EFC Rebuild
I started a new save with Everton a little bit ago and have just finished my first season. My aim for this was to take all the best players out of Everton and send them to league 2. Since we are in a serious financial situation I thought it would be good to do this. It has also been to finally give a chance to those young players who never get used really.
The season went as you would expect with an easy league title but there have been a lot off players that have surprised me like Warrington and Astley as they don't have the highest potential. I have also made a couple off small transfers like Goh Young Jun who have been amazing. This is not supposed to be a realistic save, but one to try and see how far I get with the original prospects of Everton.
Any suggestions for transfers in the next season would be nice.

On doordash orders you guys request, are you taking some of the tip? Been wondering about this for a while now .
Also, why the hell are the orders never ready when you’re the ones requesting the pickup?

I am an international student in Berlin. I ordered one phone online. Delivery option was hermes. So i selected near by hermes shop so that i can collect it after my working hours. Today I visited hermes shop to get my delivery, this old guy rejected me because my full surname is not there. My surname contains two names for example Full name is : John Lucas Thomas. Surname is Lucas Thomas and in the packet surname is Thomas only. I tried to explain it but he was rude to me. Is this obvious?

[FM 22. Curzon Ashton] 24. Season #8 28/29. A solid ground
Hello FM Community!
I am finishing the season with Curzon Ashton and my challenge is finally started: all my players are our own youngsters or trained in the club 3+ years before their 21.
Here is my intro (and posts archive at the end):
[FM 22. Curzon Ashton] 1. My new career and old-new challenge.
Previous chapter:
[FM 22. Curzon Ashton] 23. Season #7 27/28. Here we go again
We finished 8th in the Sky Bet League One, won Papa John's Trophy (made from pizza for sure) and are looking in the bright future!

Results

A big slap by Hull gave us good motivation on the start.
Pretty good November, with only one lose in 9 games (easy schedule, huh?) and big drop next month.
Not so bad January, not so good February, and awful last two months, excluding pizza-cup.
As a result, we fell out from playoff zone. But anyway, this is the highest club place in history.
Not the best attacking season from us, but for this level pretty good, I guess.
Our defending play as usual is not good, but even with that we got the result.

Transfers In

To be honest, this season is one of the best for me from the start of this save. We brought some pretty good kids, and they dived into the squad flawlessly.
  • Ally Shannon (M (LC), ST) - 17y.o. from Man City for free.
    • Hardworking attacking player with decent technical skills, but it didn't become a limit for him to reach great stats this season.
  • Alexander Stone (AM (R)) - 18y.o. from Southampton for free.
    • Fast and agile winger with good technique. Played a big part of games, but missed almost a half of the season due to injuries.
  • Gabriel Bashir (AM (RL), ST) - 18y.o. from Burnley for free.
    • Hardworking dribbler. Played a half of games normally.
  • Kevin East (M (C)) - 18y.o. from Bournemouth for free.
    • Well-balanced box-to-box with great passing. Played a half of games pretty well.
  • Yaw Mensah (D (C)) - 18y.o. from Southampton for free.
    • 202cm of great jumping and tackling. Played pretty good in one-third of games.
  • Alex Evans (AM (RL), ST) - 18y.o. from Man City for free.
    • Fast and Furious brave attacking player. Played some games in a decent way.
  • Paul Gallagher (M/AM (R)) - 18y.o. from West Ham for free.
    • Fast and agile winger. Played some games not so good.
  • Eddie Hadley (M/AM (R)) - 18y.o. from Everton for free.
    • Fast and agile winger. Didn't play for the Senior squad.
  • Craig Cole (D (RLC)) - 18y.o. from Man City for free.
    • Smart defender with good jumping. Didn't play for the Senior squad.
  • Andrew O'Hanlon (D (R), DM, M/AM (C)) - 18y.o. from Man UFC for free.
    • Smart universal midfielder. Didn't play for the Senior squad.
  • Nick O'Hanlon (M (RC), AM (R)) - 18y.o. from Tottenham for free.
    • Fast and agile universal midfielder. Didn't play for the Senior squad.
  • Jayden Jones (GK) - 18y.o. from Oxford for free.
    • Sweeping keeper with good potential. Didn't play for the Senior squad.

Ally Shannon 30(4) as M(L), ST 18 2 20 7.00 5

Paul Gallagher 0(4) as AM(R) 0 0 0 6.65 0

Transfers Out

Not big deals, but big amount:
  • Mark Kerr (D (RL), DM, M/AM (C)) - 18y.o. to Millwall for 275K + bonuses.
    • Mark is our own youngster. He played very good last season (even was top-4 of the club by average rating), but on the start of this season his attributes dropped extremely fast.
  • Rhys Thompson (GK) - 24y.o. to Huddersfield for 9K.
    • Rhys was bought for 12K from Shrewsbury 6 seasons ago. Sometimes he was our #1 almost full season, sometimes he played really a few games. But this season he played nothing, because our Andy McDermott played all 61/61.
  • And 5 our own youngsters, which never played for the Senior squad, summed for 160K + bonuses.

Mark Kerr 35(8) as D(RL), M (C) 4 7 11 7.21 5
Rhys Thompson 137 as GK -214 0 0 6.94 1

Released

I never did this part, but this season we lost our legend, Matty Waters. So I decided to add it. More than, after all my tries to bring him back (the answer always was "I want a new challenge"), he spent this season as a free agent and finally retired from football at 31. And for me, this is a huge pity, because I would be happy to bring him back as a staff member.
Also, Max Woodcock, one of our first purchases and our biggest spending yet (16.75K), decided to leave. He retired as well.

2023.06.09 09:02 Local_Victory1000 Location 35 Timeline

Hello! I've been stalking this sub a lot recently. Reading other timelines gave me hope, so I decided to make my first post and share my experience with Locator 35. I became a naturalized citizen on May 9 and submitted a first time passport application on the same day with expedited processing and 1-2 day shipping.
Date of travel: June 27
I never got a response from Sen. John Cornyn's office after the inquiry was made, so I'm not entirely sure if contacting his office helped expedite the process but doesn't hurt to try if you're in Texas.
I didn't see my status change to "Shipped" like others have mentioned, so I never got a tracking number. I didn't see any updates on my USPS Informed Delivery, so I signed up for UPS My Choice and saw that I had a package on the way. I definitely recommend signing up for USPS Informed Delivery and UPS My Choice!
So grateful that this process is almost over. Good luck to everyone, I hope it works out for all of you!

2023.06.09 03:12 pbndoats My pizza had no sauce

I came home after a particularly long day at work this evening. Was too tired to make dinner, so I went on the Papa John’s app to order a pizza.
To my delight, the pizza was ready in less than 10 minutes. Immediately after receiving the notification that it was ready, I unquestionably picked up the pizza and took it home.
To my dismay, I realized that I accidentally selected the “no sauce” option when I ordered the pizza, and, upon realizing my grave mistake, I unleashed my wrath of anger out on the pizza box. I literally pounded the pizza box into a pancake.
Anyways, despite just beating the living shit out of the pizza I had just ordered, I was still hungry, so I drove to walmart to pick up some marinara to dip my room-temperature pizza in. Why the fuck is there a “no sauce” option anyways? It’s not even a fucking pizza at that point, it’s just cheese bread!

Is it just me and my local dominos or do the hot wings have a chemical taste? I called them about it like 2 months ago and they said sorry we don't know why. I figured they were on a surface that had been cleaned. They gave me a store credit and that settled it. Ordered again last night and exact same taste. Called again and was told they switched something and that was just the taste. Will be using papa johns going forward if that's the case.

Order-Taking Services: Unleash the Power of E-commerce Success

In the fast-paced world of e-commerce, your business’s heartbeat lies in the order-taking process — a vital connection between your customers and the products they crave. To ensure your online retail operation thrives, you need efficient and accurate order-taking services that guarantee customer satisfaction, foster loyalty, and drive long-term growth. Join us on a journey through the intricacies of order taking services, as we explore their essential components, the advantages of outsourcing, and real-life examples of exceptional and subpar experiences. Get ready to optimize your order-taking process and elevate your business to unprecedented heights, as we uncover the secret weapon for e-commerce success.

Understanding the Essence of Order-Taking Services

Order-taking services encompass the systems and procedures that manage customer orders from initial inquiry to final delivery. This integral component of e-commerce operations ensures accurate order processing, handles customer inquiries, and guarantees timely fulfillment. Acting as a bridge between customers and your business, order-taking services provide a seamless experience that cultivates customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Key Components of a Seamless Order-Taking Process Accessible and User-Friendly Ordering Channels To offer customers a frictionless experience, provide multiple ways to place orders — through your website, mobile app, phone calls, or emails. By catering to various preferences, you ensure ease of use and accessibility, enhancing customer convenience.
Well-Trained and Knowledgeable Staff Whether in-house or outsourced, your order-taking representatives must possess a comprehensive understanding of your products, services, and processes. Their expertise allows for efficient and accurate assistance, ensuring a seamless customer experience.
Integrated Systems for Streamlined Operations To maintain accuracy and efficiency, it’s essential to connect your order-taking system with other critical e-commerce platforms, such as inventory management and payment processing systems. This integration enables seamless information flow, reducing errors and delays.
Clear and Transparent Communication Providing customers with timely updates on their orders, including shipping notifications and tracking details, fosters transparency and trust. Clear communication throughout the order journey contributes to customer satisfaction and loyalty.
Efficient Issue Resolution Establishing a robust system for handling customer complaints, returns, or cancellations promptly and fairly is crucial. Effective issue resolution prevents dissatisfaction and mitigates the risk of negative reviews, safeguarding your brand reputation.
Types of Order-Taking Services: In-House vs. Outsourced When it comes to order-taking services, businesses have two options: in-house or outsourced.
In-House Order-Taking: Pros: Greater control over operations. Cons: Higher overhead costs, increased management responsibilities, and potentially limited scalability. Outsourced Order-Taking: Pros: Access to experienced professionals, reduced overhead costs, and increased scalability. Cons: Potential communication barriers and reliance on third-party service quality. Therefore, choosing a reputable and experienced third party is crucial.

Unleashing the Advantages of Quality Outsourced Order-Taking Service

Elevating Customer Experience and Satisfaction Quality order-taking services prioritize customers’ needs, offering a seamless and convenient shopping experience. Prompt responses, accurate order processing, and transparent communication contribute to a positive customer journey, resulting in increased overall satisfaction.
Streamlining Operations and Boosting Efficiency By entrusting order-taking tasks to a dedicated team or provider, businesses can streamline their operations and allow their staff to focus on core areas. Specialization leads to increased efficiency, faster order processing times, and ultimately, better customer service.
Ensuring Order Accuracy and Minimizing Errors A well-structured order-taking process ensures accurate order processing and minimizes errors. This reduces the likelihood of shipping wrong items or facing delays due to miscommunication, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction.
Fostering Customer Retention and Repeat Business Positive order-taking experiences encourage customers to return for future purchases. By nurturing customer loyalty through effective order-taking services, businesses can cultivate repeat business and secure a steady revenue stream. Scalability and Adaptability for Business Growth Whether you choose an in-house team or an outsourced provider, order-taking services can be scaled up or down to meet your business’s changing demands. This flexibility allows you to accommodate fluctuations in order volume, seasonal trends, or long-term growth, ensuring your e-commerce operations can adapt and thrive.

Showcasing Outstanding Phone Order-Taking Service Experience

Imagine the following exemplary phone order-taking service experience:
Jane, in search of new running shoes, discovered an online sports store offering phone order placement. Dialing the provided number, she was swiftly connected to a friendly and knowledgeable representative. The agent expertly guided her through the available options, helping her find the perfect pair tailored to her needs.
During the call, the representative explained payment methods and shipping options with utmost clarity. Once Jane provided her details, she received an immediate confirmation email, complete with her order number and the expected delivery date. The next day, Jane received a text message containing a tracking number and a link to track her order. True to their promise, her new running shoes arrived within the estimated delivery window, securely packaged and exactly as she had ordered. Throughout the entire process, the call order-taking service demonstrated clear communication, accurate order processing, and timely delivery. The result? A satisfied customer who would undoubtedly choose to shop from the online store again.

Highlighting a Poor Call Order-Taking Service Experience

Now, let’s delve into an unfortunate call order-taking service experience:
John wished to purchase a birthday gift for his friend and found the perfect gadget on an e-commerce website offering phone order placement. Upon calling the provided number, he endured long hold times before finally reaching a representative. To John’s dismay, the agent appeared disinterested and uninformed, making it challenging to locate the desired product.
During the call, the checkout process proved slow and convoluted, with limited payment options and unclear shipping information. After placing his order, John received a vague confirmation email lacking any details about the expected delivery date.
Over the following days, he received no updates on his order status, prompting him to contact customer service again. Sadly, the representative he spoke with proved unhelpful and unable to provide any information about the order. Eventually, the gift arrived two days after his friend’s birthday, only to find it damaged. In this case, the call order-taking service failed to deliver clear communication, accurate order processing, and timely delivery. The result? A disappointed customer who is unlikely to choose the e-commerce website for future purchases.

The Noble Audio FoKus Mystique TWS Headphones Review. You don’t need it
The first TWS Noble Audio headphones I’ve ever laid my hands on – the Falcon Pro – turned out to be pathetically shitty. Their sounding was actually something you could argue about, but the number of bugs and twitches… Oof! And, as I said some reviews ago, just don’t ever buy this nonsense for any money. What do you think happened just recently? A follower brought me their new model to review – and for this I’m thankful infinitely. No one can turn down a chance to tickle some $360-worth of headphones. No one.
Alex, dear! If you’re reading this, once again – thanks a million!
Well, enough introductions! Today we’re going to see if the latest John ‘Wizzard’ Moulton’s creation is a success. here come the Noble FoKus Mystique (hereinafter — NFM), the hybrid three-driver TWS headphones costing $360.

https://preview.redd.it/nfyipmczuu4b1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a5e337dfe29ce27ee028e1bc1bbc5917968e429d
While working on this review, the following software versions were used.
  • Headphone firmware: HP2068-ANC_20221117_v0.0.5
  • Noble FoKus Android app: 1.4.6

What’s included

Aside from the headphones and the case, the box contained the following stuff.
  • A set of eartips (3 pairs of single-flange and 3 pairs of 2-flange).
  • A short USB Charging Cable (Type-A to Type-C).
  • A soft bag.

https://preview.redd.it/ka69sd5cvu4b1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69fe36202a80c2d8e2371018902ccb2274ca3d17

Build, materials, design

The case seems to be made of 4-inch steel, no less. Huge case weight – that’s what you basically think when you first take that trunk. It’s really heavy, and it’s big… and pleasantly cool to the touch. It’s not steel, of course, – it’s aluminum. I think the manufacturer tried to create an aura of a premium product. Did it work? Not really: the lid is loose, and there are gaps at the joints.

https://preview.redd.it/auiohtlivu4b1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=98f9d4448cee2e268c744dff5aaba6ee9d1490b0
There are 4 blue LEDs on the front indicating the charging status. The rear side only sports a Type-C charging port. As for the insides, here are the unsurprising earpiece slots with a pair of spring–loaded contacts in each of them. The hardware reset button is located in between. The headphones sit firmly in their sockets thanks to magnets.
As for the headphones themselves, these look like some extremely generalized ‘custom’ model. 3D-printed and varnished.
https://preview.redd.it/1ss71zwkvu4b1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3db3e08586417af911ebbb060dfbce4020a84284
Under the glossy surface, there’s a nice try to live them up to their name with tiny iridescent sparkles scattered all over. Well, it really does look ‘mystique’. There are blue LEDs under the backplates. And I actually like such design concepts, especially when plastic is used for the enclosures. Think of it: the metal headphones make you uncomfortable at +5 °C already, and it only gets worse with the temperature dropping down. I wouldn’t want my ears to freeze to the headphones!

Ergonomics and comfort level

Talking about fit and all, these are actually comfortable to use. The shape allows perfect fit without pressure in any area, and they’re still comfortable even after 3 hours of uninterrupted wear. But! This was my own personal experience. Will these headphones suit awesome to every user? I don’t really think so: the headphones are quite large. The Linkbuds S easily wrestle the NFM down in this competition.
I’d like to point out the sound ducts, which are longer and thicker than those that are usually used in TWS headphones. These aren’t as long and thick as (porn joke – scratched) as the Etymotic ducts, but you’ll most likely have to play it with different eartips.
https://preview.redd.it/2tdnqocovu4b1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70605f411c1ffab4dca710cc067af15a6b568f72
The included eartips, by the way, are excellent, especially the 2-flanged ones. They’re thin, they feel good against your ear skin, they’re perfectly soundproof and keep the earpieces in their places.
https://preview.redd.it/lbcza59qvu4b1.jpg?width=1600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcdab98ccf8640fb71bcf8574c901412e3897145
Now, let’s talk about additional functionalities we’re probably all used to with the headphones of the same or even much lower cost here. Well, there’s basically nothing to talk about. There are no sensors to detect if the earpieces are inside your ears, the talk-to-hear isn’t here. No active noise reduction, no multiple source connectivity, no wireless charging… Moreover, the control gesture configuration is very limited, and I’m going to cover this below. Want to know the exact battery level of the case? It’s a mystique, too.
That being said, I don’t really have any issues with the NFM construction and ergonomics, but the overall usage experience and their set of function kill me. These cost $360, for Crust’s sake! These should be able to brew me a cappuccino every other hour!

Mobile app

I have some serious suspicion here: what if the audiophile proprietary apps are all developed by the same dumb cack-handed outsourcer? The Noble FoKus app has all the glitches we’ve seen with the Moondrop, the Audeze and so on.
Updating the firmware to the same version? Yes, please.

https://preview.redd.it/qnhvmiosvu4b1.jpg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc5a16bf56a9a3d760154f6fbfc8280e06bae7cf
Buggy interface layout? Yep.

https://preview.redd.it/cwtrgmkuvu4b1.jpg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6fd5faf2717b20a9d4c180194e893155c934d453
Ridiculous setting names? Check.

https://preview.redd.it/dpc6l41wvu4b1.jpg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4a3bceb9989e0d6711fd0b2ce7b852f3f05bc0b
But enough kidding. The app has the following main features.
  1. Firmware updates
  2. Creation of custom presets via 10-band equalizer. And, you know, you can adjust the equalizer settings without necessarily playing any music. How do you like it, Audeze? Looks like your competitors have something of a breakthrough here!
  3. Enabling/disabling acoustic transparency
  4. Headphones battery level indication
  5. Reassigning control gestures
As for the control gestures, these headphones can detect single, double and triple taps, as well as tap’n’holds of different duration. At the same time, you can’t change action behind single taps: it’s always pausing and restarting playback on both headphones. The same goes for tap’n’holds. What you can change, (is to stop eating junk) are the double and triple tap actions. The trick is that you can’t learn about other gesture types, because there’s no in-app help section, alright?
There’s also a user-specific incremental sound calibration feature:

https://preview.redd.it/v4xvgwnxvu4b1.jpg?width=540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d097e9956c333e33846d737b3a6d126cde9b2c8e
…which makes the sound worse than before you calibrate it.

Sound: subjectively

I’ve been testing these headphones for about 20 hours with Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone (AptX) and Hiby R5 (AptX HD) player as sound sources.
With the default settings, that is before you learn what’s what with the equalizer, the NFM sound incomparably bad. The infamous John ‘Wizzard’ Moulton seems to be the sounding boss across the Noble Audio model range, right? I have no idea what kind of school of wizardry and witchcraft he attended, but he certainly skipped quite a lot of sound-related lectures. There’s some extremely inflated subbass and an annoyingly tutting top of the frequency range – and that’s quite all the NFM demonstrate right out of the box. The midrange here isn’t just a little bit lower than it should be – it’s freaking cut off. Everything is covered with a thick and stinky layer of something, which isn’t even subbass… It’s a noisy, gloomy stirring of sounds in the lower frequency range, seasoned with a piercing rough ringing.
I mean, the default NFM sound is THAT bad, I’m not exaggerating in the slightest. Do I even need to try and analyze the sound stage width or any technicalities of the sound delivery? You wouldn’t try to describe the taste of your punch even if there’s only a wee piece of turd floating in that bowl, huh? You want to know how many turds there are in the NFM punch? Probably half of the bowl.
This is why I rushed to tune the NFM sound right away using my measuring rig and a proprietary app equalizer.

https://preview.redd.it/jxseblhzvu4b1.jpg?width=485&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dc662ea27fc96cabdc77c2e50e437fe5cae1337a
When this happened, the sound’s got a lot better!
Of course, I couldn’t stand a chance against that overinflated subbass, but at least it doesn’t harm your hearing anymore – it became a tasteful thing suitable for many music genres. Who’s the real wizzard now, Noble Audio? Thanks to the same methods, the headphones quit mumbling and are now delivering the sound just somewhat more heavily than the original recording material is.
Mid-frequency range. It emerges, it becomes audible, it’s now clearly present in the tracks. And, I must admit, this can easily be one of the best midrange interpretations I’ve ever witnessed! That armature drivers can do their trick here, or it could be anything else – I don’t know! My only question in here is how could you manage to mutilate the sound that much with the default setting! After equalization, the middle frequencies become accurate, clear, a little finer (than I personally like it) and pleasantly spicy. That’s a very good midrange, guys.
The upper frequencies somewhat fall into place – or at least around that place. These only clearly and unpleasantly dominate in some unfortunate tracks. A feeling of ‘airiness’ and of actual width of the sound stage emerges.
What I’m trying to say is that after the equalization, the NFM sound moves from the Beats Audio and pals league to a completely different category and competes with the WF-1000xm4, Linkbuds S, Airpods and other models with really good sound. It’s not easy to pick a winner in that second category, since sound tuning is a matter of personal taste and the equalized sound doesn’t differ any dramatically. In terms of sound stage volume, however, the NFM are really-really close to winning the race.

Measurements

The measurements were made using a rig conforming to the IEC60318-4 standard – with an auricle and auditory canal simulator. The smoothing is indicated on the graphs. I’ve described the limitations of the rig and the headphones measurements in general in this article.
The frequency response curve is so bad here, that I’ve literally found myself stuck. For, like, the third time in my measurement life. I couldn’t decide how to position the graph relative to the target curves so that I could evaluate the sound essence in a more or less adequate way.
And that’s what I came up with. This one is the default NFM tuning:

https://preview.redd.it/lr8rdqs1wu4b1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4072beba91fe1a2a82e85c0d0ac2b252f8b5f586
As you can see, the subbass is raised by 12 dB (which is 4 times a norm), the middle is lower by 3 dB across the entire graph, but look at that Everest Mountain around 7.5 kHz!
‘Kinda looks Harmanish’ to you? Nope, it’s not Harman here:
https://preview.redd.it/q4fis1m3wu4b1.jpg?width=1800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55cabd12645b1b8aeb0b01c8ed38197c3a27ec92
After equalization, the sound delivery is much smoother, although these peek-a-boos around 20 and 7.5 kHz won’t go away:

Summary

I can’t quite put a finger on a type of audience the Noble Audio chose as their target one with this model. Can’t even think of any target audience at all. Look at the price – it’s $360! Pay this, and only get any decent sounding only after you somehow pick an equalization set correctly, as well as a very limited set of additional features and a pretty dumb mobile app. Wouldn’t be happy about the purchase, if you ask me. Oh, and don’t forget a number of technical glitches such as unstable connection to the sound source.
I daresay that the Linkbuds S, for example, sound somewhat similarly to the NFM in terms of technical execution. But for half an NFM money and with a whole lot of cutting-edge advanced features on top. Moreover, the Linkbuds S don’t depend on the Qualcomm chipsets, because the LDAC is used in them. The sound is never interrupted, too.
Why is that you don’t notice Noble Audio users around you – in the bus, at work, in the gym? ‘Cause no pain – no gain. You can’t just take a renowned brand name, add some ENT knowledge and old successes – to reach any good results, years of constant tries and improvements are needed. Improve the hardware! Refine the freaking software! Get some intel from your competitors! And set adequate prices, that’s it.
My sentence is: don’t buy these.
And if you like such a tuning, try considering the Anker Soundcore Liberty 3 Pro.

2023.06.08 22:29 Anon-Ymous929 Behavioral Sink - The rat utopia experiment

Many of you have probably heard of this experiment, but the short introduction is that starting in 1958, a researcher named John B. Calhoun began performing experiments on populations of rats to see what would happen if all of their resources were unlimited and they were kept safe from predators, diseases, weather, etc. Of these initial rat experiments Calhoun wrote:
"By the end of 27 months the population had become stabilized at 150 adults. Yet adult mortality was so low that 5,000 adults might have been expected from the observed reproductive rate. The reason this larger population did not materialize was that infant mortality was extremely high. Even with only 150 adults in the enclosure, stress from social interaction led to such disruption of maternal behavior that few young survived." [...]
"The consequences of the behavioral pathology we observed were most apparent among the females. Many were unable to carry pregnancy to full term or to survive delivery of their litters if they did. An even greater number, after successfully giving birth, fell short in their maternal functions. Among the males the behavior disturbances ranged from sexual deviation to cannibalism and from frenetic overactivity to a pathological withdrawal from which individuals would emerge to eat, drink and move about only when other members of the community were asleep. The social organization of the animals showed equal disruption." [...]
"The common source of these disturbances became most dramatically apparent in the populations of our first series of three experiments, in which we observed the development of what we called a behavioral sink. The animals would crowd together in greatest number in one of the four interconnecting pens in which the colony was maintained. As many as 60 of the 80 rats in each experimental population would assemble in one pen during periods of feeding. Individual rats would rarely eat except in the company of other rats. As a result extreme population densities developed in the pen adopted for eating, leaving the others with sparse populations." [...]
"But the same pathological "togetherness" tended to disrupt the ordered sequences of activity involved in other vital modes of behavior such as the courting of sex partners, the building of nests and the nursing and care of the young. In the experiments in which the behavioral sink developed, infant mortality ran as high as 96 percent among the most disoriented groups in the population. Even in the absence of the behavioral sink, in the second series of three experiments, infant mortality reached 80 percent among the corresponding members of the experimental populations."
This phrase, "behavioral sink" is commonly associated with Calhoun's experiments. His most well known experiment was in 1968 on mice, which was designed to hold nearly 4,000 mice but the population maxed out at 2,200. Most of the rapid growth was in the first 315 days, but between 315 and 600 days, population growth slowed and violence became more prevalent. Social structure began to break down. Females stopped caring for the young, males didn't need to defend their resources because of the lack of scarcity but did form into groups that attacked each other, cannibalism, and Calhoun specifically mentions an increase in homosexuality. Calhoun describes many of the mice spending their time grooming themselves and doing other solitary behaviors, which he called "the beautiful ones". Eventually breeding activity stopped and the population declined to the point of total extinction.
Calhoun's original intention was to study the effects of overpopulation, and of course most of the people who cite his experiments do so in terms of overpopulation, however overpopulation is not exactly what happened in Calhoun's experiments. The rat and mice populations died out not because of lack of resources or lack of space or because of diseases, etc. What killed them off was their own behavior. They simply stopped reproducing and destroyed themselves. Overpopulation may have been the intended control variable of the experiment, but what the experiment appears to have actually been testing is what happens when resources are infinite.
Calhoun clearly expected us to apply these lessons to humans, saying "I shall largely speak of mice, but my thoughts are on man." And I find this information relevant to both sides of the Capitalism vs. Communism debate because in a communist system, resources are arbitrarily infinite, while in a capitalist system resources are produced efficiently so as to become seemingly infinite.
In Bolshevik Russia, the 1918 Code on Marriage, the Family and Guardianship was ratified. This code was intended to implement a Marxist view of the family, where the nuclear family was unnecessary and would be replaced by communal resources. Adoption was abolished, because the state would take care of orphans, divorce was made easy, etc. By 1921 there were seven million orphans roaming the streets and the government didn't have the resources to care for them, and in 1936 a new code was written that shifted back towards a more conservative family arrangement, re-establishing many of the social/sexual standards that had been done away with. Divorce was made harder, limitations were put on abortion, and large families were encouraged. Still Russia saw a massive decline in fertility starting in the early 1900s which never really stopped.
Western countries show similar fertility declines. The USA for example dropped below replacement levels in the early 1970s and has never recovered since. The USA as one of the richest countries in the world is not lacking resources, and one proof of this is that poor people are more likely to be obese than rich people. So our food and water are functionally unlimited, arguably similar to the rat/mice utopias. Notice how our society went through a sexual revolution, and yet we're having fewer kids. I don't want this post to become a debate about the LGBT movement however I still point it out because of the correlation with Calhoun's notes, that LGBT rates are on the rise in newer generations. We idolize celebrities and models (the beautiful ones), we're becoming more socially isolated, technology is advancing and economic comforts are easier to obtain, but rates of stress and depression prescriptions are rising. Perhaps you believe that fewer humans are a good thing for environmental reasons or whatever, but over the next few generations this is still going to be a huge economic problem because older generations are dependent on the production and subsidization from the younger generation, in the form of programs like medicare and social security. They spend their 401Ks buying goods that we are producing now. Fewer of us now means a top-heavy economy.
So what do you think, can we compare the breakdown of American society today to the rats' 1962 Behavioral Sink? I certainly see a lot of similarities. And which system is the rat utopia a better metaphor of, communism or capitalism?
Perhaps the conclusion we should draw from all of this is that some amount of struggle is necessary for mammals to behave properly. We evolved for tens of millions of years in a wild environment not knowing where our next meal might come from, but now we sit in air conditioned houses with pantries stocked with food, and that transition just happened far too fast for our brains to evolve into.
Side note: The organization Calhoun was working for was called the National Institute of Mental Health, or NIMH, which was the inspiration for the "Rats of NIMH" novel, which was eventually made into a Don Bluth movie called "The Secret of NIMH". In the novel and movie the experiments made the rats smarter, but obviously the real experiments had nothing to do with that.

2023.06.08 19:13 KodakRb Tips and tricks for game

This story started when I was 14, a mere infant. My mother barely made ends meat being a single mom, as my dad had left 2 years earlier. Living in a cheap apartment in Colorado we heard many bone-chilling noises some nights… However this one day, was much much different. This day was on September 15th 2020, and my mom told me she would be out with friends, she said if I behaved I would be rewarded with Robux. The dumb child I was, agreed to these terms.. even though Robux was not a viable currency. Robux is a virtual currency known on the popular web meta verse know as Roblox.com not to be confused with Fortnite’s v bucks. Fortnite is a popular first person shooter… such like call of duty, call of duty is the worlds most popular first person shooter similar to Fortnite or halo, halo is the 2nd most popular first person shooter created by Bungie and Microsoft enterprises, Microsoft is a very popular company best know for windows or Xbox the close competitor of PlayStation, PlayStation is the worlds most popular game system founded by Sony, Sony is most known for their remarkable tvs close competitor of Roku, Roku is currently going bankrupt and Roku is close competitors to Viacom who is best known for owning nick and nick is best known for SpongeBob SquarePants which is close competitors with the Patrick star show, anyways back to the story… I sat on my bed contemplating my life choices like any 14 year old until I heard somebody knocking at the door, assuming it was my mom I went upstairs to answer it, I was greeted by the pizza delivery man saying he delivered a pizza to me, however I did not order a pizza.. the pizza delivery man handed me the pizza but I had to say “I DID NOT ORDER NO GOSH DARN PIZZA” I screamed and I slammed the door, I was happy I got a free hot and ready little ceasers pizza.
