
- In the manga Drott is wearing chainmail under his tunic, whereas the anime has made it just a dark shirt.
- In the manga, when Drott initially tells Thorfinn off, he slaps Thorfinn and tells him to "Go back and deliver the message."
- Tiny cut line from Thorfinn after saying that he was Canute's guard: "Please confirm this with him."
- Cut Einar panel showing him shocked to hear about Thorfinn: "Can it be? The king's own guard..."
- Cut reaction of Einar yelling "Thorfinn!!" after Drott first punches Thorfinn.
- Tiny cut line from Drott after asking Thorfinn if that punch woke him up: "Stop sleeptalking."
- Tiny cut thing from Wulf explaining that Thorfinn "is not a relative of Ketil's."
- Anime: "Son of Thors... Yeah, right." Manga: "Son of Thors... Can't be. It's a common enough name."
- Cut lines from Thorfinn while Drott is swinging at him: "Just let His Majesty know... That I want...to speak!"
- Cut panel of Einar yelling: "That's enough, Thorfinn! Let's go! They aren't going to listen to you!"
- Anime: "Damn, I underestimated them. In any case, I need to change the situation." Manga: "Damn! I was naive... I haven't even been able to meet Canute... I have to change the situation somehow... There must be an idea, a better plan..."
- As stated before, Einar showing up now is anime-original, and what is said up until Thorfinn asks what the bet is partially anime-original, and partially moved from a slightly later panel.
- Cut line from the man explaining the bet: "You've got to play the dark horse bet, or it doesn't count!"
- The short exchange between Einar and Thorfinn after Thorfinn accepts the bet is an anime-original bit, though a good deal of the lines are lifted from the cut 9 pages.
- Here the anime cuts the final 2 pages of chapter 95. The final page could likely show up next episode, but the page before that assuredly won't as it relates to content cut out and around in these past 2 episodes. It's a cut to Leif and Bug-Eyes with Bug-Eyes noting that Einar and Thorfinn have been gone for awhile, wondering if the thing Thorfinn "forgot" was really heavy and if he should have gone to help carry it.
And that'll be all for this one. Primarily just dialogue changes (both just translation changes and cuts or rewrites) this episode, and otherwise further alterations to accommodate the changes and reordering that the end of last episode brought up. I am still not a fan of those changes, and the resulting cuts from this episode, but all-in-all this episode was pretty alright. Not much else to say about it.

2023.05.31 03:49 J_random_fool Wifi issues on some devices but not others
We recently got a new router at my house and around the same time, I got a new Macbook. Frequently, meaning at least once a week, my mac will no longer be able to connect to the network, whereas my iPhone will still show that it's connected to WiFi. Additionally, some other devices, like my child's computer may drop it's connection, and sometimes my phone will show it's connected to Wifi and then change to LTE. A little while ago, the connection dropped and after waiting a little while, I see my wifi network showing at full strength in the wifi drop-down menu on my mac. When I choose it, it spun for a few seconds and said it wasn't able to connect. Clicking on that selection in the menu caused a dialog to appear stating that it could connect to Wifi but not the internet. I waited a little while longer, and now my mac is connected to the internet.
Often, when this happens, we simply reset the router and that takes care of it, but I would like to be able to isolate the issue a little better. Unfortunately, some troubleshooting steps are less than practical, e.g. going to a friends house to see if I can connect to their WiFi to rule out that it's my mac's software.
I would guess that the possibilities are:
-There's a problem with the cable into the house. In this most recent episode, I can hear my wife watching cable tv downstairs.
-There's an issue with the modem.
-There's an issue with the ethernet cable between the modem and the router
-There's an issue with the router
-There's an issue with my device.
-Different incidents may have different causes from the above possibilities.
Are there any good ways to isolate the variables here? FTR, I don't think it's my computer, but can't prove that. That said, what would make it start working again without doing anything?

2023.05.31 03:43 Mean-Flamingo9535 Crying at night
My baby (3 months) cries before sleeping. This has just become part of her routine within the last month or so. And since I know that’s just part of it, it’s easier to stay calm. My wife does not handle it well.
Usually after 30 seconds or so, She passes out and sleeps through the night. No big deal. But tonight was really bad. Multiple episodes.
I think it’s because my partner kept coming in the room to try to help. I’ve read that babies can protest sleep as they’d rather hang out with you. Or have separation anxiety. Am I crazy for thinking that this was part of the issue? She knew if she cried mom would come, which made it harder for her to settle?
Sorry for inexperience. First time parent. And don’t fully know how cognitive babies are to these kind of cues.

2023.05.31 03:08 Empty_Advice7902 The Dark Rise of One Piece: Anime's Loneliest Creator - The Eiichiro Oda Story!
| || | submitted by Empty_Advice7902 to OnePiece [link] [comments]
Is One Piece the greatest Story ever told? A full Essay / Video Documentary on Eiichiro Oda and One Piece. To me One Piece is a masterpiece but it took a lot of sacrifices for Oda to become the best selling mangaka of all time. I just hope I did him justice. This is the Rise and Controversies of Anime and Manga's most dedicated Creator.
YouTube Documentary: https://youtu.be/obwz7ewVwnY
At the time this is bring made is being made Eiichiro Oda has amassed an astonishing 230,000,000 Net Worth and is the creator of the highest selling manga of all time. One Piece has sold so many copies, that not only is Oda in the Guinness book of world records for the most copies ever sold of any manga or comic but it also puts his name in the top 10 highest selling fiction authors in human history. Engraving the name Eiichiro Oda next to William Shakespeare and JK Rowling. Oda is without a doubt one of the greatest and most creative story tellers of all time. https://preview.redd.it/hqtkwxdiu33b1.jpg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aeb983436a68a455589f2ebc9f71efa2ba42a6d0
But this level us success and talent doesn’t come without sacrifices. Odas road to success is paved with A plethora of health issues both physical and mental, arrest and loneliness. One Piece has brought joy to millions of people and its success is something that Oda has dreamed of since he was 4 years old watching anime and Disney cartoons. Will act as a celebration of oda’s well earned achievements but also the over looked acknowledgment of the sacrfises, a-lot of Artist have to suffer through for our enjoyment, and dark untold truth of the manga industry. A Mangaka who escaped the industry even referred to it as “voluntary enslavement”. with an more infamous example being when kishmoto Creator Naruto and a rival of oda, finally finished his popular long running series, he reached out to oda to brag that he can now finally take a walk with his kid on a sunny day which would send the one piece author into a spiral but also motivated him to keep working so he could take walks with his family too one day. https://preview.redd.it/gpad5gauu33b1.jpg?width=512&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e5d3f31a424421779e3d95827d1a0da1a572ce97
Oda was born January 1st, 1975 in Kumamoto City Japan. From an early age he was obsessed with all things animated and cinema. Everything from Anime, Disney cartoons and Hollywood movies. By the age of 4 Oda had already began reading manga and immediately after he found out creating manga was a career! He couldn’t believe such a cool job existed and declared he would become a Mangaka to quote “avoid getting a real job” The manga that contributed the most to this epiphany was a series called “The Monster Kid” by fukiko a fujio. A story about a kid and his companions traveling through realms battling various Monsters. Oda claims that one of the panels from this specific manga was the first that made him want to draw and he would go on to draw endless copies of his favorite panel trying to get his drawings to look as good as Fujio’s. He simultaneously had fallen in love with an anime called “Vicky The Viking” Monster Kid
A show that told the adventures of Vicky, a young Viking who would use his Witty and imaginative mind to help his friends out of tight situations.
Vicky the Viking
Vicky would spark odas life long fascinations with pirates and plant the seed for a idea that would eventually grow into one piece. you can see Vickies influenced sprinkled through out oda’s work. When odas dad found out about his sons newfound ambitions he decided to teach him to paint as he himself was a talented oil painter. oda credited his dad for his creative side and still shows off his dads paintings as the proud son he is. Oda became quite the proficient painter as well. One of his original paintings he did for a school project still hangs in his elementary school to this day
When oda got a little older and his manga taste matured He gravitated toward the Weekly shonen Jump. A anthogly of mostly action-based manga that targets an older demographic.
Oda also had started junior high around this time but admitted that it was rough for him and that he often didn’t enjoy it. The only time he would really feel happy was when he knew their was a new jump issue coming out the next day.
He loved Everything from legendary Gag series Kochikame, to the action comedy Kinnikuman.
A popular series in the Anthology called “Capatin Tsubasa” would even inspire oda to join his school soccer team just like the characters in the show. As you can tell he was a very impressionable and remains so to this day many of odas characters and themes are based of various pop culture icons like Jim Carrey, Eminem, the terminator and reservoir dogs to name a few you might know but also various Japanese acting and historical legends. https://preview.redd.it/xacz28kov33b1.jpg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c48abe546e097a7abae860fe341bc9bb965e2a6
oda never dropped his love for soccer with his favorite team being Brazil. Oda revealed in a q and a that in the real world luffy would be from Brazil so I can’t help but to think this is influenced by “Capatin Tsubasa” oda would find his biggest influences though when he stubbled apon the series Dragon Ball. He was obsessed Toriyma’s art style and reread it more than any other manga. He loved his character designs and practicing them is why he said he got so good at drawing legendary buff dudes. But the most impactful thing Dragon Ball ever did for oda was show him how impactful manga could be. https://preview.redd.it/xpmlog1mv33b1.jpg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37f3ee26edad2c2243ed8b382f349117e10957fa
When dragon ball was first gaining popularity oda remembers going to school and just seeing how his peers would react to the weekly releases. One day he would see his school get thrown into chaos by a single chapter.
“When Krillin died in Dragon Ball, the whole school was thrown into turmoil. I remember someone kept running and shouting in the school, "Krillin died!!" with Jump in his hand."
Seeing the influence a great story could have would completely reshaped the way oda looked at manga and reenforce his desires to master the craft himself.
This feeling would last with oda and the 2nd year of jr high he would start developing his talent and began drawing sketches for a pirate based manga. Over the next several years oda would continue draw everyday in his free time even at the cost of his sleep and friends. this would be foreshadowing for how obsessive he can be when he puts his mind to something. At the age of 17 he would quit soccer in an attempt to take his mangaka ambitions more seriously. He had learned about a very prestigious manga completion from a company called shueisha. It was called the tezuka award and it was given to the best manga submitted by aspiring creators.
During the same time Oda had taken a liking to an Western American Film called Young Guns, this would go on to inspire him to work 4 months on his first full-length Manga titled Wanted! it was an action gag comedy set in a western themed world. https://preview.redd.it/iofbbbd1w33b1.jpg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1a4861bcd115ef687ada71058e699de7d3fb182d
Oda was very proud of this creation and was excited to submit it, but he was also concerned of his parents and teachers disapproving of his decisions to focus all his efforts onto something not school related. to fix this problem would submit his work under the pseudonym Tsuki Himizu Kikondo.
Being the unknown prodigy he was he would win 2nd Place and take home a 500,000 Yen cash prize. Winning this award at such a young age would send shock waves through the manga industry. many professionals within the business started keeping their eyes on him. In early 1993, Oda would go on to get several interviews and his Manga would get published in Shueisha's Mezase Mangaka! Around this time he would drop his pseudonym and start going by his real name. Showing that he was growing a lot more confident in his work. His first professional interview would even be published in Oda’s Hometown’s most prominent newspaper. Odas life was changing fast. It was getting harder and harder for even his haters to doubt his talent. Later that year he graduated high school and entered Kyushu Tokai University under the architecture program. although he never used his architectural talents in the actual field,
I can’t help but to think in played a massive part in his unique city and island designs in one piece. During university oda would continue submitting more of his work to Shueisha. Not knowing his previous win already qualified him for a spot for a monthly off shoot of the weekly Shonen Jump. This spot is is where oda would release his next manga. “God's Gift for the Future” Gods Gift
This manga followed a pickpocket named bran that wanted to change his way of life but couldn’t stop his bad habits. through a series of events he winds up with a magic death note book gifted from god that can not alive anyone by writing the exact date and event in the notebook. look im just gonna say it. Gods gift for the future came out in October 1993 and Death note came out a decade later in 2003. Im not saying Ohba copied teenage odas work but there are alot of similarities and I found some threads that already been disscussing the topic.
If you read all of odas work in release order, you can see how each one gets progressively better and more complex. And he defiantly has two things he was good at from the begginning. Character development and world building. Part this is due to oda admitted just loving the characters he creates and he even said cries while drawing emotional or sad scenes they have to go through.
But being the near physcoeopathically ambitious machine he was. even at a young age He wasn’t satisfied with only being in a Monthly release magazine so the following year in 1994 he decided to enter a contest named Hop-Step Awards with a Manga named Ikki Yako, Oda won first place with Ikki Yako giving him his first undisputed success as a Mangaka. Ikki Yako
With the back back awards and victories, oda was finally believing he had an actual chance at his dream coming to fruition, so the same year in 1994 he would drop out of university to pursue he career as a professional Mangaka. Dropping out of college is a huge deal in Japan. Even if you become a success some people will look down on you as school is seen as a right of passage to many Japanese citizens. Not as a option as it is in some other countries. Japans unique out look on hard work educationally and professionally will contribute to the dark concepts we will explore in the latter part of the video. And if you remember oda specifically didnt like school and often struggled to find enjoyment while being there. With some impressive accolades under his belt and a new found freedom oda would move to Tokyo under the charge of his editor Karou Kushima this was his officially start as as a true Mangaka. Oda had gotten a job at shonen Jump as an assistant as many inspiring mangakas do. He made practically no money but it was a necessary stepping stone all mangaka have to take if they want shot of publishing there own work one day. Some work as assistants for years or even decades with never getting that chance and often break under the extreme exceptions pushed onto them by the industry.
Odas first assistant Job was for shinobu kaitani’s midoriyama police gang. It was only for the last few chapters of the series and would last just a month. But Oda claims it was extremely busy month for him and he gained an immense amount of experience about the production of a professional manga.
After his manga finished Kaitani would leave Shonen Jump, Oda was sent to another Mangaka assisting creator Masaya Tokuhiro through the final years of their Manga Jungle King Tar-Chan. Tokuhiro was also the creator of the more famous Kappaman.
Oda would work for Tokuhiro for a very long time. Tokuhiro was infamous for being very resistant with allowing others to help with the important parts of his work. This was hard for oda because the free time he got after his 12-14 hour shifts he would spend drawing cool ideas for his own stories and ideas he thought might work for tokukiros but his boss would never even entertain one idea, but oda would still learn alot during this time period. specifically improving his skills of background and crowd art. During this time oda would create and submit serval of his own stories to his editor kushima. and pretty much all of them would be immediately dismissed. This would hurt but he would try to not take the harsh criticism to heart. But this would all change when Oda would create and release his next manga Monsters!
After throughly rereading it and then going back to all of his old works he began to see many of his inadequacies. This motivated oda to work even harder to fix his mistakes. He started thinking maybe his editor was right telling him he wasn’t ready yet. Oda was now sleeping only 5 hours night and began skipping meals because they took up to much time that he could be using to improve his craft.
When Kappaman ended in Mid-1996 his new boss would also move on from shusisha and oda entered his final assistant tenure under the esteemed Nobuhiro Watsuki. Working on the best selling Manga Rurouni Kenshin or Samauri X.
This would be huge for oda! Watsuki was one of the most popular mangaka not just in shonen jump but in all of Japan! He also was known to have a way more laid back style then odas previous editors. Watsuki allowed assistants to be involved in his work, speak their mind and would even review their ideas seriously. that doesn’t mean he would improve them but he felt being involved and getting hands experience was the best way to learn not just busy work for hours on in.
Oda would thrive in this environment! and one of his ideas would actually pass all the hurtles and he even was credited in the Rurouni Kenshin Manga for coming up with the Character Honjō Kamatari. The great scythe. The was huge for oda and added alot of creditably to his suggestions moving forward. Oda would never forget the faith watuski sensei had in him and unfortunately this would come with some grave consciences later on.
Oda was enjoying his time in watsuki studio but he remained troubled by the fact his ideas for Manga drafts continuously got rejected.
Oda decided since all his new ideas wasn’t cutting he would revamp his original idea for an anime. In a last resort style effort oda began work on a pirate themed manga. He decided to call it Romance Dawn. Not feeling hopeful oda would submit it to his editor. But to odas surprise Mishima was very impressed by it and would approve for it to go into further development immediately. It would debut in a shonen jump summer special and received much praise from the readers. During the production of romance dawn oda would fall under the supervision of a new editor takanori Asada who would also believe in romance dawn. He would arrange for oda to fill the gap in the weekly shonen jump that was coming up. This was an incredibly rare and unique opportunity. Oda accepted and immediately created a 2nd version of romance dawn! Within 2 weeks it was approved by Asada as well. But a weird thing was happening. The readers Loved the unique Pirate themed story and odas handlers believed in it and saw the potential greatness in oda’s work but the higher ups where very skeptical and doubtful of Oda’s concepts and refused it entirely! Romance Dawn
They didn’t wanna try anything new. They wanted more of what worked. Basically dragon ball 2.0s but oda specially set out to make the exact opposite, this was because of 2 of odas earlier influences. Dragon ball, He loved the fights and designs but wished it was more story driven and a much more random influence was the wizard of oz. Oda loved the adventure aspect of it and implemented it into many of his works but he hated the ending of the classic movie. He thought the “The real treasure was the friends we made along the way” troup was stupid. That fans deserve build up and pay off. Oda basically was inventing the slow burn of mangas. That pull you in through world building not just flashy fights. Lucky for Oda asada wasn’t having any of his supervisors nonsense and would wage war on them proclaiming that oda has something great on his hands and he would continue this campaign for months.
and in May 1997, One Piece had finally been approved for publishing in Weekly Shonen Jump. If you love one piece make Sure you show resect for asada because it wasn’t for him we might have never been blessed which such a great story. Remember this was odas last ditch effort and who knows what would happen if it had failed.
Soon after, Oda resigned from being Watsuki Assistant on good terms, and became a full-fledged professional Mangaka himself at the age of 22. His adventure was about to reach hights and pitfalls that he could have never imagined.
And if you wanna follow me own my own adventure to be the pirate king of YouTube. This video was suppose to be saved for my 5000 subscribers special but I was so excited to drop it I couldn’t wait!
it would be cool if you could get this reddit thread to 200 upvotes
This is it Oda’s obsessive nature and hard work has payed off and he wasn’t about to let it go to waste. He would double down his effort once more and from this point forward things would start moving incredible quickly.
Oda would take everything’s he learned and created over the years and start immediately drafting the first 8 chapters of One Piece. Asada would lend him a hand and help him refine his ideas and offer some advice he thought could give One Piece a higher chance of success. He gave oda the advice of spicing up the first couple chapters. He thought oda had a great concept but that it wasn’t interesting enough and needed more stakes. Something too hook people and leave them wanting more. This lead to the idea of the Shanks incident in the first chapter. I think this was a great decision and set the tone for the rest of the story.
On July 1997 Weekly Shonen Jump #34 had premiered the first chapter of One Piece titled Romance Dawn giving homage to his Romance Dawn Manga that started it all. When they finished they was pretty sure they had something great on their hands but they was so nervous in wouldn’t do well. They couldn’t shake their butterflies and when the 1st Volume released Oda and his editor would hide in a bookstore and watch the customers and when they seen a little boy buying the one piece volume they would shout with pure joy! This is the cutest one piece fact and know and definitely one of my favorites because it shows how much one piece really means to him. His passion would blend onto the pages and pay off. By the end of the 1st year one piece would sell 300,000 copies. Making it a hit.
But this is again nothing compared to what would come. only one year later this number would grow to 6 million copies sold with no sign of slowing down. By 1999 one piece had reached over 17,000,000 prints and would receive a full length anime adaption that would be an instant smash across Japan. By 2001 oda was only 26 years old and the world was at his finger tips. He was a best selling mangaka and was getting all the interviews and festival bookings he could handle. But the most life altering appearance would happen at Jump festa 2002.
Why watching the performances he would see 22 year old Chiaki Inaba a model, idol, actress, Campaign girl and Race Queen. A artistic genius in her own right. During her show she would perform in a Nami swan cosplay. Showing her love for her favorite anime character that happen to be created by Oda who was in the audience. Her beauty and talent left oda smitten. It was like a romance anime scene. He had no choice but to introduce him self later the same day. They would hit it off and her personality had him hooked. Over the next 2 years they would begin seeing each other, squeezing in dates between her performance and oda busy work schedule. In 2004 they would get married opting to have a private wedding with only their closes friends attending.
Around 2004 one piece and shonen jump was more popular then ever. Manga and anime was spreading world wide. but there was an unprecedented surge in anime’s popularity in the west. The catalyst for this weeb take over would be thanks to 3 shonen Anime. One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. That would be deemed the Big 3. A titled bestowed on the 3 most popular anime of the 2000s. 3 series that completely carried shonen jump in this time period. Every anime fan in the world had one of these 3 in their top spot. later this era would be called the “Golden Age” of shonen Jump. The gap in sales of these 3 vs other series was mind blowing. And to this day the consistency of their popularity would never be repeated.
All 3 of these mangaka where living their dreams but anyone with their level of ambition wants to be the best not just top 3. The 2 creators with most smoke for each other would be One piece’s Oda and Bleach’s Kubo.
They 2 manga titans have had a 20 year beef that have left their fans constantly comparing the 2. The origins of this entanglement actually started because of our previously mention manga award that oda won for romance dawn. Kubo had entered the same competion and felt his win was a sure in and that it would be the launch to his own professional Mangaka adventure! But after bleach was out voted by romance dawn pushing his dreams back years. Bleach wouldn’t be released in jump til 2001! Kubo would holds oda personally responsible. in a 2017 interview when asked how he felt about his rival and he would respond saying “ I hate Oda” and revealed the 2 had a hairy run in in the 1990s.
A few years later oda would have a chance to respond in his own interview during a bleach exibxit for its 20th anniversary. He was asked about Kubo and said “ years ago kubo publicly announced he hates me? Do you want to know if I hold a grudge?” “Yes I do” he went on to say he didn’t knew in kubo meant it in a perticaly rude way or in a competitive way. He said kubo has always had a competitive spirt and was a hard worker but that he does have some audacity, to to say that in public. Oda was letting everyone know he is still always down for the smoke. He would draw Kubo’s character ichigo in the one piece art style and submit it to the exhibition. Oda Draws Ichigo
I love both anime but their lives sounding like real life anime rivals makes their series even better. It shows how much they both love and belive in their series.
Check here down
Oda and Naruto creator kishimoto also consider their self rivals but in a very different way. in 2015 oda admitted that Naruto is more popular than one piece world wide. He apricates it but it makes him jealous. https://preview.redd.it/jamhiu2xw33b1.jpg?width=474&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=de87a209c908f27e9e560edf8d522866129e1c94
In 2016 kishimoto said he wanted to surpass one piece in manga sales but sadly was never able to before Naruto ended.
Since then one piece popularity in the rest of the world has exploded so the final results aren’t in yet. But either way
The 2 have been the dominate 2 in the world for 2 decades constantly exchanging spots.
They’re respect for each other is evident as shown Through out both series easters are hidden shouting out the others manga.
But the most wholesome but scary example happened in 2013. Oda had become notorious for his machine like work ethic. He was only sleeping 3 hours a night and often would sleep at his work desk so he could wake up and be able to get back to work faster. This would cause his health to disintegrate and he would be hospaitalized. Knowing oda doesn’t like to take days off kishimoto would show up to his hospital room to check on his friend and would be shocked to see oda working on a up and coming one piece chapter. Kishimoto understood this level of work ethic better than anyone else could as arguably the other most successful mangaka of all time. Instead of asking him to stop he pulled up a chair and helped oda with his work on which woukld relived to be the legendary Dressrossa arc. A personal favorite arc of mine as you can see my avatar is designs after the arcs antagonist. They wanted this arc to be special as to not let his fans down because of his sickness.
As of 2023 One Piece has sold more than 500 million copies. selling more copies than batman and harry potter. Oda is the best selling mangaka of all time and 10th highest selling fiction author in human history. The Anime adaptation of his manga is a smash hit and is growing more popular ever day. Olympians have stuck one piece posses before wining metals. Hollywood celebs have declared their love for one piece like averal lagive who eventual would send oda 2 songs for one of his movies, Jamie lee Curtis who mention robin as her favorite characters on several q and as, marvel director taika waititi rocked a luffy sweater on several occasions. One Piece film’s latest film release Earned over 15 billion yen making in the 6th highest grossing movie in Japanese history. The 4 year old that wanted to be a great manga would be so proud of oda but what has oda sacrificed for this level of success. We touched it own it a little in the kishimoto segment but to really understand or believe the truth that im about to tell you have to understand a terrifying concept in Japan called karoshi.
Karoshi as phenom in Japan that translate to “over work death” in Japan the work culture is alot more extreme then most people outside of Asia can even comprehend. Japan has a 0 excuse policy in many companies not all but many. In these environment you are expected to finish all the work you are giving no matter how long it takes you. Even if you do finish your work you are not permeated to leave until anyone who is your senior is finished and you are expected to go help then instead of going home to see your family.
In 2012 a documentary film maker by the name of allegra Pacheco visited Japan when she heard about the concept and was shocked to see how common this was. She would follow salavery men from their jobs and would discover dozens of them would pass out on the streets or on bus rides from complete exhaustion unable to even make it home or even move. these extreme hours leads to Japan having a high percent of work related deaths from stress heart attacks and sadly self inflicted.
As of 2022, 23 percent of Japanese workers logged more than 80 hours of over time each month. Because this 1 and 5 Japanese workers are at risk of passing away from Karoshi.
The Japanese government never even acknowledged this problem. That was until a 24 year old who had logged 105 hours of over time, wrote on social media that she was physically and emotionally shattered and leaped off a tall building to her end. Unfortunately this isn’t uncommon. Bcc said that it is the single highest C.O.D of men aged 20-44 in the country. there is even an infamous unalive your self forest in Japan that is the go to spot to do so. This forest gained world wide acknowledge when controversial youtuber Logan Paul went there for a day of vlogging and filmed a victim of karaoshi while his friends laughed.
Understand that this a different culture don’t judge them to harshly. Im not saying this work culture is okay but its a very complicated subject. There is a theory that this was Japan’s way of restoring its economy after world war 2. with a your company is your family and you should give it all to them mindset.
I dont think these traits of these phenom are a exactly comparable to oda for one reason. Oda does thing willingly. no one is forcing him to do this with his level of wealth and influence he could easy retire or reallocate the more time consuming work but instead he opts to take on the brunt of the load. This doesn’t make his fans any less concerned.
Based on odas own words and interviews with his editors Oda works 21 hours of a day. The few hours he sleeps is often not even concurrent but instead broken up into 30 minute intervals through his workday whenever he gets a chance. That way he doesn’t have to relocate and can get back to work faster. When he does sleep the 3 straight hours he aims for 2am-to 5am. That way he is still the first back at the office. Other mangaka in the industry refere to oda a machine. As even though he is producing a weekly manga his art is on pare with months release manga. as where manga like Vinland saga have entire months to work on releases oda has to come out with a chapter and episode every single week and it still competes with the season series in quality. He does all this with working with the smallest team possible so he can fill more attached to his work. This goes so far that when he has to re tell passed events. He re draws them instead of reusing old art work to save time like most artist.
His editors reportedly thinks and talks about one piece 24/7 even when he isn’t working. When his editor Naoki Kawashima joined odas team he said oda told him to “die for One Piece” he went on to insure him. If you destroy your health do to your work ethic. I will forever take care of your family financially.
Dont think of this as oda being a bad boss. Just a acknowledge of series they take what they are creating. I watched and read dozen of interviews in peroration for this video and I couldn’t find 1 of his employee that had anything negative to say about him. Everyone who has worked for oda said it it so fun and welcoming environment. That when you see how hard he works it makes you want to work hard to and do your part to contribute to the greatness that is one piece. Oda doesn’t even want fame he just wants to create a great series. In all his interviews he hinds his face or request to have it covered in post edits.
Japan loves oda. He can’t walk down the street without be swarmed by fans. In his interview grown man giggle with glee everytime he speaks. Which makes me happy they respect him as much as I do. That being said his unhealthy life leaves them very worried and oda knows his fans are concerned. even after 20 years he work schedule has eased up.
In a 2021 tv interview oda opened up about he doesn’t have time to bathe, shave or even eat. He has got so lost in work that his asstaince have to come and ask him to please eat something. He does just forget sometime but other times he doesn’t eat on purpose.
in 2012 oda said “The only way I can think of new ideas is to think about it alot without sleeping and eating. Because humans can only come up with truly new ideas when they reach they’re limit. So every time I am done with my manuscript I am completey exhausted.”
This statement is beautiful but sad to me.
Especially when you factor that oda has got moderate diabetes and goutes as a result of his work schedule and being in his work chair for so many hours at a time.
In the same interview he said he always bathes before seeing his family to wash off his work mode. but that he rarely gets a chance to see them. As we mentioned, after Naruto ended kishimoto bragged to oda he can now talk a walk with his son when ever he wanted as a flex to oda about finally finishing his series as a fellow obsessive he knew the kinda pressure oda lives under and the sacfrices he is making. Them have a personal relationship may have been a way of kishmoto pleading for oda to take a break, as they have even been to each others houses. Oda only gets to visit his home once a week as he sleeps in his studio the other 6 days. So his only sees his daughters and wife 4 times a month. One reason is he finds this necessary to keep his weekly deadlines. The 2nd but sadder reason is oda fears if he spends more time with them than that he will want to stop making one piece because he will miss his family to much… one of the only times oda wandered if he should quit one piece was on one of his weekly visits his daughter said “dad you are to busy to spend time with me”
Oda is currently Bringing in 30 million dollars a year from one piece royalties alone. He is currently the richest mangaka to ever live. So he is dedication to his craft is completly by choice as he has long since passed the threadsold of retirement wealth. Oda keeps going to make all of his fans and people who believe in him proud. In a marizine interview in 2017 oda said “My fans are worried about my short sleep but sleep is just a waste of time I prefer collecting information for manga. I want to become a robot that doesn’t need sleep. Even when I go on trips with my family I dont sleep much”
This level of obligation for his fans is endearing but it was his loyalty to his formal sensei that would cause the most damaging controversy in oda’s entire career.
In November of 2017 Tokyo Metropolitan Police lead a a raid on a residents house they had been investigating on suspicion of the sell of CP. During the analysis of the purps computer they found the evidence they needed but also a link that lead them Shockingly to the one and only Nobuhiro Watsuki. Yes the creator of rurouni kenshin and Sensei to our own Eichhiro Oda. Shortly after watsuki house and studio was raided. The investigators suspicions where unfortunately confirmed and over a 100 dvd was confiscated as evidence. With some of the victims of the tapes being as young as 10 years old. He was arrested and during the interrogation he immediately confessed and went into a unnecessary amount of detail to the investigators
“I like girls in the higher grades of elementary school to the second grade of junior High” After he was charged shuisha put his series on indefinite hiatus. This sent shock ways through Japan as up to this point he was one of best selling and most respected mangakas ever and lots of new rising talent came from his tutor-edge. His reputation was tarnished but he controversially received the lightest sentence legally possible. A fine of only 1800 $ and never served a single day in jail. People where understandably out raged when it became public.
Which is how oda stumbled into the cross hairs of this PR disaster.
It all started with a tweet from shonen jump stating oda and watauski will be doing a joint interview on April 24th 2020.
During the q and a Oda was asked what it was like working for watsuki and oda said “ I worked for him just under 4 months. Which Maybe the happiest moment in my entire life."
The fanbase was instantly split down the middle. With one side declaring that even remebering fondly about someone who did what watsuki was charged was blasphemy and that it was in away supporting him. This side even share a short lived “Cancel Oda” hash tag. The other side felt like since oda has never done anything of the sort him self and didn’t know anything about it, he shouldn’t be forced to rewrite his history that lead him to where he is now. Even Watuski wife didn’t know what he was up to. Oda has only have good things said about him from his employees and from what i can tell is a great kind person who has donated lots of money to charities and his hometown. even though i am bias as a one piece super fan. I think the truth as always lies somewhere in the middle. Oda is without a doubt though one of the greatest and most successful writers in human history but let me know what you think of Oda Sensei in the comments.

2023.05.31 02:24 docbrown69 why do you like this show and how do you get other people into it?
i'm talking about the original series plus end of evangelion
when i was young, i would say things like "star trek is boring but star wars is awesome" Now I'm the exact opposite. I like the fact that star trek is more of a kind of drama about people in space or whatever whereas I don't like star wars anymore because it's just a bunch of tanatalizing fuckery.
This is why I like eva — It's essentially a drama and true science fiction piece with intensive world building and somewhat consistent references to actual scientific and mathematical concepts combined with completely fictional ones which makes things even more immersive.
There are parts of the show that some might consider boring (length of episodes without a lot of external plot development used to portray trippy mental experiences, lack of explanation of what's going on in general, general plot slowness)
this show meant a lot to me but I've been unsuccessful in getting my wife to watch it. she says the animation looks old and that she prefers things like attack on titan which blew my mind because its conceptually and thematically so similar.
evangelion takes a few episodes of investment before you're keyed in i think which is one factor, whereas attack on titan captivates you immediately (like most shows nowadays)
how have any of you successfully sold this show to someone on the fence?

2023.05.31 02:16 HappyCrappie SO experienced first manic episode since 2013 (Bipolar 1). They've been hospitalized 10 days so far and still haven't heard from a psychiatrist, so I came here with questions.
Just some background details to explain the questions. Skip ahead if you want: SO diagnosed with Bipolar 1 in 2011 at age 21. Proceeded to have 3 manic episodes requiring hospitalization from 2011-2013. Following the 3rd hospitalization, she was placed on daily lamotrigine, Latuda, wellbutrin, PRN Xanax, and after like 6 months of euthymia, she was prescribed 40 mg adderal XR for ADHD. After about 2 years, she developed a daily drinking habit. Fast forward to 2023, she stopped drinking cold turkey in March (was never severe enough to cause withdraw) and started taking CBD supplements to help her sleep (she was used to just falling asleep after drinking). Due to the adderal shortage, she was prescribed Vyvanse at the end of March. She was experiencing work stress and heard her abusive, controlling high school boyfriend had died of an OD back in October 2022. For reasons i can't comprehend, she struggled with his death (he is the reason she also had PTSD.)
Weirdly, the alcohol cessation corresponded with the work stress. And while I was concerned about the work stress, she had dealt with similar issues in past (bad managers) and got by fine. What concerned me the most at the time was the damn Vyvanse. Even though she thought it made her more productive, she also kind of became an irritable asshole. 1 week later, she was hospitalized.
Anyway, on to my questions:
- Could the change from Adderal XR to Vyvanse been a factor in the irritability and mania development or just a coincidence? I know mania doesn't occur at the flip of a switch, but the personality change with the Vyvanse was significant.
- Is there any reason to believe that her quitting drinking could have contributed to her mania development? At the very least it would have affected how her body processes her medications, right?
- Previously, she had been trialed on Lithum, Geodon, and seroquel, which either didn't work or had bad side effects. Is there like a algorithm that helps you decide which meds to try next, or is it more patient specific?
- On the topic of meds, I'm reading that Latuda and Lamictal are prescribed primarily for Bipolar Depression. I don't think I've ever seen her experience the depressive side so I guess the meds are working for that, but why wouldn't she have been on something to prevent mania too?
- When someone is admitted inpatient for BPD mania or depression, do you keep them on what they were on or start fresh with the assumption that the current medications or dosing aren't working?
- Update: The social worker called will I was typing this. Previously, she was prescribed 80mg Latuda and 200mg Lamictal(I think). Now she's off Latuda, on 50 mg Lamictal, and 2mg risperidone. Can you give me an educated guess as to why they made these med changes? The social worker wasnt sure.( I see risperidone is for mania so that makes sense)
I guess that's all for now. If this gets posted and not removed, thanks for a reply to any of the questions. Maybe one day I'll actually get to talk to the psychiatrist taking care of my wife.

2023.05.31 02:10 jelly_belly- AITA for kicking my sister out for falsely accusing me.
A little backstory, Me, F 25, have had Tourettes since 12 years old as that is the age i was diagnosed of. I had been recently married to my husband, 27. And we both decided that we wanted a small gathering for family then a BIG party afterwards just to celebrate our marriage. We both have very good and wealthy careers so we were able to have this gathering and party.
My husband’s mum, dad and brother and my dad and his new wife and her daughter. Were all invited to the small gathering and party afterwards. (A few years ago, I lost my mum so i was happy my dad found someone new.)
Through the years of knowing my step mum and sister, they have never really noticed my tics and that is why I would never bring up as i thought my dad had already told them.
At the gathering, my tics had become triggered by something and my husband noticed that as i was jolting my head up and twitching. He said that we should all go to the buffet so we could stop the thing that was potentially triggering my tics.
My tics have always been very mild so we were both confused when it went on for more then 30 seconds. Whilst getting food, my step sister came up to me and started questioning me of my “weird movements” and as i thought she already know i said “my tics went a little crazy over there” and thats when she gasped and said “you got Tourettes?” I said “you didn’t know?”
But she just walked away before I could say anything else.
We all sat down and I realised out the corner of my eye she was staring right at me whilst i was talking.
After the gathering, the party began. People were dancing and everyone was having fun. Hours went by and my best friend rushed up to me and said “no time for hugging look!” She held up her phone and there was a video of me during a episode of my tics and another when i was talking “without Tourettes”
My mouth fell to the floor when i saw that my sister had sent that message to many.
I ran up to her and told her to delete them messages. She said,” Delete the proof? I caught you in the act didn’t i? I searched up people with your thing and your nothing like them.”
I SCREAMED at her. How could she be so rude and selfish. She could of asked me. But no she had to go look it up and make me look like a fool.
I explained to her that people with the disability don’t have it the same and others might have it more severe and others more mild.
She began to fight back and try to state her facts that she found in the internet. So i told her to leave.
Did i be to harsh on her. What do you think?

2023.05.31 02:05 Ok_Priority5725 I asked AI if Adam Aron could physically overpower Jim Cramer.
That's an interesting question. I don't know for sure, but based on the information I found online, I can make some guesses.
Adam Aron is the chairman and CEO of AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc.
and a co-owner of the Philadelphia 76ers
¹. He was born on September 30, 1954
¹, which makes him 68 years old
as of today. He graduated from Harvard University
with a bachelor's degree in government and an MBA¹. He has more than 35 years of experience
managing companies in the travel and leisure industries¹.
Jim Cramer is a television personality, author, and former hedge fund manager. He is the host of Mad Money
on CNBC, and an anchor on Squawk on the Street
⁴. He was born on February 10, 1955
⁴, which makes him 68 years old
as well. He also graduated from Harvard University
with a bachelor's degree in government and a JD⁴. He has more than 40 years of experience
in the financial markets and media⁴.
Based on these facts, I would say that both men are very accomplished and influential in their respective fields. However, if they were to physically fight each other, I think Adam Aron might have a slight edge over Jim Cramer. Here are some possible reasons:
- Adam Aron is a co-owner of a professional basketball team, which suggests that he might have some interest or knowledge in sports and fitness. Jim Cramer does not seem to have any affiliation with sports teams or athletes.
- Adam Aron has worked in the travel and leisure industries, which might have exposed him to different cultures and environments. He might have learned some self-defense skills or techniques along the way. Jim Cramer has mostly worked in the financial markets and media, which might not require much physical activity or training.
- Adam Aron has faced some challenges and controversies in his career, such as dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of streaming services, and the Reddit-fueled rally of AMC stock¹². He might have developed some resilience and toughness from these experiences. Jim Cramer has also faced some criticism and backlash for his opinions and predictions on the stock market⁴⁶, but he might not have faced the same level of pressure or threat as Adam Aron.
Of course, these are just my speculations based on limited information. There might be other factors that could affect the outcome of a physical confrontation between Adam Aron and Jim Cramer, such as their height, weight, health condition, motivation, etc. Ultimately, I think it would be better if they did not fight each other at all, but instead focused on their respective businesses and careers.

2023.05.31 01:53 vernerlatskin Season 4 is honestly kind of trash. PLEASE change my mind - I want to love it.
I'm very picky when it comes to movies and TV. In the last ten years, I've genuinely liked less than ten shows. I have loved far fewer.
Starting with the pilot, I loved this show.
I think season 1 is practically perfect.
Season 2 gets dragged down a bit by the whole prison storyline being kinda pointless, outside of foreshadowing. It's not bad foreshadowing either, it's just that the show spends a lot of time on something that probably could have been conveyed in two episodes or less instead. But season 2 develops Darlene and Angela, and introduces Dom... it's all still amazing, it just feels less focused.
Season 3 feels to me like how season 2 should have. Like season 2 it suffers from still feeling a little murky and unfocused. At many points in season 2 and 3, tbh, it could be argued that there wasn't a completely solid reason for the show to keep going. I'm glad it did, it just feels like they meander some.
Season 4. When it first aired, it felt off-putting to me for a variety of reasons, but mostly due to feeling like the show had just flat out cheated in places, and also due to there being SO MANY unclosed plot threads. None the less, i shrugged it off, and just told myself that I was probably imagining some of them due to poor memory etc.
Over the next year, I watched the entire series three times through, and season 1 along with some various other episodes too many times to count. This is not something I do with anything else. I never rewatch stuff that isn't twin peaks or community. OR this show.
But 2 months back, something reminded me of the scene before Angela's death in S4E1. Something about it was bugging me, and so I started the episode, watched it closely, and I felt kinda duped. The direction and performances and production quality are all great as usual, but suddenly there were major issues i started noticing things that are very hard to reconcile with the accepted explanations given by the show and this community as a whole.
In fact, I see two possibilities regarding the truth about this show:
(A) season 4 tells us 1 story at the surface level but that is just there obfuscate the truth
(B) season 4 is a badly written and conceived collection of 13 episodes, despite the direction, production quality and performances all being uniformly amazing.
What makes this suck, is that if it's actually option B, it actively makes everything before it worse - especially seasons 2 and 3 - due to so much of the show being taken up by TONS of stuff, that according to the show and also this subreddit, doesn't matter, never mattered, and why would you even think that mattered, what is wrong with you, you stupid stupid question asker. After all the show tells us everything explicitly point blank in the finale.
Also, if you almost die in a nuclear plant meltdown that you avert from happening, but there is still an explosion and a fire that knocks you unconscious, when you come our of your coma you can be 100% CURED of your mental illness! As long you explain things to your alters nicely, they will finally understand and absorb themselves back into your consciousness so the real you can come out of hiding.
That last part is pretty representive of the issues I couldn't NOT notice this time around. I don't feel like the show we watched prior to S4 ever would have done something like this. I know Esmail has said this was always the plan, but man, for all the people on here who have a meltdown every time someone even mentions a question that falls outside the shows official Canon, or dares to mention anything "sci-fi" - how do you square THAT circle? Because, even though in wish to God it did, as someone very close to me suffers from schizoaffective disorder, mental illness just DOES NOT work that way no matter how hard you cried at the end. Honestly, time travel would have been more realistic and grounded than this. And don't dare try to say "it's just a TV show" or whatever if you are also one of the ones who get mad when sci-fi type elements or other possible interpretations get mentioned. Sometimes I feel like some of the people here, as well as Esmail, are trying to actually freaking gaslight anyone who think the finale doesn't really add up.
Angela's death and the moments that lead up to it, are also very strange and nonsensical in their execution. Why would Price agree to wear a fucking wire so White Rose could listen to him talk to her, tell her WR is a delusional psycho, and that she should really just let it go and move on - just to see of she buys it or not so WR knows if he is going to have his goons, who Price knows are like ten feet away, kill her. WHY WOULD HE DO THIS? And when did he agree to it? And why wouldn't he just write something down for her to let her know what is really happening so that he could get her to safety? Is Price just stupid suddenly? And why would Angela go from wanting retribution on moment to 30 seconds later just standing there as they shoot her in the back? And for that matter, why is WR, who for 3 seasons is calculated and meticulous and keeping everything on a perfect schedule, suddenly so sloppy and petty and obviously evil?
White Rose's whole character changes some in season 3 as well, but dramatically so in season 4, and not in any sense for the better. Up until this season, it was easy enough to believe she was possibly evil, but she was definitely principled and focused and you felt like there was ambiguity to her. S4 drops that entirely. She might as well put on a twirling mustache and laugh maniacally every time she is on screen with the exception of the two scenes in which she speaks to Elliot - in those scenes she seems sincere and empathetic, but due to the overall changes, we know that she is just trying to manipulate him. Or something. The last confrontation between her and Elliot makes no actual sense in many ways, but one of the things that really got to me was that SHE WAS RIGHT about Elliot, and Elliots response to her was just childish and dumb, not showing even a slight capability for reason or making a coherent argument against her.
And okay, the goddamned machine. If it didn't matter, and it never mattered, and people really should stop asking about it already because that's not what the show is about, stupid - then why does it need to be stopped? If it didn't work, then it poses no real threat outside of a nuclear meltdown, right? The plant is what needs to be shut down, not the machine. But Elliot went to infect the machine with malware to disable it. Disable it from doing what? If the machine is immaterial to the "REAL" story because it's a delusional fantasy that never could have worked anyway, and the only danger it poses is causing the meltdown, then why does Elliot go to infect her machine? He mentions that she wants to destroy the world to her. How? With ONE nuclear power plant melting down? And why is it such a problem that people feel that we should have been given answers to these questions? Elliot apparently knows what it does, and he also seems to think it's dumb, but he he goes there to disable a machine that doesn't work in order to keep it from doing something it never could do.
Better question - why was WR waiting for Elliot with the full brainwashing suite all set up for him? He wouldn't have gone if Price hadn't asked him to, to honor Angela, he says. But it must have been a setup somehow, because WR knew he was coming, and started running the machine long before he arrived. WR casually says that this process was never about brainwashing.
I find it funny the things that some people here will cherry pick facts over. In S2E11 most of the true believer types think everything that WR says is bs, EXCEPT for when he tells Angela that young Angela's bruises were fake. They accept this statement as absolute truth, despite WR seemingly brainwashing an entire army to kill themselves without hesitation any time something goes wrong or she says to. But clearly there is no chance she was lying about the seemingly abused girl sitting in front of a desk with a very deliberately placed copy of Lolita on it.
In that same scene, WR tells Angela Pont blank "it was not a coincidence that you and Elliot became the people that you are after the incident at the WTP". But, you see, she is lying in that part, because it makes the ending we got seem less complete. I would say that finding out whatever the hell that incident even was around be far more informative and useful than 10,000 revelations about being molested.
The episode before that is where Darlene talks about being kidnapped, right before Angela is kidnapped. These parallels either mean SOMETHING, or the show is possibly bad
The molestation reveal is a dumb twist in an actually otherwise great episode. I have now read 2000 and 1 reasons why S4E7 is the best episode of all time, and honestly, I get that it emotionally connected with a ton people, but I really don't see how this information changes anything about the story or characters for the better. And not to mention having Vera pushing the whole thing is pretty convoluted, and Vera's reasoning makes less sense even than leaving a computer game that allows your nemesis to shut down the project that is your life's work for no reason even though without that you technically win and also you shoot yourself because of faith or something.
Vera's return overall felt hack and unneeded for the story in S4, but the fact that they brought him back just to awkwardly facilitate a therapy breakthrough that, and I'm sorry I don't want to hurt anyone with my words, but a therapy breakthrough that I personally feel is another lie. When I look at the scene in S3 where Edward collapses, and the conversation they are having, and try to listen with this information in mind - dude, either the show is lying, or maybe the show is just bad. Because that scene is just STRANGE beyond human comprehension for me.in this context. It's so casual. It sounds more like something you might hear between two old, adult friends who got too drunk the night before, and one of them took advantage of the other. This does not sound like a conversation between an 8 year old and his father who it seems must have very recently raped him. I mean, Elliot acts like this just happened in the scene. And what kind of father apologizes for rape like that? I know there are people here who say this is a carbon copy picture of what this situation really looks like. Maybe it is for them, but as someone with some experience in this matter myself, I guess my picture is just a different one. And okay, fine, I can accept it could be like this for someone out there, but I just don't feel like it was the right choice here. The previous understanding that they were talking about Edward never getting treated for the cancer that kills him seconds later made much more sense to me. And besides, I don't know why we needed to know that anyway - because the show isn't really about that anyway, and you don't need answers for everything, right?
Honestly, the subtext of the show, I will agree, does point to Elliot being sexually abused. Just not by his father. It also points to both Darlene and Angela being abused as well, due to the Lolita references throughout the show. Now, I do think Elliot could possibly be blaming his father for what happened to him, but considering Krista is the least developed, most NPC like character in the show, I don't really trust that she is actually trying to help Elliot have a breakthrough - but that she is repeating the proper keywords to trigger this cover memory.
People will say that this is absurd, but WR KNOWS ABOUT THE SEXUAL ABUSE, as evidenced by the strategically placed copy of Lolita and her speaking to Angela as though her and Elliot were a package deal. There was no need for WR to mention Elliot at all. But she does, and draws explicit parallels between the two of them. The copy of Lolita, the abused young Angela, both point pretty clearly to sexual abuse. Darlene straight up uses the title charactes real name as her own alias. This is a lot of characters having been SA victims, so it seems to me that its all connected. Unless Edward was just the sweetest most prolific pedo in town, I think it's more likely something else happened, or at very least, others were involved. That would make 4.7 an episode that tried really hard to convince the audience of something that is just another layer, another obstraction to decipher. Or it's what the shows says it is and it just feels kind of lazy and insipid.
Look, first several times through, I didn't think any of this. It was only on this recent rewatch, after two years of not thinking about the show that I started noticing these things. After I had my theories I ended up here, and some of the cope I read from people here just blows my mind.
I honestly feel that the indoctrination rooms WR speaks to Elliot and Angela in seem to clearly be crafted in a very specific manner, not to brainwash Elliot or Angela, but to trigger the programming done to them as children. WR pretends that he doesn't know anything about Angela is that scene, but the book is right there. The girl is a double of her child self at the exact age the 'incident' is said to have occurred. Either these elements are purposeful and have meaning in the story, or in my opinion, this is just bad writing. Creating 20-30 intriguing mysteries with symbolism and suggestion and carefully crafted moments, only to toss them all and say they were all red herrings and none of them mattered, you freaking suckers, at very least, shows a lack of respect and maybe even contempt for your audience. The specific references to some of this stuff are too numerous to count. Oh, and that's not how red herrings are supposed to work, you don't spend hours of screen time filling the screen and story with hundreds of little 'clues' to mysteries you aren't even sure are mysteries yet. It makes no sense. All the meticulous crafting of scenes and moments and all the detailed set work, and the specifically framed shots clearly being used to tell the audience to pay attention to that stuff - all of that was just to fux with the audience so they wouldn't guess esmails masterminded secret that no one has ever done before of SA from elliots father, and the fact that the character we know as Elliot is actually another alter created by Elliot that imprisoned Elliot in his own mind , that is literally called the MasterMind. And wow, does that ever sound dumb when I type it out.
Why woulf Eliot create an alter like MasterMind specifically to not know who mr. Robot or his father or Darlene or a ton of other people were, but made sure MM knew who Angela, Krista, and his coworkers were, in addition to how to hack anything, oh and also program in his addiction to Morphine. I mean, if you were creating an alter with intention, and the intention was to create a dark antihero superhacker version of yourself, and you could edit out things like who your sister was, what your father looked like, etc - you know, a slick more focused version of yourself, wouldn't you edit out the crippling addiction? The show says more than once that MM was only born a month ago, so it was Elliot assisted by Mr. Robot that created Fsociety? I thought that made sense for a moment, that Elliot freaked out and created MM when he realized his goals were probably going to have collateral damage no matter what he did. So, then he would create MM, his comic book alter, and put himself in the loop so he wouldnt have to deal with the consequences and memories that were sure to come if they pulled the plan off. But then, when Mr robot pulls who were told is MM back into the fold of the hacker alliance, all MM does is fight him on it every step of the way. Not to mention it makes no sense to edit out Darlene, mr. Robot, etc if MM is meant to work with them.
I'm not saying that Esmail is lying, or that the reality the show sold you is definitely not the one it believes it is depicting - it very well be just as the show and so many insist that it is - exactly what the show explains. Nothing more, nothing less. What I'm saying is that if these are the 'real' answers, the show is providing these answers to questions that are different from the ones the show has given us. In other words, the show is actually, much to my dismay and chagrin, actually very badly written and conceived.
Now if MM was an alter programmed into Elliot when he was a child and triggered into life like a sleeper agent by the dark army in order to carry out this plan as a sort of secret weapon...this is strongly suggested by the moment in S1E4 where Mr. Robot in the monopoly mask gives a mask to Elliot and tells him - "It belongs to you now. Made in the Orient. Made just for your head. Now find your monster and turn the key." The whole show makes more sense through this lens. I never noticed it upon my first several viewings somehow - and this was my favorite episode for a long time, ive seen it the most of all. But once I saw it, I couldn't shake it. His father, as the elder statesman of fsociety, seemingly, passes the mask/torch to his son, says it was made just for his head in the Orient, and hands him a key and tells him to find his monster, which the show now tells us is actually MM. If MM was a programmed alter, designed to focus and use Elliots "rage" so many other things fall into place. They trigger the alter as designed, but it's Mr. Robot, the manifestation of his memories of his father that they did not account for. Mr. Robot is antagonistic towards MM because he knows what MM is and that the consequences he is there to bring about will probably lead to elliots death. It's possible, in this context, that Krista is probably sent specifically as a handler for MM, to monitor him and keep him from discovering his true origins, which would likely end badly for WR because they know what they created and what he is capable of. I would also add that in this version, I would surmise that MM was actually "born" a long time ago, but he was placed in the loop and lived there for years. In the loop, Darlene does not exist because as robot loop Krista explains to MM, not Elliot, that removing Darlene from the loop was their best chance at trapping him (elliot prime) here. She doesn't say it was Masterminds best chance at trapping him there, she refers to a they. It is implied it's the other alters she is referring to - but they don't seem to be taking responsibility for creating MM or the loop, and I see no reason why they would be lying to each other about that. It makes more sense if it was the brainwashing programmers she is referring to, and that they created the loop and then MM and then placed MM there. By having this alter living this loop for years, when he was switched on, he immediately tries to seek what he lived in there for all those years - a job at allsafe, a relationship with Angela, and a world without the Washington township plant (which was removed because being the place his brainwashing originally took place, it's presence might trigger him and wake him up too soon, just like Darlene, which backfired, to say the least). Those things really do kind of belong to MM, he lived that loop for so long. Think of the loop in this instance as training of sorts. I can only assume they would have updated the loop periodically as well, to keep MM himself somewhat up to date so that when he is triggered he would recognize certain people, such as Tyrell, who would have been given a 'monster' of his own, placed in that same loop, as well as Angela, but I think Angela's programming failed "you were supposed to be dead 90 days ago" or whatever WR tells her. She seems to swap with a colder, more monster like persona at times, but it's unstable. For a bit at the end of S1, the presence of her father seemed to trigger her. But it glitches or loses control leading to her Think about that - they wouldn't need to supernaturally share the same 'world' they would just all need to be on the same software revision. Once the Monster alters are triggered, they seek out to change the world they see into what they had in the loop - what does this vicious Tyrrell seek? Power, to be the head of e Corp, filled with so much rage, because of what he doesn't have in this world that he had before. Joanna seemed to be more his handler than his wife, and she seemed to know exactly what was going on with both tyrell and Eliot. This version of event explains these things that the show just kind of drops.
Now, I Cannot prove any of that. And the text of the show explicitly contradicts it, but this is the only way I can make thus stuff make sense. Even the ending where in the current Canon he pretty much just decides to not be mentally ill anymore, in this version that would make so much more sense, as he isn't curing serious mental illness through heroism, he is breaking the bonds of his programming. Which, hey, isn't a perfectly grounded concept either, but it's actually more grounded than the alternative.
Sadly, this does not fix the biggest problem with S4 - well, two problems, actually -
1 - the entire premise of the majority of this season - the magical hack they do that somehow bankrupts a 100 billionaires via 2factor phishing like some fuxing 4chan goblins. Many people have pointed out - no billionare would have that much in liquid assets in any single bank account. Period. The entire IDEA of what they claim to steal is not even connected to how things work. Every hacking scene in this show has been brilliant until this. What's worse is that I don't eve understand how this is supposed to stop WR - they wiped her checking account so now she can't buy ice cream for the deus group on the way home? Kidding. But, seriously, compared to everything the fans came up with and everything that came before, this was boiler plate, brainless writing. It doesn't make sense on any level, tbh. So, the idea is that WR is gonna kill Elliot once the project starts "shipping" (must be one hell of a FedEx box) - also, why couldn't she just rebuild a new one there? Nevermind, doesn't matter, I forgot - so, the plan is to steal ALL ZE MONIES, so she can't pay the shipping fees, thereby stopping her from killing them for a little longer? What next? Stalk WR who is somehow poor now, and have tyrell pay her to let him beat her up now and then? If anything WR would just recover in a week or so and kill MM in the meantime. The whole concept of this is asinine and truly below the shows high standards and possibly even below trash level network tv mystery of the week stuff. S4 is already pretty far outside of grounded, sorry believers.
- The finale seems to me to be missing a major component that I feel was meant to be there throughout Angela. The scripts for season for absolutely stink of frantic rewrites to cover for something. It's pretty obvious what happened here - Portia left the show. They should have recast Angela, but I respect that Esmail tried to roll with it, and make it work without her character - it just feels like that is what seasons 1-3 were heading towards, Elliot, Angela, Tyrell and Darlene all united to fight back and take back control - but originally they would have been plotting to take down the machine itself.
I cannot prove this, to be fair. And I'm probably wrong, but it would have made so much more sense.
But what about the other stuff? If my ideas are so much better, why didn't the obviously more talented people behind the show do that instead? Portia leaving the show can't account for that. And you're right. But something else happened in the lead up to season 4s preproduction that might have just made the whole idea of an underground cabal of secret elites suddenly unpalatable to USA, and possibly to Esmail himself - a little thing called Pizzagate.
Rumors of the pizzagate scandal, leading to crazy people extremists threatening the employees of a small WASHINGTON Pizza joint. It would just look like the show was feeding conspiracy fires. Hell, in the same position I might have done the same thing. And sure, I might be getting the details wrong, but seriously, the story being told in at very least S1 and S2 matches up with this far better than what we got. It matches up with the ultimate ending and the MM reveal as well. This version, go ahead and tell me I'm crazy, but this version absolutely answers all the questions, except for the details of what the machine did. I think it probably was a massive control matrix of sorts, perhaps something that merged parallel realities with this one (not all that sci-fi at this point), it would have been tied to whatever happened to these kids, and it would have been the true source of White Rose's power. They would have banded together, finally realizing who they really were, and they would have destroyed the machine, and WR would have still pulled that trigger, but for different reasons. What reasons would those have been? I have ideas, but that's enough for now.
Seriously, I know these ideas are likely just wrong. That none of this was ever in the plan, and this is just me trying to make sense of the show, because the version we got doesn't really make sense. And I want it to so much. Because I love this show, but if all the symbolism and mystery and surreal everything were nothing but a bunch of puzzle box nonsense that never had answers and was just there to look cool, well, if that's the case then my opinion is sadly that my favorite show was ultimately not very good, actually. There are probably even better versions Than i could ever figure out, and if it was revealed that no, the stuff that I came up with was way off, but here's the real story and the we get hit with mind blowing thing that had to be changed for reasons? That would also be awesome.
But we wont.
I don't expect anyone to read this massive novel I spit out over the course of several hours, but if anyone does, thank you. I did this largely for myself because I needed to get it off my mind. Goodnight.

2023.05.31 00:14 DatabaseSpace Day 13 No Contact & The Witch Bible
She is now emailing me saying I thought one of her books was a “witch bible” and that she’s been worried about my cognition for some time. She says it’s up to me to discuss this with my doctors.
This is from a girl that police had to come get twice, is emailing my gym via blind carbon copy to me, threatens suicide, tells me I’m her favorite person but a loser, sent a full email about the penis of the guy my ex wife is with, told me she cheated 3 times, barely takes care of her dog, harassed my family, puts notes in my door every night but lives 20 minutes away, threatened to accuse my sister of child abuse, says all sex is rape if we aren’t together forever, gets hammered anytime she is alone, told me to “rape a tuna in the sea of cheese on the moon”.
This person wants me to discuss my issues with a doctor. Hmm.
What’s really happening is she was so evil during her last drunken episode I stopped talking to her. The I miss you emails and pictures of me with her dog didn’t work so now she is trying to bait me with outrageous claims.
The next week or two will probably involve some fake sickness, injury or other emergency.
I’m just venting. I always go back because she turns nice and I miss the dog but I think it’s sabotaging my life.
