I have been seeing some scale bugs on my Alocasia and spider mites in my aloes I am using white oil to deal with them before they get out of hand but I think they are coming With the soil I use in my diy mix so would it be better to just sterilise the soil wen I need it or swap to none soil

Listening to Milio's dialogue about "Which dog likes snuggles the most Naafiri?" It made me wonder if all dogs are, you know, the same. Something like, the same sprite with the same abilities or some difference like the "fish" that Belveth has. Will Naafiri be the full pack of wolves, with each one holding the dagger differently and having some peculiarity? Or just one monstrous dog among many small common dogs that she commands like an alpha? How would you like it to be? ...(hyyyyype!)

My husband and I have been having some issues lately. I think this plays into this situation due to his stress level/breaking point, doesn’t make it right.
Basically, he got home and went to bake with her. He was doing multiple things at once. I was letting him while wrapping up work in another room. He was making pancakes and cookies with her. He asked her to mix some eggs while he was flipping some pancakes on the stove I guess. I was in the living room when I heard the most feral, “NO! No!”. At first I thought he was yelling at the dog, which I’ve also asked him not to do like that, but then realized he was yelling at her because she was giving the dog raw eggs.
My daughter is very sensitive. She picks up on everything and takes everything to heart. She didn’t cry, but as soon as I walked in and asked her if she was okay she started bawling saying she didn’t want to bake anymore, she didn’t want to mix anymore, and she didn’t want to be by him right then and there. He was telling me to leave her because she was fine, but I took her out (she was helping him in her highchair). It took her a good 10 minutes to settle.
I was yelled at like that as a child, but older (starting around 8), by my stepdad. I still have a strong emotional response to that kind of yelling. I am not perfect, and I have definitely yelled at her before, felt horrific, and sincerely apologized to her. Yelling like that specifically has happened maybe twice though. I apologize to her all the time for other things. Speaking in a tone she doesn’t like, not paying attention to something 100% and explain what happened to her.
He kept trying to make her go back and she kept saying to him, you didn’t say sorry. So he non-enthusiastically apologized and she knew it wasn’t sincere. It’s important to me too that he realizes his mistakes and owns up to them.
Her feeding the dog eggs was his fault, in my opinion. He was doing more things than he could handle, he trusted a 4 year old with eggs, and then got mad when he lost control of the situation. During his yelling, he claimed she was wasting eggs, but when he took her back to remake them, he added food coloring to the second batch to make them “fun”, cooked them, said they looked unappetizing, and then threw them out in front of her. So now, he’s being inconsistent. Why is it okay for him to be wasteful, but not her?
This happened hours ago and I’m still stewing over it. I told her no one has the right to yell at anyone like that. Daddy was having a bad day and no, she shouldn’t give the dog eggs like that, but that it didn’t mean he should yell at her like that.
Is there anything else that could/should be done? Did I make it worse by going in there? Should I have just let him handle it. He keeps saying she was fine until I asked if she was okay, but I feel that was fair.

Hello! My GF and I adopted a husky 10 months old female not spayed yet from a "friend" who told us she was a well behaved and properly housebroken. At first, she was doing great, albeit incredibly timid, but now she's peeing on everything, including the bed she's also been snapping and starting fights with my 5 yo GSP who is the biggest sweetheart whenever she comes near when petting the new dog or completely unprevoked. She's gotten only a little better on peeing outside after using the older dog as an example and lots of affection and treats for behaviors that we want. Shes very young and still adjusting to the new house but i never had this much difficulty with my GSP that i adopted at 6 mo Should I stay the course and keep trying how i have been, or is there something else I can try?

Although our individual experience and biased pov worth a damn in terms of scale of problem representation, I was too curious not to ask for your stories, pals.

I'm pretty handy and I do a lot of DIY repairs, upgrades, and remodeling, but I have very limited experience with concrete.
At my old house I ran into a shed problem. I had an oversized concrete pad poured for a metal pre-fab shed. I wanted the slab bigger than the shed on one side to keep some potted plants off the ground, but outside the shed, so on one side, the slab extended out about 2 feet beyond the shed wall. :Unfortunately, I found that during heavy rains, water would seep/flow under the shed walls and pool inside. A puddle of water inside in the heat of Florida meant anything metal inside the shed rusted badly. I assume the water came from the side of the slab that extended out past the walls, but I wasn't sure. A friend that does remodeling said I should've had the interior of the shed floor floor poured just slightly higher than the rest of the slab, so the shed walls would sit just slightly lower than the interior floor, then no water could have come into the shed.
I'm now at a new house and want to build a small lean-to shed up against the existing concrete block wall of the house with PT 2x4s and siding, and I want to add a slab for it. Due to the seepage issue I ran into before, I was thinking about somehow adding a 3 1/2" wide lowered (about 1/4") perimeter edge around the 3 sides of the slab that are away from the house (which the the walls of the shed will be built upon), so when I bolt down my base 2x4's to the concrete slab for the walls, any water that could possibly ever try to come in under the walls and into the shed (from driving rain for example) won't be able to seep inside, because the interior floor is just a little higher. Is this a thing that's done, and if so, what is it called? Is it a good or bad idea? And if it's a good idea, what's the best way to do it? It seems like it would make a lot of sense to do it this way, as water normally won't go uphill, but I can't find any posts or YouTube videos of concrete pads done this way, which makes me wonder if my great idea is actually a very bad plan. Thanks for any suggestions.

(For some context I am 18 my sister is 30 and she just recently moved back in with our parents. We live in a four bedroom house with me, my sister, my dad, my mom, my two nephews, my papa, and four dogs. she has two dogs both are huskies my parents have two both small.)

She moved back in after her marriage started to fall apart and before that we were already housing her two dogs and children. She is barely home and takes very little care of her boys and dogs. Now she's had multiple huskies over the years and continues to adopt this specific breed. L is on the younger side and is a mix of different types of huskies. A is a Siberian and is a lot older maybe like 11-13 years old.
My sister E does not take either dog on walks/to the park. They get maybe 5 minutes of play time every once in a while and trust me it's heartbreaking. The dogs have mostly stopped trying to play simply because they know no one will play with them. I try to play with them as much as possible but even I can't do much to help.
L really likes to steal stuff like food and trash. She gets into everything. She's done this since they got her. I know for a fact that she is bored out of her mind. she has no toys no friends and sleeps pretty much all day. A is pretty quiet and doesn't do much mostly because she's older but she loves her walks.
My sister claims that L and A are perfectly fine but constantly complains about L getting into things and trashing the house. Now L has gained a lot of weight because of her getting into shit around the house and E has been complaining more and more about how people are leaving their stuff around the house where she can get to it.
Another part is that she only feeds them about 1 cup of food a day. She claims that this is best because they never get exercise and doesn't even seem to realise that this lifestyle is literally killing both the them.
I eventually snapped and yelled at her for treating her dogs like shit and now I feel bad because I'm moving out soon and I can't help these poor dogs.

I got recommend a few homesteading videos to me last year and I just can't stop watching them. The thought of getting out of the city life and going back to something simpler, growing my own food, collecting water and solar, and generally just providing for myself has really grown on me. Especially as we've seen how crazy the world has gotten the past few years, supply chain issues, etc.
I'm a 32 year old guy, wear glasses, have a beard, am 5'11" and white, and actively working on losing the stupid amount of weight I put on during the lockdowns (actively fasting + exercise biking). I currently live in Northern Virginia but I am looking to change that and move somewhere rural eventually, maybe NH, TN, or WV. I am gainfully employed, fully support myself and pay my own bills, and live in an apartment by myself and not in my mother's basement.
I enjoy reading, watching thunderstorms, and assembling Ikea furniture, though I'd like to learn the skills to build my own furniture. Animal lover, it would be great to have several dogs and a fish tank, and some chickens for eggs and meat. I would love to spend more time in nature and the main thing stopping me from living my homesteading dream is that my work hasn't approved satellite internet for remote employees, so I need to find some land that is both rural and has cable internet. I also need to learn to drive, growing up poor and then working in cities full of grid lock caused me to miss out on that life skill. I have some stereotypical nerdy interests like Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter, and gaming (not really into FPS, more things like Factorio) that everyone seems to have nowadays. Other than that I don't consume too much other modern mainstream media, I prefer older shows, movies, and music. I have a bunch of travel related to the eclipse and nature planned for next year.
I'm probably going to lose the vast majority of anyone still reading with this next bit. I'm not a left leaning. I lean decently right of the spectrum on many, but not all things. For everyone here that now actively hates me, I wish you well in your search for a partner and happiness in life. Monogamous. Nature-y/druid-y type religion. Open to LDR.
Open to having children with the right woman, but I'd rather not get involved with someone who already has kids. Definitely in favor of homeschooling/co-op schooling if kids do become a thing, and willing to provide the support necessary to do so. Fine with smoking and/or drinking, but I don't do too much drinking anymore and I don't smoke because of work. You can probably accurately guess many of my other values at this point, so I'll let you read between the lines from here. Always open to answering any questions you have.

Background: i live in a newly built house I'm a grown man 6'2 (230 lbs) I have three dogs, an older Yorkie , a middle aged Chihuahua and a very territorial Maltipoo (all lap dogs small)
My uncle passed away about two weeks ago from what we believe is a heart attack that triggered him to fall and smack his head. Anyway, my mom found him dead sprawled out on the living room floor. His wishes were to be cremated so all of the family was called to say our goodbyes.
When we found him, we was already dead for perhaps an entire day, cold and lifeless and bleeding from his nose. (Prior to this, i didn't know a body could bleed) After the police cleared the scene we all proceeded inside to cry, mourn and say our goodbyes. Being inquisitive by nature, i took it upon myself to use my phone to shine a flashlight on his wound. When I did that for the briefest moment, i feel like i messed up spiritually even though I was physically fine and continued to look.
What's weird is that since then, I've had really crappy experiences. From having my vehicle hit three times in parking lots, to almost getting into a head on collision to nearly being electrocuted on a construction site to nearly being crushed by tree. Over and over for the last couple weeks, I feel like death has tried to get me
tonight my mother brought me some personal effects of my uncle and i accepted despite telling her i wanted nothing from the estate. Tonight i also slept next to my fiancé as usual and had the bedroom door open for the dogs could come and go. Sure enough, 2:45 a.m, while I'm doing work on my laptop, t.v. off, no noise in the house with just the nightstand light on, I see a flash or shadow out of the corner of my eye above my screen (my bed faces the door and my laptop was at eye level) and the bedroom door moved ever so slightly making a faint noise. Suddenly, all three of my dogs (Chihuahua in the towel closet on top of laundry 10 feet from my door Yorkie at the end of the hallway and one in bed) go absolutely fcking nuts. My Maltipoo, next to me, foaming at the mouth growing and barking very angry sounds and the other two dogs that i can't see, i imagine are doing the same.
My first instinct was that someone was inside of my house and somehow the dogs let him make it all the way upstairs and didn't alert me until they were at my bedroom door. This being my thought, i slam my laptop down and grab my gun and rush to the door. Pass the threshold, tap off my safety and search. Nothing. I check my laundry room, bathroom nothing....
I go downstairs and turn the lights on. Immediately i see my reflection in the sliding glass door in the dining room and someone standing directly behind me. I turn ready to kill them dead, and there's nothing. I turn on all of the lights on the main floor and keep ready and there's no one in my house. With the adrenaline wearing off, i turn the lights off and go back to the staircase. I look back at the sliding door and decide to check the deck.
I'm a big guy that's armed, noone was outside... Tell me why, when I close the sliding glass door, I see someone run up the staircase in the reflection and it numbs my entire body. Fear like I've never felt in a long time with my entire body feeling cold washes over me and the dogs that stopped barking begin again.
Of course I run up the staircase and there's no one there and of course the dogs calm down immediately. All three dogs, staring off into space all expressing the same thing as myself. "What the fuck"....
Now it's 4 a.m, the dogs are asleep, and everything is quiet. The only things different is that the door is now closed and all the dogs are nearby.

Hi! I just adopted the sweetest little orange kitten girl two days ago and I have never had a cat before so I'm a bit new to this all! I have dogs who used to try and eat bedding and hay from my guinea pig's cage (ew!) so I know they will probably try to get into my kitten's litter box once it is accessible to them.
So, through my research I have decided on pine pellet litter in an enclosed litter box with some kind of sifting mechanism to keep smell down and also to make clean up easier. I know she will use the pellets because right now she has a cheap dollar tree litter box with pine pellets and is using them just fine, thankfully!
My dilemma though is that I can't seem to find anything that actually works online! Is my best option to DIY? I have seen the tidy cats breeze but people are saying the sifting tray is too low to work well/ the plastic is very soft. The arm and hammer tray looks good but it's not hooded!
Is there anything that has worked for you guys? Should I just cut a hole in the side of a plastic bin and cut up some chicken wire for a sift? Wouldn't that leave a lot of sharp edges?
