2023.06.01 15:22 FangGrip [Offline][Woodbridge VA][LGBTQ+ Friendly][21+][6 PM EST Every Other Saturday][5e] GM looking for 1 Player for existing 5E Midgard setting
Introduction
I am an experienced game master looking for one additional adult player (21+) to join an existing D&D 5e Midgard campaign in the Woodbridge / Dale City area. We will be meeting from 6 PM to 11ish every other Saturday (Next Session is June 17th). The game is a local tabletop game hosted at my home.
I will be making my final decisions by the 9th of June.
It is very likely with all of the stupidity Hasbro has been doing of late that our campaign will transition to the Tales of the Valiant 5e variant being created by Kobold Press once it becomes available. This will be discussed as the campaign continues.
As a way to keep things interesting, I like to have a short adventure that is not related to the campaign when the characters hit a level milestone. We generally have a two or three session experience with a different system each time. This includes a homebrew system we are creating and playtesting.
Rules & Expectations
I hope to have a laid back and inclusive game where all levels of gaming experience, genders, cultures, races, and sexuality are welcome. All that I ask is that you are polite to each other, engaged in the campaign, and try to be proactive. If you are not LGBTQ+ friendly, please do not apply.
- We are a non-smoking household with a young child, so there is no smoking in or around our home. This includes vaping and all other tobacco products. *
- We are a drug free home so please no illegal substances nor marijuana. *
- Alcohol is allowed in small quantities for those of legal age. Please do not become intoxicated and absolutely no driving under the influence. I am the final judge of intoxication. *
- We have no pets to be concerned with if you are allergic. *
- There is on-street parking, but please be considerate to the others on our cul-de-sac *
- Once our child has gone to bed profanity is allowed. Please be considerate beforehand. *
- Outside game chatter is welcome in a balanced mix, but please don't let it get too distracting. We are here to have fun, socialize, and create a collaborative story. That works best when everyone participates.
Requirements
We will be using D&D Beyond for character creation and management. You will not need to purchase any of the source material as I have an account that will share them with you, once you have joined the campaign. If we do transition to Tales of the Valiant, we will be changing this management to Demiplane as their 5E nexus becomes available. They will have the same sharing ability as D&D beyond , so don't worry.
- My games are always free. I don’t mind donations to help defray costs, but they are in no way expected. Just appreciated.
Setting & Campaign
The setting will be Midgard from Kobold Press, but the themes and goals will be player and character oriented. My play style leans towards plot and narrative driven gaming, with an entertaining amount of puzzles, exploration, and combat. I love getting player input and creativity to help shape and propel the campaign forward. My games have a solid narrative thread that binds them but I never have any qualms about improvising or allowing players the freedom to make the story their own.
The campaign so far deals with an evil book called the Umbral Codex which was split into three parts and hidden away. So far one villain has a third, and a former player character was corrupted when she found the second. Now the third is up for grabs and the party must fight two villains to keep the Codex safe until they can destroy it.
- I have the Kobold Press books in PDF to share with players once you join the campaign
- The characters are currently at 5th Level.
- We already have a Kariv Griffon Knight, a Half Elf Wizard, and a Trollkin Priest of Thor. That leaves a lot of other species / class options available.
- Good and neutral alignments are preferred and will work best with the story. Other alignments are allowable if the character retains a compelling reason to continue working with the party. Once that reason ends, expect the character to be retired from play.
- A well written character will not be at odds with the rest of the party
- Character materials from the official 5E line and Kobold Press’ Midgard line of books are allowable. Other third-party materials are not allowable.
- There will be a mix of premade adventures and homebrew adventures leaning on the side of homebrew
Optional Rules
- Magic items should have a greater mystique, so we are removing the ability to identify the properties of a magic item during a short rest, and require the identify spell, experimentation, research, or a combination to reveal what a magic item does. A short rest may give hints as to the nature of the item from a visual and visceral level of magical understanding.
- Flanking gives combatants a simple way to gain advantage on attack rolls against a common enemy. A creature can't flank an enemy that it can't see. A creature also can't flank while it is incapacitated. A Large or larger creature is flanking as long as at least one square or hex of its space qualifies for flanking.
- Reaching zero hit points will inflict a level of exhaustion.
- Story Based Advancement (DMG pg. 261)
- Feats, although this hardly seems like an optional rule.
Experience
I am experienced in quite a few games including D&D (Classic Boxed, 1st Edition, 2nd Edition, 5th Edition), Fate Core, Dresden Files, Alpha Chronicles, FFG Star Wars, World of Darkness (oWOD & nWOD), Aberrant, Palladium Megaverse, Cypher System, Cyberpunk 2020, Shadowrun, Hackmaster, Top Secret SI, and quite a few others.
Contact Info
Please feel free to contact me on discord ( FangGrip#7572 ) if you are interested in joining or if you have any questions. I would like to have a conversation with all prospective players. This conversation does not guarantee you a slot in the game but will help keep you in mind in case a player chooses to resign or ghost us. There is no impersonal form to fill out, but I will need some basic information.
- Name
- Your age (21+)
- How far away you are from Dale City Virginia
- Experience in gaming, D&D 5E, and the Midgard Setting
- Types of characters you like to play most
- Any character concept you may have
- Style of play you prefer
- Goals and hopes for a campaign
- Things you don’t like in a game
- Why do you think you would be a good match?
Thank you for reading this post. I know it's fairly long, but I want to save people time by giving you all the information I can think of to help you determine if we are right for you.

2023.06.01 15:17 Phallus_Maximus69E Hitman: Codename 47 - The beginning of an Era
Recommended. Hitman: Codename 47 is the game that started a whole franchise and presented one of games' most recognizable characters: Agent 47. This game has great ideas impaired by technical limitations, both from the technology of the time and the budget, but counters it by having fun gameplay and a flawless story.
It is amazing how intelligent games were back then, detailing storylines and interesting characters displayed with an easy-to-follow presentation. At the beginning of every mission you go to a briefing where you learn about your target and the details surrounding the hit you are going to perform. This is presented all in text and all you have to do is read it. One of the most interesting aspects of the game is the
video of the target filmed by an ICA agent - which gives us an idea of how organized the
Agency is.
After the briefing you have the mission map and the equipment list of what you want to bring with you in order to complete your mission. So read the briefing, study the map and pay attention to your surroundings -
patrolling paths, NPCs you can talk to, different entry points etc. The game almost always gives you several different courses of action, but it is much more linear than its sequels.
There is always one strategy that was clearly the one intended by the developers and level designers; if you are having a very hard time in a mission, or if you take much longer than 10 minutes, chances are you're on the wrong track. Missions take around 5-10 minutes to complete, provided you know what you have to do. You might be able to complete missions in a different way, but it will usually be a much, much harder way.
Hitman: Codename 47 is a stealth game and, therefore, discourages shootouts -
but they do happen as part of some missions. This one is a feature I like, even if the moving and shooting mechanics are clanky, as killing a few guards shows how heavily protected your targets are. You have to do that in the
Ochoa mission and the
Rotterdam missions; and I dread how this feature was abondened in later games. Agent 47 was cloned through the DNA of his French Foreign Legion fathers not to be just an assassin, but to be the perfect soldier;
so he knows how to handle himself in a firefight.
This game also has some great details, such as the greatest voice line ever uttered in a video game:
"I need to use the BATHroom". You have to chat with NPCs in order to gather intel, so pay attention. Some voice dialog are weird and somewhat funny, b
ut Lei Ling's best voice is in this version. You will mostly hear “He’s packing!” and “This guys is loaded!” at first, but dialogue such as Ort-Meyer's provide needed context.
The most enduring feature of the Hitman series is
the collective of creative kills and approaches, and many of those came from movies (as the game itself).
The hit on the Chief of Police took the idea of planting the pistol in the bathroom from the God Father.
Ochoa's character is taken from Al Pacino's
Tony Montana (Scarface) but the mission looks really based in Sniper (1993) - the targets in both game and movie are called Ochoa - and the soldiers really look like a
South American drug army. One of the most creative missions is "Traditions of the Trade" (
the best version), where you have to talk to NPCs and have
many different ways of killing Fritz - plus an emblematic hit on Frantz.
Ochoa is the most wronged of the fathers in the series: Colombia has a more military feel, already opening with 47 looking like a jungle warrior king in the loading screen and
then rappeling into the middle of the jungle by helicopter. Plus exotic natives, leaf physics and Ochoa's threats during the gunfight - that are hilarious. With all 5 fathers having served in Indochina, the jungle setting is a nice touch and should have been remade (albeit smaller and self-contained in one mission).
Cutscenes and loading screens are great: the cutscene of
Tzun protecting Lee Hong from Agent 47 and the killing of
Fritz Fuchs in the pool or the sauna.
Given this game was first conceived as a
Chinese mobster action game, it is no surprise the Hong Kong missions are so memorable. The presentation screen of
Lee Hong, the
Lei Ling character arc, saving
Agent Smith, and
getting the jade figurine.
While people make some constructive complaints, some of them are not - like not having a command for dropping a body, even though all you need to do is hit the right mouse button, something I got right the first time I played (
back in the day).
This game is not hard if you're well informed but it's punishing; its main flaw being the faulty AI, with an awereness problem and very thick skin. The guards' AI has only two modes - idle and combat - and sometimes they simply "know" 47 is bad news. Nowhere in this game is this more evident than in Ochoa's hit, with guards attacking you for no reason, and that's why so many people hate it.
Add to that the poor knife mechanic where you can easily slit someone's throat with it, but if he moves you go into a thrust mode. One or two strikes is something you can do before being shot, but needing 4-6 stabs to kill a target is simply too much.
Another complaint about the Colombian missions is the "bad design" of the enemy camp, where you need to run all over the other side of the fence to enter the camp; but this is misplaced, as the design both serves to show you the size of the camp with its many guard patrols, showing how well-guarded the drug lord is,
and also because you sneaked from behind said camp. The main strengths of this game are the story and the atmosphere. The soundtrack made by Jesper Kyd is simply amazing and conveys a perfect immersion to the different settings - action, suspense, fear. My favorites are the Hong Kong and
Colombian settings, with their
exotic themes. Maps are quite big and populated. The henchmen in each mission are also expertly done and genuine: they range from
Chinese Triad members to Colombian drug soldiers, biker gangsters and masked gunrunners. The NPCs are also diverse, with
bartenders,
hotel staff and
sex workers. The presentation is near flawless with
unique signature kills and different approaches to make the perfect hit, giving Agent 47 a solid entry into the assassination business.

2023.06.01 15:14 throw-away22334455 Hey there, Hot Stuff…
I know you’ll never see this letter, and I suppose I should be grateful for that, but I still feel so stupid for writing it. Stupid because there’s no reason my feelings should be this strong and my heart should hurt this badly. We were only talking for a few short weeks but, man, I fell HARD and I fell FAST. But now it’s all over and I’m left here to pick up the pieces. I’m sure you’re happy with her, and that’s great. I want you to be happy. But I want to be happy too. So, in an attempt to help heal my broken heart, I just wanted to write down (almost) all the things I’ll never get to say:
-When you first messaged me after we matched for the 4th time in as many years, you said “the universe just wants us to be together.” I responded by saying “and who are we to tell the universe it’s wrong?” Well, we called the universe’s bluff and now I feel like I’m the one paying the price for it. You get to move on and fall in love and I get to sit at home, too afraid to go out anywhere in case I run into you. If I need to drive through your neighborhood to get somewhere, I’ll take a longer route just to avoid the possibility of seeing you.
-I still walk the dog on that nature trail and by the park where we had our first date. I feel safe there because you didn’t know it existed before I told you about it, and there’s a very slim chance you’ll ever go back. It’s the dog’s favorite route to walk along though, so I still take him every day after work. But it breaks my heart to be there because all I can think of is you, and our conversation, and the way my head rested perfectly on your chest when we hugged because you’re so tall, and the way your lips felt pressed against mine.
-the dog is on a diet and I hate that every time I feed him, the sound of kibble and chicken falling into his bowl is replaced with your laughter as you said “aww no look at him, he ain’t missing no meals!” He was wary of you, but oddly enough I think he misses you. When we pass by someone on our walks that looks even remotely like you, his tail will wag uncontrollably and he tries to jump on them. He still growls a bit, but he just seems sad when he realizes it’s not you. I do too.
-I hate doing laundry now because doing laundry means I need to open the closet door where the washer and dryer are. The same door you picked me up and pressed me up against, my legs wrapped around your waist, when you did everything you could to turn me into putty in your hands. I want to pull those doors off the hinges so I don’t have to look at them every day.
-You ruined chocolate chip cookies for me. They were my favorite midnight snack and now all I think about is baking late-night, post-sex cookies with you. I’ve been fortunate to live my entire life without any allergies, but now it feels like just one cookie will kill me. Even when I pass by the pre-made dough in the grocery store, I can feel my heart constrict and my throat close up.
-You ruined Star Wars for me. I thought it was so cute how you, a chemistry nerd, never saw the penultimate nerd series. I was excited for our plans to have a movie marathon. I was excited to show you to the galaxy. Now I stop the microwave before the timer hits 0:00 because it sounds like R2-D2 and it makes me lose my appetite.
-I bought new lingerie I was hoping to surprise you with. It arrived in the mail after we stopped talking. I can’t even force myself to try them on to make sure the sizes are correct. They’re just sitting in a drawer with the tags still on, collecting dust. I used to feel sexy and confident in my underwear. Now I feel like a sheepish little girl, too afraid to undress in the locker room before PE class.
-I told you I didn’t want kids, and that only one man in my entire life truly made me consider starting a family, but that he hurt me so badly I was completely sworn off. That was a lie. Maybe not at first, but it became a lie. When I found out you had a kid, after the shock and hurt subsided, after you spoke of how much you love your child, there was a second man I could see holding my child in his arms. You. A gorgeous little creature who would be the best parts of you and me put together. Now I fear that if I ever have children, I’ll resent them because they won’t be half of you.
-I hate that every time I see a car like yours, my heart skips a beat. I almost got into an accident the other day because I thought I passed you on my way into town. I’m afraid to drive now because all I do is look out for your car, wondering if you’re looking out for mine.
-I hate how deeply I care about you, and how I wish you nothing but the purest love and happiness. I hate that I can’t hate you. It would all be so much easier if I hated you. I wouldn’t be hurting so much. I could chalk this all up to the fact that you’re an asshole. A player. You used me and threw me away. But that’s not you. You’re kind and caring and gentle and, if I had only given us a proper chance, I could have known what it would feel like to be truly loved by you.
-I hate that I swallowed my pride and apologized, when I honestly didn’t have much to apologize for, only to be met with silence. My pride was all I had left, and now that’s gone too. And I especially I hate how pathetic and desperate this all sounds. After my last serious heartbreak, I put so much time and effort into myself, and I reminded myself that I am amazing and anyone is lucky to have me. Now I’m back to apologizing for using up oxygen.
-I hate that I believed you when you said you still wanted me, desired me, even though I could feel the distance between us growing larger. And I hate that now you’re so cold, so indifferent. I hate that you act like it was all just in my head. Even if it was, I wish you would just say that instead of leaving me with radio silence. It would be easier to understand that maybe I really am just obsessive or crazy, than to be left wondering how it all went wrong. But I know there’s nothing to wonder about. You said that if you didn’t want to talk to me, you wouldn’t. It appears you are a man of your word. I just wish I took you at your word when I still had the chance.
-You said I don’t know you or understand you, and I hate that you’re right. I hate that you don’t know or understand me either. We never gave each other the chance to. And I hate that we’ll probably never get that chance again.
-I want you to be happy, and I hope she does make you happy. But, like I said, I want to be happy too. I want to be with you. I want to hear your laugh again, see your perfect smile again, hear your heart beat as I lay on your chest again. I want to feel you in me again, holding me tightly. I want to sit on the swing with you, my legs across your lap as I listen to you tell me all your wildest stories. I want to feel your lips press against my forehead as you slip out of bed. I just want to feel like you care again. Even if it was all in my head.
I know we may never speak again, but I want you to know that I will always want you. And I hate that. But I don’t hate you. Not even a little bit.
Yours, always.

2023.06.01 15:14 jso__ Disparity between xBA and BABIP
I'm doing analysis of data and I decided to calculate xBA on balls in play (not including homers) to compare it to BABIP. However, it has a larger than expected disparity with real BABIP. For 2022, I got this value: 0.300796 which is almost exactly 0.01 higher than the real BABIP. The weird thing is the error is always (from 2015 to 2022, the Statcast era) the xBA being too large, never too small. In my opinion, that would rule out statistical noise. The closest year is 2015, at being just 0.003 too high.
Is there an explanation for xBA to always be higher than actual BABIP? Could it be the shift? However, you would expect that the algorithm to calculate xBA be retrained based on current year data to adjust for improvements in fielding hard batted balls, hard line drives, hard ground balls, etc.

2023.06.01 15:08 jcsomerville SSD Swap Worked But Shows Far Less Than It Should
So I got a new SSD and am upgrading from 256. I cloned the SSD using the Konsole command and made the swap. Once I did it booted up and my storage was the exact same.
It cloned it perfectly (everything is there) but does not show the correct storage space.
Does anyone know why this would be happening?
Is there a way to confirm the storage size on Windows? Do I need to reformat it? I just don't understand unless I was set a 256gb SSD with a 2tb label on it.

2023.06.01 15:07 Bulky_Community_1720 Would you take a loan to buy a Mustang ?
I'm in a dilemma and i've been in it for a while.
My dream car has always been the 05-09 S197 (I know from what people say it's slow but I just can't help but love the design), the problem is they are expensive (for what they are imo) here in Europe, France more specifically, a decent one is around 25k, probably because of some environnemental regulation bs.
Right now i'm driving a car given to me by my employer, but i'm planning to leave as soon as I find something better since the work environnement is a shithole. and knowing the companies in this city, there is a very low chance you'd be given a car for work, and most jobs do require you to have one.
So I'm left with a dilemma, should I go for a beat up car for like 4k but would probably require a high maintenance cost which would make it a bit hard to save up for a mustang, or just go for a loan and buy my dream car ? (I earn 45k/year here in France and I can save around 800 a month)
My idea of a beat up shitbox is a car that I still somewhat like, like an e46, or spend a lil higher for something "newer" like an e82, but it just feels weird buying a car that is ranked like 4th in my top 5 favorites, it just doesnt bring me excitement when the only car that does is a Stang
What would you do? specially my european fellows

2023.06.01 15:06 a1j9o94 Lessons I Learned from My EdTech Venture
In the months leading up to my job at a Private Equity fund, I was gripped with a sense of frustration and anxiety. I had to learn financial modelling, and it felt like all the resources I found were either ineffective or overwhelming. They boiled down to watching videos and downloading pre-made spreadsheets. That was when the idea for ModelMaster was born - an in-browser emulator for learning Excel, a kind of Codecademy for the financial world.
My dream was to sell ModelMaster to consulting firms and investment banks, helping them train their analysts more efficiently. It was a great idea, but after two years of blood, sweat, and tears, I had to shut it down. We had managed to drive over 3,200 visitors and 464 learners with an NPS score of 52 during our pilot launch. But that wasn't enough to convince investors of the potential ModelMaster had. Through this journey, I stumbled, made blunders, and learned lessons that I'd like to share, hoping they will be useful to other entrepreneurs.
Lesson 1: Building a Business, Not Just a Cool Product
I have a technical background. That means I often find myself obsessing over the bells and whistles of a product. But here's the thing: I focused so much on making ModelMaster interactive and engaging for learners that I lost sight of what decision-makers at professional services firms actually needed.
Talk to users, they said. And I did, I had about 50 conversations in the early months. But here's where I goofed up: I was talking to learners when I should have been talking to buyers. Sure, the feedback from learners helped us refine the user experience (we even removed a distracting home bar from the Excel lesson page), but it didn't get us any closer to revenue. The decision-makers, the ones holding the purse strings, couldn't see the value in ModelMaster. And I couldn't convince them otherwise.
Lesson 2: Importance of Data in Decision-Making
Trust your gut, but verify with data. That's a lesson I learned the hard way. A handful of user feedback and intuition wasn't enough to accurately gauge the potential of ModelMaster. I ended up using tools like Mixpanel, Customer.io, Full Story, and Segment to collect and analyze user data. One interesting insight was that users had about a 20-minute focus window and the completion rate for longer lessons was low. So, we broke down lessons into bite-sized modules - and voila, there was a significant increase in lessons completed and total time spent by learners.
Lesson 3: Importance of Qualified Vendors
I learned the hard way that choosing the right development team is crucial. I didn't vet my first team enough, and the result was a waste of four months and thousands of dollars. When I went hunting for a second team, I made a checklist: expertise, price, responsiveness, and communication. The difference was night and day. The second team took my drawings and descriptions and quickly built a working prototype. They were partners, not just vendors, and that made a world of difference.
Lesson 4: Emotional Runway and Burnout
When you're a founder, you're more invested in your startup than anyone else. The company felt like an extension of myself, and every setback felt like a personal failure. This was even more challenging because I was dealing with depression during much of this time. Going forward, I'll be more conscious of my emotional runway. I've realized the importance of therapy, of talking through problems and feelings. I've also learned that leaning on my
support network of friends and family is invaluable. And don't forget to destress - for me, it's board games and D&D.
Sharing My Story
I'm sharing my experiences and lessons in the hope that they can be valuable to other entrepreneurs. After ModelMaster, I spent a lot of time blaming others, but eventually, I arrived at a place where I could reflect on my experiences and learn from them. Much of what I share has been said before, but it's framed through my unique experience. If I can help one person avoid a mistake I made, that would be a win for me. If you have any questions about my journey, don't hesitate to reach out. I wish you the best of luck on your entrepreneurial journey!

2023.06.01 14:55 wisdom_and_frivolity Street Fighter Glossary, the words/phrases you need to know to join in community discussions!
Street Fighter Glossary
Shoutouts and sources: THE FIGHTING GAME GLOSSARY,
The New Challenger team Boxer
A common name for the Street Fighter character Balrog. We aren't just describing his profession for fun, though; his Japanese name is M. Bison, so we need a clear way to describe which character we're referring to. See also Dictator and Claw.
Claw
A common name for the Street Fighter character Vega. Because the Japanese call this character Balrog, we often use this more general name when discussing him so there's less confusion. It's a problem that exists due to a triple name swap between three characters in the Japanese and English versions of SF, the other two being Dictator and Boxer.
Counter
Often used as shorthand for counter hit, especially if you are reading an on-screen message during a fight.
It's also a move that looks to catch an incoming attack, deflect it away, and automatically launch a counter-attack. You'll sometimes hear it called a "catch counter". You might just get one hit that sends the opponent flying, but some counters will let you get a full combo if it works. Lots of games have counters, from Street Fighter to Killer Instinct to Tekken to virtually every sword character in Super Smash Bros. It's kind of like parrying, except you don't return to neutral or get to choose your next attack.
Counter can also be used in the general English sense, as a technique that specifically wins against another technique. For example, you can counter pick your character matchup. Or you might say "that move is a hard counter to my strategy" if it stops everything you're trying to do.
Critical Art
The Street Fighter V-specific term for a super.
Crush Counter
A unique counter hit state specific to Street Fighter V that leads to highly damaging combos. If you counter hit your opponent with certain heavy attacks (each character will have their own list of Crush Counter moves), they will violently spin around as a glass-shattering sound effect plays, and they'll get put in a ton of hit stun. Many characters will be able to dash forward and still continue the combo with something beefy.
You can think of them kind of like a "super" counter hit, but tied to specific moves. SFV also tags dragon punches as counter-hittable during their recovery, which means you can wind up with your crush counter move and earn a huge punish when you block one.
Delayed Wakeup
The ability to slightly extend how long you stay on the ground after you've been knocked down. This is different from soft knockdown vs. hard knockdown, where you either rise immediately or stay on the ground for a set amount of time. In games with delayed wakeup, you can choose to make your hard knockdown ever so slightly longer, in the hopes that your opponent won't be able to easily meaty you or otherwise run their planned set play. Games like Ultra Street Fighter IV and Mortal Kombat 11 implement delayed wakeup.
Demon Flip
One of Akuma's trademark special moves; he jumps up into the air while performing a front flip, and then can choose several different unique attacks on the way down, including a divekick, a low attack, and a throw.
Dictator
A common name for the Street Fighter character M. Bison. We have to call him this because, in Japan, they call him Vega, so this helps us be clear about which character we're talking about. We have this same problem with Boxer and Claw.
Drive Impact
The character will garner armor that can absorb an incoming hit. Players can perform this technique by pressing R1+R2 (or just L1 if you're using simplified controls) and it costs one bar of your Drive Gauge.
Source Drive Parry
Players can simply hold down medium kick and medium punch to activate Drive Parry, which continually depletes the Drive Gauge until the buttons are released. If an incoming attack is successfully parried, the character will repel the foe's attack and some of their Drive Gauge will be replenished. Players can aim to perform a "Perfect" parry by activating this at the precise moment an incoming attack lands, which will net them some kind of additional bonus.
Source Drive Rush
Characters cancel out of animations early with a forward dash, presumably enabling them to perform otherwise impossible combos. This can also be performed from a Drive Parry, in which case its cost is reduced from three Drive Gauge bars to only one. This is done simply by double tapping forward while the animation for either a cancelable normal attack or Drive Parry is going on.
Source Drive Reversal
Similar to Alpha Counters/V-Reversals seen in Street Fighter Alpha and Street Fighter 5, respectively. Pressing forward and R1+R2 while blocking an attack will activate Drive Reversal, which causes your character to perform a counter attack that does little damage but that can give you some breathing room to get off of the defensive. Using this maneuver costs two bars from your gauge.
Source Overdrive
Which is essentially the Street Fighter 6 way of describing an EX move. Every character has a few special attacks unique to them, and players can give said specials additional enhancements (such as more damage, invincibility, further reach, faster speed) by performing the "Overdrive" version. This is performed by pressing two of the same button instead of just one when doing a special attack. For instance, if Ryu throws his trademark Hadoken special (quarter circle forward + a punch) he might enhance it by pressing two punches. Overdrive costs two bars from your Drive Gauge.
Source EX Move
A more powerful version of a special move, enhanced by spending some super meter. These moves have better properties than the base version of the special move, which may include more invincibility, more damage, or faster startup. The character often glows a different color, like yellow, while performing an EX move, just to make it extra clear what's happening.
Flash Kick
An invincible charge move made famous from Guile in Street Fighter. Hold down, or down-back, for about a second and then hit up plus a kick button to fly into the air foot first. It's a very common reversal and anti-air, but because it's a charge move, it needs more planning to use than a dragon punch.
Frame Trap
Two attacks back-to-back that leave a very small gap between them. The gap will be shorter than the defender's fastest attack, which means if they try to attack with a normal, they will get counter hit. Finding effective frame traps requires some basic understanding of frame data (or finding a good Youtube tutorial that has done the work for you!); you'll usually be looking for an attack that is plus on block, which lets you attack before your opponent afterwards, then swinging with a fast attack that "traps" your opponent who foolishly thought they could swing themselves.
Frame traps aren't foolproof, though. You can usually just continue to block and be fine until your opponent gets pushed out of range. Or, if you're feeling risky, you can try to get through the opponent's attack with an invincible reversal, which doesn't care about your opponent's pesky frame advantage.
Gap
How long your character has returned to neutral in between blocking (or getting hit by) two attacks. Like all discussions of time in fighting games, it's measured in frames. While you're in neutral, you can take any action, but be careful! If you are only in neutral for a few brief frames, there are some actions you won't want to take, especially if your opponent is looking to do a frame trap.
If your character blocks two attacks and there is no gap at all, we'll call that a true block string or say the offense is tight (it's also quite related to the Tekken concept of jailing). Sometimes players will just ask "is there a gap in that string?" just so they know whether they even have the option to do anything except block. Maybe if there's a gap they'll sometimes try a reversal to escape.
Gimmick
Also known as: Oki-Doke A plan of attack that requires either the element of surprise or a lack of knowledge from your opponent to work. The term is often meant in a negative way towards a strategy that wouldn't possibly work against well-prepared opponents, or something that can only work in the short term until your opponent understands the trick.
The term can also refer to a player who uses one linear but mostly effective strategy to beat lower skilled opponents, but who loses convincingly, with no backup strategy, when playing against better players who can defend properly. It may sound like gimmicks are kinda bad, but there's no better feeling in fighting games than to hit someone with a good one.
Gouki
The Japanese name for Akuma. Like with Vega, M. Bison and Balrog, there are some naming differences between some characters in the Japanese and English versions.
Hadouken
The specific name for Ryu and Ken's fireballs in the Street Fighter series, but it can be used to talk about any generic, forward-traveling projectile that is not a charge move.
Hit Confirm
Performing an attack, seeing that your attack successfully hit, and then reacting to this information by continuing the combo. That is to say, you "confirm" that your first attack hit before you launch further attacks, and if the attack was blocked instead, you stop and don't follow through with anything else. This is important because, usually, you will be canceling into a move that would be unsafe if it was blocked, so you only want to do it if it won't get you killed.
In some games this can be a pretty advanced skill, since you might not have a ton of time to recognize if your attack hit or not. In really fast cases, good players may even employ special tricks, like looking at the opponent's health bar or using special audio cues, to help them react as fast as they can.
Knockdown
Being knocked off your feet and landing on your back. Certain attacks commonly cause knockdowns, like sweeps, throws, many special moves, and in some games, simply getting hit out of the air. There are generally two types of knockdowns, hard knockdowns and soft knockdowns, which describe how long you have to lie on the ground before you can get up and fight again, and what options you may have (if any) while standing up.
Mixup
A situation where the offensive player has several ways to attack that each require a different defensive action to stop (such as blocking in different directions and avoiding throws).
Okizeme
Also known as: Oki The moment during a fighting game when your opponent is knocked down and you get to attack them as they stand back up. The defender's options are limited, so the offensive player gets to attack with all sorts of mixups or apply any mind game they choose. Some options include attacking with a basic meaty, doing a cross-up, or trying to bait their opponent's desperate dragon punch by simply doing nothing and blocking.
Okizeme (pronounced oh-kee-zeh-meh and often shortened to "oki") means "wake up offense" in Japanese, so the term mostly focuses on the offensive choices. If you hear someone ask "what's the oki going to be?", they are wondering what method of attack (or non-attack) the offensive player will choose to assert their advantage. It's closely related to the term wakeup, although that tends to focus more on the defensive choices (you might hear "I can't believe they did a wakeup DP!").
If someone asks "do I get oki after this move?", they're asking whether that move leaves them close enough, and with enough time, to threaten multiple different offensive options. Moves that "don't give you oki" will leave you far away and mostly end your offensive pressure.
Plink
An input trick where you press two different buttons on two consecutive frames. If you use an arcade stick, the best way to do this is to "drum" two different fingers across the two buttons extremely quickly. It will kind of feel a bit like a piano input. It's often notated with a ~, so pressing MP and then LP right after would be MP~LP.
Poke
An attack that's thrown out to occupy the space in front of you and remind your opponent not to try and come closer. Usually, this is a far-reaching and safe normal move with little risk. Pokes are often used to harass your opponent into doing something stupid, not unlike prodding a bear with a stick. If you use a poke to hit your opponent's poke, that's called a "counter poke".
Raging Demon
An iconic super for Akuma (and related "Evil" characters) in many Street Fighter titles. Akuma travels forward and grabs you, the screen goes dark, and after some rapid-fire hits in the darkness, you appear knocked out on the ground. Akuma then poses with his back to the camera.
Reversal
Reversal - An action taken on the first frame after your character recovers, such as after getting knocked down or exiting block stun. Sometimes conflated with "invincible reversal", an attack with invincible properties during startup.
%%%Shimmy Tricking someone into thinking you're going to throw them by walking close, and then, at the last second, walking backwards out of range so they whiff a throw tech attempt like a dummy. You can then pummel them with a huge punish.
Shoryuken
The specific name for Ryu and Ken's dragon punches in the Street Fighter series, but it's used to talk about any generic uppercut-looking move in pretty much any fighting game. Very often shortened to just "shoryu".
Shoto
An archetype in the Street Fighter series for a character that has a fireball, a shoryuken, and a tatsu. Their main gameplan is to play solid footsies with fireballs and pokes, and then uppercut you when you jump at them. Ryu, Ken, and Akuma are the quintessential shotos that appear in virtually every Street Fighter title.
Sonic Boom
A specific type of projectile that travels horizontally and is traditionally input using a charge command. Notably, they have considerably faster recovery than a fireball, but needing to have charge to throw one really limits the situations in which you can use them. Sonic Boom is the specific name of Guile's famous projectile, but it will often refer to any projectile with very little recovery.
Spam
Using one attack over and over again. Calling something "spam" or someone a "spammer" is the hallmark cry of the scrub, who is unwilling to find a strategy to beat any attack that hits them, no matter how telegraphed it is. Fighting game veterans will still use this term, but mostly in jest, or to give praise to a legitimate strategy. If you think someone is bad for using one move repeatedly to beat you, I'd recommend looking inwards and re-evaluating your strategy and game knowledge before lashing out. You might save a bit of embarrassment and you'll probably improve at the game at the same time.
Spinning Piledriver
A classic Zangief command throw in the Street Fighter series, executed with a 360 motion. Zangief grabs you, jumps high in the air while spinning, and then slams you into the ground. Commonly abbreviated to SPD. It also is a catch-all term for any grappler's command throw executed with a 360, across virtually any game.
Stagger
Stagger can also be used in its more common English meaning to describe attacks that are slightly delayed or off-beat from each other. Basically, you leave gaps between your attacks in tricky and unpredictable ways so your opponent thinks they're free to attack, then you smoke them with a devastating counter hit. You might hear something like "he staggered that heavy punch" or "nice stagger pressure" to indicate this.
Tatsu
The name of a shoto special move where the character travels forward with their foot extended, usually spinning like a top while doing so. It is sometimes called "Hurricane Kick" in English, but many in the community call it "tatsu", a shortened version of the Japanese name. Tatsus are often briefly projectile invincible which can help you win fireball wars, and they're often good combo enders too.
Tech
Most commonly is shorthand for a throw tech. It can also refer to the act of quick rising after being knocked down, as in "you should tech when you hit the ground". In Smash Bros. in particular, teching when you hit the ground lets you stand up in place or roll either left or right, which is super important for trying to escape offense.
It can also refer to recovering in the air after you've been hit by an air combo. Or, if all these definitions aren't enough, it's also used to talk about cool new strategies developed for a character, like "did you see that new Ryu tech posted to Twitter?" Confused at why so many fighting game terms have ambiguous meanings? You're not alone.
TO
Stands for Tournament Organizer. It's the main person in charge of running your favorite event, which could mean things like booking the venue, deciding which games to run, seeking out sponsors, and everything in between. Most TOs have a team of people working with them to make the event run smoothly, but they are kind of the front-facing entity of the tournament.
V-Reversal
A defensive mechanic in Street Fighter V that lets you attack while blocking. You consume one stock of your "V-Gauge" (which is also shared for use with your V-Trigger), and your character will do an attack which is invincible to all hits but can be thrown. Usually, your character will knock the opponent out of the way, dealing some gray life while you get some breathing space.
V-Shift
A Street Fighter V mechanic that lets you defensively dodge an attack and follow up with a counter-attack. For the cost of 1 V-Gauge bar (a meter also shared with doing V-Reversals and V-Triggers), pressing MK + HP in neutral will perform a V-Shift. You will emit a blue aura and do an invincible backdash, slowing down time if your opponent happened to attack at the same time.
V-Shift Break
An automatic follow-up attack you can perform after you successfully dodge an attack with V-Shift. By pressing MK+HP (again) during the slow-motion dodge animation, your character will lunge forward with a basic punch or kick that keeps your full invincibility from the V-Shift, causes a knockdown and deals some gray life. It's a way for you to get some breathing space if you don't have a good invincible attack to follow up with, like a dragon punch or a super, or you are worried about being out of range of those attacks. It's a slow attack, but fortunately it will be safe if it's blocked.
V-Skill
A character-specific Street Fighter V technique, activated by pressing medium punch and medium kick together. You can basically think of it like an alternate special move that builds your V-Gauge (used for V-Reversals and V-Trigger) if it connects with your opponent.
V-Trigger
A central comeback mechanic in Street Fighter V. Your "V-Gauge" fills up as you take damage or successfully use your V-Skill, and when it's full, you can activate your V-Trigger, which usually powers up your character in a unique way for a good length of time (or, for some fighters, it is just simply a strong one-time use move with no powerup).
Wakeup
The act of rising from the ground after you've been knocked down. Since you are usually invincible when you are on the ground, there's a specific period of time when you become hittable again; this moment in time and the decisions around it from both players comprise the "wakeup game".

2023.06.01 14:53 joeyhoush is the TLCM throttle pedal throw ‘normal’ is do i have a skill issue?
after some advise guys. i am trying to improve my driving and one of my weaknesses i am aware of is my throttle inputs. i feel like i know what i need to do in my head but i can’t put it in to practice. i have convinced myself this problem is because of the pedals and now i hate them and want to replace them but i just want to be sure this is not in fact a skill issue.
the issue is the pedal throw, i am sure my throttle inputs need to be controlled by my ankle movement only, but with these pedals it is not possible, i have to move my whole leg, and no matter how much i practice or how hard i try i cannot control my inputs properly by moving my whole leg. my brain thinks i’m doing 10% throttle but i’m always at half throttle, so i’m always struggling with things like maintenance throttle or squeezing on out of corners because i’m instantly on the throttle to hard.
i have convinced myself this is a pedal issue because even irl i drive a BMW M140i which has the kind of full foot flat throttle pedal, which can only be used by pivoting the ankle, so surely this is the correct way. i would never in a million years be able to drive an actual car the way i have to use the pedals on my rig. i see there are some Fanatec pedals similar to this so i’ve convinced myself this is what i need to change to
What i basically need from you guys is reassurance that my thinking is correct and throttle inputs should be controlled by pivoting the ankle only and not using the whole leg and sliding the foot across the base plate (which causes me another issue because my paddling shoes are so rubbery and grippy that it is not possible to slide them across the base plate, so most of the time my throttle foot is floating). Or if i am infect completely wrong and this is a skill issue that could potentially be solved by adjusting seating position or pedal position or something like that and i can stop blaming my pedals and start blaming myself
Thanks

2023.06.01 14:52 daddyeclipse79 Its been a rough couple of days....
I posted 3 days ago about waking up and having strong feelings about wanting to get my hands on my wifes AP. Later that day i was triggered and images of them 2 together came flooding in. I have been so proud of the fact that for the last 2 months i ha ent had that problem with images and when they would start to creep i would squash them immediately. I couldnt stop them at all 2 days ago. I talked to my wife and she was very supportive and she did everything right and i was very appreciative. She has come a long way in a short time. Yesterday i woke up still feeling angry and still wanting to get my hands on AP. We had a day planned together and a big part involved my daughter who had her 8th grade graduation yesterday. We had to drive 2 hours a way from where we live requiring us to drive through his town. Once again my wife noticed and asked if i was ok and if there was anything she could do. First i didnt want to ruine the day and second i didnt think it was a good time to talk in the mood i was in. We all still had a good day as i pushed it down the best i could. We got home that night she checked on me again and i still didnt want to talk and she respected that and we cuddled to sleep. Now its this morning and im still in this mood. I cant seem to shake it. He is living rent free at this point. Before this it never lasted more than half a day and me and my wife were not doing this good and she wasnt able to comfort or recognize like she has, so i am very thankful and happy to see her progress. But at the same time i now feel like i have gone backwards. I know its a daily struggle and some days are better than others. Im a good guy and not a violent man but the thoughts i have had would make a serial killer sick. I just dont know what to do to stop this at this point and why its been hitting me so hard lately. I thought with her finally on board for R and putting in the work things would be getting better and between us they are but my mind is now failing me.

2023.06.01 14:51 Emrakul_HonorGames Hi Reddit! Read to the end please.
I'm a solo indie developer, and I make games. I'm NOT going to ask you to buy my games, and I'm NOT going to profit off people's love for games. Money isn't important to me because I can't really enjoy anything in this world. I was born with a bunch of allergies, but that's not important. What matters is that the money I make goes entirely into developing new games, and my goal is to break into the AA segment. Steam stopped giving traffic (special advertising) during early access. Releasing a game in a unfinished state when you're alone is not the best idea, so I release games in early access when they're already DONE, but they might contain bugs. I polish the game and release it in EA, but to make any progress, I need wishlists, and it's really hard when you have a ton of projects and you're developing around the clock. Marketing is also needed, which costs more than the revenue from these games. All I'm asking is that if you're interested in seeing good RPG and Survival-Horror games in the future (my two favorite genres), just add my games to your wishlist. I'm not trying to beg for purchases; those who want will figure it out. But people ignore wishlists, even though they're very helpful. Here are my games (except Evil Bundle).
https://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Honor%20Games Pay special attention to Eldrimar;
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2349420/ELDRIMA it's the flagship of the company right now (haha, a company with just one face). By the way, I'm also going to make a cool-looking clone of a card-based PvE game, like a mix of mtg and HS against monsters, like Slay the Spire. It's going to be awesome, but I don't have a webpage for it yet. How do I manage all this? Well, I don't really sleep much. Insomnia torments me, and I live my life through games, so I sit and create. Otherwise, it's deadly boring. I've just released a game.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2358790/Survival__Horror_Hangmans_Rope/ You can read more about it here:
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1673630/view/3695811997063827890 And hey, I have a lot of interesting articles about solo development if anyone missed them. Start from the bottom. Right now, the most important thing is the wishlist for ̶R̶d̶r̶ ̶3 Hangman's Rope, but it would be great if you could wishlist all of my games ;) I'll say that I spend almost all my free time developing games, not for myself but for people, at a reasonable price. So help a fellow out. All you have to do is click a button, and I'll be one step closer to my dream game, where you can have a Fun. I'll try to make something cool when I become as rich as Blizzard (good luck with Diablo 4, by the way, I'll buy it, I'll tell you what I liked and what I didn't, from a developer's perspective, I think it'll be interesting). Alright, if you have any questions about development, games, I'm open to communication. These days, life can be boring. Maybe it's just me, but games are the only thing that saves me from reality. I've been playing since I was 3 years old. My favorite games are Diablo, Tes, Gothic, Fallout, Lineage 2, Mafia 2, old Resident Evils, Legacy of Kain. In general, I can play anything, but RPGs and survival-horror games hold a special place in my heart. Since childhood, I've dreamed of making games, and somehow, it turned out that I'm actually doing it, and anyone can do it if they're interested. Games have given me so much, and now I have this internal sense of duty that I need to give back to this world too. Not everyone can just consume; someone has to create as well. I'm ready to work very hard, without sparing myself, just to see a smile on a player's face. Money is certainly a nice bonus, but seeing a player's happy face is an indescribable feeling that you're making a difference.

2023.06.01 14:50 Due_Designer_765 What should I do
Okay so for this story they're going to be a lot of background so please bear with it cuz I really don't know what else I can do so I 30 male I'm with a woman 41 female she has four kids all of which are adults ages between 19 and 23 now her ex is a very narcissist he used to be on her call her names and even in front of her kids he would do that he has picked her up slam her against the wall he's had cops called on her when she actually defends herself against him one of the kids he used to claim wasn't his so he would be really mean to him even though the kid looks exactly like him his excuses because he's not left-handed he shouldn't be left-handed the ex for her has done drugs many times and she's protected her kids from all of the stuff that he's done so they don't know everything but like he would be gone for days at a time and spend his entire check on drugs just for him to feel good because he wanted it it was never about his family was always about him what he wanted for he but that's not what this threds about so I've been with this woman for about 3 years now and she's a very good woman she has some trust issues because he's cheated on her a few times I understand that and I have no complaints over I wish you would trust me more but I understand why she dumb because of all the time she's been cheated on now I have never heard I have never put my hands on her in any kind of harmful manner now we wrestled a little bit and we have fun with each other but that's that's just what we do with each other and her kids on the other hand they're a lot like their dad the only thing is their Two-Face and took a year for her daughter to actually be okay with me mainly because of the fact I spend money to help her with her bills and food and she needs anything I I help her which I don't care if anybody says that's wrong for me to do if she needs help I'm going to help her I'm going to help any of them if I can if they need help I'm going to try to help them I may not always be able to help financially but I'm going to try to help them as much as I can and I have every single time that I could I helped even if I had to download doordash and dash for 35-20,000 hours just to get what they needed so one of her sons has a disorder so he I understand that there's really no knowing without to anything so him I'm leaving out of this her oldest son who is the one that the dad doesn't think is his once his dad's praise so bad he'll do anything his dad says no matter how bad it is for second oldest he has a good paying job like he has a good job a really good job and he just becoming an adult but he disrespects his mom all the time I bite my tongue because I'm trying to be a supporter but I got fed up with it so I drive him to his pickup point because him and his uncle go to the same job so I pick about from his place and drop them off at his uncle's which is a good 81 miles there and back I do that six times a week on top of my other duties never want to charge them gas never once tried anything I told him he needs to try to get a vehicle and a license I will help him as much as I can with that but he needs to set it up he needs to do what he needs to do to get what he needs to get with that well I got fed up after 3 years of him bad-mouthing his mom right to his mom's face through text message so I got on and I was like look you're literally biting the hand that's paining you right now do you really want to keep bad-mouthing him up you really need to show respect because right now we're saving you $1,000 at the very least if you look up what lifted Uber would charge you just to get to work just to get to work one way 41 mi everyday you're looking at I think the cheapest end was 15 to 1600 while the high end was 10,000 a week so I told him the least you could do is show her some respect so I had lost one of my jobs because of the fact that I was thinking about them taking him to and from work so I told him look I'm sacrificing a lot for you and he's all like well I don't respect you I don't like him blah blah blah blah and I said that's fine you cannot like me you can not respect me but that doesn't mean I can have to deal with it he tells me that I shouldn't get involved between him and his mom but every time his woman goes at his mom by getting him involved even if it could be something as simple as hey we need to figure out the right schedule which is exactly what she sent to his woman hey we're struggling with taking him to and from work is there any way we can come up with a ride schedule she tells her son that his mom is being disrespectful and what not so he gets on the phone and calls her and starts berating her without even really knowing what actually happened and let's just keep going on and on and on and on so I put my foot down and do I get up there and then he starts going at me call me a piece of s*** and pathetic and worthless and whatnot so and him telling me that I can't get in between him and his mom and I'm like it wasn't the same difference when you feel like your woman's getting disrespected by your mom you defend her do you not our job as men is to protect our women and if we have kids we have to protect our kids as well so I stopped picking him up for if it was like 4 days even messages pleading with me to take him to and from work because his woman's about to lose her job and she's a caregiver so I'm now only picking him up from his place and dropping him off at his uncle's but nothing is changing he still acts all pissy whenever he gets in the car I just don't really know what else to do my woman saying just get a another job and the last figure out the rest and not worry about having to pick him up but I don't want to stop picking him up because he needs my help if he doesn't have my help he's not going to be able to get to it from work which is going to make it to a loses his job but at the same time we're struggling bad like we're down to pretty much an RV now and I don't know what to do I'm trying as hard as I can for these kids to give him a life that I never got my family never cared about me I never got help ever I still never get help so I'm trying to help these kids the best I can but it's like I'm shooting myself in the foot what do you all think I can do is there anything I can do or should I just stop and actually better mine or my woman's life should I close my heart off to where I'm picking him up I don't know I like I really don't know all over the place on this if you guys can please give me your opinions on what you do or what you think I can do what I can try to do what you know also if there's any spelling errors I do apologize I'm using talk to text cuz I suck at spelling and I know there's no grammar in here I was never good at grammar spelling or any of that I really was never good at it and it's not without lack of trying I have tried but I always put the things in the wrong areas and it doesn't help so please bear with that I will also try to reply to as many comments as I can

2023.06.01 14:47 Emrakul_HonorGames Hello Reddit!
Here are my games (except Evil Bundle).
https://store.steampowered.com/search/?publisher=Honor%20Games Pay special attention to Eldrimar;
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2349420/ELDRIMA it's the flagship of the company right now (haha, a company with just one face).

2023.06.01 14:47 No-Mixture7279 My (31M) gf (35F) of 2 years keeps venting and complaining to me and I don't know how to deal with it
So, I feel like my first problem is that I may be bad at dealing with venting and complaining in general. I tend to bury my feelings and undershare and my gf is the complete opposite so that is quite a shock. I tried reading on the subject a lot and I was mindblown when I read the advice about not giving solutions but instead just listening and understanding. That said, even though I read about it, I still find it hard to apply things and do what I am supposed to do. And I don't know how to deal with it.
On top of that, this is my first relationship. I have a hard time understanding if this is "normal", but I feel like she is constantly venting and complaining every day. Wherever we go, whatever we do, someone is being an asshole and she has to let me know. When driving she is in a constant state of mild road rage and when I am driving, I she rages at me for not raging at people. I try my best, but I feel sucked in a constant state of negativity and anger.
My girlfriend constantly vents and complains to me about her life situation also. It's basically every day or almost. And I feel bad for her, I do. But I don't know how to deal with it and it makes extremely anxious because I don't know what to say or do and I am just exposed to this constant stream of negativity without knowing what to do or say and risking starting an argument because I didn't say the proper thing.
I have a really hard time understanding how to properly respond. The approach that I was doing at first was to offer solutions. Since she talked with me and I read online I understand how that is not the right approach, though sometimes I still fall into that trap because to me it feels normal/what I am used to/supposed to do even though I now know it's not. Anyway, I tried different approaches but every time I seem to say or do the wrong thing. One time I'm told I'm dismissive cause I'm trying to make her see the bright side, another time I'm accused of being condescending because I was commiserating her too much because I thought that's what validation is etc. And then she starts attacking me for not caring and tells me "if you came to me would you want me to offer solutions" and I don't know what to say cause yeah that's what I would want and I don't vent. I'm not saying I am a superior being, just that it's the way I am. Possibly could be that I am the one that's not "normal" and have an unhealthy lack of opening up, but I have a hard time understanding this and I feel like she doesn't care at all that I am trying, just that I am not doing what she wants and she can't see that I just have a hard time understanding what I should do.
Plus, as I said this is not a once in a while thing where she needs support for something, this is basically every day, sometimes multiple times a day and a lot of time I'm just incredibly nervous and have to stop myself from just telling her to get over it and it's not so bad that this r4andom guy on the road took 0.5 seconds more than average to turn or that random woman made a slightly above average noise or whatever other inane shit she is mad at and venting at me for. It makes me anxious and runs my mood into the ground that she is complaining and venting all day about everything. tl;dr I think I have two connected but different issues:
1) My gf complains, vents and expects emotional support a lot and it affects me. I don't understand if this is the expected thing in a relationship. 2) regardless of the frequency and how "justified" they are, I don't understand how to deal with my gf's outursts, venting etc.

2023.06.01 14:47 OnnoJV Problem Fuzz Face JHF1 mini
Hey guys,
A problem from Belgium. I have this problem with this JHF1 mini I bought, and I don't know how to fix it, or what the reason is. Maybe you have some good ideas.
Allright, amp is a Tweed Deluxe clone, love it, guitar: doesn't really matter, cause it happens with all 3 of them (strat, old les paul, and semi-acoustic with P90's).
There is hardly any difference if I handle the fuzz-knob, I loose serious volume during the solo once in a while, and even worse when using my wahwah. The volme-knob on the guitar works great to get the fuzz less and make it beautiful and cleaner, but going into the solo and turning the volume up is when the problem starts. If you have a clue please let me know.
Thx, Onno

2023.06.01 14:46 ZandrickEllison [OC] Who is the best second banana? A ranking of the best sidekicks among all the 2000s title teams
We often hear the question: "Is Player X good enough to be the best player on a championship team?"
Less often, you hear: "Is Player Y good enough to be the
second best player on a championship team?"
It's time to give these second
bananas their due. We're going through the 2000s and ranking each SECOND best player on the title teams. Their values vary -- some were merely good starters, some were All-Stars, and some were arguably top 5 players in the entire league.
Ranking them isn't easy, but we're going to keep a few caveats in mind.
--- We're ranking based on the second banana's play during the course of THAT SEASON -- not their careers overall.
--- Statistics will be important, but not the be-all and end-all. After all, there's a big difference between stats from 2003 and stats from 2023. As a result, we may often defer to season accolades like "All-Star" or "All-NBA."
With all that said, here are my rankings, but feel free to disagree and explain your own ranks below.
THE BEST (title-winning) SECOND BANANAS of the 2000s
(23) Tyson Chandler, 2011 Dallas Mavericks
The 2010-11 Dallas Mavericks were probably the most unlikely champion of the 2000s, with Dirk Nowitzki and a cast of older veterans who were seemingly on the decline. At the time, Jason Kidd was 37, Caron Butler was 30, Shawn Marion was 32, and Peja Stojakovic was 33.
You can make the case for Jason Terry to be the second banana here. Terry averaged 15.8 points off the bench for the Mavs that year, which is more impressive when you consider the context. (teams averaged 99.6 PPG then, 114.7 PPG now). Terry also pumped his numbers up to 18.0 PPG in their stunning upset over Miami in the Finals.
Still, we'll give the slight nod to Tyson Chandler as the teams' second most impactful player overall. Chandler finished 2nd team All-Defense and his strong playoff showing helped spearhead his DPOY campaign the following season (for the Knicks). Either way -- whether you give the nod to Chandler, Terry, or Kidd -- this would rank at the bottom of our list. None of those players was flirting with All-Star status.
(22) Tony Parker, 2003 San Antonio Spurs
The Parisian Torpedo will be a frequent contributor to this list -- logging a record-setting 3 "second banana" awards for his contributions to the Spurs' incredible run.
Naturally, his first would be his least impactful. Back in 2002-03, Tony Parker was still only 20 years old and in his second season in the league. Still, he was probably their second best player after a prime Tim Duncan. He averaged 15.5 points and 5.3 assists (solid numbers for the era) and held his own against Jason Kidd in the Finals. Parker wouldn't be considered a star yet though -- his first All-Star appearance came three years later.
(21) Andrew Wiggins, 2022 Golden State Warriors
Golden State's title last year was their biggest surprise run, fueled by Steph Curry and a solid-but-unspectacular supporting cast. Among them, you could debate the virtues and flaws of the second bananas -- Draymond Green struggled offensively, Jordan Poole struggled defensively, Klay Thompson missed significant time coming back from injury.
Of that group, I'd suggest Andrew Wiggins was their most well-rounded and consistent second banana. He averaged 17.2 PPG and even made the All-Star team. Better yet, he became a "winning player." He scored more efficiently (39.3% from 3) and played better defense -- particularly in the Finals. That said, Wiggins was probably on the level of a "good starter" more than a typical All-Star. For that reason, we'll rank him below a few others who didn't make the All-Star team.
(20) Tony Parker, 2005 San Antonio Spurs
Tony Parker re-emerges on our list and climbs even higher now in his age-22 season. He still didn't make the All-Star team, but he upped his numbers to 16.6 points and 6.1 assists per game. Again, we have to remember that these averages look better when you factor in the points "inflation" of today. Overall, we'll give him a slight edge over rising Manu Ginobili (who averaged 16.0 PPG off the bench that year), although it's debatable. Of the two, Ginobili played better in the Finals against Detroit. Still, whether it's Parker or Ginobili, the second banana would rank around this same range.
(19) Kyle Lowry, 2019 Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors finally broke through when they rented mercenary Kawhi Leonard for the year, but Leonard was backed up by a very strong supporting cast overall.
Among them, we're giving a slight nod to the old dog Kyle Lowry (then 32) over the rising star Pascal Siakam. Lowry felt like more of the heartbeat to the team. The numbers don't jump off the page (14.2 PPG), but he was a strong two-way player who averaged 8.7 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
(18) Khris Middleton, 2021 Milwaukee Bucks
We have another second banana debate here, although we're leaning to Khris Middleton over Jrue Holiday. It's easy for our memory to get foggy now that Middleton has struggled post injury, but he was a very good starter before that. He averaged 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game (not far behind Jrue Holiday's 6.1).
While the 29-year-old Middleton didn't make the All-Star team this season, he was an All-Star caliber player; in fact, he made the team both the prior year and the year after.
(17) Chauncey Billups, 2004 Detroit Pistons
We're giving the primary "star" designation to Ben Wallace here. While "Big Ben" only averaged 9.5 PPG, his defense was the Pistons' biggest differentiator. In 2003-04, Wallace won Defensive Player of the Year and even finished 7th in MVP voting.
Among the other starters, we're giving the nod to Chauncey Billups over Rip Hamilton and Rasheed Wallace. Hamilton had the slight edge in scoring (17.6 PPG to 16.9 PPG), but Billups led the team with 5.7 assists per game and tended to be their go-to guy offensively when need be. Sure enough, "Mr. Big Shot" would go on to win Finals MVP.
(16) Tony Parker, 2007 San Antonio Spurs
As Tim Duncan aged, Tony Parker got better and better. His best second banana season would come in 2006-07. Now age 24, Parker averaged 18.6 points and 5.5 assists per game and made the All-Star team. He shot less threes and relied more on his ability to drive and convert in the paint. He shot 52.0% from the field overall.
In the Finals, the Cleveland Cavaliers had no answer for Parker's scoring. He whipped them to the tune of 24.5 points per game (shooting 56.8% from the field in the process). Parker would win Finals MVP for his part in the sweep.
(15) Kawhi Leonard, 2014 San Antonio Spurs
For their last title, the San Antonio Spurs were more the sum of their parts than any one true star. Tim Duncan was 37, Manu Ginobili was 36. Tony Parker had probably graduated from second banana to their marquee player -- he was their leading scorer and lone All-Star that season.
After him, we'll call Kawhi Leonard their next best player. While Leonard wasn't a big name or big scorer yet (averaging 12.8 PPG), he still had a massive impact on winning. He was an efficient offensive player (shooting 52.2% from the field) and an excellent defender. The raw stats suggest that Leonard should be lower than this, but the advanced stats suggest he was already an elite player. Overall, his BPM of +5.0 led the team. We'll make the playoffs the tiebreaker, where Leonard stepped up his scoring and won Finals MVP. If you want to consider him the team's best player this year (which feels like a bit of revisionist history), Parker would rank around this same range.
(14) Kyrie Irving, 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers
Young Kyrie Irving (then 23) also gets a boost for his excellent playoff performance. In the Finals, Irving exploded for 27.1 points per game and helped the Cavs defeat the 73-win Golden State Warriors.
If you look at his 2015-16 as a whole, it gets harder to rank Irving much higher than this. He didn't play that great in the regular season; in fact, it may have been the worst of his career. He only played 53 games, only shot 32.1% from 3 (a career low), and only averaged 4.7 assists (also a career low). He also missed the All-Star game. In terms of peak performance, Irving was an excellent second banana (particularly for LeBron James), but if we gauge this exercise season-by-season he'd rank around middle of the pack.
(13) Pau Gasol, 2009 Los Angeles Lakers
Kobe Bryant rightfully gets the lion's share of credit for the Lakers' repeat from 2009-10, but history may forget how good Pau Gasol was when he arrived from Memphis to help out the cause.
Right in the thick of his prime at age 28, Gasol averaged 18.9 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. His size, skill, and basketball IQ made him the perfect mind meld with Bryant. All in all, Gasol made the All-Star team and even cracked 3rd team All-NBA. He's the first "All-NBA" sidekick we've registered so far, which explains his lofty ranking.
(12) Pau Gasol, 2010 Los Angeles Lakers
The following year, Pau Gasol was arguably even better. He started to control the paint even more, registering 11.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. Once again, he made the All-Star team and 3rd team All-NBA. Between Gasol, Andrew Bynum, and Lamar Odom off the bench -- this Lakers unit may have had the best frontcourt depth in the 2000s.
(11) Shaquille O'Neal, 2006 Miami Heat
When Shaquille O'Neal first arrived from L.A., he immediately assumed the mantle of the star of the Miami Heat. That first year, he even finished 2nd in MVP voting.
However, by the next year (2005-06), Dwyane Wade had usurped that mantle. Now 33, O'Neal shifted into more of a supporting role. He still had a major impact -- averaging 20.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks -- but became more of a second option as Wade tore up the playoffs. He appeared to slow down as the season wore on -- averaging just 13.7 PPG in the Finals.
Still, O'Neal's accolades this season rank highly -- he was an All-Star and 1st team All-NBA performer. For that reason, we're going to put him above some of the 3rd team All-NBA sidekicks. Still, you can argue against that as O'Neal was more on the level of a Pau Gasol than a true superstar at this point.
(10) Klay Thompson, 2015 Golden State Warriors
When we think about "sidekicks," you immediately think of someone with the skill set of Klay Thompson (then age 24). He took "3 and D" to the extreme -- nailing 43.9% from deep and contributing 1.9 "stocks" on the other end (1.1 steals, 0.8 blocks).
Like Pau Gasol, Klay Thompson made the All-Star and made 3rd team All-NBA that season. In fact, he even made an appearance on an MVP ballot and finished 10th overall in the voting. For a clear "sidekick," that's an impressive feat.
(9) Paul Pierce, 2008 Boston Celtics
Back in 2007-08, Danny Ainge wasn't cobbling together a team of a star + supporting sidekicks -- he was combining three stars who had gotten used to being "the man" in their previous stops. New arrival Kevin Garnett assumed the role as the alpha dog -- averaging 18.8 PPG, playing excellent defense, and finishing third in MVP voting.
Meanwhile, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen played the role of overqualified "Robins." Pierce averaged 19.6 points to lead the team, shooting 39.2% from three. Like our previous second bananas, he made the All-Star team and the 3rd team All-NBA. You also got the sense there was more in the tank when need be, as illustrated by his averaging 21.8 points and 6.3 assists in the Finals en route to Finals MVP.
(8) Dwyane Wade, 2013 Miami Heat
As we jump back and forth through time like a Chris Nolan movie, it may be hard to keep track of the ups and downs of these superstars. For this spot, we're talking about the Dwyane Wade of the "Heatles" days. In 2013, Wade was 31 years old, maybe a step past his prime, and a clear second banana to LeBron James.
Still, even in that role, Wade had a massive impact. In the regular season, he averaged 21.2 points, 5.1 assists, 1.9 steals, and 0.8 blocks. While he may have to take a backseat to LeBron James offensively, he utilized his athleticism to be a wrecking ball on the defensive end. Overall, he finished as an All-Star, 3rd team All-NBA, and even landed in 10th place in MVP voting.
(7) Kobe Bryant, 2000 Los Angeles Lakers
Again, let's pay attention to the timeline here. In the first three-peat of the Shaq and Kobe days, Kobe Bryant was only 21 years old and not at the peak of his powers. Make no mistake -- this was the Shaq Show early on. In the Finals, O'Neal averaged 38.0 points and 16.7 rebounds (more boards than Bryant had points with 15.6 PPG).
Despite that, Bryant was clearly a star player in his own right. He averaged numbers similar to 2013 Wade -- 22.5 points and 1.6 steals per game. He made the All-Star game, 1st team All-Defense, and 2nd team All-NBA, accolades that put him in this lofty spot on our rankings.
(6) Dwyane Wade, 2012 Miami Heat
We're toggling back to Dwyane Wade now -- in the year prior to our 8th place spot. In the Heatles' first title (and Wade's second overall), he was still 30 years old and arguably still in his prime. He averaged 22.1 points, 4.6 assists, and even better defensive numbers -- 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
For his efforts, he was named to the All-Star team and to the 3rd team All-NBA. He also cracked the MVP voting again, finishing in 10th place once more. We're going to give him a slight edge on Kobe's first title year, but the two would be razor tight; they were both clearly top 10 players in the league at the time.
(5) Anthony Davis, 2020 Los Angeles Lakers
Say what you want about the COVID year, the bubble, and the "Mickey Mouse" championship, but Anthony Davis was a friggin' beast back in 2019-20. He averaged 26.1 points per game, keyed by his ability to get to the line and convert (84.6% shooting on 8.5 FTA per game). He caught fire in the playoffs, averaging a team-high 27.7 PPG with a 66.5% true shooting percentage.
Davis's defensive impact is what sets him apart from most other second bananas. He averaged 1.5 steals and 2.3 blocks per game, earning 1st team All-Defense and nearly winning DPOY. Overall, he made the All-Star team, 1st team All-NBA, and finished 6th in MVP voting. In terms of season accolades, that would be the best on our list so far.
(4) Kobe Bryant, 2001 Los Angeles Lakers
If 1999-2000 Kobe Bryant was still developing, he looked like a finished product by 2000-01. Now age 22, he was a dominant player on both ends. He averaged 28.5 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists, and made 2nd team All-Defense. Overall, this version of Bryant finished 2nd team All-NBA and finished 9th in MVP voting. That ranking would have probably been even higher had he not missed some time in the regular season (only 68 games played).
Looking back, you could see where some of the tension between Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal may have stemmed from. After all, it's not easy for a kid who put up 29-7-6 in the playoffs to accept being second banana forever.
(3) Kobe Bryant, 2002 Los Angeles Lakers
In the final year of the Lakers' three-peat, the 23-year-old Kobe Bryant had not only established himself as a superstar, but as one of the best players in the entire league. The numbers don't jump off the page -- 25.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists -- but we have to adjust for the era and the role he played.
The league clearly knew his value. He made the All-Star team, 2nd team All-Defense, 1st team All-NBA, and finished 5th in MVP voting (two spots behind Shaquille O'Neal). He'd jump even higher the next year, overtaking O'Neal as the leading scorer (30.0 PPG) and the leading MVP candidate (3rd overall).
(2) Steph Curry, 2018 Golden State Warriors
Finally, we answered the question that had stumped basketball analysts for years: what would happen if you added a superstar to a team that won 73 games the year prior? Turns out, they'd be pretty good.
For our exercise, the bigger challenge is determining who the "second banana" would be between two recent MVPs Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. I'm going to split the difference and say it was Curry's team the first year (when KD coincidentally missed 20 games) and then got handed over to Durant the following year (when Curry missed 30 games).
Through that lens, we're going to study Curry in that second season. Still only 29, Curry was still squarely in his prime. He averaged 26.4 PPG on a sparkling 67.5% true shooting percentage. Even though he missed 31 regular season games, he still finished 3rd team All-NBA and 10th in MVP voting. You could even argue that he was the most impactful player in the NBA at the time. After all, he had won back-to-back MVPs a few seasons prior.
(1) Kevin Durant, 2017 Golden State Warriors
If we're calling Kevin Durant the "second banana" for the first year in Golden State, he'd rank as the best two-way sidekick in the 2000s. Remember, we're not debating "Kobe vs. Durant" in terms of career achievement here; we're ranking their single-season efforts in a supporting role. Unlike some of our other stars (like a young Kobe), Durant was squarely in his prime at age 28.
In the regular season, he averaged 25.1 PPG on stone-cold efficiency (65% true shooting). Also, outside of Oklahoma City's super-sized lineup, he showcased his ability to protect the rim as well -- blocking 1.6 shots per game. Despite missing 20 games in the regular season, he still finished 2nd team All-NBA.
More than that, Durant demonstrated his true upside in the playoffs and Finals. Matched up with LeBron James and a historically-underrated Cavs team, Durant averaged 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 1.6 blocks on godly shooting splits of 56-47-93 (a 69.8% true shooting). Durant was arguably the best player in the NBA that year -- and would be top 3 at minimum. For that reason, he ranks at our top spot.
follow up: where would Jamal Murray or Bam Adebayo rank?
This year's Finals may not be Adam Silver's dream, but it's a great one for this exercise. We rarely see a clearer "second banana" in the hierarchy like Jamal Murray for Denver or Bam Adebayo for Miami.
Ranking them among the second bananas would be a more difficult task. Coming back from injury, Murray didn't have a great regular season. He's still never made the All-Star team. Still, his ability to raise his game in the playoffs and make tough shots does feel reminiscent of young Kyrie Irving during that Cavs title run.
Alternatively, Adebayo has a great case as a two-way stud. He's not the type of "back you down" big that some people want him to be, but he can still score in the mid-range, he's an underrated passer, and he's obviously an exceptional and switchable defender. He made the All-Star team and second team All-Defense this year. Among our second bananas, he reminds me most of Pau Gasol during the Lakers run.

2023.06.01 14:40 stackedstudios Is SSDs with Innogrit unsupported?
Months ago I hackintoshed my Dell Inspiron 5577, Toshiba HDD.
Recently bought an Adata XPG Gammix S70 Blade 512GB after reading
Storage Anti-Hackintosh Buyers Guide (dortania.github.io) and tried to hackintosh - install macOS in a partition of a that SSD. So I deleted the HDD's MacOS Partition since I did not want two MacOSes. I used the *Same EFI Folder* which I used for HDD but I did add `NVMeFix.kext`.
I made a reinstall, then proceeded to installer - [progress stuck at "28 Minutes Remaining", system not responsive]
So I rebooted and tried again many times. Then I formatted the partition again and retried.
The MacOS Recovery `Reinstall MacOS option` - [progress stuck at "12 Minutes Remaining", system not responsive].
So I rebooted and tried again many times. Then I again formatted the partition and retried because I didn't get to the installer also! I checked my config file a lot of times but I found no issues. I also tried different file systems (before and after formatting from/into using Disk Utility. I also tried formatting using commands but now often it got my system unresponsive. I checked if my NVRAM wasn't broken and it was ok. I had tried ResetNVRAM option many times before trying many of the processes.
On asking Hackintosh Community on discord, I found out the frozen system (here referring to "system not responsive/ unresponsive") is called as "Hard Lock" and actually my cursor gets stuck. progress and everything is frozen. *CapsLock light is also not working at that time!* and this could be due to unsupported SSDs but I am just not sure if it is really unsupported or I am doing something wrong or missing something? So I'm asking you here to clear my doubt and help! :D
I'm very new to reddit, my english is not so good hence the flair or any rule could be wrong or be not followed by me (respectively) so I will be glad to be corrected in the replies instead of getting removed, Thanks! This falls under both question and help so I choose Discussion :)

2023.06.01 14:36 skx45 AM5 PC takes around 2 minutes to POST
So this is a brand new PC, it was built yesterday, I will list the spec and run through the changes made.
Motherboard: Gigabyte X370 Aorus Elite AX CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X
Memory: Klevv 64gb (4 x 16gb) DDR5 6000mhz
SSD: 2x Crucial Pcie Gen 5 M.2 (1000gb and 2000gb)
PSU: Corsair 1000W
GPU: RTX 4080
The PC was fine when it was first built, the first change was taking out the RGB PCie extender for the graphics card, as it was no longer required. Once the extender was removed, and the GPU power was connected directly to the PSU PCie plugins, it refused to POST. I removed all memory except for one stick, and it POSTed fine again, the PC refused to POST with all memory plugged back in.
I then tried all components on a different motherboard, and it worked fine. I removed the original board from the case, plugged everything back in, and it worked fine outside the case. However, the issue now is it takes around 1-2 minutes to POST.
The issue is driving me insane, any help would be much appreciated.
