Books acquired through our new Amazon Kid's Plus account are only displaying in double-page sets. This means the text's footprint is often only ⅛ of the screen. Backstory: I recently bought and then returned a regulasmaller sized kindle intended for my child after seeing the size of it and realizing the screen size would be difficult to use for a parent-child guided reading session.
Since then we upgraded to the Kindle 6.8" Paperwhite (I traded in my archaic model for the extra 20 bucks off plus the promo code, so even through it was still pricier, I was convinced it was the right thing to do.....)
New Paperwhite signature in hand, I waded through all the bazillion steps of selecting the appropriate age filters, blocked access to the Amazon store, located language preferences, scheduled the daily lighting schedules, and finally downloaded about sixteen books for us to choose from yesterday evening.
This is where the fail begins: we've tried over half of the books I selected, and not one of them has displayed properly in a one-page-per-screen setup for viewing. The option for changing font size is greyed out/not available. Changing from portrait to landscape view does nothing but rotate the still-too-small set of double pages within a sea of huge grey margins. If we could just view these books one page at a time as one would expect to do with an e-reader, I think the words would be large enough and everything would probably look great. As it is though, I've not found any way to select a one-page at a time view, and this goes for the settings within parent dashboard as well as child settings. There's a very screwball 'zoom'feature which allows very little control over which part the user wishes to zoom in in, and you cannot attempt to get to the next page until zooming back out and then pressing the x at the zoomed image- this x does not reliably close the 'zoom experience' every time though and several times we've ended up inadvertently backing out of the entire book by trying whatever else we can think of to exit the botched-zoom.
If this is just the reality of "how it is" for Amazon+ kids books, then this would qualify as the most frustrated with Amazon I've ever been and the biggest black hole they've ever offered and gotten away with.
Please someone tell me there's something I'm missing here. Is this just the experience of how children's books are? Are the reading materials for ages 4 to 7 just a joke, with everything permanently squished into double-page mode? Surely this is fixable. Is anyone somehow getting use out of text that's been reduced to a thumbnail's worth of footprint within such an otherwise spacious screen accommodation? Putting two pages on the screen at a time, every time, results in so much unused screen space and such tiny text it's just a real bummer.
I can post pictures as examples tomorrow if anyone's not able to visualize what I'm describing. The reading age range we're talking about here is anything from age 4, 5, 6, maybe some age 7. Thank you srsly for reading this and thanks in advance if you can solve or even just commiserate.
Ps- we've had this issue with Overdrive kids books as well, on former Kindle devices. And here I was thinking "If I buy further into the system, with a made-for-kids subscription plan on a device that's actually larger, those problems will be obsolete." Hyuck hyuck. Yeah I'm feelin pessimistic. Srry

2023.06.08 06:36 Lonely-Machine-4993 Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 Review, Experience and Recommendations? i7 vs i5? is i7 worth for more $?
Hey everyone,
I've been eyeing the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 for a while now, and I'm curious to know if any of you have had experience with this laptop. I've read some reviews online, but I wanted to get some firsthand opinions from the Reddit community.
If you own or have used the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8, I would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts and experiences with the laptop. Here are a few specific questions I have:
- Cooling and Noise: Does the Slim 7i handle heat well, and is the fan noise noticeable during intensive tasks? Does it get too hot during intensive gaming sessions?
- Battery Life: How long does the battery last during normal usage?
- Any known issues or quirks: Have you encountered any specific problems or quirks with the laptop? Are there any common complaints or issues that potential buyers should be aware of?
- Overall Recommendation: Based on your experience, would you recommend the Lenovo Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 to others? Why or why not?

GALATIANS Chapter Four (
https://esv.literalword.com/?q=Galatians+4)
-3. … we were enslaved [משעבדים,
MeShoo`eBahDeeYM] to
fundamentals [ליסודות,
LeeYÇODOTh] [of] the world.
“The word τα στοιχεια [ta stoikheia], the elements ... meant (a) the letters of the alphabet… (b) the elements of which a thing was composed, as the fire, air, earth, and water of which the world was thought to be constituted; (c) the elements of the universe, the larger cosmos, including the sun, moon, planets, and stars; and (d) the spirits, angels, and demons which were believed to ensoul the heavenly bodies, traverse all space, and inhabit every nook and cranny of earth, particularly tombs, desert places, and demented persons. These spirits were said to be organized like human governments. In Rom. [Romans] 8:38 Paul calls them ‘principalities’ and ‘powers.’ And vss. [verses] 9 and 10 of our present chapter indicate that he has them in mind in vs. [verse] 3. …
Paul … includes in ‘the elements of the universe’ all sub-Christian ideas and observances, both Jewish and Gentile. He regards these ‘elements’ as slave drivers who frighten men with curses for not propitiating them by observance of special days and seasons, food taboos, dietary fads, and circumcision. In Christ he declared his independence of Fate, Fortune, Luck, and Chance, and from astrology, the counterfeit religion and bastard sister of astronomy, whose practitioners exploited the superstition that the stars controlled men’s lives from birth to death.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 521 & 522)
“The elements of the world] A mere Jewish phrase, יסודי עולם הזה yasudey ‘olam hazzeh, ‘the principles of this world;’ that is, the rudiments or principles of the Jewish religion. The apostle intimates that the law was not the science of salvation; it was only the elements or alphabet of it.” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II p. 387)
-4. But [אבל,
’ahBahL] as that
was filled the time, sent forth, Gods, [את,
’ehTh (indicator of direct object; no English equivalent)] His son,
born [of]
woman, and
subject [וכפוף,
VeKhahPhOoPh]
to instruction [Torah, Law].
“The four words, το πληρωμα του χρονου [to pleroma tou khronou], the fullness of the time, express a whole philosophy of history. The Hebrew prophets and Jewish apocalyptists believed that their God was the creator of the universe and arbiter of the destinies of all men and nations. Nothing could happen that was not his doing, either directly or indirectly through angels and men. He had a time for everything, and everything happened exactly on time. … The completion of this present age would be marked by a blood-red revolution, in which all good men and good works would be ground under the heel of the tyrant, while the wicked reigned supreme. Then suddenly God would intervene with the lightning of judgment to snatch the world from the mouth of the bottomless pit and restore it to Paradise, whence it had fallen with the sin of Adam. Sorrow and sighing would flee away, and the Messiah would reign with the perfection of a theocratic king.
At this juncture, says Paul, when the appointed period of history was ‘full,’ god sent his Son γενομενον εκ γυναικος, γενομενον υπο νομον [genomenon ek gunaikos, genomenon upο nomon], ‘born of woman, bοrn under law.’ … Jesus was not only born under law, but was subject to it all his life. ...The ‘yoke’ of the Torah demanded that he observe the customs of his forefathers, such as wearing phylactery and prayer fringes, ceremonial washing of hands before eating, giving thanks at mealtime, praying at stated times, bringing tithes and sacrifices, and obeying the Ten Commandments.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 522 & 523)
Not to mention circumcision, kashrut, and the prohibition of associating with gentiles.
“Sent forth refers to God’s sending of his Son from his pre-existent state in heaven (I Cor. [Corinthians] 8:6; Phil. [Philippians] 2:6-8; Col. [Colossians] 1:15-17). Yet this Son was born of woman. There is nothing in these words, or elsewhere in Paul’s letters, to prove or disprove that he knew the story of the miraculous conception. His point here is that the Christ, although he was the pre-existent Son of God, did not come into this world with a body composed of celestial substance, but was woman-born like all other human beings. … It was very different from the conception of royal sonship in Ps. 2, where the king is called God’s ‘Son; because he has been chosen to be the Messiah. In Paul, Jesus is God’s Son by nature, and his Christhood follows by virtue of this sonship. This belief was the fundamental cause of the split between the Jews and the Christians. The lowly birth, the obscurity of Nazareth, and the fact that Jesus was a common laborer, constituted a grievous scandal in the eyes of all who were expecting their Deliverer to come riding on a chariot of clouds wielding the lightning of judgment. Paul’s gospel contradicts every form of hyperspirituality that fixes a gulf between God and his material world. On the other hand, his conception of the coming of Jesus was poles removed from the pagan stories of the births of heroes, savior-gods, and kings, whose legends were freighted with illicit relationships and lawless conduct like the lives of the devotees who had created them in their own image.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 523-524)
“Nothing is said explicitly about the Son’s preexistence, which is at most implied … born of a woman: … The phrase is derived from the OT [Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible] (Job 14:1 …). So born, Jesus submitted to the law by being circumcised and thus became capable of falling under its curse. But lest the Galatians draw a wrong conclusion, Paul [and The Interpreters’ Bible] does not mention Jesus’ circumcision. Instead of genomenon, ‘born,’ some patristic writers read gennomenon, and understood this ptc. [participle] as referring to Mary’s virginal conception; but this is anachronistic interpretation.” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 787)
-7. Accordingly [לפיכך,
LePheeYKhahKh], you are not [אינך,
’aYNKhah] a slave anymore [אוד,
’OD], for if [כי אם,
KeeY ’eeM] a son, and, if a son, then [אזי,
’ahZahY] also heir from favor [מטעם,
MeeTah`ahM] [of] Gods.
“This is Paul’s proclamation of emancipation.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 528)

Worry of Shah’OoL to Galatians
[verses 8–20]
-8. In [the] past, in a time that you did not know [את,
’ehTh] Gods, you slaved [את,
’ehTh] who that in their nature [שבמנהותם,
ShehBeMahHOoThahM] were not Gods.
“The Jews never ceased to ridicule idols and denounce idolaters… They demoted the old gods to the rank of demons and made a list of detractive names for them: angels, shepherds, princes; kings, emperors, benefactors, heroes; demons, personifications, idols, nonentities. Some were living, some dead; some were good, but were not God. Most of them were bad, and their idols were but images of ‘things of nought.’ …
Paul did not deny the existence of these beings whose ignorant worshipers called them gods, but he declared that they did not partake of the nature of God (I Cor. 8:4-6). God permitted them to plague mankind to punish sin, especially the sin of participating in the sacraments of the Gentile cults (I Cor. 10:19-22; 11:28-31). But Christ had conquered them and no Christian needed to fear them.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 529)
-10. Behold, you are honoring days and new-[moons], seasons [מועדים,
MO`ahDeeYM] and years.
“Days like the Sabbath and Yom hakkippurim [“Day of Atonement”] are meant; months like the ‘new moon’; seasons like Passover and Pentecost; years like the sabbatical years… Paul can see no reason for a Gentile Christian to observe these.” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 788)

Two the covenants
[verses 21-26]
-21. Say to me, you, the wanters to be subject to
Instruction, have you not heard [את,
’ehTh] the Instruction?
-22. Is it not written that to ’ahBRahHahM there were two sons, the one from the maid [האמה,
Hah’ahMaH] and the second from the woman the free [החפשיה,
HahHahPhSheeYah]?
-23. But [אך,
’ahKh] [the] son [of] the maid was born according to [לפי,
LePheeY] the flesh,
and however [ואילו,
Ve’eeYLOo] [the] son [of] the free upon mouth of the promise.
-24. The words the these, they are a parable to two the covenants:
the one from Mount ÇeeNah-eeY [Sinai], the birther to slavery, and she is HahGahR [“The Sojourner”, Hagar].
“It is well known how fond the Jews were of allegorizing; every thing in the law was with them an allegory: their Talmud [ancient commentary] is full of these; and one of their most sober and best educated writers Philo, abounds with them…
It is very likely, therefore, that the allegory produced here; St. Paul had borrowed from the Jewish writings; and he brings it in to convict the Judaizing Galatians on their own principles: and neither he, nor we, have any thing farther to do with this allegory, than as it applies to the subject for which it is quoted; nor does it give any license to those men of vain and superficial minds, who endeavour to find out allegories in every portion of the Sacred Writings; and by what they term spiritualizing, which is more properly carnalizing, have brought the testimonies of God into disgrace. May the spirit of silence be poured out upon all such corrupters of the word of God!” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II p. 390)
“Allegorical interpretation rests upon the belief that every word, figure of speech, and grammatical form in scripture has a special ‘spiritual’ significance besides its literal meaning. The theory is that the God who dictated it meant more than rests on the surface and that while he said one thing, he also meant something else in addition to the literal sense… The Greeks had long since applied the method to explain away the immoral things which the gods said and did in Homer… Then Greek-speaking Jews, like Philo Judaeus, employed it apologetically to read Greek philosophy into the O.T. [Old Testament, the Hebrew Bible], proclaiming that Moses had said all these good things long before and better than Homer and Plato.
The wonder is that Paul has so little allegory. His restraint is explained partly by his training as a Pharisee. The rabbis were suspicious of any interpretation of scripture that tended to make Jews lax in their observance of the law. Jews with Gnostic leanings, and those who considered some of their ancestral customs outmoded, could resort to allegory to justify their philosophy and conduct, while maintaining that they were the spiritual superiors of the conservatives who held to the letter of the law … His argument, however, is never strengthened by allegorical symbolism and typology, for these are convincing only to those who by imagination can find them so. Rather, as in Rom. 9-11, he introduces unnecessary complications such as the moral difficulties involved in predestination. His gospel does not rest on the quicksands of allegory, a specious method of interpreting scripture. Its interpretations are of interest to the historian not as correct representations of what the writers and first readers of the Bible had in mind, but only as source materials for understanding the life and thought of the allegorists themselves.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 540)
-25. Hagar signifies [מסמלת,
MeÇahMehLeTh] [את,
’ehTh] Mount ÇeeNah-eeY, that is in Arabia, and parallels [ומקבילה,
OoMahQBeeYLaH] to
Jerusalem of our day, for she is in slavery with her sons.
“… why does Paul mention Arabia…? Possibly because Mt. Sinai is in Arabia[?], which is Ishmaelite territory; he thus associates the Sinai pact with the eponymous patriarch of Arab tribes … Paul thus suggests that the law itself stems from a situation extrinsic to the promised land and to the real descendants of Abraham. Paul’s Jewish former co-religionists would not have been happy with this allegory.” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 788)
-26. But [אבל,
’ahBahL]
Jerusalem from ascended [מעלה, Mah`eLaH], [the] daughter [of] freedom [חורין, HOReeYN] is she, and she is mother to us.
“The Jerusalem which now is was a most unholy “Holy city”, full of injustice, violence and murder, and subject to the cruel and wicked rulers imposed by a Gentile empire. But over against this Jerusalem of slavery lay an ideal celestial city, unseen at present, but destined soon to supersede it. Paul called it the Jerusalem above. Sarah, the free-woman, was the ancestress of its citizens, who were the people of faith and of freedom in Christ…
Paul speaks of Jerusalem above, because this new city of freedom already exists in heaven where Christ is, where dwell the souls of those who have died in Christ. But it also exists on earth as the church, the body of Christ, whose members are colonists from heaven sent to prepare men for the full establishment of God’s kingdom at Christ’s second coming (Phil. 3:20; Col. 3:1-3).
The biblical root of this conception of an ideal future and heavenly Jerusalem is Isa. [Isaiah] 54. Other descriptions appear in Ezek. [Ezekiel] 40-48; Zech. [Zechariah] 2:1-13; Hag. [Haggai] 2:6-9; Tob. [Tobias] 13:9-18 Ecclus. [Ecclesiasticus] 36; Pss. Sol. [Psalms of Solomon] 17:33. Historically the expectation assumed three forms. According to the earliest hope, God would build the new Jerusalem in Palestine and make it the capital of his theocratic world government. The plan of this glorious city was graven upon the palms of his hands (Isa. 49:16). From this idea it was but a step, especially for those influenced by Greek ideas, to think of this ideal Jerusalem as already existing in heaven. According to the Apocalypse of Baruch, God had shown it to Adam in Paradise before he sinned; to Abraham on the night mentioned in Gen. 15:12-21; and to Moses on Sinai, when he gave him the heavenly pattern for an earthly tabernacle (II Baruch 4:1-6; cf. [compare with] Heb. [Hebrews]12:22). The third conception combined these two ideas. The Jerusalem which was ‘above’ would come down to earth to be established in Palestine in place of the city that ‘now is’ (cf. Rev. [Revelation] 3:12, 21:2; II Esdras 7:26; 13:36; 10:54).
So the new Jerusalem belonged to both worlds and to both ages, to heaven and earth, to the present and the future. Its constitution was the new covenant, and its citizens were the men of faith in Christ, a new kind of freemen who traced their spiritual ancestry through the line of Isaac and his mother Sarah as heirs of God’s promise to Abraham. As for Ishmael and his tribe, they were the men of law, predestined to be slaves forever. Needless to say, the Judaizers found Paul’s allegorical exclusion of themselves utterly unacceptable. They believed that the Torah was God’s blueprint for all creation, and that it would be observed forever in the new Jerusalem. That, they said, was why God was going to purge the old city – to establish an order of life in which perfect obedience to his law would be possible.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 541-542)
“…it was a maxim among the rabbins [rabbis], that, ‘Whatsoever was in the earth, the same was also found in heaven; for there is no matter, howsoever small, in this world, that has not something similar to it in the spiritual world.’ On this maxim, the Jews imagine that every earthly thing has its representative in heaven: and especially whatever concerns Jerusalem, the law, and its ordinances. Rab. ["Master", Rabbi] Kimchi, speaking of Melchisedec, king of Salem, says, זו ירושלים של מעלה Zu Yerushalem shel me’alah – ‘This is the Jerusalem that is from above.’…
There is a spiritual Jerusalem, of which this is the type; and this Jerusalem, in which the souls of all the righteous are, is free from all bondage and sin: or by this, probably the kingdom of the Messiah was intended; and this certainly answers best to the apostle’s meaning, as the subsequent verse shows.” (Clarke, 1831, vol. II p. 391)
-27. That see, is written:
“
Chant, barren, not birthing, [רני עקרה לא ילדה
RahNeeY 'ahQRaH Lo’ YahLahDaH]
burst chanting and shouting, not travailing, [פצחי רנה וצהלי לא-חלה
PeeTsHeeY ReeNaH VeTsahHahLeeY Lo’-HahLaH]
for multitudinous are sons of her deserted than [מי,
MeeY]
sons of her mistress [כי-רבים בני-שוממיה מבני בעולה
KheeY-RahBeeYM BeNaY-ShoMahMeeYHah MeeBeNaY Be'ooLaH].”
“A telling item in the counterpropaganda of the legalists was the argument that even among the Christians only a radical fringe consisting mainly of foreign Jews, of whom Paul was one, were proposing to abandon the law of Moses. …
In one respect his quotation of Isa. 54:1 does not fit Paul’s allegory. It was Sarah, the mother of freemen, who possessed the husband, and Hagar, the slave, who was the deserted woman. As usual with Paul’s illustrations (cf. Rom. 7:1-4; 11:17-24), the details cannot be pressed without making them go lame …
The Isaian figure to describe the plight of Jerusalem during the Babylonian exile grew out of a common experience in Hebrew family life. Childlessness, particularly the failure to bear sons, was great grief and disgrace. Such was the sorrow of Jerusalem; but the prophet bade her look forward with courage to the time when all her scattered children would come back to her (Isa. 54:3). God was her ‘husband,’ and he would treat his faithful remnant with everlasting lovingkindness, making them more numerous than the former population and giving them a heritage of great peace and prosperity (Isa. 54:13-17).” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 542)
“The prophet’s words are addressed to deserted Zion, bidding it rejoice at the return of the exiles.” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 788)
-28. But you, my brethren [τεχνα,
tekhna, “children”], you are the sons of the promise, as was YeeTsHahQ [“He Laughed”, Isaac].
“The Judaizers claimed that Abraham had obeyed the law of Moses by anticipation, and that God’s promise was his reward. Consequently the descendants of Isaac were children of promise only if they followed Abraham’s example in obeying the law. Paul turned it the other way about: the promise must be taken on faith, not as credit for obedience.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 542)
-29. And just as [וכשם,
OoKhShayM] that then pursued, [רדף,
RahDahPh] the son that was born according to [לפי,
LePheeY] flesh, [את,
’ehTh] the son that was born according to the spirit, yes, also now.
“In Gen 21:10 Sarah, seeing Ishmael ‘playing’ with Isaac and viewing him as the potential rival to Isaac’s inheritance, drives him and his mother out. Nothing in Gen is said of Ishmael’s ‘persecution’ of Isaac, but Paul may be interpreting the ‘playing’ as did a Palestinian haggadic explanation of Gen 21:9 (see Josephus, ANT. [Antiquities] 1.12.3§215 …” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 788)
“A rabbinical tradition of the second century A.S. interprets the Hebrew participle מצחק [MeeTsHahQ, “play”] (LXX [Septuagient, the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible] παιζοντα [paizonta] in Gen. 21:9 to mean that Ishmael’s ‘playing’ became so rough that Isaac’s life was in danger. This son of a slave is said to have shot arrows at Isaac to kill him, and Paul’s statement shows that some such tradition was current in his day. He applied it to the Judaizers who were trying to force the Christians to observe the whole law of Moses, and to the unbelieving Jews who were excommunicating the Christians and their families and getting them into trouble with the civil authorities (1:5; 4:17; 5:10; I Thess. [Thessalonians] 2:14-16).” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X p. 543)
-30. But what says the Written [Scripture]?
“
Banish [גרש
GahRaySh]
the maid and [את,
’ehTh]
her son,
for not will inheritI [יירש,
YeeYRahSh],
son [of]
the maid [האמה,
Hah’ahMaH], with son [of] the free.”
“The quotation is from Gen. 21:10 … The speaker of these words is Sarah, who is filled with rage against Hagar and Ishmael. Abraham is represented as greatly grieved, but God is said to have sanctioned the demand of the cruel and jealous wife….
This story was one of the effects and one of the causes of the perpetual feud between the Israelites and the tribes that descended from Ishmael. The Hebrews were so sure that God wanted them to have Palestine that they found no moral difficulty in saying that it was God himself who had overruled Abraham’s conscience (Gen. 17:18-21). They affirmed that Ishmael’s character and destiny had been predetermined (Gen. 16:12). Consequently, even his circumcision at the age of thirteen could not make him a member of God’s chosen people. However great this innocent victim of a family feud might become by virtue of the halfhearted blessing conceded by an uneasy conscience (Gen. 17:20-21), he and his descendants were barred forever from the higher blessing. Theirs was to submit to the religious imperialism of the most favored nation or die. Moreover, all Abraham’s other sons except Isaac were barred from the promise and sent away ‘unto the east country’ (Gen. 25:5-6). And yet while all this was said to be the Lord’s doing, it was in the same breath declared to be the doing of the human actors in this drama of the nations. Sarah herself was said to have suggested that Abraham become a father by her Egyptian slave girl. Then, too, it was explained that Hagar’s flight from the cruelty of her mistress was voluntary, making her, rather than the callous compliance of Abraham, responsible for her plight ‘in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur’ (Gen. 16:7).
Paul’s use of Abraham’s expulsion of Hagar and her child has its parallel in the equally heartless treatment of Esau which he employs in Rom. 9-11 in his longer discussion of the divine process of selection. Here too it was assumed that the hatred generated by centuries of war for the possession of Palestine lay in the heart of God. “I hate Esau,” said Malachi (1:3), making God the speaker; and Rom. 9:6-13 presses it to the utmost limit of predestination. But the love of God in Christ Jesus made Paul’s heart better than his inherited doctrine … When the history of the struggle for the possession of “the Holy land” is allegorized to justify a doctrine of “election” which foredooms countless souls to an eternity of torment in a future hell, it becomes as morally atrocious as it is irreconcilable with Paul’s gospel.
Nevertheless Paul’s allegory gives the historian an insight into Paul’s mind as he wrestled with the insoluble problem of God’s sovereignty and human freedom.” (Stamm, 1953, TIB vol. X pp. 543-544)
“Paul bids the Galatians rid themselves of the Judaizers – and, ironically enough, obey the Torah itself.” (Joseph A. Fitzmyer, 1990, TNJBC p. 788) An Amateur's Journey Through the Bible

Mirabook The [Mirabook]( https://miraxess.com/devices/mirabook-13-inch-midnight-black/) is a 13.3" clamshell style lapdock, from Miraxess, based in France. They're positioning it as a "Greentech solution" for business, aimed at reducing carbon footprint, and trying to leverage the power of existing mobile phones to replace laptops for a mobile workforce. Unlike a lot of other lapdock solutions, the Mirabook only has a USB-C input, limiting it's ability to be used with a gaming console, but will play nice with DeX, Ready For, and Huawei smartphones. The Steam Deck, and likely other handheld consoles capable of Display Alt Mode also play nice with the Mirabook. The switch however doesn't have this protocol, and wasn't tested. PORTS The left side of the Mirabook contains the USB-C Charging port, a full size USB-A port, a 3.5mm Headphone jack and a microSD card reader Left Side The right side of the lapdock has a full size HDMI OUT port, a 2nd full size USB-A port, the proprietary SLIDE PORT (this is for an upcoming phone holder adapter), and then the semi integrated Touch USB-C port. The actual USB-C port is recessed about 25mm (an inch) into the body of the lapdock, with a slot(Touch) to hold the cable when folded over. It's a clever way to hold a cable, while not making it fully integrated. It does really limit your choice of USB-C cables tho, and I suspect will lessen the lifespan of the cable in use. You can also purchase different colors of the touch holder. https://miraxess.com/devices/the-color-touch/ Right Side ports So while the Miradock does not accept an HDMI input, it does have HDMI Output. In a corporate setting, this is intended to allow you to connect to a projector, or remote screen, for presentation purposes. It only allows a mirror of the main screen, and does not support a screen extension, or 2nd screen. The semi-integrated USB-c cable The Keyboard and Trackpad The keyboard is backlit, and fairly well laid out. The keyboard is also available in multiple language types for our European folks. AZERTY FR, QWERTY IT, QWERTY JP, QWERTY UK, QWERTY US and QWERTZ DE. Pictured is my QWERTY US Keyboard. The Keyboard itself is fairly well laid out, nothing feels too cramped, and typing is a good experience. Fn Lock is unfortunately enabled tho, so spreadsheet warriors will likely not be impressed. The arrow keys are also a little bit unfortunate, but not a deal breaker Fingerprint magnet, yikes The Trackpad is generally fairly accurate, and while it doesn't have any palm rejection, the sensitivity is also a bit low, which ironically results in it not being nearly as flaky as other trackpads with regards to getting in the way when typing. That being said, tap to click almost doesn't work at all. You have to almost just accept that you need to physically click the trackpad. I personally found this more irritating than dealing with the Nexdock's early palm rejection woes. YMMV. SPEAKERS Not hyperbole to say the Mirabook has the best speakers of any lapdock I've tested. They're not hugely loud, but boy do they sound better. Watching TV and Movies was a very good experience with the speakers of the Mirabook. It's not iPad, or Tab S quality, but they're good enough that you won't be too concerned about grabbing headphones. Was really quite pleased how good they sounded. The Screen As mentioned above, this is a 13.3" matte 1080p screen. Not the slimmest bezels around, but not too bad. Non-touch screen. No ability to make any kind of screen adjustments via OSD. In colorful scenes, the image on the screen really pops. It's very vibrant looking Mirabook, bright scene. looks great Dark scenes tho.....blacks get absolutely crushed. It's really difficult to capture how dark it looks on screen. Samsung's cameras really brighten things up, but here is roughly the same scene, 1 on the Mirabook, and the other on the UPERFECT X Lite (14" matte, non-touch screen) Mirabook UPERFECT X Lite Mirabook. Just lose all detail in dark scenes Not even sure what I'm looking at here Again, I found this really difficult to capture accurately, as the samsung camera really likes to brighten things up. Overall, the screen is usable. The lack of a touchscreen, and inability to tune the panel at all are really showing the design's age. It's a bit of a letdown for media consumption, since the speakers are actually decent. Productivity tho is likely unaffected by the screen. Battery Life There's no listed details for battery size on the Miraxess site, but I was getting roughly 4ish hours of battery, with the screen at full brightness. The included powerbrick is a 45w PD charger tho, and the Mirabook thankfully charges VERY quickly. Much faster than any of the other lapdocks I have (Nd360, nd360w, Uperfect X, X lite, X mini, Uperfect V) The Chassis The Mirabook is an all black plastic shell, and while nice and rigid, is an absolute fingerprint magnet. This is about a week's worth of manhandling. Every fingerprint, ever The X on the back lights up, it's a nice touch It's definitely a stylish looking lapdock, while still looking like it will fit in a corporate environment. all the fingerprints Conclusion The Mirabook has several things in its favour; it's a solid lapdock, with good peripheral support, the ability to connect to a projector, or presentation display, and has very decent speakers for a lapdock. The availability of several different keyboard layouts will also appeal to some of our European friends, as most lapdocks have dropped down to just QWERTY US for the most part. This lapdock is definitely aimed squarely at the corporate/business world, but it wouldn't look out of place on a university campus, or in the coffee shop either. The price tho, is squarely aimed at our corporate overlords, at 499€, which is about $715 canuckbucks (or $535 USD) Hopefully this is useful for some, and it's a euro option for some that find it difficult to obtain other lapdocks. submitted by Hey_look_new to SamsungDex [link] [comments] |
2023.06.08 05:44 JoyfulJourneyman Public Journal To Fix My Life Day 9 of 90
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great day. Here's a summary for new readers:
This journal serves as a way for me to stay accountable on my journey of healing and self-improvement. I'm determined to overcome the challenges I face and believe that this journal plays a crucial role in my progress. While it may not always be interesting or entertaining to read, it will always be honest and real.
Now, let's dive into today's entry. It was a really good day for me. I started my morning with my usual 10-minute meditation, but this time I added about 3 minutes of stretching before taking a cold bath for the first time. It was quite challenging as my body instinctively wanted to escape the cold water, but I focused on my breath and managed to withstand it. The experience left me feeling invigorated, and I plan to incorporate it into my morning routine going forward.
Afterwards, I headed to college to take a midterm exam. It took me a solid 4 hours, but I felt confident in my performance and believe I could achieve a score of at least 9 out of 10. Once the exam was over, I biked back home, enjoying the exercise despite initially taking a wrong turn and getting momentarily lost. It turned out to be a pleasant opportunity to explore the city a bit more.
Upon reaching home, I had a satisfying meal and watched a documentary about my favorite soccer team's recent Champions League victory ("En EL Corazón de la 14" for those interested). It was awesome. Later in the evening, despite the cold and rain, I went for a run. I refused to make excuses as I recognize that if I didn't go today, I might never go again. It turned out to be a successful run, especially as I enjoyed the tranquility of the nearly empty park during the nighttime. Throughout the run, I set goals for myself, focusing on my breath and visualizing continuing to run over my limits. It greatly helped me stay motivated, even though I ended up exhausted.
Returning home, I brewed ginger tea with lemon and honey, and spent some time conversing with my roommates. Overall, it was a calm and fulfilling day, and I'm proud of my accomplishments.
Looking ahead, I have a slightly crazy plan for tomorrow. I want to catch the sunrise in a park with a magnificent view and take some pictures. Since the sunrise is at 5:06 am, and public transportation isn't available at that time, I'll need to bike there. While I admit it might be a bit risky as I'm unfamiliar with the route, I believe it's a risk worth taking. After all, what's the worst that could happen, right?
Now, I'll spend some time reading 10 pages of a book on communication titled "How to Talk to Anyone," followed by my meditation session before getting some sleep. I'll see you all tomorrow!

2023.06.08 05:20 Decent_Clock_4291 smog check from hell- is my car a lemon??
Hi everyone,
*im not very well-versed in car stuff so i’m sorry if anything is confusing or i come off as dumb haha, y’all seem like experts and very passionate about all things cars so I hope this is an okay place to leave my post for some possible advice/words of encouragement
So last August my car was due for its first smog check. It’s a Mazda 2 sport 2014, only 85,000 miles on it so far. I bought it from Hertz Car Sales in 2016 for about $10,000 with only 40,000 miles on it so I haven’t really used it much (I went to college for a few years and didn’t need it in the city I was living in). When I first got my car, I had only driven it for about 2 weeks before the check engine light came on, I was going to get it checked out and then got into a crash– literally was just stopped at a stop sign when a lady crashed into me lol. So when it got work done, the mechanic also did a diagnosis and said there was a bunch of sensofuse issues? And that all the problems his reader found were not actually happening and for us to not worry. I was like 18 so I was like that’s for future me to worry about lol. Now I’m 25, finally graduating college and literally everything is going wrong LOL.
Anyway, my last semester of school, I moved further from campus and wanted to bring my car up to Oakland with me. This was 3 months before my smog check was due that I had no idea was even coming up lol. I took my car to Mazda for a check up before I did the 500 mile trek but I think I was scammed? Obvi I know you shouldn’t take ur car to the dealership for work lmao but I was short with time - only had a few days to come pick it up, get it looked at/fixed before I needed to be back up North for summer semester. However, my car DID sound like something was seriously wrong with it and I had never really had it looked at prior. They estimated around $5,000 in work but I was like no way - the lady was rude asf and threatened to keep my car cuz apparently she “couldn’t let me drive it a long distance with it in this condition” LMFAO. Well we got it down to like $2,000 and they told me my check engine light was on because of an emission fuel leak in some pipes that were cracking but apparently the parts needed to fix it were on national back order for the past 3 years. I looked EVERYWHERE and couldn’t find them. A mechanic friend of mine then told me she could make her own and reinforce whatever pipes were cracking to solve my issue. Spent another $600, she assured me that all the problems should be fixed. The check engine light came on immediately.
About a month ago I got pulled over for my out-of-date registration tags and thankfully the officer just gave me a fix it ticket ($200 if I don’t fix it) although he said he could impound my car if he wanted to. I have about a month before that’s due and in the meantime have found and taken my car to 3 places that do illegal smog checks. All have made me pay an inspection fee only to not do the smog check. This last one finally explained that it’s because the diagnosis says I have 3 hard fails and most places would only pass me if I had 1 hard fail cuz they could be inspected & have their business shut down for passing me.
I guess I’m just really lost at what to do. I think I’m coming to terms with the fact that I was probably sold a lemon. I already got my 1 month temp. moving permit and cannot get another one. My car drives perfectly fine and is in GREAT CONDITION. I am in no way able to afford a new car right now - and even if I did get one, it would have to be a rlly old one with tons of miles that would probably be way more unreliable than my car. I know California has stricter emission laws than most states which is probably why this has become such a hassle but does this mean I should just sell my car? It’s not even worth $1,000 at this point lol but I cannot be car-less as I depend on it for a job i JUST got 2 weeks ago. Should I just pay my ticket and continue driving it without registration? Obviously this gives me anxiety but it beats not having a cabuying a new one for a bit. Also I’m confused cuz most, if not all, mechanics I’ve called about this have told me they can’t touch anything emission related on a car due to California’s strict laws. Like how am I even supposed to figure out what the issue is? Or does it seem like this issue is quite literally unfixable and just going to continue costing me so much money for nothing ugh.
I’m just not in a place rn where I can say bye to my car but I’m guessing that may be the only option. I’d appreciate any guidance, insight, or hopeful words. I know there are bigger problems in the world but my car is seriously my safe place due to some of my previous awful living situations so it’s been a hard pill to swallow, the thought of letting her go.
thank you in advance & sorry for the long post 😔

2023.06.08 04:08 SkullBasher999 More On How AI Is Going To Take Jobs
Heres a few examples of why ALL jobs are going to become obsolete, for humans,EVENTUALLY,SOME sooner rather than later, but also keep in mind, these technologies are only going to get bettemore efficient/more effective and these things are already possible, so the likeliness of a robot, not being able to do your job and not being able to do your job better than you as well,is really low/its inevitable for robots/AI to render humans obsolete, when it comes to needing humans, to accomplish tasks, not only will colleges only be for fun/hobbies in the future, because of AI and Robots, other technologies will render humans obsolete as well; Here are a few examples of whats been shown/used,so far, Sophia an AI Robot,Artemis Robot, which is a soccefootball playing robot,Boston Dynamics Robots, this company has contracts with Darpa/their robots are aggressive looking,Miso Robotics, this is a company that makes fast food cooking robots, such as Flippy, CookRight and Sippy; Also warehouse technology robots, like Toyota's Autonomous Forklift,Squid,Squid runs on rails, that go from the ground level, upto bays, which allow squid,to pick/pull items out of bays autonomously,Max AI Visual Identification System,is used to identify items and sort them or do certain things with items,it could be used to sort trash/recyclables on a conveyer belt autonomously,Autonomous Mobile Robots AMRs,this robot is used in warehouses,to retrieve/pull items and then take them to other locations,Handle Robot,Handle is a mobile robot that combines the rough-terrain capability of legs, with the efficiency of wheels. It is designed for material-handling applications, and features a manipulator arm capable of picking up heavy boxes, handle uses a swinging "tail" to counterbalance the weight of its arm, when it is holding a heavy box;SuperPick Polybag Picking System is a robotic solution designed by Soft Robotics Inc,the system is intended to enable e-commerce operations to automate the handling, scanning, and loading of outbound orders and returns,Starship Technologies make autonomous delivery robots, which are six-wheeled ground robots that can navigate streets and sidewalks autonomously. They are designed to be safe and robust, offering on-demand package delivery for consumers and businesses. Some have said the robots look like beer coolers, most likely this assessment came from young college kids, since currently that is where the robot/company makes most of their deliveries/this is where most of their business is carried out, on college campuses;Starship Technologies, robots can deliver a variety of items. They are currently available to deliver items on college campuses around the world, where they can deliver food, drinks, office stationery and tools. They are designed to make food and package deliveries more efficient, convenient and sustainable.
,Kiwi,Robo Mart,TeleRetail,Scout Robot, are examples of autonomous mobile robot stores; Construction robots/companies like BAUBOT,OKIBO,Hilti JAIBOT,Dusty Robotics,ULC Robotics,Built Robotics are available now as well; Also medical robots like The da Vinci Surgical Robot, also other companies like Edge Innovations, ABB Ltd,FANUC,Epson,KUKA,Staubli, just to name a few.
These are the different type of welding robots that are available as well:
Resistance Spot Welding Robots
Collaborative Welding Robots
Shielded Metal Arc Welding Robots (SMAW)
Robotic Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG)
Robotic Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG)
Robot Laser Welding.
Plasma Welding Robot.
Heres a list of companies that produce welding robots:
EVS
Panasonic
SUMIG Robotics
Kawasaki
Yaskawa Motoman
Fanuc
Comau
A LOT of jobs/workers are becoming obsolete/cashiers,warehouse workers/line workers, construction workers/the self driving field is accomplishing A LOT right now too/Elon Musk,is missing a key component/technology, and thats lidar; Also the U.S. military has had autonomous planes for decades,so pilots are Becoming obsolete as well.
A LOT can be prepped at night for construction workers/machines can be ran at night, also window installing and cleaning bots are a thing now as well.
Also autonomous agricultural bots/robots are a thing now as well.
Drs MAY become obsolete as well/their jobs could/will eventually be taken over by AI/ bots/bots ALREADY do A LOT of surgery, such as Coronary artery bypass ,cutting away cancer tissue from sensitive parts of the body ,such as blood vessels, nerves, or important body organs,Gallbladder removal, Hip Replacement, Hysterectomy,Kidney removal, kidney transplant,Mitral Valve Repair,Pyeloplasty ,surgery to correct ureteropelvic junction obstruction,Pyloroplasty,Radical Prostatectomy,Radical cystectomy,Tubal ligation.
There are several automated equipment/machines/software/robots developed for the radiology field as well, here are SOME examples:
Artificial intelligence (AI), which is a disruptive technology, for every hunan on earth, that is seeking/requiring a job/money,including Radiologist, that will inevitably be replaced in the future, the AI process involves the use of computerized algorithms to dissect complicated data. Among the most promising clinical applications of AI, is diagnostic imaging.
Medical robots handle surgeries, streamline clinical workflow and hospital logistics, and enhance patient care and workplace safety. Medical robots fall into several categories: surgical robots, modular, and autonomous.
Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) use a sophisticated set of sensors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computing, for path planning, so the machines/software can interpret and navigate through their environment.
Here are some more machines, software, and robots that have been developed for the Radiology field:
- Computer-Diagnosis (CD) Software: CD software uses advanced algorithms to analyze medical images, to detect and diagnose abnormalities. It can detect tumors, fractures, and other anomalies.
- Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS): PACS is a comprehensive software system that stores, retrieves, and distributes medical images and reports. It views and interprets images and then distributes those images and findings/diagnosis.
- Automated Image Analysis Software: This software utilizes machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques to automatically analyze medical images, such as CT scans, MRIs, and X-rays. It can detect features or abnormalities and determine a diagnosis and create a treatment plan.
- Robotic Radiosurgery Systems: These robotic systems are used in radiosurgery procedures, such as stereotactic radiosurgery. They combine advanced imaging technology with robotic arms to precisely deliver high-dose radiation to targeted areas, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues.
- Robotic Surgery: While not exclusive to radiology, robotic surgery systems, such as the da Vinci Surgical System, are used in radiology procedures. They replace surgeons and perform procedures with enhanced precision and dexterity, which is more precise/less invasive, compared to the limitation of humans, these systems are often using imaging guidance as well.
- Automated Teleradiology Systems: Teleradiology systems allow the transmission of medical images over a network,so the computeAI/machines can get access to the data these systems need, to interpret images. Automated teleradiology systems can automatically route and prioritize images, ensuring efficiency within these systems and reducing interpretation time for these systems,so they can diagnose, create a plan and execute that plan/surgery/implement precision radiation treatments, in a timely fashion.
- Automated Dose Monitoring Systems: These systems monitor and track the radiation doses received by patients during radiology procedures, which can aid the AI/machines/bots, in the process of optimized imaging protocols and minimize radiation exposure and make sure the automated plan doesn't need optimizing, with machine learning.
- Automated Workflow Management Systems: These systems automate tasks such as scheduling, image acquisition, report generation, and result distribution, for AI analytics. They can enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and improve overall workflow coordination, compared to humans.
- Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) Systems: ABUS systems use automated scanning technology to acquire ultrasound images of the breast. These machines are essential for early detection of breast cancer, particularly in women with dense breast tissue and also so this information can be analysed by the AI,so a plan can be created and executed as fast as possible, for a greater success rate, from any stage.
- Virtual Colonoscopy Systems: These systems utilize computed tomography (CT) imaging and specialized software to generate a virtual 3D model of the colon. This system can detect polyps and tumors, without using more invasive methods/by providing an alternative to traditional colonoscopy.
It's worth noting that technological advancements continue to occur rapidly in the field of radiology, and new automated equipment, machines, software, and robots are being developed and refined regularly to improve patient care and outcomes,so obviously the need for human Radiologist are going down at a fast rate, also as you can see even now,Radiology can be automated/humans aren't needed, but in the future, all of this will be even more optimized/even better than it already is.
When it comes to dentistry, a lot of automated equipment, machines, software, and robots have been developed to handle dental procedures and patient care as well. Here are some examples:
- CD/CM Systems: Computer Design and Computer Manufacturing (CD/CM) systems are used in dentistry to create digital impressions, design dental restorations (such as crowns, bridges, and veneers), and fabricate them using computer-controlled milling or 3D printing.
- Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) Machines: CBCT machines provide three-dimensional imaging of the oral and maxillofacial region, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment planning of dental conditions. The process is automated, allowing for efficient and accurate imaging.
- Dental Lasers: Dental lasers are used for various procedures, including cavity preparation, gum disease treatment, and soft tissue surgeries. They offer precise and minimally invasive treatment options, with automated settings for optimal outcomes.
- Intraoral Scanners: These devices use optical technology to capture digital impressions of the patient's teeth and oral tissues. They eliminate the need for traditional impression materials, improving patient comfort and enabling more accurate digital restorations.
- Automated Endodontic Systems: Endodontic systems automate root canal treatment. They include features like electronic apex locators, rotary instruments, and obturation devices that enhance precision and efficiency during root canal procedures.
- Robotic Dental Implant Placement: Robotic systems have been developed to perform dental implant placement. They utilize imaging data and robotic arms to precisely position dental implants, improving accuracy and reducing procedure time.
- Digital Radiography Systems: Digital radiography has replaced traditional X-ray film in many dental practices. These systems capture digital images of the teeth and supporting structures, offering immediate results, lower radiation exposure, and automated image enhancement features.
- Dental Practice Management Software: Practice management software streamlines/eliminates the need for administrative personal, in dental offices. They automate appointment scheduling, patient records management, billing, and insurance claim processing, improving efficiency and organization.
- Automated Shade-Matching Devices: These devices use advanced technology, such as spectrophotometry or computer vision, to analyze the color of natural teeth and assist in shade selection for dental restorations. They provide objective and accurate color matching results.
- Automated Tooth Preparation Systems: These systems use robotic technology and artificial intelligence algorithms, for tooth preparation, for various dental restorations. They ensure precise and standardized tooth preparations, reducing the margin for error.
These automated equipment, machines, software, and robots improve dental care by enhancing efficiency, accuracy, patient comfort, and treatment outcomes in various dental procedures.
This is happening more and more NOW too, Brick and Mortar is some what going away/ more stores will either close and open up a distribution center or become a distribution center, door dash will handle that, AND AT SOME POINT, Door Dash will be FULLY AUTONOMOUS as well/the vehicles will be self driving and robots will load and unload the vehicles, Door Dash MAY NOT be the ending company/the only company doing this, BUT a company/companies will be doing this.
Probably SOON employees that unload trucks, stock shelves, truck drivers, should go next, because of self driving vehicles and arms, connected to vehicles, which will drop the package out, once the vehicles in position or an autonomous drone or some other type of robot, will make the delivery.
Also think about how much a human can lift, if lucky, you MIGHT get one that can lift 250 pounds, a robot could lift 1000pounds, robots don't need breaks, as often/they can charge up, while another one replaces them, they don't get paid/need money, they don't get sick, they don't have feelings or rights/its a machine, so basically its easier to deal with, also at some point they will be fixing them selves; Or another bot/robot,will fix/maintain/repair and so on,other robots/EVENTUALLY they will be able to fix them selfs or another bot will aid in repairing them/other robots.
Electricians MIGHT be okay, well, MAYBE for a little while, I mean think about it, how hard is it, to see colors/distinguish green/ground,White/Neutral,Red and black/hot/a camera paired with AI or even just IFTTT and a camera, could handle that, also electricians ALREADY consult machines/voltage meters, to diagnose problems/figure things out/ALL of that could be on a machine/bot and be handled MUCH quickemore efficiently/effectively, with a bot.
Auto mechanics MAY be the next to go, especially if bots, could get in tight places easiesync with the whole cahave a diagnostic reader on board, lift an entire engine/the whole car, on its own/vehicles are already assembled by robots/vehicle manufacturing plants use robots for, painting, welding, assembly, and material handling,ALREADY/An average car has about 30,000 parts. Once those parts are manufactured and brought to the final production line, it takes companie's robots about 18 to 35 hours to produce one mass-market vehicle, from welding to full engine assembly to painting, another example of all of this is Tesla/ to meet Tesla's uncompromising production goals, Musk settled on an equally uncompromising production strategy, full automation, no ifs, ands or buts. The goal was to remove every single human operator and only stop when the facility looked like an alien spaceship, according to musk/these are musks words.
This is a semi comprehensive list of obsolete jobs/fields right now,that are obsolete,eventually everyone will be obsolete though,at least in the sense that a robot can do your job better than you can,from a practical stand point;
Machines/robots/Automation/AI could easily ruine/destroy the economy/push society/people/humans to a moneyless society/to socialism or force people to revert back,or become more self reliant/people would need to raise their own farm animals, grow their own plants/make their own clothes/things/trade may be needed more as well, the honest truth is,all of these companies are putting them selfs out of business as well/they probably think that,if they don't release Chat GPT/a GPT/AI competitor, they will fall behind/become obsolete as a company, but at the same time, NO ONE will have any money to buy services/products,so no one can pay for a subscription and ad revenue won't work, because no one will have money to buy products,so theres no point in advertising, also rich people's money/generational wealth only lasts so long,if its not replenished, also honestly every employee/human hired,is a potential profit/those employees will purchase your products,if not yours, someone elses employee will purchase your products,IF your products are in demand,if there not in demand, you have a bigger problem, than people not having money to buy your products,Machines/AI/Robots don't need your products and these machines also have to be purchased by companie owners/it might sound appealing right now,to spend one minimum wagers yearly earnings on a machine, that can replace all of your hired employees, but EVENTUALLY if everyone's replaced and rich people's/generational wealth runs out,you will no longer be able to sell your products, because no one has money to buy them, obviously eventually it will be all jobs,at least until rich people/business owners realize this and decide humans are the better investment, but heres the list for right now, of jobs that will be going away/jobs that are obsolete.

2023.06.08 03:37 lowkeyterrible Reddit's upcoming API changes, impacting 3rd party tools.
Good day, assorted fruit cakes.
If you are terminally grass-deficient like us, you may have noticed the rumblings of a protest going on on Reddit. Many subreddits are planning to go private for a couple of days to protest Reddit’s API changes, which introduces a pricing structure that is way out of line with market value in an effort to shut down 3rd party apps.
How does this affect me_irlgbt?
We use several 3rd party tools to moderate, including toolbox,
safestbot,
contextmodbot, RES, and various 3rd party UI apps that do Reddit’s job better than Reddit does.
Without these tools, we as mods would have to spend god knows how long crafting custom regex filters, which also means doing a decent amount of analysis to make them effective. We’d also have to crank crowd control tools to maximum, and spend even more time than we already do going through the resulting mod queue. We’re already kind of stretched to the limit as it is. Without these tools, or a functional alternative from Reddit themselves, we cannot continue to have the same community we have now.
The few tools Reddit
has promised are primarily just adding basic desktop functionality to their existing mobile app. These tools do
not make up for the third party tools we would be losing as a direct result of Reddit’s API changes.
Along with this is the fact that Reddit’s native mobile app, and new.reddit as a whole, are wildly inaccessible to screen readers. The community at
/Blind has been speaking up about this, as they will be effectively shut out of the site if these API changes go through.
/me_irlgbt partners with
/TranscribersOfReddit, and you may have seen some of their volunteer transcribers in the comments. This group is one of many who are attempting to bridge the gap between Reddit’s inadequate infrastructure and the needs of the user base. These API changes will negatively impact these groups, and we will see these effects ripple over to our community as well.
Reddit moderators provide Reddit with a LOT of unpaid labour, the value of which is not currently known. At the time of writing this, there are 1600 subreddits with over 7500 mods involved in this protest. If Reddit paid us, this small selection of mods would cost them over $100,000 an
hour. That does not even scratch the surface of the amount of mods on this site. UPDATE: i wrote this yesterday and there's now almost 3000 subreddits participating
So what are we doing?
Our mod team is discussing our next steps, and we are involved with the discussions in the mod coord servers. While we do support the protest, it cannot escape our notice that it is currently pride month.
Our subreddit is already not one that admins care about a whole lot. We, and many other LGBTQ+ focused subreddits were excluded from Reddit Recap, which seems to indicate Reddit quietly pushing queer subreddits to the side for the sake of advertiser friendliness. As Reddit is trying desperately to go public, we're probably gonna see more of this shit. Anything me_irlgbt does is not important to Reddit, but it is important to us, the bitches who hang out here.
We’re also currently dealing with back-to-back brigades, increased traffic from both bigots and legitimate users, and the loss of some of our vital tools due to the protest. Basically, we’re
straight gay up not having a good time right now. But, we don’t want to shut down our space in
our month. Ultimately, we are still deciding what we want to do, and we will update you all when we’ve reached a decision. In the meantime, we wanted to post this to clarify our stance.
i aint reading all that but i’m happy for you or sorry that happened
We unequivocally support the developer community who are being faced with charges that are out of line with market values in order to bully them out of business by a large corporation. We especially stand with communities who rely on third party tools for issues of accessibility, particularly those over at
/Blind, who are doing an excellent job at speaking up about how they are being effectively pushed out of the site by Reddit’s lack of attention to accessibility. We also stand with other communities like ours who are currently facing the uncertainty of where we stand on Reddit if we lose all these tools that are necessary to manage the vibrant and engaging communities that make up this site.
no rly. tldr.
we support the protests and are talking about it behind the scenes. updates to come x
