Currently in a field that is pretty physical and has inconsistent pay and benefits because it is gig-based. It is what I went to grad school for and brings me a certain amount of career satisfaction, but not enough financial stability. I'm currently doing the work while 6 months pregnant, but it seems like it's getting harder and harder to be on my feet all day and even before conceiving, I was thinking of shifting careers to something more remote/stable.
The only problem is that I'd be essentially starting over in another field to be able to find remote work. Conceivabley I could probably spend time learning different software in the broad spectrum of what I do to find remote work, but it's definitely a time consuming and potentially expensive task to do so, and it would still be gig-based anyway.
All that said, has anyone had success with a career shift while still pregnant or even a few months post partum? I won't have maternity leave pay or anything, but assume it would be hard to apply and interview for work right now while in good conscience knowing I'll need to go on leave in like 3 months anyway, so I figure I'll have to wait til I'm ready to go back to work post partum, though that seems tricky as well.

Quick context: (24, Male) I am employed through a temp agency. Currently in Ontario, Canada.

I graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a focus in Accounting in June 2021. Unfortunately, I was not able to secure a career or job relating to the field. I'm still searching a job relating to accounting and currently enrolled in CPA PEP (currently in Capstone 1, taking the Common Final Exam in September). Still living with my family.
In the meantime, I took the first job that was offered to me, which ended up being a warehouse associate position from a temp agency in November 2021. It was mainly night shift, with some overtime in the day shift. It has been my only job assignment. My pay started at $17 CAD, currently $19 CAD.
The job is repetitive, but doable. It paid my bills and help contribute to paying rent for my family. Thanks to overtime, and just not going out because of sleeping during the day and just not doing much in my life, I have an okay amount of savings (Currently about $12,000 CAD). However, the hours are based on business needs. Thus, I could be working 40+ hours in one week, and 10 hours or less the next week. It fluctuates, but the low end of hours tend to occur during my study time for CPA PEP.
While it may not be smart, I'm looking to leave this job at the latest by July 31, 2023. My plan is to stop working around that date to study for the final CPA PEP module and study for CFE. I will be searching for work (mainly relating to accounting) during my study time. I hope that after writing the CFE in mid September, I successfully secured a position relating to accounting. Otherwise, I will begin searching for any kind of work. However, other factors outside of CPA PEP are influencing me to leave immediately.

• Reason: Want to focus on studying for the final examinations. The main reason I want to quit my job is to take the final CPA PEP module (Capstone 2) and study for the Common Final Exam. I know 2 months seems excessive, but I want the highest amount of study time to study, retain, and understand the material to feel confident and pass the CFE. I made it this far, thus I want to help myself to pass my first attempt at the CFE. (Note: This reason isn't a factor for me wanting to quit immediately, the other 3 reasons are the main factors).
• Reason: No prospect to move within the organization or get another assignment from my current agency. While I am happy that I have a job that allows me to making money to pay the bills and rent, the job is pretty much a dead end without the company I work at buying out my contract from my agency. Thus I am not gaining valuable experience that will help me find work in accounting nor am I able to move within the organization. I get passed over for other high level duties and hiring opportunities in favour of the other associates (whether hired through the company or agency). When I ask about other duties I would like to perform or be trained on, I'm told that my current duties keeps operations moving smoothly, that I am constantly exceeding expected productivity, and not to worry or feel bad since I'm doing an excellent job, thus the reason why I'm still employed here. My agency doesn't provide any office work assignments. Thus, I took what I can get.
• Reason: Being paid less (despite seniority). When I started (November, 2021), there were about 20 workers during my shift (1 supervisor, 1 team lead, 2 warehouse clerks, and 16 associates). Now, there are 12 associates (1 supervisor, 1 team lead, 1 warehouse clerk, and 9 associates). Many associates were hired through the company, where a few (like myself) were hired through agency. I stuck around because they liked my productivity, knowledge, and professional behavior. After about 18 months, as of May, 2022, I am the most senior associate during the night shift, but I am being paid $1 less an hour compare to the other associates hired through the company. Moreover, when overtime happen, associates employed through the company are paid double their hourly whereas I am still paid the same rate ($19 on night, $18 during the day) until I hit 44 hours. Even when I hit 44 hours, I am only paid 1.5x the hourly rate because it's law in Ontario.
• Reason: Feeling excluded, partially feel unwelcomed in the workplace, and being left out. I also felt excluded whenever associate and management staff are interacting with eachother. I notice them talking to eachother for long periods of time (sometime in their own culture's language, despite a rule indicating that English is only allowed to be spoken in the warehouse). I usually sit alone in the lunch room. I am an introvert, thus, I honestly don't mind working while they has a conversation about their lives or whatever. But what really made this a problem is that whenever there is an emergency meeting that everyone (including agency) are required to attend, no one notifies me. Usually, the meetings are about social events, workplace problem and resolutions, addressing new rules and feedback, and other important matters. A few times, I stumble into the meeting while everyone is listening to management about important matters. Other times, I never noticed that there was a meeting until management finds me working. Of course, I get in trouble for not dropping my work when told by management staff that there is a meeting to attend, with my defence being "no one told me". There isn't a post bulletin or loud speaker to announce the meeting. The meetings occur randomly and takes place near the management workspace of the warehouse. Before an emergency meeting, the supervisor, team lead, and clerk are suppose to find everyone before it starts.

While I did mention that I get in trouble for not attending emergency meetings I am not told were happening, I honestly don't get in trouble for anything else. I am praised for making very few to no errors, being a hard and efficient worker and having a strong and near perfect attendance without numerous call ins. However, the reasons above, the fact that I honestly am not happy with going to work anymore, lead to my belief that it's best to move on. However, I am trying to think of my exit strategy. Currently, no one knows that I am leaving or I intent on leaving. My agency asks for a 5 day notice. I intent to fulfil that obligation, however, I don't want management (nor anyone in the company) to know that I am quitting until after my final day. I know this sounds dumb and probably unrealistic, but I don't want my colleagues to try to persuade me to stay or say that "they will miss me". I just want to leave while making the most amount of money as I can while leaving quietly on good terms with the agency and the organization. No goodbyes, just end my shift on my last day of work and leave that job like I never worked there. It's selfish I know, but I just want to move on from that job, focus on passing my final modules and the CFE for PEP, and hopefully find a job in Accounting that would help me to be complete the process to obtain my CPA (Certified Professional Accountant).
I apologize if my post sounds ranty, I just want advice on leaving my current position quietly. Even if it's a realistic perspective stating that what I want is impossible and management within the company will know my final day of work, I thought it still wouldn't hurt to ask here. So my family is actually getting evicted. We have until July 31st. We’ve been here a very long time and are very surprised by this sudden eviction but it turns out the whole street is getting sold as well to a college right next door. Obviously 12$hr isn’t cutting it anymore. I thought I had more time to do school and figure out what I wanted to do. I squandered a lot of my younger years doing drugs and just being an idiot in general. I still struggle with addiction and take suboxone daily (prescribed) have been clean 2 years. But this stuff has really got me feeling lost. I almost feel paralyzed at times if I’m being completely honest. I need to find a career that pays good and can teach me valuable skills and traits that will actually help me in life. Exciting to read about x86s (I did notice it when it was announced some weeks ago but didn't have time to look into it). Here's my thoughts, would love some discussion/feedback on this:

1. Something I'm surprised haven't been discussed: I wonder if even modern UEFI 64-bit o/s'es in their current form might also face compatibility problems - I suspect they will. Even if they are native 64-bit UEFI they might still use those old modes during the boot process or for some non-obvious things. At least when starting up the other cores, changes will be necessary. Same goes for drivers or other low-level system software, virtualizers etc. So this means that not only does x86s break some old DOS or Windows 95-esque images, it is probably also the very latest current images that wouldn't even be able to boot on a x86s machine when it comes out. While all vendors will of course have updated their software long before it comes out, it will likely also cause problems that even fairly recent images will not be bootable. Might also cause some confusion for consumers - why doesn't this Samsung utility for my SSD boot after I switched to this new CPU etc. etc.
2. I expect little performance or power impact: It's just all the mode-related stuff, it doesn't have any impact of the actual instruction execution aspects of the core, which more or less doesn't know what mode is running anyway. The original 386 was only 275K transistors yet it had real mode, 16/32-protected mode, paging, full 32-bit instruction set, v86 mode, call/task gates, hardware task switching etc. Clearly, modes doesn't cost a lot. A modern CPU core is around 1 billion transistors, more than 1000 as much as the whole 386.
3. Why not use the opportunity to introduce a new ISA (or at least encoding)? The x86 decoders are enormous and power hungry. I don't think this will help much (perhaps they will be smaller but likely not much less power hungry in 64-bit mode). The hungriness is due to the enormous variability in instruction length and the prefix mechanics. I think Intel could have won a lot by at least a somewhat simplified ISA. Not _extremely_ simplified. It could even be semantically the same (all adressing modes and register etc. preserved) just encoded more efficiently by proper setup of opcode tables (and "levels") from the beginning.
4. Does anyone know what impact on SMM (System Management Mode) - no mention in the document? I'm not even sure if that normally runs with paging or if it's 32-bit or 64-bit currently?
5. Legacy virtualization: The removal of unrestricted guest suggests that legacy modes are also removed from virtualization, which makes sense since otherwise all the complexity would still be there. But it also means emulators will have to rely on software virtualization instead.
6. Seems that the RIP and initial value of CR3 will now be retrieved from a so-called Firmware Interface Table indexed from a fixed address before the execution begins (compared to execution starting from the RESET vector today). Interesting! I wonder if there's an internal non-x86 core for parsing the FIT table ;)
7. 32-bit submode preserved - it will still be possible to compile a program on Windows 95 using Visual Studio 5, then move the exact .EXE file to a new Windows 11 64-bit machine running x86s and run that .EXE file natively at full speed. Quite amazing - Win95 is already 28 years away!
8. Virtualization of 32-bit o/s: Can a virtualizer perhaps take advantage of the remaining 32-bit submode of long mode for handling virtualization of the time a guest spends inside 32-bit user mode? So the virtualizer would start off using pure software emulation for the 16-bit but later when booting e.g. Windows 95 and 32-bit user processes get control the virtualizer could use 32-bit submode to virtualize that and then switch emulation strategy again in case of interrupts etc. I guess the most obvious way would be to actually use VMX to run a long mode "virtualization-assist" guest that then has a 32-bit sub-task for hosting the 32-bit sub task from Windows 95 (in this example) so that the nested page table mechanism can still be exploited. Either that or the virtualizer will build a set of first-level PML4/PML5 page tables reflecting the virtualized environment and run the 32-bit task directly (without VMX). Perhaps such strategies can also be used for the 32-bit kernel mode using suitable binary translations (I believe this is how VMWare worked initially). So 32-bit o/s emulation might be faster than one might think.

10. Timeframe? I've seen it referenced as a discussion paper - so a solicitation for comments. So the design is likely not finalized if even implemented at all. So maybe they freeze the actual architectural design in, say, a year. Then a few years for implementation and general CPU to-market turnaround and the observation from #1... I would guess we are at the order of 5 year time frame, if not more?
