Previous Chapter
Chapter Eleven:
Walking into a dimly lit basement, I looked down at the cracked concrete floor. The room smelled of old drainage and expired cleaning products. I turned around to see the mirror I’d just crawled out of and caught sight of the Intrinsic Pathways chamber fading back into my reflection.
A simple white plastic border surrounded the glass surface. The thing was barely big enough for me to fit through. Barsilla didn’t have any trouble, though — the benefit of being a piskie and only a few inches tall.
She darted up to my shoulder and hid herself in my hair.
“I’m glad you’ve been growing your hair out,” she said.
A moment later, the piskie stuck her head out of my hair and added, “And I’m also glad you switched to the pineapple and raspberry shampoo.”
I rolled my eyes. Today I was playing carriage to the queen’s left-hand lady in the human world. And I could already tell it was going to be a test of my nerves. I’d never spent an extended time with Barsilla before, primarily because she was a bit scolding and judgmental.
But today came with an important mission before we left for Kilgara tomorrow. We needed to make contact with a powerful fae that lived in the human world.
“How can a fae live in the human world full-time? Wouldn’t that be a death sentence with all the iron and the lack of glamour?” I’d asked my queen.
“You’ll see,” was all she said before sending me here to accompany Barsilla. And by accompany, she meant carry.
The piskie looked around the little room we’d appeared in. It was a small space with concrete walls and floors. Against one wall a shelf of cleaning supplies stood, along with a mop and a janitor’s cart on wheels.
“Where are we?” I asked.
A grimy voice from the ceiling made me jump. I looked around to find the source.
“You’re in the basement of Ssorc Insurance Arena,” a masculine-presenting fae said. When I finally found him, my eyes widened.
In one of the ceiling corners hung a spider-like faery about a foot tall. When I got a closer look, I saw he had the body of a tiny man but a thorax and four narrow legs behind him that clung to the wall.
His front arms were crossed as he looked down at us. Eight brown and black eyes spread across his forehead kept a close watch on us.
“Hello there,” he said, waving a tiny hand. “Name’s Jello. Welcome to Portland.”
I raised a finger and opened my mouth to speak.
“Because he likes to eat Jell-O,” Barsilla said from inside my hair.
I lowered my finger and closed my mouth, nodding. That made plenty of sense. Maybe I could change my name to Chicken Nugget.
“You’re not going to come out and say hello to your old friend, Barsilla?” Jello called with a grin revealing two fangs and additional mandibles.
Her voice called out from in my hair.
“I’m quite good here, thanks.”
I raised an eyebrow. Barsilla sounded a little scared, which was a first for me. I’d always been put in my place by the tiny creature so long as we were in the palace. Here, her voice wavered, and she grabbed my hair a little more tightly than when we first arrived.
Truth be told, I was torn. Part of me wanted to rub it in, maybe jokingly hand her over to the spider dude. And the other half of me wanted to show mercy, because even when I get a chance to show vengeance. . . I’m not good at taking it. It took me years to destroy my abusive father, and he hurt me daily.
So, I decided not to push the issue.
“Alright, Jello. That’s enough,” I said, laughing.
To his credit, the spider didn’t exactly seem upset with me pushing back. He rubbed one of his mandibles and looked me up and down.
“You must be the queen’s new pet I’ve heard so much about,” he said.
“That’s me. Werewolf extraordinaire,” I said.
He nodded.
“It’s almost too difficult to believe. Your kind is so rare that for the queen to have ensnared one. . . I’m just left impressed,” he said.
My. . . kind, I thought. Aside from Mom, I’ve never met another like me. And does she even really count? She died when I was a kid.
All I could do was shrug. Maybe we were rare. But the fact that he wasn’t the first fae to mention such a thing did stick out in my mind. The queen had emotional attachments to me. Of that much, I was sure. But to other fae, ones I’d see at Kilgara. . . I’d be a token — no, a specimen.
It’d be like those videos of rich people who own tigers or lions and just let them roam around the house, lying on the couch and shit.
In that case, I’d just have to be all the more threatening to keep their minds off such imagery and more focused on preserving their own lives. Of course, that’d be up to my inner wolf. And I had no doubt she’d be up to the task. Unlike me, she didn’t take shit from anybody.
“Well, Jello. If you come by Featherstone when the Raven Queen holds court, you can see my more visceral self on full display,” I said. “But until then, I’ll ask where we’re supposed to go from here.”
The spider chuckled and looked into my hair, trying to find a certain piskie with his eyes alone. When he didn’t have any luck, Jello rolled his eyes and pointed to a filthy door covered in dust and mold.
“Out that door, up the cement stairs to your left, and outside by the garage. That’ll spit you out onto a path the humans call Free Street,” Jello said.
I thanked him, and we left without Barsilla saying a word. Once I’d started up the stairs, she poked her head out next to my ear and said, “Just for the record, in Faerie, his kind prey upon piskies. They find the best hiding spots in the forest and then drop on any little fae that happens to be hovering over the ground, looking for nuts or fruit.”
This was a tender confession from the tiny person who’d left me paralyzed on the floor during our first meeting. So I put all that aside before I spoke.
“I figured it was something like that. But it’s not like I would have let him do anything to you,” I said.
“Afraid of how your mistress might react?” Barsilla asked.
Shaking my head, I sighed.
“I just know what it’s like to be a tiny thing standing before a giant monster that wants nothing more than to hurt you. You try to shrink yourself down so that the monster doesn’t see you, but it’s never small enough. I always hoped someone would come along when I was trying to shrink myself and snatch me away. So I guess today I just wanted to be the person that would snatch you to safety,” I said, finally spotting a metal door with sunlight streaming in.
Varella’s left-hand lady didn’t say anything for a moment. But right before we got outside, she spoke.
“That’s actually how her majesty found me, you know? I was in the web of someone like Jello, crying out for help. Most faeries ignore such cries since the forest can be filled with them at times. And if you anger a spider, there’s always the chance they’ll scurry off to a Gohma to have her curse you.”
“A Gohma?” I asked.
Barsilla placed both hands on the back of my ear to steady herself as I climbed the last few steps.
“Queens among the spiderlings. Some of them are quite powerful, and once in a while, they’ll curse anyone who causes trouble with their underlings. That is, they’ll curse anyone. . . except for the ruler of a court. Varella happened to be flying by, heard my cries, and for reasons I’ve never been able to figure out, plucked me from the web. The spiderling that was savoring me was too frightened to say a word. He just hid under a bush, waiting for the Raven Queen to fly away. I’ve served her loyally ever since,” the piskie said.
Holy shit. Am I bonding with the piskie? I thought, again squashing the temptation to say something mocking of the little fae which could and would get revenge when we returned to Featherstone.
At that moment, Lady Bon-Hwa’s words came back to me. She said I craved legitimacy from beings that wore many masks.
Had Barsilla just dropped hers?
“How you felt when she plucked you from the web, Barsilla?” I started. She gripped my ear a little tighter. “That’s how I felt the day I struck the bargain with my mistress. Like she’d pulled me out of the jaws of death or something.”
I heard the piskie rub her chin.
“So when you submit to the queen, it’s about more than a simple pleasure for you. Immense gratitude is also mixed in there somewhere,” she said.
Clearing my throat, I felt heat rush to my cheeks. Barsilla was the last person I wanted to discuss submissiveness with. I’d talk about it with Ceras before her. And even they weren’t high on the list.
Walking outside, I heard the cries of gulls above us and heard a couple boys laughing as their mother walked by with a shopping bag that said “Remys” on it. Now that was a store I remembered. My father dragged me there more times than I could count. And it was always a long haul down to Bangor to visit.
The sky above us was cloudy, and a chilly wind gusted by occasionally, bringing with it smells of a harbor not too far away. A normal person wouldn’t smell it from this distance. But I could smell boat fuel and seafood.
“Do you remember the address?” I asked Barsilla.
“I remember the way from here. The last time I came to the human city of Portland it was through a different pathway. But if you walk down a block and turn left, it’ll spit you out on a path called Congress Street.”
Doing as I was told, I found myself on what appeared the be the busiest street in downtown Portland. Barsilla guided me with whispers to continue onward past the downtown square where a statue of a large woman stood overlooking dozens of people shopping or visiting restaurants or coming out of the public library.
I read a message on the side that said, “To her sons who died for the Union.”
Barsilla whispered, “I’ve never understood that message. What’s the Union? Some kind of human court?”
Sighing and shaking my head, I tried to figure out the easiest way to explain this particularly bloody piece of U.S. history.
“A couple centuries back, this country tore itself in two. There was the Confederacy and the Union. People from Maine, that’s where we are now, fought for the Union, which tried to put the country back together again.”
“Did the Union succeed?”
I nodded.
“They won the war, but a lot of shit happened afterward I don’t want to get into. And when I left this place to move into Featherstone — well, let’s just say I’d rather live in Faerie than any part of this world,” I said.
With the guidance of Varella’s left-hand lady, we continued walking down Congress Street for at least a mile before she told me to make a turn. We walked past an old Italian grocery store, turned again, and finally arrived at a dentist's office.
“Big Smiles? What kind of name is that?” I asked, looking inside.
“The name of a business where mortals go to get their teeth fixed because they don’t have glamour to do it for them. Consider yourself fortunate the palace healers make this place unnecessary in Faerie,” Barsilla said, tapping on my ear for me to go inside.
Sighing, I did as I was told. . . again.
Unlike most dentist’s offices I’d been in, this one was immaculately clean and polished. Behind two receptionists stood a wall covered entirely in ivy. And it was real. I smelled its vegetative scent from where I stood.
To my right stood a glass wall with a water feature running underneath the reflective surface.
A little transparent refrigerator sat next to some uncomfortable wooden chairs, and it was filled with bottled water.
“Hi there!” one of the receptionists said. He appeared to be freshly graduated from college and wore a button-down shirt and black pants. His nametag said “Jace,” and had “He/Him” pronouns listed underneath.
“Uh, hi,” I said, trying to remember the coded message my mistress taught me before leaving Featherstone. “I need to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. I’m trying to get the shinest teeth in all the land.”
I resisted the urge to slap my face in embarrassment. What kind of stupid code was that? This receptionist was just as likely to throw me out as he was to find me a nightmare fae by the name of Dramyra.
Jace snickered a little and said, “Well, who doesn’t love shiny teeth? And we’ve got a great new polishing technique our dentists just started using this month.”
An older woman’s voice spoke from behind me.
“That won’t be necessary, Jace. I’ll see her now.”
Jace looked surprised.
“Are you sure, Dr. Murphy? I think you’ve got an appointment in 15,” he said.
The voice behind me waved off his concern.
“Just have Melissa take care of that one. This is important.”
Jace scratched his wavy brown hair and nodded before punching something into his keyboard. I could only assume he was editing an appointment at the last minute.
When I turned to see who’d been giving orders to the receptionist, I spotted a woman who appeared to be in her early 50s leaning around a corner. She wore a long white jacket and had eyes the color of jasper. As I stared, she blinked horizontally instead of vertically like every other human I’d met.
As my eyes widened, she smiled, and I noticed an inhuman pointedness to her teeth. . . all four rows of them.
“Why don’t you come this way, and I’ll get you settled?” the fae said.
I gulped and nodded, suddenly getting the heebie-jeebies from this person I was going to follow into a private area.
Dr. Murphy led me past an X-ray room, a couple rooms with kid-sized dentist seats and small televisions mounted on the roof, and an employee bathroom.
At last, we came to her private office, and she opened the door, motioning for me to enter. When I hesitated, she said, “Oh come now. I wouldn’t be so foolish as to harm one hair on the Raven Queen’s pet. Few would be that dumb.”
Walking inside the surprisingly plain office, I was greeted by a tiny sofa, a mini fridge, a marker board, and a skylight. The walls were painted beige, and a desktop computer sat over in the corner on a screensaver with fish swimming by.
I took a seat on the sofa, and our faerie host closed the door behind us, locking it, which caused me to gulp again.
As soon as the door was closed, the fae dropped her glamor, and before me stood a five-foot-tall woman with pointed ears, turquoise skin, and a shaved head. When she smiled, I saw those four rows of razor teeth and two tongues, one purple, one red.
Her eyes now blinked vertically every few seconds, and they were the color of sand.
Black curled horns hung down from the back of the faerie’s skull, wrapping around her ears and ending in spiky white tips.
The faerie leaned against her door and stared down at her claws, which were painted a shade of crimson.
“Dramyra,” Barsilla said, flying out from my hair and bowing her head. “It’s been some time.”
The fae did not seem very impressed at the piskie’s sudden appearance.
“Well well. . . if it isn’t the Raven Queen’s left-hand lady. I don’t recall receiving a letter warning of your arrival.”
Now I spoke up, bowing my head.
“Apologies. The queen has been busy preparing for a trip to Kilgara. She didn’t mean to offend by sending us without an announced arrival,” I said.
I shivered when Dramyra’s sandy eyes looked me over. It felt like. . . like it wasn’t just her eyes watching me, but her shadow’s eyes as well. And I didn’t like that one bit. She smelled of vetiver and leather. It was a strange combination that seemed to whisper much more was hiding beneath the surface.
“First time seeing a nightara?” Dramyra asked, watching me shiver for the third time in the last hour. It wasn’t like the room was cold. Rather, it felt like her glamor kept brushing up against me and light scraping over my arms.
“What’s a—” I started, rather stupidly.
Barsilla cut me off.
“Dramyra is a nightmare faerie. Her sister rules the Nightmare Court.”
“Well just give her my life story, why don’t you, Barsilla?” Dramyra sassed, folding her arms and locking with my eyes.
The room fell silent.
I sure as hell didn’t know what to say, so I did what I always did in that situation. . . asked a dumb question.
“Excuse me, Dramyra?”
She smiled at me.
“Yes, royal pet?”
I do not like it when she calls me that, I thought. In fact, I don’t like it when she calls me anything.
Taking a deep breath as Barsilla turned to flash me a look that said, “Be careful, puppy,” I raised an eyebrow.
“My mistress said you lived here in the human world permanently. I was wondering. . . how you survived here in a world of iron and without any glamour?”
Dramyra ran a finger down one of her arms.
“Well, for starters, all of my tools here in the office aren’t made of iron. They’re custom designed from silver. Not an ounce of iron here. And I assure you, I have all the glamour I need.”
I must have looked like I had more questions because Dramyra pointed a finger at me.
“You must not have a solid grasp on how glamour works. Glamour isn’t something that just exists naturally in this world or Faerie. Rather, fae produce glamour by feeding. Different fae feed in different ways. Your queen feeds off your affections as well as the power of her throne itself. And I. . . well, I feed off the fear of others.”
That sounded pretty damn terrifying. . . which I’m sure was exactly the effect Dramyra must have intended because she just laughed when I slunk down into the couch.
“Oh relax. It’s not so bad. I learned a few decades ago that there are some things mortals fear collectively as a species. And one of them?”
It clicked in my head.
“The dentist! I fucking hated visiting the dentist. Growing up, there was no place more terrifying. With every visit, I was petrified that I needed yet another filling or maybe even a root canal.”
Dramyra looked pleased with my figuring it out.
“Exactly. So, knowing this, I disguised myself as a dentist, opened this business, and the mortals bring me their terrified children every single day. All I have to do is walk up and down the hall with a mask on my face, looking at paperwork, and nobody suspects a thing. The entire office fills with fear, which I devour, and then I can produce all the glamour I need.”
When I realized this, it was kind of ingenious. This was like. . . the ultimate business model for a nightmare fae like Dramyra. And if this place went belly up, she could always disguise herself as an IRS agent. Though that might get her more anger than fear.
Barsilla cleared her throat.
“Oh, yes. You were getting ready to explain why you showed up without warning. Well, go on, little piskie,” Dramyra said, her smile fading as she turned her attention back to Varella’s left-hand lady.
Pulling out her little clipboard and an even smaller pencil, the piskie looked over a few things as if she was steadying herself for what had to be said.
“Queen Varella is officially calling in her favor. Decades ago, she hid you—”
“I know why I owe her,” Dramyra snapped, her sandy eyes glowing orange. “You can skip that part.”
Barsilla quickly crossed something off on her papers.
“Right, well, she wants you to make a request to your sister, the Nightmare Queen. Her majesty informed me Queen Trylla will grant you anything you ask of her.”
The nightara rubbed her chin as she leaned against the wall even more.
“It’s true. My little sister adores me. Though I don’t know what the Raven Queen would want from her.”
I looked back and forth between the fae, finding myself wondering about how my mistress hid the nightmare fae before me. What were the circumstances? Was it a witness protection kind of thing? Did faeries even have need of that?
It’s not like they can call some vacuum store and vanish to Alaska, I thought, scratching the back of my head.
Barsilla looked down at her notes, not meeting Dramyra’s eyes when she relayed my mistress’ request.
“The Raven Queen wants you to ask your sister for her vote in Kilgara.”
Silence filled the room again as I heard Barsilla’s tiny heart beating like that of a hummingbird. She was sweating a little, too. But Dramyra’s mood changed almost instantly. She laughed louder than I’d heard before and threw her head back.
“Ahahahaha! So, Queen Varella is making a move for Bliss. How interesting! Not in a thousand years would I have guessed such a thing. That ought to make for a very interesting summit with the other courts.
Suddenly this mission of great importance made more sense. My mistress sent us to cash in a favor so she could try and stack the deck before we gathered with the other rulers of Faerie to decide who would host Bliss.
The nightara locked eyes with me, and I felt more gooseflesh crawling over my arms and thighs. I really wished she would stop doing that.
“Very well, piskie. I will do as the Raven Queen asks. It’s not like I have the power to refuse a favor when I’m in her debt. So you may scurry back with the young wolf here and tell her at least one vote is safely in her corner,” Dramyra said. “As for you, Sierra, I hope you're ready to meet folks even scarier than me. And I’d stick real close to that mistress of yours once you leave the halls of Featherstone. You have no idea just how many lords and ladies of Faerie would love to have themselves a pet werewolf. You’re quite—”
“Rare,” I finished for her. “I’ve heard it before.”
I sounded agitated, but I was just trying to mask my fear. I’d happily submit to my mistress a thousand times. But I was no fool. I knew there were cruel immortals all through Faerie that would find worse ways to hurt me than my father ever could have.
And we were off to a summit where they’d all be gathered.
As we left the dentist, I hoped and prayed my inner wolf had gotten at least a few memories of today and would understand she needed to carry the visage of an absolute killer.
I didn’t want to end up in the clutches of a nightara. . . or worse.

50 Most Expensive Cars In The World
From Aston Martin to Zenvo, these are the most expensive supercars and hypercars ever made.

When it comes to high-end hypercars and super-fast supercars, a few companies should come to mind first: Bugatti, Ferrari, Koenigsegg, Rimac, and Pagani, among others. These manufacturers have cemented themselves as the top dogs in the supercar and hypercar space, extending to their wealthiest clientele the fastest, rarest, prettiest – and in this case – most expensive cars on the planet.

But in order to find out which of these unattainable-to-most vehicles is the priciest, we've scoured the invoice sheets and uncovered 50 cars all worth $1 million or more. The group includes hybrid Ferrari convertibles, an American speed king, a few electric Hypercars, and two a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce cars built for royalty.

We should note, though: The prices listed here are the price of the vehicles when new. So we’re not counting auction cars like the Ferrari 250 GTO, or overpriced secondhand sales. But don’t worry, there’s still hundreds of millions worth of cars here to whet your appetite.

De Tomaso P72
Price: $1.3 Million

https://preview.redd.it/mjblep6rhp4b1.png?width=792&format=png&auto=webp&s=149247570ee682082950e1787e40083e24f57051
The De Tomaso P72 is basically the definition of beautiful. The shapely supercar debuted at the 2019 Goodwood Festival Of Speed with a supercharged Ford V8 boasting 700 horsepower. The P72 marked the return of the DeTomaso brand after nearly 30 years on hiatus, and if you want one, it will cost you at least $1.3 million.

Ferrari LaFerrari
Price: $1.4 Million

https://preview.redd.it/t4kl320thp4b1.png?width=757&format=png&auto=webp&s=9d2282fd95775dc58d6118391242ed90517c6034
At $1.4 million new, the Ferrari LaFerrari is actually one of the most affordable supercars on this list. It’s a bargain compared to the most expensive vehicle here. Debuting in 2013 with 950 hybrid horses (708 kilowatts) and a top speed of around 220 miles per hour (354 kilometers per hour), this is still Ferrari’s fastest and most powerful production model to date. The company built just 499 examples of the coupe between 2013 and 2016.

Pagani Huayra
Price: $1.4 Million

https://preview.redd.it/xf170icwhp4b1.png?width=767&format=png&auto=webp&s=28006f844a123d2cc340c1a2bb3a9386e620156d
Inarguably one of the prettiest cars on this list, the Pagani Huayra cost a cool $1.4 million when new. Like the LaFerrari, Pagani built the Huayra in extremely limited numbers. The company hand-constructed just 100 units of the coupe between 2012 and 2018, with another 20 versions of the BC model (which makes our list further down) between 2017 and 2019. Powering each and every example was a Mercedes-AMG V12 capable of 720 horsepower (537 kilowatts).

McLaren Elva
Price: $1.7 Million

https://preview.redd.it/u1pszk9zhp4b1.png?width=752&format=png&auto=webp&s=2deeae7d004708695939b260d6154cc765ac75fc
The McLaren Elva is one of the latest additions to the British supercar maker’s storied legacy. Even without a proper windshield (though, no option) or roof to rely on, the Elva produces 804 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque from its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. Originally McLaren announced just 399 units, but later the company dropped that to an even more scarce 249 examples. Either way, most of you will never get your hands on one – the Elva costs $1.7 million.

Czinger 21C
Price: $1.7 Million

https://preview.redd.it/nfw8pcp0ip4b1.png?width=725&format=png&auto=webp&s=4153021794d8da48eb2f4f72ef891bf4abd043d9
You might not know the name Czinger yet, but this California-based boutique automaker is responsible for the $1.7 million 21C supercar. With 1,250 horsepower on tap thanks to a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the 21C can rocket to 60 miles per hour in 1.9 seconds and a top speed of around 281 miles per hour.

Ferrari Monza
Price: $1.7 Million

https://preview.redd.it/94veko45ip4b1.png?width=751&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee2d70f541a084d60b4b7f5911ac7c40ba75f392
Much like the roof-less McLaren Elva, the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2 are all about al fresco motoring. As the name implies, the SP1 is the single-seater option while the SP2 has just enough room for you to bring along a friend. Both cars come powered by the same naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine capable of 809 horsepower and 530 pound-feet. Unfortunately for US buyers, neither of these models are street legal in the States. But f you have the funds to afford the car’s $1.75 million price tag, getting onto a track probably won’t be an issue anyway.

Gordon Murray T.33
Price: $1.7 Million

The second and slightly more affordable supercar in the new Gordon Murray lineup is the T.33. With 607 horsepower courtesy of a naturally aspirated 3.9-liter V12, the T.33 revs to a ridiculous 10,500 RPM. With a price tag of around $1.7 million at current conversion rates, Gordon Murray automotive promises to sell this car globally, in both right- and left-hand-drive configurations. Too bad it's already sold out.

Koenigsegg Gemera
Price: $1.7 Million

https://preview.redd.it/t8kr9umcip4b1.png?width=716&format=png&auto=webp&s=b08f32b152e3ada414fdbe0bb2548a9202d710f1
One of two Koenigsegg models on this list, the Gemera is actually the Swedish supercar maker’s first four-seater. But that doesn’t mean it’s some family car. With a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter engine under the hood and three electric motors, the Gemera has 1,700 horsepower and will hit 60 in just 1.9 seconds. The company only plans to build 300 of them, each one costing at least $1.7 million.

Zenvo TSR-S
Price: $1.7 Million

https://preview.redd.it/zibamv9fip4b1.png?width=719&format=png&auto=webp&s=a0a61769b3592745b135a63d75e3cae2091fdb9e
Hailing from Denmark, the Zenvo TSR-S debuted in 2018 at the Geneva Motor Show as the most extreme option in the supercar startup’s repertoire. Boasting a twin-charged 5.8-liter V8 engine, the TSR-S produces 1,177 horsepower and will hit 62 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds. Expect to pay at least $1.7 million to get your hands on this powerful and limited supercar.

Hennessey Venom F5
Price: $1.8 Million

https://preview.redd.it/z4t9h6rgip4b1.png?width=729&format=png&auto=webp&s=045e4293fbebbce15713f030ddc7337121df771b
The Hennessey Venom GT was a record-breaker, topping out at 265.7 miles per hour in a world record run. But the new F5 plans to beat its predecessor with an estimated top speed of 311 mph, and with that comes a higher price, too. The Venom F5 starts at $1.8 million, according to the company, which makes it just a bit pricier than its $1.2-million predecessor.

Bentley Bacalar
Price: $1.9 Million

https://preview.redd.it/eg198abjip4b1.png?width=741&format=png&auto=webp&s=4e74bd713fab000673d741fe8b72b20b6b80a91f
With just 12 total units produced, the Bentley Bacalar makes some of the "limited" cars on this list look plentiful by comparison. Although the car’s opulent design may be the first thing to grab your attention, the Bacalar is no slouch in terms of performance either. With Bentley’s signature turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 turbocharged engine, this car delivers 650 horsepower and 664 pound-feet. If you have a spare $1.9 million lying around and are considering buying one, you’re already too late – Bentley says that every example is now in customer hands.

Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne
Price: $1.9 Million

https://preview.redd.it/29pz2mukip4b1.png?width=733&format=png&auto=webp&s=32d49b6722dc434b125827bf432cc8b1c4f98e9b
To call the Hispano Suiza Carmen Boulogne beautiful would be... a stretch. But this interesting-looking supercar made its US debut at this year's Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance boasting a 1,114-horsepower electric powertrain and a 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds. The Boulogne version pictured here – the lighter and more powerful of the two – costs close to $1.9 million.

Bentley Mulliner Batur
Price: $2.0 Million

https://preview.redd.it/ejs2msmnip4b1.png?width=741&format=png&auto=webp&s=6fb981efa05ddb8d6c659b5f92e3f456491bd587
The electric onslaught is coming. Bentley says it will be a fully electric automaker by 2030. But before the luxury brand transitions to battery power fully, the Mulliner Batur helps send the iconic W12 engine off in style. With 710 horsepower from that twin-turbocharged engine, the Batur is the most powerful Bentley ever. And since it's limited to just 18 examples globally, the Batur costs a whopping $2.0 million.

Deus Vayanne
Price: $2.0 Million

https://preview.redd.it/fyi22i5pip4b1.png?width=701&format=png&auto=webp&s=82912cd2d17db05bd95226b0c7c7ebbf9e18779a
The Deus Vayanne may not be a household name (yet), but the all-electric hypercar debuted earlier this year with 2,200 horsepower, a 0-60 time of just under 2.0 seconds, and an estimated top speed of 248 miles per hour. Deus plans to build 99 examples of the Vayanne, with the first few examples scheduled to go on sale in 2025.

SSC Tuatara
Price: $2.0 Million*

https://preview.redd.it/7zgzhptrip4b1.png?width=691&format=png&auto=webp&s=3e9120a40cdc3b632d111a9a5f2e319fe8cb80a9
Although initially cloaked in controversy, SSC did manage to hit 282.9 miles per hour with its Tuatara hypercar, breaking a world record. But not only is the Tuatara one of the fastest vehicles on the planet, it’s also one of the priciest. The cost for all that speed is estimated to be around $2.0 million for the base Tuatara, limited to just 100 units worldwide.

Lotus Evija
Price: $2.1 Million

https://preview.redd.it/u7dfyfktip4b1.png?width=747&format=png&auto=webp&s=7776ac62b93857b837349a32d4ad53f8ee039f03
With a new Emira sports car and an Eletre electric SUV, Lotus is on the brink of a comeback. The automaker plans to roll out a number of new products within the next few years, with part of that strategy including the range-topping Evija. This supercar comes in at a cool $2.1 million and produces nearly 2,000 horsepower via four electric motors. Lotus plans to build just 130 road-going examples of the Evija.

Aston Martin Vulcan
Price: $2.3 Million

https://preview.redd.it/72pt3tuwip4b1.png?width=722&format=png&auto=webp&s=d072fdedce7c750383bb869098d8a084c63b78a8
As with a few other cars on this list, the Aston Martin Vulcan was a track-only special. The British supercar made its world debut in 2015, powered by a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V12 that produced 820 horsepower, and limited to just 24 examples worldwide. An even more track-focused AMR Pro model followed, but even the base Vulcan was a pricey commodity, costing about $2.4-million from the factory.

Delage D12
Price: $2.3 Million

https://preview.redd.it/hund9f6zip4b1.png?width=735&format=png&auto=webp&s=ea7d67259c6737bc321ca5d947870da4a46d5db4
You may have heard of Delage before. In the early 1900s, this French automaker was competing on the track with Bugatti and Ferrari. Now Delage is back and with a beautiful new hypercar dubbed the D12. Powered by a 7.6-liter V12 engine, the new D12 produces upwards of 1,010 horsepower and costs a cool $2.3 million.

McLaren Speedtail
Price: $2.3 Million

What would you pay for the fastest production McLaren ever? Well, at least $2.3 million. With 1,035 horsepower courtesy of a gasoline-electric hybrid V8 powertrain, the Speedtail tops out at 250 miles per hour and is able to reach 186 mph in just 12.8 seconds – 2.7 seconds faster than the P1. Unfortunately, if you didn't get your hands on one new in 2020, you'll have to shell out serious cash on the used market. McLaren only built 106 examples.

Rimac Nevera
Price: $2.4 Million

The Rimac Nevera takes the title of most expensive EV with its $2.4 million price tag – but only by a few hundred thousand dollars over the next priciest electric supercar. Packing 1,914 horsepower and 1,740 pound-feet of torque, the Nevera can hit 60 in under 2.0 seconds and will continue on to a top speed of 258 miles per hour. Those lucky enough to order one should see it in their driveway before the end of 2022.

Pagani Utopia
Price: $2.5 Million

First came the Zonda, then the Huayra, and now the Pagani Utopia. With 852 horsepower and an available seven-speed manual gearbox, the Utopia is the most powerful road-going Pagani ever produced and it’s limited to just 99 examples worldwide. The cost for one is a cool $2.5 million.

Pininfarina Battista
Price: $2.5 Million

Aptly named after the company’s founder, Battista Farina, the Pininfarina Battista delivers the kind of performance (and price!) to make its namesake proud. Revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show, the Battista is completely electric, putting out 1,827 horsepower. If a normal supercar’s 0 to 60 time sounds too leisurely for you, the company says that the Battista will take you there in under 2.0 seconds. Pininfarina plans on building 150 examples of the Battista, costing $2.5 million each.

Ferrari FXX K Evo
Price: $2.6 Million

Sure, you could buy a normal LaFerrari (which also makes the list further down), but why settle for a supercar so mundane when you can take home this track-only version instead? Granted, the Ferrari FXX K Evo came out in 2017, and it's well past the point of being sold out. But when it was new, this 1,036-horsepower Ferrari tore up the track with its naturally aspirated V12 and aggressive aerodynamics.

Gordon Murray T.50
Price: $2.6 Million

If the name Gordon Murray sounds familiar, it’s because he's the man behind the design of the iconic McLaren F1. These days, Mr. Murray has his own supercar venture, and the handsome T.50 is the crown jewel of the lineup. At $2.6 million, the T.50 packs a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V12 that makes 654 horsepower. The car itself weighs a mere 2,174 pounds, and at 392 pounds, the T.50 has the lightest V12 on the road today.

Lamborghini Countach
Price: $2.6 Million

The name Countach may be iconic, but is it worth $2.6 million? That's what Lamborghini hopes you will spend on its new Aventador-based model. Debuting in August of 2021, the Countach LPI 800-4 has a 6.5-liter V12 with a light hybrid assist that gives it a whopping 803 horsepower, allowing for a 60 time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of more than 220 miles per hour.

Mercedes-AMG Project One
Price: $2.7 Million

Mercedes has promised a production version of the Project One hypercar for quite a while now. The first official announcement was in March of 2017 before the first concept debuted later that same year. But after nearly five years of teasing, it appears as if the Project One will finally hit public roads. And when it does, the hybrid hypercar will have over 1,200 horsepower (895 kilowatts) and a price tag of $2.7 million.

Aston Martin Victor
Price: $3.0 Million

The folks at Aston Martin know a thing or two about exclusive vehicles, and the Victor might be the most exclusive project for the British brand to date. Based on the One-77 platform, the Victor uses parts from several donor Astons including the track project Vulcan and the upcoming Valkyrie. And talking about limited production – the Victor is one-of-one and rumored to cost nearly $3 million.

Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster
$3.0 Million

The same Hennessey Venom F5 hypercar we all know and love, but with less roof. The F5 Roadster has the same twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V8 as the coupe, producing the same 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 pound-feet of torque. Hennessey estimates a top speed of over 300 miles per hour, but if you want one, it will cost you at least $3.0 million.

Koenigsegg Jesko
Price: $3.0 Million

The Koenigsegg Jesko, apart from being the fastest car the company has made to date, is also the most expensive. At $3.0 million out of the box, the handsome hypercar has 1,600-horsepower courtesy of the brand's ubiquitous twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine. Opt for the Absolut model, and the Jesko, in theory, will be able to hit 300 miles per hour.

Aston Martin Valkyrie
Price: $3.2 Million

The upcoming Aston Martin hybrid hypercar hasn’t even hit the market yet, but already the $3.2 million Valkyrie has sold out. For what it’s worth, Aston Martin hasn’t officially released pricing. Estimates suggest the hypercar could go for anywhere between $2.6 and $3.9 million – but $3.2 million seems to be the magic number. Whatever the case, this machine is impressive. Its Cosworth-sourced 6.5-liter V12 produces 1,160 horsepower (865 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque, meaning its top speed should be well over 200 miles per hour (321 kilometers per hour). The company will build just 150 examples of the standard Valkyrie, with a limited 25-run AMR model arriving later.

W Motors Lykan Hypersport
Price: $3.4 Million

Dubai-based W Motors shocked the world with its edgy Lykan Hypersport supercar in 2013. With titanium LED headlights housing 420 15-carat diamonds and a holographic display in the center console, it's no surprise it was the third most expensive car ever when new. It falls to number six on our list here, but it's still a wild hypercar with a powerful heart; the twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine underhood produces 780 horsepower (581 kilowatts) and 708 (960 Newton-meters) of torque.

McLaren Solus
$3.5 Million

One seat, 829 horsepower, and a top speed of over 200 miles per hour. The new McLaren Solus is about as close as you can get to a Formula 1 car from the factory, powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine with a 0-62 mile-per-hour time of just 2.5 seconds. Estimates suggest a McLaren Solus will set you back about $3.5 million.

Pagani Huayra Roadster BC
Price: $3.5 Million

Following Pagani’s past playbook, a roadster version of the ferocious Huayra BC was inevitable. Last year, the company made it official by showing off the Huayra Roadster BC, a topless monster with 800 horsepower (597 kilowatts) and 774 lb-ft of torque (1049 Newton-meters). Somewhat surprisingly, Pagani gave the roadster 50 more horsepower than its coupe sibling, by cranking up its AMG-sourced twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12. In addition to the joy of hearing the glorious engine note without a roof in the way, owners should take comfort in knowing that their car is ultra-rare. Pagani is limiting production to just 40 units, each with a sticker price of $3.5 million.

Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport
Price: $3.6 Million

Another showstopper from the Geneva Motor Show that never was, the Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport is a special edition Chiron with a focus on aerodynamics, weight reduction, and power distribution. It’s the same 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 engine underneath the skin but it’s now mated to a recalibrated automatic gearbox. While the peak output remains unchanged at 1,500 horsepower (1,103 kilowatts), the rpm redline has been set 200 rpm higher, up to 6,900 rpm. The Pur Sport also features slightly revised bodywork, with a bigger rear wing and more aerodynamic front fascia. Beginning production in late 2020, the Bugatti starts at $3.6 million.

Lamborghini Sian
Price: $3.6 million

In several ways, the Sian represents a bridge to Lamborghini’s future. Though it’s based on the Aventador SVJ, this wild-looking Lambo is the brand’s first production electrified offering. In addition to the SVJ-sourced 6.5-liter V12, the Sian uses a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. Total system output is 819 horsepower (611 kilowatts), which also makes it the most powerful Lamborghini ever. As confirmed by the 63 stuck on either side of the Sian’s wing, Lamborghini will produce just 63 units. And each will cost far more than the Aventador SVJ, carrying a price of $3.6 million.

Koenigsegg CC850
Price: $3.7 Million

The Koenigsegg CC850 was a surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one. Borrowing the twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 from the Jesko, it notches that output up to 1,385 horsepower and 1,022 pound-feet of torque, with a so-called “TWMPAFMPC” transmission that shifts (pun intended) between manual and automatic functions. Of course, all that performance technology will cost you; the CC850 starts at $3.7 million.

Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
Price: $3.9 Million

Earlier this year, Bugatti captured the collective attention of the automotive world by announcing that it broke the 300 miles per hour barrier with a modified version of the Chiron. The Super Sport 300 + is a road-going version of that car, meant to celebrate the occasion. Limited to just 30 units, the Super Sport 300+ is a beautiful version of the Chiron, with flowing, slippery bodywork and a sweet stripe motif. Despite having hit 304.8 mph on the track with a production vehicle, Bugatti does limit its Chiron 300+ to 273 mph in top speed mode.

Lamborghini Veneno
Price: $4.5 Million

Lamborghini built just 14 examples of the Aventador-based Veneno between 2014 and 2015. Each one cost around $4.5 million, depending on how it was spec'd, and was available in both convertible and coupe configurations. Underhood Lamborghini fitted a more-powerful iteration of the Aventador's 6.5-liter V12, now producing 740 horsepower (552 kilowatts) and 509 pound-feet (609 Newton-meters) of torque, which gave it the ability to sprint to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in a blistering 2.9 seconds. To date, it’s the most expensive new Lamborghini ever.

Bugatti Bolide
Price: $4.7 Million

Produced in extremely limited numbers atop the body of a Chiron, it's no wonder Bugatti's one-of-40 Bolide track car is this pricey. At $4.7 million, the 1,824-horsepower hypercar has more power than the Chiron Super Sport 300+, and more extreme bodywork that allow it to lap tracks like the Nurburgring in record time (in theory). Bugatti says the Bolide would be able to conquer the ‘Ring in record time.

Bugatti Mistral
Price: $5.0 Million

The Bugatti Mistral sends the iconic W16 engine off in style. With 1,577 horsepower and no roof, the Mistral takes the best bits of the Chiron and borrows elements from the Bolide and Divo to create a truly unique roadster. Of course, Bugatti plans to build just 99 examples of the Mistral at the cost of around $5.0 million in the US – and all of them are already accounted for.

Pagani Huayra Imola
Price: $5.4 Million

Even though the new Utopia marks the next big step for Pagani, the Huayra Imola packs nearly as much power with a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine producing 827 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque. The Huayra Imola is estimated to cost around $5.4 million new, which would make it the second most expensive Pagani of all time.

Bugatti Divo
Price: $5.8 Million

Among Bugatti’s recently debuted vehicles, the Divo is a staff favorite. Though it shares much in common with its cheaper (!) sibling the Chiron, the Divo has a lot going for it to justify the extra money. By adding lighter wheels, a carbon fiber intercooler and removing some sound deadening, Bugatti made the Divo 77 pounds lighter than the Chiron. Though power is unchanged from the Chiron’s 1,500 ponies (1,119 kilowatts), The Divo features a different aerodynamic setup, which makes it 8 seconds quicker around the Nardo test track. Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for: Bugatti is making 40 examples of the car, each costing $5.8 million.

SP Automotive Chaos
Price: $6.4 Million

SP Automotive (short for Spyros Panopoulos) is a new name in the world of hypercars, but the brand's 2,000-horsepower, $6.4-million, aptly named Chaos has already made an impact. With a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V10, the base SP Automotive Chaos is one of the most expensive cars on this list – beating out many Lambos and Bugattis – but there's an even pricier version of this car that costs an eye-watering $14.4 million. That version reportedly packs 3,000 hp.

Pagani Codalunga
Price: $7.4 Million

The long list of pricey (new) Paganis ends with the Codualunga. Inspired by 1960s Italian coachbuilding, the stunning exterior and steampunk-esque interior – while equally stunning – are only part of what makes this Pagani so pricey. Under the hood is a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 producing 829 horsepower and 809 pound-feet of torque, paired to a seven-speed sequential transmission for a real race-car–like feel. The cost for this one-of-five Pagani is $7.4 million.

Mercedes-Maybach Exelero
Price: $8.0 Million

Like many others before it, the Mercedes-Benz Maybach Exelero is a one-off. Commissioned by Fulda, a German subsidiary of Goodyear, to test its new tires, the Exlero debuted in 2004. Mercedes built the Exelero on the bones of a Maybach, and gave it the same twin-turbo V12 engine producing 690 horsepower (510 kilowatts) and 752 pound-feet (1,020 Newton-meters) of torque. Top speed is listed at 218 miles per hour (350 kilometers per hour) and adjusted for inflation, the Exelero would cost more than $10 million in today's money.

Bugatti Centodieci
Price: $9.0 Million

Bugatti debuted the Centodieci at last year’s Pebble Beach car week, showing off yet another ultra-rare, super-expensive model to the world. Limited to just 10 – dieci – units, the car is a modern throwback to the Bugatti EB110. At the same time, it’s meant to celebrate Bugatti’s momentous 110-year anniversary. Its unique styling cues won’t make everyone fall in love, but at least you won’t have to worry about seeing another one on the road. Carrying a price just shy of $9 million, the Centodiece is one of the most exclusive cars ever made.

Bugatti Chiron Profilée
Price: $10.8 Million

While it may not look that different from a normal Chiron, the Profilée is quite literally one-of-a-kind. Bugatti built it initially as a test for a limited run of Profilée models, but this Chiron ended up being the only example. Boasting the same 1,476-horsepower quad-turbocharged W16 engine ubiquitous throughout the Chiron range, the Profilée has unique bodywork and a custom spoiler that helps separate it from the rest of the range.

Rolls-Royce Sweptail
Price: $12.8 Million

Rolls-Royce, expectedly, takes two of the top three spots on this list, with the stunning Sweptail one-off from 2017 coming in at number three. With a monumental price tag of $13.0 million, it was, at the time of its debut, the most expensive new car ever. It's been outpriced since then, but the 453-horsepower luxury car is still a jaw-dropper.

Bugatti La Voiture Noire
Price: $13.4 Million

With a price tag of $13.4 million, the one-off Bugatti La Voiture Noire is officially the most expensive new Bugatti ever made. And understandably so. A modern interpretation of Jean Bugatti's personal Type 57 SC Atlantic, the La Voiture Noire uses the same quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine as the Chiron, producing 1,479 horsepower. It has six – that's right, six exhaust tips, radical new wheels, an aggressive, bespoke fascia, and a gigantic light-up badge in the rear that spells out the name of the brand. Of course, this one-of-one Bugatti already has a home.

Rolls-Royce Boat Tail*
Price: $28.0 Million (est.)

Rolls-Royce is back in the business of coachbuilding with the gorgeous new Boat Tail. A successor to the stunning Sweptail from 2017 – which itself cost a reported $12.8 million – the Boat Tail has a unique two-tone exterior, custom high-end finishes inside, and even a "hosting suite" complete with a champagne fridge and built-in sun umbrella. Although Rolls-Royce doesn’t officially announce pricing for one-off builds such as this, rumor has it that the Boat Tail cost a whopping $28.0 million new.

Arc: Road Trip!
Written by Deadislandman1
Edited by UpinthatBuckethead

The high pitched whine of the cargo plane slowly wound down, its turbine-assisted wings quieting with the shutdown of the behemoth’s engine. The denizens inside, the remaining members of the Suicide Squad, took this as a sign that they had finally made it to their destination. Flag grabbed a duffel bag, which contained what was left of his belongings after they had totalled their RVs, while the squad simply collected themselves, preparing to step off the plane. The bay door unlocked, slowly lowered until it hit the runway, and the Squad was hit by that familiar mix of heat and humidity.
“Goddamn,” said Raptor, a heavy sense of exhaustion in his voice. “It sucks to be back.”
Flag sighed before stepping off the plane and onto the runway, making the long walk towards a boat set to take them to the prison proper. They had landed on a secret runway out in the swamp, and now it was time to make the final leg of the journey. The rest of the squad followed suit, though in a variety of different states. Dante had ditched his metal suit with the return to a climate with more moisture, yet he also wasn’t entirely covered up in bandages. He allowed his skin to be out and about…free. He didn’t care that the gym shorts and white t-shirt seemed strange when set with his long scarred flesh, he was just happy to feel a bit more like himself again. A bit more normal.
Nicholas was carrying Adella on his back. She had fallen asleep on the flight over, and he didn’t want to wake her. It wasn’t much of an effort, he could flip a car with the flick of a finger, but being gentle, being delicate…that was something he was never taught. Weapons are crafted to harm, not to comfort, Nicholas found he took to the task surprisingly well.
Raptor was sweating up a storm, begrudgingly flipping back his hood to make sure he wasn’t being oven-roasted. The journey had been a rocky one for most, and Raptor couldn’t lie, the road trip over the past month had been one of the bumpiest rides he’d ever had, but truth be told, a part of him was probably going to remember most of it fondly. Still, the remaining bits would also be tainted permanently by Mitchell Mayo’s demise. He hadn’t gotten to know him super well, but he considered him to be a good guy.
Croc felt similarly, though right now he was feeling a lot better about the heat. This was his kind of climate, just like back home where he grew up. If it weren’t for the bomb in his neck, he’d jump into the river for a dip, like a kid rushing into the ocean for the first time. It was almost a pity that they only really ended up near a few city rivers, where the water would probably cause you to grow an extra toe or two.
And then there was Harley, who was clearly not as relieved as everyone else for the trip to be over. Her partner was gone, and while she knew that the team was there for her, it was going to take a damn long time to work through what happened. She could barely feel the heat as she got onto the boat, grabbing a more cushioned seat before lying down in it. Flag dropped his bag to the side and took the helm, starting the engine as everyone else piled in.
Flag himself was, to put it mildly, weary. A kernel of anger had made its home at the back of his brain, a fury at the fact that Waller had yet again refused to tell him everything. However, he wasn’t chomping at the bit to get some answers at the moment, because he felt like he could drop dead at any moment. It was probably unsafe for him to even be driving the boat, but hell, they were almost there. He’d make it to his bed.
The boat slowed to a stop at the dock, and while the Belle Reve guards came out with tasers and batons, Flag simply waved his hand at them, “Relax, they know the drill. No need to be rough.”
As the team got out of the boat, led back into the concrete fortress that was, begrudgingly, their home, Flag grabbed his bag and stepped onto the dock. Realizing something, he called out to one of the guards, “Hey, let Waller know I’m here and that I wanna talk….but not today. I wanna meet tomorrow, because today’s been about a thousand miles of traveling.”

It took Flag no time at all to navigate the halls of Belle Reve, making his way through the bones of such a vast beast of a prison. There weren’t too many faces to his surprise, but there were quite a lot of renovations happening. Entire cell blocks and research wings were being converted, though Flag had no clue what they would be after construction, and frankly he couldn’t give a damn at the moment. He just wanted to lie down and go to sleep.
Eventually, he rounded the corner to the hall with his room, occupied solely by a man in a doctor’s coat. As Flag approached the door, the man noticed him, jumping in front of the Colonel, “Oh! I’m sorry sir, but you can’t go in there.”
Flag shouldered his duffle bag, grunting in annoyance, “Why not, it’s my room.”
“Well, it’s because-”
“Nevermind, I don’t give a shit,” said Flag, “You have two seconds to get out of my way before your teeth take a trip down your throat.”
“Urk-” The doctor stepped out of the way, and Flag trudged through the door, happy that the final obstacle to rest had been dealt with. Closing the door behind him, he dropped the duffle bag on the ground, kicked his boots off, and promptly fell into his bed. He groaned, shifting to let himself sink into the mattress.
“Uhhhh.”
“Oh for the love of - ” growled Flag. “Listen buddy, I don’t care if they decided you could room here. It’s my place, now skedaddle.”
“Uh, alright Colonel! I know they took my bomb out, but you’re the boss!”
“Took your…” Flag turned his head to face the voice, finding the one eyed Mitchell Mayo sitting at his desk, a pen in his hand. Flag grunted, “Are you real…I think sleep deprivation’s taking its toll on me.”
“No, I’m real,” said Mayo. “I know Waller said I was dead, but really, I’m not!”
“...I don’t believe you. You’re a figment of my imagination,” said Flag, who lied down again. “Gonna catch my z’s now.”
“Wait, no! I am real,” said Mayo. “ust lemme prove it to you.”
“Good luck with that.”
Flag turned away from Mayo again, prompting Mayo to quickly grab a glass of water from the desk, dipping his fingers in it. Then, he trudged over to the bed and dripped the water onto Flag. Flag immediately cringed at the touch of the liquid, jumping out of bed in anger. Mayo quickly backed up, though he found himself against a wall fairly quickly.
“What the fuck?!” growled Flag.
“I know I know! I’m sorry!” said Mayo. “But look! You’re wet…literally, not the figurative way! I’m real, because who else would put the water on you.”
Flag wiped his face, realizing that there was truth to Mayo’s words, “You’re…you’re not dead. You’re actually-”
Mayo rubbed the back of his head, turning away sheepishly, “Here? Yeah, yeah! Apparently Waller lied to you guys about me surviving, though it’s hard to remember how I-”
Without warning, Flag grabbed Mayo and pulled him into a hug, squeezing him tight. There was a shakiness to his voice, but Mayo could tell that Flag was just…so incredibly overwhelmed.
“You’re… still here,” said Flag.
“Yup! Still here! Loving the hug,” said Mayo. “But I think I’m good now.”
Flag continued to hug Mayo.
“Flag? Flag?” Mayo began to tap on Flag’s shoulder, his voice becoming more of a wheeze as the hug grew tighter. “Flag! Lemme tap out! I can’t breathe, you’re gonna put me in the hospital again! Flaaaaag!”
At that final screech, Flag finally let go, allowing Mayo to catch his breath. The Colonel took a seat on the bed, amazed, “I…this…this feels like a goddamn miracle. I mean, when do any of us catch a break?”
“Catch a break? I mean, I lost an eye,” said Mayo. “But I’m not dead, so I’ll call it a pyrrhic victory.”
“Shit. I’ve got more to say to Waller now,” said Flag. “But that can wait. How have things been?”
“Well, aside from adjusting to the fact that I don’t have depth perception anymore,” said Mayo. “I’m mostly just trying to figure out more life stuff. I was writing down some recipes for different marination sauces.”
“You cook here?” asked Flag.
“They let me into the kitchen sometimes. I’ve had a lot of the flavorless goop when I lived in the cells, so I thought I’d try making something with taste,” said Mayo. “I managed to make some really good Huli-Huli chicken, some chili cheese dogs. I’d love to make more than the others.”
“I’m sure they’d appreciate it!” said Flag. “Though you being alive is already gonna make ‘em happy, Harley especially.”
At Harley’s mention, Mayo’s cheery expression wavered, and his gaze drifted away from Flag’s eyes, “Oh, yeah! Harley.”
Flag raised an eyebrow, “Mitch? What’s wrong?”
“I,” Mayo sighed. “Listen, it’s probably occurred to you that I’m not really a normal prisoner anymore. I don’t have my bomb, and they put me up in your room.”
“Right…”
“And it’s because…it’s because Waller doesn’t think she needs me anymore,” said Mayo. “This cooking stuff? It’s my way of having a skill set for the outside. I say the word, and I’ll be able to head out and grab a job at some top military general’s favorite food joint. Job’s waiting, and I won’t even have to do any parole stuff. It'd be an early release, no strings attached.”
“Shit,” Flag’s eyes widened. “That’s a hell of a deal.”
“Yeah, but I haven’t taken it because…”
“Harley?”
Mayo sighed, “Because of everyone. If I take it, I don’t think I’d be able to face them, Harley especially.”
Flag crossed his arms, “Well…after you said what you said to her, I think you should talk to her either way.”
“After what I said?” Mayo frowned. “What did I say?”
“You…” Flag shook his head. “Wait, you don’t remember?”
“I don’t remember anything from about a week before I was in the hospital,” said Mayo. “The Doctors told me this was lucky though. I got shot in the head, could’ve been really really bad. I could’ve lost all my memories, or my cognitive abilities….or y’know. I could’ve straight up died.”
“So you don’t remember-”
“No,” said Mayo. “Which is why I need you to tell me what I said.”
Flag grimaced, “I don’t think it’s my place to say.”
“What, why?!”
“Because you said some very personal things to her,” said Flag. “If you talk to anyone about what’s going on with you, you should talk to her.”
“Ah jeez.” Mayo shook his head, sitting down at the desk, “I just…god I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to be here anymore, even in my current circumstances. But I also don’t want to leave anyone behind.”
Flag took a seat on the bed, across from Mayo. “Then talk to them, tell them this stuff yourself. They might think differently.”
“I don’t know if I can face them, knowing I can leave at any time and they can’t.” said Mayo.
“I can be there,” said Flag. “And trust me when I say that whatever choice you make…it should be your choice only. Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. They might be giving their opinions, but it’s your ticket, and you can do what you want with it.”
Mayo smiled, “Thanks Flag, I think I needed to hear that.”
“Good, then get ready, because tomorrow you’ll be able to see them,” said Flag. “Not now though. Now is when I hit the sack.”
Without another word, Flag laid down in bed again, closing his eyes. Sleep came almost instantly. Nodding to himself, Mayo turned back to his desk, writing down some extra notes for his recipe. Tomorrow was now potentially one of the biggest days of his life, and he had to be prepared to say what he wanted to say to everyone else. Yawning, he put down his pen and got out of his chair, deciding that it was time for bed. Looking at the occupied mattress, Mayo suddenly realized something, “Shit…now where am I gonna sleep.”

Next Issue: Will he remain?

2023.06.08 02:25 bonc826 Oahu, Maui, and BI Trip Report (5/23-6/5)

This was our first time in Hawaii, and given that we weren’t sure if we’d have the chance to come back in the future, we crammed as much in as possible. We’re a couple in our late 20s. Overall, we loved Oahu, liked the Big Island, and thought Maui was just okay. The main focuses of our trip were trying a lot of different foods, which we did and enjoyed most of, and taking in the beautiful nature Hawaii has to offer, which we did and enjoyed nearly all of. We enjoyed Oahu the most because it offered the most of everything and it was easy to get around. Maui got docked a few points mostly because of how much drive time was required to do most things and it definitely wouldn’t have been worth it if we hadn’t been able to use credit card points for our hotel. HVNP was the big highlight of the Big Island, and we enjoyed a majority of what we did. If we had the chance, we’d probably go back to see more of the BI. In general, we were expecting food to be way more expensive than it was (yay for not meeting expectations) but it was surprisingly difficult for us to find fruits to try besides pineapple, mango, and papaya (boo for not meeting expectations).
This is a reaaaaaally long trip report so I tried to organize it in a way that will allow people to just find their island of interest if they don’t want to read the whole thing. Each island has a bolded header and I put a heart (💜) by things that we absolutely loved and would likely do again and a star (🌟) by things that we really enjoyed doing as first time visitors but probably wouldn’t do again. Please feel free to ask any questions about stuff I didn’t go into detail about!
Oahu Overall Rating: 9/10 Hotel: Hyatt Place Waikiki Beach (mostly stayed here because of CC points and free breakfast. Breakfast would've been way better if there was fruit besides canned pineapple, toilet paper was awful for my bootyhole, and they have the slowest elevators known to man)
Day 0: Travel/arrival
Day 1: Honolulu
Day 2: North Shore
Day 3: Waikiki
Day 4: Waikiki
Day 5: Waikiki

Maui Overall Rating: 7/10 Hotel: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa (we walked down pretty much the entire 2 mile strip of resorts in Kaanapali and from the outside, I'd say that the Hyatt Regency was among the nicer resorts. However, we would never in a million years stay here if it weren't for CC points)
Day 6: Travel to Maui
Day 7: Haleakala
Day 8: Road to Hana
Day 9: Resort Bumming
Day 10: Snorkeling

Big Island Overall Rating: 8/10 Hotel: Orchid Tree B&B (I wanted to gatekeep this but it was too cute of a B&B to not share. The suite we got was clean and comfortable and the simple breakfast in the morning was great. The host cut fresh fruit from their yard for us) 💜
Day 11: Travel/HVNP
Day 12: HVNP/Travel

2023.06.08 02:24 neon57O 6.6l gasser review, so far

Dare I say I have the highest milage 2023 6.6l gasser so far? Just broke 19k miles (bought the truck back in October for business use)
Mechanically, absolutely zero issues throughout the truck. I've done about 6 pil changes, 2 trans fluid changes and 1 rear diff fluid change. Don't really care if you think it's too often, my truck my rules. Besides for what this thing cost, I'm keeping it for the next 200 years.
Dealership refuses to warranty the frame coating they keep wearing off from there lifts. Flat out told me unless frame is rotted through, it's not there problem
The husky brand wheel well liners for the rear have awful fitment and I'm not impressed at all.
New England oil undercoating WILL NOT void any warranty and I plan on having it sprayed within the next month or so and again in the fall before winter hits
Last 1000 miles over averaged about 14 mpg.
Seats are still rock hard, can we all.agree we need to bring back those plush lazy boy seats from the 90s allready?
Really wish I paid a little extra for the steering wheel controls for the raido.
Truck is absolutely unfazed by 96 boxes of pergo flooring in the bed. Only issue was my wheel well liners hit the springs and I had to trim it. Pain in the ass but that's how she goes.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be in theaters beginning June 2. If you're wondering how and where you can watch it yourself, take a look at the information below.
Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most. Anyone can wear the mask – it’s how you wear it that makes you a hero.
The much-anticipated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is only a few weeks away, and fans can’t wait to see the new adventures of Miles Morales. Once the Sony Pictures-produced movie ends its theatrical run, it will come to the most popular streamers, including Netflix and Disney Plus. But when is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix and Disney Plus? Here’s what you need to know.
'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' features the return of Shameik Moore as Miles Morales and Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy. Just before the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, producers of the feature have announced a couple of other projects. Producer Amy Pascal has announced a forthcoming third installment titled Beyond the Spider-Verse expected to be released next year. That is not the only project announced.
Paint-on-glass, Realistic Cartoon-style to Japanese Manga, makers explore not a couple but way too many animation styles! Shameik Moore’s Miles, in a way, gets a Star-Lord-like treatment in which he beautifully balances his character arc without overstepping the broader scheme of things. Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen finally gets a chance to narrate her side of things, and it mixes well with the ‘star-crossed’ relationship she’s currently sharing with Miles.
If you’re like just about everyone else on the planet who saw Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and loved it, you’ve probably been waiting for the sequel. You won’t be waiting long, as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is finally coming out in 2023, a full five years later. It’s been a long wait but by all indications the film is going to be a blast for fans of comic book movies, Miles Morales’ version of Spider-Man, and this new animated franchise featuring the iconic webslinger.
Modern cinema has seen the gap between theatrical and streaming releases shorten dramatically, begging the question of when Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will release online. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, streaming releases have been much closer to the theatrical release of films. While the mid-COVID marketing technique of releasing movies in theaters and on streaming services at the same time for an extra price is a thing of the past, the gap between the respective releases is still considerably shorter than in decades past.
While we currently don’t know the exact online release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, we do know the movie will be released in cinemas worldwide, including the US and UK, on June 2nd, 2023. We know where to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse online, but do we also know when? We can guess once again, assuming it charts the same theater-to-streaming path as Into the Spider-Verse did in 2018 with two months between the theatrical release and its digital renting/buying services. You may be able to buy or rent the movie digitally as early as late July of this year, with a physical release roughly a month or so after that, if not sooner. This also means that you will probably be able to stream Spider-Man: Across on Netflix in early December 2023, as it took about six months from Into the Spider-Verse’s release before the movie landed on the streamer.

When Is the Release Date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was one of the many films to get hit by a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, moving from its original date of April 8, 2022, to October 7, 2022. That's the date seen in the above trailer, but the film has since seen another significant delay since then. Now the film is officially set for release on June 2, 2023. Hopefully, we won't see another delay, but if it means getting a sequel that lives up to the sky-high heights of the original, we'll gladly wait.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in Theaters?

Not only was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the subject of rave reviews, but it also pulled in some gargantuan levels of cash at the international box office, with a final tally that quadrupled the film's ninety-million dollar budget. With incredible success like that, it's only natural that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse would also be taking advantage of a theatrical release. That is the case, as the upcoming film will be exclusively available in theaters when it premieres on June 2nd, 2023.

When is 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse' streaming?

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse The home distribution rights for Across the Spider-Verse are in a rather interesting place. In April 2021, it was reported that Sony Studios had signed a multiyear deal with both Netflix and Disney for shared streaming rights to Sony films coming out between 2022 and 2026. This deal includes Across the Spider-Verse as well as the third film in the series, Beyond the Spider-Verse, due out in March 2024.

As for releases like Across the Spider-Verse, the film will be available on Netflix with "first-pay-window-rights" for the first 18 months of its home media release. While it will not be streaming concurrently with its theatrical release, it will be available on Netflix following its theatrical run.

Some of the films are not currently available on the service because Sony has pre-existing partnerships with Starz, as that's where most of the absent films are available to stream. That is except for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which is instead only streaming on Fubo TV and FX Now.

For anyone else looking to watch the film as soon as possible, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in theaters on June 2.

How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

At the moment, you can watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse at your local theater. But like most movies these days, it should hit a streaming website in the near future.

Like its predecessor, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is a flick produced by multimedia conglomerate Disney. What's more, the production studio owns a number of other famous franchises, like the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. Titles made under these umbrellas have both hit Disney+ sometime after arriving at the box office. Fans may also know the original Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently available to stream on the site as well. So, if the 2023 version follows the same pattern, folks will likely get to see Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Disney+ later this year too.

As for an exact release date for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, that's more complicated. Most movies produced by Disney often go to its streamer site within three months after debuting in theaters, like the most recent Marvel film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If this is the case for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it will probably drop in late August 2023 or sometime near Labor Day in early September.

When the time comes for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to splash onto Disney+ though, make sure you're all prepared to watch it. If you don't have access yet, you can opt into a 30-day free trial before choosing a plan that start at $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. After your account is all set, click on the title page on Disney+'s official website or the Disney+ app.

As you wait for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to hit the streamer, why don't you watch the animated version and its sequel Spider-Man: into the Spider-Verse? Or if you want to immerse yourself in another live-action version, click on the 2019 ABC TV special Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Live!. Enjoy!

Where To Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online:

As of now, the only way to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is to head out to a movie theater when it premieres on June 2, 2023. You can find a local showing on Fandango.

Otherwise, you’ll just have to wait for it to become available to rent or purchase on digital platforms like Amazon, Vudu, YouTube or Apple, or become available to stream on Disney+.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Netflix?

Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is coming to Netflix approximately in December 2023. In 2021, Sony and Netflix signed a five-year deal that gave the latter exclusive first-pay-window U.S. streaming rights for Sony Pictures titles after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. Fans can expect to watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix six months after the film’s theatrical release, thus in December 2023. The date seems reasonable considering that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse dropped on Netflix on June 26, 2019, six months after its U.S. release on December 14, 2018. The pay-one window usually begins about nine months after a film’s theatrical release, but it might start earlier in particular cases. This post will be updated once there is a 100% officially confirmed Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Netflix release date.

When Will Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Be Available On Netflix?

Where will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stream specifically? Due to an ongoing deal between Netflix and Sony (remember that these movies are not produced by Disney), Across the Spider-Verse will see Netflix as the streaming home for the film when it finishes its theatrical run. It will no doubt make its way to Disney+ eventually, as Disney and Sony do have an agreement for Disney to include Sony’s Spider-Man content in their offerings, but that will at least be some time after Across the Spider-Verse has come out on Netflix.

In terms of which of the streaming giants Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on, Netflix will house the film upon its streaming debut. While again, Sony does not have its own dedicated streaming service, a deal was struck in 2021 between the studio and Netflix. The deal, stating that Netflix would stream Sony's films after theatrical release, was penned for 5 years meaning Across the Spider-Verse is part of the arrangement.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse coming to Disney Plus?

Yes, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is also coming to Disney Plus approximately in 2025.

Once the pay-one window runs its time and Netflix’s exclusive rights expire, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on Disney Plus. The pay-one window might last as long as 18 months, which means it will be a while before Disney Plus subscribers can watch the much-anticipated sequel. Unlike in other countries, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t yet available on the Disney-owned streamer in the U.S.

While Sony's Spider-Man content is also streaming on Disney+, due to the collaborations between Sony and Marvel Studios in recent years, Across the Spider-Verse will be a Netflix release. While the deal struck between Marvel Studios and Sony may extend to this film, Disney+ is only allowed to begin streaming Sony's Spider-Man releases upon their release on Netflix. As a result, Netflix will be the first streaming service that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be available on after its theatrical release.

Regarding when the film will be available on Netflix, the answer is less definitive. The first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, began streaming six months after its theatrical release. Based on this, it is safe to assume Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will see a similar gap between its cinematic and streaming releases. Given the film's theatrical release of June 2, 2023, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will likely begin streaming on Netflix in December 2023.

Will Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Be On HBO Max?

No, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will not be on HBO Max since it’s not a Universal Pictures movie. Last year, the company released its films in theaters and on the streamer on the same day. However, they now allow a 45-day window between the theatrical release and the streaming release.

Is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Available On Hulu?

Viewers are saying that they want to view the new animation movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on Hulu. Unfortunately, this is not possible since Hulu currently does not offer any of the free episodes of this series streaming at this time. It will be exclusive to the MTV channel, which you get by subscribing to cable or satellite TV services. You will not be able to watch it on Hulu or any other free streaming service.

How to Watch Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online For Free?

2023.06.07 19:29 User5790 What should I ask before driving to see this bus?

Found a short bus (cutaway van) that is a size I like, but it’s a 1991. It’s low miles, but worried about the age. I’d like something that’s reliable. Sounds like the current owners started to put some work into it and had a change of plans and have to sell. Including info from the ad below. Asking $8500. Are there any red flags here or specific questions I should ask? It’s a days drive, so trying to decide if it’s worth the next step of going there and hiring a mechanic to check it over.
From their ad: “It’s a high roof (8ft) and insulated special Idaho edition with extra side door (wheel chair access, no lift)
We did: remove seats, floor and sub floor, welded up problem areas and replaced sub floor, not installed hardwood flooring included in sales price, installed bed frame and painted inside with primer. And complete beautiful outside 2 tone paint job. New front rotors, calipers, brakes and wheel bearings. Runs like a beast, built in 1991, Chevy 350, odometer: ~120,000 miles, also comes with new Hedman headers (not installed)”

2023.06.07 17:05 daniemiller Torn between an xc60 and xc90. Help me choose.

I’ve been car shopping and I’ve driven many brands and Volvo is the winner. I am not interested in new, as I don’t want a hybrid engine. I already have a Prius for everyday driving. I’ve also researched that the battery replacement is not covered outside of factory warranty and could cost thousands to replace in the future, unlike Toyota that has used battery options.
Anyhow I’m looking at 2020 Xc60 and a 2020 xc90. Seating is not a concern, I don’t require more space, honestly I just prefer the look of the xc90, and since they are both T6, gas mileage is similar.
Both have very similar original MSRP. Both are in pristine condition.
The xc60 is an Inscription with advanced package and luxury package. With 20” rims. It has only 8000 miles with 13 months left on factory warranty. I like all the features, but not a fan of white with black interior. The dealer is asking 41k, it’s been on lot for over a month.
The xc90 is a momentum with Advanced package. I will be missing out on the luxury Nappa leather with ventilated seats and retractable mirrors, but it appears that otherwise it’s comparable to the xc60 bells and whistles. This one has 27000 miles and 5 months of warranty left. It had the blond interior that I love and the gray exterior I like. The dealer is asking 44k, but it’s priced high with lots of competition and been on the lot for 5 months!
I plan on purchasing an extended warranty from my credit union (steingold not available here). Pros to xc60, I can wait and purchase even later since it has more factory warranty left.
I feel I can end up with a comfortable purchase price on either. Are the few extra bells and whistles worth not preferring the interioexterior look? Do I take advantage of fewer miles and longer warranty?
Ugh, I’m stuck. Thanks!

2023.06.07 16:33 RMD010 Curious Case of SRK & his Business Ventures Journey (Part-2)

Curious Case of SRK & his Business Ventures Journey (Part-2)
In my first post, I thought I covered basically everything that’s associated with SRK & his business Interests, however I seemed to have overlooked upon few key details about his businesses and other avenues of his earnings as well in a big way.
Here’s the breakdown of his other Business Investments/Earnings:
SRK Website:
I failed to find multiple supporting materials on this but based on a interview clip which I saw many years back and a supporting gossip post, I’m writing a gist of it. SRK actually launched his own website named www.SRKworld.com, a complete entertainment portal back in November 2000.
The company that owned and operated the portal was Aryan Informatics which was named after SRK’s son. Apart from SRK, Juhi was the other investor in Aryan Informatics.
SRK wanted to give updates on the website to his fans about his movies/promotions/events/fan interactions. Fans can also buy some of the merchandise, etc.
But due to occurrence of dotcom bubble in 2000 after few months of website launch and portal’s association with Bharat Shah, the website as well as the company viz. Aryan Informatics was sold to B4U, a leading Bollywood based entertainment TV Network.
Earning from the Movies:
In 2014, SRK charged about 30-40 Cr for starring in a film. But in recent years, SRK has started to partake in profits instead of taking any actor fees upfront. For his recent release Pathaan, Shah Rukh Khan didn’t charge any fees for the movie and yet took home a lion's share from the earnings. Actor reportedly had a deal of 60% profit sharing as his remuneration from the movie. Since Pathaan was made on a budget of 270 Cr and makers earned a total profit of Rs 333 Crore, SRK was paid 200 Cr as his share.

SRK's recent release Pathaan is currently India's biggest blockbuster and Bollywood's second highest grosser of all-time.
Streaming Deals:
Not many people know about this but back in 2016, Netflix announced the mega deal with SRK a day after Amazon Prime Video’s launch in India. Amazon has stitched multiple deals with Indian studios including Dharma Productions, Vishesh Films, and T-Series on similar lines.
Netflix deal with SRK granted them the global streaming rights to the films in Red Chillies’ library, as well as any new movies from the production house that are slated for theatrical release within the next three years. Khan will also develop original content for the platform.
Transactional details about streaming rights were not shared with media outlets.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
We did go over all were the co-owners in this team. But I missed on sharing the shareholding pattern of the KKR co-owners:
SRK holds 55% of the team ownership & Jay Mehta/Juhi hold remaining 45% stake.
The KKR Shareholding pattern changed quite a bit over the years.
Knight Riders Sports Pvt Ltd, which runs KKR, had following shareholding pattern:
2008- Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt Ltd(RCEPL) had 9900 & Gauri 100 shares
2009- New shares were issued at Rs 10 per share price to RCEPL- 110,00,000 equity shares
Sea Islands Investment Ltd - 50,00,000 equity shares
Juhi Chawla Mehta - 40,00,000 equity shares

KKR Co-owners clicked at regional Airport
2010- JCM sold to SIIL(Mauritius based company owned by Jay Mehta) about 40L shares at Rs 10 per share price.
2011 - ED found new shares allotment & sale unfair. Thus, transaction was subject to third-party auditing.
Auditors told KRSPL that price should have been 70-86 per share(for issue of 50L shares of KRSPL to SIIL) & sale of 40L shares from JCM to SIIL should've been 83-99 per share. As per CCI guidelines, 86 per share value was evaluated.
KKR’s Operations Snapshot:
Knight Riders Sports's operating revenues range is INR 100 Cr - 500 Cr for the financial year ending on 31 March, 2022. It's EBITDA has increased by 63.97 % over the previous year. At the same time, it's book net worth has increased by 20.70 %.
KKR’s Revenue Model:
KKR has been the first IPL team to turn profitable, they broke even in March 2012. They have emphasized on scaling up the brand merchandising and also build an official fan base on the Manchester United Model.
Currently KKR, third most successful IPL team, are the second-richest IPL team in the league with a net worth value of INR 740 crore. They are only behind Mumbai Indians (MI), who have a net value of INR 803 crore.
  1. Media Rights: BCCI shares 40-50% of their broadcasting income (TV & OTT streaming) to IPL franchises based on league finish. Trophy winner will get the biggest share of the pie.
  2. Sponsorships: Sponsors have to cough up anywhere between ₹10-12 crore for their logo to be carried on the back of the KKR jersey and between ₹8-22 crore for the front. KKR earns about 20-30% of their revenue from their sponsors: MyFab11, Lux Cozi, Joy Personal Care, Money9, Jio, Royal Green, and Acko. Tire Company, Balkrishna Industries are the main sponsors of the team.
  3. Stadium tickets and gate passes: Eden Garden has the capacity to host 80,000 people, is the third-largest cricket stadium in terms of seating capacity. Franchise also sells gate passes and adds more money to their wallet.
  4. Merchandise Sale: KKR launched the ‘Shop KKR’ website to establish a strong connection with its fans. They sell trending products such as jerseys, shorts, caps, T-shirts, and keychains. In 2023, SRK launched the ‘Knight Club app’ to strengthen his team’s special bond with fans.
  5. Prize Money: If KKR win the IPL trophy they receive about 20 Cr., for second place: 13 Cr, third place: 7Cr & 4th pace: 6.5 Cr. Half of the prize money is distributed among the players only.

SRK with IPL Trophy in 2012
UK T20 Team[The Hundred]:
Even though there is no update on which particular team Knight Rider’s group are after. I’m certain they are most likely eyeing London Spirit. KKR CEO Venky Mysore implied that he might want to change the name of his to-be Hundred team. SRK also has a winter holiday home in London from many years. He visits UK with his family & friends around December end, every year. SRK's UK T20 team has to be London Spirit.
In fact, Lords cricket stadium [home ground of London Spirit] is about 1.5 miles from his London Mansion based in Park Lane, next to Hyde Park. Current London Spirit Ownership has 6 co-owners, who are mostly England Cricket Board Offcials.
Byju’s:
Though SRK has been signed up as brand ambassador, there are speculations that he also holds an undisclosed stake in Byju’s. Just like his investment in KidZania India, we don't know how much amount is invested. He’s definitely holding a minority stake.
KidZania India:
A Mexican edutainment brand's first project in Mumbai cost around Rs 100 crore and was launched in June 2013 at R City Mall in Mumbai’s Ghatkopar area. The centre is spread over more than 70,000 square feet.
Another KidZania park is located at the Entertainment City in Noida with a standalone structure across three levels and 97,000sq.ft. Apart from Mumbai & Delhi-NCR, third park in Bengaluru will be opened soon.
SRK’s actual investment in KidZania India is unknown but he holds about 26% stake.

SRK at KidZania India's first project launch in Mumbai
Endorsement Deals (Advertisements):
SRK started his endorsement journey back in 1988, when he signed up for Liberty Shoes since then he never looked back. After his TV stint won him recognition, SRK landed in Mumbai. One of his first assignments was an ad for Tata Tea. Interestingly, Khan returned to the same brand in 2013 with the Chhoti si shuruaat campaign for Tata Tea.
SRK is known to stick to quality brands for the longest time: his association with Hyundai has been about 25 years. He’s is often referred to as one of first employees of Hyundai India.
SRK’s endorsement associations with brands include Liberty, Hyundai, Byju's, Big Basket, Pepsi, Frooti, Whirlpool, Nokia, Dish TV, LUX, Denver, Airtel, Royal Stag, Sunfeast, Pan Vilas, Kent, Mitsbushi Air Conditioners, Goibibo, LML, Cinthol, Videocon, PharmEasy, Nerolac, DHFL, D'decor, Pepsodent, Jet Airways, Gitanjali Jewels, Colgate Palmolive, Signature, Sprite, Tata Tea, ICICI Bank, Streax, Omega, Hewlett-Packard, Hero Punch Power, Reliance Jio, Tag Huer, Belmonte, Mayur Suitings, Top Ramen, Bagpiper, Godrej, Emami and many more.

SRK's recent brand endorsement deals
SRK's endorsement deal with brands such as Pan Vilas(they paid 20Cr back in 2014) was the biggest celeb endorsement deal of the time.
In the past, SRK might have been available for big national/regional brands but from past few years he's been eyeing foreign endorsement deals such as Dubai Tourism, Netflix, LG, Cadbury, FoodPanda, Burjeel Holdings, Disney+ Hotstar, Coca Cola(Thumbs Up), etc.
SRK's been brand ambassador for over 50 brands throughout his ad campaigns career. He said because of his earnings from ads and weddings, he was able to upscale his movie's production and execute the script in the manner it deserved. He charges around 4-10 Cr per day for Ads.
Why Brands prefer SRK?
According to a TAM report, he adds over 3% share of volume on TV with average visibility of 4 hours per day across all TV Channels. Based on another report, he rakes up to 6% share of television advertisement market.
SRK's been a pioneer and gold standard of brand endorsements. Thats why even esteemed global brands like Tag Huer have signed him up as brand ambassador for over a decade now. Recently, his son's luxury streetwear brand D'Yavol X was sold-out within hours even though the prices were high.

Forbes India 2013 Cover emphasizing on Brand SRK
Director of Hasee Toh Phasee and ad filmmaker Vinil Mathew thinks SRK’s presence ensures maximum exposure. He says, “Shah Rukh Khan is the number one actor in the country. Any brand that wants to project itself as the number one product for its target group would want to associate with SRK. With him you also send across the message that you are the best just like him. It’s the best way to reach across the globe as well as to smaller towns. With him on board a brand wins the battle of perception.”

A Still from SRK's movie Om Shanti Om(2007), an example of guerilla marketing, where both SRK & Shreyas argue in front of a SRK's huge Tag Heuer Billboard.

BONUS:
Paid Appearances:
According to Times of India, the actor also accepts fees to attend parties and events. In 2013, his rate was reportedly US$15,000, while according to Siasat, he now charges more than US$300,000 simply to appear for a limited time without giving a performance.
Performing Dance/Skits at the Weddings:
SRK earns a ton of money from heartthrob performances at weddings too. Various sources report that an SRK performance in the weddings range from Rs 4 to 8 crore. SRK is pretty picky due to his packed schedule and prefers to only accept opportunities from people he knows i.e. famous billionaire businessmen and celebrities.

SRK reportedly received 250 event invitations in 2012, but only attended 10, while in 2013, he gave a 30-minute performance at a wedding at Dubai’s Madinat Jumeirah hotel for US$1 million.
Future Plans:
SRK’s future business interests could be opening of restaurants and possibly foray into other sports like hockey, football, etc. Also, there is possibility of Knight Riders owning franchises in WIPL(for Kolkata) & Saudia Arabia once the T20 league is found and there’s sponsorship/broadcasting deal is in place. Also, there are chances of opening a fashion brand including clothing & cosmetics division with Suhana as face and manager.

2023.06.07 14:50 rob_burnley Shopify Checklist: before launch, or conversion troubles (it's a bit long)

Check your store for these points if you're struggling with sales, I've been reviewing shopify sites for 3 yrs and picked up these tips. might be a few useful bits for your site

general web layout
-------------
header - ideally should have a good number of links (on desktop view). the height of the header should be as short as possible, otherwise it can cover the site content. Also large headers have lots of empty space (empty space is a big no-no, looks unprofessional). Big issue - For the shop link there should always be a 'shop all' option. Then customers can just browse without having to click back and forth into each individual collecton, which can lead to click burnout and bounce.
footer - Ideally should have your contact address, address, maybe a telephone number, contact times (builds trust and looks professional). Also it should have your socials links, about us, contact, shipping, returns, page links...as a minimum.
buttons - looks better if it's a solid colour not a frame. it's possible to CSS code in a shadow or solid shadow, which looks better (adidas has quite good buttons) makes a 'big' subtle difference. You can also CSS code in shadows on the text of buttons, again generally looks better
fonts - never use old fashioned fonts like times new roman, really affects the look. Can get some pretty edgy title fonts for things like urban streetwear which look good. Also the big title fonts and small paragraphs 'look' is quite good...nike is a good example.
colour scheme - sites that have a colour scheme (ie one colour for their buttons, announcement bar, header background, footer background) tend to be more memorable than sites without a colour scheme. enhances the brand.
email subscription popups - if you have a subscription popup try and delay its pop at least 5 seconds into landing. otherwise you're asking people to give out their email address before having seen anything of the site or products. Also a good message is key, try and incentivise them to give out their email (eg signup for a chance to win a prize, or discount code),
products - are there enough? ideally you want the 'huntegatherer' shopping experience where they have to search, compare and find something. Not an empty store with only 4 products, which makes for a bad experience (not applicable for 1 product stores).
On the other hand you can have too may products or categories. And you get the burnt out shopper effect - think of a time when you're on amazon, does anyone really want to search for a product after more than say 6 pages.
front page
-------------
At the mo, the trend for web design and the front page is to have 'a ton' of content. content-rich. If you look at the big players and most successful sites their front page is jam-packed with content. This doesnt include a few apparel sites like supreme, or the more expensive apparel brands, I personally think they would get more sales if they did.
Your front image is part of the branding. Should be high quality photography, full colour (not greyed over), with a bit of text/button over the top or better graphics, discount codes. Ideally a slideshow. Ideally with people in the shot. With the text make sure it's clear what is for sale, and make it concise :)
The front page usually includes a good logo, a front image (or better a slideshow, or a movie), a small amount of blurb (2 or 3 sentences of good copy), add to carts (more than 6, not usually more than 30) exclusive to us add to carts, featured product, top pick this month add to cart. It can also have 'as seen in' icons (eg vogue, cosmopolitan, GQ). A movie, special offers/ discount codes, an IG gallery, reviews..with name/location/stars (this gives your brand momentum knowing that people are buying from you and trust your business).
If your prices are higher than people might expect it could be good to have a small section on the front page explaining 'rarity''craft''effort' etc
If you need extra credibility. Like say selling a protein powder or maybe a lifestyle therapist....you can have a tick comparison table, graph, pie/ chart, diagram, comparison table.
A lot of new sites have a problem with 'text' on the front page. Way too much text. They have large paragraphs (which look bad on desktop, worse on mobile). Nothing worse than a wall of text. People want to see nice photos, products + prices. If you have anything with more than 4 sentences people will just scroll past it imo.
Add to carts
------------
the photos need to be great. can you see the designs properly, if it's too wide a crop and the pic is too small on your catalogue page - people cant see the product properly ...they wont click into each and every add to cart to see it. this will affect sales. Have you got the latest theme which has all the gizmos on your add to carts...'on sale', 'tiktok fav', 'top seller', star reviews, etc

General points
---------------
Amazon. amazon is always gonna be a threat, but remember jeff bezos is one of the richest men in the world. If that is the case then there must surely be room to undercut and outperform his company. Also amazon sells allsorts, they dont specialize in anything ...which is an opportunity. Would you buy say protein powder from amazon or from Big Jack's protein powder store, where they sell 30 types of powder and come across as specialists. Big Jack's would have a stronger brand loyalty + trust than amazon. It does depend on what niche you go for. Tech gadgets, gym equipment, kitchen stuff, books, will generally be amazon's domain at the mo.
With sites that have higher pricepoints, and often the more successful sites generally....they tend to photo the people more than the products. Think group shots, wideangles, close ups, singles, couples, different angles, interesting locations. Good examples are Nike, Gucci, Adidas. You dont often see mid-shots of people smiling into the camera, because these are too basic. That's the mistake most new streetwear brands make. And a lot of new jewellery sites dont even have models on their site, which has a bad effect on the branding and sales imo.
Klarna. And other buy now pay later payment options. These are getting more and more popular. If you sell anything above $40 it's a good buying motivator to have klarna. And mention it on the front page (like they do with pandora jewellery)
Wizards. When your selling a lot of products which connect together (eg a solar power system with battery, wires, solar panel) a 'step by step wizard' with link on the front page is a good idea. Otherwise it can be daunting not knowing what to buy ( https://diytvwallmount.com.au/ is a good example of a wizard)
First 2 seconds. the first 2 seconds are the most important part of the customer experience. If they land on the front page ...they look at the logo then the front image then the message. If there's any confusion (like it's not clear what's for sale) or lack of clarity it affects the whole journey. You could have the most amazing site after that, but if the logo + front image arent up to scratch (the brand), it takes a heck of a lot to get back on track and lead to a sale. in ecommerce the branding is the business.
Retargeting ads -the reason you see the same TV ad's over and over is because re-targeting works, most people buy between 3-10 landings on a site. so you need to retarget your ads to these same people.
Saturated sectors - in no order these are the most saturated sectors. Doesn't mean don't sell these products, but you will have more competition and everything about your store has to be upto date and in the top 5% imo.
  1. activewear
  2. jewellery
  3. pet stores
  4. home decor
  5. coffee
  6. camping gear
  7. tech products
  8. wall art
  9. make-up + beauty
  10. fitness gadgets

2023.06.07 09:18 AutoModerator Here’s Where To WATCH Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Online Free at Reddit

Sony Pictures! Here are options for downloading or watching Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse streaming the full movie online for free on 123movies & Reddit, including where to watch marvel's latest live-action adaptation movies at home. Is Spider-Verse 2 available to stream? Is watching Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse on Peacock, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix or Amazon Prime? Yes, we have found an authentic streaming option/service.
Watch Now: Spider Man: Across the Spider Verse Movie Online

Watch Now: Spider-Verse (2023) Movie Online Free

2023.06.07 08:14 Jeffreyjellyfish33 How do you all deal with rude customers?

Rude customers anger me. I have gotten multiple one-star ratings unfairly and was wondering how I should go about handling them. Here is a little story for you all. This experience as a shopper really grinded my gears today. It starts with me waiting for batches and chilling at the local bar. I only take orders with 5 items or fewer so I can come back and get my seat at the bar. I was on my 5th batch and decided to take a slightly bigger order of 35 items. It was also extremely far, which was about 15 miles. I had to go to this Ralphs all the way by the beach which was a very stressful experience. I was a little busy taking a few shots before leaving and I had tried to Along the drive my customer scolded me about being too slow and I must start my batch in 5 minutes or I am going to automatically get a four-star rating. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
I absolutely hate Ralphs. everything is so expensive and the aisles are not even arranged in alphabetical order. The customer specifically wanted organic bananas. They were completely out of organic bananas. What kind of store runs out of bananas? I attempted to replace it with regular bananas which they did have. I got an angry message stating that she needs it to be organic. I replied back with "Who cares a banana is a banana". I didn't like the customer's condescending and rude tone in the message. Here is the thing with organic or regular they all taste the same so really it doesn't matter. Do people really get that butthurt that their precious organic food is out of stock? anyways I lied and said I found it and replaced the regular banana bag with an organic banana bag. When I was ready to check out, I got a message saying that the customer saying that they did not approve of my milk substitution. They wanted whole milk but I replaced it with 2%. the first time I replaced it with whole milk because they wanted a specific brand and they didn't have it. I just gave him 2%, because who drinks whole milk nowadays anyways it's 2023. This milk also had to be organic believe it or not. I had to get out of line and fix it. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes, I finally check out and sit in more traffic. This person lived in a stupid neighborhood because the only way to get there efficiently is to take a toll road.
I wish Instacart could pay extra for toll road coverage which I will complain about. I finally get to the customer's house. I rang the doorbell and a short, fat, frumpy white woman came and snatched my bags. No wonder she wanted whole milk I say to myself. She was still unhappy with my service and she kind of scolded me about my replacements and my attitude toward it. As I left, I politely asked if she could put 5 on gas. She angrily told me to have a nice day slamming the door right in my face. The next morning, I woke up with a one-star review with a long message flamming me. I decided to report it to Instacart explaining the situation. Is there anything else that can be done to take my one-star review off my profile?

7 Members, were hitting them big numbers now XD
Thanks all for joining, I really appreciate this little team we've got going here. Some ideas that I've gotten while doing a brainstorm: - auction house (instead of quickselling items when you dont need them anymore, you can put them on a marketplace for cheaper or trade them with friends for ingame currency, recipes, other items)
- trading (you dont just trade ingredients, but recipes, items, cosmetics, currency. You can trade any item you want that you own, besides the staff)
- isometric outside edit (look at the image below, I want editing the outside of the restaurant to not be that flat stuff from rc, but isometric so you can place trees, car parking, chairs seats, edit drive through, I always wished we could edit our outside restaurant like isometric instead of flat)
Just an example, but i think this shouts what im saying for editing outside
- viewing friends on isometric world (when you add friends, you can see your friends restaurant like above but all on an isometric plain. Including my personal restaurant aswell and other random restaurants. Basically like street view in rc but in isometric platform)
- Boxing arena (speaking about my restaurant, my game will have a boxing arena this is non negotiable. Meaning like, ill have a boxing ring as an 'entertainment' object, and have a bunch of seats surrounding the ring and kitchen on the side. How funny would that look, when new users log in, view other restaurants, go to the creator of the game's restaurant, and just see a boxing ring, seats, pretty much a boxing arena, and an actual fight night going on. I think that would be hilarious, them expecting a restaurant and seeing a stadium that happens to serve food lol)
how funny would this look in a restaurant game XD
- schedules (speaking about fight night, the game will be on a schedule basis monday to sunday, and if you have any entertainment objects, youll be able to schedule events on specific days so that more npcs will enter the restaurant on those event days. Good example was fight night, but other entertainment objects could be like a stage for live music, grandpiano performace, rodeo night where people ride a mechanical bull, simpler salsa night, or discount food for specific days, movie night, theater, celebrity appearance, idk im just throwing ideas into the sky but i really like this schedules events idea) - juke box (my items for jukebox are radio, wall speakers, large speakers, grand piano, smaller piano, electric piano, other stuff that makes music, jukebox. Each item is able to play specific music, like there will be 5 tracks that can always be played at any time, but then each item can play more specific stuff like jukebox has 3 extra tracks, piano has extra tracks, and its rarity based so grand piano or something grander has access to all the possible soundtracks to play. I freaking love whoville by tyler the creator i think that is a banger that i need to somehow recreate) - paying for ingame currency (what do you all honestly think about this. It speeds up progression of game by buying more currency to quickly establish your restaurant, but i hate micro transactions and am honestly thinking of not adding any. If you all think it'd be okay to pay for in game currency, even though you can slowly earn it up over time as your restaurant makes sales, then I'll consider it maybe. This is purely for time saving so lets say a new item releases on christmas the christmas stove, and its 250k units worth, would it be okay to buy in game currency to get it straight away rather than you wait and earn 250k worth of in game units through restaurant sales? or should i just not allow ingame currency purchase at all and let people work to get these items? I'm completely on the fence with this topic and am leaving it up to you guys to decide.)
Floors and balcony (i want my game to add stairs to platforms, a second floor, or even balconies)
What i want you guys to want from this game (I plan on adding every single theme, every single time, just a seamingly infinite amount of items in this game, that you could decorate with. Mechanical bull, salsa night, these are all themes. I want like, realistically, 800 themes to choose from, with different items for each theme, and an ability to mix and match themes that look similar to enhance the look of your restaurant. You would literally never be able to run out of customisation options for your restaurant, because theres just too many to consider. And maybe when youve designed the best possible looking restaurant with one of your themes, you can spice it up, set up a second layout save like the original rc, and make another restaurant with a completely different theme. A theme that ive been exploring was a medieval tavern restaurant from like the 1400s Where everything is wooden, candles as lights, beers and clothing from the 1400s. Other themes like cowboys, aliens, japanese, fancy black tie, every theme you could possibly want. Give me more themes, please suggest me an infinite amount of themes and im gonna work me and my graphic designer to death to make this the best customisable game possible. What i personally like is the boxing arena theme, where my restaurant looks like a boxing arena and thats it lol. Other themes like gothic, mexican cuisine, 80s, anything you can imagine)
this is all speculatory, just fun ideas to throw out there. Tell me what you think, and if you have any of your own ideas as well please share them, we're really in the earliest stages of development so maybe an idea of yours could actually be core gameplay in the end. Also give me some themes, and tell me your honest opinions of the above points i just said. Also keep a look out, I'm gonna be posting concept designs for the logo of restaurant odyssey.

2023.06.07 05:44 Cailey696 Bad Roomate stories

This is a long story. These events happened over the span of a year and there's also a lot of build up before we get into the drama. Bear with me, but context is needed for some of these incidents.
When I was 22 my sister's house got flooded from a hurricane. She, her husband, and our family all pitched in to fix it up. It was a beautiful, but expensive, remodel. Just before the remodel was complete my sister and her husband decided that they were going to move to florida because her husband received a job opportunity. I was crushed, especially since my nephew had just turned 1 and they were pregnant with their second. Since the remodel cost so much money they were hoping to make a little extra money every month by renting it out. They first asked if I would be interested in renting it. I jumped at the opportunity and was really thankful that they trusted me. I found the first 2 roomates pretty swiftly, they were students in the same college as me and we were pretty good friends already. We'll call them Nick and Sarah. Since it was a 4 bedroom 2 bath house we still needed one more roommate but most of our mutual friends weren't in a position to move out. Enter Britney. Britney was a graduate from the same major just a year or so prior. We knew her enough to think she was a good candidate as a roommate. She seemed nice and responsible and given that she was a couple years older we thought she would be flowing with maturity. There was no indication that she would end up being a complete piece of shit.
It was understood from the beginning that I would take the master bedroom since I was essentially "head of the house". I would be the one in contact with the landlords and making sure we were keeping up with the house. Nobody had an issue with this. We all contributed to the house furnishings. I brought a love seat and kitchen stuff from home, sarah brought a reclining couch, Nick brought a dining table and chairs, and Britney brought the fucking audacity. Everything else we needed we bought together and split the costs.
Because I had the primary bedroom I also had a private bathroom. I made it very clear that they could use the bathroom at any point, even if i wasn't home. My only ask was that if I was home or in my room that they would first ask/knock on the door. but if I wasn't home, it was fair game. I trusted my roommates completely and it would've been unfair if I made 3 people share one bathroom.
We moved in in February. The first month or so went well. There were no hiccups, we all seemed to be getting along great. To make things easier and more organized I created a chore chart that evenly divided the chores between the 4 of us. This was going to ensure everyone was doing their part to keep the house clean. I also made magnets with our initials on them to use for laundry days. If you wanted to do laundry, you'd have to take your magnet and place it on the day you want to do laundry. You would have that whole day to do laundry. Chores were color coded and if your name was written in a color that would be your chore for that day. It was incredibly detailed, and some may say I am really controlling for this system but it's what I thought would be the best way to delegate and make sure everything was fair. Nobody really complained about it either.
In April Britney said she was interested in gardening and having a few house plants. We were all for it, even I wanted to have a few plants. She had three small herb plants on the windowsill above the sink and it never would've been an issued if she knew how to take care of them. Unfortunately, after a while she started to over water them and gnats became a problem in the house. I told her that her plants were attracting gnats in the house and that she needed to find a way to plant them outside. I suggested she buy one of those tin tubs and start a garden in it that she could have outside. She got super pissed and offended that I would tell her how to spend her money. She even refused to accept that her plants were causing the gnats and blamed it on the trash. I even asked her to move the plants into her room if she didn't want to plant them outside and she blatantly said no. I didn't want to make a bigger deal about it so I just let it go. Eventually she stopped over watering the plants and the gnats went away.
In May chores began falling behind. It wasn't one person's fault, it was everyone's. We were all guilty of not doing what we were supposed to do. I called for a house meeting and I thought i was being empathetic and kind about the situation, since I myself was also falling behind. I wasn't trying to single anybody out and said we all needed to get back on top of our chores. Britney threw a fit and screamed that she had been doing chores and that she didn't need to be part of this meeting. She called us all dirty pigs and singled Sarah out for being the first one to ignore her kitchen night. It was incredibly rude and factually incorrect. At this point i began to realize Britney would never take accountability. I'd also like to say that the kitchen chore consisted of unloading the dishwasher in the morning and making sure it was loaded and started before bed. It was up to each person using the kitchen to clean up after themselves.
Jump to July. July I threw a party, which was approved by everyone else. It was for 4th of july and we invited friends from school. Since the majority of our guests were mutual friends between me, nick and Sarah we told Britney she could invite her own friends. She thanked us but ultimately had to work that night anyway. Since she wasn't going to be there we didn't require her to pitch in for the party. We bought stuff for burgers, hot dogs, popsicles, a few different alcoholic beverages and stuff to make various dips. We encouraged our guests to bring they're own alcohol or desserts. It was a good party. Halfway through Britney came home earlier than expected and even brought friends to the party. We hadn't anticipated or planned for them but weren't going to turn them away. They drank other people's beer without asking, helped themselves to chips and dip and leftover hot dogs. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if it weren't for them drinking other people's beer. the next morning Me, Sarah and Nick were cleaning up and we all thought that since Britney and her friends came to the party that she should chip in for both the clean up and the cost. She pretty much told us to fuck off and that her friends didn't eat anything from the party....Yeah. There's that audacity.
September: this story is actually kinda funny but still a testament to how shitty she was. I was at home in the dining room doing a project for a class. I needed a wide table space so I was using the dining table. Britney brings her boyfriend over, we exchange a few hello's and they go to her room. Her door is only 10 feet away. They start playing loud country music from her room and I literally am just like "Jesus, how inconsiderate can you be. It doesn't need to be that loud" Well 5 minutes later I find out why they're playing loud ass music. I start hearing her bed hitting against the wall as well as my roommates moans. I'm sitting there in the dining room, gluing magazine pictures to a poster board, and involuntarily listening to my roommate get railed. I am dumbfounded. Flabbergasted. Gobsmacked! And suddenly I just hear a loud crisp *SMACK*. At this point I am mortified. And I have no idea how she wasn't. when they finally emerged from her bedroom 10 minutes later I couldn't even look her in the eye.
In October Britney decided to host her own party, a halloween costume party. We were all game for it and she said we could invite a few of our own friends but that ultimately it was her party and she wanted it to be mostly her friends. We understood, we had our own party in july, she can have hers and we'll just invite our closer friends. We even pitched in for the alcohol and snacks. But there was one rule. No weed on property. That's a stipulation in our lease. No weed. But of course, in true Britney fashion, she completely disregards the rules and brought weed to the party anyway. Even if she didn't bring it, it was her responsibility to tell her guest to put it away. I didn't say anything to my sister, I let it slide because as much as we were beginning to hate Britney we also needed that 4th roommate. But it certainly came in handy later on.
In November me and Sarah bought a gold fish. The lease did say no pets but I don't really view a gold fish as a pet since...it literally doesn't do anything or bring any harm to the house. The fish died a few days later anyway so no harm done except to our hearts. RIP Sushi. A few days later Britney comes home with a whole ass baby bearded dragon. They are cool and since I had a fish I let this slide. Afterall. how much damage could a bearded dragon do? WELL!!!! LET ME TELL YOU! I was sitting in the living room one day watching tv and out of the corner of my eye i see a bit of movement on one of our baseboards. I get a closer look and I see it's a small baby grasshopper. I kill it and as I'm walking to the trash i see another. then another, and another and so on. Our house is INFESTED with these tiny baby grasshoppers that I know are used as food for bearded dragons. I know because the kid I nanny also has a bearded dragon. I remember finding these baby grasshoppers all over the fucking house, some dead but most were alive. In our rooms, in the common areas, the bathrooms, EVERYWHERE. I sent pictures of the dozens of piles i swept up of these grasshoppers and I sent them to Britney and said "Just so you know, your bearded dragons grasshoppers somehow got out". And you would think that a logical response from a decent human being would be "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I don't know how that happened. I'll come home ASAP to help clean up" but no. This bitch is a narcissist incapable of doing anything wrong and she responds with "Those are from outside. They're too big to be for my bearded dragon" I literally laughed outloud to myself. This was it. This was the straw that broke the horses back. Sweet and docile me broke and said "I'm not fucking stupid. They are tiny and I know they are for your pet. The boy I nanny has these for his dragon too. Come home and help clean this bullshit up"
Britney was also notorious for leaving her laundry in the washers and dryer past her laundry day. And it seemed to always effect Nick's laundry day because he would be nice and let her finish. But he had enough. So at exactly midnight he went to the laundry room, pulled her damp clothes out of the dryer and dropped them at her door in the hallway on the floor. I'm sorry but i was dying of laughter at his pettiness. We had all been tired of her antics and bullshit and it was fun having a little bit of payback. However, I will say Nick took it a step too far and banged on her door and shouted "Not your laundry day anymore bitch!" Britney's boyfriend came out and he and Nick started yelling at each other. I swear I thought a fight was seriously going to break out. I broke it up, told Britney she needed to adhere to the rules of laundry day just like the rest of us and Nick apologized for startling her. Everyone went to bed. THE NEXT MORNING, tensions are high between Nick, Britney and her boyfriend. The boyfriend, we'll call him Dick for funsies, got up in Nick's face for no reason at all. Nick was livid and asked me to reach out to to my brother in-law. My brother-in-law banned Britney from having her boyfriend over since he was creating a hostile environment and it wasn't fair to Nick since he was the one paying to live there. And if she didn't like it she could leave. She didn't and she adhered to the rule, for a time.
In December my sister and her husband came to town to do some work on the house to get it ready to be sold. We had known for a few weeks now that they were selling so we were working with them and the realtors to keep the place neat and tidy for house tours. It wasn't ideal but we understood. I'm in the living room playing with my new niece while my BIL is working on the A/C unit and who walks in? Britney and her boyfriend. Oh the joy that spread across my face in that moment. Britney and Dick went to her room and I looked at my BIL and said "that's her boyfriend". in that moment she and dick started to leave and my BIL walked out after them and gave her her official eviction notice. OH SWEET SWEET JUSTICE! Or so we thought. Britney's mommy called my BIL and begged him not to kick her out. her reason? She didn't want her to come back home. LMFAO. My BIL gave her one more chance to clean up her act but the rest of us weren't having it. We didn't care that holidays were coming, we wanted her gone. So I told him about her october party and the weed and he finally put his foot down and evicted her for real.
Unfortunately things didn't get better overnight. Britney was given a week to move her stuff out and turn in her key. One of the first things she took? Believe it or not, the outdoor trashcan (Which we all paid for) and in our city, the garbage collectors won't pick up trash unless it's in a bin. So for TWO WEEKS the city didn't pick up our trash and we had to verbally fight with Britney to get the trashcan back. It was absolute bullshit and I never wanted to strangle someone before. Not only that, but the plants she had sitting on the windowsill above the sink had papertowels sitting underneath them to absorb access water. When she removed them I saw how fucked up and bubbled the window sill had become from water damage. But at least the demon had finally been cast out and we were able to enjoy our last month in the house without her.
We never spoke or heard from Britney again...thank God.

Honda’s luxury brand Acura is a division of the Japanese company. Only one Acura sports car exists in the world, and it is an excellent machine. With the introduction of the Acura Integra, Honda introduced the world’s first aluminum-production vehicle, as well as VTEC technology. Acura NSX buyers can select from a variety of optional extras as well as standard Acura features. There’s also the NSX GT3, which is specifically designed for race car drivers. This is not a production car, nor is it allowed on a racetrack.

Acura TLXs start at $37,700 in 2022 and are extremely affordable for a luxury midsize car. All-wheel drive will increase the price by $2,200. The Acura TLX, which includes the Type S Performance, is the entry-level model. Packages for wheels and tires start at $53,600.

The Acura NSX, the company’s flagship hybrid sports car, costs around $160,000. A 1991 Acura NSX, priced at $62,000, has an Instant Market Value of $91,342 on CarGurus. The NSX’s RWD configuration is popular due to its high performance and low fuel consumption.

The Acura Nsx Type S Is A High Performance Sports Car.
Acura’s NSX Type S sports car is a cutting-edge performance model that will set you apart. This car has a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph, making it a fitting choice for those who enjoy driving fast. The 2021 Acura NSX begins at $157,500, but many other luxury sports cars have more expensive top trims than the NSX. If you want a car that will leave a lasting impression on people and will handle some of the best track conditions you can find, the Acura NSX is a great choice.

How Much Are Acura Nsx Cars?
The Acura NSX will set you back around $28,000. The starting price for the 2022 Acura NSX Type S is $169,500, which is quite high for a luxury sports car.

The 2022, Acura NSX has a powerful V6 hybrid engine that can propel it to breathtaking speeds. The NSX’s interior is roomy, its seats are comfortable all day, and it has a longer-than-average warranty. If you’re thinking about an older model, our older model reviews can help you make the best decision. The 2022 Acura NSX Type S has a 600-hp hybrid powertrain combined with all-wheel drive. The Chevrolet Corvette, like the Acura NSX, is a mid-engine sports car. As a result, the Nissan GT-R starts at around $55,000 less than the BMW M3. This is a better sports car than others and a better value overall.

The Acura NSX Type S can travel from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 2.9 seconds. The NSX can also be driven silently at low speeds with an electric-only Quiet mode. The interior of a $170,000 car is uncomfortable. The capabilities of the infotainment system are limited, but they are simple to use. Acura NSX has a trunk that measures 4.4 feet long and 9.4 feet wide. There is excellent visibility on both sides due to the thin roof pillars and a low-slung hood. The cabin also muffles road and wind noise in addition to muffling road and wind noise.

The Acura NSX Type S is only available in 300 models in the United States. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds thanks to a 600-hp hybrid powertrain, lithium-ion battery pack, and all-wheel drive. The current-generation NSX was released in 2017, and it continues to mix civility and sportiness with its predecessor’s civility. The 2022 Acura NSX Type S is among the best vehicles in its class. Driving fast but relaxing when you pilot day in and day out is exhilarating and enjoyable. Its powerful V6 hybrid system has been described as the most advanced in its class. The issue is that, while the NSX has the look of a luxurious car, it does not offer the level of luxury that it claims to provide.

This is an introduction. The Honda NSX is a true sports car, one of the most iconic models in history. It’s not only one of the most expensive, but it’s also one of the most well-known. The Honda NSX is a fantastic driver’s car with an excellent combination of performance and handling. Furthermore, it is a beautiful vehicle with a sleek design that will undoubtedly draw attention. If you want a car that is both reliable and extremely luxurious, you should consider the Honda NSX.

How Much Does A 2020 Acura Nsx Cost?
In the United States, the 2020 Acura NSX will retail for $157,500, including the $1,995 destination fee. That is well below the Porsche 911 Turbo S and Audi R8 V10, as well as the Lamborghini Huracan and Ferrari 488 GTB, which are on the high end of the price spectrum.

If a 2020 Acura NSX with no options and 12,000 miles per year in clean condition was sold for $110,042, it would be worth around $540,050 in trade-in value. You should deduct a couple thousand dollars for each of the lower two condition levels if the vehicle is in poor shape. If you traded in a 2020 Acura NSX with no options and 12,000 miles per year in clean condition, you could get about $110,042 for one with no options. You can get a more accurate appraisal by going to Edmunds and entering the vehicle’s details, which will give you a more accurate number.

The Acura NSX Type S, on the other hand, will not be available in the United States until 2022, according to Acura. Acura has confirmed that the supercar has sold out. There is currently only one NSX model available in 2022 – the NSX Type S, a 600-hp farewell to the Japanese supercar. The 2020 all-wheel drive (AWD) model’s limited weight and 573 horsepower make it a viable alternative to a hybrid. Acura NSXs can travel at a top speed of 190 mph and a top speed of 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. While the Acura NSX is no longer available in the United States, it will always be remembered in Japan. Acura NSX epitomized what a supercar could be, and its legacy will last for a long time after it is no longer available.

The Acura Nsx: An Exotic Sports Car Worth The Price
The Acura NSX is an exotic sports car with two people inside. There is a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain in which two electric motors drive the front wheels, a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine drives the rear wheels, and an additional electric motor drives the front wheels. The base MSRP for the 2021 NSX is $157,500, making it the most expensive model in its class. The NSX, on the other hand, comes standard with a front-wheel drive model, but there are many other luxury sports cars that come with an optional, more expensive interior. The NSX, in the end, is a luxury vehicle with a high price tag that may be difficult to afford for some. Nonetheless, if you can afford it, the Acura NSX is an excellent vehicle to consider.

How Fast Is The New Acura Nsx?

The new Acura NSX is incredibly fast. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, and it has a top speed of 191 mph. It’s also very efficient, getting 28 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city.

The video above promises a performance upgrade for the Acura NSX Type S that is faster than ever before. In the teaser video, you see a close-up look at the Type S engine, then a shadowed NSX tearing through the night sky. Is it possible to make a car go faster than 60 mph? Will it go faster top speed? Can it lap faster racetracks? Why or why not? The Type S will be introduced during Monterey Car Week in California on August 12. It is expected that only 350 will be built, with production ending in 2022, when the second-generation NSX will come to an end. The NSX Type R was the subject of many rumors in the past about its 650 horsepower (485 kilowatts) engine.

A quarter mile time of 14.6 seconds also works well. Because of its all-wheel drive system and ability to take advantage of the traction provided by its tires, this vehicle can achieve this level of performance. Driving the Acura NSX is enjoyable because it is an extremely high-performance sports car. This car has a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds and a quarter mile time of 14.2 seconds, making it capable of traveling at a top speed of more than 200 mph. Furthermore, the NSX’s all-wheel drive system is designed to handle any terrain or road conditions that may arise. Whether you want a powerful sports car that can handle any kind of driving or a vehicle that can handle any type of terrain, the Acura NSX is an excellent choice.

Acura Nsx For Sale
The Acura NSX for sale is a sports car that was first introduced in 1990. It was designed to compete with the likes of the Porsche 911 and the Chevrolet Corvette. The NSX was Acura’s first foray into the world of supercars and it did not disappoint. The NSX is powered by a 3.0L V6 engine that produces 276 hp and 210 lb-ft of torque. It is rear-wheel drive and has a 5-speed manual transmission. The NSX is not only fast, but it is also extremely reliable and has a reputation for being one of the best handling cars on the road. If you are in the market for a supercar, the Acura NSX should definitely be at the top of your list.

The car has excellent gas mileage as well as excellent handling and other worldly acceleration. I drove my car 2,300 miles in three days, and I am a 6’4″ tall guy. A car like this is not designed to draw attention to itself by being brightly colored or excessively loud. The supercar character shines in track mode. You shouldn’t play Sport because it’s mediocre and the worst of Quiet and Sport Plus modes. There are numerous ways to consider the NSX’s drivetrain. It has a 3.5-liter V6 engine and two turbochargers on the inside and out. An electric motor is located between the V6 and the 9-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The first production model of the NSX was released in Japan in February 1991 as a result of a collaboration between Honda and Acura. In 1993, Acura began selling the Acura NSX in North America, and it went on to sell in Europe and Asia. Following the suspension of production in Japan in December 2001, Honda discontinued the production of the NSX in North America in March 2002. The Acura NSX Zanardi Edition, a limited edition version of the NSX introduced in 1999, is available only to a select group of buyers. Ayrton Senna, a McLaren Formula One driver who died in a car accident in 1988, was the inspiration for the Zanardi Edition. The Acura brand is marking its 25th anniversary this year with the creation of the Zanaardi Edition NSX, in honor of the memory of iconic driver Alfonso Senna. The Zanardi Edition NSX is a 1999 special edition of the NSX. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Acura’s inception, the company created a limited edition NSX that pays homage to the memory of late driver Alfonso Assis. The Zanardi Edition NSX is a limited edition version of the NSX that was introduced in 1999. The NSX Zanzaardi Edition is a limited production version that was introduced in 1999. Only 51 Acura NSX Zanardi Edition vehicles have ever been built, making it one of the most rare vehicles. If you want one, you’ll have to be willing to pay a lot of money for it. But if you’re a fan of the Senna and want a cool NSX, this is the car for you.

2023.06.07 02:06 Born-Beach Something twisted crawled out from the edge of the universe, and it’s coming our way.

The forest is black. Pitch black.
I pound over the dirt trail, my feet turning the pedals like twin pistons. The bicycle bounces and jolts, shuddering as it rolls across the wooden bridge. There’s something in the air tonight. A chill.
But it isn’t the chill of autumn. No, this is the chill of unease. It crawls up my spine carrying the deep-rooted knowledge that something about these woods, something about this trail isn’t right. It’s the unmistakable dread of being watched.
Pursued.
I stand up and ride harder. My lungs burn with every push of the pedals but I can’t shake the feeling that I need to get out of these woods fast. The hospital is twenty minutes away. I just need to make it there.
I’m close.
So close.
WOMP
Bass rumbles behind me. It’s followed by a rush of wind, enough to throw me forward while ravishing the forest like a tempest. Trees groan. Their frames break and kneel, surrendering to the gale. Branches and leaves come loose. They ricochet through the air like shrapnel, cutting into my cheek and and I throw up an arm to keep myself from losing an eye.
This is insanity.
It’s lunacy.
I don’t know what’s happening, but I know I have to make it through this. I have to get out of these woods, get back to the hospital to see my sister before the heart monitor flatlines.
She’s not doing well. Are your mother and father home?
No, ma’am.
Can you get here to be with her? She doesn’t have long.
Yes ma’am. No matter what.
The distant bass nears, growing thunderous. It’s as though the whole world is shaking, like the Earth might split in two and swallow me whole. I grit my teeth. I let loose a defiant roar, sweat pouring down my temples as my legs tremble, willing my bike forward.
Faster, dammit!
Faster!
There’s a flash. Then another.
Lightning?
No.
I’m answered by an explosion of light, so violent and bright that I can’t see a damn thing. I holler. Scream. My body jerks forward as my front wheel collides with what feels like a fallen branch. Next thing I know, I’m flying over my handlebars.
What’s the phrase?
Ass-over-tea-kettle.
Yeah, that’s it.
I brace myself for a broken arm, maybe worse, but the pain never comes. Nothing comes. It’s as though I’m floating in limbo, like gravity’s unable to finish what it started. I can’t feel a thing– not the dirt beneath me, not my face pressed against the bark of a tree. For a little while, I think I’m dead. That I’m in purgatory.
But then my eyes adjust. The world comes into focus, beginning as a blurry smudge, but soon becoming a picture-perfect recreation of my worst nightmare.
I’m not in the forest anymore.
I’m above it.
I’m looking down at the mess of trees and I’m terrified at how small they are, how much smaller they’re getting with every passing second.
I’m floating into the sky, being carried by a narrow beam of light.

___________________________

That was a long time ago. Thirty years, give or take.
A lot’s changed since then, but one thing’s remained the same: the nightmares. I have them every night. I dream about that blinding light, that same low bass and that same gut-churning horror of being eaten by the sky.
I used to think they were a coping mechanism. I figured that since the dreams came shortly after my older sister passed, that maybe they were just how my eleven-year-old brain was dealing with the grief. My therapist seemed to agree.
“You’re quite right that there may be a link there,” she’d tell me, lowering her glasses and offering a medical-grade smile. “It’s very likely that these dreams are a form of abstract healing, a means to allow your mind to come to terms with its trauma.”
For a long time, I thought she was right. Or better put, I hoped she was. Now though? Well, I think maybe we were both wrong.
Shit.
Where are my manners?
I’m over here rambling about my childhood, and you’re wondering who the hell I am.
My name is Isaiah Mitchell. I’m a boogeyman, but not the cool kind. I don’t hide in closets or haunt old houses. I’m the type that your parents rant about while watching the evening news, the sort that tinfoil hats point to whenever things go wrong.
I’m what you might call a Man in Black.
The work I do is classified. It’s the sort of work that happens behind the scenes, with shadowy people in shadowy circles. So when I tell you that last night something catastrophic happened, I’m not talking about the stock market dipping a couple percentage points. I'm not talking about increased traffic on your morning commute.
I’m talking about trouble.
Lots of it.
It’s the kind of trouble that’s making me do something I don’t generally do, which is break rules. By the end of this, I might break all of them. But this is important, and in moments like these I find myself thinking about my late sister, Hope, and how she would have wanted me to do the right thing. It’s how she raised me, after all.
So here goes nothing.
This begins with a story, but it ends with a decision. The story is mine, and the decision is yours. When I’m finished, you get to choose whether you spend the time you have left a little wiser, or laugh this off as the ramblings of a lunatic.
Whatever you choose, I’ll have made my peace.
The story is a personal one. It’s about me, but it’s also about you– it’s about everything in the universe, right down to the last atom, and how all of us are facing a horror the likes of which we can’t begin to imagine.
It’s the story of the worst night of my life, and what might one day be the worst night of yours.
It goes like this.

_______________________

The beam of light sucks me up and spits me into absolute darkness. The sensory whiplash is enough to give me a headache, something like a migraine that pulses near my temples and feels like a bulldozer inside my skull.
It’s uncomfortable.
But not half as uncomfortable as the situation I’m in.
“Hello?” I mumble to the dark. I stumble to my feet, feeling around my environment blindly. It’s cold. Hard. It feels like I might be in a room full of metal, but I can’t imagine where that would be. A warehouse?
Footsteps echo in the distance. They’re closing in.
“Who’s there?” I sputter, and I think maybe I’ve been drugged. People don’t just up and float into the sky in the middle of the night. It isn’t a thing.
That means I’m hallucinating.
That means whoever kidnapped me knows a thing or two about stealing kids.
That means they’re a professional.
What’s the phrase?
Serial killer.
Yeah, that’s it.
WOOOOMP
I clap my hands to my ears. It’s that same bass from the forest, except now it’s reverberating all around me. Another bass joins it. This one is different… coming from a new direction, with a lower tone. It’s almost like they’re communicating– like morse code.
“Please,” I beg. “Just let me go. I swear I won’t tell anybody!”
Static crackles. It’s followed by a sharp squeal of microphone feedback, then the buzz of modulating frequency. “Communication calibrated,” a digital voice says. “Subject identified: homosapien. Geographic location: New Mexico. Language model: English.”
There’s a pause, it’s long and silent enough that I can hear my pulse rushing through my veins. I’m positive I’m going to die. These things don’t happen to people who live to tell the tale.
“Can you understand us, homosapien?” the voice asks.
Yes, I say.
Can you turn on the lights? I ask.
The only thing worse than being murdered is being murdered in the dark.
Yes, they say.
I’m blinded for the third time in as many minutes. I blink, my eyes adjusting to the green glow as it fills the chamber. Wherever I am, it’s strange. Alien. Tall vats of liquid are scattered around a large, circular room, each hosting tubes that extend outward to a central console. Everything is metallic. I can’t make out any labels– any sort of identification at all.
“Is this level of light sufficient?” another voice asks, this one right behind me.
I wheel around, and my breath catches in my chest. In front of me is something that doesn’t exist– can’t exist. It’s roughly ten feet tall, and it’s got sharp teeth, sharp claws, scaled skin, and a tail. It’s a monster. A living, breathing monster.
Fuck.
I scramble backward. My back collides with one of the vats, and blue liquid sloshes against the glass. “Thehellareyou?” I shout all at once.
“We are the Chosen,” says the first voice, approaching my other side. “We are lifeforms from many galaxies away, and we have come to save humanity.”
They stare at me through giant eyes, and each of those eyes are filled with dozens of pulsing pupils. Almost like ink blots.
“I’ve been abducted…” I sputter, hardly able to breathe. “By aliens. Aliens… are real… and I’ve been abducted…”
“Correct,” says one of the aliens. I realize this one has gray scales, while the other has teal. At least I can tell them apart.
Gray looks at his arm, and a digital screen comes to life. He taps at it with a crooked finger. “Readings indicate heightened levels of cortisol and increased adrenal flow. Source: Fight or flight response. Biologically rational, but devoid of purpose.” He looks at me, cocks his over-large head to the side. “You have neither the option to fight us or flee us, so it would be best to comply. Do you understand?”
My jaw hangs open. I don’t know what to say. I don’t know what to do. Are these aliens really standing there reading me my Miranda Rights? “Are you going to probe me?” I ask. “Like the movies?”
Teal blinks at me, his pupils dilating. “Negative.” He points to a vat. “We will break down your genetic tissue into usable material, harvesting your most compatible DNA strands while discarding the rest. It is for the greater good.”
I follow his finger to the tank, and now that I’m right up against it, I can see clearly what’s floating inside. My stomach twists into a knot. Inside of it is a human body. Everything from the man’s waist down has been dissolved, and what’s left of his intestines are dangling freely.
“Jesus Christ!”
“There is no cause for concern,” Teal says. He lumbers across the chamber to the metallic console that all the tubes are feeding into. “Your disappearance will be accounted for. A clone will be deployed to resume your life, preventing suspicion and avoiding social disruption.”
“Let me get this straight,” I say, trying to ignore how faint I’m starting to feel. “You’re going to kill me… to save humanity?”
“Correct.”
The room spins. My chest gets tight and my vision becomes a scrambled mess. My ears are ringing like church bells. I stumble, losing my sense of equilibrium and I think I taste vomit in my throat.
“No,” I mutter. “This isn’t happening… Can’t be happening…”
I steady myself against a vat, looking up to see a dead woman’s face staring back at me. Pieces of her skull have been eaten away. I can see the wrinkles of her brain underneath.
“Heart rate out of range,” Gray says, but I hardly hear him. He grabs my wrist, presses a device against the center of my hand.
I struggle. Fight. I try to use my teeth, but he’s strong, much stronger than me. A coldness pulses against my palm, almost like an ice cube, and soon that frigid sensation is traveling across my fingertips. Up my arm.
“What did you…” I mutter, but the sensation is rolling through the rest of my body. It’s soothing. My eyes find my palm and I see a strange shape seared into the skin, a scatter of dots surrounding a black square. Suddenly I can’t remember the thought I was trying to finish. Was any of this really worth panicking over?
It was just a few corpses in vats, after all.
“You have been administered a sedative,” Gray explains.
My heart rate slows. My ears stop ringing. The ghost of a smile sneaks across my face.
Gray’s staring at his display. “Cortisol levels reduced. Adrenal response suppressed. Biometric readings indicate subject has achieved a suitable level of suggestibility to proceed.”
“Affirmative,” says Teal, working the console.
I feel like I’m drifting through the lake on a warm summer day. My heart is full. I’m in absolute bliss, and all I can think is that Hope should get to experience this before she dies…
“Pulse is quickening,” Gray says with a frown.
Hope.
My sister.
My dying sister, alone in the hospital wondering why her little brother abandoned her.
“Sedation effect dropping,” Gray says. “98%. 94%. Emotional instability reaching unacceptable levels.”
“Hope,” I sputter, feeling like I’m coming out of a daze. “I have to get to the hospital– please! My sister is sick! She needs me!”
Gray presses the device against my other hand, and another pulse of relaxation courses through me. “Invalid concern,” he tells me. “Clone will be a perfect recreation of you, body and mind. It will retain all memories allowing it to continue your life uninterrupted. Conclusion: your expiring sibling will receive suitable emotional support prior to her decomposition.”
Fucking aliens. It takes everything I have to fight against the sedative, to make my case. “How?” I groan. “How is my DNA supposed to save humanity? What the hell is it saving us from anyway?”
Teal turns from the console to face us. His giant eyes are narrowed in a thoroughly displeased manner. “Invalid request. Information too critical to risk dissemination.”
“Rebuttal,” says Gray. “Clone’s memory can be modified. Current biometric readings indicate high levels of emotional discontent, placing likelihood of a compromised harvest at 34%. Solution: permit subject to understand purpose of sacrifice. Result: sense of closure and enhanced probability of project success.”
Teal turns back to the console. “Rebuttal accepted. Proceed.”
Gray looks at me. He places his scaly fingers against my head, and I squirm a little. “Brace yourself for disorientation,” he tells me. “You will experience physical unease and hyperstimulation. After, you will understand the horror that awaits your species in the dark.”

______________________________

For a long time, that’s as far as the nightmare gets. Gray prattles on that I’m about to see the truth, some twisted fate that justifies melting humans into sludge, but before he can deliver the goods, I wake up.
Every. Time.
Blue balls doesn’t begin to describe it.
Last night, it happens again. The nightmare, I mean. Same aliens, same tanks of human soup, but this time I wake up in a cold sweat. My phone is ringing on the bedside table. There’s a name on the screen that I hate to see.
“Whatisit?” I grumble.
“Jesus Christ, Mitchell. I’ve been calling for ten minutes!”
My boss. Lisa.
She goes off. The words are coming out like machine-gun fire, and from the background chatter I figure she’s speaking to more than just me. It sounds like there’s a crowd around her, like she’s briefing suits as she jogs down a hallway.
“Got all that?” she asks.
Something about a shitstorm. Something about an F35. The air force just shot down a UAP, which is how we say UFO these days to avoid getting laughed out of the room. Apparently it happened in New Mexico. My backyard.
This calls for a liter of coffee. Maybe two.
I stumble into the kitchen and put a pot on. I have some time while she holds the phone to her chest and barks orders at the drones around her. One cream. One sugar. My spoon clinks against the side of the mug as her voice blares through the speaker.
“Mitchell?” she says. “Still there?”
She says she’s got coordinates. I take a sip of scalding java. I’m dazed enough I barely feel it burn my tongue. My fingers punch the coordinates into my laptop, bringing up the location the supposed UAP was shot down.
I spit my coffee over my screen.
“The fuck?” I mutter, leaning forward and doing a double take at the map.
“What is it?” she’s asking.
“Nothing,” I’m saying.
But it’s a lie. The truth is, the coordinates are a dead match for the forest where I had my waltz with psychosis thirty years ago. They’re the coordinates from my dream. Right down to the rickety old bridge.
I ask her if she’s sure the numbers are correct.
“Am I sure?” she snaps. “Look, if you’re asking me if this is another Chinese spy balloon then the answer is go fuck yourself. I’ve been pulling my hair out for the past twenty minutes. This is the real deal, so suit up and get ready to go. I’ve got a bird on the way.”
The clock on my microwave reads 2:34 a.m. and my stomach is telling me to sort my life out. “Do I have time for breakfast?” I ask.
Click.
The line goes dead.
Twenty minutes later, a helicopter is landing on my lawn. I board it in a daze, and we take off in the direction of the crash like we’re trying to outrun a cruise missile. I’m watching the lights of the countryside drift by, and it occurs to me that from all the way up here, in the dead of night, they almost look like stars.
I wonder how long it’d take to snuff them out.
How long it’d take to burn a whole galaxy to ashes?
To crush a universe in the palm of your hand?
Things to consider.
The closer we get to the crash site, the worse my thoughts become. They’re bordering on obsessive. I’m tangoing with darkness. Radio chatter is coming through the com line, something about aliens and extraterrestrials, but all I’m thinking about is controlling my bladder.
I’m drowning in hypotheticals.
I’m wondering what happens if I lose my mind between here and the crash site, what the protocols are, where they’ll take me. Do I get the night off? The week?
“Everything okay, sir?”
It’s the co-pilot. She’s turning in her seat and looking at me like I’m having a medical emergency.
“You look a bit pale,” she tells me.
My muscles work overtime as I twist my mouth into a smile. “Never better,” I lie. “How far out are we?”
“Twenty miles,” she says with a reassuring grin. She turns back in her seat and I take the opportunity to let out an exhausted sigh.
I close my eyes. Take a dozen deep breaths.
Happy thoughts.
I try to ignore how dry my mouth is, how badly my hands are shaking. I try to ignore the fact that every time I look down at my palms, I see that same scatter of dots, that same faded square that no doctor has been able to explain. “I’ve never seen scars like that,” they tell me. “How’d you get them?”
I don’t know, I tell them.
I don’t know.
But I do.
I’ve known this entire time, probably, but I’ve just been too terrified to accept it. I’m not what I think I am– this world isn’t what I think it is either. It’s all of this that’s making me want to curl into a ball. It’s making me want to weep on the floor, to scream at the top of my lungs and pull my hair out with everything I have.
It’s making me want to throw open the helicopter door, take a breath of fresh air and then plunge head-first into the dirt like a human turnip. And if I thought it was that easy, I might just do it.
But somehow, I know it isn’t.
I know it won’t save me– won’t save us, from what’s coming.
See, last night I had the same dream I’ve had for the last thirty years. The same abduction. The same aliens. But last night, I got to see the director’s cut. The Extended Edition. Last night, when Gray told me he was going to show me just how fucked we all are, he actually came through.
Imagine that.
What I saw was everything.
I saw how all of this ends. How all of it began. What I saw is what’s waiting for us in the black infinity of space. And the more that I think about it, the more I think it might be driving me mad.
“Just up ahead,” says the pilot. “Ten minutes to touch down.”
Eight minutes.
Five.
“Jesus,” he says, at the three minute mark. “Are you two seeing this?”
And up ahead is a plume of smoke, rising into the night sky. There’s the faint flicker of fading fires, the haphazard glow of industrial lighting, and there, at the center of it all, is the unmistakable shape of something that shouldn’t exist.
“That… doesn’t look like it’s from this planet…” the co-pilot mutters over the com line.
“No,” the pilot replies, and his voice is shaking. “It doesn't.”
They’re right. They both are. What it looks like is something extra-terrestrial, something alien. It looks like something ripped straight from my worst nightmares.
And really, that’s just where I wish it had stayed.
