Our guest list is full for the night and one of the guests we have joining us is John Schneid from Dynamic Sales Marketing.
The industry insider has been involved in mobile electronics from a young age. His father was a manufacturers representative from 1975 and was a Kicker rep from 1987. John started installing car audio and alarms when he was a highschooler. After that he worked at a stereo store doing installs and eventually formed his company in 2001. Much has changed since John started in high school, many of his first installations were in cars that didn’t have stereo systems in them. John has watched the evolution from cassette tapes, to CDs, to satellite, to streaming and has helped him be the eyes and ears of his customers and manufacturers.
John represents some of the best audio brands in the country, including Kicker, Dynamat, and the Epsilon Electronics brands, Power Acoustik and SoundStream among others. He is the bridge between your local dealer and the manufacturers. John has been able to consult with his industry partners to suggest ideas on what works and some of the real-world challenges installers can face.
The diversity of music genres today means manufacturers and dealers need to have a wide range of products available to their consumers. Whether they are looking for more highs or as much bass as possible, he can recognize those trends early and provide his customers and manufacturers with the insight to improve everyone’s business. John has a ton of fun in the industry and being able to sell the products he loves.
We are looking forward to asking him about all this and more on the show. So, tune in Thursday at 7:30pm ET to any of the Big Jeff Audio social media channels to watch, ask your questions and maybe be one of our lucky winners.

2023.06.01 13:58 a2goblue Test drove brand new car - a/c didn't work. Lemon??

Test drove a unicorn yesterday - an available 2023 Honda CRV Hybrid Sport. The sales guys said it had just landed on the lot a few days prior. When we took it out for a test drive, the a/c did not work. At all. The sales guy went for the drive with us and tried everything to get it going. He said maybe the service guys simply didn't install "the fuse" when the car arrived. I have no idea if that (plugging stuff in upon arrival) is a thing. He had us drive it right into service when we returned. Needless to say he was miffed because he knows he's not going to sell us a car that already has an issue. We noted the car had 70 miles on it, so apparently it has been taken out for a few test drives. Do we need to be concerned if this car already needed a repair? Should we move forward?

2023.06.01 13:47 FaendalsLetter I drive 500+ miles a week for work and am looking for something sportier and hopefully better on gas than my 2005 Honda Pilot

I have been scoping out Subaru WRX's and Civic Type R Hatchbacks but they might be a little out of my budget, although I don't have a hard cutoff on the amount I will consider. I like the idea of a hatchback because I carry around a fair amount of product with me everyday. My priorities are fun to drive, not a money pit, enough space for work stuff, MPG, comfortability (In that order).
What other cars should I be looking at?

2023.06.01 13:34 hillsofzomia I'm a new owner of an old honda rebel 125cc (1997). Help me get it ready for registration?

I have 2 youtube videos, showing off the bike to Maybe it's a good idea to share them here and see what reddit says?
Maybe more info is better than a bit? Maybe not? Anyways, let me know what you think. I'm an absolute noob with motorbikes or any other mechanical things. I do have the maintenance handbook, and i still didn't dare taking out the current carb to exchange it with the original one that's sitting in my garage at the moment.
Beware: the second video clears up some questions from the first. It was done like a week later.

2023.06.01 13:34 natwwal Recommendations for a cheap but reliable first motorcycle?

I've just completed my MSS course and gotten my motorcycle driver's license. I want to buy a bike and start riding. But I want to start with something cheap (live in NYC with rampant theft), and I want something I don't have to tinker with too much (no garage space). I don't care too much about looks or speed. For me, the most important thing is that I get lots of easy road time as I learn to ride safely.
I'm thinking an older Japanese bike, e.g.
Any thoughts on this plan? Any suggested brands, etc? Is it reasonable to hunt for a bike in the NYC area for ~$2000? Appreciate any pointers.

BRICS: Expansion Ambitions and Challenges June 1, 2023
The #BRICS alliance, comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, is intensifying efforts to emerge as a significant political and economic powerhouse. Originating as an acronym in 2001 to represent rapidly developing nations and formalized in 2009, BRICS has been unable to fully exploit its collective strength. Given the ongoing global rivalry between Beijing and Washington, coupled with international sanctions on Moscow, the bloc is now contemplating strategies to counterbalance the dominance of the US and the European Union. In a move demonstrating their collaboration, the BRICS nations have collectively pooled $100 billion as a reserve for emergencies and have established their own bank, authorizing over $30 billion in loans for various infrastructure projects since 2015. Today's meeting of the bloc's foreign ministers in Cape Town is set to discuss potential membership expansion and the establishment of a common currency, with a summit planned for late August in Johannesburg. Existing members of BRICS, representing over 42% of the world's population and contributing 23% to global GDP, have attracted the interest of nearly 19 countries looking to join, including Saudi Arabia. However, these ambitions come with inherent risks. Potential resistance from the US and its allies is anticipated, and the diverse nature of current members, with their varying governance systems and ideologies, could add complexity. While the interest from numerous nations illustrates the shifting global landscape, any expansion could also increase the difficulty of maintaining BRICS' cohesion on the international stage. #MarketUpdate

2023.06.01 13:18 Bikerfry Lightly Used Luxury Sport ~$30k??

Hi Guys,
Time to replace my 2013/215k Pilot. Wife has a family car so I'm getting something enjoyable for commuting and playing dad-taxi.
I'll keep it for 10 years/200k so reliability and gas mileage are important. I do all my own maintenance and minor repairs so small stuff isn't a big deal, so I'm looking for lowest risk of major issues. The Honda has me spoiled - it's only had a few small issues. It's never been in a shop aside from a timing belt change.
Top of the list
Tempting, but probably not
Of the list I've had a Q50 and a 330i for rentals. I loved the 330. The Q50 was fast AF compared to what I'm used to, but felt like any old Japanese car inside. I haven't driven the others.
Any first hand experience with these? Any cars I'm overlooking? Maybe an Acura TLX? An Accord or turbo Legacy would probably be great, but just seem so vanilla...

2023.06.01 13:18 NerdWithAMotorcycle Cost and sizes of RDRAM in 2000

Hello everybody. I am planning to build what would've been perceived to be the ultimate Rig in 2000*. I am aiming for period accuracy down to the year
I got most components. A P4 1.5, a 423 socket motherboard with RDRAM slots, and a GF2 Ti(2001, I know, but if you got a spare, working GF2 Ultra that you could send me, I'd gladly accept it).
What I am having trouble with, is the RAM. I can't find any info on the available sizes of RDRAM in 2000. There are kits that go up to 1gb, but I don't know if they were available at the time. Naturally I am aiming to go with the maximum available amount that one could buy at the time, and the QDI platinix 4 motherboard I have, supports up to 2Gb.

I say "perceived" because neither the P4 nor RDRAM were all that great, but they were quite hyped and expensive.

2023.06.01 13:09 d00bsken First time car buyer - looking for used SUV recommendations under 15k

Hey guys
Looking at buying a used SUV as my first car. Budget is 10-15k, looking for a reliable automatic, ideally 4WD SUV for both suburban driving and regular camping/long haul driving purposes.
Through a bit of perusing of the used car market as well as some research i've found a few makes/models that are potentially suitable but wanted to get some more advice, so any insight on the following would be appreciated plus any additional ones I may have overlooked.
Most of the used cars in my price range have odometers sitting in the 120-180k range so if these candidates are/aren't dependable with that many K's on them that would also be good to know
- Toyota RAV4 or Kluger
- Subaru Forester or Outback
- Nissan X-Trail (however I heard the CVT on the automatic models are prone to shitting the bed)
- Honda CR-V
- Kia Sportage
- Hyundai i35
- Mitsubishi Outlander

2023.06.01 13:07 rusticgorilla Florida jail officials refuse heart transplant recipient his medication, causing his death; DOJ says Louisiana officers violated law in death of autistic teen

A 54-year-old Black man died after Florida jail officials refused to give him medication that kept his body from rejecting his heart transplant.
Dexter Barry was arrested for misdemeanor assault in November 2022 after allegedly threatening to beat up a neighbor during an argument over wifi access. No actual physical fight occurred. According to body camera footage reviewed by The Tributary, Barry advised an officer at least seven times that he needed his medication to survive. He was booked into Duval County jail, run by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office.
The next day, Barry reiterated to a judge that he desperately needed his medication:
“I am on medication,” Barry told the judge. “I just had a heart transplant, and I haven’t taken my medicine all day since I have been locked up, and I take rejection medicines for my heart so my heart won’t reject it, and I’m almost two years out.”
Barry also told jail officials while in police custody; they made note of it, but never gave him the drugs.
The medical records, initially obtained by Jacksonville civil rights attorney Andrew Bonderud, show that Barry also told the jail’s healthcare providers about his medications. Barry only received his blood pressure medicine and a drug for cholesterol and his prostate, according to the medicine log.
Bonderud said he believes the jail not giving Barry his anti-rejection medicine “was entirely driven by profit and a profit motive.” Bonderud, who is representing Barry’s family, explained, “Generic cholesterol medication probably isn’t that expensive. But the heart transplant medicine is very expensive.”
Barry died at home three days after being released, having missed at least five doses of the anti-rejection medication.
Dr. Maya Guglin, an Indiana cardiologist on the board at the American College of Cardiology, said organ transplant recipients have to take anti-rejection medications because their bodies view the new organ as an invasion that must be fought off.
“If you just drop those medications, everyone is eventually going to reject that organ,” she said.
Even if medication is restarted, it will be too late, Guglin said.

South Carolina

A South Carolina man is suing the York County Sheriff’s Office after four deputies shot him nine times during a mental health emergency.
Trevor Mullinax was in his pickup truck on May 7, 2021, with a shotgun. His mother, Tammy Beason, was beside the truck talking to him. A family member called 911 to request a wellness check, reporting that Mullinax was suicidal.
Body camera footage shows the moment that deputies arrived on the scene, opening fire within seconds of leaving their vehicles.
“Prior to arriving at the Plaintiffs’ location, Sheriff’s deputies failed to plan, choosing instead to ride in like cowboys from a John Wayne movie, defaulting to using deadly force, immediately, without attempting to deescalate the situation, in complete disregard for State law/regulation, Sheriff’s policies, and/or County ordinances,” the lawsuit states.
According to court documents, the deputies fired almost 50 rounds at Mullinax, striking him approximately nine times, including in the head. The plaintiffs’ attorneys allege this happened despite Beason being in the line of fire and Mullinax having both his arms raised.
York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson has defended the deputies’ actions, claiming that Mullinax picked up the shotgun in his truck and the officers feared for their lives. Three of the deputies who shot Mullinax are still on duty.
“I tell all of my deputies that their goal is to serve the citizens of York County and then to go home safely to their families. Mr. Mullinax chose to put these men in danger by pulling a shotgun. These deputies responded appropriately to the threat as they were trained to do. Had Mr. Mullinax made different choices that day, deputies would not have been required to use force,” said Sheriff Kevin Tolson. “Our ultimate goal is to ensure the safety of the public and our deputies. Regardless of the outcome of this lawsuit, we want to reassure our residents that we will continue to provide high quality and professional law enforcement service.”
Mullinax survived numerous gunshot wounds, including three to his head. After shooting him, the department charged Mullinax with allegedly pointing a gun at them.
Plaintiff Mullinax, who somehow miraculously survived the horrific shooting, has maintained his innocence of the criminal charges brought by Sheriff’s deputies. Plaintiff Mullinax denies pointing, brandishing, or presenting a firearm in any threating manner at Sheriff’s deputies, and Plaintiff Beason, who was present and standing directly beside the vehicle in plain view of Plaintiff Mullinax, maintains Plaintiff Mullinax did not point, brandish, or present a firearm in any threating manner at Sheriff’s deputies.

The U.S. Justice Department filed a court statement accusing Louisiana officers of violating the civil rights of an autistic boy when deputies pinned him to the ground until he died.
Eric Parsa (referred to as E.P. in court documents), a “severely autistic” 16-year-old, was at a Louisiana laser tag event with his parents on January 19, 2020. As the family was leaving the venue, Parsa “began to experience a sudden sensory outburst” in the parking lot.
E.P. began to slap himself in the head, a behavior which is a common physical trait for many persons on the Severe Autistic Spectrum Disorder and is a readily observable manifestation of the person’s disability and anxiety.
Along with other repetitive motions, this repetitive head slapping is sometimes referred to as type of “stimming” and can be an attempt by the person with autism to calm themselves when confronted with frustration, anxiety and/or inability to communicate. It can also be used by the individual as a self-calming or self-soothing technique to try to avert or mitigate the severity of an outburst or as self-injurious behavior. It is a visible sign that the person may be experiencing or is about to experience an outburst.
During this outburst, Parsa began physically struggling with his dad. The manager of the laser tag venue called the police to report there was “a man with his autistic child…in a confrontation” in the parking lot.
Parsa then slapped the first officer to arrive on scene; he was taken to the ground and handcuffed. Deputies kept Parsa in a prone position on the ground, shackled, using their own body weight as a restraint.
The physical restraint of E.P. in JPSO custody began with a 6’3”, very large, over 300-pound deputy taking E.P. to the ground, striking him and then sitting on E.P.’s back, holding him face down, for approximately seven minutes. Eventually there were a total of seven JPSO deputies involved, sitting on, handcuffing, shackling, holding down, or standing by E.P. as he was restrained and held face down on his stomach against the hard surface of the parking lot. The final application of excessive force against E.P. involved a deputy using his forearm to place a choke/neck hold around E.P.’s head, shoulder and neck, as he lay in a prone position, with a deputy on his back, and other deputies holding down his arms and legs, while he was handcuffed and in leg shackles.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies sat on Parsa for more than nine minutes, only releasing him after “his body had gone limp and he had urinated on himself.”
9 minutes and 6 seconds. This is how long this extremely dangerous, lifethreatening and forceful prone restraint, involving the use of the deputies’ body weight and holds, mechanical restraints, choke/neck hold, following a period of physical exertion, was applied to an unarmed, obese 16-year-old severely autistic child in the midst of a sensory outburst or meltdown.
During that 9 minutes and 6 seconds, there were several clear and distinct opportunities, when E.P. was secured, was calm, was not actively resisting, when the JPSO deputies failed to de-escalate, failed to appropriately reduce the use of force against E.P., and failed to intervene to prevent the use of excessive force by other deputies.
Once E.P. was handcuffed, they did not roll him onto his side. They did not sit him up or stand him up. They did not secure him in a vehicle. They did not continuously monitor him. Instead, they continued to hold him face down, on his belly, while applying unreasonable and excessive force, resulting in his death. It wasn’t until his body had gone limp and he had urinated on himself that the deputies rolled him into “recovery position.” By then it was too late
Parsa was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. His parents filed a lawsuit against the Sheriff’s office, arguing that the deputies violated Parsa’s First, Fourth, Ninth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights, as well as the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Last week, the DOJ filed a statement of interest agreeing with Parsa’s parents:
Here, the record is replete with facts showing that several Defendants knew about E.P.'s disability before or on arrival to the scene and that others learned of his disability during the encounter…Plaintiffs have also put forth evidence that the deputies, who knew they were responding to a call for assistance with a child experiencing a behavioral health crisis, used force inappropriately to respond to a child’s known disability-related behavior…
Critically, nothing in the briefing suggests that E.P. had a weapon, that officers ever reasonably suspected he had a weapon, or that there was a threat to human life… because abundant facts show that Defendants were on notice of E.P.’s disability, a reasonable jury could conclude that Defendants should have reasonably modified their procedures in restraining E.P.

An 11-year-old Mississippi boy was shot in the chest by a police officer after he called 911 for help for a domestic disturbance.
The family of a Georgia woman who died after she fell out of a moving police car is suing the department.
Three former Mississippi police officers were indicted last week for repeatedly using stun guns on a 41-year-old man, causing his death.
An independent autopsy released by family last week ruled that a schizophrenic man “eaten alive” by bed bugs in an Atlanta jail cell was homicide by neglect.
The FBI is investigating the fatal shooting of a tribal member in Arizona by U.S. Border Patrol after the man called agents for assistance.

Judge Melville gives the Jury the rules of Jury Deliberations
Michael Jackson sat quietly in court as the 12 jurors were given their instructions ahead of closing arguments from both sides.
"You've heard all of the evidence and you will hear the arguments of attorneys," Judge Rodney Melville told the jury. He told them to make their decision without "pity for or prejudice toward" the defendant.
The eight women & four men who will decide his fate will hear closing arguments today and could begin their deliberations as early as Friday (it is currently Wednesday). Jurors are expected to hammer out their decision behind closed doors for about six hours a day until they reach their verdict or announce a deadlock.
The charges against Jackson consist of four counts of molestation, four counts of giving the boy alcohol in order to abuse him, one count of conspiracy and one of attempted molestation.
Jurors were told they could consider the four alcohol counts as lesser charges of "furnishing alcohol to a minor." This would be considered a misdemeanor and means that the jury would not have to relate the alcohol to any intended molestation.
Judge Melville told jurors not to consider the four videos played in the trial for the truth of any remarks made in them, except for certain statements that prosecutors claim are admissions from Jackson. These statements will be outlined in a document to be provided by prosecutors.
The Judge also instructed the jury on how to consider the past allegations against Jackson. He said that if they determine he does have such a history, "you may but are not required to infer that the defendant had a predisposition" to commit the crimes alleged in this case.
But he added “that is not sufficient in itself to prove he committed the crimes charged
He also told them not to infer anything from the fact Jackson himself had decided not to testify.
Thomas Mesereau will deliver closing arguments for the defense while Deputy District Attorney Ron Zonen is expected to deliver the prosecution’s closing statements.

Longtime recording engineer, Michael Prince, who was working with Jackson at the time “Hold My Hand” leaked, recalls:
“He was truly upset when the song he did with Akon leaked. He would just get this sad look on his face like, how could this happen? Because 20 years ago this would not have happened. And somehow everybody in the world has a copy of it. And that really upset him because he liked that song a lot.”
Akon gave a detailed account of the events surrounding the leak during an appearance on Tavis Smiley’s PBS television show in January 2009:
“Me and Mike did this incredible record called Hold My Hand and the record is amazing. Phenomenal. And the concept was that this would be Mike’s first release off of his new album, and then I would stripe it on my album – on my following release. That way we could have the outlets open for everyone to be able to receive the record. You know, Mike came up with this brilliant marketing launch for the record. You know, he’s the best at launching a record.”
Akon continues:
“He’d have the whole world paying attention in two minutes… And before we could get to that point, the record got leaked over the internet. And we got over 15 million downloads on the song for free. So we couldn’t [release it]. You can’t at that point. Everybody already has the record. But in a way, you gotta look at it like… that’s just a gift to the fans.”

2023.06.01 12:56 chirallogic What should I drive?

Hey all!
I moved back to India in 2018, and after little research, bought an Avenger 220 Street for my daily commute.
The Avenger has been a bit of a mixed bag. I love that it's comfortable, can haul ass when required, and is very economical. But the awkward shape and weak brakes never lent me confidence as a driver, and driving it has become a bit of a chore.
I grew up driving a CD100 and later, a Honda Dio. Both were light and responsive. It was never about going fast, but driving them brought a smile on my face that the sluggish Avenger just can't replicate.
So team! What should I sell the Avenger for, I want to enjoy driving again? Some pointers for info you might want:
I would love some off-the-wall suggestions.
Edit: I forgot to add. I have a bad back, so I would prefer a commuter-style posture.

2023.06.01 12:51 NGSpy 7 Day Ban - /u/Griffonomics

7 Day Ban - Griffonomics
Good evening AustraliaSim,
Due to events that proceeded the banning of nivea_chapstick, we have handed down a 7 day ban to Griffonomics for Vexatious Complaints, impersonating another other Members and giving false information in an investigation. This is an extremely generous ban because I am only handing down a 7 day ban for the first incidence of Vexatious Complaints.
The Code of Conduct on these matters state:
Vexatious Complaints
Impersonation of other Members
False evidence
Also in the Discord Community Guidelines, it states:
Do not share false or misleading information (otherwise known as misinformation). Content that is false, misleading, and can lead to significant risk of physical or societal harm may not be shared on Discord. We may remove content if we reasonably believe its spread could result in damage to physical infrastructure, injury of others, obstruction of participation in civic processes, or the endangerment of public health.
Evidence of this is attached here (with commentary on request of community managers and Griffonomics, quite rightly). All this evidence is in chronological order.
Context: This happened at the time where nivea_chapstick was banned permanently, and I requested that all leaders and contacts do indeed get rid of him from the server.
Here, we see Griffonomics state that Deepfriedhookers was never in his server, and calling 'you all' fools. 'You all' isn't clarified here, but is clarified later on by Griffonomics.
Here, it is clear that Griffonomics clearly meant to refer to the moderators as 'fools', calling moderators 'highly regarded', an AustraliaSim euphemism for 'highly r*tarted'. Trask attempts to clarify why the moderation team's decision is correct, and Griffonomics implies that the moderators fell for a rouse.
Which is yet again clarified here.
Griffonomics clearly finds this amusing, and calls myself and Trask, moderators of the community 'idiots'. This shows a clear motive by Griffonomics for his upcoming actions to humiliate and make fun of the moderators, highlighting the vexatious nature of his complaints, as well as the nature of his misleading evidence, and the claim of another member.
Griffonomics has reiterated that the moderators have fallen for a 'great bamboozle' which isn't clarified yet, but within context meant that we believed that the discord user 'chin chin' (attached to the nivea_chapstick account) was indeed deepfriedhookers alternate account. This would have compromised the permanent ban that we imposed on nivea_chapstick.
Griffonomics then engages in impersonation of a member, which includes 'claiming to be another member in the chat' according to the Code of Conduct. This would result in a 'Caution' for a first offence in the Code of Conduct.
Griffonomics clearly doubles down on his impersonation of a member claim, claiming that it started as an alternative account which he then gave to a friend. As having an undeclared alternative account is against the rules of AustraliaSim, the Moderation Team are obliged to investigate and gather possible evidence.
He Direct Messaged me during this period on the pretense that he was actually chin chin, and thus may be permanently banned as a member for alting, and doxing members on ModelUSGov. This would've been evidence used to determine if Griffo was indeed an alternative account of deepfriedhookers. He later on states that it is indeed not him who is nivea_chapstick, therefore satisfying the criteria of giving 'false or misleading evidence....during a Code of Conduct hearing'.
Part 2 of the above DMs.
After this direct message exchange with Griffonomics, he proceeds to be amused and glee that he has 'bamboozled' the moderators, showing that the complaint he made was not at all serious but vexatious. This means that he has made a vexatious complaint according to the Code of Conduct, and thus faces a 7 day ban for a first instance, the final sentence settled on by myself.
Another clear indicator he knew it was a vexatious complaint.
Rather than acknowledging guilt for 'wast[ing] moderator time with false bullshit' as Gredsen rightly points out, Griffonomics appears to blame the moderators for 'choosing to time waste'. This is despite the context of the situation being that Griffonomics claimed to be a member who previously doxxed and harassed members in MUSGOV, and thus any evidence in regards to this situation would be taken seriously by moderators in order to protect the AustraliaSim community.
The inappropriate vexatious nature of this impersonation, false evidence giving and complaints by Griffonomics is self-reported to be a 'meme' by him.
This evidence therefore concludes successfully that Griffonomics committed the three breaches described at the beginning of the post, and thus the 7 Day ban is appropriate.
Signed, NGSpy Head Moderator
